I’ll be driving down the road and my car just shuts off. Steering becomes tight, no engine lights come on radio is still playing no warning except driving down the road and all of a sudden you can’t steer. It’s very dangerous especially when it happens while you are driving around the curve with children in the car. My mechanic can’t tell me why this happens. No explanation. This has happen several times

DRIVING AT 35 MPH CAME TO A SLOW DOWN TO TURN VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND CAUSED ME TO GO INTO A DITCH AS NO BREAKS, NO STEERING, AND ALL POWER LOST. ONCE PUT INTO PARK STARTED BACK UP IMMEDIATELY. THE FIRST TIME I DIDN'T HAVE MY KIDS IN THE CAR AND THE SECOND TIME I DID AND WE COULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY HURT. I IS NOT SHOWING ANY CODES TO LET US KNOW WHAT I COULD POSSIBLY BE.

BEGINNING IN DEC 2017, WE'VE HAD SPORADIC ISSUES WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS AND LOCAL ROADS WITH SOME PORTION OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE CENTER LCD DASH SCREEN POWERS OFF, AND WE LOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. DASH LIGHTS, EXTERIOR LIGHTS, RADIO, A/C ALL STAY ON. TYPICALLY WE HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF & BACK ON FOR IT TO RETURN. FROM DEC-OCT, ITS HAPPENED APPROX 5-6 TIMES. THE DEALER WASN'T ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE FOR THE DAYS THEY HAD IT, AND NO ERROR CODES WERE WRITTEN. A FRIEND ALSO WITH A DURANGO DESCRIBED TO ME SIMILAR ISSUES WITH HIS, AND SAID HIS TIPM WAS FAULTY. WE HAVE LIFETIME WARRANTY, AND THE TIPM IS COVERED, BUT THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE IT UNTIL THE DEALER CAN REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND GET AN ERROR CODE POINTING TO THE TIPM. I BELIEVE BECAUSE WE LOSE POWER STEERING, THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE REPLACED REGARDLESS.

THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, RESTARTED THE ENGINE, AND WAS ABLE TO RESUME DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. A TWENTY SEVEN POINT INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED. T38 RECALL: I'VE TAKEN MY VEHICLE INTO PRESTIGE CHRYSLER DODGE, LAS VEGAS ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS CONCERNED ABOUT LOSS OF POWER AND STALLING WHILE TURNING AND HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM FOR THE T38 RECALL. YESTERDAY I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED BECAUSE MY VEHICLE LOST POWER DURING A TURN OFF THE INTERSTATE. THEY HAVE HOWEVER, CHARGED ME FOR OTHER ISSUES LIKE AN OIL PRESSURE SENSOR (SEE ATTACHED) THAT HAS NOT FIXED MY LOSS OF POWER. I CALLED FCA RECALL AND THEY HAVE SENT ME TO AN ALTERNATIVE DEALERSHIP FOR A REPLACEMENT ALTERNATOR. PRESTIGE CHRYSLER DODGE OF LAS VEGAS IS REFUSING TO FIX KNOWN SAFETY ISSUES AND ADVISED ME THAT THEY HAD TESTED MY ALTERNATOR AND KNEW IT WAS FAULTY, YET COULD NOT REPAIR IT WITHOUT THE RECALL PARTS. THEIR DEALERSHIP IS PLACING PEOPLE'S LIVES AT RISK BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WANT TO DO THE TEMPORARY FIX AND THEN HAVE TO COMPLETE THE RECALL AGAIN WHEN THE REPLACEMENT ALTERNATORS ARE ISSUED. THIS IS UNETHICAL, IRRESPONSIBLE, AND NEGLIGENT. THE RECALL WAS ISSUED IN JULY--THEY HAVE HAD MY DURANGO 3 TIMES, KNOWN ABOUT THE STALL AND REFUSED TO ASSIST ME. I ALSO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND ASKED TO HAVE THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED WITH THAT--THEY REFUSED AGAIN SAYING THE WARRANTY WOULDN'T TOUCH A KNOWN DEFECT. PLEASE TAKE ACTION BEFORE THIS DEALERSHIP PLACES ANOTHER FAMILY IN DANGER FOR REFUSING TO COMPLY WITH NHTSA SAFETY REGULATIONS.

ANYWAY, ON 18 AUG, I NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING WOULD GO OUT IF YOU DON'T PRESS THE BREAK PADDLE. AGAIN, IT DIDN'T START OUT THAT WAY, BUT PROCEEDED THE MOVE I DROVE. BY 26 AUG, IT WAS GOING OUT JUST ABOUT FROM THE TIME I STARTED THE CAR UNTIL I STOPPED FOR THE DAY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON28 AUG AND HAD THE PUMP REPLACED. I GOT MY CAR BACK ON 29 AUG. SO FAR, NO ISSUES. THE INCIDENTS TOOK PLACE MAINLY WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN, PARKING. I NOTICED THAT IT A LITTLE WHEN I WAS DRIVING THAT THE WHEEL WOULD STIFFEN BUT IT WAS NOT TOO BAD SINCE I COULD JUST PRESS THE GAS PADDLE AND IT WOULD LOOSEN.

A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE SHIELD OVER THE WHEEL WELL DETACHED, AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE, SPOILER, AND RIM WERE DAMAGED DUE TO THE CRASH. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE TUTTLE CLICK TOFTIN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM DEALER, BUT IT WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIRS BEING AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND AUTHORIZED THE DEALER TO PROVIDE A SECOND REPAIR; HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT VERIFIED IF THE REPAIR WOULD BE FREE OF CHARGE. THIS IS OF COURSE STRANGE BECAUSE ONCE AGAIN, NOTHING CAN BE RECORDED. THE KEY FOB BATTERY IS BRAND NEW AND THE PUSH BUTTON WAS IN USE. I HAVE A VIDEO FOR DOCUMENTATION. THE MILEAGE IS 94,017. WE HAVE RECORDED VIA TRIGGER BOX DAILY JERKS WITH THE DURANGO AND NOW THE MAJOR ISSUE WE NEEDED DOCUMENTATION OF CAN'T BE CAPTURED BECAUSE THE DEVICE NO LONGER OPERATES.

AS I TURNED RIGHT, THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN STALLED. THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, BUT ALL THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS CONTINUED TO WORK. I PLACED MY FOOT ON THE GAS TO DEMONSTRATE THAT IT WOULD NOT MOVE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN DRIVE. THEN I DID THE SAME WITH THE BREAK TO DEMONSTRATE THAT IT WOULDN'T RESPOND. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. MY CHILDREN WERE IN THE VEHICLE AND MY OLDEST SON RECORDED UNTIL WE REACHED THE INTENDED STOPPING POINT. THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE WAS 94,624. THE VEHICLE HAD A TRIGGER BOX / FLIGHT RECORDER, BUT IT QUIT FUNCTIONING THE PREVIOUS WEEK WHEN THE CAR ALSO STOPPED LAST WEEK.

LUCKILY I WAS ON A SMALL ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF ONTO THE GRASS. THE CAR WAS DEAD AND SMOKE WAS POURING FROM THE ALTERNATOR. I WENT AND BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR. WITHIN IN 2 MINUTES OF INSTALLING BOTH, MY CAR DID THE SAME EXACT THING. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR. I EXPLAINED THAT I HAD ALREADY REPLACED IT AND THINK IT COULD BE MORE SEVERE. THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR WITH LABOR I'M LOOKING AT $1200. THAT'S NOT INCLUDING IF THAT DOESN'T FIX THE ISSUE. THEY SAIS IT COULD HAVE FRIED MY (PCM) POWER CONTROL MODULE WHICH COULD COST ME AT LEAST $1000 MORE PLUS LABOR. HOW IS IT THEY AREN'T RECALLING THE 2012 DURANGO WITH 180 AMP ALTERNATOR BUT ALL THE OTHERS? THIS CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD, I SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR GOING ON 3 TIMES NOW. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY SON IN THIS CAR ANYMORE. I'VE SEEN ENOUGH COMPLAINTS SAYING THIS CAUSED ACCIDENTS SINCE THE CAR JUST DIES WHILE DRIVING.

I CONTACTED THE AREA MANAGER TO ASK IF THIS KNOWN, UNSAFE VEHICLE COULD BE BOUGHT BACK AT THE HIGHEST NADA VALUE. HIS RESPONSE WAS, 'I'M NOT OFFERING A REPURCHASE.' HE SHARED THAT HE WOULD GET ANOTHER TECHNICIAN PERSONALLY INVOLVED. WE JUST RECEIVED THE CAR FROM THE SHOP ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 25, 2017 AFTER THE ENTIRE TIPM WAS REPLACED AND IT STOPPED AGAIN! *TR

AROUND 7:20 AM I HAD JUST EXITED A RAMP TO GO BENEATH THE UNDERPASS TO TURN LEFT. THE MILEAGE CHANGE WAS 60 MPH TO 35 MPH. BEFORE THE CAR COULD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP APPLIED BY BRAKES, IT STALLED. THERE WERE OTHER VEHICLES BEHIND US WHO HAD TO GO AROUND. MY CHILDREN WERE WITH ME AND ONE RECORDED TO SHOW THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN DRIVE AND THAT THE BRAKE AND THE GAS WOULD NOT RECEIVE A RESPONSE FROM THE CAR. AS I WAS TURNING LEFT INTO A COMMUNITY THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN DRIVE. I IMMEDIATELY PUT THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE FOR SAFETY WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN DRIVE. I LIFTED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE AND THE CAR REMAINED STILL. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR REMAINED STILL. I THEN PLACED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AGAIN AND IT WAS STIFF. WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T MOVE WHILE STILL IN DRIVE. I PLACED MY FOOT BACK ON THE BRAKE AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. I PRESSED THE ENGINE BUTTON AND THE VEHICLE ENGINE CAME ON. I TURNED THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS OFF, PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND CONTINUED MY DESTINATION. I HAVE A VIDEO, BUT IT EXCEEDS THE UPLOAD SIZE FOR THIS SITE.

I HAD JUST EXITED AN UPHILL RAMP AFTER COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY FROM ABOUT 65 MPH TO 35 MPH. AFTER ENTERING THE RAMP I HAD TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. THE RADIO WAS STILL PLAYING, BUT THE CAR HAD SIMPLY STOPPED MOVING. I PRESSED THE ENGINE BUTTON TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. THEN I PRESSED IT AGAIN TO RESTART IT. WE WERE DRIVING ABOUT 65 MPH AN WERE APPROACHING A MAJOR HIGHWAY INTERSECTION. THE AIR IN THE CAR BEGAN TO GET WARM AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. WE WERE BLESSED TO BE NEAR A SHOULDER WHERE WE COULD PULL OVER. I TURNED ON THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS AND WE PULLED OVER TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. WE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED A MOMENT AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. THE ENGINE SHOOK WHEN THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE HOME WITHOUT ANY ADDITIONAL STOPPING. *TR
MY SON AND I WERE DRIVING TO A FRIEND'S HOME. WE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND THE AIR IN THE CAR BECAME WARM. WHEN I TRIED TO PUSH THE GAS PEDAL, NOTHING HAPPENED. THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO LOCKED UP. WE TURNED ON THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THE CAR CONTINUED NORMALLY. *TR

THERE WAS NO WHERE TO VEER OFF IN THIS SITUATION BECAUSE WE WERE IN THE FARTHEST LEFT LANE THAT HAD TO TURN BENEATH THE UNDERPASS. BECAUSE WE WERE AT A STOP LIGHT, I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON, TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON. THE CAR SHOOK A LITTLE AND WE CONTINUED TO SCHOOL.
I WAS TAKING MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL. WE WERE IN MORNING TRAFFIC ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY GOING NORTH. WE WERE IN THE SECOND FARTHEST LEFT LANE. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 65 MPH WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN ON ITS OWN. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. THIS TIME WE WERE IN A BULK OF TRAFFIC AND AN 18 WHEELER WAS BEHIND US. I TURNED ON OUR EMERGENCY LIGHTS, LOOKED TO THE LEFT AND HAD TO STICK MY LEFT ARM OUT THE WINDOW TO SIGNAL TO THE OTHER CARS BEHIND US TO LET US OVER TO THE LEFT SHOULDER. I WAS ABLE TO GUIDE THE VEHICLE TO THE LEFT SHOULDER. THE RADIO WAS STILL PLAYING. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, SAT FOR A MOMENT TO CALM DOWN AND CALLED MY HUSBAND. THE FIRST 3 TIMES THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED UNDER WARRANTY BY LARRY H MILLER DODGE, 4220 E 22ND STREET, TUCSON, AZ. 85711, (520) 745-1000. IN THESE CASES, THE DEALER CLAIMED A HOSE HAD COME OFF AND THEY CONNECTED IT BACK ON. DOCUMENTATION ON THESE REPAIRS AVAILABLE IS UPON REQUEST. THE ISSUE WAS REPORTED TO CHRYSLER-DODGE CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPT. AND WAS ASSIGNED CASE NO. 24966049. MY VEHICLE LOST STEERING POWER FOR THE FOURTH TIME ON DECEMBER 21, 2015. IT LEFT A HUGE PUDDLE OF FLUID ON THE PAVEMENT AND THE POWER STEERING CONTAINER IS EMPTY. EVERY TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, WE HAVE BEEN LUCKY TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. HOWEVER, WE HAVE BECOME AFRAID OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE CAR IS NOW PERMANENTLY PARKED WITH NO POWER STEERING. I BELIEVE THERE IS A DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH THE HOSE THAT KEEPS COMING OFF. PUTTING IT BACK ON IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE FORM OF REPAIR. IT DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND IT ENDANGERS OUR LIFE.

2012 DODGE DURANGO CREW WITH A V6. ENGINE DIED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES, BUT MANAGED TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC AND LET IT COAST TO THE SHOULDER. THE ENGINE WOULD CRANK, BUT IMMEDIATELY DIE. AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS, THE ENGINE BEGAN RUNNING SMOOTHLY. SINCE THEN, IT WILL OCCASIONALLY NOT START (THE STARTER TURNS OVER, BUT THE ENGINE WILL NOT RUN). NO CODES ARE DISPLAYING WHEN HOOKED TO A COMPUTER. A MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS THE TIPM AND I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE, I FOUND MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. ENGINE SEEMS TO HAVE A BETTER START RECORD IF I TURN THE KEY ON AND WAIT 2 SECONDS BEFORE STARTING VS IMMEDIATELY TRYING TO CRANK THE CAR AS SOON AS I INSERT THE KEY. REMOTE START RARELY WORKS NOW. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THE ENGINE DYING WHILE MY WIFE IS DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC (SHE IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER). TO ME, THIS IS A MUCH MORE PRESSING ISSUE THAN THE CURRENT RECALLS. *TR

HEARD FROM A FRIEND WITH A 2011 DURANGO THAT THEY HAD LOW POWER STEERING FLUID WHEN THEY HAD THEIR MAINTENANCE CHECK UP. I HAD BEEN HEARING A MILD GRINDING NOISE WHEN I WOULD MOVE MY STEERING WHEEL AT TIMES SO I TOOK IT IN TO HAVE IT CHECKED. SURE ENOUGH, THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL WAS AT A VERY LOW LEVEL. THEY HAD TO PUT SOME IN AND THEN SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO COME BACK AND LOOK FOR A LEAK. CAME BACK, FOUND NO LEAK AND BLAMED IT ON THE MANUFACTURER FOR HAVING AN AIR BUBBLE OR SOMETHING. COMPLETE FAILURE OF ALL POWER STEERING, VEHICLE WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER TO A SAFE SPOT OUT OF TRAFFIC. VEHICLE HAD TO BE FLATBED TO DEALER. DODGE SERVICE STATED THAT A FITTING ON A HOSE HAD BROKEN OR FALLEN OFF. IT WAS REPAIRED. AT 21,922 MILES ON 1/09/13 ONCE AGAIN AS I PULLED OUT OF TRAFFIC INTO A SHOPPING CENTER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. COMPLETE FAILURE OF ALL POWER STEERING, FLATBED TO DODGE DEALER AND AM TOLD THAT ALL HOSES AND PUMP ASSEMBLY NEED TO BE REPLACED. I UNDERSTAND SOMETHING HAPPENING ONCE. TWICE IS A ISSUE.
