225/65 R 16 100 My van is available for inspection; the left front driver’s-side tire was repaired (under warranty) on 6 August 2022; a plug was installed to repair a ticking sound, which ended up being a nail imbedded in the tire. Once on the road again, I still heard an annoying sound( I realized the mechanic may not have cut the plug flush). I intended to go back to have them cut it off, but forgot due to my recent part-time work activities & starting College at night.(as well as getting Covid on 28 September 2022. I was scheduled to work at Davanni’s on 21 October 2022. I got into work around 12:33. I use an App on my phone to deliver pizza’ & hoagies. I took a large order around 15:30. I was nervous driving, because my van(previously reported on this site)was having the electrical issues, even when I put my vehicle in park. I messaged my customer when I was 2-3 minutes away(I was extra cautious because my signals wouldn’t show drivers behind me that I was turning, so my 1st text would usually be at a semi-fore, then when I park in driveway, I send a text I am there. The customer had a pretty high incline when I parked. After sending the text I proceeded to exit my vehicle. (my phone was in my right hand). I stepped out with my left foot, then the right; I was fully standing when all of a sudden I felt my door pushing on my left side, I braced my left arm, looked down & noticed the van was rolling back. I felt the tire start to hit my toe then instantly brought my right foot up to step on the brake. In doing so I had my right buttocks wedged against my seat base. I slammed my elbow & ribs onto the threshold of the door and my right arm/pit against the seat. I looked up by the steering wheel where the shift stick is, & realized it was down. I reached up with my left arm & pushed up 2- notches, couldn’t reach park. I texted the person that I need help. He came out swiftly, put it in park & help me arise from my wedged position. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN EQUIPPED WITH UNIROYAL TIRES, SIZE: 225/65R16 (NA). WHILE DRIVING, THE TIRE SENSOR WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND, UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS FLAT. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FLAT TIRE WITH THE SPARE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO OURISMAN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (12430 AUTO DR, CLARKSVILLE, MD 21029 (301) 596-9990) WHERE THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A PRESSURE MONITOR SYSTEM AND A TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR FAILURE IN THE REAR. ALSO, THE NUT VALVE STINT WAS CORRODED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED FIVE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,725.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE TIRE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WARNING INDICATOR BLINKED FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 SECONDS AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS CALLED, BUT COULD NOT REPAIR THE TIRE AT THAT TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE A NEW TIRE AND TIRE VALVE WERE PLACED ON THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TPMS WHEEL VALVE SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM INDICATED THAT THE TIRE AIR PRESSURE WAS LOW. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE DEFLATED DUE TO A FAULTY METAL VALVE STEM THAT HAD CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE VALVE STEM TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. LATER, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE ADDITIONAL THREE METAL VALVE STEMS WERE ALSO CRACKED AND AIR WAS LEAKING FROM EACH TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

WHILE DRIVING THE TPMS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. AT OUR EARLIEST CONVENIENCE WE STOPPED AT A SERVICE STATION TO CHECK THE TIRES. I CHECKED AND/OR ADDED AIR TO 3 OF THE TIRES, WHEN I WENT TO REMOVE THE VALVE STEM CAP ON THE 4TH TIRE, THE END OF THE VALVE STEM BROKE OFF IN MY HAND. THANKFULLY THE BREAK OCCURRED ON THE OUTER PORTION OF THE STEM SO THE NEEDLE VALVE IS STILL IN PLACE AND THE TIRE STILL HOLDS AIR. HOWEVER I'M NO LONGER ABLE TO CHECK OR ADD AIR TO THIS TIRE. THE METAL ON THE VALVE STEM APPEARED TO BE VERY CORRODED. KEEP IN MIND THIS IS ON A VAN THAT IS PARKED IN A GARAGE MOST OF THE TIME AND NOT EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS AS MUCH AS MOST OTHER VEHICLES. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT ALL FOUR VALVE STEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. WHILE OPERATING OUR 2009 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SE AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE'S VALVE STEM ON THE TIRE FAILED (OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 45 SECONDS AFTER CONCLUDING HIGHWAY DRIVING). THE NUT HOLDING THE VALVE STEM ON APPEARS TO HAVE BROKEN CAUSING THE SENSOR TO FALL INTO THE TIRE AND RESULTED IN THE TIRE DEFLATING IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS THE THIRD SENSOR FAILURE ON THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY THE FIRST TWO OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY - AIRING UP TIRES CAUSED THE STEMS TO BREAK IN HALF. A CALL TO THE GENERAL DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE STATED THAT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE OCCURRING. A CALL TO MY DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY REPLACE THE TPMS SENSORS "EVERYDAY" DUE TO FAILURES AND THEN PROCEEDED TO QUOTE ME $200+ FOR A SENSOR REPLACEMENT WHICH INCLUDED "PROGRAMMING" THE SENSOR WHICH ISN'T EVEN NECESSARY ON THIS VEHICLE. DODGE DEALERSHIP HAD STATED THAT SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES IN THEIR LINEUP HAVE SWITCHED OVER TO TPMS SENSORS USING RUBBER VALVE STEMS. THESE ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR OUR YEAR GRAND CARAVAN. *TR

TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON. WHILE FILLING TIRE WITH AIR, THE STEM OF TIRE SNAPPED IN HALF, LETTING ALL THE AIR OUT OF THE TIRE. HAD TO HAVE A NEW SENSOR INSTALLED ($130+). FOUR MONTHS LATER, LOW PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON, TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE TO FIND THAT ANOTHER STEM WAS CRACKED. HAD THAT REPLACED FOR ANOTHER $130. WHILE HAVING TIRES ROTATED, THEY FOUND ANOTHER STEM LEAKING. DEALER REPLACED IT FOR FREE AND TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE THE STEMS ARE ALUMINUM AND THE STEMS ARE TREADED ON THE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE, THEY DO NOT HOLD UP TO ROAD SALTS AND WEATHER. DODGE DID CORRECT THIS PROBLEM IN THE 2011 MODEL VEHICLE BUT HAS NOT RECALLED THE 2009 TIRE STEMS/SENSORS. STILL HAVE THE CAR AND ALL FOUR SENSORS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED. HORRIBLE ENGINEERING AND DODGE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO REPLACE THEM ALL. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN BECAUSE THEY DO NOT THINK ANYONE WILL BE KILLED BY THEIR POOR DESIGN. I HAD THE VALVE STEM REPLACED AT A COST OF $140.00. ON AUGUST 20, 2013 THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AGAIN. I TOOK IT BACK TO GOOD YEAR. THEY TOLD ME THE TWO VALVE STEMS ON THE PASSENGER WHEELS, FRONT/BACK WERE VERY CORRODED. THEY DID MANAGE TO FILL BOTH TIRES FOR ME. THE LIGHT WENT OFF. TWO DAYS LATER, THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I WENT TO FILL THE TIRES AND THE ONE VALVE STEM BROKE OFF, ANOTHER FLAT TIRE! PUT ON THE SPARE, DROVE HOME, CALLED AROUND AND HAD TO TAKE IT IN TO BE FIXED AGAIN. $700 LATER, 4 NEW TIRES, ANOTHER TPMS REPLACED, AND AN ALIGNMENT. TWO VALVE STEM ARE STILL IFFY, BUT THEY SAID THEY SEALED OKAY........ I AM NERVOUS ABOUT ALLOWING MY WIFE AND THREE SMALL CHILDREN TO RIDE IN THIS CAR WITH TWO MORE CORRODED VALVE STEMS. AT LUNCH TRIED TO FILL WITH AIR BUT COULD NOT BECAUSE THE WAS VALVE GOING INTO THE TIRE. TOOK TO TIRE REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY INFORMED ME THAT TIRE SENSOR CAP WAS MISSING. THEY COULD NOT TELL ME WHY OR HOW THAT WOULD HAPPEN. THEY HAD TO REPLACE ENTIRE SENSOR AT A COST OF $130. THEN 3 DAYS LATER TIRE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THIS TIME FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WAS LOW. LOOKED AT TIRE SENSOR CAP AND NOTICE IT WAS CRACKED, CORRODED AND PIECE MISSING FROM CAP. LOOKED AT OTHER TWO CAPS AND THEY ARE BOTH CRACKED AND CORRODED. SO THAT EXPLAINS WHY FIRST CAP WAS MISSING - IT CORRODED AND FELL OFF. SO NOW REMAINING 3 SENSORS NEED TO BE REPLACED. TOOK TO DEALER BUT WAS TOLD NOT COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. SEEMS TO ME IF ALL 4 SENSOR CAPS ARE CRACKED, CORRODED AND FALLING OFF THERE IS A DEFECT AND A RECALL SHOULD BE DONE. VAN HAD ABOUT 38,000 ON IT. THIS SUNDAY PULLED BACK INTO DRIVE AND IN MATTER OF SECONDS REAR RIGHT WENT FLAT. FOUND SAME PROBLEM. WENT OVER TO CHECK LEFT REAR AND FOUND CRACK IN STEM WITHIN 1/32" BELOW CAP, I CALLED FOR NEW STEMS DEALER IS OUT OF STOCK SO THE VAN MUST SIT. I WILL HAVE TO PUT RUBBER STEMS IN AND DEAL WITH THE LIGHT SO I CAN USE THE VAN. NOW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF MY WIFE OR MYSELF WITH KIDS AND GRANDKIDS ARE ON A TRIP BUSY ROADS,LOTS OF TRAFFIC AND THIS WOULD HAPPEN. WHEN THESE BLOW TIRES ARE FLAT IN SECONDS. DRIVER'S FRONT TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR NUT CORRODED AND BROKE OFF CAUSING AN IMMEDIATE FLAT TIRE. THE ALMOST NEW TIRE (LESS THAN 25,000KM) WAS ALSO DESTROYED IN THE PROCESS OF BRING THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP. HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW SENSOR AS WELL AS A NEW TIRE. $361.35 LATER OUT OF MY POCKET FOR A DEFECT THAT I AM TOLD IS NOT RESTRICTED TO DODGE VEHICLES BUT WITH ALL TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS IN GENERAL. 2009 GRAND CARAVAN. WAS WASHING THE WHEELS, AROUND THE VALVE STEM AREA, WHEN THE VALVE SNAPPED OFF AT THE BASE OF THE VALVE CAP, RELEASING ALL THE AIR IN THE TIRE WITHIN 10 SECONDS. HAD THIS BEEN A PART FAILURE DURING A HIGH SPEED DRIVE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. THERE SHOULD BE A SAFETY ALERT REGARDING THIS DEFECT AND AN IMMEDIATE RECALL. I REFUSED TO PAY A $150.00 TIRE REPAIR , SO I OPTED OUT WITH REMOVING THE EXISTING PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM, AND HAD A GOOD OLD RUBBER VALVE STEM PUT IN, AND THE TIRE REBALANCED. IF A RECALL IS NOT IMPLEMENTED SOON, I PLAN ON HAVING ALL THE VALVE STEMS REPLACED, AND WITH ALL THE OTHER PROBLEMS I'VE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE, I WOULD NEVER AGAIN BY A DODGE. *TR

BOUGHT VEHICLE ON 12-14-2010(USED FROM A CAR DEALER) VEHICLE WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE BEEN INSPECTED(72 POINT CHECK) THIS VAN HAD 34,916 MILES ON IT. DEALER DID RECALLS AND WARRANTY WORK. WE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE TIRE "LIGHT" GOING ON & OFF. WAS ADVISED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE MONITOR, THAT THE TIRES JUST NEEDED A LITTLE AIR FOR THE HIGHER ALTITUDE. THEY OVER FILLED TIRES. TIRE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THIS TIME WE WERE ADVISE, BY A TIRE DEALER, THAT THE VALVES(MONITORS) WERE CRACKED & LEAKING AIR. ALSO THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON UNTIL WE GOT TO THE DEALER, HE SAID TO TURN OFF THE MOTOR AND RESTART THE ENGINE. THIS TIME IT WENT OFF. AFTER READING THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT ENGINE LIGHTS, WE ARE SCARED THAT THE DEALERS ARE AGAIN LYING TO US. WE DO NOT WANT TO END UP WITH THE VEHICLE JUST STOPPING ON US ON THE HIGHWAY, INFRONT OF AN 18 WHEELER! THIS ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED TO OTHERS AND THEIR TRANSMISSION JUST QUIT. WE BELIEVE THAT THESE DEALERS, ARE IN DENIAL. WHY DID THE DEALER TELL MY HUSBAND JUST TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT USING A CODE TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS? WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN 2 TIMES ABOUT THE 'LOW TIRE" LIGHT & EACH TIME THEY JUST BLEW IT OFF AS NEEDING AIR! IT WAS AN INDEPENDENT TIRE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY EXAMINED THE TIRE TO FIND THE CRACKED VALVE-HE DID NOT HAVE ANY THING TO GAIN, AS THE VALVE STEM WAS RETURNED AGAIN TO THE DEALER. WHEN WE LOOKED BACK AT THE REPAIR TICKETS (2) WE NOTICED THAT OUR REPORTING OF THE TIRE LIGHT BEING ON WAS NOT EVEN ON EITHER OF THE REPAIR TICKETS! BTW: OUR 1999 DODGE RAM 1500 TRUCK HAS THE IRREGULAR & ACCELERATED IDLE AS WELL AS THE "OUT OF NO WHERE" ACCELERATION, WHICH WE FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET.
