The active headrest failed. It is a safety issue due to it failing out of nowhere with no signs of an issue. It broke free and pushed my head forward aggressively causing neck pain. I am a licensed mechanic and verified the cause of failure.

Passenger seat Headrest popped out for no reason. Got a headache from it cause of the impact it caused. Was only driving in my neighborhood at 25mph. No accident occurred

While driving down the road the passengers headrest exploded and now I can’t get it to close back. Almost caused an accident.

Nov 25, 2024

Head rest on driver side with air bag started coming apart for no reason. I don’t see a recall Also, water keeps poking into rear tail light. No matter how many times I’ve drained it. I’ve heard this issue is called vehicle fires due to water getting into the electrical. I don’t want my vehicle to catch on fire with me or my grandkids inside. There is zero recalls and thousands of complaint regarding this issue. Dodge really need to do something about this before someone loses their life

Air bag stating it needs serviced the light will come on periodically it is not present every-time vehicle is driven.

1. I had just entered my 2015 Dodge Durango Citadel and shut the driver side door when the driver side headrest safety restraint burst open unexpectedly hitting the back of my head and thrusting it forward. Thus far, I have suffered muscle pain and soreness requiring an x-ray and some medications. 2. I had not yet started the engine. The car was sitting still in the parking lot and it was not running when the incident occurred. It frightens me thinking how bad this could have turned out had I been driving down the interstate at 70 mph or if one of my grand daughters had been sitting in that seat. 3. Post incident my husband drove the vehicle to the dealership where it was purchased, they removed the headrest and informed him Dodge had issued an extended warranty on the headrest so there would be no charge (the headrest is still at the dealership). They had to order a new headrest however, they sent him home driving the Dodge Durango with a disabled airbag system (UNSAFE). This has been a known issue with Chrysler-Jeep-DODGE since 2010 and there has been no recall. 4.The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone. I have notified my insurance company and Dodge Customer Service. There were NO warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the incident. 5. I have a call in to the dealership requesting a loaner vehicle to drive as mine is unsafe with a disabled airbag system.

My driver head rest seat deployed without an accident. It’s very difficult driving this way and unsafe

Oct 11, 2021

2015 Doge Durango, front passenger seat headrest malfunction "Active Head Restraint" and deployed while not in an accident. Headrest is available for inspection if requested. This occurred while the vehicle was being operated and caused a violent distraction. This could cause an accident as a result which would affect all in the vehicle. Additionally a direct impact/blow to the head from this defective headrest could lead to a head injury and/or cause an accident to occur. This has been reproduced in the same way by numerous consumers and third parties. Currently the defective headrest in question has not been inspected but communication with the manufacturer in progress. In regards to warning signs prior to the malfunction. There were no visible and/or audible signs this was about to occur. The headrest has received normal use which is very minimum. Research about this issue has shown this issue is documented and is present in multiple versions of the 2015 Dodge Durango but is not limited to just that year. Please investigate this issue as this is literally an accident waiting to happen.

Active head restraint randomly deployed on passenger headrest under normal driving conditions.

Aug 12, 2021

As the driver, I reached into the back seat to hand my son something and both front seat head rests deployed! There was not accident or anything that should have caused this. This could have hurt me if my head was rested on the head rest at the time and now I have two head rests that are deployed and can’t fix them! I shouldn’t have to pay for something that shouldn’t have happened without an accident occurring.

ON APRIL 26, 2020 THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT (AHR) ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY DEPLOYED WHILE IN OPERATION AT NORMAL CONDITIONS/SPEED LIMITS (30-35 MPH) ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET. NO ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES WERE INCURRED, HOWEVER THE HEAD REST HAS BEEN FULLY DETACHED AND IS NOW HANGING OPEN, REVEALING ALL EXPOSED MATERIALS INSIDE. PER THEDODGEDEALERSHIP AND MOPAR (EXTENDED WARRANTY SERVICES), REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED AND THERE WOULD BE OUT-OF-POCKET CHARGES FOR PARTS AND SERVICE UP TO $900. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, THIS COSTLY SAFETY ISSUE IS BEING EXPERIENCED BY OTHERDODGEVEHICLE OWNERS SOME OF WHOM HAVE GOTTEN THE FCA TO COVER ASSOCIATED COSTS; AND THERE IS ALSO A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN FL AS OF FEB. 2020. HOPEFULLY THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT AND AN UNREASONABLE SAFETY RISK IS GRANTED A RECALL TO REMEDY THE SITUATION SOON BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT. DRIVER SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY. HEADREST FASTENER WAS DAMAGED IN THE PROCESS MAKING THE FASTENER UNREPAIRABLE. DEALER STATES THERE IS NO CURRENT OPEN RECALL ON THIS ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE ONLINE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND THEY SAID IT WOULD BE $700 TO REPLACE. THE INVOICE SAYS THEY " INSPECTED THE HEADREST. CAN NOT BE RESET. TABS IN BACK ARE BROKEN. WILL REQUIRE NEW HEADREST." WHEN WE LOOKED AT WHAT HELD THE HEADREST TOGETHER, WE SAW TWO TINY PLASTIC PIECES HOLDING IT TOGETHER THAT BROKE. WE WERE JUST DRIVING ALONG AND IT DEPLOYED.

MY 2015 DURANGO'S "ACTIVE HEADREST RESTRAINT" DEPLOYED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY OFF. IN FACT, WE DID NOT EVEN HAVE THE KEYS WITH US. MY WIFE WAS WIPING DOWN THE SEATS AND CENTER CONSOLE, WHEN IT VERY SUDDENLY AND LOUDLY "POPPED" OPEN. WE HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, WHICH CHRYSLER REFUSED TO ACCEPT FOR THE REPAIR. VEHICLE HAD 21,000 MILES AND WAS PARKED (TURNED COMPLETELY OFF) IN A DRIVEWAY. I SUSPECT THIS HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH RECENT TEMPERATURE CHANGES, BECAUSE THIS WAS THE FIRST DAY BELOW 50 DEGREES AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS OF 90 DEGREE AVERAGE DAYS IN THE SUN.

DRIVING ON FREEWAY COMING BACK FROM PAYSON AREA AND WE HEARD A POP NOISE AT DRIVERS SEAT HEADREST AND SAW THAT THE HEADREST POPPED OPEN. WE DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS AN AIRBAG UNTIL A DODGE DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS THE AIRBAG AND IT'S NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND CAN'T TAKE CARE OF IT. KEPT ASKING IF WE WERE IN A COLLISION WHEN THE HEADREST BROKE AND WE WERE NOT! WE WERE DRIVING AT ABOUT 65 MILES AN HOUR WHEN THAT HAPPENED. WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT OUR MOTOR MOUNTS HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. WE HAVE KEPT OUR VEHICLES FOR LONGER THAN THIS BEFORE AND NEVER HAD TO REPLACE MOTOR MOUNTS. NOT SURE IF THEY ARE DEFECTIVE OR IF THESE PROBLEMS ARE JUST BECAUSE IT IS A DODGE. I HAVE NEVER OWNED DODGE BEFORE. I'VE BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH THE HEADREST OPEN FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS NOW AS ONE DODGE DEALER IN TEMPE MADE ME GO TO THE ONE IN AVONDALE SINCE THAT IS WHERE I PURCHASED IT FROM AND I HAD TO MAKE APPOINTMENTS EACH TIME AND IT TOOK FOREVER TO GET THE APPOINTMENTS FOR EACH. NOW MY NECK HURTS AS A RESULT OF DRIVING MY VEHICLE WITH MY HEAD LEANING FORWARD AND STILL I HAVEN'T HEARD FROM THE WARRANTY COMPANY OR THE DEALERSHIP. I CALLED AN 800 # AFTER THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING AND THEY WERE TO CALL ME BACK WITHIN 3 DAYS AND NOW IT'S BEEN ABOUT 2 WEEKS AND NO WORD FROM THEM. THE DATE BELOW IS APPROXIMATE. PLEASE HELP. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
