The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact was pulled over by a Police Officer, and was informed that both taillights were inoperable. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the taillight assemblies. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 122,000.

Racetrack light bar has failed twice since purchasing this car. The same bulb has went out and in order to pass inspection I need to replace the whole thing. I've had this vehicle for 2 years.
The rear tail light racetrack assembly gasket has permitted water intrusion, with currently about an inch of water having collected in the light. The lower segments of the LED lights have failed, posing a safety risk due to reduced visibility, as well as a fire risk. In addition, the rear license plate LED module has failed, likely due to this water intrusion, requiring replacement no less than 4 times since i have owned this vehicle (since 2015). This repair is costly, roughly $300 each time. It was just replaced in November of 2024, and has already failed.
The driver side Daylight Running Light went out prematurely.

The “racetrack” tail light on my wifes Durango is completely burnt out due to water infiltration in the assembly, which is a now known issue for multiple drivers of a Durango. With that being said, since it’s been burnt out, my wife has almost been rear ended 3 times now and I believe it could have something to do with 90% of tail lights that is equipped with the vehicle is now burnt out due to a flaw in manufacturing. It is also a $1000+ repair being you have to replace the entire assembly. Her application of the brakes would be more well known if the entire assembly illuminated and make safer driving conditions for her and others. I understand the product needs replaced but with it being a now known flaw, I don’t believe it should be at the expenses of the vehicle owners.
Due to the 2014 dodge Durango not having a proper seal on them the race track light on my 2014 dodge Durango has been halfway burnt out and there is no reason for me to have to pay $1200 when this is a safety hazard this should be a recalled this is ridiculous. It is not safe it could cause electrical fire a short I’ve worked for emergency services and I will tell you now if your lights on the back of your car do not work properly, it is very highly dangerous.
Center hatch led strip light leak causing led to go out and back up camera to stop working. Causes hazardous conditions for backing up with camera not working and hazardous conditions while driving because don’t know if the short in few of led lights will cause all tail light/brake lights to short out also.
Durango has HID headlights. Sometimes one or both headlights do not come on. It is not the headlight bulbs. This is an intermittent problem. Sometimes left doesn't light and sometimes right doesn't light. Safety of driving at night to my family and anyone else on the road is compromised! Many reports of this same problem on cars and trucks with HID headlights. The problem has been reproduced at dealer.
Dodge Durango Race track tail light. Whole lower left side bulb out and license plate lights due to water entering that area. When you lift the truck water pours out of the light area. Dangerous to drive not sure when the whole light will give out. This is a defect on tons of Durango’s and is a safety hazard to drive. You never know when the whole light will go out do to this defect. Some will get in a accident because of this. If some can’t see your brake light especially at night this will cause a accident! In addition the police pull you over for a bad light and now no license plate lights due to this water issue .
Water in center section of factory brake lamp assembly. This causes less to burn out and are not replaceable bulbs. Only fox is to replace the light completely.

The taillight assembly leaks and fills up with water. It is available for inspection. The taillight shorts out and does not work. The potential of being rear ended is very high; threatening the lives of those in the car and those in the car behind it. Many other Dodge Durango owners have the same problem. The car has not been inspected by others. No warning lamps or symptoms. But every time it rains it is best to loosen the taillight assembly to drain as much water as possibly to prevent the malfunction again.
Rear tail light accumulates water causing a portion of the LED lights to burn out.
Internal failure of catalytic converter and body control module
The long rear tailgate lamp (called the CHMSL) suffers from water intrusion which results in LED failure. This is a reoccurring issue. I am now trying to get this lamp replaced for the 4th or 5th time (yes, I've lost track because it's ridiculous!) Dodge should do a recall and hold the lighting manufacturer accountable as it is a common problem over many years of vehicles. Why should the consumer be burdened with having to replace this lamp every 1-2 years?? Lighting is a safety feature! Failure of LED's is a safety failure. This is an automatic recall so why hasn't a recall been issued?? Nothing on the vehicle system tells you the LED's are out. This affects visibility and can lead to accident, injury or death.
Rear racetrack lighting fills with water. Could short out causing fire or no lights. Have had replaced in 2017. Now water leaking again. Common issue when searched for. Called dealers said dodge warranty has not been covering issue now. Have max care coverage.
the taillight has been getting water inside and there is no way for the water to get out. The water is taking my LED's. this should be a defect on Dodge since they made it. I speak on the other dodge owners that this needs to be fixed or recalled on this issue.
2014 Dodge Durango R/T- water pooled in the drivers side rear light, causing the LED's to short out. I called the dealership and it is well over a thousand dollars to replace this. Currently only operating with the passenger side light which is a huge problem in the state of MI. No warning lamps appeared... I noticed it after a car wash.
The rear "racetrack" tail light assembly fills with water and disables the lights. Also water gets in to the lights over the license plate and disables that light as well.

WATER COLLECTS IN THE RACETRACK TAILIGHT.
1st ALL of the interior lights won’t turn off no matter what you do. Doors all closed locked still stay on while driving can’t manually switch them off 2nd yesterday I went to pick up my daughter at school and the car all of a sudden just stopped running. It won’t start. Before it would do that and I had to exit the vehicle and use the remote start. Tried it this time and it said fob deactivated and just beeped. Then the alarm went off and wouldn’t turn off. When the alarm finally stopped the radio turned on for no reason but the car still won’t start. Fob has a new battery still won’t start. This car isn’t even old and only has 60,000 miles on it. Lucky I was pulling over and parking I could have died. Apparently this is a known issue it had to happen to me for me to find out about it. You’ll do a recall for cruise control but not this!!!’ Crazy this car is a defective death trap. It’s sitting on the curb in front of the house now since I had to have it towed home. I’m NOT driving it ever again.

THE TAIL LIGHT TRACK ACROSS THE TAILGATE CONTINUES TO TAKE ON WATER. I FIRST HAD IT REPLACED IN APRIL 2018 AT WHICH POINT I WAS TOLD THAT IT'S ABOUT $1300 FIX BUT WAS COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. FAST FORWARD AND EARLY 2020, REPLACEMENT HAS SAME ISSUE WITH CONDENSATION. IT WAS REPLACED AGAIN AND I WAS TOLD IF THERE WERE ANY ISSUES THAT I WOULD BE PAYING OUT OF POCKET AS I WAS PAST THE ORIGINAL 2 YEAR WARRANTY REPLACEMENT. IT IS NOW A YEAR LATER AND THE 2ND REPLACEMENT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS THREE TAILLIGHT FIXTURES HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. DODGE NEEDS TO PAY FOR THIS. ESSENTIALLY I'D BE PAYING $1300 EVERY TWO YEARS TO REPLACE AT THIS POINT OR HAVE BURNT OUT ELECTRIC COMPONENTS BECAUSE OF THE WATER. A $40K VEHICLE WITH 64,000 MILES ON IT.
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE AT 60 MPH MY LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER ON AND OFF. EVENTUALLY THEY STOPPED BUT THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT HAD NEVER CAME BACK ON. I REPLACED THE BULB AND STILL NOTHING. BEING ON THE HIGHWAYS I FELT I WAS CAUSING DISTRACTIONS TO OTHER DRIVERS FROM MY HEADLIGHTS MALFUNCTIONING AND PUTTING MYSELF IN DANGER WITHOUT HAVING THE PROPER LIGHTING TO DRIVE SAFELY.

I CONTACTED DODGE AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. MY INSURANCE ACCEPTED IT AS A CLAIM AND I HAD THE LAMP REPLACED. THE OLD LAMP WAS INTERMITTENTLY LIT BEFORE GOING COMPLETELY OUT.

CHRYSLER KNOWS OF THE ISSUE AND IT IS HAPPENING IN LARGE NUMBERS ON THE 2014 TO CURRENT DODGE DURANGO. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PART IS OVER $1,000 US DOLLARS AND YET THEY WILL NOT RECALL THE VEHICLES TO MAKE IT RIGHT INSTEAD THEY USE IT AS A MONEY PIT. THE LIGHT CAN LEAK IF THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR MOVING IN WET WEATHER AND SIMPLY WASHING THE VEHICLE WILL CAUSE WATER TO STAND IN THE HOUSING. THE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO GO OUT COMPLETELY GOING DOWN THE ROAD ALONG WITH THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS CAUSING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. PLEASE HELP US HARD WORKING PEOPLE OUT AND MAKE CHRYSLER ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS POORLY SEALED DESIGN BECAUSE THAT MUCH MONEY ISN'T EASY TO COME BY THESE DAYS.

DODGE IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY DUE TO THE VEHICLE AGE, HOWEVER THE FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCE INDICATES A FAULTY PRODUCT ON THEIR BEHALF AND LEAVES THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE REAR TAILLIGHT ASSEMBLY WORKING. WE NOTICED THIS ABOUT 7 MONTHS AFTER THE CAR WAS PURCHASED WHEN IT WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT DURING HEAVY RAIN. DURING LIGHT SHOWERS, IT DOES NOT DO THIS OR WHEN DRIVING BUT IF THE VEHICLE SITS IN RAIN FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME WATER STARTS TO BUILD UP INSIDE PRESENTING THE NEED TO REMOVE A BOLT AND DRAIN THE LIGHT(WHICH WE DO). THIS ALSO HAPPENS WHEN WASHING THE VEHICLE. YOU CAN SPRAY RIGHT WHERE IT WAS CRACKED AND NO WATER GETS IN BUT IF YOU SPRAY AROUND THE SIDES OF THE LIGHT WATER STARTS ENTERING. TERRIBLE DESIGN. I HAVE READ HOURS OF FORUMS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. IT IS VERY VERY COMMON ON 2014-2019 DURANGOS. THERE IS NO FIX FOR THE ISSUE. SOME HAVE GOTTEN EXTENDED WARRANTIES TO PAY FOR A NEW TAILLIGHT, THEN, A MONTH LATER, THEY HAVE WATER INSIDE THE LIGHT AND A BURNT OUT LIGHT AGAIN. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE LIGHT GOES OUT AND I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF A NASTY BLIZZARD; I CAN'T GO BUY A NEW BULB TO PUT IN IT AND I DEFINITELY CAN'T GO BUY A NEW TAILLIGHT AT $1K JUST TO HAVE IT DO THE SAME THING. DODGE NEEDS TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THE LIGHTS NEED TO BE RECALLED AND REPLACED WITH A RELIABLE DESIGN.
THE REAR TAIL LIGHT HAS GOT WATER IN THE REAR DECK LED LIGHTS. SOMETIMES CALL THE RACETRACK LIGHTS, AND CAUSED THE LED TO BURN OUT NOT HE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT. MANY HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS. DODGE WANTS $1000 TO REPAIR. THIS IS THE SECOND ONE THAT IT HAS DONE IT TO. DODGE REPLACED THE FIRST ONE UNDER WARRANTY AT THIS 22,000.

BOLTS IN THE TAILGATE HAVE TO BE REMOVED TO DRAIN THE WATER. IF THE WATER STAYS IT WILL SHORT OUT THE LIGHTS AND THEY WILL NO LONGER ILLUMINATE.

ENTIRE ASSEMBLY MUST BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1100 AT DEALER. HAVE MOPAR MAXCARE WARRANTY AND WILL NOT BE COVERED. I AM CONCERNED THIS WILL LEAD TO MORE LEDS SHORTING OUT CREATING A HAZARD FOR OTHER DRIVERS AT NIGHT. ADDITIONALLY, I AM CONCERNED FOR THE OVERALL SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AS THERE MAY BE SOME ADDITIONAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DAMAGE DUE TO THE WATER. THIS IS A PART THAT IS NOT SERVICEABLE. I COULD NOT HAVE DONE ANYTHING TO PREVENT IT. IT IS A MANUFACTURER FLAW. IT IS AN EXTERIOR PART AND SHOULD BE SEALED TO PREVENT MOISTURE, MUCH LESS WATER, FROM COLLECTING INSIDE OF IT. THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE PART THAT IS VISIBLE FOR WATER TO ENTER. I FEAR THE LACK OF LEDS OPERATING WILL PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM PASSING STATE INSPECTION. DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DODGE DEALER STATE THERE IS NO COVERAGE. THE DODGE DEALER QUOTED $1233 TO REPLACE THE PART. VEHICLE HAS 90K MILES. WE'VE HAD THE NEW ONE IN FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND JUST RECENTLY NOTICED THAT THERE IS WATER POOLING IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER OF THE LIGHTING NOW. THE LIGHT IS STARTING TO FLICKER AND I'M ASSUMING IT WILL SOON GO OUT.

REAR RACETRACK TAIL LIGHT FILLS WITH WATER. LOOKS LIKE DODGE OVERTIGHTENED THE BOLTS CAUSING THE PLASTIC TO CRACK WHICH LEADS TO THE MAIN TAIL LIGHT TO FILL WITH WATER AND SHORT OUT. THIS CAUSES THE TAIL LIGHTS TO NOT FUNCTION MAKING IT A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. OF COURSE HAPPENS WHEN VEHICLE IS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY AND DODGE WON'T DO A THING ABOUT IT, IT ACCORDING TO THEM IS A ME PROBLEM. I HAVE SEEN OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS RACETRACK DESIGN TAIL LIGHT SYSTEM IS A TERRIBLE DESIGN AND A DANGEROUS ONE.
THE HATCHBACK TAIL LIGHT WENT OUT BECAUSE WATER GETS INSIDE AND DOESN'T DRAIN. THE WHOLE BACK BRAKE LIGHT HAS CONDENSATION. THE BOTTOM LEFT PART OF LIGHT WENT OUT (SHORTED), BUT IN TIME THE WHOLE BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY WILL GO OUT. THIS WILL BE A SAFETY HAZZARD AND DODGE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE IF IT IS NOT FIXED BY RECALL.

THE ASSEMBLY IS SUPPOSED TO BE WATER TIGHT, THEREFOR THERE IS NO WAY FOR THE WATER IT COLLECTS TO DRAIN. THEREFORE, THE METAL COMPONENTS OF THIS ASSEMBLY ARE ALSO BEGINNING TO RUST DUE TO THE PERSISTENT PRESENCE OF WATER. REPLACING THIS FAILED ASSEMBLY COSTS $1,300. THIS COMPONENT SHOULD CONTINUE TO BE WATER TIGHT ON WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLES, SUCH AS MINE. THIS FAILURE FEELS LIKE A FLAW IN THE DESIGN OF THE ORIGINAL PART. DODGE SHOULD REPLACE THESE FAILED ASSEMBLIES AT A MUCH MORE REASONABLE PRICE, OR FREE OF CHARGE, DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE COMPONENT IS DESIGNED TO LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE, AND CERTAINLY ISN'T FOR ME AND MANY OTHERS.

TO BUY A NEW LIGHT FIXTURE IT WILL COST $1150 FROM A DODGE DEALER PLUS 1.5 HOURS LABOR TO INSTALL AT $90 PER HOUR. THIS IS 1/20 OF THE PRICE OF WHAT I JUST PAID TO BUY THIS USED.

THE VEHICLE WASN'T MOVING, IT WAS SIMPLY PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY OR IN THE LOT OUTSIDE OF WHERE I WORK. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THAT IT WILL WORSEN AND CAUSE EITHER SAFETY INCIDENTS BECAUSE THE LIGHTS CAN'T BE SEEN AT NIGHT, OR WILL CAUSE ME TO BE CITED BY THE POLICE FOR LIGHTS BEING OUT. IN JULY WE APPROACHED OUR PARKED DURANGO. MY WIFE NOTICED THE TAIL LIGHT WAS NOT AS BRIGHT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I HAD REMOTE STARTED THE CAR, SO WE COULD SEE THE LIGHTS. LOOKING CLOSER, WE SAW THAT IT HELD WATER. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND "GOOGLED" THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL, AND THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD BUY A NEW TAIL LIGHT FOR $1,200. I BELIEVE DODGE INTENDED OWNERS TO NEVER (EXCEPT IN THE CASE OF A COLLISION, OR IN OTHER RARE INSTANCES) NEED TO REPLACE SUCH A PRICEY PART, FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. HENCE THE LED. THEY OFFERED NO OTHER REMEDY. THIS FAILURE, ON AN ESSENTIAL SAFETY ELEMENT ON THE DURANGO, HAS BEEN NOTED BY MANY FOLKS ON THE WEB. I FOUND A YOUTUBE VIDEO, WHICH SHOWED REMOVING A FEW LIFT GATE BOLTS WOULD ALLOW THE WATER TO ESCAPE, HELPING TO LIMIT THE LOSS OF MORE OF THE LEDS INSIDE THE HOUSING. THAT WORKED, BUT IS NOT A SOLUTION TO THE DIMINISHED LIGHTING. WE NOW HAVE A SMALL SHOWER POTENTIAL WHEN STANDING UNDER OUR LIFT GATE. LIFTING THE TAILGATE REMOVES WATER, WHICH CONTINUES TO COLLECT DURING EVERY RAIN, AND EACH TIME WE WASH THE VEHICLE. LEAVING THE BOLTS IN A TRAY, INSIDE THE CABIN, SERVES TO REMIND ME OF THIS DILEMMA, AND MAY ALLOW INSECTS TO INFILTRATE THE AREA. THE WATER DAMAGE WILL ONLY INCREASE F THERE IS NO FUNCTIONING SEAL, SO AT LEAST, THIS PROVIDES AN OUTLET (BUT ONLY WHEN I LIFT THE GATE). FROM MY GOOGLE SEARCH, I LEARNED THAT THE PROBLEM HAS ALSO BEEN NOTED ON DODGE CHARGERS, AND OTHER PRODUCTS EQUIPPED WITH THIS SAME PART, AND THE FAILURE APPEARS TO STEM FROM SOME MICRO FRACTURES AT THE TOP OF THE FIXTURE. THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE MANUFACTURE OF THE LIGHT IS FLAWED, POOR MATERIALS WERE USED, OR ASSEMBLY PROCEDURES HAVE AN OVER-TORQUED NUT IN THAT AREA. SOME OF THE LIGHTS IN THE TRACK ARE OUT AND I HAVE TO KEEP REPLACING THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS. WATER IS JUST SITTING ON THE LIGHTS SO THEY BURN OUT. I'M AFRAID THIS MIGHT START A ELECTRICAL FIRE IN THE REAR DOOR OR MY REAR LIGHTS WILL JUST STOP WORKING.

IT FILLED UP TO ABOUT AND 1" AND WE MANAGED TO RELEASE THE WATER BUT PART OF THE RACE TRACK LIGHT IS BURNED OUT NOW. I STILL HAVE THE WARRANTY BUT THE DEALER SAID THAT THOSE LIGHTS ARE NOT COVERED AND THE PRICING WOULD RANGE FROM $1000-$1200 TO FIX.

I HAVE FOUND WATER INSIDE OF THE ASSEMBLY AFTER ANY VOLUME OF RAIN, BE IT A DRIZZLE OR A DOWNPOUR, AND AFTER ANY LENGTH OF CARWASHING. I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT A SMALL BIT OF WATER EITHER. DUE TO THE WATER ACCUMULATION IN THE ASSEMBLY, PART OF THE LED ASSEMBLY HAS NOW GONE DARK. DUE TO THE SHAPE OF THE LIGHT THE WATER ACCUMULATES IN THE BOTTOM CORNERS OF THE LIGHT AND JUST SITS THERE UNTIL A BRIGHT SUNNY DAY COMES ALONG TO EVAPORATE THE WATER. WHICH STILL LEAVES A LARGE AMOUNT OF CONDENSATION INSIDE OF THE ASSEMBLY. SO IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY GOES DARK AND QUITS WORKING, THAT'S THE BEST CASE SCENARIO. I HAVE READ ON EVERY MOPAR, DODGE, AND DURANGO SPECIFIC COMMUNITY FORUMS AND MESSAGE BOARDS THAT THIS IS NOT A ONE OFF ISSUE. IT SEEMS THAT 90% OF DURANGO'S WITH THIS LIGHT ASSEMBLY HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. WITH SOME CASES REPORTING VISIBLE SMOKE COMING FROM THE ASSEMBLY DUE TO A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE FROM EXTENDED WATER DAMAGE, COMPLETE LIGHT FAILURE, AND MANY OTHER ISSUES CAUSED BY SHOTTY MANUFACTURING. TO HAVE THE ASSEMBLY REPLACED IS NO CHEAP VENTURE. THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY ALONE RUNS AROUND $500 OR MORE, DEPENDING ON THE CONDITION, PLUS I'M FIGURING ANOTHER $300 TO $600 IN LABOR COST ON TOP OF THE PART COST. NONE OF THIS WORK IS COVERED UNDER ANY OF MOPAR, DODGE, OR CHRYSLER WARRANTIES. EVEN THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY I PAID ROUGHLY $4,000 FOR. THIS SITUATION HAS NUMEROUS SAFTEY CONCERNS FROM NO VISIBILITY AT NIGHT FOR THE DRIVER'S BEHIND TO A SERIOUS FIRE HAZARD WITH ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT CONSTANTLY IN WATER. WATER COLLECTS INSIDE THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY WHENEVER I DRIVE IN RAIN OR GO THROUGH AN AUTOMATIC CAR WASH. RECENTLY I NOTICED THERE WAS SEVERAL OUNCES STUCK INSIDE THE ASSEMBLY ON BOTH SIDES OF THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY MOUNTED ON THE TAILLIGHT AND PART OF THE LED LIGHT "TRACK" IS OUT. I REMOVED 2 BOLTS THAT ATTACH THE LIGHT AND WATER POURED OUT FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS. I AM CONCERNED THIS WILL PROGRESS AND MORE OF THE TAIL LIGHT WILL GO OUT. THE LED LIGHTING IS NO USER REPLACEABLE.

THERE ARE NO OBVIOUS CRACKS OR DAMAGE TO LIGHT LENS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND VERY COMMON AS I AM FINDING OUT.

THE REAR CENTER "RACETRACK' LIGHTS ARE TAKING ON LARGE AMOUNTS OF WATER. THE LEFT LOWER SIDE OF THE LIGHT PANEL IS NOW INOPERABLE AND LEAVES A DARK SPOT WHERE IT SHOULD BE ILLUMINATED. PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO MOISTURE WILL CONTINUE TO BURN OUT LIGHTS AND EVENTUALLY MAKE THE REAR LIGHTING INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NO DAMAGE TO THE EXTERIOR.

2014 DODGE DURANGO LED REAR CENTER HATCH TAIL LIGHT. PART #MOPAR 68155950AJ. PLASTIC LIGHT ON HATCH, CRACKED OPEN, ALL THE WAY THROUGH TAIL LIGHT, FOR NO APPARENT REASON. NOW SECOND CRACK HAS BEGUN AN INCH TO THE LEFT OF FIRST CRACK, BUT NOT ALL THE WAY THROUGH YET. FIRST CRACK IS WIDE AND ALLOWS WATER IN WHEN IT RAINS, AND WHEN VEHICLE IS WASHED. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, AND I AM THE ONLY OWNER, AS I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW. THIS IS A GARAGED VEHICLE. THIS IS A TERRIBLE SAFETY CONCERN, AS WATER IN TAIL LIGHT, CAUSES LED TAIL LIGHT TO FAIL. I REPORTED FACTORY ISSUE WITH TAIL LIGHT TO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP, WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. THEY SAID IT IS AN ISSUE, BUT NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY, AND I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL COSTS. UPON RESEARCHING ONLINE, I FOUND THIS ISSUE TO BE WIDESPREAD WITH ALL 2014 AND NEWER DODGE DURANGO MODELS. THIS FACTORY DEFAULT CAN CAUSE LOSS OF CENTER LED TAIL LIGHT, AND REDUCE VISIBILITY TO OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. ACCIDENTS MAY BE THE RESULT OF THIS FACTORY DEFECT. IT IS UNKNOWN WHEN THESE TWO CRACKS ORIGINALLY OCCURRED, AS THEY ARE NOT FULLY NOTICEABLE UPON A QUICK LOOK OR GLANCE. THE ONLY REASON I FOUND OUT THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY WAS CRACKED, WAS I NOTICED IT HAD AN INCH OF WATER INSIDE TAIL LIGHT.

THE DEALERSHIP STATES THERE ISN'T A CRACK BUT THE WATER IS GETTING IN AND THIS IS BECOMING A KNOW ISSUES WITH THESE VEHICLES.

OVER TIME, IT APPEARS THAT THE MATERIAL USED TO CONSTRUCT THE ASSEMBLY DEVELOPS CRACKS. THE ASSEMBLY MAY ALSO ALLOW WATER TO ENTER THE UNIT AND POOL. EVENTUALLY, THIS WILL IMPACT THE LED COMPONENTS OF THE UNIT THEREBY RENDERING THE VEHICLE A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE TAILLIGHTS WILL NO LONGER BE AS EFFECTIVE AS DESIGNED DUE TO UNIT FAILURE.

WORKING WITH THE DEALERSHIP THEY HAVE ORDERED THE REPLACEMENT PART (EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE AND WILL FIGHT WITH CHRYSLER ON THIS DEFECT) AS FROM A MILEAGE STANDPOINT I AM OUT OF WARRANTY, AND WILL ATTEMPT FURTHER REIMBURSEMENT FOR THESE EXPENSES, HOWEVER THE PART WAS ORDERED BACK IN THE MIDDLE OF MARCH 2017, AND IS STILL ON BACK ORDER AS OF 4/26/17 WITH NO RELEASE DATE.
