I noticed a few months ago my dash lights and radio lights at night when I turn my headlights on would flicker on and off several times then stop and do it again repeated process. I never got it looked at so just the other day I was driving and my windshield wipers, my emergency flashers and my driverside window and the back passenger window was all going crazy my widows was rolling up and down my flashers was going off and my wipers wouldn't turn off so I immediately pull over fearing of causing an accident with someone due to not being able to focus on driving once I pulled over my horn started blowing like crazy it was weird so I cut the vehicle off and everything kept doing what it was doing so I popped the hood and killed the battery. I waited maybe 10 minutes and hooked the battery back up and seconds later my horn only started going crazy again so I had no option out of the safety of me and other vehicles on the road to just have it towed back to my house I have been researching it and I've come to find out that there's several others with dodge nitros that have had the same issue as me. The tipm module (fuse box) was bad. I have yet to be able to drive my vehicle as it would be very unsafe and I've not yet got it towed to the dealership to look at it for reasons of what I've seen other complaints had to say about there experience at the dealership.. there needs to be a recall on the electrical malfunction as it is a huge!!! Safety concern for everybody. Please do something about this.

THE OTHER ISSUE THAT STARTED WITH THE ABOVE PROBLEM IS THAT THE CAR TURNS OFF ON IT'S OWN. IT COULD BE WHILE YOU ARE IDLE OR BACKING UP, PARKING OR EVEN IN THE PROCESS OF STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT. I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT BECAUSE THE BREAKS LOCKED UP AFTER THE CAR JUST STALLED WHILE I WAS STOPPING THE VEHICLE. AGAIN NO ONE KNOWS WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. VERY DANGEROUS. I'VE AVOIDED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. I LIVE IN A PLACE THAT HAS LOTS OF HILLS SO IF THIS CAR TURNS OFF WHILE BREAKING/SLOWING DOWN GOING DOWNHILL I CAN HIT THE CAR IN FRONT. TOOK MY 2007 DODGE NITRO TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ENGINE LIGHTS. AFTER ALL ISSUES WERE REPAIRED RELATED TO ENGINE LIGHTS, I WAS TOLD THE HEAT SHIELD HAD FALLEN AND WAS RESTING ON THE DRIVE SHAFT. THIS CAUSED A SHAVING OFF OF THE METAL ALONG A 6-8 INCH SPACE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD NO LONGER HONOR THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. THE ONLY WAY THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED WAS FOR THE CAR TO BE IN HIGH WATER THUS DAMAGING THE HEAT SHIELD CAUSING IT TO WEAR DOWN THE METAL ON THE DRIVE SHAFT. I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE NO FACTORY-INSTALLED FASTENERS HOLDING THE HEAT SHIELD IN PLACE. I HAVE NOT EVER HAD MY CAR IN HIGH WATER AND UPON MY FURTHER EXAMINATION INCLUDING VIDEO DOCUMENTATION OF THE UNDER CARRIAGE, I POINTED OUT TO THE SERVICE TECH THAT THE FACTORY LABEL ON THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, MY OIL PAN LACKED DENTS OR DINGS, AND THERE APPEARED TO BE NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE UNDER CARRIAGE, NOR DID I HAVE ANY WATER RELATED INTERIOR ISSUES. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STILL REFUSED TO COVER THE DRIVE SHAFT AND HEAT SHIELD REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUGGESTED I MAKE A CLAIM TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND TO CONTACT CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE TO SEE IF THEY WOULD OPEN A CLAIM. THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY PATTERN TO WHEN SUDDEN ACEL HAPPENS , IT HAS BEEN RANDOM AND CAN SEEMINGLY HAPPEN W/OUT NOTICE. THE DEALER KEEPS TELLING ME TO KEEP DRIVING IT TILL IT DOES IT AGAIN SO THEY CAN TRY TO GET CODES OR SOMETHING TO TROUBLE SHOOT IT. BUT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS YOU WOULD THINK. THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE. AS OF NOVEMBER 21, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THERE IS A RECALL FOR SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK: CONTROL UNIT/MODULE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V434000). THE DEALER REPAIRED THE RECALL; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. STRANGE SOUNDS AND VIBRATIONS FROM UNDER FLOORBOARDS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GOT SERIOUSLY HURT. WITH ONLY 4,500 MILES ON MY 2007 DODGE NITRO, THE ENTIRE ENGINE STALLED, DIED, WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, GOING ABOUT 45 MILES PER HOUR. POWER LOSS WAS COMPLETE, NO RADIO, NO ENGINE, ALL LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CAME ON. THE OUTAGE LASTED ABOUT , I GUESS 30 SECS TO 1 MINUTE, THEN THE ENGINE CAME BACK ON AS DID THE RADIO. I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, ON THE INSIDE LANE AND HAD IT NOT RESTARTED, I WAS IN A WRECK FOR SURE AS A BIG TRUCK WAS BEHIND ME, ANOTHER CAR NEXT TO ME IN THE OUTSIDE LANE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER WHICH SAYS IT COULD BE THE IGNITION SWITCH, BUT AFTER READING FOR HOURS ON THE DODGE NITRO FORUM, I FIND THAT MANY HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME ISSUE AND NOT ONE DEALER HAS BEEN ABLE TO FIND A FIX. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE IN THE SHOP 7 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT IT. ALL OF THE PROBLEMS ARE A PROBLEM FOR ME AS THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND BEING SINGLE, I HAVE NO OTHER TRANSPORTATION TO MY TEACHING JOB.
