TIPM system and/or electrical system failure. Right turn signal intermittently works when it wants to. Door locks from the inside at random or will not lock at all when using the master lock button. Now car will not start or turn over at all. Zero sound comes from he vehicle while turning the key. Commonly known problem with other Dodge Nitros and nothing being done about it. A recall needs to happen or at the very least acknowledgement from Dodge.
I had just entered Gene Snyder Expressway going west when my throttle light started flashing and I lost gas pressure and it started going down fast and then it shut off and right in the middle of rush-hour traffic and it’s 65 mph on the expressway and People as usual go around 80 mph and I just entered and almost got slammed in the rear but luckily I got off the highway in time. I still have not been able to turn my truck over at all. It is in the throttle electrical system, which is currently being checked out as we speak but it’s spit out two codes. One was PO633 and one was P2 112.
TIPM connectors melted. Ground wires melted.
The vehicle throws the abs, esp,break and traction control lights and then while driving completely at random then turns off WHILE DRIVING!!!! which can cause an accident (I and my daughter are lucky to be alive) this is not ok the vehicle drives fine then at random throws those lights and shuts off after restarting it the check engine light comes on and says the transmission shift solenoid b is malfunction and the vehicle wouldn't shift properly. Luckily I had my code reader I. The car with me I cleared the code and now the car drives fine until this happens again I'm scared to drive it this is dangerous their's no warning. I drive on the highway everyday their's no warning it happens at random 2 times I've been lucky. No codes came up driving after clearing it and the car drives fine now but it's happened 2 times while driving this is extremely dangerous and I don't know what to do because with the codes gone the issues are gone but they randomly all the lights mentioned above come on and then the car shuts off with no warning then when you restart it it throws a different code for a different problem the first time was a low voltage code I cleared it and even Tho my battery tested good I replaced it and two days later the same issue and a different code

There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with an unknown electrical wiring failure. The dealer replaced the battery cables; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.

The contact stated that occasionally while driving, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact was able to coast off the road safely. The contact stated that she then got out the vehicle to look under the hood to tap the TIPM box, which allowed her to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that she had contacted the dealer to schedule an appointment. The TIPM in these vehicles are faulty and nothing is being done about it by Dodge. There are hundreds of complains across several forums and every time Dodge is contacted about the issue they use the no recall excuse. I have a Nitro myself and it has multiple electrical issues for no reason other than poor manufacturing. The TIPM is the issue and it's not just my Nitro having this problem. My vehicle has accelerated without my assistance, it's had braking issues when there should be no issue. Components that need my action to work have activated on their own, such as... horn, wiper, wiper fluid, accelerator, etc... The wiring in these vehicles are faulty and it needs to be fixed by the manufacturer at their expense. It's time they step up a make it right by the consumer.
IT STARTED WITH ALL DASH LIGHTS COMING ON SAYING IT HAD ISSUES AND THEN JUST STOPPED DEAD IN ROAD. I HAD TPIM PUT IN, THEN ALTERNATOR , AND THEN NEW BATTERY. WAS FINE AND THEN HEAD LIGHTS STOPPED COMING ON . NEXT, IT STARTING WITH HORN, AND EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN COMING ON AND NOT STOPPING. TOOK TO SHOP AND THEY THOUGHT THEY FOUND IT, AND DROVE FOR A DAY AND AS SOON AS I TURNED ON HEADLIGHTS IT STALLED. IN MOTION ON A STREET DRIVING.

I HAVE A MYGIG HEAD UNIT WITH NAVIGATION AND SIRIUS SATELLITE DVD PLAYER. TOOK IT TO MECHANIC NEXT DAY BUT LIGHTS WERE NOT ON. 3 PAGES OF "LOST COMMUNICATION" CODES PRINTED. MECHANIC SAID IT WAS MOST LIKELY THE MAIN COMPUTER BUT THE LIGHTS WERE NOT ON SO THEY COULDN'T FIX. THE NEXT DAY LIGHTS ALL CAME BACK ON DRIVING ON HIGHWAY CAR ALMOST STALLED AND IT WOULDN'T SHIFT. WE DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO MECHANIC. IT WOULD NOT RESTART. THANKFULLY IT WAS PARKED AT THIS TIME. MECHANIC SAID IT'S THE MAIN COMPUTER MODULE AND WILL COST $1500-$2500 TO FIX. IF IT DIED WHILE WE WERE DRIVING IT WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC! IT HAS UNDER 100,000 MILES THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED ALREADY. WE DID NOT TAKE PICTURES OF ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS THAT WOULD BE THE ONLY EVIDENCE WE HAVE. WE CAN UPLOAD A BILL ONCE WE GET IT.

STARTED VEHICLE AND DROVE A BLOCK WITH HEATER AND WIPERS RUNNING. THE HEATER SHUT OFF AND ON AND THE HORN STARTED BLARING OFF AND ON. DURING THIS TIME THE LOCKS WERE GOING UP AND DOWN TOO. PULLED OVER, TURNED IGNITION TO THE OFF POSITION AND REMOVED THE KEY. THE ENGINE STILL RAN FOR A LITTLE BIT, HORN STILL BLARING, AND FRONT/BACK WIPERS STILL RAN WITHOUT A KEY IN THE IGNITION. EVENTUALLY THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WITH EVERYTHING EXCEPT FOR THE WIPERS. THE WIPERS CONTINUED TO RUN UNTIL WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED AWAY A COUPLE HOURS LATER. THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE FUSE BOX AND A TERRIBLE SMELL OF A MELTING ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE I COULD HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING OVER 75 MILES PER HOUR IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS WHEN THIS ALL OCCURRED. THANKFULLY THIS HAPPENED WHILE EXITING A BUSINESS INSTEAD. RECALL NEEDS TO HAPPEN BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. UNFORTUNATELY THE LOCAL SHOP COULDN'T TAKE MY VEHICLE IN TO INSPECT. TRIED OTHER SHOPS IN NEARBY TOWNS PLUS A DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE EITHER. SO I EVENTUALLY HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED FROM EAGLE, CO TO THE DENVER METRO. COST ME NEARLY $600 JUST FOR THE TOW TO MY HOUSE. I STILL NEED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL GARAGE AND ACCESSED. LOOKS LIKE IT WILL COST PLENTY. THE GARAGE SUGGESTED FIXING THE PROBLEM WAS NOT WORTH THE EFFORT. THE COST TO REMOVE, REPLACE, SERVICE, ADJUST, REPROGRAM, AND INSTALL WOULD EXCEED $5500 AND THAT WOULD NOT GUARANTEE THE VEHICLE TO PROPERLY WORK. BLUE BOOK VALUE FOR PRIVATE SALE IS LISTED AT $5804 WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING PROPERLY. ENDED DONATING VEHICLE TO VEHICLES FOR VETERANS SO THEY COULD PART OUT THE REMAINING ITEMS THAT WERE STILL GOOD. PURCHASED NEW/USED VEHICLE TO REPLACE THE NITRO. I WOULD LIKE TO RECOVER AT LEAST THE BLUE BOOK VALUE OF $5804 IF POSSIBLE. THIS BREAKDOWN HAS CAUSED FINANCIAL HARDSHIP WITHIN OUR HOME.

SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2010, IT'S HAD STRANGE ELECTRICAL ISSUES. FIRST, THE DOOR LOCKS HAVE BEEN MALFUNCTIONING. AFTER A COUPLE OF USES, THEY NO LONGER RESPOND TO THE REMOTE, OR DOOR LOCK BUTTON. NOR WILL THEY AUTOMATICALLY LOCK WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THAT'S VERY DANGEROUS. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THAT THE HORN WOULD RANDOMLY HONK. THE HONKING STOPPED FOR ABOUT A YEAR. TONIGHT, THE HONKING STARTED AT RANDOM AND WOULDN'T STOP. THE KEY WASN'T IN THE IGNITION AND THE CAR WAS PARKED. I HAD TO REMOVE THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE TO AVOID A VISIT FROM THE POLICE FOR DISTURBING THE PEACE. THE THIRD ISSUE IS THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. YET ANOTHER STRANGE ISSUE. WHEN STARTING THE ENGINE, THERE WILL BE S LONG START AS IF THE STARTER STAYS ENGAGED FOR TOO LONG. SOMETIMES , THE ENGINE WILL START, NOT IDLE AND JUST STOP. THE ENGINE HAS STARTED AND BARELY HAD ANY POWER AND WOULD BARELY MOVE.

I TAPPED THE TIPM (OR FUSE BOX) A BIT JUST LIKE IN THE VIDEO IOOKED UP AND SURE ENOUGH THE ALARM SHUT OFF & MY CAR STARTED ONCE AGAIN. I'VE LOOKED AT SEVERAL FORUMS ONLINE BETWEEN DODGE NITRO USERS & THEY ALL SEEM TO BE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE POINTING TO THE TIPM. IN THE FORUMS THE OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES ARE STATING THERE'S THOUSANDS OF DODGE/CHRYSLER VEHICHLES WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. YET, THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. NOT ONLY DOES THE TIPM REPLACEMENT COST APPROXIMATELY $1,000. BUT IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THESE VEHICLES THAT ARE STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC, DURING RUSH HOUR & WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE, BUT STATED THAT THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO MILFORD CHRYSLER (500 US-209, MILFORD, PA 18337, 1-(570) 296-2636) FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. I SNATCHED MY KEYS, POPPED THE HOOD (WHICH PROBABLY WASN'T TOO BRIGHT IN HINDSIGHT) AND RIPPED THE WIRING OFF OF THE BATTERY TERMINALS. IT WAS HOT UNDER THAT HOOD AND I'M GLAD I HAD THE WHEREWITHAL TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. I REALIZED THEN THAT THE CAR WAS NEVER GOING TO START AGAIN, NOR WOULD I WANT TO. I HAD A FRIEND TOW IT TO HIS SHOP AND HE HAD A LOOK. THE TIPM, WIRING HARNESS/WIRING AND SURROUNDING PLASTIC WAS ALL DESTROYED. HE SAID THE WIRES GOT SO HOT THAT IT WOULD ALL HAVE TO BE RE-RUN THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE, A $3500 TO 4000 ESTIMATE. FORGET THAT NOISE. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THAT THE CAR WAS MOVING WHEN ALL OF THIS HAPPENED AND HAD I NOT BEEN IN A QUIET NEIGHBORHOOD THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH, MUCH WORSE, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES FAILED.

A QUICK LOOK ON THE INTERNET AND I SEE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THEY JUST BLEW IT OFF. WE WILL TAKE IT TO OUR LOCAL SERVICE STATION TOMORROW (AFTER DRIVING 6 HOURS ROUND TRIP TODAY TO GET IT FROM HIM AT SCHOOL). THE CAR ONLY NEEDS TO LAST LESS THAN A YEAR. IN JULY 2014 BATTERY DIED AND REPLACED THE BATTERY AGAIN. THEN MAY 2015 THE CAR GOES HAYWIRE AGAIN. WIPERS GOING OFF, HORN BLARING, DOOR LOCKS MALFUNCTIONING. I TRIED TO START THE CAR AND THE BATTERY STARTS SMOKING. REPLACE THE BATTERY AND IT CONTINUED TO MALFUNCTION. THIS TIME WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF AND THE KEY WAS OUT OF THE IGNITION, THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. I HAD TO UNHOOK THE ALTERNATOR FOR IT TO TURN OFF. THEN I WAS PARKED AND TRIED TO USE THE KEY AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START.AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START THE CAR I DECIDED NOT TO TRY ANYMORE, PUSHED MY KEY LOCK DOOR AND THE CAR STARTED. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEAL AND AFTER 4YRS THEY CONCLUDED IT WAS THE TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE. THIS HAS CAUSED MY HEATER, BRAKE LIGHTS, HEADLIGHTS, AND KEY FOB/ALARM TO MALFUNCTION. THIS ISSUE COULD HAVE CAUSE AN SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND THANK HEAVENS IT DID NOT. I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND NOTICE THAT THESE PARTS WERE RECALLED AND REPLACE IN PREVIOUS AND LATTER MODELS OF THIS VEHICLE BUT NOT 2008. SMOKE WAS COMING FROM OUT THE DASH WHILE DRIVING. THE HORN WAS BLARED OUT OF CONTROL, DRAINING THE BATTERY, THE RADIO WOULD NOT COME ON, THE DOORS LOCKED AND UNLOCKED UNCONTROLLABLY, THE WHEEL AND HUB FAILED ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, THE WATER PUMP WAS REPLACED, THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED THREE TIMES, IN ONE YEAR. WHEN THE CONSUMER CLICKED THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE KEY PAD, THE DOOR LOCKS WENT HAYWIRE, IT WOULD LOCK AND THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. THE TIPM WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, A WEEK LATER, THE PROBLEMS RETURNED WITH THE HEADLIGHTS STAYING ON, THE HORN BLARING OUT OF CONTROL AND THE DOORS LOCKING AND UNLOCKING AND NOT BEING ABLE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. THE HEAD LIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS WERE REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. *JB

WIPERS STOPPED IN COMPLETE VERTICAL POSITION, HORN STOPPED BLARING, WASHER FLUID STOPPED SPRAYING. UPON REACHING HOME DISCONNECTED POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE IN AN ATTEMPT TO SOMEHOW "REBOOT" THE SYSTEM. AFTER RECONNECTING CABLE, STARTED VEHICLE AND UP TO THIS POINT ALL SEEMS NORMAL, FOR NOW. IN MY OPINION UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY 2008 DODGE NITRO IN NOV 2010 (STILL COVERED BY EXTENDED WARRANTY). I WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR SYSTEMS WENT HAYWIRE, THE DASH LIGHTS ILLUMINATING, WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND WASHER FLUID ENGAGED, THE HEADLIGHTS CUTTING OUT AND THE HORN BLARING UNCONTROLLABLY. TURNING THE CAR OFF DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND IT EVENTUALLY STOPPED AFTER 3-4 MINUTES. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE WAY TO WORK (THIS TIME THE RADIO TURNED TO FULL VOLUME WITH NO ASSIST), THE HEAT CUT OUT AND THE WINDSHIELD/LIGHTS/HORN WENT NUTS. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND WAS ASSURED THEY'D FIND THE PROBLEM. THE DODGE DEALERSHIP RAN DIAGNOSTICS, PULLED CODES, BUT COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE SO TOLD ME IT WAS "ABSOLUTELY FINE" TO DRIVE. I CONTINUED TO DEAL WITH THE 'FREAK OUTS' THROUGHOUT THE YEARS, UNTIL ANOTHER ONE HAPPENED WHERE THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP (UNTIL WE DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY). I BROUGHT IT TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO PULLED CODES AND SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM, BUT I HAD TO BRING IT TO DODGE. ON THE WAY TO WORK AT APPROX 70 MPH, I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR (IT WAS AS IF I WERE SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES-ALTHOUGH THEY WERE NEVER ENGAGED) I AM LUCKY THE PERSON BEHIND ME WAS ABLE TO SWERVE AROUND ME AND NOT REAR-END ME. DODGE DETERMINED THAT THE COMPUTER TOLD MY TRANSMISSION TO GO INTO 'FAIL MODE' THRUSTING ME INTO 2ND GEAR. I PAID FOR ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY TOLD ME A TUNE-UP AND A CLEANING OF THE BATTERY COILS WOULD CLEAR THE PROBLEM. THE CAR WORKED NORMAL FOR A WHILE, BUT THEN HAD TWO MORE INCIDENTS, ANOTHER FAIL MODE ON THE HIGHWAY (WHICH ALSO INCLUDED LIGHTS/WIPERS/HORN). I AM PREGNANT AND FEEL VERY UNSAFE IN THIS CAR. DODGE CONTINUES TO MAINTAIN THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. ALSO EACH AND EVERY TIME I WOULD FILL THE GAS TANK IT WOULD OVER FLOW. OBVIOUSLY THE SENSOR TO KNOW WHEN THE TANK IS FULL DOESNT ENGAGE PROPERLY. THE ELESTRICAL ISSUE WAS FIXED AND WAS SAID IT WAS A CENSOR GONE BAD. THIS IS NOW HAPPENING AGAIN. IT IS BEGINNING TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE SHUTTING DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH MY KIDS AND ME IN THE CAR. ON 3/8/08, THE MASTER POWER WINDOW SWITCH WAS REPLACED BY A DODGE DEALERSHIP AND SEEMED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. ON 11/18/09, VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT DODGE DEALERSHIP AS ONE WHERE IT WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED HAD CLOSED. AT THIS VISIT, THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AS IT WAS THOUGHT TO BE THE SOURCE OF ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS THAT HAD BEEN OCCURRING WITH THE CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS - HORN HONKING ON ITS OWN, WINDOW WIPERS (FRONT AND BACK) WORKING ON THEIR OWN (WITH SPRAY), DOOR LOCKS GOING UP AND DOWN BY THEMSELVES AND ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON, PLUS THE A/C HEATER UNIT STOPPED WORKING. THE CAR HAD BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS REPAIR AS IT WAS NOT DRIVABLE IN THE CONDITION IT WAS IN AT THE TIME. ON 9/2/10, THE CAR WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SECOND DEALERSHIP THAT HAD WORKED ON IT PRIOR FOR THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS: WINDSHIELD WIPERS WORKING BY THEMSELVES (WITH SPRAY), TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING LOW TIRE PRESSURE WHEN PRESSURE WAS NORMAL, BOTH TURN SIGNALS FLASHING AT THE SAME TIME WHILE CAR WAS EITHER AT A STANDSTILL OR IN MOTION, FOR NO REASON. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT, BECAUSE NO CODES SHOWED AND THE VEHICLE PASSED ALL THEIR TESTS, NOT DUPLICATING THE PROBLEMS I HAD TOLD THEM ABOUT, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. SUNROOF OF 2008 DODGE NITRO SXT LEAKS AFTER IT RAINS. THE PROBLEM STARTED ONE MONTH AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED (MARCH 2009). DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND SOURCE OF THE LEAK ON FIRST OCCURENCE SO SUNROOF GLASS WAS ADJUSTED. SECOND OCCURENCE WAS IN APRIL OF 2009. LEAK WAS FINALLY DISCOVERED BY DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND ALL COMPONENTS DEALING WITH THE SUNROOF WAS "REPLACED". THIRD OCCURENCE OF SAME PROBLEM OCCURED IN EARLY JANUARY 2010. WATER THAT LEAKS INTO THE VEHICLE NOT ONLY WILL EVENTUALLY RUIN THE INTERIOR BUT THE WATER LEAKS IN AROUND A SET OF MAP LIGHTS LOCATED JUST ABOVE THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 NITRO ON THE FREEWAY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON - SOLID, NOT FLASHING. I MADE A COMMENT TO MY WIFE ABOUT TAKING IT IN THE NEXT DAY TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. ABOUT A MINUTE LATER, THE CAR STALLED AND I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE. MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER GOT OUT AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. BY THE TIME TRAFFIC CLEARED ENOUGH FOR ME TO GET OUT OF THE CAR, THERE WERE FLAMES COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CAR BECAME FULLY ENGULFED WITHIN MINUTES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT THE FIRE OUT AND THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THE FRONT TIRES EXPLODED, THE RIMS MELTED, THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS FULLY BURNT. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO CHRYSLER WHO INVESTIGATED AND TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR.
