While driving, the vehicle will periodically shut down/lose all power. This appears to occur when a slight bump in the road occurs. The loss of power to the vehicle is obviously a significant safety issue. We have been able to restart it when switching to neutral and turning the key; however, this obviously isn't a safe solution while traveling down the highway with no power to the vehicle. This has occurred multiple times at varying speeds (30-70 mph) over the last few years - I am reporting it now as I was assuming/anticipating there would be a recall on this safety issue.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH on the highway, the vehicle inadvertently shut off. The contact stated that the steering wheel became inoperable. The contact was able to pull over safely and restated the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure progressed over time and the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were flashing on and off. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

Smoke comes out from the corner of the hood by the antenna and fumes come from the vents it makes my eyes burn and my throat sore. I'm afraid it might catch on fire. I have had the oil changed the power steering fluid changed I had the radiator changed. I don't know where it's coming from but I do know it is not safe.
After talking to others and researching and reading reports this seems to be another ghost problem: Driving around town this issue doesn't usually occur but, on a long drive and coming to a stop or near stop such as a traffic light and/or in traffic my van starts to die. Depending on how long I am going to be stopped or slowed down to a crawl I either have to keep one foot on the brake while accelerating or switch to neutral. When switched to neutral I have to keep a foot on the accelerator while switching back into drive. Sometimes turning the ignition off and back on helps, usually not. The danger is the risk of being rear ended or stalling when pulling into traffic.
On my Grand Caravan the engine randomly dies when my headlights are on bright. I haven't been able to find the problem. I have read where others are having the same problem but not sure they have associated the problem to the high beam lights. Last year when the dealership supposedly did the T33 recall it stopped doing it for two months then started happening again. It only happens with my high beams. The dangers are that, unable to use my high beams, I may not see wildlife running out into the road on dark highways until it is too late. Also, if this happens in traffic, especially in turns or curves, there is temporary loss in propulsion, power steering, power brakes, etc. I believe this to be a widespread problem that most haven't associated with the headlights. When it happens all of the dash lights come on as if the ignition was just turned on. I guess one more danger is that a driver, unaware of what is happening, may try accelerating when the engine has died which could cause sudden acceleration when the engine power restores.
Van stalls while driving it has happened serval times and getting worse. I have had it to mechanic they can not figure out what's wrong. Two of these incidents of this van stalling while driving almost caused me to get hit. Am scared now to even drive it I have my grandbabies with me quit a bit and refuse to take chances with them. Something needs to be done. Dodge needs to FIX this issue.

Engine stalls soon after I start driving. Lights are still on on the dashboard. I put the car in Park, turn the key to the off position, and turn the key to ignition. Engine starts without issue. This problem happens irregularly. Sometimes happens after a few months, sometimes after a few weeks.
The car SHUTS OFF while DRIVING NO MATTER THE SPEED!!! The vehicle also pops out of gear when it shuts off. You have to use the emergency release button to change the gear to put it in park to try to start it again, which usually takes a little while to get it started. The safety hazard could be FATAL to the driver and whomever may rear-end the vehicle due it shutting off and loosing power steering and the brakes. This vehicle is currently at the dealership for the second time. They say that they cannot find the problem. I looked online for fixes and found HUNDREDS of complaints of the same issue for this same vehicle with no fix due to everyone being told they cannot find the problem. This could be FATAL!
Engine cooling system has failed multiple times causing the engine to overheat, it has been reproduced by an independent service provider and is available for inspection upon request. To attempt to remedy the issue, the following have been replaced or inspected: thermostat, thermostat housing, radiator, hoses, water pump, oil filter adaptor/coolant bypass, fan, wiring and other associated electrical components. There were no warning lamps or other symptoms of the problem prior to the system failure. Vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. I have attempted contacting Chrysler several times and have been given the run-around regarding a safety recall that matches the symptoms, year, make, and model of my vehicle and have been told that my vehicle's VIN is not part of the recall and that there is no way to get it evaluated and added to the recall. I am unable to upload the repair invoices I have amassed so far with this issue at this time, but can furnish them at a later date if required.

When driving the car will randomly shut off losing power. When trying to start it randomly it will turn on then shut back off. When it turns off as I’m driving it’s always under 50MPH but I lose steering. Very scary.
I guess started with noticing oil being used at a faster pace then normal then a decent tick began along with AbS light which prevented cruise control from working. At this point We seemed Professional advice from a licensed Mechanic who then preformed a small job of dropping transmission pan to clean metal shavings out! And replacing tires and brake pads assured us routers were fine. He was concerned with the fact that the abs light continued to be on so we the paid to get wiring for abs redone (not sure what was called). After this the cruise control worked abs went off but we noticed the brake pads went quick! Then the insane knock out of nowhere began loud metal on metal had harmonic balancer pulley replaced didn’t do it any good. The. Was told cracked fly wheel was most likely the problem I continued to drive for about a month when the brake fluid light came on. I added fluid but every 3-4 days it came on again and of course brake pads again but this time the extremely loud knock went away and all was left was a quiet tick. That lasted couple months the out of no where wiring started shorting in dash and radio display. This lead to battery issues then out of no where motor is stuck in first gear and will not shift up but will shift between drive neutral and reverse. Idles extremely rough when in drive lights do not dim I had alternator checked. Now my family of six is with out a vehicle thank you for hearing my concerns
My mechanic let me know of a commercial recall on my engine for the coolant system. However, the same engine in my car is not recalled for private sale engine. He said that my engine should have been recalled due to the information he downloaded and I should contact you because it needs to be replaced. But they did not recall the private vehicle engine, only the commercial.
The TIPM has a built in fuel relay switch which fails sometimes won't allow vehicle to start other times it and stall while driving twice in one trip my vehicle stalled on the highway loss of all power and engine completely shuts off with no power steering or brake assist very scary and wreckless was very fortunate to have avoid multiple accidents the is already a recall associated with this issue on the Dodge Durango and Jeep Cherokee but for some reason the Doge Grand Caravan was left off and it posses a huge safety risk for the people and families that are driving them!
2012 caravan staling/dyng while driving, at take off from stops n issues starting with it just dying time after time over n over. Getting codes for low input power for the system n tcm plus misfire codes n O2 sensor code. Had new battery n both battery n alternator check out perfect. All new fuses n relays n CB1. Changed Oil, filter n housing n spark plugs twice, all new O2 sensors n new ignition coils. New starter. Got new key fob n ignition key as well. Still same issues with no starts, difficult starts, stalling n dying while driving months later
The vehicle engine has stopped running while driving at highway speeds (50-70 mph). I have been able to roll off of the travel portion of the highway, but there was concern with vehicles behind me possibly hitting me. All electrical components continued to operate when this happens, including the radio, lights and AC/Heat blowers. It has happened in December 2020, May 2021 (2 times within about 1 hour), July 2021 (2 times within 2 days), December 2021, and April 2022. In all instances the vehicle has restarted in about 30 minutes. An independent repair shop investigated the issue in July 2021 and was not able to find any codes or to reproduce the engine stopping. Several years prior to these instances the vehicle began to "not start" immediately when the key-fob was turned; it starts after tuning the key on and off several times. The vehicle was inspected by a Chrysler dealer and the dealer could find no codes or reproduce the instance.
Engine shuts off while driving down expressway and randomly just shuts off. Very dangerous and someone is going to get killed. Dodge/Chrysler needs to do sometime about this.
The vehicle engine just stops while driving. Theis is the second time this has happened. The first time, the fule pump was replaced, plus the starter. That was only 6 months ago. This time it was towed home, (97) miles. It sat for over an hour waiting for the tow truck, tried to start several times, but would not start. after the tow truck dropped it off, in the driveway, it started right up! This is a vary unsafe problem with this vehicle. I have read many such posts as mine concerning this make and model of Van
While driving 55 MPH on the highway all the lights on the dashboard began flashing and the vehicle lost ALL power - No power steering, no brakes, no engine, nothing. Luckily I was going uphill in the mountains without any traffic and was able to eventually stop. Had there been a vehicle behind me, the results could have been fatal. The vehicle was towed to a nearby trusted shop. They are saying it needs a whole new engine. The problem is, even with a replacement engine, this could happen again with a new/rebuilt Chrysler/Dodge engine. Keep reading please. In researching, I found that this is a known issue with this and other Chrysler/Dodge models. There was a previous Class Action Suit in California settled regarding this issue that required all plaintiffs to file before December 2018. Sadly, I did not purchase the vehicle until 2019 and this issue did not occur until 2021. I'm hoping there is some way to make Chrysler/Dodge accept responsibility for this through a recall or another class action suit as I have read many complaints online regarding this issue. How many people have to die before somebody does something about this?
It refuses to start. Light comes on the dash for the throttle body and when fuses were tested it was found that the TIPMs power cuts out. Which led to a research and found online that a recall on that exact issue/part was for certain 2011-2012 models. I called my local dodge dealership and was told that my van didn't fall under that recall because it was VIN specific. If my 2012 Dodge grand caravan is having those issues, why is it not under the recall. This car is my main transportation for myself and my family. I have 5 school aged kids that rely on this vehicle for transportation everyday. I NEED this to be taken care of as soon as possible, please.
The vehicle was inspected and seemed fined when purchased. However my engine shut down on the interstate almost causing me wreck with my children. The vehicle has been diagnosed and the problem was the engine, however I only had it for two weeks and I can’t afford $700 plus dollars and even though I have a warranty on the engine, the warranty company says it’s not covered. I seen that the temperature hand had moved from the middle to hot, but then it moved all the way to cool.
My wife and I have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan, my wife drives the car on a daily basis school runs, etc with our 4 kids. While driving the kids to school and stopped at a red light the vehicle suddenly with no warning lost all power and shutdown. My wife said she was able to restart it again right away, then just before she got home the car suddenly and again no warning shut down everything no power whatsoever she was unable to remove the key from the ignition. After attaching a battery pack we were able to get it restarted and drive home Thankfully no one was behind her at the time as it would most definetly have resulted in a crash. Since then this has occured several more times sometimes it will be a day or couple days but it will always just die with no warning, My wife refuses to drive the car now as both she and I are afraid for the kids and her safety. I have checked and fixed various items including a new battery,alternator and ASD relay all of which did not fix the issue. I see dodge has issued recalls for the ignition switch on previous years. I believe Dodge needs to look at the 2012 and fix whatever this issue is as I have saw numerous people experiencing the same issue. I am a father supporting my wife and 4 kids and cannot afford a bottomless pit of maybe its this/that. Dodge needs to step up it could be the difference of saving someones life.
Engine shut off while driving down highway. No warning alarms. I managed to pull off highway. Vehicle started back up with no problems. Wife is now afraid to drive it.

MY VAN CUT OFF IN THE DRIVEWAY, THANKFULLY I WAS PARKED AND WILL NOT TURN OVER OR CRANK BACK UP. WE HAD JUST GOTTEN HOME,, WE COULD HAVE BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE!!! THERE IS A RED LIGHT BLINKING LIGHT UNDER THE NEUTRAL. I AM READING HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM AND THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED. MY VAN IS A HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE VAN FOR MY DAUGHTER AND THANKFULLY WE WERE NOT DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I REPLACED ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY APPARENTLY AFTER GOING TO MULTIPLE MECHANICS THAT DIDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM WITH DIAGNOSTICS I FOUND OUT IT WAS NEITHER IT WAS A FAULTY TIPM. 6-8 MONTHS LATER STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH THE CAR STALLING OUT AND HAVING AN ISSUE TURNING BACK ON. I HAVE STALLED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS ON THE FREEWAY I HAVE CONTACTED DODGE AND THE RECALL IS NOT FOR MY YEAR OF VEHICLE. PARTS FOR THIS ARE EXPENSIVE ALONG WITH LABOR. DODGE NEEDS TO RECALL THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED TO ME I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE FREEWAY CAR BEHIND ME WAS CLOSE AND MY VAN STALLED COULD OF GOT HURT OR KILLED AND SO COULD THE OTHER DRIVER. TOOK MY 2012 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN TO THE TEMPE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE RECALLS FIXED. SOON AFTER THEY DID THE RECALLS MY CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE OFF THE LOT THEY TOLD ME THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS BAD AND IT WOULD COST $806 TO FIX IT. SO I TOLD THEM LETS DO IT. I GET A CALL AN THE SAID ITS THE TIPM ! $1400 DOLLARS LATER MY CAR IS STILL RUNNING PRETTY ROUGH AND NOT GETTING POWER AND COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. SO I CALL THE DEALER AND THEY TOW IT IN TO TELL ME IT IS MY FUEL PUMP. SO $800 THEY SAID ITS FIXED AND I SHOULD HAVE NOTHING GOING WRONG. 3 DAYS LATER MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND A CODE P0456 EVAC LEAK! SO I CALL THE DEALER AND LET THEM KNOW . I THEN PURCHASED A GAS CAP JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. LIGHT STAYED ON. SO I GET THE VAN TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD MY VAN ALLDAY TO SAY ITS MY GAS CAP . LET ME REMIND YOU I JUST PURCHASED ONE. SO THEY GET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OFF AND NOW EVERYTIME I FILL THE TANK UP GAS FUMES ARE SOO STRONG IN THE VEHICLE AND IS RUNNING VERY POORLY. HONESTLY IM SCARED TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT . I JUST WANT MY VAN SAFE I HAVE KIDS . ITS MY ONLY VEHICLE.

I HAVE A 2012 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN THE SLIDING DOOR HAS BEEN MAKING A BUZZING SOUND EVERY TIME YOU UNLOCK AND LOCK THE DOORS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE 2016 AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WOULD BE $500 TO FIX IT. I AM NOW HAVING ISSUES WITH TRUNK OPENING AND CLOSING ON IT'S OWN; EVEN WHEN IT IS LOCKED. NOT SAFE AT ALL AND ALREADY GOT STORMED INSIDE OF MY VAN; CAUSE I DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS OPENED. THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE FEE TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND THEN PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. I HAD A NEW TRANSMISSION PUT IN AT 74,330 MILES AFTER THEY TOLD ME WHEN I LEFT THE FIRST TIME; THAT IT WAS A COMPUTER RESET THAT NEEDED DONE. THEN, THEY HAD MY VAN FOR 2 WEEKS TRYING TO GET THE TRANSMISSION BUILT. AND MY TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING AGAIN. AT 139,466 MILES I HAD ALL OF MY TRANSMISSIONS LINES LEAKING AND HAD REPLACE ALL OF THEM FOR ANOTHER $500; CAUSE THERE WAS NO WARRANTY FROM THEM DOING MY SECOND TRANSMISSION. MY CD PLAYER EATS MY CD'S NOW AND MY AC QUIT WORKING. ALL IN ALL I DO LOVE MY VAN, BUT I AM GETTING VERY ANGRY AT ALL THE ISSUES; THAT SHOULD COVERED UNDER A RECALL AND THEY ARE NOT COVERED. IF ANYONE COULD PLEASE GIVE ME SOME IN SITE ON THESE ISSUES; I WOULD APPRECIATE IT. I AM NOT IN THE POSITION TO PURCHASE ANOTHER CAR AT THIS TIME WITH JOBS NOT VERY SECURE. MY CAR STOPPED RUNNING. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE MECHANICS. THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REBUILT DUE TO ENGINE BLOCK DEBRIS. AFTER JUST HAVING CROSSED A BRIDGE SUDDENLY THE ENGINE DIED AND LOST POWER TO ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. AGAIN, IT STARTED BACK UP JUST FINE AND RAN WELL. IT HAS BECOME A MORE FREQUENT EVENT TO INCLUDE BRIEFLY RUNNING THEN SHUTTING DOWN. WTHIN THE LAST WEEK, THE BATTERY HAS DRAINED WITHOUT CASUE- REQUIREING CHARGING. AS OF TODAY, THE FAILURE TO START ISSUE PERSISTS REQUIREING MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. THIS HAPPENS ON A COLD START AS WELL AS WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN RUNNING/IS WARMED UP. DDIAGNOSTICS LEAD TO A FAILURE OF THE FUEL PUMP RELAY IN THE TIPM. THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUE FOR THIS ENGINE/TIPM HOWEVER THE CARAVAN HAS NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AS THE DRUANGO AND JEEP VEHICLES HAVE BEEN. THE FAILURE OF THIS TIPM HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED TO INCLUDE SUDDEN ENGINE SHUTDOWN WHILE IN OPERATION REPRESENTING A SIGNIFICANT DANGER TO THE PUBLIC. BASED ON REVIEWS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS, AN ORDINARY REASONABLE PRUDENT PERSON WOULD BELIEVE THAT THIS TIPM FAILURE IS A IMINENT THREAT TO SAFETY. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO EXPAND THE RECALL AND REPAIR TO ALL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE SUSPECT TIPM. CURRENTLY, A NON RECALLED VEHICLE WOULD HAVE THE TIPM MODULE REPLCED AT A SIGNIFICANT COST TO THE OWNER OR, A NON DEALERSHIP INSTALLED "RECALL" REPAIR (NEW RELAY) INSTALLED THAT WOULD NEGATE ANY FURTHER/FUTURE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MANUFACTURER. AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTERS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE THE OPTION OF PAYING FOR THE "RECALL" REPAIR WHEN SERVICING A VEHICLE NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. WE WILL BE DRIVING ALONG NORMALLY THEN THE POWER AND ENGINE WILL ALL CUT OUT THIS HAS HAPPENED IN MULTIPLE ENVIRONMENTS FROM CROSSING RAILWAY TRACKS TO RUNNING DOWN A SMOOTH ROAD, THANKFULLY THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED YET ON THE HIGHWAY, WE ARE LEFT COASTING WITH NO POWER STEERING OR ANYTHING UNTIL WE CAN SAFELY STOP PUT THE VAN IN PARK AND RESTART THE ENGINE. THE VAN RESTARTS EVERY TIME STRAIGHT AWAY WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE OTHER DAY BEFORE WE TOOK THE VAN TO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE, THE CONSOLE STAYED WITH NO POWER BUT I WAS ABLE TO START THE ENGINE, THE FAN AND RADIO ALSO WORKED AT THIS POINT, AFTER DRIVING 5 TO 10 METERS THE DASH CONSOLE CAME UP WITH ALL THE GAUGES WORKING AGAIN. IT HAS NOW BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE NOW AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE OR KNOW OF A CAUSE. AFTER REVIEWING FORUMS IT SEEMS THAT OTHER VAN'S FROM VARIOUS YEARS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. SOMETIMES WHEN IT DOES IT, IT CATCHES ITSELF AT THE LAST SECOND AND THE ENGINE STAYS ON AND THE CONSOLE COMES BACK UP TO NORMAL THOUGH THIS IS MAYBE A 1 IN 5 OCCURRENCE. ONE OF THE TIMES IT HAPPENED WE PUT OUR FIXD IN THE CARE AND THE SCREENSHOT ATTACHED IS WHAT INFORMATION IT SHOWED, THE DEALERSHIP ONLY FOUND 1 OF THESE 4 FAULT CODES.

I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR WITHOUT POWER STEERING, AND APPLY BRAKES BUT THE SPEDOMETER, GAS, AND ENGINE ALL DIED AS I WAS DRIVING IT AS IF THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF. I AM DOUBTFUL THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS WERE WORKING AND AM LUCKY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME. FROM LOOKING IT UP I AM TOLD THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH DODGE JEEPS AND VANS RELATED TO THE TIPM MODULE. I INVESTIGATED ONLINE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. WHEN I CALLED DODGE THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT IT'S SOME KIND OF RELAY INSIDE THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT IS FAULTY SO HE ADMITTED IT HIMSELF I AM ASKING THAT YOU INVESTIGATE THIS BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS HURT OR KILLED. THIS IS MY FAMILY'S PRIMARY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION AND MY CHILDREN ARE ALWAYS IN THIS CAR. IT IS MY WORST NIGHTMARE TO LOSE MY FAMILY. A MONTH BEFORE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY AND IT WOULDN'T START, TOWED IT TO MECHANIC AND REPLACED ALTERNATOR. TILL NOW VEHICLE ALWAYS STALLS WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR COMING TO STOP. THIS VEHICLE ACTS LIKE IT HAVE BEEN TAKEN OVER BY SUPERNATURAL FORCES AND WHAT HAPPENED LAST SATURDAY WAS VERY SCARY TO MY FAMILY. I HAVE READ A LOT OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE ABOUT THIS VEHICLE AND IT IS VERY UPSETTING THAT THE MAKER HAVE NOT TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY IN ADDRESSING THIS SAFETY ISSUE. WE OWN A DODGE CARAVAN THAT HAS SOME MAJOR ENGINE PROBLEMS THAT SEEM TO BE COMMON FOR THE 2012-2013 V6 PENSTAR ENGINE. THE PROBLEM IS IN THE ENGINE HEAD AND VALVES. OUR VAN HAS COLLAPSED CAM LOBES DUE TO FAILING ROCKER ARMS. THE SYMPTOM THAT REVEALED THIS PROBLEM WAS A MISFIRE IN THE LEFT CYLINDER HEAD. THE SYMPTOMS ARE VERY SIMILAR TO THE PROBLEMS NOTED IN TSB NO. 09-002-14B INCLUDING A MISFIRE IN THE LEFT CYLINDER HEAD AND A LOUD TICKING NOISE COMING FROM THIS AREA. CHRYSLER HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY KNOWN AS X56 THAT ADDRESSES THE PROBLEM NOTED IN TSB NO. 09-002-14B. UNFORTUNATELY, THEIR WARRANTY ONLY COVERS THE HEAD REPLACEMENT (WHICH INCLUDES THE VALVES AND CAMS) IF THE HEAD IS CRACKED. WHILE INVESTIGATING MULTIPLE DODGE/CHRYSLER FORUMS I HAVE NOTED A LARGE NUMBER OF DODGE OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM THAT WE HAVE. IN FACT, I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE PROBLEM IS SO PERVASIVE THAT CHRYSLER HAS AN INTERNAL STAR CASE BULLETIN, S1309000016 RELATED TO THE ROCKER ARMS AND CAM LOBE PROBLEMS. THIS REPEATED ITSELF EVERY 15 MINUTES OR SO, UNTIL THE CAR CUT OFF. I REFASTENED THE BATTERY CONNECTORS, GOT THE CAR A JUMP, AND IT STARTED TO RUN. I PARKED THE CAR. LATER, I GOT IN AND STARTED IT WITH NO PROBLEM. THE NEXT DAY, I WENT TO START THE CAR AND IT WOULDNT START. I GOT A JUMP AND IT STARTED UP AGAIN. DRIVING INTO WORK, THE CAR CUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET. I HAD TO STEER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO GET TO SAFETY. THE WORST THING ABOUT IT ALL, IS THAT WHEN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILS, THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION, AND YOU CAN NOT SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL IF YOU NEED TO PUSH THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE READ MULTIPLE REVIEWS ABOUT THIS CAR'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, BUT IT IS A DANGER TO EVERYONE ON THE ROAD FOR A CAR TO CONSISTENTLY HAVE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY ONES THAT CAUSE IT TO CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, AND CONFIRMED THE WARRANTY FOR THE SECOND DRIVER CYLINDER HEAD, HOWEVER STATED THAT THE CAM SHAFT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND BY COINCIDENCE THEY BOTH FAILED AT THE SAME TIME, NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 112,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES DUE TO THE CONTACT EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTIES IN SHIFTING GEARS. THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED IN OCTOBER OF 2015 THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 133,000.

WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE BUT IS STATIONARY, EVERYTHING WILL TURN OFF. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM GOES DOWN AND THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF. AFTER A BRIEF MOMENT (APPROXIMATELY ONE TO TWO SECONDS), THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WILL COME BACK UP AND ALL ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS COME BACK ON, BUT THE CLOCK ON THE RADIO IS RESET TO 12:00. AT THIS POINT, WE CAN PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RESTART IT. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST SEVERAL WEEKS. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS 2017.07.07 AND IT DID IT TWICE WITHIN FIFTEEN MINUTES. WE DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE WHAT IS CAUSING THIS TO OCCUR, BUT IT SEEMS TO BE CONNECTED TO THE MAIN COMPUTER AND/OR THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM, AS THIS IS A COMPLETE SYSTEM SHUTDOWN.

THE COURTESY DODGE DEALER IN CONYERS, GA SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE COOLING SYSTEM, JUST SOME AIR THAT NEEDED TO BE REMOVED. A FEW DAYS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. THIS TIME THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A BAD HEAD GASKET ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. I HAD TO HAVE BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE HEAD GASKETS REPLACED AT AN INDEPENDENT AUTO REPAIR SHOP FOR $1500!. THE MECHANIC SAID HE SEES THIS TROUBLE ALL THE TIME WITH THE 3.6L PENTASTAR ENGINE I HAVE. HE SAID THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE ONLY 111,000 MILES ON THE ENGINE AND ITS ONLY FIVE YEARS OLD!

MY 2012 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SHOWED A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AT 67,000. I CHECKED THE CODE TO FND OUT P0303 IS A ENGINE MISFIRE. COULD BE IGNITION, PLUG, OR VALVE-CYLINDER COMPRESSION. I HAD THE ENGINE SERVICED AND THE LIGHT GOES OUT. THE NEXT DAY THE LIGHT COMES BACK ON. I RETURN THE VEHICLE FOR SERVICE TO INVESTIGATE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALS THERE IS A BAD COMPRESSION ON CYLINDER 03. I TAKE THE VEHICLE TO DODGE AND THEY COULD HAVE TOLD ME UP FRONT THAT THE RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM CHRYSLER. THEY TAKE MY CAR INTO SERVICE AND FIND A LEAK ON CYLINDER 04 ALSO. THEY GONG TO REPLACE THE LEFT CYLINDER HEAD BUT NOT THE RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD WITH THE SAME IDENTICAL PROBLEM. I AM LOOKING AT $3500.00 IF I CHOOSE TO REPLACE THE RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD. THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY SHOULD COVER THE DEFECT NO MATTER WHICH CYLINDER HEAD IS DEFECTED. MY WIFE LOVES THE CAR. SHE WANTS ANOTHER ONE. I TOLD HER THAT BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE WE WOULD BE RIGHT BACK HERE IN 4 YEARS WITH ANOTHER 3.6L V6 PENTASTAR ENGINE. I AM TORN. THE FUEL PUMP COULD BE HEARD RUNNING, EVEN WITH THE KEY OFF AND SHE SAID THE VAN ACTED LIKE IT WAS POSSESSED. BASED ON ONLINE INFORMATION, I REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR, WHICH WAS LISTED AS A TOP CULPRIT IN THE PROBLEM AND THAT SOLVED NOTHING. FURTHER RESEARCH INDICATED THE TIPM UNIT IS MOST LIKELY THE CAUSE AND WE FOUND THAT HER MAKE/MODEL OF VEHICLE IS PART OF A LAWSUIT FOR THIS PROBLEM.

I BELIEVE THIS IS BECAUSE OF THE FUEL PUMP OR FUEL PUMP RELAY. THE RELAYS CHATTER A LOT AND THE FUEL PUMP SOUNDS MUCH DIFFERENT NOW THAN IT DID WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. IT'S AS IF THE BATTERY IS BEING G DRAINED SLOWLY BECAUSE OF EITHER THE FUEL PUMP OR FUEL PUMP RELAY OR BOTH. I AM A CERTIFIED AIRCRAFT AND AUTO MECHANIC WITH ELECTRICAL TROUBLESHOOTING CAPABILITIES. I HAVE YET TO APPROACH THE DODGE DEALER WITH THIS BECAUSE IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED TWICE SO FAR WITH ME BEING AT WORK WHILE MY WIFE HAS HAD TO DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE BOTH TIMES SO FAR.

THE NEXT DAY I WAS DRIVING AND TAPPED THE KEY AND THE CAR SHUT DOWN AGAIN. SAME IGNITION SWITCH RECALLED BE GM? SOMEBODY BETTER FIGURE THIS OUT. THE DEALER DID NOT AGREE OR DISAGREE WITH MY BELIEF THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS THE CULPRIT. I AM AFRAID OF MY WIFE DRIVING THIS CAR. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN TO AN UNEXPERIENCED DRIVER NOT REALIZING THAT STEERING WILL BE DIFFICULT AND ONLY A COUPLE MORE PUMPS LEFT FOR THE POWER BRAKES, IT WOULD BE CATASTROPHIC. I AGAIN SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO NOT SLAM INTO THE BUILDING WALL JUST PAST THE SIDEWALK, THE VAN STOPPED ON TOP OF THE SIDEWALK AFTER HITTING THE CAR PARKED NEXT TO MY VAN (AS MY WHEELS WERE STILL TURNED FROM TURNING INTO THE PARKING SPACE. THE DAMAGE TO MY VAN AND THE CAR HIT BY MY VAN TOTALED OVER $10,000. IF A PEDESTRIAN HAD BEEN ON THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF MY VAN, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. BOTH TIMES THE ENGINE UNEXPECTEDLY SURGED, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, AND THE VAN WAS TRAVELING LESS THAN 2 TO 3 MILES PER HOUR. WHEN THE ACCELERATION SURGED THE VAN FORWARD, IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD AND FAST AS IF THE ACCELERATOR HAD BEEN POUNDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. I HAVE CHECKED WITH MY LOCAL DODGE DEALER, WHO STATES THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THIS VAN AND THEY HAVE HAD ABSOLUTELY NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT UNEXPECTED AND POWERFUL ACCELERATION ON THE DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE AS THERE ARE MANY OTHER REPORTS ON DODGE FORUM BOARDS STATING THIS EXACT UNEXPECTED AND DANGEROUS ACCELERATION. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY 2012 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. *TR

THEY SAY THEY WERE UNABLE DUPLICATE PROBLEM OF LOSING POWER - IT SEEMS THEY DID NOT DO TEST DRIVE AT ALL OBVIOUSLY FROM MILEAGE RECORD! I TOOK IT AGAIN WITH SAME COMPLAINT ON 11/12/2014 AND THEY SAY EVERYTHING LOOKS OKAY IT IS JUST ROAD CROWNING ON THE RIGHT LANE CAUSES IT. AGAIN THEY COULD NOT FIND OR DUPLICATE LOSS OF POWER AND SHIFTING. I AM TERRIBLY AFRAID OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS EVEN THOUGH MILEAGE IS LESS THAN 9000 MILES IN 3 YEARS. AROUND 37,000 MILES, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASED, LIGHT WOULD GO OFF AND ON PERIODICALLY. AFTER A SEVERAL WEEKS LIGHT STAYED ON AND STARTED BLINKING, AT THIS TIME VAN WAS VIBRATING AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WOULD CUT OFF. DEALERSHIP ENDED UP REPLACING ENGINE HEAD UNDER WARRANTY. A FEW MONTHS LATER LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, VAN DID NOT WANT TO ACCELERATE, DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH VAN. AT TIMES VAN DOES NOT WANT TO ACCELERATE AS IT SHOULD. AFTER A DELAY, IT WILL ACCELERATE, BUT NOT LIKE IT SHOULD. AROUND 60,000 MILES, ABS LIGHT AND TRACTION LIGHT HAVE COME ON AND CRUISE CONTROL WILL NO LONGER WORK. BACK HATCH DOOR OF VAN LOCKED WHILE OPEN AND WOULD NOT SHUT. THE DOOR HAD TO BE TIED DOWN FROM THE INSIDE IN ORDER TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP SAYS HINGES HAVE BEEN BENT. HINGES HAVE NO MARKS OF ANY KIND, AND THERE HAS BEEN NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THERE'S A WHOLE LOT GOING WRONG FOR A 2012 VEHICLE. *TR

WHEN IDLING, A RATTLING SOUND CAME FROM ENGINE, IT WAS CONTINUOUS WITH ANY SPEED. TOOK VEHICLE TO DODGE DEALER IN VENTURA, CA FOR REPAIR. THEY STATED IT WAS SOME TYPE OF PLATE IN ENGINE AND WAS ORDERING PART. WAS SUPPOSED TO GET MY VAN BACK WITHIN 3 DAYS BUT "PART WAS STILL BEING TRACKED" AFTER 3 DAYS OF CALLING FOR STATUS. AROUND JUNE 27TH WE FINALLY ASKED FOR A RENTAL. DODGE SAID THEY WOULD PAY FOR RENTAL AND I WOULD PAY FOR GAS. WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE RENTAL FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS. AROUND JULY 1ST WE WERE TOLD STILL WORKING ON VEHICLE, THEY WOULD CALL US IF IT WAS FINISHED THAT NIGHT, NO CALL BACK. IT IS NOW JULY 8TH AND THEY STILL HAVE OUR VEHICLE. OVER THE WEEKEND WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHRYSLER STATING OUR WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 10 YEARS, 100,000 MILES DUE TO ENGINE HEADS. WE WERE NEVER TOLD ANYTHING ABOUT ENGINE HEADS BY DODGE, AND STILL HAVE NOT HEARD BACK, STILL HAVE RENTAL. SHOULDN'T THIS BE A RECALL, INSTEAD OF JUST EXTENSION OF WARRANT? SOUNDS FISHY TO US... ENGINE RUNS VERY ROUGH, IDLES LOW ALMOST DIES AT INTERSECTIONS. DOES NOT HAVE POWER WHEN GAS PEDAL IS PUSHED DOWN, LOOSES POWER WHILE DRIVING AS WELL. THESE VANS HAVE SOMETHING MAJORLY WRONG WITH THE ENGINES AND TRANSMISSIONS. DODGE NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE AND RECALL/REPAIR THESE VANS. THEY ARE HAZARDOUS. I CANNOT WAIT TO BE RID OF MINE BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME AND MY FOUR CHILDREN. DOESN'T SOUND LIKE I'M THE ONLY ONE WITH THE PROBLEMS EITHER. DRIVING IN A SMALL TOWN, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THIS. I AM A MEDICAL COURIER AND WE HAVE 4, MAYBE 5, GRAND CARAVANS OPERATING OUT OF OUR FACILITY. TWO HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE HEADS REPLACED, BOTH WITH THE PENTASTAR V-6. I HAVE THIS ENGINE IN MINE AS WELL . I WAS TOLD BY THE DRIVERS OF THOSE TO WATCH FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON, AND LAST NIGHT IT DID. SO NOW, IT SEEMS I MAY BE NUMBER THREE. I WOULD CONSIDER MY DRIVING HABITS IN THE DODGE "EASY", PROBABLY 90% OF THE TIME I AM DRIVING RURAL TWO LANE HIGHWAYS AND INTERSTATE. THE WORKDAY IS ABOUT 380 MILES DRIVEN. I DRIVE VERY LITTLE STOP AND GO. I CAN GET 90K MILES OUT OF ORIGINAL BRAKES AND TIRES. I DO USE A VARIETY OF BRANDS OF GAS, BUT I WOULD CONSIDER THEM ALL "BRAND NAME". WE SERVICE OUR VEHICLES AT PROPER INTERVALS, ALL CARAVANS ARE ORDERED TO THE SAME SPEC, BUT THIS CAN DIFFER SLIGHTLY WITH MODEL YEAR. WHILE SEARCHING THE NET, I'VE READ WHERE CHRYSLER IS QUIETLY REPLACING HEADS WITH PROBLEMS. ONE OF MY FELLOW COURIERS RECENTLY HAD THE HEAD WORK DONE AT 80K+ ON HIS DODGE. YOU CAN SEE I AM NOW AT A SIMILAR MILEAGE. OUR FLEET MAN TOLD ME THERE WAS NO INVOICE AND THE ENGINE WAS FIXED FOR FREE AT A CHRYSLER DEALER. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN- A CYLINDER HEAD SHOULD NOT NEED REPLACEMENT AT 80K+ ON A PROPERLY MAINTAINED VEHICLE. I AM SUBMITTING THIS BECAUSE CHRYSLER IS STATING THIS IS SOME SORT OF RARE (LESS THAN 1%) OCCURRENCE DUE TO AN ODD COMBINATION OF FACTORS, INCLUDING BAD FUEL. I BEG TO DIFFER AS WE HAVE HAD 2 PENTASTAR CARAVANS FIXED AT WORK, AND IT'S LIKELY MINE WILL BE NUMBER 3. THIS IS QUITE REMARKABLE, AND CAN'T BE DISCOUNTED AS SOME SORT OF FLUKE.
