The vehicle stalled during normal use traveling about 35 miles an hour right after an intersection. MY husband was able to safely make it off the road as we live in a small town he did this by feathering the accelerator pedal. He is a mechanic so he was able to get it home by lightly tapping the pedal. If he pressed the pedal too hard the car stalled without warning so he lightly tapped on it and made it 2 blocks to our home where it has set in the driveway ever since. We spent over $1000 replacing parts such as the throttle body and the fuel pump and sending unit, egr, pcv, crankshaft sensor, plugs,injectors, intake seals, air intake temperature sensor and throttle body which include the throttle position sensor. Before we went for the cam sensor I decided to look up the issue and found so many with the same problem as us. We are veterans on a semi fixed income with a 10 month old daughter and this is our only vehicle we live in a super hot place in northern Arizona and can not afford further repairs as every part seems to be quite expensive. I don't have the fear of it dying while transporting my daughter again as it won't even stay started since the first incident. Additionally there are no codes or dash indicator lights staying on. We will be contacting Dodge in Kingman Arizona today.

When vehicle has been filled up with gas it will intermittently die until it has around 50 miles on it. Usually sputters and dies without warning leaving you with no steering or brakes. Will restart but die until some fuel is ran out. I have scheduled to have the gas tank replaced but the fee is around $150

I HAVE A 2005 DODGE MAGNUM AND I WENT INTO THE CLEANERS TO DROP MY CLOTHES OFF. I WENT IN THE CLEANERS AND CAME OUT AND ATTEMPTED TO START MY CAR AND IT WOULDN'T START. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED IT WAS MY ENGINE WAS OUT. I THINK ITS THE TIMING CHAIN. I SEEN RECALLS FOR MY ENGINE BUT THEY STATE ITS FOR THE NEWER VERSION OF THE HEMI BUT I THINK ITS ALL THE SAME RECALL. I HAVE A 2005 DODGE MAGNUM THAT I TAKE EXTREMELY GOOD CARE OF. MY CAR HAS HAD ALL OF IT'S REGULAR MAINTENANCE. A MONTH AGO I STOPPED AT THE LUBE SHOP TO HAVE THE FLUIDS AND AIR PRESSURE CHECKED ON MY CAR BEFORE I HEADED OUT OF TOWN. THE ONLY FLUID THAT WAS TOPPED OFF WAS MY WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID. WHEN I TRIED TO START MY CAR TO LEAVE, IT WOULD NOT START. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO DODGE. TWO DAYS LATER I WAS INFORMED BY MY SERVICE WRITER THAT I NEEDED A NEW MOTOR. DODGE TOLD ME THAT I DROPPED A #4 VALVE SEAT. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS "REALLY, REALLY, REALLY RARE" AND THAT ONLY ABOUT "1 IN A BILLION" THIS HAPPENS TO. I AM CRUSHED. I WENT HOME AND HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE IN DEPTH. THIS IS NOT RARE LIKE DODGE CLAIMS. I HAVE COME ACROSS 100'S OF OTHER DODGE OWNERS WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WHO ARE NOW LEFT HOLDING THE BAG. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. MOST OF THE VEHICLES THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ARE ALREADY OUT OF WARRANTY. DODGE IS AWARE OF THE FAULTY VALVE SEATS THAT ARE BASICALLY (FOR LACK OF A BETTER TERM) GLUED IN. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING THIS IS GOING TO OCCUR. MY CAR NEVER GOT HOT, NEVER SMOKED, NEVER BURNED OIL, NEVER HESITATED, NEVER RAN ROUGH; IT ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN A CAR IS BEING STARTED AND THAT IS WHY IT HASN'T BEEN RECALLED, BECAUSE IT IS NOT CONSIDERED A "SAFETY" ISSUE. INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, THE NEW MODELS HAVE THE VALVE SEATS PRESSED AND PINNED IN SO THIS ISSUE DOESN'T CONTINUE TO OCCUR. RECOGNIZING THAT THERE WAS A FLAW IN THE HEMI MOTOR AND RE-ENGINEERING IT TO FIX THE ISSUE IS ADMITTING THERE WAS A DEFECT. DODGE NEEDS TO RECALL THE 2005-2007 HEMI MOTORS AND ADDRESS THE DROPPING VALVE SEATS. THIS IS NOT FAIR AND DODGE KNOWS IT.

ON MAY 2, 1016 I TOOK MY CAR TO THE LUBE SHOP TO HAVE MY FLUIDS TOPPED OFF AND MY AIR PRESSURE CHECKED BEFORE I LEFT TOWN. I DROVE MY CAR IN AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED OUT. AFTER LOOKING AT MY VEHICLE, DODGE TOLD ME I HAVE A BLOWN VALVE SEAT. MY CAR PURRED LIKE A KITTEN. IT NEVER OVERHEATED, DIDN'T BURN OIL, NEVER SMOKED, DIDN'T MAKE ANY KNOCKING NOISES...NOTHING. THERE WAS NO WARNING! THE SERVICE MANAGER LOOKED ME SQUARE IN THE FACE AND LIED TO ME SAYING, THIS PROBLEM IS "REALLY, REALLY, REALLY RARE" BUT THAT I WAS BASICALLY SCREWED SINCE MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ALL WEEK AND HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS ISSUE IS NOT RARE AND DODGE IS FULLY AWARE OF THE DEFECT IN THE VALVE SEAT. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS. SO YOU BUY A CAR AND EXPECT THAT SINCE YOU KEEP IT WELL MAINTAINED WITH ALL MAINTENANCE ROUTINELY DONE AND IT DOESN'T MATTER...IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE...CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WHEN DODGE TOLD ME THIS WAS "REALLY, REALLY, REALLY RARE" THEY ADMITTED TO BEING AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DESIGN FLAW IN THE HEMI WITH THE VALVE SEATS DROPPING. I PLAN ON STARTING A PETITION THAT WOULD CAUSE DODGE TO HAVE TO INITIATE A RECALL ON THIS DEFECTIVE MOTOR. THIS IS NOT FAIR. I HAD MY CAR AT DODGE LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO FOR A HEMI TUNE-UP AND WHEN I ASKED THE MECHANIC IF HE SAW ANY FOREWARNING OF THIS HE SAID ABSOLUTELY NOT. THIS CAR WAS SO PERFECTLY MAINTAINED THAT AFTER I HAD IT THERE FOR SERVICE, THE SALES DEPARTMENT CALLED ME TWO DIFFERENT TIMES ASKING IF I WANTED TO SELL MY CAR TO THEM. I AM GOING TO GET SATISFACTION FOR THIS FAILURE ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

NOW DODGE HAS MY CAR AND THEY REPLACE A SOLENOID-THROTTLE BODY , I PAY THEM $476.00 AFTER TELLING THEM THE HOLE STORY THEY STILL REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. GUESS WHAT THE NEXT MORNING I HAVE MY CAR TOWED BACK TO DODGE DEALERSHIP, DOING THE SAME THING.... I FOUND NHTSA COMMENT IN ITS SUMMARY OF THE CLOSED INVESTIGATION. "THE CONDITION REPRESENTS A LOW RISK TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY AND IS ADEQUATELY ADDRESSED BY CHRYSLER'S EXTENDED WARRANTY." I TOOK IT TO DODGE TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT, THEIR RESPONSE WAS YEP TYPICAL 3.5 L MOTOR. THEY SAID THAT IS I PURCHASE THE PARTS THEY WILL INSTALL AT DISCOUNTED RATE. THE PARTS ARE $345.00 PER SIDE. SO NEARLY $1500.00 TO GET THIS FIXED THAT SHOULD BE FIXED UNDER A RECALL STATUS. DOING INTERNET RESEARCH, TALKING TO OTHER OWNERS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE WE ARE ALL IN AGREEMENT. THE CONSUMER IS GETTING THE SHAFT ON THIS ONE. WHAT IS HAPPENING IS THE BRACKET THAT MOUNTS TO THE CYLINDER AND IS LINED UP INTO PLACE VIA A STEEL DOWEL PIN, THE PIN IS SHEARING OFF FORCING THE ROCKER ARM SHAFT TO ROTATE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE OIL GALLEYS THAT ARE SUPPOSE TO LUBRICATE THE TOP END OF THE ENGINE IS NOT GETTING THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF OIL. THIS CAUSES THE ROCKERS TO GET OUT OF ALIGNMENT, CAUSES EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE SHAFT HOLDING THE ARMS, AND THEN JUST WIPES OUT THE TOP END. AFTER FILLING UP THE TANK WITH REGULAR 87 OCTANE AND TRAVELING LESS THAN A MILE THE VEHICLE STALLED. I REALIZED AFTER SEVERAL FILL UPS THERE MUST BE A CORRELATION SO I TOOK MY 2005 V8 MAGNUM INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT IT WOULD COST BETWEEN 1,500 TO 2 GRAND TO EVALUATE AND FIX THE PROBLEM WHICH THEY THOUGHT HAD TO DO WITH THE FUEL TANK. SINCE I COULD NOT AFFORD THE REPAIR COST THE ONLY REMEDY WAS TO STOP SHORT OF FILLING UP THE TANK. NO STALLS OCCURRED IF I WOULD FILL UP THE TANK 3/4. THIS WENT ON FOR SEVERAL YEARS UNTIL ONE DAY I WAS DISTRACTED AND FILLED THE TANK UP 100%. IT DID NOT STALL AT LOW SPEEDS BUT WHEN I GOT ON THE HIGHWAY STALLED AT 55 LEAVING ME IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION (NOT HAVING CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL). FORTUNATELY I WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO MANIPULATE THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. IF I FILL MY TANK AND I DRIVE IT AWAY FROM THE PUMP, IT WILL STUTTER, HESITATE, JERK, THEN DIE. I LOSE ALL POWER STEERING, BRAKES, ENGINE. AFTERWARDS, IT WON'T IMMEDIATELY RESTART. IT WILL START AGAIN AFTER A FEW MINUTES. IT WON'T START DRIVING GOOD AGAIN UNTIL I RUN THE GAS LEVEL DOWN A LITTLE. AFTER I FILL, IT WILL RUN OK UNTIL I MAKE A TURN OR COME TO A STOP, SOMETHING THAT WILL SLOSH THE FUEL IN THE TANK AGAIN THEN IT WILL ACT LIKE IT IS STARVED FOR FUEL. RUNNING LOW ON GAS ON JANUARY 15TH I STOPPED AT A GAS STATION TO REFUEL. I PURCHASED 91 OCTANE, PLACED THE NOZZLE IN THE GAS TANK TUBE AND BEGAN TO REFUEL. ONCE THE PUMP CLICKED I REPLACED THE GAS NOZZLE, TIGHTENED THE GAS CAP, STARTED THE CAR AND DROVE OFF. LESS THAN TWO MINUTES LATER AS I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF AND THE OIL LIGHT COMES ON. I QUICKLY PLACED THE GEAR IN PARK, AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE. AFTER TRYING THREE TIMES IT FINALLY TURNS OVER AND I AM ABLE TO DRIVE OFF. ONE MINUTE LATER IT SHUTS OFF AGAIN AS I AM BEGINNING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN INTO A DRIVEWAY. SAME SCENARIO AS BEFORE. NOW EVERY TIME I FILL THE TANK TO THE POINT WHERE THE GAS NOZZLE CLICKS THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF MULTIPLE TIMES WITHIN THE FIRST 10 MILES OF DRIVING. *TR

CAN SOMETIMES STALL WHEN MAKING RIGHT/LEFT TURNS OR U-TURNS AT INTERSECTIONS. I'VE LEARNED TO ONLY FILL UP TO HALF A TANK, BUT ISSUES STILL OCCUR. THE VEHICLE ALWAYS STALLS WHEN GOING UP A RAMP IN A MULTIPLE STORY PARKING GARAGE. WHEN GOING UP THE RAMP, JUST AS THE CAR BEGINS TO GET LEVEL WITH THE FLOOR AT THE TOP OF THE RAMP, THE VEHICLE STALLS JUST ABOUT EVERY TIME. SEEMS LIKE A GAS TANK FUEL PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND THAT A SAFETY FEATURE BUILT INTO THE VEHICLE TURNS THE ENGINE OFF IN THE EVENT OF FUEL DETECTION IN AN AREA OF THE GAS TANK WHERE NO GAS SHOULD BE. MOST LIKELY IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT LEADING TO ROLL OVER OF THE VEHICLE. THIS APPEARS TO BE MALFUNCTIONING. POSSIBLE FLAW IN THE DESIGN. CHRYSLER/DODGE NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED BECAUSE THEIR VEHICLE STALLED WHILE MAKING A SIMPLE U-TURN OR WHILE DRIVING HIGH SPEEDS ON A HIGHWAY. WENT OUT TO START THE CAR ON 11/7/13 AND COULD NOT GET THE SHIFT OUT OF PARK. CALLED THE DODGE DEALER AND HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG. CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND THE OWNER SAID THAT HE ALSO KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG AND THAT HIS SMALL TOWING SERVICE HAD TOWED HUNDREDS OF CHRYSLER / DODGE CARS WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. I CHECKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MY PROBLEM - CANNOT GET OUT OF PARK. I ALSO CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY KNEW OF THE PROBLEM, BUT THAT MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED - ONLY CERTAIN VIN'S ARE COVERED. IF THERE ARE 100'S OF CARS JUST IN MY SMALL LOCATION, THERE MUST BE 1000'S, IF NOT TENS OF THOUSANDS AFFECTED VEHICLES NATION WIDE. I WILL ALSO MENTION THAT THE MANUAL OVERRIDE FOR THE SHIFTER DID NOT WORK, SO MY CAR HAD TO BE DRAGGED ONTO THE TOW TRUCK. I FEEL THAT THIS IS NOT ONLY A COSTLY PROBLEM FOR CAR OWNERS, BUT A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL. WHAT IF YOU PUT THE CAR IN PARK WHILE YOU WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND THEN COULD NOT MOVE? WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR SHUTS DOWN. THIS FIRST OCCURRED AT A RED LIGHT. THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY AND I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE KEY AND RESTART IT WITHOUT PROBLEMS. THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE AT A STOP, WHILE DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS, WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS, IN TOWN DRIVING, HIGHWAY DRIVING, WHEN IT'S HOT OUTSIDE, WHEN IT'S COOL OUTSIDE, WHEN IDLING. THERE ARE NO DASHBOARD LIGHTS (ENGINE, OIL, ETC). THERE ARE NO SOUNDS, NO SHUDDERING, NO KICKING. MY ONLY INDICATION THAT THE CAR HAS SUDDENLY TURNED OFF IS THAT THE TACH NEEDLE GOES IMMEDIATELY TO ZERO. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO USE THE MOMENTUM OF THE VEHICLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AT WHICH TIME I TURN THE KEY TO OFF, WAIT A MOMENT, AND TURN IT BACK ON. IT RESTARTS WITHOUT PROBLEMS. THE FAILURE RECURRED FORTY TIMES OVER SEVERAL YEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND WOULD MOSTLY RECUR AFTER THE CONTACT REFUELED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.

I OWN A 2005 DODGE MAGNUM R/T WITH THE 5.7L HEMI. I WAS DRIVING FROM UTAH TO MISSOURI FOR WORK. ONCE I GOT TO LINCOLN, NEBRASKA IT WAS RAINING AND OUT OF NO WHERE MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH AND MY ENGINE STARTED TO MAKE A VERY BAD KNOCKING NOISE. I ENDED UP HAVING TO GET MY CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE HE FOUND THAT A VALVE SEAL DROPPED IN CYLINDER 6. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. NO SMALL TICKING NOISE FROM THE VALVE HITTING THE SEAL, NO WATER IN THE OIL, NO OIL IN THE WATER, NO METAL FLAKES IN THE OIL. FROM THE KNOWLEDGE OF MYSELF, MY DAD (12 YEAR DIESEL MECHANIC), THE MECHANIC THAT I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO WHO (HAS AN A+ BBB RATING AND HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR OVER 14 YEARS), AND FROM THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE ONLINE A VALVE SEAT DOESN'T JUST DROP OUT OF NO WHERE WITHOUT WARNING. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN ONLINE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD MAJOR ENGINE FAILURE LIKE THIS WITH THE 2004-05 DODGE DURANGO WITH THE 5.7L HEMI AS WELL. I AM NOT 100% SURE MY ISSUE IS RELATED, BUT WHAT I DO KNOW IS THAT THIS ENGINE IS NOW ON BACK ORDER THROUGH CHRYSLER AND THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T ORDER THE ENGINE FROM CHRYSLER AND WOULD HAVE TO ORDER A NEW ENGINE THROUGH A 3RD PARTY COMPANY. I AM THE 2ND OWNER OF MY CAR AND THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND MY SELF HAVE BOTH KEPT UP ON REGULAR MAINTENANCE VERY WELL (OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES). THE CAR STARTED NORMALLY AFTER SITTING IN A PARKING LOT FOR 30 MINUTES. WHEN THE CAR WAS PLACED IN REVERSE, THE CAR LURCHED BACKWARDS AND BEGAN ACCELERATING ON IT'S OWN. I QUICKLY APPLIED THE BRAKES AND STOPPED THE CAR AND PUT IT IN NEUTRAL BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE FROM IDLE TO 3000RPM. I REPEATEDLY TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND THE SAME ISSUE AROSE. FINALLY THE CAR SETTLED DOWN AND I WAS ABLE TO GET IT HOME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD AND I REPLACED IT. SAME ISSUE REAPPEARED AND I WAS THEN TOLD IT NEEDED TO BE INITIALIZED TO THE NEW THROTTLE BODY. THE DAY AFTER HAVING THE WORK DONE AT THE DEALER THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN IN TRAFFIC. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE PCM'S IN THIS PARTICULAR CAR. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT CHRYSLER HAS A CAR ON THE ROAD THAT WHEN THE PCM FAILS, THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE ON IT'S OWN. CHRYSLER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO AS IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
