1. Driver headrest was broken while car was in driveway. I found the headrest broken and then reported to nhtsa. org after reading some Dodge forums
Park / Natural switch, from my understanding there is no recall, but I have had some close encounter driving and my car just shuts off, I was told its the park/neutral switch., have to throw it in park foot on the brake try to put it in neutral and throw it back into park and start he engine. ugh.
I bought this used from Rainbow Motor Sales. Ever since I have had trouble with the heating system. I have replaced the heater core. I have had this flushed also. Last winter only the driver side had heat. So far this fall it will blow nothing but cold air.
Headrest busted open and hit my passenger
Follow-up with the article in regards to a possible electrical problems in older Dodge Journey after a woman was trapped and died when her SUV caught fire in December. Issues reported warning lights started flashing, windshield wipers came on, the horn started honking, windows wouldn't go down and the doors wouldn't unlock. Those are of the TIPM that have been reported for years and nothing has been done. I have personal experienced everything that others witnessed with 2009 except for I have not had a fire yet, I have been stuck in my vehicle for times due to window won't go down and doors will not unlock. Horn , lights, wipers, continue to go off I have to pull fuses out all the time just so not to disturb the neighbors as it happens at all hours not just when driving it. It caused a brand new battery to swell up that was caught by a mechanic, the TIPM has been changed 2 times now and still have issues along with the battery was replaced 3 times so far and maybe this is why I have not had a fire because I continue to get a new one. No heat in the front but somewhat heat in the rear back seats have change a lot of things to try to fix but still no heat for the front or second row only the 3rd row
When starting the auto can't put it in reverse or drive. Sometimes can't start car unless I put the key in alternator and place in neutral.
WE PURCHASED OUR 2010 DODGE JOURNEY FROM AN AUCTION. RIGHT AWAY THERE WERE ALL SORTS OF ELECTRONIC ISSUES WITH VARIOUS BELLS & WHISTLES. MOST OF THESE WERE SOLVED ONCE WE PURCHASED A NEW FOB & HAD IT PROGRAMMED. HOWEVER, MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE HORN WILL BLOW WITHOUT TOUCHING THE STEERING WHEEL. IT WILL BLOW WHILE THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF, DOES NOT MATTER. MY HUSBAND HAD TO DISCONNECT THE HORN UNDER THE HOOD IN ORDER TO GET IT TO STOP. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO AN INDEPENDENT SERVICE CENTER AND THE MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND WHY THE HORN WILL NOT STOP BLOWING. I DISCUSSED THIS ISSUE WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INDICATED THE VEHICLE NEEDS AN UPDATE, HOWEVER, AFTER MUCH RESEARCHING ON THE WEB MANY MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE UPDATE COMPLETED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THE HORN ISSUES STARTED AGAIN 2 WEEKS LATER, MANY MUCH SOONER. OUR VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY ANYONE ELSE. ALSO, THERE ARE NO WARNING LAMPS IN REGARDS TO THE HORN THAT HAVE COME ON. WE ARE LOOKING INTO HAVING A SEPARATE HORN INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE, DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE. DODGE NEEDS TO HAVE A RECALL IN REGARDS TO THIS HORN ISSUE THAT COULD COST SOMEONE THEIR LIFE, IT'S QUITE UNBELIEVABLE THEY HAVE NOT DONE SO. I just purchased a 2010 dodge journey. It has not been in an accident. This morning when getting in my car, I noticed the active headrest restraint has been deployed. I was not in an accident. The car with sitting in my driveway overnight.
Drove to the park, parked the car. Went for a walk, came back 20 minutes later, car would not start. Turn the key, no sound, all dash light come one, car will not crank, no sound at all. towed the car to my house, and charged battery for a full day. Car same issue, will not crank, no noise. I turn the key to on, press on the brake and move to neutral, and car still no start. I use the remote starter, and car just clicks a few times and does not start. Basically turning the key to start, lights come on as usual, then no noise no crank no start. this is third day of trying to start this car, never had issues with it for over a year, and never with starting car. No warnings at all, no lights on to show anything bad before this, and no warning after it happened, scanner show no faulty codes detected. From the park waited to be towed and got home after 10 PM, safety, it got dark, it rained and unreliable to just not start.
MY HORN STARTED CHRIPING FOR NO REASON WHILE PARKED AND WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK THE BATTERIES OUT OF BOTH KEY FOBS AND WAS STILL GOING OFF. TRIED LOCKING AND UNLOCKING BOTH WITH AND WITHOUT THE FOB. I HAD TO REMOVE THE HORN FUSE TO GET IT TO STOP. I HAVE SEEN MANY OF THESE VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE.

WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES AN HOUR ON A TURNING ROAD ONTO A HIGHWAY AND VEHICLE SHUT OFF. LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WERE HARD. WHEN PULLED OVER I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART. AFTER THE 2ND TIME TURNING THE KEY IT STARTED. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ARE PRESENT ON THE CAR OTHER THAN A TPMS SENSOR.

AFTER HAVING TO DISCONNECT THE HORN FUSE, THE VEHICLE IS RENDERED UNSAFE TO THE OWNER, PEDESTRIANS, AND OTHER DRIVERS. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES INTERMITTENTLY WITH NO COMMON VARIABLE.

CALLED DODGE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, BUT THEIR RESPONSE IS THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S CAUSING THIS PROBLEM AND THAT APPARENTLY THERE'S NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THIS IS THE VEHICLE MY WIFE USES TO GO TO WORK AND TAKE THE KIDS AROUND. I'VE READ THAT SOME PEOPLE, THEIR VEHICLES, JUST STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET WHILE THEY WERE DRIVING. NOW THE HORNNIS GOING OFF AS WE DRIVE FOR NO REASON. THIS CAR CKEARLY HAS ELECTRICAL ISSUES. ELECTRICAL PARTS KEEP BURNING OUT CAUSING ME TO CHANGE THEM FOR REINSPECTION TIME BY THE STATE.

UPON BETTENHAUSEN REVIEWING MY CAR THEY STATED IT WAS THE HEATER HOSE, A GASKET AND THE ANTI FREEZE BOTTLE HAD A HOLE IN IT. IT COST ME $582.00 FOR THAT REPAIR. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ALSO INFORMED ME THAT I NEEDED FRONT AND REAR MOTOR MOUNTS BROKEN, FRONT AND REAR STRUTS BLOWN OUT, FRONT AND REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WARPED AND WORN, RIGHT REAR WHEELING BEARING EXCESSIVE NOISE. THESE ARE MAJOR REPAIRS AND WILL COST MAJOR MONEY. WHY DIDN'T BETTENHAUSEN INSPECT MY CAR THOROUGHLY IN JUNE WHEN IT WAS TOWED IN? REPLACED BATTERY THINKING IT WAS BATTERY ISSUE. ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS "DEAD" EVERY FEW DAYS. THERE IS A STRANGE DRAG/CLICK SOUND WHEN TURNING WHEEL. MANY OTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUES THAT ARE BIZARRE AND COMPLETELY RANDOM. AT TIMES YOU HAVE TO START, KILL, RESTART ENGINE AND FINALLY WILL GO IN GEAR. I KEEP CHECKING FOR RECALLS AS THIS APPEARS, THROUGH MULTIPLE POSTS I HAVE READ, TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR MODEL. I HAVE BEEN STUCK OUT SO MANY TIMES WITH THIS CAR I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT. I HAD TO TAKE THE HORN FUSE OUT BECAUSE THE NOISE GETS TO MY NEIGHBORS AND NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO STOP IT. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOVING CAUSING A CRASH. THE CAPS ARE PLASTIC AND NOT METAL. I HAVE SEEN FROM THE INTERNET AND HEARD FROM DEALERS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND HAS TO DO WITH CORROSION.

I HAD A MINOR ACCIDENT A FEW DAYS LATER, AND WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN THE DEALER TO REPAIR, I ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE HORN. THEY REPORTED NOTHING AMISS. THE HORN CONTINUED TO INTERNITTENTLY SOUND OFF WHETHER I WAS DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET ALONE OR IN TRAFFIC, BOTH ON SURFACE STREETS AND THE FREEWAYS. WHEN I RECEIVED THE NOTICE FOR THE FOBIK RECALL IN MAY, I MADE THE APPOINTMENT AND TOOK THE CAR IN, AND REMINDED THEM THE HORN GOES OFF; THE SAME DEALER TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE HORN ISSUE AGAIN. THEY ALSO FAILED TO COMPLETE THE RECALL FIX. I MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT TWO WEEKS AGO IN JULY AS THE HORN KEPT SOUNDING OFF ON ITS OWN AND IT IS GETTING WORSE. I ALSO HAD ALL THE REQUIRED MAINTENANCE COMPLETED AT A COST OF OVER $1500, AND WHILE IN THE SERVICE BAY THE CAR HORN SOUNDED OFF. THE SERVICE CREW ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE HORN OVER THREE DAYS BUT FAILED. AS I DROVE THE CAR AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP, THE HORN SOUNDED OFF AGAIN. THEY ALSO DID NOT COMPLETE THE RECALL FIX AGAIN, EVEN AFTER ORDERING THE PARTS NECESSARY. THEY BELIEVE THE HORN ISSUE IS RELATED TO THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE IN THE KEY FOBIK RECALL, AND ARE HOPING THE RECALL FIX WILL ALSO ADDRESS THE HORN ISSUE. MEANWHILE, THE HORN HAS CONTINUED TO ESCALATE AND LAST EVENING WHILE DRIVING HOME IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, THE HORN SOUNDED OFF FOR LONGER PERIODS, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS FOR AS LONG AS NEARLY A MILE ON THE SURFACE STREETS. AS THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL AS A CITABLE OFFENSE, I HAVE MADE YET ANOTHER APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE HORN ISSUE FIXED. THE DEALER HAS NOT RELAYED EXACTLY WHAT STEPS THEY HAVE TAKEN TO CORRECT THIS, OTHER THAN REPLACING THE *SPRING IN THE STEERING COLUMN. I HAVE READ ONLINE A POSSIBLE HORN FIX IS TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG - WHICH HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED IN A RECALL YET.
MADE A LEFT HAND TURN AND SUDDENLY THE AIR CONDITIONER, RADIO, LIGHTS, WINDOWS STOPPED WORKING. DROVE TO A LOT AND PULLED OVER AND EVERYTHING CAME BACK ON. THEN MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AND EVERYTHING SHUT OFF AGAIN. TURNED THE CAR OFF AND EVERYTHING CAME BACK AND HAS WORKED FINE SO FAR. HOWEVER, THE CAR WOULDN'T START EARLIER WHEN TURNED ON. HAD TO START THE CAR 3 TIMES BEFORE IT CAME ON.

THE FIRST TIME THEY WERE REPLACED, THE CAR HAD LESS THAN 36,000 MILES. SINCE THAT TIME THEY HAVE BEEN REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES, WITH THE LAST TIME BEING IN THE LAST 30 DAYS. IT IS LIKE THERE IS SOME TYPE OF DESIGN FLAW IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM, THAT CAUSES THE BRAKES AND TIRES TO BOTH WEAR OUT QUICKLY. LAST NIGHT THE BRAKING SYSTEM CAUGHT FIRE ON THIS VEHICLE, LUCKY I HAD JUST PULLED IN MY PARKING SPOT WHEN THEY STARTED BURNING AND DIDN'T HAVE MY CHILDREN WITH ME. FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOTIFIED AND THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT BY THEM. I HAVE NOTICED THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THE JOURNEY THAT HAS HAD BRAKE AND TIRE ISSUES. NOW I AM STUCK WITHOUT ANY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION THANKS TO THE BRAKES CATCHING FIRE (WARPING RIMS AND MELTED TIRES FROM IT). THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS INJURED.

I HAVE NOT BE NOTIFIED AS OF TODAY (ALMOST 2 MONTHS) TO INFORM THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. I DRIVE 100 MILES / DAY AND AM AFRAID THIS ISSUE COULD EXPOSE ITSELF AND LEAD TO AN INCIDENT.
