First, the back hatch would just open itself even if you were going 30 miles an hour or under. Had it checked out couldn’t afford the diagnostics so I took out the fuse. Second, there is a ticking in my right back corner. It doesn’t happen when you’re going down the road, but it happens while you’re parked or just starting out. Mechanic friend of mine checked into it we would have to trace the electrical from front to back and again, I cannot afford that. So there’s 135,000 miles on my vehicle now and this happened about six months ago. I forgot there was a place to report it. I’m not very car savvy. Also, I had to replace my entire starting my starter, my alternator, a battery actually too and now I’m going to have to replace the switch for the ignition that’s all happened within one year or less. Just thought somebody should report these each time I fixed an ignition issue, the problem was fixed for at least a month or two and then the next one would happen. Very aggravating.
My car shuts down while idling at a stop light. Before that happens, the rpm drops down, the car shakes a bit, and then the engine dies. What could be the problem?
The seals in the oil cooler/filter assembly are leaking and causing oil to run down the motor and along the exhaust system underneath potentially causing a serious fire risk. The leak could also cause the engine to seize and pose a risk while driving at highway speeds or in corners. When searching for recalls on the internet it says there isn’t enough vehicles with the problem to trigger a recall. It don’t take long searching to see this is a wide spread well know issue with most all the 3.6 and 3.2l engines. It was a terrible plastic design places in one of the hottest areas of the engine. This issue was so common dodge eventually changed to design of the cooler to correct the safety issue and it was so prevalent on all these engines. The fix is fine but it has left all these other vehicles on the road with the unsafe design flaw. I really can’t understand why an issue as well known, common and serious has been allowed to remain without a recall, especially given they have an updated replacement part available to correct the issue. I can’t help but wonder if this issue was on an import it would have had a recall years ago but because it’s a US manufacturer is getting swept under the rug. Please do the right thing and look into the issue, especially as common as it is. I can’t even get an inspection sticker on the vehicle because is unsafe and doesn’t meet the standard for a Maine inspection, so there is no way one can argue it isn’t a safety issue.

Hello,my concern is safety and All of the recalls,have never been sent to my mail/honored.There seems to be safety issues with the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan engines,transmissions,tp sensors,door bend agitator.Theres more but Id rather have a safe healthy outcome.Also my vehicle accelerates at a un safe speed of over 80 mp when at 30 mpg without my foot even being on the pedal??? Oh my not safe,and police have to help stop vehicle on freeway with 5 lanes of ongoing traffoc very unsafe and scarry.Please help get these issues fixae asap .Thank you
The vehicle suddenly shuts down while driving creating a dangerous situation. The dealership diagnosed it as a faulty ignition switch and said it is common and that there was the same issue on previous generation of caravan that was recalled. I have it scheduled for replacement and will ask for the old part back.
Symptoms and Unknown: There are numerous reports of the oil filter housing that is prone to cracking which causes the engines in 3.6 Pentastar V6 engines to leak oil. This engine issue affects the 2011 and newer Grand Caravans with the said engine. My sister has had to replace this part twice now (Every other year - She replaced the last one two years ago) in her Grand Caravan SE. The symptoms which leads us to know that this is the problem is the vehicle develops a really bad oil leak and the oil level ends up being a quart low. The same symptoms happened when the first part was replaced prior to the part that needs to be replaced now. My sister was informed that the part she put in last time is not a definite fix as the said part could malfunction and crack again. This is a defect of the design of this engine that needs to be recalled and replaced with the new part free of charge that is also an updated part that is different than older parts that will not break. This is a SAFETY HAZARD as my sister has two small children and they could wind up on the road or interstate broken down. RECALL or TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) is needed from Chrysler.
Like the other hundreds of thousands 3.6 Litre V6 engines with the notorious oil filter housing/oil cooler oil leak, mine just started at 120,000 miles. I'm the only person to ever change the engine oil and oil filter in this vehicle. I have always torqued the oil filter to spec (18 ft. lbs). There should be a recall on this faulty part.
Ignition module failed, causing van to stall while driving. The stall forced the vehicle to lose power steering and it had to coast over to the shoulder to get out of traffic, this could’ve resulted in a crash or blocking traffic. This happened twice, once during a very hot day. The van was able to restart after about 30 minutes and finished the short distance to the destination. The second time was at night when temps had cooled 20 degrees and it stalled at approximately the same distance it had traveled the first time. That time it was not able to be restarted and had to be towed to a repair shop, where they tested and replaced the ignition module. No warning lights or indicators went off either time prior to the engine stall. The check engine light did not come on until the second time when it would not start again.

In October 2022 I was driving down a residential road and slowed to turn into a parking lot and all power was lost. Was able to safely maneuver car and stop in parking lot. Put car in park, turned off the ignition. Restarted car, seemed ok. Mechanic said nothing was wrong. Now it’s happened twice more (April 14th and 17th, 2023). Once when trying to accelerate and merge onto a highway, once when slowing down to turn into a driveway. Both times the van just seemed to shut down and lose power. Steering became very difficult. Both times van restarted and continued driving after the incident. Waiting on word from mechanic to see what may be wrong.

The vehicle has shut itself off multiple times. It is seemingly random and happens without warning. It has happened when driving at slow speeds but it has also happened when driving at speeds of up to 60 mph and the vehicle loses power. We need to maneuver through traffic while coasting to the side of the road with no power steering available until the car is restarted. The dash goes blank and the car is rolled to a stop. The key is turned off and back on and the car drives as if nothing is wrong. It has been brought to a mechanic and dealer. No one has successfully duplicated the issue and there is no code issued after it happens.

Check engine light keeps going on. Code reads for a cyclinder 6 misfire. Took vehicle to two car repair shops and both determined cyclinder 6 is unresponsive and stated this is a common issue with the 3.6 engines. Mechanic replaced spark plug, coil and did pressure testing to rule out injector issues.
We replace the complete Oil Cooler and Filter Housing in December 2020 and now, today May 10, 2022, we are having to replace the Oil Filter Housing Assembly due to the plastic cracking. It is being replaced with an Aluminum Housing that was not available in 2020. Time has proven that this is a Materials Design Flaw from Dodge and they totally ignored their potential failure points during the FMEA process on these units. This should be a recall for all affected vehicles and owners that have already had to preform the repairs should be reimbursed and any that were repaired with the plastic units should be replaced at NO CHARGE with the new Aluminum housings.

Engine oil filter adapter assembly failure of Manufacturer OEM Part Numbers: 68105583AA, 68105583AB, 68105583AC, 68105583AD, 68105583AF, 68105583AE This failure results in many safety concerns to include engine bay fires. The inferior plastic OEM part is prone to failures causing pressurized oil leaks at the top of the engine that contaminate many other parts to include the exhaust manifold, exhaust components inclusive of the catalytic converter which operates at normal temperature exceeding 650 degrees F. Flash fires accrue frequently in this regard and engaging the occupants, others, environment, and may result in fatalities. There are no check engine lights or safety warnings of any kind for this failure unless oil pressure is lost after the fact. The OEM parts is not a suitable material for typical engine temps exceeding temps of 200F and will break down on a molecular basis. There is currently an aluminum upgrade manufactured by Dorman, part number 926-876 that is not supported nor provided by Mopar. I am a retired ASE Master Technician with over 40 years of experience. I have seen over 30 instances of this failure effecting a wide rage of 2014 Chrysler vehicles with the 3.2 and 3.6 liter gas engines. Vehicle mileage is not a factor in this regard. Inferior simply put, OEM Product, plus time, plus normal engine temps will cause the molecular material breakdown and thus component failure. It is aggravated by oil change procedures when even skilled technicians try to change the filter by removing the cover or over torque the cover and fracture the now brittle inferior materials. Internally we have also noticed severe chemical softening of the housing sealing surfaces that remain in constant contact with engine oil. This further proves the inferior product material incompatibilities. Please validate ASAP to begin a Recall campaign that will surely prevent future fatalities or catastrophic damage to personal property or the environment.
1. My engine light came on. I plugged in my code reader and it stated that the temperature sensor failed. 2. My engine failing causes risk for my safety on the highways to and from work. 3. Both dealer and independent service center. I brought it into the local mechanic, since the dealership had no appointments for 2 weeks. Since my van has 113,096 miles on it, we had them check the temp sensor, replace the spark plugs and boots, serpentine belt, air filter and battery. Engine light went off for a few hours. Car was idling rough. Came back on again, this time stating cylinder 5 was misfiring, made an appointment with the dealership for 2 weeks out, in the meantime, I had the mechanic replace the fuel injector. Engine light came back on again, car running extremely rough. Brought the van to the dealership, they replaced the rollers and lifters and installed new valve cover gaskets. When I asked the dealership if this was a common problem, he admitted it was with this engine. I know recalls have been made on 2011-2013 Caravan engines. I would add 2014 to that as well. 4. I was not inspected by any of the listed agents above. 5. No, they began the end of Nov. No prior problems.
Loud audible ticking under the hood. Upon driving there is a jerk, tug feel. Upon smoothing out, it returns if going up a small slanted road. Has the feel of threatening to shut off. Purchased from Carmax. Reported to CarMax 11/23/21. Told me to schedule an appointment with Christian Brothers Automotive located in Montgomery County, Alabama. Due to Thanksgiving, took van in today on 11/29/21. There are no codes coming up. They asked if they were cleared by another. No one has seen this van other than an oil change. They were unable to help, but verified and documented the ticking. Possible lifter. Stated to see about recalls on this. Nothing. Unfixed.
At approximately 100,220 the engine began making a tiking/tapping sound. This sound is from faulty bearings in the rocker arms. The bearings in the rocker arms in the 3.6L V6 engine are indeed faulty and the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan should be covered for replacement. 2013 models have a 10 year 150,000 warranty. Why are the 2014 model Grand Caravan not covered as well. If you listen to any 2011 and up 3.6L Dodge engine you can hear this tapping noise. Eventually the rocker arm will cause wear on the camshaft and that will have to also be replaced. Our vehicle is now currently at 104,000 miles and I’m still unable to get Dodge to cover these parts.
I would like to report a problem with my 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan 30th anniversary edition: 3.6L engine .There is a problem with the Oil Filter Housing Cooler that has a terrible leak.According to internet this problem has been around from the very beginning that these parts have been installed in various Chrysler models. There is a bulletin on various web sites about this problem, many people have complained about this part failing on their vehicles. I feel that this is definitely a Safety Problem due to the fact the oil is leaking onto the hot engine and could cause a fire to start.The Manufacturer and Dealers are aware of this problem but don't want to take responsibllity for the engineering defect of this part. I had a mechanic look at it, and was told they have seen this problem on many other vehicles in their shop. Please look into this issue for me and tell me if you can help me in any way get this repaired by the Manufacturer or dealer. I purchased this vehicle new in April 2014, Thank you.
within in the past month the following issues took place: 1. vehicle would not start (battery is less than 1 year old) vehicle was jumped 2. while backing out of the drive way, midway into the street, the car shut off completely and would not start. Engine was running fine, wasn't a "stall". All electrical components shut off. While attempting to put car in neutral to push, the vehicle than started. 3. The day prior to this, my wife reported that while driving on the highway the dashboard lights completely shut off, they then started flashing on and off while driving. 4. This same issue happened on 10/30/21 The car has not yet been taken in for service for this problem. After the incident listed in #4 the battery warning light remained on.
Was driving onto a narrow 2 lane elevated bridge when, without warning, the engine just stopped. There were no warning lights or sounds before or after the engine stopped. I was stranded on this bridge on busy route U.S 17 and no other drivers could go around me because of construction barriers. Eventually some other drivers that were stuck behind me helped me push vehicle to crest of bridge and I coasted to the bottom of the bridge and got out of the roadway. Vehicle was towed to Dodge dealer because it would not restart. Dealer diagnosed problem as Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). Cost to repair was $1382. It became quite apparent to me that Chrysler-Dodge has made a fortune replacing these parts on many of their vehicles, to the level that would indicate that there is some defect in the design or manufacturing of these parts. I have since read hundreds of stories about other drivers left stranded in the roadway over this issue. Certainly seems dangerous enough to warrant a safety recall over these numerous part failures.

MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON MY 2014 GRAND DODGE CARAVAN. THE CODE CAME BACK AS P0302- MISFIRE IN CYLINDER TWO. I CHANGED ALL MY SPARK PLUGS. IT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC SAID THE MISFIRE IS STILL HAPPENING. MY MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THERE IS LOW COMPRESSION ON CYLINDER #2. THIS IS A RECURRING AND COMMONLY KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE PENTASTAR ENGINE! THIS VAN ONLY HAS 80,000 MILES! HE SAID HE NEEDS TO OPEN THE ENGINE AND REPLACE THE LIFTERS AND INTAKE VALUES. HE SAID THIS IS RARE AND DEFINITELY IS A MANUFACTURE ISSUE! 2014 DODGE CARAVAN W/ ABOUT 80,000 MILES HAD A P-0302 CYLINDER MISFIRE-CODE. ON 9/19/18, WAS DRIVING ON HWY 394 IN MINNEAPOLIS WHEN FIRST HAD PROBLEM. ENGINE DIE ON ME IN THE MIDDLE IF HIGHWAY. IT WAS DOING RUSH HOURS AND WAS GOING LOW SPEED, PROBABY AROUND 10-20 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART VAN AND DROVE THE REST OF THAT DAY WITH NO PROBLE. TODAY HAD SAME PROBLEM, 9/20/19, IT HAPPENS 3X. ONE WAS WHEN I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT, SAME THING HAPPEN ON THE 2X. THE 3X IS WHEN I WAS GOING 20-30 MPH AND WAS FOLLOWING SVERAL CURVE OF THE STREET WHEN IT HAPPEN. I COULD NOT TURN OR STOP CAUSE ENGINE STOP WORKING. ALMOST WENT UP THE CURVE. AGAIN, I WAS ABLE TO START THE VAN FINE AND GO ON MY WAY. I CALL DEALER IN BROOKLYN CENTER, MN FOR A DIAGNOSIS FOR 9/24. LOOK UP PROBLEM ON INTERNET AND FOUND PEOPLE WITH SAME PROBLEM EVERYWHERE.

VAN STALLED A FEW TIMES, OUT OF THE BLUE, WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED DUE TO CONSTRUCTION. NEVER HAD PREVIOUS PROBLEM. STALLED IN ROAD WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN INTO GAS STATION. GOT VAN RUNNING AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN, MOTOR DIED DOWN TO BARELY A CRAWL AND WAS ABOUT TO STALL AS A SEMI TRUCK APPROACHED US. GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, TIRES SQUEALING BARELY GOT OUT OF THE TRUCKS WAY. ENGINE STALLED AGAIN, COASTED INTO STATION BUT BLOCKING DRIVE. COULD NOT START AGAIN, HAD TO PUSH OUT OF THE WAY. IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE #2 CYLINDER WHICH IS THE SAME ISSUES THE 2011-2013'S GRAND CARAVANS HAD A SAFETY BULLETIN 09-002-14 PUT OUT FOR IN 2014. I HAVE ATTACHED A COPY OF MY REPAIR BILL.

DIAGNOSTICS INDICATED AN ENGINE MISFIRE AND SERVICE TECHNICIAN FOUND LOW COMPRESSION IN CYLINDER #3. FURTHER TROUBLESHOOTING DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS A VALVE FAILURE AND THE DEALER REPAIRS COST US OVER $2,700. UNFORTUNATELY, OUR 5YR/50,000MI LIMITED POWERTRAIN WARRANTY EXPIRED IN APRIL...EIGHT DAYS BEFORE THE ENGINE FAILURE! WE PREVIOUSLY ENJOYED OWNING A CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY AND HAVE BEEN HAPPY WITH THE PERFORMANCE AND UTILITY OF THE GRAND CARAVAN, BUT THE ENGINE FAILURE SEEMS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE AS OTHER OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED ON PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS. APPARENTLY THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED FOR 2011-2013 MODEL YEARS, BUT NOT 2014. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED BY FCA US BEFORE IT BECOMES A SAFETY ISSUE.

IT TURNED OUT TO BE ENGINE OIL, AND AFTER A QUICK SEARCH FOR 2014 GRAND CARAVAN OIL LEAKS IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM KNOWN BY CHRYSLER CORP, AND IS MOST LIKELY A FAULTY OIL FILTER HOUSING ASSEMBLY. THE OIL HAS PRETTY MUCH SPREAD ALL OVER THE TOP OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, THE TRANSMISSION HOUSING, AND ALL PARTS UNDERNEATH. THE CAR ALSO HAD A BURNT OIL SMELL WHEN I TOOK IT ON A TEST DRIVE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE LEAKING OIL COULD CATCH FIRE ON THE EXHAUST AND WON'T BE DRIVING THE CAR ANY MORE UNTIL I CAN GET IT FIXED. IT CERTAINLY SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY ISSUE CHRYSLER SHOULD TAKE CARE OF, BUT THE CAR IS JUST OVER THE 100,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. MY MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THERE IS LOW COMPRESSION ON CYLINDER #2. THIS IS A RECURRING AND COMMONLY KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE PENTASTAR ENGINE ATTRIBUTABLE TO A CRACKED CYLINDER HEAD ON THE LEFT SIDE. CHRYSLER HAS PROMISED TO REPLACE FOR AFFECTED ENGINES AT NO COST TO OWNERS AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE IS WITHIN 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. I HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE TWO YEARS AGO WHICH WAS FIXED AT NO COST TO ME WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS AT 78,000 MILES PLUS.. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE THIS TIME CHRYSLER HAS REFUSED TO PICK UP THE COST OF $1,800 PLUS ESTIMATED BY THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE CYLINDER HEAD ON MY VEHICLE. BUT INSTEAD OF ISSUING A MASS RECALL TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM CHRYSLER HAS ISSUED A PUBLIC BULLETIN STATING THAT THE COMPANY WILL PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF CYLINDER HEADS AS THIS PROBLEM OCCURS ON THE PENTATSTAR ENGINE UP TO 10 YEARS 150,000.(NOT 5 YEARS 100,000 MILES) I HAVE POINTED OUT THIS FACT AND REFERENCED THE CHRYSLER BUT TO NO AVAIL. IT WILL BE FINE ONE DAY AND THEN ONE DAY GOING UP A HILL IT WILL GET REAL JERKY AND BUMPY FOR ANOTHER FEW DAYS. IT HAPPENED LAST FEBRUARY SO WE TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO REPLACED THE OIL SENDING UNIT UNDER WARRANTY. ALSO THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR AND BELT WHICH WAS $700 OUT OF POCKET. I FEEL THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS ENGINE BECAUSE OTHER PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME THING. THEY REPLACED A HEAD ON 1-15-2016 THEN REPLACED IT AGAIN ON 1-29-2015. THEY REPLACED THE WIRING HARNESS ON 3-4-2016. THE ALTERNATOR AND BELT WAS ON 2-27-2017. NOW WE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENING AGAIN.

WE TOOK THE VAN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AS IT IS STILL UNDER MANUFACTURE'S WARRANTY. THE DEALER MENTIONED THAT THE OIL "COOLER" OR ADAPTER WAS PROBABLY CRACKED FROM THE LAST OIL CHANGE. THIS PART IS WHAT HOLDS THE OIL FILTER. IT IS A PLASTIC PART THAT IS SUBJECT TO TORQUE WHEN THE CAP IS REMOVED AND REPLACED AFTER CHANGING THE OIL FILTER. THIS PART IS ENGINEERED TO FAIL AFTER SO MANY OIL CHANGES. ONCE IT FAILS, OIL IS FORCED UNDER PRESSURE ON TOP OF THE ENGINE, CAUSING A POTENTIAL FIRE RISK. THE DEALER WILL NOT COVER THIS UNDER MANUFACTURE'S WARRANTY SINCE THEY DID NOT PERFORM THE OIL CHANGE. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND A RECALL OF THIS PART WITH REPLACEMENT USING A METAL REPLACEMENT SHOULD BE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT, NOT AFTER.

I HAVE CALLED DEALERSHIPS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND NO ONE WILL SELL ONE DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF FAILURES AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE PART REPLACED IS TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACE ONE.
WHILE DRIVING THE VAN JUST CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IT MANAGED TO ROLL TO THE SHOULDER AND STARTED. THE VAN WAS DRIVEN A LITTLE FURTHER AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY THE SAME THING HAPPENED. IT WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE WRONG SIZE TIRES ON THE REAR CAUSED THE ABS TO COME ON AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THEY REPLACED THE TIRES AND RETURNED THE VAN. TWO DAYS LATER IT DID THE SAME THING. TOOK THE VAN BACK AND THEY KEPT IT FOR OVER A MONTH. THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION & RETURNED IT. THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN AND WAS TAKEN BACK. THE DEALERSHIP COULD RECREATE THE PROBLEM BUT DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. ANOTHER MONTH OR MORE GOES BY AND THEY DECIDED THAT THE PUMP THAT THEY REPLACED WAS DEFECTIVE. THEY REPLACED THE PUMP AND RETURNED THE VAN. A COUPLE OF WEEKS GO BY AND THE VAN IS CUTTING OFF AGAIN. IT IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. EACH TIME THAT THIS HAPPENED THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON A ROADWAY IN TRAFFIC. THIS REALLY COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE IS JUST A LEMON AND CANNOT BE REPAIRED TO THE POINT THAT ANYONE FEELS SAFE DRIVING IT. *TR

FUEL LINE FAILURE WHILE MERGING ONTO MAJOR HIGHWAY. THIS RESULTED IN LOSS OF ACCELERATION AND POWER STEERING ON THE HIGHWAY. VEHICLE COASTED / ROLLED TO THE NEXT AVAILABLE HIGHWAY EXIT. UPON INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, I OBSERVED BOILING LIQUID; VEHICLE WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALER. ODB SCANNER REPORTED IT AS A #2 CYLINDER FAILURE. PRIOR TO HIGHWAY FAILURE, VAN HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT RESULTING FROM A #2 CYLINDER MISFIRE. TOOK THE VAN TO DEALER AND THEY DID NOT FIND THE CORRECT PROBLEM, SO PAID TWICE FOR SERVICE. THE FIRST PAYMENT TO FIX RESULTED FROM THE CHARGE FOR INSPECTION FROM THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. SECOND CHARGE RESULTED AFTER NEEDING TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND AFTER THE DEALER FIXED THE FUEL LINE ISSUE.

WE HAVE TRIED TO PURSUE THIS PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER VIA OUR LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAY IT IS A MERE COINCIDENCE. WE FEEL THAT IT IS A CONTINUATION OF THE SAME PROBLEM INTO THE NEW MODEL YEAR, AND THAT THEIR SUPPOSED FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM IS NOT WHAT THEY THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITHIN HOURS OF PURCHASING IT FROM A REPUTABLE USED CAR DEALERSHIP. RETURNED TO DEALER, THEY READ THE CODE, SAID IT WAS PROBABLY JUST A FLUKE, AND RESET IT. A COUPLE HOURS LATER IT CAME BACK ON. BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TRIED THE "EASY" FIXES (SPARK PLUGS, WIRES, COIL) AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO THROW THE SAME CODE. THEY BROUGHT IT TO A REGULAR DODGE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY CLEANED THE INJECTORS, SAID THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED AND SENT US ON OUR WAY. WITHIN HOURS IT THREW THE SAME CODE. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY DID NOT RESPOND. WE LIVED 8 HOURS AWAY, AND WERE HALFWAY HOME AT THAT POINT. SO WE TRIED TO PURSUE IT WITH OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP, AND THEY ARE SAYING IT IS JUST A COINCIDENCE. WE HAVE DONE EXTENSIVE RESEARCH, BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, AND INTENTIONALLY AVOIDED THE 11-13 MODELS BECAUSE OF THIS EXACT PROBLEM. NOW WE REALIZE WE SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE OF THOSE MODEL YEARS BECAUSE DODGE WILL CORRECT THEIR PROBLEM. HOWEVER, NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE ABOUT THE 14S TO GET THEM TO OWN UP TO THE CONTINUED PROBLEM AND OFFER A REPAIR. ALL WE GOT FROM THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WAS A QUOTE FOR $2500 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. OUR RESEARCH HAS TURNED UP SEVERAL OTHER 2014 VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PENTASTAR ENGINE (NOT NECESSARILY GRAND CARAVANS) THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. DODGE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR 11-13 TO 150,000 DUE TO THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THEY SHOULD INCLUDE 2014.

VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN OFF EVEN WITH IGNITION KEY REMOVED. VEHICLE OVERHEATED TO MAX TEMPERATURE ON GAUGE, BEGAN TO STEAM AND SPILLED A LOT OF COOLANT. VERY AFRAID VEHICLE WOULD CATCH FIRE. CALLED AAA AND TOW TRUCK DRIVER LOCATED AND REMOVED FUSE TO SHUT DOWN RUNNING VEHICLE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO CHRYSLER DODGE DEALERSHIP. AFTER A WEEK STILL HAVE NOT HEARD FROM DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT OR CHRYSLER. THE VEHICLE BEING STUCK WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING EVEN WITH IGNITION KEY REMOVED AND SUBSEQUENT RAPID OVERHEATING AND LOSS OF COOLANT PRESENTED AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH THE STRONG POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE FIRE. THE TPMS LIGHT MALFUNCTION LEAVES THE DRIVER UNABLE TO DETERMINE IF THERE REALLY IS AN UNDERINFLATED TIRE AND/OR TIRES. THE ESC LIGHT MALFUNCTION LEAVES THE DRIVER UNABLE TO USE THIS FUNCTION FOR IMPROVED THE VEHICLE'S TRACTION IN VATIOUS SITUATIONS.

MY CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE, ALL LIGHTS CAME ON THE PANEL, AND THE CAR WAS DEAD. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED YESTERDAY, I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT ON A VERY BUSY 4 LANE HIGHWAY. THE CAR WENT DEAD WITH NO WARNING. WE TOOK THIS CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED. THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CODE. I REFUSE TO DRIVE THIS CAR, THAT WE'VE HAD LESS THAN A YEAR, BECAUSE I FEAR FOR MY LIFE AND EVEN MORE FOR MY CHILD'S LIFE. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY.

THE CAR HAS BEEN TO THE SHOP 6 TIMES. 3 DIFFERENT ELECTRONIC MODULES HAVE BEEN REPLACED. IT STILL STALLS OUT.

ENGINE OIL CAPACITY IS LISTED AS 6 QUARTS (US) IN MULTIPLE SOURCES, HOWEVER AFTER DRAINING AND REFILLING ENGINE ON A LEVEL SURFACE WITH 6 QUARTS, THE DIPSTICK READING SHOWED AT MIN LEVEL. AFTER ADDING AN ADDITIONAL 1/2 QUART, THE LEVEL REACHED THE FULL MARK. MOST VEHICLE DIPSTICKS ARE DESIGNED SUCH THAT THE AMOUNT OF OIL REQUIRED TO RAISE THE LEVEL FROM MIN TO MAX IS 1 QUART. THERE IS NO INDICATION ON THE DIPSTICK TO INDICATE EITHER WAY. THIS MIGHT ALSO EXPLAIN WHY MY DEALER OVERFILLED THE CRANKCASE WHEN I HAD THEM PERFORM A PREVIOUS OIL CHANGE. UNDERFILLING AS WELL AS OVERFILLING THE OIL CAN RESULT IN PREMATURE ENGINE WEAR AND FAILURE, AS PER MANUFACTURERS OWN LITERATURE AND AS SUCH MAY CONSTITUTE A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. I CAME OUT OF MY HOUSE ON FRIDAY MORNING (09/26/2014) TO FIND MY VAN PARKED IN MY CARPORT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. APPARENTLY MY CAR HAD STARTED THE ENGINE AND RAN FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES BY ITSELF WITH NO HUMAN INTERACTION, THIS IS STRANGE BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE A REMOTE STARTER AND IT DOES NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO START ON ITS OWN. AS I APPROACHED THE CAR I COULD SEE THAT THERE WAS NO KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THAT THE DOORS WERE STILL LOCKED. I HAVE 2 KEY FOBS, BOTH WERE IN MY POSSESSION, AND USING ONE OF THE KEY FOBS I WAS ABLE TO UNLOCK THE DRIVERS DOOR. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF FORCED ENTRY, I AM THE ONLY ONE LIVING AT MY RESIDENCE AND NO ONE ELSE HAD ACCESS TO THE CAR KEYS. I FOUND THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS IN THE OFF POSITION SO I INSERTED THE KEY FOB AND TURNED IT TO THE ON POSITION AN BACK TO THE OFF POSITION SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED RUNNING. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD ME THE VEHICLE AND TALKED WITH 2 DIFFERENT SERVICE TECHNICIANS BUT NEITHER ONE COULD OFFER AN EXPLANATION. THEY ASKED ME TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE, WHICH I DID AND I AM CURRENTLY WAITING ON THE DISPOSITION. AFTER I GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING AND I WAS THEN ABLE TO USE THE KEY FOB TO TURN ON THE IGNITION AND TO START AND STOP THE VEHICLE NORMALLY. I HAVE OWNED THE VAN ABOUT 3 MONTHS AND PRIOR TO THIS EVENT I NOTICED THAT MY POWER DOOR LOCKS WERE OPEN SOMETIMES AFTER I HAD LEFT THE CAR LOCKED. I WAS DRIVING THIS BRAND NEW RENTAL VAN ON A 4-LANE STATE HIGHWAY. I'D BEEN ON THE ROAD LESS THAN AN HOUR WHEN I ENGAGED THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE VAN WAS IN CRUISE MODE FOR AT MOST A COUPLE OF MINUTES WHEN I SENSED THE VAN SLOWING. I LOOKED DOWN TO SEE THE TACHOMETER AT ZERO; I REALIZED ITS ENGINE HAD TURNED OFF. VERY FORTUNATELY FOR ME, THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES CLOSE BY ME. I WAS ABLE TO CRUISE TO THE SHOULDER AND COME TO A STOP. I'M NOT 100% SURE, BUT I BELIEVE ALL OF THE VEHICLE'S POWER WAS OFF (FOR EXAMPLE, I DON'T THINK I HAD POWER STEERING ANYMORE). I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, RESTARTED THE IGNITION, AND DECIDED TO CONTINUE ON MY TRIP. I ENDED UP PUTTING JUST OVER 1,000 MILES ON IT OVER THE NEXT 7 DAYS, AND THE INCIDENT DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. DURING THAT TIME, I WAITED PROBABLY FOR ANOTHER 400 MILES BEFORE I RISKED TRYING THE CRUISE CONTROL AGAIN (AGAIN, WHEN NO VEHICLES WERE NEARBY); NO PROBLEMS AGAIN. YET, THIS DEFINITELY COULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT-INDUCING DEFECT HAD I BEEN IN TRAFFIC IN WHICH THE UNCONTROLLED DECREASE IN SPEED COULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS. THIS IS OF COURSE A CHRYSLER PRODUCT, NOT A GM, MY EXPERIENCE WAS STRIKINGLY SIMILAR TO SOME OF THE STORIES I'VE HEARD / READ ABOUT PEOPLE DRIVING COBALTS. I DID REPORT THIS INCIDENT TO THE (ALAMO) RENTAL CAR GUY WHEN I RETURNED THE VEHICLE. BUT AGAIN, AFTER READING ABOUT THE COBALT IGNITION PROBLEMS OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, I FELT COMPELLED TO REPORT THIS TO NHTSA. *TR
