TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR OPENED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DOOR AUTOMATICALLY BY DEPRESSING THE SLIDING DOOR BUTTON; HOWEVER, IT FAILED TO CLOSE THE DOOR. THE CONTACT HAD TO CLOSE THE DOOR MANUALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TITUSVILLE CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE (5600 U.S. 1, TITUSVILLE, FL 32780, (321) 268-8970) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MOTOR SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 163,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO UNLOCK THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS WITH THE KEY FOB, THEY WOULD NOT UNLOCK. THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOORS WAS MANUALLY WITH THE KEY. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BATTERIES IN THE FOB, BUT THAT DID NOT WORK. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE REAR SLIDING DOOR DID NOT OPEN, EVEN MANUALLY WITH A KEY. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER BUT THERE WAS A FEE FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 205,000.

SIGNIFICANT RUSTING HAS SPREAD ON THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEEL CORNER PANEL AND BENEATH THE SLIDING DOOR ROCKER PANEL, LEAVING LARGE AREAS OF VISIBLE RUST AND MISSING PAINT, AS WELL AS REVEALING ERODED/CHIPPED CHUNKS OF METAL OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE. MULTIPLE BODY SHOP EXAMS HAVE SHOWN THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS ORIGINATED FROM THE INSIDE OUT, LEAVING LITTLE TO NO EASY FIX. THERE IS ALSO MINOR RUSTING OF THE SAME SORT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VAN AS WELL. EXPERT CONSULTANTS HAVE DETERMINED THAT THIS DAMAGE MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS HAZARD IF/WHEN THE ROCKER OR PANEL PORTIONS OF THE AFFECTED AREAS DROP FROM THE VEHICLE AND DAMAGE EITHER OF THE REAR TIRES. THIS ALSO POSES A RISK TO ANY TRAFFIC THAT MAY BE TRAILING THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME PARTS SEPARATING DUE TO RUST. INDEPENDENT RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT CHRYSLER HAS REMOVED CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS, SUCH AS GALVANIZATION, AS DESIGN-TO-COST MEASURES THAT HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE INCREASE IN THESE PROBLEMS IN THE FIELD. CHRYSLER SHOULD RECALL, AND IF NOT, THEN A CLASS ACTION SUIT SHOULD BE PURSUED TO HOLD CHRYSLER RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE WELL KNOWN DESIGN DEFICIENCIES.

THE LEFT SIDE REAR SLIDING DOOR STOPPED WORKING IN JUNE 2013 BY ONLY OPENING ABOUT 3 INCHES AND STOPPING, THEN LATER STARTED NOT UNLOCKING AUTOMATICALLY. YOU THEN HAD TO EITHER PULL THE DOOR OPEN OR PULL IT SHUT. IN JULY OF 2014 THE RIGHT SIDE REAR SLIDING DOOR STOPPED WORKING AND UNLOCKING AUTOMATICALLY. WE ACTUALLY STARTED HAVING PROBLEM WITH IT SHORTLY AFTER WE BOUGHT IT IN APRIL 2005. IF YOU HAD IT OPEN, IT WOULD OCCASIONALLY NOT CLOSE AT ALL EVEN MANUALLY UNTIL YOU PULLED ON IT FOR A WHILE. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER MORE THAN ONCE AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. NOW, BOTH HAVE TO BE MANUALLY UNLOCKED AND ON OCCASION THE RIGHT SIDE WILL OPEN AUTOMATICALLY AFTER YOU MANUALLY UNLOCK IT. NEITHER OF THE REAR SLIDING DOORS LOCK OR UNLOCK AUTOMATICALLY WITH THE BUTTON ON THE HEADLINER, THE AUTOMATIC BUTTON ON THE DOOR, OR WITH THE KEY. THE LEFT DOOR DOES NOT EVEN WANT TO OPEN MANUALLY FROM THE INSIDE. THIS GETS SCARY WHEN YOU HAVE A BABY SEAT ON THE OTHER SIDE AND OTHERS HAVE LEFT THE VEHICLE BEFORE YOU AND YOU HAVE NO ONE TO OPEN THE DOOR AND ARE UNABLE TO CLIMB OVER THE FRONT SEATS DUE TO HEALTH ISSUES. WHEN WE BOUGHT THE VAN WE WERE SHOWN AT THE DEALER HOW THE DOORS WOULD STOP IF THERE WAS A HAND, FOOT, OR SOMETHING IN THE DOORWAY TO AVOID INJURY, SO COULD THE MECHANICALS THAT WORK THIS BE AT FAULT?? WE NEVER WANTED TO TRY THIS TO SEE, BUT THIS IS ABOUT WHERE THE DOOR STOPS WORKING ON THE LEFT SIDE. I NOTICED THAT THERE ARE MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE DOORS NOT WORKING. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND CANNOT UNDERSTAND WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS WHY THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY CHRYSLER. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE SHIFTING HAD TO BE TAMPERED IN ORDER TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. IN ADDITION, THE AUTOMATIC DOOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE WOULD NOT CLOSE PROPERLY,WHICH CAUSED HER TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE DOOR COMPLETELY OPEN. THE PROBLEM RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. ALSO, THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.

I ACTIVATED THE PASSENGER SIDE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR. THERE WAS A POP AND A FLASH INDICATIVE OF AN ELECTRICAL SHORT AND THE DOOR NO LONGER OPENED OR CLOSED AUTOMATICALLY. I INSPECTED THE WIRES AND FOUND THAT TWO WIRES WERE BROKEN AND POSSIBLY MADE CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER, CAUSING AN ELECTRICAL SHORT. THE VEHICLE WAS INSIDE MY GARAGE AT THE TIME AND NO ONE WAS INSIDE. HOWEVER, THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION SHOULD THE VEHICLE CATCH FIRE BECAUSE OF THE FLIMSY WIRING ON THE DOORS. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR STOPPED WORKING TWO DAYS LATER, BUT WITH NO POP OR FLASH. TYPICALLY, THE SENSOR WILL CATCH WHEN THERE IS A HAND OR A CHILD PUSHING IT BACK OPEN, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN OCCASIONS, LIKE TODAY THAT IT STARTED TO OPEN, THEN ABOUT 18 INCHES AFTER IT HAD BEGUN OPENING THAT IT REVERSES AND CLOSES AND DOES NOT HAVE THE SENSOR KICK IN. TODAY THE DOOR SLAMMED INTO MY LEFT SHOULDER. I HAD TO USE ALL MY STRENGTH TO PUSH IT OFF MY SHOULDER AND TO OVERRIDE THE MOTOR TO GET IT TO OPEN. I AM SO GRATEFUL MY 2 YEAR OLD WAS STILL ON THE SHIPPING CART BECAUSE THAT WOULD HAVE CRUSHED HIS HAND IF HE WASN'T ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. MOST TIMES IT IS THE PASSENGER SIDE SIDING DOOR THAT DOES THIS. LAST WEEK WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR DID THE SAME THING, WHICH PINNED MY WRIST BETWEEN THE DOOR AND THE FRAME, AND TRIED TO CLOSE ON IT TWICE. DODGE 2005 GRAND CARAVAN. DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD REFUSE TO OPEN WITH INSIDE BUTTON BY DOOR. WOULD OPEN IF PUSHED CONSOLE BUTTON. THE DOOR WAS ADJUSTED AND DOOR MOTOR REPLACED. STILL HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR OCCASIONALLY BUMPING THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. VERIFIED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND RESOLVED BY LEAVING THE PLASTIC INTERIOR DOOR COVER OFF. THE PROBLEM WITH THE DOORS OPENING AND CLOSING BY THEMSELVES WAS FOUND IN BOTH CASES TO BE LINKED TO THE DOOR WIRING HARNESS. DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY, AND THE RIGHT REAR WINDOW OF OUR 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN (63K MILES) JUST FELL OUT AT ~60 MILES PER HOUR. THERE WAS NO WARNING, THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, THE WINDOW WAS NOT VENTED, AND NOTHING WAS UP AGAINST THE WINDOW. WE ARE FORTUNATE THAT THIS HAPPENED WHILE WE WERE IN THE RIGHT LANE, AND IT WAS THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR, SO THE WINDOW PROBABLY FELL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE ARE ALSO FORTUNATE THAT WE DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING FALL OUT THE WINDOW THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. WE REPORTED THE INCIDENT (INFORMALLY) TO THE POLICE SO THAT THEY COULD DRIVE BY THE AREA WHERE IT OCCURRED TO ENSURE THERE WERE NO ROAD HAZARDS. WE HAVE NOTHING TO EXPLAIN WHY THE WINDOW FELL OUT. WE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY CONCLUDED IT WAS NOT A DEFECT. I'M NOT SURE HOW THEY CAME TO THAT CONCLUSION, BUT THEY SEEM CONTENT THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT ANY EXPLANATION. CHRYSLER PROVIDED NO HELP IN COVERING THE $700 CHARGE TO REPLACE THE WINDOW. ALSO, WHEN I ASKED WHICH GOVERNMENT AGENCY I SHOULD CONTACT TO REPORT THIS AS A SAFETY ISSUE, THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME AN ANSWER. UPON PULLING THE BATTERY TERMINAL THESE ITEMS WILL WORK FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN CEASE TO FUNCTION AGAIN. AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLAR IN DEALER "REPAIRS" I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS DUE TO A SOFTWARE PROBLEM WITH THE BODY CONTROL MODULE ON THE 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVANS. THE FIX IS SUPPOSED TO BE A FIRMWARE UPDATE TO THE BCM PROVIDED BY DODGE. THE ISSUE I HAVE IS THAT IF THIS IS A SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE UPDATE TO THE VAN'S COMPUTER WHY SHOULD THE DEALER EXPECT ME TO PAY $70 SO MY VEHICLE WILL FUNCTION PROPERLY THE SAME AS IT DID WHEN PURCHASED. NO MODIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE VAN AND IT CURRENTLY HAS JUST OVER 60K MILEAGE. THESE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN AROUND PRIOR THE END OF THE 3/36K WARRANTY BUT SINCE SUCH A LONG TIME HAS PASSED THE DEALER WILL NO LONGER HONOR ANY TYPE OF WARRANTY ON THIS VEHICLE. ALL OF THE LISTED COMPLAINTS HAVE HAPPENED SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE FOR 3 MONTHS OR LESS... 1---WHEN I PURCHASED THE LEMON, I HEARD A THUDDING SOUND, WHILE DRIVING (COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER WHEEL WELL SIDE). I WAS ASSURED THAT THIS WAS ROAD NOISE. I PERSISTED SOMETHING WAS WRONG, ON THE 3RD ATTEMPT, THEY HAD TIGHTED/REPLACED A "SWAY BUSHING" (FORGIVE ME I THINK THAT IS WHAT IT WAS CALLED). I DIDN'T HEAR THE NOISE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND IT RETURNED. I HAD BROUGHT IT IN ABOUT 3 ADDITIONAL TIMES TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERS, FINALLY TELLING ME THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEIR SUGGESTION TO BE WAS TO TURN UP THE RADIO!! OUT OF PURE IT GETS ON MY !@#$ NERVES ATTITUDE, TOOK IT TO ANOTHER PLACE I 6/07, AND REPLACED THE STRUTS AND SHOCKS....STILL HEAR THE THUDDING....2.5 YEARS AFTER INITIAL COMPLAINT! 2----MY HEADLIGHTS MOST OF THE TIME, DO NOT COME ON. OR IF YOU ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT, THEY GO OFF WITHOUT NOTICE...HOW IS THIS SAFE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY...AGAIN COULD NOT DUPLICATE. 3----MY WIPERS RUB FUNNY WHILE IN USE, WHICH FINALLY CAUSED MY BACK WIPER TO JUST NOT WORK ON 7/4/2005. I GO THRU AN UNREASONABLE PAIRS OF WINDOW WIPERS---ONCE AGAIN, COULD NOT DUPLICATE. THIS REPAIR IS STILL ON THE BACK BURNER FOR ME TO FIX. 4--HAD TO REPLACE THE EGR VALVE TO PASS INSPECTION/EMISSIONS....WHAT ABOUT 7/70? 5-RUST! CRACKS IN ROOF UNDER PLASTIC MOLDING IN BODY ASSEMBLY , WHICH WAS NOT COVERED AFTER 36,000 MILES,DENIED BY DODGE BUT SOME ASSISTANCE FROM DEALER AFTER YELLING, CAUSED WATER LEAKAGE INTO RIGHT PILLAR ASSEMBLY , FLOOR COMPARTMENT AND UNKNOWING TO US SUB CARPETING. I AM CONCERNED WITH OVERALL QUALITY CONTROL ON THIS VEHICLE. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW TO PROVIDE SAFETY AND COMFORT FOR MY GROWING FAMILY. I WAS DISAPPOINTED IN THE VEHICLES PERFORMANCE AND GAS MILEAGE DURING THE FIRST SEVERAL WEEKS OF OWNERSHIP. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE OXYGEN SENSOR UNITS THAT THEY SAID WHERE DEFECTIVE. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER THE HEATER/AIR CONDITIONING BLOWER WENT OUT. NEXT WITH LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE I HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES. NOW WITH LESS THAN 28.000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR WAS SOAKED, THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING UNUSUAL SOUNDS WHEN TURNING AND THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE AUTOMATICALLY. AT THE DEALERSHIP I FOUND OUT THAT THE RACK AND PINION STEERING UNIT HAD FAILED ALONG WITH THE THE CABLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. ON INVESTIGATION OF THE WATER LEAK THE DEALERSHIP FOUND THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE PILLAR HAD NOT BEEN SEALED PROPERLY TO THE ROOF CAUSING WATER TO RUN INTO THE VAN AND ROT THE CARPET. WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN FOR REPAIRS THE DEALERSHIP IS ALSO REPLACING THE HEATER/AIR CONDITIONER BLOWER WHICH IS MAKING GRINDING SOUNDS AGAIN. *NM

DASH BOARD LIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY FLICKER. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TOMORROW FOR A RECALL AND WILL BE INSPECTED FOR THE FIRST TIME FOR THE LIGHTS FLICKERING. ADDITIONALLY, THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR HAS MADE A STRANGE NOISE WHEN THE CHAIN ENGAGES TO OPEN EVER SINCE THE VAN WAS PURCHASED. IT WAS INSPECTED ONCE WITH THE DEALER NOT FINDING ANYTHING WRONG. A YEAR LATER, THE DOOR ONLY OPENS 1/2 WAY WHEN REMOTE OR BUTTON IS USED AND WILL NOT CLOSE WITH THE USE OF EITHER. THIS WILL BE INSPECTED TOMORROW AS WELL. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH THROUGH A FLOODED AREA, WATER SEEPED IN THROUGH THE PLUG OPENING FOR THE SPARE TIRE. DUE TO THE WATER, THE PLASTIC COVER WAS PULLED HALFWAY OFF THE TIRE, CAUSING IT TO DRAG ON THE ASPHALT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHERE THE DEALER DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THE DEFECT WAS DUE TO WATER SPRAYING UNDER THE COVER OF THE TIRE THEREFORE WEIGHING IT DOWN.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE EXHAUST PIPE PROTRUDES BELOW THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. THE CHILD MAY TOUCH THIS PIPE. UPDATED 5/10/2006 - THE EXHAUST PIPE PROTRUDES BELOW THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE AND IS TOO CLOSE TO THE OUTSIDE EDGE (ROCKER PANEL). THE PIPE IS LOCATED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHICH IS THE SIDE THE CONSUMER CHILD SAFETY SEAT IS INSTALLED. WHEN THE SLIDING DOOR IS OPENED THE CHILD COULD BE BURNED BY THE PIPE. THE CONSUMER INDICATED THAT THE PIPE IS ONLY LIKE THIS ON THE STOW AND GO MODEL GRAND CARAVAN. UPDATED 5/10/2006 - THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE HAD TO BE REPLACED AND REROUTED. THE ENGINE RAN ROUGH WHILE IDLING AND IN PARK. THE FUEL GAUGE WAS ERRATIC. AT 1/4 OF A TANK OR LESS THE NEEDLE MOVES BACK AND FORTH FROM EMPTY TO 1/4 OF A TANK. *NM

WE OWN A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH NO AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR. AFTER PURCHASING IT IN NOV 2004 AND UPON PERIODIC OPERATION OF THE DOOR, MY BACK STARTED GETTING SORE AND PAINFUL. ONE DAY IN FEB OF 2005 AFTER CLOSING THE BACK DOOR MANUALLY WITHIN 2 DAYS I REACHED OVER FOR AN APPLE THAT FELL ON THE FLOOR AND FELL TO THE FLOOR IN TERRIBLE PAIN AND HAD TO BE RUSHED TO THE DOCTOR. I STILL HAVE PROBLEMS UNTIL THIS DAY AND NOW HAVE PROTRUDING DISKS IN MY LOWER BACK. I HAVE NEVER HAD LOW BACK PROBLEMS AND NOW SCIATICA BEFORE FEB 2005. HAVE 2005 GRAND CARAVAN. IT HAS 24,000 MILES. THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. I AM TAKING IT TO THE DEALER TOMORROW. ALSO, THE DRIVER INTERIOR MAP LIGHT DOESN'T WORK, EVENTHOUGH THE BULB IS OK. (AM HAVING THAT CHECKED TOMORROW, TOO.) WHEN THE LIGHT FIRST WENT OUT, THE AUTOMATIC SIDE DOORS STOPPED WORKING. THEY DIDN'T WORK FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS AND WHEN I DECIDED I HAD TIME TO GO TO THE DEALER TO GET IT CHECKED, THE DOORS STARTED WORKING AGAIN AND HAVE SEEMED FINE SINCE. THE LIGHT , HOWEVER, STILL DOESN'T WORK. THE REAR PASSENGER MAP LIGHTS ALSO COME ON RANDOMLY (USUALLY OVERNIGHT). THERE IS A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT END.
