I have issues starting it. New starter, new battery and it just dies. Luckily I was parked when it died. I have children, if it dies while driving I could be in a serious car crash with my children in the car. I do not want to die, I love my car but I do not want to be put in danger because of this type of issue. I also do not want to be stranded somewhere. PLEASE HELP.

The Carbondale Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle fire In the parking lot behind the above-listed address. Fire personnel arrived and found a 2009 Dodge Journey with an engine compartment fire. Fire personnel used tank water and a pre-connected 1 3/4 In. hose line to extinguish the fire. There were no exposures or damage to other property. Upon completing the extinguishment, an origin and cause investigation was conducted, which Included, but was not limited to, scene examination, documentation, and interviews. The owner of the vehicle stated the following: He purchased the vehicle new. He has liability Insurance only through Allstate. This Is not his primary vehicle. He does his own service. No known electrical Issues, and there were no warning lights on the vehicle before the fire. The vehicle has approximately 160,000 miles on It The only known issue with the vehicle was a power steering issue. Before the discovery of the fire, the owner had pulled into a gas station across town to add power steering fluid. Upon leaving the gas station, the owner reported that within a few blocks, he began seeing black smoke coming from under the hood, and there was an odd odor to the smoke. (Review of Oty Video cameras confirmed this account) He pulled in the parking lot at the above-listed address and accessed the engine compartment to find fire on the power steering reservoir, the plastic engine cover, and the cooling fan. He attempted to extinguish the fire with a soda he had and then attempted to retrieve water from a nearby building. Upon returning with water, the fire was too large to extinguish. The scene examination revealed an engine compartment fire that had transitioned Into the passenger compartment during the failure of the front windshield. The hood of the vehicle had completely melted away during the fire. Fire patterns in the engine compartment were consistent with the owners account of the fire. The contact stated that the following day while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with TIPM failure. The contact was informed that the totally integrated power module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 194,000.

I've gone through 6 batteries in 1 year and I still have to keep jumping my vehicle Everytime I start it. I am currently stranded in Walmart parking lot with no jumper cables and I am being forced to walk now. Also there are times when I am driving down the highway and at any given moment it acts as if I stomped on the brakes. The lights go off and on, the windows roll up and down, the door locks are out of control and the gauges on the dashboard go out of control as well. I recently bought a new TIPM and ECM because when I replaced the battery it would no longer start. This vehicle is very dangerous and I'm sorry I ever bought it. It seems as if dodge cares more about their money than a human life

Vehicle owner was driving and pulled over when all warning lights began flashing, wipers came on, horn started honking, windows would not go down, doors would not unlock, and vehicle started on fire. Fire appeared to begin in the engine compartment, with fire eventually consuming entire vehicle.

Hi I bought this Dodge Journey on May 24 2021 since the First day I bought it the car started giving me problems the dealer wouldn't take the car back and in stuck with it the engine from the car is Giving me problems it won't accelerate is very scary I'm very concerned because I got kids and also the car started smoking .

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that several attempts were needed to start the vehicle. The ABS, Traction Control System, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) warning lights were illuminated. The contact replaced the battery twice; however, the failure reoccurred. Additionally, the contact stated while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as designed and hesitant to respond. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or local dealer for diagnosis or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 137,000.

09 Dodge Journey 3.5l v6 issues started the day after I bought the vehicle!! will cut off while driving, stall and cut off at stop lights, stop signs. Way too much heat coming from motor, ac compressor making allot of noise. Overheating issues, brake light switch issue. Cruise control malfunction, driver’s window switch and window not working. Rear tv stopped working after a snow storm, rear ac/ heater not blowing at all, cars won’t shift out of park at all. Headlights stopped working. All lights flashed on and off while driving down the freeway at 80mph, now it’s saying gas cap on dash, while driving to a job the timing belt broke after being replaced 2 months earlier, water pump is leaking after being replaced 2 months ago. Water soaking the passenger and backseat floorboards and I can’t figure out why. This is honestly the worst vehicle I’ve ever bought and I regret buying it at all every day. This vehicle should be outlawed and against the law to sell to anyone.

I have power door locks not working except manually or driver door by key. Key fob and door module for locks will not function. I cannot open the hatch due to power lock function. The Airbag light comes on when vehicle is started and the door is open and only disappears after the door is closed, engine shut off then restarted. Also the engine light came on for awhile then off and is now back on. This is what code scan report says. Engine and Transmission are P0420 Catalyst Efficiency (Bank1), OBDll Codes ($03) is Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1. The Airbag is U0172 Lost Commuication w/Left Side Satellite Accelerator Sensor 1- Stored. The Door Module- Front Right (DMFR) is B16A5 Passenger Window Switch Backlighting Circuit High-Stored. Not sure exactly what these all mean but I think the Power Locks are a safety issue along with the Airbags. The power locks don't lock after driving it like they used to after driving so many feet.

The gear will not shift unless I press the release button. After I took it for a recall in Route 18 Dodge dealer East Brunswick NJ, it came back without been able to shift. I asked the mechanic why my car is no moving, they said you have to press the release button and shift gears at the same. I told them I didn’t bring my car in like this. After I spoke to “Mike” the manager, he said it was a matter of time. I’m scare for my life when driving because now is making all these sounds on the transmission.

REPORTING COMMON PROBLEMS OF 2009 DODGE JOURNEY 2.0CRD 103KW 1.A CAR STARTED SHUTTING OFF WHENEVER IT DRIVES, RUNNING IN PARKING LOT, STOPPED AT RED LIGHT. 2.BATTERY FAILS SUDDENLY, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, JUMPING CABLES CAN'T HELP, BECAUSE A CAR JUST MAKING A CRANKING NOISE UNDER A HOOD. 3. WHEEL AIRBAG IS HAVING SHORT CIRCUITS, SO DUE TO IT SOMETIMES LIGHTS A WARNING IN DASHBOARD. 4. STEERING WHEEL RELAY SHOWS MISUNDERSTOOD DEGREES OF WHEEL ANGLE, SO IT COMES TO ESP BAS ERROR.

THE MECHANIC REFERRED THE CONTACT TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LITHIA CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM FIAT OF SANTA FE (7401 CERRILLOS RD, SANTA FE, NM 87507) WHERE THE DIAGNOSIS CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE MODULE CONTROL SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO BE PERFORMED. THE RESULTS WERE STILL PENDING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. WHILE DRIVING THE ENTIRE BOARD FLASHED AND THEN VEHICLE ENGINE SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROD AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SERVICED EARLIER BY THE DEALER OURISMAN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF BOWIE 2406 CRAIN HWY, BOWIE, MD 20716 (855) 822-3228. THE CONTACT SUSPECTED THE DEALER DID SUBPAR WORK THAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT THE CONTACT DID NOT GET HER VEHICLE BACK UNTIL THE END OF NOVEMBER 2019, THE VEHICLE ISSUE OF STOPPING OCCURRED IN 12/2019. THE ELECTRICAL WIRE IS NOW MESSED UP BC THE AIRBAG LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON & OFF, THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT DOOR CONTROL LOCK TO LOCK THE CAR WILL NOT WORK, NOW ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON & OFF AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED, ALL NEW COMPONENTS, DRIVING THE CAR ON JAN 4TH 2020 & THE ENGINE JUST STOPS ON ME AT TRAFFIC LIGHT.. THIS CAR HAS HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS AFTER PROBLEMS FROM THE 1ST DAY I BOUGHT IT FROM THE SALES AGENT THAT LIED TO ME ABOUT EVERYTHING.. THERE ARE RECALLS ON MY CAR THAT STILL NEVER GOT REPLACED.. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE THERE WAS A POPPING NOISE AND BLACK SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WAS QUICKLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FLAMES WERE EXTINGUISHED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT BUT THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED BY THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURES RECURRED. THE DEALER INSTALLED A NEW STARTER, TRANSMISSION SENSORS, AND PCM MODULE, BUT THE FAILURES RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE JOURNEY. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE WITH THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) FOR YEARS. CURRENTLY, THE PCM MALFUNCTIONED AND THE RPMS REVVED TO 40 MPH WITHOUT ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT WAITED BEFORE RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND REACHED APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE RPMS WOULD REV UP AGAIN. THE DEALER (SMOLICH MOTORS, 1865 NE HWY 20, BEND, OR 97701, (541) 389-1177) STATED THAT THE COOLER LINE WAS LEAKING AND THE TRANSMISSION PAD NEEDED TO BE RESEALED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPAIRED THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH IN THE HIGH SPEED LANE, WITH MODERATE TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR SUDDEN SHUT OFF. THE DASHBOARD WENT BLACK, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE CAR BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE. NOT ONE INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WORKED, I REACHED FOR HAZARD LIGHTS THAT DID NOT RESPOND, THE GAS PEDAL WAS UNRESPONSIVE. THE STEERING WAS SLOW AND HARD TO USE- POWER STEERING WAS NOT AVAILABLE. BRAKES SEEMED SLOW TO RESPOND. I KNOW FOR CERTAIN HAD I COLLIDED WITH ANY ITEM THE AIRBAGS WOULD ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT A DOUBT NOT DEPLOYED. THE CAR HAD SIMPLY DECIDED TO "SHUT OFF", I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL HOPING TO CONTINUE ROLLING FORWARD DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO MUSCLE THE CAR TO SAFETY ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK , AND TURNED THE IGNITION TO THE OFF POSITION. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF CALMING MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER DOWN I RESTARTED THE CAR. IT STARTED, HOWEVER NOW EVERY LIGHT THAT CAN ILLUMINATE ON THE DASH, THE WIPERS, DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS, RADIO, AND DOOR CHIMES IN A 30-40 SECOND REPEATING PATTERN. THE DASHBOARD INDICATES THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL, AND ALL FORMS OF DRIVE AT THE SAME TIME. THE SPEEDOMETER, RPM GAUGE, GAS GAUGE , OIL PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE BOUNCE FROM THE MINIMUM TO THE MAXIMUM DURING THE CYCLE. THE CAR HAS CLEARLY HAD A EXTENSIVE ELECTRICAL FAILURE- THE "MAIN COMPUTER" - AS I DONT KNOW THE EXACT COMPONENT THAT HAS FAILED IS NO LONGER ABLE TO DETERMINE WHATS GOING ON. HAVING THIS TERRIFYING FAILURE WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR CAUSED ME TO GOOGLE THE PROBLEM, IM NOT THE ONLY OWNER THIS IS A REOCCURRING SITUATION FOR MANY OWNERS. DEALER CAN NOT FIND THE ISSUE SINCE NO 'TROUBLE' LIGHT IS ON. I SEE WHAT SEEMS TO BE A SIMILAR ISSUE ON AN INTERNET SEARCH, BUT HAVE NOT FOUND ANY CAUSE. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS AND SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS PAID TO CHRYSLER DEALERS, NOTHING HAS BEEN FOUND AND NOTHING HAS BEEN SUGGESTED. THE STALLING IN TRAFFIC IS VERY TROUBLESOME AS IT MAY CAUSE INJURY TO MY FAMILY. FOR THIS REASON, THE RECOMMENDATION TO DRIVE IT TILL SOMETHING BREAKS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AS IT MAY BE THE OCCUPANTS THAT 'BREAK'! I HAVE ALSO BEEN WAITING FOR ALMOST A YEAR FOR REPAIRS RELATED TO RECALLS THEY ARE UNABLE TO CORRECT SINCE THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. MY VEHICLE ALSO HAS A HISTORY OF THE PANIC ALARM GOING OFF WHEN PUSHING THE UNLOCK BUTTON THE KEYFOB (I'VE MADE SURE THE PANIC WAS NOT HIT BY ACCIDENT - THIS IS NOT OPERATOR ERROR). ONCE THE PANIC ALARM IS SOUNDING THE KEYFOB BECOMES USELESS AND WON'T WORK. I HAVE TO TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE FOB, UNLOCK THE DOOR USING THE KEY, GET IN PUT KEYFOB IN CAR TURN CAR ON, TURN CAR BACK OFF, TAKE KEYFOB OUT OF IGNITION AND CLICK THE UNLOCK AND/OR PANIC BUTTONS TO GET THE ALARM TO SHUT OFF.

VEHICLE WILL STALL WITHOUT WARNING FOR NO APPARENT REASON AT ANY SPEED. ON OCT 3, 2014 I WAS TAKING MY CHILD TO SCHOOL WHEN THE CAR STALLED IN AN INTERSECTION. AFTER THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PROCEEDED TO THE INTERSECTION AND STALLED UPON ENTERING THE INTERSECTION. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND RESTART WITHIN ~10 SECONDS. THIS ISSUE REPEATED ITSELF AT LEAST TWICE WHILE EN ROUTE FROM MY HOME TO A NEARBY SERVICE SHOP (FOLTZ AUTO) WHICH DETERMINED THERE WAS NO ISSUE THE BATTERY OR IGNITION. ON 10/5/14 I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HERITAGE CHRYSLER (21234) AND HAD THE CAR SERVICED FOR TWO REASONS: THE MAIN REASON WAS THE ABOVE ISSUE AND A SECONDARY ISSUE WAS THE MAIN ODOMETER (NOT THE TRIP ODOMETER) AT SOME POINT HAD RESET ITSELF LEAVING A DISPLAY OF AN INCORRECT MILEAGE MUCH LOWER THAN THE ACTUAL MILEAGE. THE DEALER COULD NOT RECREATE THE STALLING ISSUE OR OFFER ANY SOLUTION, BUT NOTED THAT ANOTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUE WAS CAUSING THE ODOMETER TO DISPLAY AN INCORRECT MILEAGE; THE FIX WAS TO REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ASSEMBLY. AFTER HAVING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REPLACED, THE ISSUE DID NOT REOCCUR UNTIL 12/26/2014, WHEN THE CAR STALLED THREE TIMES WITHOUT WARNING AT ~40 MPH, LEAVING THE CAR COMPLETELY "DEAD" EACH TIME, AND ONCE CAUSING THE CAR TO VEER QUICKLY TOWARDS ANOTHER CAR AS I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TURNING THE WHEEL AROUND A SLIGHT CURVE WHEN THE CAR LOCKED UP. THE DAY I PICKED THE CAR UP I CAME ACROSS DOCUMENTATION OF THE EXPANSION TO THE L25. I WAS THEN AGAIN TOLD THE VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL & AN INVESTIGATION WAS BEING DONE AND EVENTUALLY THE VIN WOULD BE IN THE RECALL BUT I COULD NOT BE GIVEN A DATE AS TO WHEN THIS WOULD HAPPEN. THE SECOND INCIDENT HAPPEN AROUND A WEEK AN HALF AFTER THE FIRST ONE AND AFTER THE DEALERSHIP SAY IT WAS FIXED AND SAFE TO DRIVE. TRIED FOR 10 TO 15 MIN AND EVEN TRIED TO JUMP START IT WITH NO LUCK. I PROCEEDED TO GET A RIDE TO WORK, THEN CAME BACK THAT NIGHT AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO A PEP BOYS ( A NATIONAL CHAIN) (DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSED) AND LEFT IT THERE. THEY RAN ELECTRICAL, STARTER AND IGNITION TEST ON IT THE NEXT DAY AND FOUND NO PROBLEM. THEY STARTED OVER 40 TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF THE DAY AND IT STARTED EVERY TIME. NOW IS WORKING, BUT FOR HOW LONG. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND TURNING INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE BACK OF MY CAR AS I LOOKED IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR. ENGINE FAILS TO START. WHEN I TURN ON THE KEY NOTHING HAPPENS. AFTER SEVERAL TURN OF THE KEYS FINALLY THERE IS IGNITION. LAST NIGHT AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME THE CAR DIES OUT AND SHE LOST HYDRALICS, SO THE BRAKES DIDN'T WORK AND SHE IS LUCKY THAT SHE DID NOT CRASH AND KILL HERSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE. I HAVE HAD THE CAR IN FOR CALLIPER AND BRAKE REPLACEMENT FOR BOTH THE FRONT 22,000 MILES AND REAR 28,000. THE IGNITION STARTING PROBLEM 3 TIMES. *JS
