The contact owned a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed however, the brakes failed to operate causing the vehicle to rear-end another vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The passenger-side airbag deployed upon impact; however, the driver’s side air bag failed to deploy causing the contact to impact the steering wheel. The contact was taken from the scene to a hospital and was treated for bruising to both knees and head. No other injuries were reported from the accident. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was deemed a total loss. A VIN search showed there were two open recalls on the vehicle; NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V234000 (Electrical System) and 20V396000 (Air Bags, Steering). The dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately 220,000.

EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE RECALLED INCLUDING THE SENSORS. 2018,2019,2020 I HAD TO REPLACE BRAKES, CALIPERS, ROTORS, AND HUB ASSEMBLY MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS IS NOT NORMAL TO KEEP REPLACES THESE PARTS. MANY PEOPLE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AND I SURE MANY OTHERS WILL. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS.
FEBRUARY MY HUSBAND AND I FINANCED THIS CAR AND WITHIN LESS THAN ONE MONTH WE BEEN EXPERIENCING ONE ISSUE AFTER ANOTHER. FIRST, THE HEATER HOSE HAD A HOLE IN IT THEN AFTER THAT WAS THE RADIATOR THEN AFTER WE REPLACED THOSE TWO NOW WE HAVE A ISSUE WITH THE EXHAUST MODIFIER AS WELL A ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES TODAY THE TIRES LOCKED UP ON US. COULD BE RELATED TO THE ISSUES THATS BEEN REPORTED ON THE NEWER DODGE GRAND CARAVANS.

THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE ALL HAPPENING WITHIN SEVERAL MONTHS. WE FIRST HAD ISSUES WITH THE TIRE TREAD, THEN A HOLE IN THE WATER HOSE AND RADIATOR, A HOLE IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THEN IT WAS BROKEN PIECES IN THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. NOW THE CURRENT ISSUE IS EITHER THE BRAKES SEIZED UP OR THE THE CALIBER IS STUCK AND WE ARE CURRENTLY UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO A LOCAL AUTOZONE FOR A COMPUTER CHECK. WHILE DRIVING AT 35-40MPH ON A RURAL ZONE THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY FELT 'LOCKED' AND WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER. AT THE SAME TIME THE BRAKES WERE HARD TO PRESS AND THE TRACTION CONTROL DASH LIGHT CAME ON. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND FRIGHTENED HER VERY MUCH. THE ROAD HAS A SLIGHT CURVE IN IT AND HAS ONCOMING TRAFFIC IN THE OPPOSITE LANE. SHE HAD TO FORCIBLY STEER THE VAN AS BEST SHE COULD AGAINST THE SIDEWALK CURB TO HELP SLOW DOWN THE VAN. IF SHE HAD MADE IT TO THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED I DON'T THINK THE RESULTS WOULD BE THE SAME AS FAR AS HER SAFETY. I LOOKED UP THE SYMPTOMS AND FOUND IT TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT EVEN A RECALL MIGHT BE IN PLACE FOR THIS ISSUE. PLEASE FORWARD ME ANY INFO THAT WILL HELP ME CORRECT THIS PROBLEM.

THIS DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A RANDOM ISSUE BUT RATHER A DESIGN FLAW THAT THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT BE LIABLE FOR .

WE HAVE A 2010 DODGE CARAVAN THAT WAS BUILT IN JUNE OF 2010. IT HAS 39,711 MILES ON IT AND THREE TIMES THIS WEEK, 02/03&04/2016, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF INADVERTENTLY WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IT AT SPEEDS UP TO 40 MPH. THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES DID NOT WORK AND SHE LET IT COAST TOP A STOP, WHILE BREAKING, PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS WAS ON A STATE ROUTE SHE PUT IT IN PARK AND THE CAR STARTED ALL THREE TIMES. TWO OF THESE INCIDENTS HAPPENED WHILE OUR 2 MIDDLE SCHOOL CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR. I CALLED THE CHRYSLER COMPLAINT BUREAU AND THEY CHECKED MY VIN NUMBER AND TOLD ME MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THEIR RECENT RECALL INVOLVING THEIR WIN IGNITION KEY FOB PROBLEMS EVEN THOUGH OUR VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ENGINE SHUT DOWN AS IN THEIR RECALL. I HAD THE CAR CHECKED WITH A COMPUTER AND THERE ARE NO CODE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER I WENT TO TOLD ME OUR VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED 6 DAYS OUT OF THE JUNE 17TH. 2010 RECALL DATE. ON CHECKING MY STICKER ON THE DRIVER DOOR, IT ONLY GIVES 06/2010 AS A MFG DATE. IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY FOR MY WIFE AND CHILDREN IT WILL BE COSTING ME JUST OVER $600.00 TO HAVE THIS FIXED WITH THE SAME PARTS AS IN THE RECALL. ITS HARD FOR ME TO BELIEVE THAT BACK IN 2010 AS CHRYSLER WAS USING THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS THAT AFTER JUNE THEY QUIT USING THEM SINCE THE RECALL DIDN'T TAKE EFFECT TILL JUNE 26, 2014.

AUTHORIZED DEALER INDICATED THE BRAKES WERE FINE BUT THEY WILL CONTINUE TO VIBRATE/SHUDDER DUE TO "RUST" AND "PITTING". DEALER'S EXPERIENCE WHEN TEST DRIVING WAS WITH ONLY ONE PERSON, THE DRIVER, IN THE VEHICLE. WHEN THERE IS ONLY ONE DRIVER THE SHUDDERING IS TOLERABLE RATHER THAN FULLY LOADED WHERE CONTROL AND STABILITY BECOME A SIGNIFICANT CONCERN. DEALER INDICATED THAT IF I DID NOT LIKE THE SHUDDERING OF THE VEHICLE, THEY WOULD HAPPILY REPLACE THE BRAKE ROTORS AND THE PADS. IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY FOR MY FAMILY, I CHOSE TO REPLACE THE BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS. THIS IS THE EARLIEST I HAVE EVER REPLACED BRAKES ON A NEW VEHICLE. I WANTED TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION SINCE IT FALLS INTO PLACE WITH SIMILAR INFORMATION BEING SHARED TO HELP OTHERS IN EVALUATING WHETHER OR NOT TO PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE. WE HAD A VERY LOUD SCRAPING NOISE COMING FROM OUR REAR DRIVE SIDE TIRE. AT FIRST IT WAS WHEN YOU APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT IT QUICKLY BE CAME CONSTANT. WE CALLED THE DEALER AND THE QUICKEST WE COULD GET IN WAS 4/30/13. THE DEALER LET US KNOW THAT THE REAR CALIPER SADDLE CEASED AND THIS CAUSED SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE ROTOR AND THE PADS. THE CALIPER IS UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE DAMAGE IS CAUSES IS NOT. I DID A SEARCH AND IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THESE VANS BUT NO RECALL FROM DODGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED. THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED AS THE CD JOINT SEAL, WHICH FAILED AND CAUSED THE LUBRICANT TO COVER THE FRONT SUSPENSION. I BOUGHT MY GRAND CARAVAN BRAND NEW. IT IS A 2010, I BOUGHT IN 2011. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH IT. OVER THE WEEKEND, THE TRACTION CONTROL CAME ON (PERFECTLY DRY ROADS), THE CAR STALLED, I LOST POWER STEERING, AND IT WOULDN'T MOVE UNTIL I STOPPED, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND RESTARTED IT. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES NOW. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE THIS MORNING. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD RUN DIAGNOSTICS. IF THE DIAGNOSTICS SHOWED IT TO BE A POWERTRAIN ISSUE, IT WOULD BE COVERED. IF NOT, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSTICS. AFTER THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS, THEY THINK IT IS THE PCM. HOWEVER, THEY WON'T FIX IT BECAUSE THEY CAN'T PROVE IT IS NOTHING ELSE OR DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY ALSO STILL CHARGED ME FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS BECAUSE THEY CAN'T SAY FOR 100% IT IS THE PCM. MONTHS AGO, DODGE HAD PUT AN ADDITIONAL WARRANTY ON THE FRONT BRAKES FOR THIS VERY REASON (PRE-MATURE CORROSION) INSTEAD OF DOING A RECALL. BUT THE BACK BRAKES WERE NOT COVERED. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE WITH CORRODED REAR BRAKES SEIZING AT LOW MILEAGE. PLEASE LOOK IT IN THIS. REAR PASSENGER WHEEL GETS EXTREMELY HOT WHILE DRIVING. IT APPEARS THAT THE CALIPER MAY BE LOCKING UP. THE REAR WHEEL ON THE DRIVER SIDE ALSO MAKES A HIGH PITCHED WHINE, WHICH IS INTERMITTENT AND USUALLY GOES AWAY BY TAPPING THE BRAKE PEDAL. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID WE NEEDED A REAR BRAKE JOB. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THIS IS DUE TO DEFECTIVE CALIPERS WHICH ARE NOT RELEASING THE PADS FROM THE ROTORS. THE REAR BRAKES ON EVERY CAR I HAVE OWNED ALWAYS LAST SIGNIFICANTLY LONGER THAN THE FRONT. THE FACT THAT THE REAR PADS ARE WORN EXCESSIVELY WHILE FRONT ARE NOT INDICATES A DEFECT IN THE REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLY. THE IGNITION WAS REPAIRED AS PART OF A RECALL. HOWEVER, AFTER STARTING THE CAR, THE KEY DOES NOT RETURN TO THE "ON" POSITION. THIS ALLOWS THE CAR TO RUN AND BE DRIVEN, HOWEVER NONE OF MY LIGHTS OR DIRECTIONALS WORK. I CAN WIGGLE THE KEY TO GET IT INTO THE CORRECT POSITION, BUT SOMETIMES IT IS NOT OBVIOUS THAT THE KEY IS IN THE WRONG POSITION. THIS RESULTS IN ME DRIVING WITHOUT HEADLIGHTS IN THE RAIN AND THINKING THAT I AM SIGNALING PROPERLY IN TURNS WHEN IN FACT EVERYTHING IS OFF. *JS
