The heat exhaust from the motor heats the forward cab even if all of the vents are closed.
The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at various speed, the transmission made an abnormal whining sound upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the service engine warning light remained illuminate on the instrument panel. The contact stated that after he pulled over and restarted the vehicle, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who informed him that the transmission needed to be replaced. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. ( THE HORN WILL BLOW CONTINUOUSLY IF NOT TAMPERED WITH AND DISABLED. AS IN THIS SITUATION WITH THE 20008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. RESOURCE '. THE USED CAR LOT OWNER WILL THEN REPOSSESS SAID VEHICLE AND SELL IT TO ANOTHER UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMER WHO WILL BUY THE CARAVAN THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BECAUSE THE COST OF SAID VEHICLE REPAIR PART (TMPI) IS $1,080.00 AND $115.00 LABOR COST TO FIX THE REPAIR AN HOUR. THERE WERE STILL NO INDICATIONS OF A FAILURE (CEL OR SES LIGHT). NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES WERE STORED ON THE COMPUTER. BECAUSE THIS HAPPENS COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED, IF IT WERE TO OCCUR WHILE GOING AROUND A CURVE OR IN AN INTERSECTION THERE IS A SAFETY CONCERN.

THE EGR VALVE DANGEROUSLY CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO QUIT EVEN WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD AT 40MPH WITH ALL FOUR OF MY KIDS IN TOW, WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND VEHICLE COMPLETELY QUIT. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL HARD ON THE WHEEL TO PULL OVER. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VAN. THE VALVE IS APPARENTLY FAILING TO SEND FUEL TO THE NECESSARY AREAS OF THE ENGINE CAUSING IT TO SHUT COMPLETELY DOWN. THIS HAS NOW OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND I NO LONGER TRUST THIS VEHICLE AS A SAFE AND DEPENDABLE FAMILY VEHICLE.

I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE ANOTHER HALF MILE TO MY HOME. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING, THAT I HAVE LOST ALL ENGINE POWER AND STEERING, IT IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THE VAN HAS ACTED OUT. WIPERS WILL SUDDENLY START MOVING WHEN I AM DRIVING OR THE HORN WITH SUDDENLY SOUND AND RADIO WILL CUT OUT. I HAVE ALSO HAD IT GO CRAZY WITH WINDSHIELD WIPERS MOVING, HORN HONKING, LOCKS MALFUNCTIONING AND FLUID SPRAYED ALL OVER THE CAR WHEN I UNLOCKED IT. MY WIFE ONCE HAD MY KIDS TRAPPED INSIDE OF THE CARE FOR 10 MINS UNTIL I COULD I DRIVE OVER AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS THE TIPM ACTING UP. IT HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN 10 TIMES. I DO NOT TRUST THE VEHICLE. I HAVE READ ABOUT MANY MORE INSTANCES ONLINE. THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF IT WAS IN RUSH HOUR OR ON A BUSIER ROAD.

THEY ARE REDOING THE RECALL FROM A YEAR AGO THAT DUTCH MILLER HAD PERFORMED. THIS IS THE FOURTH WEEK THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THE VEHICLE AND RECALL PROBLEM. I HAVE REQUESTED MANY TIMES FOR A RENTAL CAR AND BOTH THE LIFETIME WARRANTY I PURCHASED WITH THE VAN AND DODGE HAVE BOTH REFUSED TO PROVIDE ME A VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN SINCE MARCH 26, 2016. THIS VAN DIES WHILE IN OPERATION, MOST OFTEN WITHIN THE FIRST 5 MILES OF DRIVING IN THE MORNING. IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE IT HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE DAY, SOMETIMES MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY. IT APPEARS TO HAPPEN MOST FREQUENTLY WHEN DECELERATING (UPON TAKING OUR FOOT OFF THE GAS, THE TACHOMETER BOUNCES WAY DOWN (~500RPM OR SO), THEN STUTTERS A BIT, THEN THE VEHICLE STALLS/DIES. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE TURNING AT AN INTERSECTION SEVERAL TIMES, AND WE NARROWLY ESCAPED A COLLISION. WE HAVE HAD 2 KEY FOB RECALLS PERFORMED, AS CHRYSLER HAD ATTRIBUTED THE PROBLEM TO FAULTY FOBS/IGNITION SWITCHES....THE MOST RECENT RECALL WAS PERFORMED LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO. NO CHANGE WAS NOTED AFTER THE RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED. THE PROBLEM RARELY HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY, ALTHOUGH IT DID HAPPEN TO MY WIFE LAST WEEK WHILE SHE WAS AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE. IT DID NOT STOP AND THE DOORS WOULD NOT UNLOCK. I HAD TO USE THE HIDDEN KEY IN THE KEY FOB TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DOOR TO OPEN THE HOOD AND DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. I RECONNECTED IT AND ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE IT TO MY MECHANIC. IT STALLED AFTER ABOUT 50 FEET. I ENDED UP BEING ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE MECHANIC FOUR DAYS LATER. MY MECHANIC SAID IT HAD 6 RECALLS ON IT (WHICH I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF) AND NEEDED THE TIPM REPLACED, WHICH WAS NOT A PART OF A RECALL. HE SAID CHRYSLER WOULD NOT ALLOW HIM TO BUY THE PART AND I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER. HE SAID THE PART IS $780 AND DOES NOT INCLUDE LABOR! I CANNOT AFFORD THIS AND I NEED THIS VEHICLE! I HAVE THREE KIDS! I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND SAW THAT THIS PART ON MY VAN WAS A PART OF A LAWSUIT. WHEN THEY SETTLED THE LAWSUIT, THEY DID NOT INCLUDE THE 2008 GRAND CARAVAN. THIS IS THE SAME EXACT FAULTY PART THAT IS IN THE OTHER VEHICLES THAT ARE COVERED BY THE LAWSUIT/RECALL! I TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALER THEY FIRST STATED IT NEEDED NEW BATTERY CABLES.. I TOLD THEM THAT WILL NOT FIX THE ISSUE.. IT IS MORE THAN THAT. KEEP THE VEHICLE UNTIL YOU FIND THE REAL SOLUTION. NOW THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME IT IS THE INTEGRATED POWER MODULE ($950) ON TOP ON THE CLOCK SPRING THAT THEY REPLACED FOR ($550). ON JANUARY 3, 2016 I HAD THE RECALL TAKEN CARE OF AT SHERWOOD SERVICE IN SALISBURY, MD. I HAVE NEVER HAD THE ENGINE FAILURE HAPPEN BEFORE HAVING THE RECALL FIXED, AND NOW, IT IS HAPPENING. WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN THE LAST TIME, MY HUSBAND WHO WAS DRIVING HAD TO CALL THE POLICE TO DIRECT TRAFFIC AROUND THE VAN UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK GOT THERE SO HE WOULD NOT BE HIT! IT BLOCKED AN INTERSECTION FOR 30 MINUTES UNTIL THE VAN WAS TOWED AWAY, WHEN THE VAN GOT HOME ON THE TOW TRUCK, IT STARTED UP WITH NO PROBLEM. WE HAD IT ALL CHECKED OUT, THEY CHARGED US AROUND 400 FOR FLUSHES AND SUCH, THE REST WAS GREAT AND READY ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. 2 DAYS INTO OUR TRIP, WE GOT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. WE WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN ATLANTA, LEFT IT FOR 2 DAYS, AND RENTED A VEHICLE. THEY SAID NO ISSUES FOUND. WE STARTED FOR FLORIDA ONLY TO FIND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD ALWAYS BE ON AFTER THEN. AFTER THAT THE VAN SEEMS TO WORK FOR A WHILE, THEN ONE DAY MY HUSBAND CAME HOME FROM WORK AND TRIED TO SHUT THE VAN OFF, BUT IT WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. THE HORN STARTED BLOWING AND THE WIPES, WIPER FLUID, LIGHTS AND DOOR LOCKS WERE ALL WORKING ALL BY THEMSELVES. WE UNATTACHED THE WIRES TO THE BATTERY BUT THAT DID NOT WORK AND FINALLY STARTED PULLING FUSES UNTIL IT ALL STOPPED. HE DROVE TO WORK WITHOUT THE FUSES UNTIL WE COULD GET IT FIXED. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS A RECALL AROUND MAY 2015. WE BROUGHT THE VAN INTO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION MODULE AND GAVE US NEW KEY FOBS. THE VAN STALLED AGAIN ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK AND WE CALLED AAA TO GET THE VAN AND TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THAT THEY CHECKED ALL THE ELECTRIC AND RAN A PURGE MONITOR TEST AND OTHERS. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING THE MATTER WITH THE VAN AND CHARGED US $200. JUST RECENTLY WE WERE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AT AROUND 20 MILES PER HOUR AND THE VAN STALLED AGAIN. THIS TIME WE DID NOT HAVE TIME TO MOVE IT AND A TRUCK DRIVER HELPED TO PUSH US OUT OF TRAFFIC. I WAITED ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND WENT BACK OUTSIDE AND RECONNECTED THE BATTERY AND IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN. THIS TIME I TRIED STARTING THE CAR AND IT STARTED HOWEVER IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO PUT IT INTO GEAR. I TRIED TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF BUT IT WOULD NOT LET ME. I GOT OUT AND THEN I REMOVED THE FUSES TO THE HORN SO THE NOISE WOULD NOT DISTURB ME OR THE NEIGHBORS. A FEW MINUTES LATER I GOT BACK INTO THE CAR AND IT LET ME PUT IT IN REVERSE SO I PULLED THE VAN OUT OF OUR GARAGE AND INTO THE DRIVEWAY BUT THE POWER STEERING DID NOT WORK. I TRIED AGAIN TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF BUT IT WOULD NOT STOP. I EVEN MOVED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AGAIN BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN AS DID THE WIPERS AND HAZARD LIGHTS. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES THE ENGINE FINALLY SHUT OFF. HOWEVER YOU COULD SMELL THE ANTIFREEZE AS IT BURNS OFF BECAUSE IT COMES DIRECTLY INTO THE CAB. I HAVE READ THAT CHRYSLER IS NOT RECALLING THIS DUE TO IT NOT BEING A SAFETY ISSUE. I TEND TO DISAGREE WITH THIS AS INHALING ANTIFREEZE CAN OVERTIME CAN BE HARMFUL AS INGESTING IT IS. AND SINCE THIS IS TYPICALLY A FAMILY VEHICLE COULD AFFECT YOUNGER CHILDREN GREATER SUCH AS MY 14 MONTH OLD AND THREE OLDER CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 11. CHRYSLER WILL FIX THIS AT THE DEALER FOR A WHOPPING $350 AND TO BUY THE PART ALONE TO DYI IS $140. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AS IT CAN BE REPLACED WITH $10 WORTH OF PARTS FROM LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE. SO NOT ONLY IS THERE A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED DUE TO THE SAFETY RISK, BUT CHRYSLER IS CHARGING WAY TOO MUCH FOR THE REPAIR. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO PULL OVER ON THE PA TURNPIKE BUT WAS IN DANGER OF BEING HIT AS I WAS TRAVELING IN THE LEFT LANE. CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. WAITED 20 MINUTES AND CAR DID INITIALLY RESTART. HOWEVER, WHEN IT RESTARTED, ONCE DRIVEN, IT WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS--IT WAS STUCK IN 1ST. (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) PULLED OVER AGAIN. WAITED 10 MINUTES, STARTED DRIVING, AND CAR FUNCTIONED BUT "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" WAS ON. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER IMMEDIATELY. THEY INITIALLY BLAMED THE FOB, WHICH I REPLACED. WHEN THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW MONTHS LATER, IT WAS AGAIN TAKEN TO DEALER AND SINCE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIX IT. IN JULY OF THIS YEAR, STARTED THIS BEHAVIOR AGAIN BUT NOW WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER THE ENGINE CUT OFF. (AGAIN TRAVELING HIGH SPEED) THEN THE ENGINE CUT OFF A DAY LATER WHILE ONLY GOING 40 MILES AN HOUR. TOOK CAR TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY CHANGED THE WIN MODULE. (BUT TELL ME THAT ALL THREE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ARE REGISTERING ERRORS) I PAID TO REPLACE WIN MODULE, HAD CAR FOR 1 WEEK, WENT TO START IT AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. REPLACED STARTER RELAY. PICKED CAR UP ON A WEDNESDAY AND ON THURSDAY, ENGINE SHUT DOWN ON ME WHILE DOING 20 MPH. AGAIN, WOULD NOT RESTART. CAR CURRENTLY AT DEALERSHIP BUT THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S WRONG. THIS IS A HAZARD!! THIS STALLING HAS OCCURRED DAILY AT SPEED AROUND 30 MPH, AND I HAVE TO QUICKLY PUSH CONTROL TO NEUTRAL, TRY TO RESTART IGNITION (USUALLY STARTS IN ABOUT 2 TO 3 SECONDS) TO REGAIN POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKE CONTROLS. ENGINE FINALLY STARTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP. DIAGNOSED AS A 'BAD WIN MODULE' (WIRELESS IGNITION NODE). THE TECHNICIAN ACTUALLY GUESSED THE PROBLEM WAS THE WIN MODULE BEFORE DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM. HE SAID IT WAS A 'FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM'. AN ONLINE INVESTIGATION REVEALED THIS PART HAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH IT IN THE 2010 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN (OUR DODGE GRAND CARAVAN IS A 2008). THE REASON I AM WRITING THE NHTSA IS THE NEWLY REPLACED WIN MODULE IS CLEARLY A REDESIGNED PART. IT LOOKS AND FUNCTIONS DIFFERENTLY THAN THE OLD, FAULTY WIN MODULE. IF DODGE REDESIGNED THE PART, THEY MUST HAVE ASSUMED THE EARLIER DESIGN WAS DEFECTIVE IN SOME WAY. TO JUSTIFY THE NEED FOR A REDESIGN, THERE HAD TO BE SOME DRIVING FACTOR LIKE IMPROVED SAFETY. WEEKS AFTER I WAS ON THE HIGH WAY WITH MY WHOLE FAMILY AND I SAY SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND WE PERCEIVED A STRONG BURN SMELL, THE MILEAGE ON THAT TIME WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000, WE JUST MADE IT TO ARRIVE TO THE DEALER SERVICE AND THEY FOUND A VERY LOW COOLANT LEVEL WHICH MEANS THAT THE OVERHEATING WAS RELATED TO THE COOLANT LINE. NEXT DAY I TOOK THE CAR TO THE SERVICE, THE CAR WAS THERE FOR 7 DAYS AFTER I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR NEEDS AN ENGINE CHANGE WHICH I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY. THE DEALER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER BUT ALL I RECEIVED FROM THEM WERE 8 OIL CHANGES. LUCKILY THERE WAS ENOUGH TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD THAT ONLY ALLOWED US TO TRAVEL AROUND 25 MPH AT THE TIME THE VAN STALLED. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED ON THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS, PUT THE VAN IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE VAN. THE SAME ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURRING, BUT NEVER DUPLICATES FOR THE DEALERSHIP. THEIR COMPUTER SCAN BRINGS UP NO ISSUES. THE BATTERY HAS BEEN TESTED AND IS IN GOOD CONDITION. IT DOESN'T MATTER THE TIME OF DAY, OR DRIVING CIRCUMSTANCES, THE VAN WILL NOT ALWAYS START. IT WILL HAVE ONE CLICK (AND I CAN CLOSE THE WINDOWS, TURN ON RADIO) BUT THE VAN WILL NOT START. *TR
