The transmission failed- according to the NTSB there was a recall for 2016 Dodge Caravans for auto transmission pump failures. I was told my vin # didn't match the recalled Vin numbers yet that's what failed on my vehicle costing about 4 thousand for repair work.

Transmission slipping in first gear. Codes from dealership. P0944 LOSS PRIME P0868 LOW PRESSURE

Aug 5, 2025

While driving, transmission went out without warning. Prior, it was driving fine. While on the highway the vehicle lost power from the accelerator and the check engine light illuminated. When pressing the accelerator, RPMs would go all the way up and the car would not accelerate at all. It was checked out shortly after by a mechanic. They ran a scan for the check engine light, which reported several codes being thrown for failed transmission components.

Jul 25, 2025

I purchased a used 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan SE in April of 2025 with only 52,973 miles on it, and a one owner. On June 26, 2025, the van lost pull power, wouldn't accelerate, check engine light came on and I was stranded. Towed to dealer, had metal in the transmission fluid and a new transmission was ordered and installed under the extended warranty I had purchased when I bought the van. Within an hour or so after picking up my repaired van, after business hours and on the weekend, I broke down again. It was determined this time that two sensors on the new transmission were bad. Picked up my van and drove it for four days, and again after business hours and on the weekend, my van did the same thing, slipping transmission, wouldn't accelerate, only this time I was almost in a car wreck. I pulled onto a four lane interstate under construction (now one lane) from a dead stop and was almost ran over by a truck. Trying to get the van to a safe spot I had to pull over and let it sit, like to cool off maybe. This time there was no check engine light or codes the dealership reported. They apparently drove it some, said they couldn't find anything, couldn't do anything because there were not codes or check engine lights, that I could come and get it. I not only could have been in an accident, but could have been killed, and they want me to come and get it! After those remarks to them, they said they would keep it a couple days and drive it more. I have an extended warranty, but this warranty which also covers towing or rental is not covered because it now goes under the actual bought transmission warranty. I have been without my work vehicle for about a month now and know I can't trust this van any longer when I get it back. My only hope is with the extended warranty someday it will be repaired or van replaced. The Carfax report from where I bought it had "no recalls reported". Really!? Five so far.

Driving along and suddenly van didn’t go into gear….towed and was confirmed there is a transmission issue….when checked for recalls about this issue, I was told my vehicle ID number doesn’t match the recall however no one can tell me why if there was a recall on this particular make and model and Year BUT my VIN is not included. I have been unsuccessful in ANY resolve or answers since March of this year ! Very disappointed and unsatisfied with the way I have not been able to get ANY help. I am [XXX] with very limited knowledge of the mechanical portion of this process. I would truly appreciate any further assistance you can offer. The vehicle lost power in all gears while driving on highway, I was in the middle of large semi trucks speeding around me and nearly hit me. The vehicle transmission acted up at 115,000 miles. It has clean transmission fluid and it is full. I believe it should be covered under the transmission recall for this year range but it does not have any recalls.

Was driving home from work (on city streets) and noticed that the engine seemed to be idling higher than normal RPMs. Van would not shift from first gear and would not accelerate beyond about 30 MPH, very sluggish, while RPMs rose above 3K and engine made a grinding/whining sound. No warning lights of any kind came on while driving or while stopped. While stopped at a traffic light, heard several loud clunks from under the hood and van had difficulty accelerating from stop. Was able to get it to the shop where they diagnosed transmission failure - the mechanics couldn't get it out of first gear by the time they were done looking at it and had to push it off the lift. Total cost of a remanufactured transmission plus new hubs and axles because they couldn't get the old ones removed without damaging them to remove/replace the transmission was $5600. Van has 128,000 miles.

Nov 28, 2024

I was driving my van down the highway and all of a sudden my van jerked me, acting like it was switching gears, the rpm reviving up, steering wheel pulling me into the opposite lane. I lost all power of the vehicle and could not go over 20mph. I was thankful no one was in the oncoming lane or behind me. There was no dash lights on or warning sign. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and it has been confirmed the transmission went out of the vehicle.

Nov 11, 2024

My family was in the vehicle driving on the hwy in town and suddenly the car revved all the way up to 5000 rpms and would not shift out of first gear. When my husband shifted the car from drive to reverse to park the transmission made a loud clunking noise and hard jerking motion, the check engine light came on. There were no warning signs or lamps. this happened all within 30 seconds of driving down the highway. Since the vehicle would not shift out of first gear our safety was put at risk being we were on a major hwy and unable to gain speed or move out of way of traffic.

Transmission has failed while I was driving 2 small children

Jun 9, 2024

Vehicle transmission went out in 2022. Checked and it shows known recall for this transmission pump failure for Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles manufactured July 31, 2015, to April 18, 2016. According to the sticker inside the door, ours was manufactured in March 2016 which was during the recall period. However, our vehicle has not been included in the recall and has been sitting in our driveway for almost 2 years. It needs a new transmission due to the known pump failure issue.

Jun 9, 2024

Transmission failed with minimal warning. Getting transmission codes for pressure. There is a recall for transmission pressure but shows my VIN isn't a part of recall. This van has less than 88000 miles. I believe the recall should be expanded. This van was manufactured in the same date range affected.

May 17, 2024

Transmission had to be rebuilt at 153,000. The sliding doors actuators are locked all the time and unlocked all the time, which is a safety hazard for anyone riding in rear seats.

May 13, 2024

I was driving my van which I have had nothing but trouble with this dodge caravan, go to turn at the intersection and it just shuts off started right back up but starting to turn and it just shut off. Happened twice now, had the battery checked and every thing else seemed good just didn’t know why this happened but it almost got us hot the first time. There are a lot of dodge vans that aren’t included in the S44 recall and our VIN numbers don’t pop up. I mean the air bags are killing people in these dodges now, I’ve had nothing but a hard time with this vehicle. They are unsafe, if I wasn’t poor and could afford a good van and not bottom of the barrel I wouldn’t be dealing with this it seems. But the poor are expendable. I’d rather take my kids in my beat up ford than in my new van. That’s crazy. It’s going to get someone killed if it hasn’t already happened.

This is the second report I have put in. I have found some information since the first report I have a problem with my transmission on my Grand Caravan. There is a recall for vehicles built between 7/31/15 and 4/18/2016 and is the R/T trim package. I found out that all the Grand Caravans have the same engine and transmission in them. I would like to know why the they only say the R/T model when my vehicle falls within the specified dates. Did they pick the R/T model because they sold the least amount of those vehicle in the dates listed? I am not the first person that has had the same issue as me. Can someone explain this to me?

Oct 24, 2023

evap purge valve replaced still having issues. Also, today out of no where my vehicle started to slip when it was shifting gears, the engine is making a weird sound and slow when trying to give gas.

Oct 5, 2023

Van started fine and as I was driving the engine started revering hard and felt like it was having a hard time sifting lucky I was near my mechanic and they did that plug in and test it because the engine light came on right when I pulled in and said the transmission is gone they where able to find a rebuilt engine for my van and replaced old with a compatible engine now when this happened I had 60,000 miles. He did tell me that unfortunately they have seen this issue alot with the dodge caravan transmission just cuts out like this with no warning at all and I Googled this issue and it seems to happened to alot of other van owners. There is another issue going on that every time I get in my van before putting the key in the ignition there's a humming sound and when I park and pull out my key after car is off it makes a humming noise I have no clue what is going on but when I Google this issue it seems to be a escalator I don't know why there's not a recall on what is causing this to go on but it seems to be a dodge grand van issue.

Transmission failed at 85000 miles for a 2016 model dodge grand caravan. Vehicle taken to dealer for inspection and repaired. Vehicle will stalled then suddenly stopped when driving putting myself and family at risk of injury or death. There were no warning light or indicator prior to this issue. There are numerous reports on these type of vehicles failure.

Sep 21, 2023

I have the transmission pump fail and cause the torque converter to fail. With transmission failed may have caused an accident. I had a mechanic look at issue and found out the problem with the transmission and cost of repair. Has not been inspected at this time. I did not have any prior notice with lights or check engine light on in the car before issue with the transmission. Dodge has a recall S44 which lists the R/T Grand Caravan as this problem will occur. It has to fall in the date of manufacture between Jul 3, 2015 and April 18, 2016. I do not have the R/T model but car was manufactured within the dates listed above. Maybe this recall needs to be expanded to other models built in the same range of dates.

Transmission fluid pressure pump/sensor failure Just like all the other Dodge grand caravan vehicles of this year !

Sep 12, 2023

The transmission disengaged at highway speed causing no power to be transmitted to the wheels. It rolled to a stop in a traveling lane causing an unsafe condition. There was no warning that this was about to happen. I have found that other vehicles of the same year, make, model, and build date range have been recalled for this same problem but mine failed without warning and was not covered by this recall. My vehicle only has 79,600 miles. Executive Dodge of Wallingford, CT has confirmed the problem. The transmission pump and torque converter failed.

Aug 30, 2023

Leaking oil from the motor oil housing filter. No warning signs. I noticed oil leaks under my van and took it to a mechanic and due to so much oil the initial thought was my transmission gasket was bad. I had my transmission serviced and that's when they found out it was the motor oil housing. Since this incident I have had to replace my window regulators and the radiator. So far my van has been in the shop 4 times this year. Parts are breaking down prematurely.

I noticed the transmission was hard going from reverse to drive. While driving with my daughter down the boulevard today the van transmission started whining and struggling. The car slowed down. Thank goodness I wasn't on the freeway. I got it home. While researching transmission problems with the Grand Caravan is read there is a recall on the transmission pump of the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravans. My VIN is not included? How can this be? It is dangerous. All vans should be included if they have this problem. My minivan only has 70,000 miles on it. This year minivan has some major safety issues. I just had the minivan sliding door lock actuator replaced. Which they replaced because of a service bulletin on it.

Aug 16, 2023

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? When the vehicle was shutoff and put in park, the vehicle rolled. The parking pawl did not properly engage due to debris being in the way. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This time the movement of the vehicle was detected before any harm transpired. So the parking break was engaged to prevent movement. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, Independent service center removed debris that prevented the parking pawl from engaging. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Failure happened without any warning or prior transmission problems. This is a family vehicle and I am deeply concerned that this vehicle may roll in park causing injury to children.

Jun 13, 2023

Transmission differential began failing while driving. Van started clicking without warning or real cause. Moving to shop that specifically deals with transmissions. Had to have towed to avoid causing crash/more damage.

Jun 1, 2023

My vehicle began shutting completely off while in drive and approaching a stop. This has endangered myself as well as my family due to the current condition and unpredictability of the engine turning off while approaching a stop light or stop sign. The vehicle has been inspected by a dodge service location and the check engine light does come on. Also included is a mopar warranty bulletin addressing the same issue with the same engine but on previous years (2011-2013) of the grand caravan and multiple models. I am experiencing the same conditions on a 2016 dodge grand caravan.

My transmission was damaged by a pothole and replaced with item R890720AG in September 2018. I was driving with my family and my transmission failed with code Po944 among other transmission failure codes; on Monday January 16, 2023. While driving on the freeway I heard a weird grinding noise. The vehicle suddenly without warning slowed down. No matter how much I pressed the gas it did nothing. I tried to pull over to avoid traffic. The vehicle kept at a slow pace. Finally as I approach the edge of the road it stopped. I had to then push it to safety and call for a tow. The code P0944 is the same code that is with the recall S44. I understand that my vehicle is not part of the recall S44 but it has the same issues. Since my current part is discontinued, did it cause the same issue since its now remanufactured with item number R890720AI? I am vey concerned that this could've been a dangerous situation. We almost died that day because the transmission went out with no warning. I went to the dealer and they are not helping with the situation. Why would a new transmission from September 2018 seize in January 2023. It just made 4 years old. I need help to understand what happened and how can this be solved. Please help make sure no one else gets hurt by this issue.

I own two dodge caravans AVP package. at approximately 30K miles the transmissions on both vehicles failed. As per warranty Dodge replaced the transmissions with a remanufactured one for both vehicles. I was told yesterday that I was spilling/leaking some kind of oil. Today I brought it back to the shop and was told it was transmission oil. How do I protect myself from a faulty transmission if they are not even lasting 30K miles?

Vehicle lost power while driving. Wasn’t responding to gas Pedal. Moved to a parking lot. Ultimately had to tow to a repair shop. First I thought maybe a belt but it came down to transmission issue. Mechanic diagnosed that transmission pump failed. Cost to replace the pump is more than $3100. There is a recall for same issue for same model year but I was told by the OEM that my vehicle is not included in the recall. I saw hundred of similar stories online for this issue but surprised that recall was issue for only few vehicles while the issue might be much bigger! I am the first owner and have completed all the required maintenance on time. Disappointed with vehicle OEM for refusing goodwill warranty!

My elderly mother drove into her bank ATM and put van in park. After finishing transaction, she proceeded to put van in drive mode. It would not go forward. She then had to put it into Reverse mode (which did work) and drive backwards, she ended up in the street with her hazard lights on. A police officer noticed she was in a predicament and instructed my mom to drive in reverse into the bank parking lot. If the officer would not have been there; it’s possible she would have been in a wreck with another vehicle or building/structure. She van was towed by tow truck to her house. We are currently trying to get the van to the dealer to find out what happened. I have seen that her current model year for her van, have been recalls due to similar situations.

The transmission pump malfunctioned. It was causing the car to lunge forward while the foot was taken off the break slowly. Had to veer off the road to keep from hitting another car from behind as the car stalled. Waited for about 5 minutes and was able to drive for the same thing to happen again. I ended up having to leave the car and have it towed the next day. The car was inspected by Wayne and Daves who found there was a transmission pump failure. As of today, 8/3/2022 I have now replaced multiple parts on my vehicle for the code P0302. I replaced the #2 coil, spark plug for the code previously coming on in June. I now replaced the fuel injector and the manifold gasket but the car is still misfiring. If you do a search on this issue on the internet you will find multiple owners experiencing the same issue I am, do the same steps of repair and still coming up with the same issues after. Dodge has previously acknowledges an issues with the cylinder heads on the 2010 to 2013 models but have not added the newer ones which are obviously having the same issues costing owners extremely costly repairs.

Transmission failure, low pressure/ fluid pump failure. The car will lurch and speed forward when the gear engages increasing accident risk. My car died while idling at a stop light 3 times in a row. My engine literally shut off in the middle of the street with 5 kids in the car. Upon further investigation I see there is a major transmission issue with this vehicle and I am currently awaiting confirmation of that diagnosis from our mechanic. Unfortunately, even though this is a 2016 it does not fall under the recall. I'm not sure why since I personally know THREE other people who have had the exact same issue at 95k-100k miles with their 2015/2016 vans. I'm very disappointed and intend to take this further with Dodge itself but the recall needs to be extended to ALL 2015 and 2016 Dodge grand caravans. I will not allow my children or anyone else's to be put at risk because of their clear negligence.

The transmission shifts really hard sometimes, after if feels like it's not shifting while driving. Sometimes it's difficult to get up to speed because it isn't shifting, then when it does shift my van takes off. It's available for inspection. I feel this is unsafe due to the vehicle not being able to get up to speed, because the transmission isn't shifting properly, inhibiting the ability to get up to speed in a timely manner. The transmission pump lost pressure which caused the vehicle to stop on the side of the road, and it created a hazardous circumstance for my daughter. We had to have the vehicle towed to our residence since the transmission was not working properly. My 2016 dodge van began to lose power while i was on the freeway. While changing gears it was hesitant and would stall and lose power going from the second to the third gear. It appears the RPMs would go past 4 then the gear would change but with less power. Then the check engine light came on. Various times while i was stopped at a light upon acceleration the car would turn off. I took it down to the repair shop for the computer analyzation and was told to change the ignition coils and spark plugs and any and all air filters and check the sensors. The Performance did improve and I discovered the engine mounts were all in need of repair and that was the cause of the transmission stalling. I had those repaired and now the gears work fine. And now after spending quite a bit of money notice another issue. When I am getting out of my drive way and go from Reverse then stop to Drive there is a stall and the transmission does a clunk sound before it changes gear to drive. It very dangerous due to the fact that the gear stall and if the drive gear does not kick it any passing car may hit my van

I was stopped at a stoplight about to turn on to the Florida Turnpike when my car started idling loudly. When I stepped on the gas, I was shifted into neutral. I had to quickly shut down my vehicle, make a u-turn, and pray I would make it home. The car is no longer drivable as it slips into neutral and will not go over 10 miles per hour. The check engine light is on. Upon inspection by the independent mechanic, 6 diagnostic errors came up indicating an issue with the transmission. The mechanic confirmed that the transmission will need to be rebuilt or replaced. The van only has 57,139 miles! It's been maintained with semi-synthetic oil changes. The powertrain warranty expired just 3.5 months ago! Customer service refuses to extend good will even though the car was not driven for several months due to COVID quarantine and is under the 60k mile threshold. IT WAS SCARY & HONESTLY DON'T KNOW HOW ANYONE DIDN'T HIT US FROM BEHIND. ON 4/22/2021 IS WHEN IT HAPPENED. WAS AFRAID THE CAR WOULD BLOW SOMETHING. WE TOWED IT TO THE DODGE DEALER. WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR. IT'S ONLY 4 AND HALF YEARS OLD WITH 85,000 MILES. WE ASKED HOW COME NO SIGNS OR WARNINGS & THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD US WE WOULDN'T KNOW. IT'S CAUSE BY A LEAK. I SAID IT WON'T SHOW PARKED AT OUR HOUSE ON THE SERVICE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD US KNOW IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING. SO TO ME THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE SO NO WARNING & WE WOULDN'T KNOW. TO ME THAT SAYS THAT'S THE MANUFACTURER/DEALER'S FAULT THEN. THEY TOLD US NO IT'S OVER WARRANTY WITH MILEAGE. I SAID IT'S ONLY 4 AND HALF YEARS OLD & NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. SO ANYWAY WE PAID $6102.22 FOR NEW TRANSMISSION. TODAY 5/2/2021 NOT EVEN A WEEK SINCE WE PICKED UP & PAID FOR REPAIRS WE TOOK A RIDE AND SAME EXACT THING RPM RACED & JUST BARELY GOT IT OFF ROAD. ONCE AGAIN THOUGHT WE WOULD GET REAR ENDED. THE DEALER ISN'T OPEN TODAY BUT WE TOWED IT THERE. THIS HAS BEEN SCARY, & BEYOND FRUSTRATING. WE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT & THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT TELLS US NO WAY WE WOULD NO OR WARNING. ALSO, THEY DID A MULTI-POINT INSPECTION THEY FIXED OUR VAN. SO THIS SHOULDN'T OF HAPPENED AGAIN AT ALL & IN LESS THE A WEEK. SO THIS JUST HAPPENS I DON'T BUY THAT. DEALER ADDRESS BUHLER & BITTER INC. 3290 HIGHWAY 35 HAZLET, NJ 07730. (732)-264-5000. PLEASE INVESTIGATE CAUSE THIS IS BEYOND NERVE RACKING & I AM SO NERVOUS TO GET IT BACK TO DRIVE AGAIN.

DRIVING MY RPM WOULD AUTOMATICALLY JUST KEEP GOING HIGH. THEN I'LL BE OK THEN IT WOULD GO HIGH WITHOUT ME HITTING GAS. IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE I WAS SCARED DRIVING IT. HAD TO PULL OVER WITH HAZARDS ON CAUSE I COULDN'T ACCELERATE TO GET UP TO SPEED WITH RPM JUMPING HIGH. I WAS AFRAID SOMEONE WOULD HIT FROM BEHIND. I HAD TO GET MY VAN TOWED BACK TO ME HOUSE. I NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN AND TODAY ALL OF SUDDEN OUT OF NOWHERE THIS STARTED TO HAPPEN. AT FIRST IT DID IT A LITTLE UP AND DOWN RPM AND DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT. IF I DIDN'T NEED TO ACCELERATE AND KEPT IT BETWEEN IT SEEMED LOW OR BETWEEN 1.5 AND 2.0 RPMS IT SEEMED OK. THEN GOING UP HILL/SLOPE MOSTLY DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS IF I PUSHED ON GAS PEDAL IT WOULD TRY TO ACCELERATE THE RPM'S HIGHER. THEN IT WOULD ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN WITHOUT PUSHING GAS PEDAL. I PARKED ON SHOULDER SHUT OFF CAR AND RESTART TO FET GOING AGAIN. SAME THING ALL OVER HAPPENED. IT WAS SCARY.

OUR 2016 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN STALLS WHILE DRIVING. THERE IS NO INDICATION WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN, THE DASH INDICATORS LIGHT UP BRIEFLY AND THE ENGINE LOSES ALL POWER. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD. I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THIS VEHICLE. WE ARE ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ON AND THERE ARE NO ENGINE CODES WHEN WE RESTART. MANY OF THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ STATE THAT THE MECHANICS CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG BECAUSE THERE IS NO CODE AND CAN'T IMMEDIATELY RECREATE THE ISSUE. WE HAVE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE. YET IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. OVER AND OVER. MY VEHICLE IS IN THE 5TH GENERATION OF THIS MODEL (2008 - 2020). ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA, WELL OVER 1 MILLION HAVE BEEN SOLD IN THE US ALONE. IF HUNDREDS (MAYBE THOUSANDS) OF PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH THE SAME EXACT VEHICLE, THEN YOU KNOW THERE ARE MULTIPLES MORE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. LOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING IS A MASSIVE SAFETY ISSUE, NOT JUST FOR THE VEHICLE THAT LOSES POWER, BUT FOR ALL VEHICLES AROUND IT. I AM DATING THIS AS OF 12/19/2020 BECAUSE IT HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN LAST NIGHT, BUT PLEASE NOTE THAT IT HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS. THIS ISSUE SHOULD PROMPT A RECALL SO THAT NOBODY IS KILLED.

I PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE, BUT THE ENGINE JUST MADE A REVVING SOUND AND DIDN'T MOVE. I TRIED REVERSE, NEUTRAL, DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE ONLY REVVED. AFTER MISSING WORK, WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP THAT TOLD US A RECALL WAS NOT INCLUDING OUR VIN #. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION PUMP WASN'T GETTING FLUID TO THE TRANSMISSION AND SINCE IT FAILED OUR TRANSMISSION WAS DAMAGED. WE OUR NOW FACING NEEDING A NEW TRANSMISSION. I DON'T SEE HOW THERE IS AN ACTIVE RECALL THAT INCLUDES MY MAKE AND YEAR AND VEHICLE TYPE BUT EXCLUDES MY VIN. IF I HAD BEEN AWARE OF A RECALL A SMALL REPAIR COULD HAVE BEEN MADE. NOW MY VEHICLE NEEDS AN ENTIRE NEW TRANSMISSION. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY IF MY VEHICLE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. A CARAVAN IS SOLD SPECIFICALLY AS A FAMILY VEHICLE. YET THIS COMPANY IS PUTTING MY BABIES AT RISK. IF THEIR TRANSMISSION PUMP IS BAD IT'S IN ALL THE CARAVANS, NOT JUST ONE OR TWO. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE ACTUALLY GETS INJURED.

UPON PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE IT FEELS AND SOUNDS AS IF MY VAN IS IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION. IT TAKES TIME FOR IT TO FINALLY 'CATCH' AND BEGIN TO ACTUALLY ACCELERATE. THE HOTTER IT IS THE WORSE THE VAN SEEMS TO GET WITH THIS PROBLEM TO THE POINT WHERE IT MAKES A HIGH PITCH SOUNDS LIKE IT IS JUST BEING SET TO A NEUTRAL POSITION AND PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL TO MAKE A HIGH PITCHED SOUND. AT THIS POINT IT DOES NOT MOVE UNTIL SOMETHING FINALLY 'CATCHES' AND MAKES IT GO-EVEN THEN MOVING FROM A CRAWL SPEED. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IT ALSO MAKES A HIGH PITCH SOUND FROM THE ENGINE AREA.

DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THERE WAS A LURCH IN THE TRANSMISSION, AND THE CAR CAME TO A HALT ON THE HIGHWAY. THANKFULLY WE HAD TIME TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER BEFORE IT STOPPED COMPLETELY. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A DODGE DEALER, WHERE WE FOUND OUT THAT THE TRANSMISSION PUMP FAILED. THIS FAILURE, NOT ONLY STOPPED THE CAR COMPLETELY, BUT HAS A REPAIR TICKET OF $5,400. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR FCA, BUT THE PUMP FAILURE ONLY COVERS A LIMITED NUMBER OF VEHICLES. THIS PUMP FAILURE MAY BE EFFECTING MORE VEHICLES THAN INITIALLY THOUGHT.

THE FIRST THING TO GO WRONG WITH THIS VEHICLE WAS THE TELEVISION STOPPED WORKING AND THEY FIXED IT ONCE AND IT WENT OUT AGAIN BUT I DID NOT TAKE IT BACK BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE COST ME OUT OF POCKET .THE NEXT THING TO GO WRONG WAS THE DRIVER SIDE BACK DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN THEY HAD TO KEEP IT FOR A DAY OR TWO FOR THAT. THE NEXT THING TO GO WRONG WAS THE CYLINDER HEAD THEY TOOK A WEEK TO FIX IT BUT THE CAR STILL HAD WEAK ENGINE PERFORMANCE AND ENGINE MISFIRE SO I TOOK IT BACK FOR THEM TO CHECK IT AGAIN AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE WINDSHIELD WIPER SQUIRTER IS ALSO BROKEN. THE NEXT THING TO GO WRONG WAS THE GEAR SHIFTER, THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE AND WAS STUCK IN DRIVE WITH KEY STUCK IN THE IGNITION WE HAD JUST GOTTEN IN THE CAR .I TRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT CRANK. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED IN TWICE AND RENT A CAR ON MY OWN INSURANCE DOESN'T PROVIDE RENTAL UNLESS YOU HAVE A ACCIDENT. WHEN THAT HAPPENED MY FAMILY OF SIX WAS IN THE CAR. I HAD TO PAY FOR EVERYTHING OUT OF POCKET. THE PROBLEMS STARTED AFTER 2 YEARS AND THE CAR IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD AND FOUR MORE YEARS TO PAY FOR IT .I WAS ADVISE BY AN AGENT AT DODGE JEEP CHRYSLER TALLAHASSEE FL THAT IF I CONTINUED TO PAY MY WARRANTY WOULD BE EXTENDED.

I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN "DRIVE" AND WHILE IT SHIFTED FROM 1ST TO 2ND IT REVVED UP TO 3500 RPM BEFORE SHIFTING. WHEN SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT AND REVVED UNTIL ABOUT 8000 RPM BEFORE FINALLY SHIFTING. THE TRANSMISSION IS ALL MESSED UP. WHEN YOU GET IN AND START UP THE VAN AND PUT IT IN GEAR IT ACTS LIKE YOU ARE FEATHERING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND IT WILL SLOWLY START TO TAKE OFF. WHEN SIFTING THROUGH THE GEARS IT WILL SOMETIMES SLIP, THE RPMS WILL REV UP AND DOWN THEN JUMP INTO GEAR. SOMETIMES WHEN IT DOWN SHIFTS IT WILL JERK WHEN WE ARE STOPPING, I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS IS CALL A BUMP STOP BY THE TECHS.ALSO IF WE HAVE 3 OR 4 PEOPLE IN THE VAN AND WE TRY AND BACK UP IT JERKS VIOLENTLY, IT FEELS LIKE YOU ARE ON A BUCKING BRONCO. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER, AUDOBON CHRYSLER IN HENDERSON KY. THEY KEEP TELLING ME THAT THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AND THAT THEIR ARE NO RECALLS ON THIS VAN. IT'S FUNNY THAT I CAN GO ON LINE AND FIND ALL KINDS OF RECALLS ABOUT THE POWER TRAIN AND MANY OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE 2016 DODGE GRAND CARAVANS, BUT THE DEALER CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ANY RECALLS??? I CAN'T RECALL THE EXACT DATE WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VAN, I WOULD HAVE TO LOOK IT UP,IT WAS ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND WE ARE STILL FIGHTING WITH THE DEALER AS OF 10/24/2019 BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS ONGOING AND GETTING WORSE??

I BOUGHT MY 2016 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN IN FEBRUARY OF 2018 WITH 98000 MILES ON IT. HERE I AM 1 YEAR AND 5 MONTHS LATER HAVING TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT 108000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING ON A CITY STREET MY RPMS WERE GOING UP TO 6000 BUT MY VAN WASN'T ACCELERATING. I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED AND LUCKILY NONE OF MY CHILDREN WERE WITH ME, ESPECIALLY MY 7 WEEK OLD BABY!! THE TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP THAT I HAD IT TOWED TO SAID IT WASN'T DUE TO THE PUMP THAT WAS RECALLED, THAT APPARENTLY DID NOT APPLY TO MY VIN, BUT THE INSIDE OF MY TRANSMISSION WAS BREAKING APART INTERNALLY. WHEN THEY TOOK THE PAN OFF THE TRANSMISSION THERE WERE PIECES OF METAL LAYING IN IT. AND AFTER ALL THIS MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON.

WELL RECENTLY MY VAN BEEN IN THE SHOP TWICE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SHOWS ITS MISS FIRING (IGNITION COILS) AND SPARKPLUGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TOOK IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC IT STILL MISS FIRING IGNITION COILS. I ABOUT READY TO THROW THIS VAN AWAY. THIS VAN IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD HOW COULD IT POSSIBLY HAVE THIS MUCH PROBLEMS. I WAS DRIVING HOME AT NIGHT, AROUND 35MPH. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRANSMISSION AND RPMS WENT OFF THE CHARTS, ALL THE WAY UP TO 7000RPMS, ANY SORT OF ACCELERATION BY TAPPING THE GAS PEDAL CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO MALFUNCTION. I HAD MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR AND TRIED TO GET PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND GET THE VEHICLE STOPPED. ONCE I GOT IT STOPPED IT WAS UNDRIVABLE AT THIS POINT AND HAD TO CALL A TOW SERVICE. MY LOCAL MECHANIC DEEMED IT TO BE THE TRANSMISSION PUMP WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING. NO WARNING, NO LIGHTS, NOTHIHG. NOW THE VAN IS AT THE DODGE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. I WAS TOLD THAT GRAND CARAVANS HAD A RECALL ON TRANSMISSION PUMPS BETWEEN THE DATES OF JULY 31, 2015 AND APRIL 18,2016 (MINE WAS MANUFACTRURED OCTOBER 2015) EVEN THOUGH IT FALLS IN THOSE DATES, MY VIN# WAS NOT ATTACHED TO THE RECALL. (S44 IS THE RECALL NUMBER, ALSO THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS 16V461000) THIS WAS A SERIOUS MALFUNCTION, AND COULD HAVE BEEN MORE SERIOUS IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING JUST A LITTLE FASTER. AT ONE POINT, THE VEHICLE KEPT ACCELERATING WITHOUT THE GAS PEDAL BEING PUSHED. WE WERE LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ONCE THE VAN WAS SHUT OFF, THERE WAS A BURNING ODOR COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. I HAVE LOOKED AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE AS MINE, WHO WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND SHOULD OF BEEN. HOPEFULLY AN INVESTIGATION WILL OPEN SOON, BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED.

THE SECOND AND THIRD TIME WAS WHEN I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY AND I HAD NO SOONER STARTED THE VAN THAT IT SHUT OFF IMMEDIATELY. BOTH INSTANCES I HAVE HAD 1/4 TANK OF GAS. WHEN TOWED TO DEALER, NO CODES CAME ON SO I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO WAY TO DETERMINE WHAT WENT WRONG WITH VEHICLE.

WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE RPMS BEGAN JUMPING TO 5 AND 6 AND THE CAR WAS JERKING. PULLED OVER AND NOTICED TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE TO CAUSE THIS. WE HAVE HAD THE CAR 3 WEEKS AND HAVEN'T EVEN MADE A PAYMENT YET BECAUSE IT IS BRAND NEW. I'VE FOUND RESEARCH WHERE OTHER DODGE CARAVANS ARE HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND THEY ARE BEING RECALLED.
