DURING PARK REAR PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE MANUALLY AND ELECTRONICALLY, SOMEONE FROM THE OUTSIDE HAS TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE UNLOCK MECHANISM IS UP BUT THE DOOR BUTTON FROM THE INSIDE WOULD NOT PUSH DOWN, THEREFORE NOT ALLOWING THE VAN DOOR TO OPEN. THIS IS BIG SAFETY PROBLEM, NO ONE CAN GET OUT MANUALLY AND ELECTRONICALLY FROM THE INSIDE. TOOK IT TO DODGE AND THEY CLAIM IT'S THE WIRE, BUT IT'S NOT BECAUSE THE WIRE IN GREAT CONDITION, BECAUSE IT'S BEEN REPLACE AND STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT'S NOT MOTOR BECAUSE ONCE IN A BLUE MOON IT WOULD OPEN PARTIALLY, BUT IT WOULD CLOSED AUTOMATICALLY IMMEDIATELY. I HAVE FILE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS TO DODGE BUT NOTHING WAS DONE. 1ST OCCURRENCE: WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY ON A HOT DAY THE CAR STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. ON ATTEMPTED RESTARTS CAR WOULD FIRE FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS AND QUIT. TRIED OTHER KEY: NO HELP. AFTER ABOUT 7 OR 8 ATTEMPTS THE CAR WOULD NOT CRANK AND SOLENOID CLICKED. TOWED HOME. CAR SET CODES P0339 AND P0344(INTERMITTENT CRANK AND CAM SENSOR). CHARGED BATTERY . REPLACED BOTH SENSORS CAR INITIALLY WOULD NOT START, THEN MYSTERIOUSLY FIRED UP AND RAN FINE. OK FOR ABOUT A MONTH. BATTERY TESTED OK CHARGING VOLTAGE GOOD WHEN RUNNING. NOT RELATED TO HAVING JUST (OVER)FILLED GAS TANK. (MUCH ON INTERNET ABOUT THIS: BAD VALVE IN TANK ALLOWS EVAP TO FLOOD) 2ND OCCURRENCE. ONCE AGAIN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY HOT DAY. ONCE AGAIN STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. SAME SYMPTOMS ON ATTEMPTED RESTART. AFTER WAITING ABOUT 15 MINUTES, CAR RESTARTED, RAN ABOUT 4 MILES AND STALLED AGAIN. ATTEMPTED FOUR OR FIVE RESTARTS, THEN BATTERY APPEARED TO RUN DOWN. HEADLIGHTS WOULD DIM ON START ATTEMPT. AFTER A WHILE THE CAR STARTED AGAIN BUT RAN ROUGHLY ON ACCELERATION. ONCE AGAIN SET SAME CODES. AT THIS POINT I NOTICED SOME ELECTRICAL ANOMALIES. UPON KEY ON, THE TEMP, FUEL, AND TACH GAUGES WOULD PEG HIGH AND THEN FALL BACK TO NORMAL. THE POWER WINDOWS BEGAN TO OPERATE WITHOUT THE KEY ON. TOW TRUCK ARRIVED AND GOT IT HOME. CAR RESTARTED IN GARAGE. REPLACED BOTH SENSORS AGAIN AND BATTERY (SUSPECTED INTERMITTENT OPEN). 3RD OCCURRENCE ON TEST DRIVE GOT ABOUT 5 MILES AND ONTO HIGHWAY. ONCE AGAIN STALLED. THIS TIME RESTARTED, TURNED AROUND AND GOT ABOUT 2 MILES THEN QUIT AGAIN. THIS TIME NO RESTART( SAME 2-3 SECONDS). THIS TIME SET CODE P0344 ONLY(CAM SENSOR INTERMITTENT). PASSENGER POWER SLIDING DOOR FAILED, REPLACED POWER DOOR MOTOR, LOCK ACTUATOR, AND REPAIRED WIRING AS THE WIRES ACTUALLY BREAK/SNAP OVERTIME. POOR DESIGN. 2. LESS THAN TWO YEARS LATER PASSENGER POWER SLIDING DOOR HAS FAILED AGAIN, & POWER LOCKS WILL NOT WORK, & I CAN OPEN PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR AFTER LOCKING VEHICLE WITH KEY FOB AND ALARM WON'T SOUND! CANNOT GET MY CHILDREN IN AND OUT OF THIS DOOR WITHOUT REACHING IN AND PULLING UP THE LEVER FROM INSIDE (TOO STIFF, MY DAUGHTER ISN'T STRONG ENOUGH). THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND RESEARCHING IT ONLINE SHOWS THAT IT IS WIDESPREAD. 3. POWER SEAT MOTOR HAS FAILED. WE HAVE STOW N GO SEATING. I ASKED THEN IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THIS AND WAS TOLD NO. I ASKED WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE LIGHT TO MELT AND HE SAID HE DID NOT KNOW. I TURNED THE IGNITION ON, PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND BACKED OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. I PUSHED ON THE BRAKES AND PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE. THE CAR BEGAN MOVING FORWARD FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS AND THEN IT LOST ALL POWER WITH NO WARNING, JUST STALLED. THE CAR'S HEAT SENSOR GAUGE WAS NORMAL JUST BELOW HALFWAY AND I HAD A HALF TANK OF GAS. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. IT DIDN'T FEEL LIKE THE BRAKES WERE WORKING EITHER. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND THEN STARTED IT UP AGAIN WITH NO PROBLEMS. IT DROVE TO MY DESTINATION WITHOUT ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS.

AIR BAG IS POSSIBLY IN A NON-WORKING CONDITION - THUS LEAVING THE POTENTIAL FOR BODILY HARM IF A CRASH SHOULD OCCUR. THIS IS OKAY DURING THE DAY, HOWEVER I LIVE OUT IN THE COUNTRY 15 MINUTES FROM THE NEAREST TOWN. I CANNOT DRIVE AT NIGHT WITHOUT HEADLIGHTS OR WITH THE POSSIBILITY THAT THEY WILL SHUTOFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I HAVE BEEN LUCKY SO FAR THAT NOTHING SERIOUS HAS HAPPENED BUT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT MUST BE FIXED! ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2010 THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR TO MY 2007 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN CAUGHT FIRE 1 FOOT FROM MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO WAS STRAPPED IN A 5 POINT HARNESS CAR SEAT. I PICKED MY SON UP FROM SCHOOL AT APPROXIMATELY 5:45, WITH MY DAUGHTER IN TOW. I OPERATED THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR TO PUT HER BACK INTO HER SEAT AFTER SIGNING OUT MY SON WITH NO ISSUE. I NOTICED NOTHING WRONG WITH THE DOOR. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE TO MY HOUSE. HALFWAY HOME I SMELLED SOMETHING AND WHEN I PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY, I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM AN UNKNOWN SOURCE. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY AIR CONDITIONING UNIT AND BY TURNING THE CAR OFF I WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF THE SMOKE. I TRIED TO OPERATE THE AUTOMATIC DOORS FOR MY REAR PASSENGER DOORS BUT THEY DIDN'T WORK. I WAS ABLE TO MANUALLY OPEN MY REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO OPEN THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR NO MATTER HOW HARD I PULLED. I HAD NO IDEA THAT DOOR WAS ON FIRE AT THAT POINT. I NOTICED NOTHING WRONG WITH THE DOOR OTHER THAN IT WOULDN'T OPEN. I HAD TO CLIMB INTO THE BACK THROUGH THE OTHER SIDE TO GET MY DAUGHTER. I WENT IN TO THE HOUSE, STILL THINKING THAT EVERYTHING WOULD STOP SMOKING ONCE THE CAR COOLED DOWN AND LET MY DOG OUT IN THE BACK YARD. I CAME BACK AROUND TO THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE AFTER 5 MINUTES. I SAW GRAY SMOKE BILLOWING OUT OF THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR I HAD LEFT OPEN TO AIR OUT THE CAR. I WALKED AROUND TO THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AND I SAW THE PAINT BUBBLING AND MELTING AND LITTLE FLAMES LICKING THE GLASS OF THE DOOR. AT THAT POINT I CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND MY NEIGHBOR TOOK THE HOSE TO THE CAR TO PUT OUT THE EXTERNAL FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME IN 5 MINUTES AND PUT OUT THE FIRE IN THE DOOR. THEY GAVE ME THE BURNED PIECE AND SAID THEY BELIEVED THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE MOTOR FOR THE AUTOMATIC DOOR. I CALLED IN A COMPLAINT TO CHRYSLER/DODGE. MY REFERENCE NUMBER IS 19962230 WITH THEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. FROM SEPTEMBER OF 2007 UNTIL MAY OF 2008, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES FOR TRANSMISSION FAILURE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A RED LIGHT, THE TRANSMISSION FEELS AS IF IT WILL DROP TO THE GROUND WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. ON MAY 14, 2008, THE TRANSMISSION WAS FINALLY REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION BECAUSE PAINT WAS PEELING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE QUARTER PANEL. THE DEALER STATED THAT TAR ADHERED TO THE PAINT; THEREFORE, THEY WASHED THE QUARTER PANEL AND SCRAPED OFF THE PAINT. WHEN THE VEHICLE AND HEADLIGHTS ARE TURNED OFF, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS, FOG LIGHTS, AND HEADLIGHTS WOULD REMAIN ILLUMINATED, EVEN THOUGH THE SWITCH WAS IN THE OFF POSITION. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE AUTOMATICALLY, WHICH DRAINED THE BATTERY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HEADLAMP SWITCH SHORTED OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SWITCH ON THE PANEL TO SHUT THE VEHICLE DOORS DID NOT WORK FOR TWO DAYS. IT HAS BEGUN TO WORK AGAIN, BUT THE CONTACT BELIEVES IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE SWITCH FAILS AGAIN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,500. ON 8/22/07 I PURCHASED A 2007 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN FROM ED NAPLETON DODGE IN OAKLAWN, ILLINOIS. ON 10/5/07 WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE, IT OVERHEATED AND THE STEERING WENT OUT OF CONTROL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE HARD TO STEER. LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD THE ALTERNATOR BELT WAS IN SHREDS. WE PURCHASED AN 07' DODGE GRAND CARAVAN JUNE 07 AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS W/ IT SINCE SHORTLY AFTER THE PURCHASE. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP TWICE FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND IS CONTINUING TO HAVE THE PROBLEM. WHEN WE HAD IT IN THE LAST TIME WE WERE TOLD CHRYSLER WAS WORKING ON THE PROBLEM AND WOULD HAVE SOMETHING DURING THE MONTH OF AUGUST ... WELL I PHONED SEPT 11 12:15 PM AND WAS TOLD AT THAT TIME THEY STILL HAD HEARD NOTHING IN REGARDS TO THE ISSUE. IT STARTED OUT THAT THE VAN WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR WHEN COMING TO A STOP ... FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS GOING TO DROP OUT AT TIMES. IT THEN MOVED TO DOING THIS WHILE IN MOTION AS WELL ... THE DEALER ASSURED US THAT NOTHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN IT IS A COMPUTER PROBLEM THAT CHRYSLER IS WORKING ON. THERE ARE OTHER KNOWN CUSTOMERS W/ THE SAME PROBLEM. WHEN WE HAD IT IN THE SHOP THE FIRST TIME A DX WAS RAN ON THE COMPUTER TO RESET EVERYTHING ... DIDN'T HELP AT ALL. HAD IT BACK IN A WEEK LATER FOR 9+DAYS AND AT THAT TIME THEY DROPPED THE TRANSMISSION OUT AND REPLACED THE CLUTCHES AND SOMETHING ELSE TOO. AS SOON AS WE DROVE IT OFF THE LOT IT WAS BACK TO SQUARE ONE. MY KEY HAS GOTTEN STUCK IN THE IGNITION ONCE SO FAR ... DIDN'T TAKE IT IN BUT DID PHONE TO LET THEM KNOW ABOUT THE ISSUE. THAT HAPPENED DURING THE MONTH OF JULY .... NOW MY BACK AUTOMATIC DOORS WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE SWITCH LOCATED NEAR THE DOORS, AND MY PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WAS ROLLED DOWN YESTERDAY (09/15/07) AND DIDN'T WANT TO GO BACK UP. I DID FINALLY GET IT UP BUT SCARED TO TRY AND ROLL IT DOWN AGAIN. *JB
