The contact owns a 2016 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, or while the vehicle was idling while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle made a chugging and choking sound. The vehicle hesitated before accelerating as needed. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent at first but had become a constant failure. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that an inspection was completed, and the vehicle failed the Emissions test due to DTC: P40; for the catalytic converter and Oxygen sensor. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 97,000.

While driving the car, car stalled and began displaying the lightning bolt icon on the cluster. The power steering stopped working and the brake was very stiff and hard to depress. I pulled off the road and waited a few minutes and started the car again. The idle was very rough, icon was still displayed on the cluster, and car began jerking and stalled again. I had the vehicle towed to the house and began looking into the issue. Error codes read on the car was P0365: Camshaft Position Sensor “B” Circuit, and the red lightning bolt indicating an issue with the electronic throttle body. The battery was taken out and tested bad so it was replaced. The throttle body was cleaned and tested good. When I tried to start the car after the codes were cleared, the vehicle attempted to start but wasn't able to turn over fully. The P0365 code returned. I then had a mechanic come check out the car to see if he could do anything to help. He determined that the valves in the engine were bent and the cars timing was off. With all of this being said, This issue I am complaining about is the P0365 Camshaft sensor code. There was a recall for the camshaft sensors in some 2016 Dodge Journeys but my VIN did not fall in that range. When I called FCA, I was told there was nothing to be done because my VIN wasn't included in the recall. A bad camshaft sensor would cause all of the issues that I am experiencing with the car. If the sensor is bad or doesn't perform as it should, it could effect the overall timing of the engine's firing sequence, causing stalling, failure to start, and damage to the engine, like in my case with the bent valves. This incident posed a severe safety risk to myself and the other drivers around me due to the loss of power steering and partial loss of braking ability. Luckily this incident did not occur on the interstate or major highway, where there are speeds in excess of 55 mph.

While I was driving, my car unexpectedly lost power and the engine shut off while I was making a left hand turn. There was no warning. The steering wheel became very hard to maneuver and the car coasted through the turn. I was almost hit by incoming Traffic. Once the car came to a complete stop, I was able to put it in park and restart it after attempting twice. The first time, it sputtered. It has not been confirmed by a dealer and it has not been inspected by anyone. There were no warning lights prior to it shutting off. The radio never stopped working on either. I’m having the same issues as other Dodge journeys from earlier models that had the recall on the engine for the Rocker arms, lifters, and camshaft. Almost causing me to have an accident inside the highway due to my car, reducing speed from 65 To 15 mph on the expressway as well my vehicle Starting to shake very badly. Second issue is The same problem with earlier models, using the same engine and transmission recall, I’m having the same issues, and unfortunately, my car states that has no open recalls when my car has the same engine and transmission then the earlier model with the recall As I was reading on the web, they are some 2016 Dodge journeys with the same issues as earlier models that are not recalled as of yet

I was driving my vehicle and the engine light came on with cruise control one time and abs brake lighta another time. When I got it checked by a mechanic, I was told it was clamshaft and crankshaft and that it was under a recall for my specific make and model and to take it to Dodge dealership. I did so and they ean a diagnostic test that tevealed exactly what I told them the mechanic told me and that it was not under recall and would be $2900 to fix. I argued that there is a recall for my specific make and model for the exact issue and was told to call Chrysler. I called and spoke with them and was told my vin doesn't pop up for thr recall even though my same year, make and model is having the same specific issue and that there was nothing they can do. I drive my vehicle to take my son to school and go to work as a nurse, caring for others. I was told that my vehicle may power off in the middle of driving because of the faulty sensor, potentially causing harm to myself, my loved ones and others on the road for an issue that my same make, model and year vehicle has a recall for that my vin number doesn't come up for.

Vehicle started stalling repeatedly for brief moments, cruise control began to "stick" on. Vehicle does not "die" in these instances but all electrical components shut down for a very brief moment then come back on. This happens frequently and for no apparent reason associated with road/driving conditions. Cruise control also wouldn't turn off when problems started. Haven't tried to use cruise control since first instance for fear of safety.

CRANKSHAFT SENSOR FAILURE - CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

Engine oil filter housing made of cheap plastic. Sitting under the intake in the V part of the engine between the cylinder heads. PLASTIC housing with hot oil trapped in the middle of the engine. Dries out the seals and causes housing to crack. Well known issue, all aftermarket housings are made of aluminum because of this. Due to location oil leaks into that V area and pools continuously. After driving around a corner large amounts slosh over and down the back of the trans and onto the exhaust and on the drivers side wheels. Well known fault costing consumers at least $500 to repair a faulty part due to no recall. Please make them do a recall this can start a fire or cause crashes from oil getting on the tires.

My car Intermittent just shuts down while driving on the road without warning and has done so 4 times now with my family in it as this is the family car. Thank God no one has been hurt or any accidents at this time. When it shuts down you loose control of the vehicle and the steering wheel locks and unable to move safely off the road you have to stop in the middle of traffic and put it in neutral and get out and push it off the road! I have had it sent to two shops to find the problem and they both come up with the Crank Shaft Sensor the first one replaced and the problem still happens! So the 2nd shop a Dodge dealership has diagnosed the same problem but then they say the Recall S89 is the problem with my vehicle but because My vehicle was made 6 months before the start of the recall they say I have to fix the problem out of pocket and I refuse to do it! If there is a known problem and a fix for it on a recall then the recall date should be changed to include older models with the same issues. Thank you for any and all assistance in this matter.

Additionally, the vehicle shuddered and hesitated while responding upon depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while starting the vehicle and driving from a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was low compression in cylinder #2, and the long block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. My abs, traction control, and my AWD service light all have been on making my car jump before I can accelerate and it then drives fine but today it would not allow me to go over 15MPH and all I could hear was grinding noises! This was the first time that has happened, I’ve replaced the wheel sensors, bearings, and all new tires it turned off for a couple months but now is back on! This is a huge hazard, I have 3 kids that were with me when the new incident happened and had to put my hazards on to make it into a gas station parking lot, this needs a recall on all senors, abs, cruise control, electrical, transmission. List goes on. What is it going to take for them to see many people have been complaining of the same issues at hand?? Is it going to take a serious or critical accident?? It should not have to get that far, I’ve complained a couple years ago and no one ever contacted about these issues. I just want my car safe for my kids! Please I beg of you to do something about these issues!

Front blowers blow hot air when A/C is turned on, defrost won’t work in winter, the backup camera keeps going black and glitching when in reverse, my abs, traction control, and AWD service keeps coming on, I have changed both front wheel sensors, wheel-barrings, brakes, and all new tires. It helped for a month no lights on and it drove amazing no issues and one day it started again and when I try to accelerate you can feel it not want to go, I hear a grind noise and then the car will jump super hard then the AWD service will kick on and traction control turns off and it will drive fine again. I have 3 kids and do not feel safe anymore driving my car! Im shocked there isn’t a recall on any of these issues considering there have and still are a lot of complaints on the same issues I’m having. Also cruise control won’t work. I seen it was recalled but previous owner had taken it in and got it replaced but it definitely is bad again. I know these issues can not be good on my car’s transmission or engine! Please help me! I’ve filed a complaint before and heard from no one.

I was driving on the highway and my car started to jerk when I accelerated and hit the brakes. I pulled over to see what was wrong with the car. It hesitated to start back up and when it did it stalled. My ESC light came on and my engine light came on before I pulled over. I was stuck on the side of a busy highway with a car that almost caused an accident when it jerked. Took the car to AutoZone for a diagnostics check and got 3 error codes, P0344, P0128, and C121C-00. Was informed that there are similar issues being reported about cars of the same year, make, and model that was not included in a 2016-2017 recall and that there is an open investigation referring to the camshaft sensor being intermittent (Code P0344). There was no other warning lights on the dashboard. All the lights came on at the same time.

one week ago or so, I was driving, then I notice the needle grade was moving back and forth, car stared to give me beeps sounds if it was over heating. then the engine light came on and is still on, a recall on cam shaft S89 was done 2017. I have no knowledge of this getting done, there got to be some type of shortage going on, because when i drive the car stalls and feels like a stick shift. CAM ECM SENSOR, I was told by my register mechanic. when he tested it for me it it showed that its a shortage in the wire cam going to the ecm sensor. my car has 42,000 miles on it. I'm not a every day driver., since this pandemic. i paid off my car 2018 or 2019 and she is 6 years old. I strongly feel like this gotta be a manufacturing defect. Dealers wanna charge me $265 dollars to do a diagnostic. which I feel like what the hell. So I'm asking for some clarity in 6years doge cars act up like this. Ihave always brought my cars from dodge and drove it over 18years with never a mess like this. I'm a old lady looking for real honest answers. Other then well its time to buy another car

Car would not start so I thought it was the battery so I called a tow truck and they jumped my car. I had my car jumped and went to drive it to the local Pep Boys to have my battery checked out and my car would not accelerate above 15 MPH and the engine kept hesitating every time I was trying to stop the car or at a stop light. After reading all the other complaints on this website about the same type of issues with 2016 Dodge Journeys they need to be recalled and the engines fixed.

When driving the car will go into limp mode with no warning. When the car shuts off I have no control of steering wheel and brakes. Thus cam shaft was replaced but the issue now persists. Now the engine is stalling and caused the steering hose to bust and head gasket is blown.

The engine/powertrain occasionally does not accelerate on the freeway causing us to backup traffic. This happens randomly and will eventually cause a major accident. I have contacted dodge but they want me to leave my car for 6 weeks with no loaner I am a single mother that is not possible. The car is under bumper to bumper coverage but they still wont fix the issue! Also my heated seats are stuck on high and often smell like they are going to catch fire! Again dodge wont help!

I was driving on the highway and the RPM’s started going up and down like crazy and it wouldn’t excel past 25. This happened for two miles and then I stopped at a stop light, when it turned green, I went to go and it would only reverse. Even when in drive. I had to turn the car off and back on to slowly get over to the side of the road.

While driving my 2016 Journey in Raleigh, N.C. the vehicle was working fine until I came to a stop sign and it stalled. I was able to start it up and luckily no vehicle was behind me the first time it occurred. In Raleigh it did this again at a red light but because the vehicle behind me was still at a stop and I was aware from the time before I quickly restarted and drove with little fanfare. The Journey would drive fine, but when stopping at a sign or light or stopping in general the vehicle will stall. It buckle and then stalls as well. I was able to get home from Raleigh to Raeford NC because of driving on the highway. However, upon arriving in local roads in Raeford and having to stop at the lights, the Journey stalled at every light. I was able to start it up and drive a few times, and a few other times it would stall on first, or second try then work on next. It once stalled and took multiple times (more than 3) restarting before I was able to get it driving. At home I was able to get the vehicle safely into the driveway and upon starting it while in park it would idle normally and not shut off. I then put it in reverse to back up and it immediately started to buckle and then stalled. Put in in park and start the engine again and it would idle, went to drive and it stalled again. Restarted it in park and went to neutral and it would idle, but try to go to drive or reverse and it would start to buckle as if to shut off. Back in neutral or park and again it idles. It will role in neutral if I release the brakes too. Put it in drive or reverse and it stalls and shut off. Now I am unable to even get it out of my driveway. So I will have it towed to the dealership.

DRIVING THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY, IT STARTED TO SLOW DOWN; THE VEHICLE STOPPED AND DID NOT MOVE. MY CHILDREN AND I SCARED BUT THANK GOD HELP CAME. THE LIGHTS ON THE CAR TURNED ON, INDICATING SOMETHING WAS WRONG.I COULDN'T READ THE SIGN OR UNDERSTAND WHAT WENT WRONG. THE CAR WILL NOT STAY ON. IT SHUT OFF, AND THE CODE INDICATED THE CYLINDER IS NOT WORKING. I REPORTED IT AND TOWED THE DODGE DEALERSHIP VEHICLE BECAUSE THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID IT WOULD BE COVERED BECAUSE IT'S A RECALL. MY CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP. MORE THAN TWO MONTHS AND NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHY THE CAR WON'T WORK.

ADDITIONALLY, WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE SEVERAL LIGHTS LOCATED ON THE REAR LIFTGATE WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE OR WAS VERY DIM DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE TAIL GATE WIRING HARNESS. THE BRAKE LIGHTS, TAG LIGHTS AND SIGNAL LIGHTS WERE AFFECTED BY THE ELECTRICAL SHORT. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES BUT, NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND AN ISSUE. NO ERROR CODES AND WOULD NOT CUT OFF ON THEM AS IT DID ME. I STILL HAD THEM REPLACE THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AS THE TECHNICIAN SAID THAT IS USUALLY THE ISSUE WHEN A CAR CUTS OFF DURING DRIVING.

MY 2016 DODGE JOURNEY EXPERIENCED A CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR "A" CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (OBD CODE P0335) WHILE I WAS DRIVING, RESULTING IN AN ENGINE STALL AND TOTAL LOSS OF POWER. NEARLY RESULTED IN A CRASH. I'VE SINCE OBSERVED FROM OTHER DRIVERS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON FAILURE ON THE DODGE JOURNEY, AND A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM (SAFETY RECALL S89 / NHTSA 16V-907) WAS ISSUED IN FEBRUARY 2017, BUT APPLIES ONLY TO A LIMITED NUMBER OF VEHICLES BUILT FROM MAY TO JULY 2016. BASED ON MY OWN EXPERIENCE AND THAT OF OTHER OWNERS AS REPORTED ONLINE, I BELIEVE THE ISSUE IS MORE WIDESPREAD THAN THE NHTSA APPARENTLY BELIEVES, AND I SUGGEST THAT THE EXISTING RECALL BE EXPANDED CONSIDERABLY.

AT THE END OF JAN/BEGINNING OF FEB I CONTACTED DODGE CARES WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISSUE AND MY CAR WAS JUST AT WARRANTY OF THE THAT 30 MILES FROM WARRANTY AND WANTED THEM TO GIVE AN EXTENSION BECAUSE AS SOON AS THE LIGHT CAME ON I COULD NOT GET TO THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE A 2016 DODGE JOURNEY AND HAVE LONG COMMUTES. I WAS ABLE TO HAVE A MOBILE MECHANIC DIAGNOSE FOR ME. DODGE WAS UNHELPFUL AND WOULD ONLY TAKE THEIR DEALERSHIPS DIAGNOSTIC. THEN 6 WEEKS LATER IT COMES OUT THAT DODGE 2016 JOURNEYS ARE HAVING CATALYTIC ISSUES BUT MINE WILL NOT ANYTHING MAILED OUT IF AFFECTED UNTIL Q4 OF 2019 AND DODGE IS ALSO TELLING ME AT THIS POINT MY CAR WHICH IS A V4 DODGE 2016 WITH CATALYTIC FAILURE AT THE MILEAGE I TOLD THEM IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I WAS DRIVING MY 2016 DODGE JOURNEY CROSSROAD AND THE ABS LIGHTS CAME ON AND THEN I FELT MY CAR JERK LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL. I TRIED TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY AND MY CAR STALLED OUT. I DIDN'T HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT UNTIL IT WAS 2 YEARS OLD. FOR THE FIRST YEAR, I EVEN COMMUTED TO WORK 3 HOURS DAILY. NOW, I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT 3 MILES. THE ENGINE WILL SIMPLY TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING. WE RESEARCHED IT ONLINE AND FOUND IT WAS MOST LIKELY A CAMSHAFT OR CRANKSHAFT SENSOR ISSUE. EVEN AFTER HAVING BOTH SENSORS REPLACED, THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED. MECHANICS ARE AT A LOSS BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. SOMETIMES, I CAN DRIVE IT A FEW DAYS IN A ROW WITHOUT ANY ISSUE. I SIMPLY CANNOT BELIEVE THAT MY PARTICULAR VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL TO REPLACE THE SENSORS AND THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE NO SOLUTION TO THIS DANGEROUS VEHICLE. GOT IN AND PRESSED ON THE BRAKES, PUSHED START BUTTON AND VEHICLE STARTED. DID NOT DRIVE IT AT THAT TIME. BARELY 2 HOURS LATER I STARTED THE VEHICLE TOO DRIVE TO WORK. LET IT WARM UP FOR ABOUT 3 MINUTES, THEN TOOK CITY STREETS. ABOUT 1 MILE INTO THE DRIVE I STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT. VEHICLE AGAIN LOST ALL POWER, NO LIGHTS ON COMPONENTS, NOTHING. HAD A VEHICLE COMING UP BEHIND ME SO QUICKLY PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. OIL INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. LOOKED AT VEHICLE INFO AND TEMPS WERE ALL WITHIN MID-RANGE. GOT TO WORK (APPROXIMATELY 1 MORE MILE AWAY) AND TURNED VEHICLE OFF. I HAVE STARTED IT ON EACH BREAK (EVERY 2-3 HOURS) AND NONE OIL LIGHT IS ON AND NO OTHER ISSUES HAVE OCCURRED. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE ON JANUARY 5TH, HAVE DRIVEN IT PRACTICALLY EVERY DAY, PUT ALMOST 400 MILES ON IT (NOW AT 14,807) AND NO ISSUES UNTIL TODAY. I WAS DRIVING 65 MPH IN A MIDDLE LANE ON THE FREEWAY WHEN MY ENGINE SUDDENLY STALLED OUT. I LOST THE ABILITY TO STEER OR BRAKE, AND MY VEHICLE QUICKLY LOST SPEED. I BARELY MANAGED TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY BEFORE IT COMPLETELY STOPPED. I CALLED MY HUSBAND TO COME GET ME, AND HE MANAGED TO RESTART IT AND DROVE IT HOME WHILE I FOLLOWED IN OUR TRUCK. ABOUT 5 MILES DOWN THE ROAD, THE ENGINE STALLED OUT ON HIM. WE TOOK IT TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP, AND THE MECHANIC WHO TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE FREAKED OUT WHEN THE PROBLEM HAPPENED TO HIM WITH MY HUSBAND IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. HOWEVER, THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND REFUSE REPLACE ANY OF THE RECALLED PARTS FROM 2016 DODGE JOURNEY'S RELATING TO THE ENGINE STALLING OUT BECAUSE THEY INSIST MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED A COUPLES OF WEEKS BEFORE THE RECALL GOES INTO EFFECT. MY CONCERN IS FOR MY THREE TODDLERS WHO WERE SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT AND NEARLY GOT KILLED. I HAVE CALLED DODGE REPEATEDLY ABOUT THIS, BUT THEY HAVEN'T FIXED IT YET OR GIVEN ME A REASON WHY MY ONE YEAR OLD CAR IS SO DANGEROUS.

WIFE WAS BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND ENGINE STOPPED / STALLED AS SHE ENTERED THE ROAD AND STARTED TO TURN WHILE BACKING. RADIO AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WERE WORKING. HAD TO PUSH STARTER BUTTON TO OFF SO I COULD START IT AGAIN. ATTEMPTING TO START IT ALREADY IN THE RUN POSITION FAILED WITH AN ERROR I DON'T REMEMBER AND DID NOT WRITE IT DOWN AT THE TIME AS SHE WOKE ME UP TO TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED AND I WENT OUT TO DRIVEWAY AND CHECK. WITHIN SECONDS I PUSH BUTTON STARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT STARTED UP NORMALLY.

"TAKATA RECALL" ON 4 OR MORE OCCASIONS MY VEHICLE HAS SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. THIS NORMALLY OCCURS WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR AFTER TAPPING THE BRAKE. THE FIRST TIME WAS ABOUT 2 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AFTER LEAVING WORK AND STOPPING AT A STOP LIGHT. IT HAS DIED WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO TAKE A CURVE AND ALSO ON A BUSY HIGHWAY OUT OF TOWN TAPPING BRAKES IN HEAVY TRAFFIC GOING ABOUT 50MPH AND ALMOST GETTING REAR ENDED. EACH TIME I WOULD HAVE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTART THE VEHICLE.

I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SPENT 3 FULL DAYS DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM. THEY FOUND NOTHING. I LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE SIMILIAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VEHICLE. AND THE SAME THING IS SAID OVER AND OVER AGAIN.........NOTHING IS KNOWN ABOUT THE PROBLEM THUS NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT THE PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING MY BRAND NEW DODGE JOURNEY JUST PURCHASED ALMOST 2 MONTHS AGO, THE ENGINE STALLS OUT SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES NOW, WITH THE LAST TIME BEING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY ALMOST CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT. THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKES LOCK AND CAR JUST COASTS TO A STOP.
