THIS VEHICLE AS BOUGHT USED AT A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN ARLINGTON, TX WITH ABOUT 33,800 MILES ON IT. WHEN REFUELING THIS VEHICLE FOR THE FIRST TIME THE GAS PUMP DID NOT SHUT OFF WHEN THE TANK WAS FULL, RESULTING IN GAS OVERFLOWING ONTO THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND SPILLING ON THE GROUND. THIS SAME KIND OF MALFUNCTION CONTINUES TO OCCUR EVERY TIME IT IS REFUELED UNLESS THE PERSON REFUELING IT MANUALLY STOPS THE PUMP BEFORE THE TANK IS COMPLETELY FULL. SOMETIMES THE PUMP SHUTS OFF AS GAS BEGINS TO OVERFLOW, AND OTHER TIMES THE PUMP DOES NOT SHUT OFF AT ALL. THIS CONDITION IS VERY HAZARDOUS, HARMFUL TO THE VEHICLE'S PAINT, AND WASTEFUL. *TR

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO FILL FUEL TANK, THE NOZZLE SHUT OFF AS NORMAL WHEN TANK WAS FULL, HOWEVER GASOLINE SHOT OUT OF THE FILLER NECK ALL OVER MY PANTS AND SHOES. THERE WAS PROBABLY A PINT TO A HALF GALLON OF FUEL THAT SHOT OUT OF THE TANK. I HAVE CHECKED ON LINE AND DETERMINED THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT WITH THE 2007 DODGE NITRO. THIS NOW OCCURS EACH AND EVERY TIME I FILL THE FUEL TANK. SOMEONE IS BOUND TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED OVER THIS SITUATION, WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE.

WHEN FUELING, THE FILLER NOZZLE NEVER SHUTS OFF. FUEL SPEWS OUT OF THE FILL NECK ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE TRUCK, THE GROUND, AND YOU (IF YOU'RE STANDING TOO CLOSE). EVERY TIME I FILL THE GAS TANK OF MY 2007 DODGE NITRO THERE IS A LARGE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE THAT "BURPS" BACK OUT OF THE TANK ONTO THE CAR, THE GROUND AND ANYONE (UNSUSPECTING THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN) STANDING NEAR BY. IT MAY BE AS MUCH AS A GALLON OF GASOLINE. CHRYSLER HAS ADMITTED THIS IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT OF A VALVE IN THE GAS TANK. THIS VALVE IS THERE TO PREVENT THE POSSIBILITY OF AN EXPLOSION IN THE EVENT OF A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT. IF THIS VALVE IS DEFECTIVE IT WOULD SEEM IT WILL NOT PREVENT AN EXPLOSION IN A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT. RECENTLY MY DAUGHTER BORROWED THE CAR. I NEGLECTED TO TELL HER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. SHE FILLED THE CAR AND STOOD THERE AS GASOLINE COVERED HER SHOES AND THE BOTTOM OF A GOOD PAIR OF SLACKS. YOU CAN IMAGINE HER HORROR AS SHE STOOD THERE COVERED IN FRESH GASOLINE. CHRYSLERS SOLUTION AT THIS TIME IS FOR ME TO PAY A DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK. TO AVOID HAVING TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR (WITH MONEY I DON'T HAVE) AS THE TANK FILLS I SLOW THE FUEL FLOW INTO THE TANK TO THE SLOWEST FLOW RATE ON THE PUMP HANDLE. THERE IS STILL A "BURP" BACK AT FULL. JUST NOT VERY MUCH FUEL. THIS DEFECTIVE VALVE IS GOING TO CAUSE HORRIBLE DEATHS OR DISFIGURING BURNS TO SOMEONE. A GASOLINE FIRE WOULD BE AN AWFUL THING, THE FACT THAT IT IS PREVENTABLE WOULD MAKE IT UNIMAGINABLE. KNOWING THIS PROBLEM EXISTS WITH MY VEHICLE I CANNOT EVEN SELL IT IN GOOD CONSCIENCE. *TR

WHEN PUMPING FUEL INTO OUR FAMILYS 2007 DODGE NITRO, A LARGE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE SPILLS ALL OVER THE PERSON, THE CAR, AND THE GROUND AT THE GAS STATION. THIS HAPPENS NO MATTER WHAT GAS STATION IS USED. IT IS A SAFETY DEFECT FULLY KNOWN TO CHRYSLER-DODGE, AND MAY BE CAUSED BY A PART SUPPLIER DEFECT. THE ALLEGEDLY DEFECTIVE PART IS A FUEL CHECK VALVE THAT IS BUILT INTO THE FUEL TANK. THE FUEL TANK HAS TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO FIX THE DEFECTIVE PART SO IT IS A MAJOR REPAIR. THIS DEFECTIVE PART IS APPARENTLY INVOLVED IN PREVENTING TANK EXPLOSIONS SHOULD THE VEHICLE ROLL OVER. SINCE THIS DEFECTIVE PART IS LIKELY INSTALLED IN MANY THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES, THERE IS CONCERN THIS DEFECT COULD LEAD TO FUEL TANK DETONATIONS IN NITROS AND JEEP LIBERTIES INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS. IN ADDITION, THIS DEFECT WILL LIKELY LEAD TO FUTURE EXPLOSIONS AT FUELING STATIONS SINCE GASOLINE POURS UNCONTROLLABLY AND PROFUSELY OUT OF THE GAS TANK. INCIDENT OCCURS JUST ABOUT EVERY TIME TANK IS FILLED AND THE CONSEQUENCES ARE THAT A LARGE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE SHOOTS BACK OUT OF THE FILLING NOZZLE ALL OVER THE PAINTED SURFACE OF THE VEHICLE AND ON TO THE SURFACE OF THE AREA IN WHICH PARKED. IN ADDITION TO AGGRAVATION, ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE, PAINT DAMAGE, THERE ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONSEQUENCES THAT COULD OCCUR IF SOME SORT OF AN IGNITION SOURCE OCCURRED AT THE TIME IT HAPPENED. CONTROLLING THE FLOW/SPEED OF GASOLINE FROM THE GAS PUMP THROUGH THE NOZZLE INTO THE TANK FILLER TUBE DOES NOT LESSEN THE PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2007 DODGE NITRO SXT. THE CONTACT OBSERVED FUEL SPRAYING OUT OF THE FUEL TANK WHENEVER SHE WAS REFUELING THE VEHICLE. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE CHECK VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAS CONCERNS OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. WHENEVER THE FUEL BEING ADDED WAS NEAR IT'S CAPACITY IT RAPIDLY BEGAN LEAKING ON THE FLOOR. THE FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 7 TO 8 TIMES. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. AS YOU ARE PUTTING GAS INTO THE FUEL TANK IT WILL OVERFLOW FROM FILLER SPOUT AND SPILL OUT CAUSING A HAZARDOUS CONDITION AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM. THIS WILL HAPPEN NOT MATTER THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IN TANK. I WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT THE HOLE INTO THE GAS TANK IS SMALLER THAN THE FILL LINE AND CAUSES BACK UP. IF YOU TRY TO FILL VERY SLOW THE SENSOR IN THE PUMP DOES NOT DETECT AND IT OVERFLOWS. DEALER HAS REPLACED GAS TANK BUT DID NOT HELP THE PROBLEM. *TR

UNCONTROLLED ACCELLERATION OF 2007 DODGE NITRO, W/3.7 LITRE, HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES IN SIX MONTHS OF OWNING . CANT BE FIXED BY DEALER CAUSE DOESN'T SHOW CODE OR ABLE TO DUPLICATE WHEN THEY HAVE IT , ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO PUT IN NEUTRAL AND KILL ENGINE . HAVE HAD OTHER PROBLEMS LIKE IDLE ROUGH AND SURGING , AND LIKE SOMEONE TURNING KEY OFF AND ON FOR SPLIT SECOND WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY PATTERN TO WHEN SUDDEN ACEL HAPPENS , IT HAS BEEN RANDOM AND CAN SEEMINGLY HAPPEN W/OUT NOTICE. THE DEALER KEEPS TELLING ME TO KEEP DRIVING IT TILL IT DOES IT AGAIN SO THEY CAN TRY TO GET CODES OR SOMETHING TO TROUBLE SHOOT IT. BUT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS YOU WOULD THINK. IM AT A LOSS TO WHAT TO DO , I HAVE CONTACTED DODGE COMPLAINT LINE AND THEY DON'T SEEM TO WORRIED ABOUT MY SAFETY AS IT WOULD SEEM , DO TO THEM WANTING ME TO KEEP BRINGING IT BACK TO DEALER . ALSO NO PARTS HAVE BEEN CHANGED IN ORDER TO TRY TO CORRECT ,ONLY HOOK UP SCANNER AND DRIVE AROUND BLOCK AND FLASH PROGRAMS AT IT WHICH HAS SEEMINGLY HAD ILL AFFECT ON IT AS IN MY FUEL MILEAGE HAS WENT 23-24 HIGHWAY TO ABOUT 15-18 NOW, AND THEY CANT GET IT BACK WHERE IT WAS, NOW IT IS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY AND FAMILY WONT DRIVE BECAUSE SCARED OF IT, AND I M STILL PAYING ON VEHICLE THAT IS UNSAFE AND NO IDEA HOW TO FIX , OR DODGE I SHOULD SAY, CANT FIX. *TR
