TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE NITRO 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE FUEL WOULD SPEW OUT FROM THE FILLER NECK WHEN REFUELING TO CAPACITY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE IN THE CHECK VALVE, WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I HAVE PROBLEMS WHEN FUELING MY VEHICLE. I DO NOT TOP OFF. WHEN THE AUTO SHUT OFF ON THE HOSE CLICKS, GAS WILL SHOOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS WILL HAPPEN EVERY TIME IF I DON'T STOP THE FUEL BEFORE I KNOW IT IS ALMOST FULL. BECAUSE OF THIS BACK FLUSH OF FUEL, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON ALONG WITH THE GASCAP LIGHT. HAD THIS CHECKED AND DEALERSHIP PUT A NEW GAS CAP ON AND CHANGED A FILTER IN THE GAS TANK. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED AN ENTIRE NEW GAS TANK. WHEN I FILLED MY GAS TANK AND THE FUEL NOZZLE HAD SHUT OFF GAS OVERFLOWED AND SPILLED OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THIS IS DO TO A DEFECTIVE AIR VENT IN THE FUEL TANK. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE AIR VENT IN THE FUEL TANK IS TO PROTECT THE GAS TANK FROM EXPLODING DURING A VEHICLE ROLL OVER. IF THE AIR VENT IS DEFECTIVE THEN I WOULD ASSUME THAT THE GAS TANK COULD EXPLODE DURING A ROLL OVER. *TR

I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT DUE TO THE FUEL VALVE SYSTEM BEING A DEFECT. THERE HAS BEEN SO MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE FUEL SYSTEM SUCH AS WHEN YOUR PUMPING GAS IT IS OVERFLOWING DUE TO THE FUEL VALVE NOT WORKING PROPERLY LIKE IT SHOULD. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY REASON DUE TO IT SHUTS THE FUEL OFF IF THE CAR ARE ROLLED OVER WHICH MAY CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO WHOEVER IS INVOLVED. MY CAR ONLY HAS 38,500 MILES ON THE CAR AND IS USED. I GOT IT A YEAR AGO AND IT DID IT TO ME TWICE WHEN I FIRST DID IT BUT THEN HAVEN'T DONE IT SINCE THE LAST 5 FUEL UPS AND NOW IT IS OVER FLOWING EVERY TIME. THEY HAVE RECALLED THE JEEPS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM BUT THEY HAVE NOT THE DODGE NITROS. THE DODGE NITROS HAVE THE SAME FUEL TANK IN THEM AS THE JEEPS SO WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR. FOR SOMEONE TO GET SERIOUSLY INJURED OR EVEN DIE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. IT GET IT REPAIRED COST OVER 1,000. I GOT IT USED AND THE DEALER ISN'T EVEN WILLING TO COVER IT. I AM HAVING MULTIPLE ISSUES. THE GAS TANK OVERFLOWS EVERY TIME I GET GAS, THE AIR CONDITIONER ONLY COOLS WHILE DRIVING AND SOMETIMES PRODUCES HEAT INSTEAD, THE LOCKS DO NOT WORK 4 OUT OF 7 DAYS A WEEK, THE TPM SIGNAL COMES ON EVERY FEW DAYS EVEN THOUGH THE TIRES ARE FINE, AND THE WINDOWS DO NOT WORK ON OCCASION. ALTHOUGH THIS APPEARS TO ME THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL AND GAS TANK ISSUE, THERE ARE NOT ANY RECALLS ISSUED AT THIS TIME. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I WILL NEED TO BRING IT BY WHEN THINGS ARE NOT WORKING IN ORDER FOR THEM TO DO ANY TYPE OF DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. APPROXIMATELY 1-2 MEASURING CUPS IS THE GENERAL AMOUNT. FUEL SPILLS ON VEHICLE, GAS FILLER NOZZLE ASSEMBLY, THE GROUND, AND OFTEN ON THE PERSON FILING THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS ON EVERY FILL UP WITH FUEL. I HAVE PERSONALLY SEEN 2 OTHER NITRO VEHICLES AND ONE JEEP LIBERTY SUV HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WHILE AT A GAS STATION. GAS STATION ATTENDANTS ACTUALLY COMMENTED THIS HAPPENS ON THESE VEHICLES, "ALL THE TIME". THE DODGE CORPORATION WEBSITE PAGES SPECIFIC TO NITRO OWNERS HAVE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS LISTED ON THIS ISSUE. CONTACTED LOCAL DEALER - WAS TOLD THEY ARE COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF THE ISSUE. THEY CHARGED FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND SAID THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM NEEDS REPLACEMENT. THEY QUOTED 3 TIMES THE AMOUNT TO HAVE WORK DONE AT A LOCAL INDEPENDENT SHOP. THEY REFUSED TO GUARANTEE THE PROBLEM WOULD NOT CONTINUE. COMPLAINT #21091094 FILED WITH CHRYSLER CORP. RESEARCH FROM OTHER OWNERS STATES A VALVE OR VENT MOLDED INTO THE TANK IS THE ISSUE. PROBLEM PERSISTS WITH VEHICLE AS OF THE DATE OF THIS FILING. ANECDOTAL ACCOUNTS THAT A DEFECTIVE "ROLLOVER SHUT OFF VALVE" AT THE TOP OF THE TANK IS THE REAL PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO INDEPENDENTLY VERIFY THIS IS EVEN A PART ON THE TANK ASSEMBLY. AT $4.00 PER GALLON, I CAN'T AFFORD TO WASTE A DROP OF GAS. NOT TO MENTION THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF SPILLING GAS ALL OVER THE GROUND. IT HAS ALSO SHOT OUT AND CONSEQUENTLY COVERED MY PANTS AND SHOES WITH GASOLINE AND THEN TO HAVE TO GET IN YOUR VEHICLE AND DRIVE HOME IS DISGUSTING BECAUSE OF THE SMELL. THE SPILLING OCCURS EVERY TIME THAT YOU FUEL UP EVEN WHEN YOU KICK THE NOZZLE OFF MANUALLY WHEN NEAR FULL. THIS IS DEFINITELY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THANK GOD A FIRE HAS NOT OCCURRED BECAUSE OF THE FUEL SPILLING. CALLED CHRYSLER DIRECTLY AND THEY THREW ANOTHER STORY AT ME THAT WAS A TOTAL LIE. EVERYTIME I FILL UP IF I DON'T LISTEN CLOSE ENOUGH IT SHOOTS GAS OUT THE FILLER NECK AND ALL OVER THE VEHICLE. HI I BOUGHT MY 2007 DODGE NITRO IN 2007, I HAVE NOT HAD MANY ISSUES A FEW MINOR ONES NO BIGGIE. BUT RECENTLY THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON THEN GOING AWAY COMING ON THEN GOING AWAY. IT WAS GETTING ME AGGRAVATED. EVERYTIME I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER THEY SAID NO EVERYTHING IS FINE OK SURE. LATELY EVERYTIME I GO TO FILL UP MY TANK IT HAS BEEN OVERFLOWING. SO I WAS REALLY FED UP I TOOK IT IN AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO THEM (DEALER) THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WILL NEED A NEW FUEL TANK AND FILL NECK. NOW I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND APPARENTLY IM NOT THE ONLY NITRO OWNER GOING THROUGH THIS ISSUE. I HEAR THAT THE VALVE IS DEFECTIVE AND THAT IT'S A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT IT. NOW BEAR IN MIND WE HAVE ALL BEEN DRIVING A CAR GOD FORBID GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT AND THE CAR BLOWS UP BECAUSE OF THAT. I AM NOT HAPPY I WILL PURSUE THIS AND MY SERVICE BETTER GET COVERED THANK GOD I GOT THE EXTRA WARRANTY!!!! I OWN A 2007 DODGE NITRO 4X4, BOUGHT IT IN 2010 SINCE BUYING IT I HAVE HAD PERSISTENT PROBLEMS WITH FILLING THE TANK. IT SEEMS THAT WHEN I WOULD FILL THE TANK TO THE POINT THAT THE PUMP SHUTS OFF I WOULD HAVE FUEL SHOOT BACK OUT AND DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ON THE GROUND. EXCUSE BUT DO WE NOT SEE A SERIOUS PROBLEM HERE? TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FIRST THEY REPLACED A CANISTER LOCATED IN THE FUEL TANK. DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THEN THEY CHECKED THE FUEL TANK VACUUM LINE FOR KINKED LINE AGAIN NOT FIXED. FINALLY THEY DETERMINED THE ROLL OVER VALVE IS FAULTY SO THEY REPLACED THE TANK OUT OF MY POCKET. MY MILEAGE WAS ONLY IN THE 30,000 RANGE AND THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VERY SUBJECT AND STILL DODGE REFUSES TO MAKE THIS RIGHT.
