TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE MAGNUM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE FUEL TANK WAS FULL, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AT A HALF TANK THE FAILURE WAS NOT EXPERIENCED. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE HIMSELF AND FOUND THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK INTEGRAL MULTI-FUNCTIONAL CONTROL VALVE FAILED TO OPERATE AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED TSB 14-002-14 REGARDING THE ENGINE STALL FOLLOWING FUEL TANK FILL UP. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF THE MANUFACTURER'S X53 LIFETIME WARRANTY EXTENSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FUEL TANK TOP (THE MALFUNCTION CONTROL VALVE) ALLOWED FUEL TO LEAK INTO THE PURGE LINE, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STALL IN TRAFFIC. CENTRAL FLORIDA CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (8675 COMMODITY CIR, ORLANDO, FL 32819, (321) 445-8017) STATED THAT THE VEHICLE MET THE CRITERIA FOR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN: 14-002-14 ISSUED ON APRIL 22, 2014; HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED AND THE CONTACT WAS DENIED COVERAGE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE COVERAGE WAS EXCLUDED FOR THE VEHICLE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. AFTER FUELING CAR TO NEAR THE FULL MARK I WAS ATTEMPTING TO ENTER THE TRAFFIC FLOW ON INTERSTATE 75 AT OCALA. TRAFFIC WAS RUNNING 70MPH AND I WAS MERGING INTO THE TRAFFIC FLOW. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART ACTING AS IF FLOODED. LUCKILY I WAS DRIVING AND NOT MY WIFE WHO HAS MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY AS SHE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THE PROBLEM IS KNOWN BY DODGE AND IS RELATED TO A PURGE VENT VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK. IT SEEMS THE VELVET STICKS OPEN AND ALLOWS GAS , NOT JUST THE FUMES TO BE RECIRCULATED TO THE THROTTLE BODY (INTAKE) AND FLOODS THE ENGINE. DODGE STATES THIS PROBLEM CAN AFFECT ALL DODGE CHARGER, MAGNUM AND 300 MODEL CARS. IT REQUIRES A FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT AS THE PURGE VALVE IS INCORPORATED INTO THE TANK ITSELF. *TR

MY 2006 DODGE MAGNUM WITH THE 5.7L HEMI HAS HAD AND CONTINUES TO HAVE THE ISSUES OUTLINED IN NHTSA INVESTIGATION PE 13016. IT STALLS OUT AFTER FUELING. IT HAS NOW STARTING DOING IT WHEN THE WEATHER GETS MUCH WARMER DURING THE DAY. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER VIA E-MAIL AND WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED BY THE EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY ON THE GAS TANK AND ASSOCIATED PARTS. I HAVE CONTACTED BILLION HERE IN SIOUX FALLS AND ALSO PAPIK IN LUVERNE MN AND NEITHER SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS HEARD OF THIS ISSUE, THE INVESTIGATION, OR THE FIX. AT THING POINT I MAY JUST HAVE MY LOCAL SHOP THAT I USE FIX IT AS IT HAS BECOME VERY NERVE RACKING TO DRIVE. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR SOMETHING THE COMPANY HAS COMMITTED TO FIX. CAR STALLED ONCE TODAY ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER (THEY WANTED IT WITH A FULL TANK) AND THEN THREE TIMES ON MY WAY HOME AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THEIR ANALYSIS. I CAME TO A FULL STOP, SHIFTED TO PARK AND RESTARTED AGAIN. LUCKILY I WAS LESS THAN A MILE FROM MY OFFICE AND JUST PARKED VEHICLE THERE. THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHEN I LAST FILLED MY TANK (APPROX 10 DAYS AGO), STALLING SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET OUT OF THE COSTCO PARKING LOT. ON THAT OCCASION, I CONGESTED TRAFFIC FOR SEVERAL MINUTES WHILE WAITING FOR THE VEHICLE TO RESTART AND HEAD HOME. IT DIDN'T OCCUR AGAIN DURING THE SUBSEQUENT DAYS, BUT TODAY I FUELED UP AGAIN AND GOT THE EXACT SAME ISSUE - SO IT'S DEFINITELY SOMETHING RELATED TO THE FUELING PROCESS. I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS BRAND NEW AND THIS IS A NEW ISSUE. *TR

AGAIN THE CAR STARTED BACK UP AND GOT UP TO AROUND 25 MPH AND THE MOTOR STOPPED RUNNING. THEN IT STARTED BACK UP, BUCKED ABOUT 15-20 TIMES AND GOT ME HOME. NEXT DAY THE CAR RAN FINE. FIVE DAYS LATER, FILLED THE CARS GAS TANK UP AGAIN AND PULLED INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THE MOTOR STOPPED RUNNING, WAS ALMOST HIT BY A DUMP TRUCK. AGAIN THE CAR STARTED BACK UP GOT UP TO AROUND 35 MPH AND THE MOTOR STOPPED RUNNING. THIS HAS NOW BEEN HAPPENING AFTER EVERY REFILL. I DON'T TOP OFF THE TANK.

LATELY IT HAPPENS AFTER EACH FILL UP REGARDLESS OF GAS STATION OR BRAND OF GAS.

THE PROBLEM IS EXACTLY WHAT WAS REPORTED IN PE13016, HOWEVER I HAVE HAD THE ENGINE DIE AT BOTH LOW SPEEDS AND HIGH SPEEDS (50-65 MPH). *TR

THE DEALER SAYS THEY CAN FIX IT FOR AROUND $1400. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL, NOT SOMETHING DUMPED ON THE OWNER. WHEN YOU GO TO ALL THE MOPAR BLOGS, THIS ISSUE IS COMMON ON ALL 06 - 07 CHARGERS, MAGNUMS AND CHRYSLER 300S. THEY KNOW IT'S THE CHECK VALVE, AND KNOW IT WAS A POOR DESIGN, BUT TOO BAD CONSUMER. *TR

IT HAS NOW BEEN 6 MONTHS SINCE THE LAST ACTIVITY ON THE CURRENT NHTSA PE13-016 INVESTIGATION (LAST ACTIVITY REFERRED TO ON THE WEBSITE WAS AUGUST OF 2013). IT OCCURRED BOTH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND ALSO WHILE IN MOTION. RESTARTING THE VEHICLE WAS SOMETIMES DIFFICULT. ONCE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE FREQUENTLY SURGED WHILE DRIVING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES OF OPERATION UNTIL RETURNING TO NORMAL. THIS PROBLEM AND ITS ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS A SAFETY RISK. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE BUSY ON-RAMP AND WAS A HAZARD TO THE MANY SEMI TRUCKS MAKING THE TURN ONTO THE FREEWAY. AFTER WAITING FOR ALMOST AN HOUR FOR THE CAR TO COOL I CHECKED THE OIL AGAIN. IT WAS FULL AND FRESH AFTER BEING SERVICED RECENTLY. A CHP OFFICER SPOTTED ME ON THE RAMP AND I INFORMED HIM OF WHICH PANEL LIGHTS LIT UP AND THE WHAT THE MANUAL SUGGESTED. HE WANTED TO CHECK IF I HAD OIL PRESSURE AND SUGGESTED I ATTEMPT TO TURN IT ON. INDEED THE PRESSURE WAS FINE BUT THE CAR HAD A ROUGH IDLE, SPUTTERED AND DIED AGAIN. AFTER TURNING IT OVER AGAIN THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF FUEL, I TRIED REVVING THE ENGINE. IT DIED AGAIN. THE CHP OFFICER AND I AGREED IT WAS A FUEL PROBLEM AND INFORMED ME IT WOULD BE CHEAPER IF I CALLED A TOW TRUCK THAN IF HE DID AND SAID HE WOULD BE BACK TO CHECK ON ME. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR RUNNING LONG ENOUGH TO BACK OFF THE ON-RAMP AND INTO A PARKING LOT. IT DIED TWO MORE TIMES. AFTER GETTING IT STARTED AGAIN I REVVED THE ENGINE UNTIL IT IDLED PROPERLY AND WENT HOME. WHILE RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON LXFORUMS.COM I BECAME AWARE OF A FAULTY GAS TANK ISSUE WHICH WAS THE CAUSE.
