Mechanic said TIPM went bad. All gages guit working, check engine light stays on wind shield whipers turn on & off, engine stalls,all lights randomly turn on and off head lights turn signals exc. Transmission and 4 wheel drive say repair. Anti lock breaks acting up. Mechanic said this is happening alot for 2004 Dodge Ram trucks.
I was driving from Colorado to Indiana and all the sudden I heard a noise so I pulled over to the right side of the road. When a man came across the median and got a fire extinguisher from his truck and stated for me and my 3 dogs to get out because my truck was on fire. He stated that the driver shaft was on fire with flames by my gas tank.
Severe rust and corrosion on body and suspension parts. Started at around 10 years of age. Support for bed to frame shows severe corrosion making hauling unsafe. Water is able to enter the cab through corroded rocker panels causing mold. Also, electrical system malfunction in throttle body can cause no response from accelerator at intermittent times.
THE HEADLAMP ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING HOME. I REPLACED IT WITH A NEW ONE. IT WOULD NOT WORK. I GOT A SECOND BULB AND TRIED TO REPLACE THE LIGHT AGAIN. STILL WOULD NOT WORK. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THREE DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOPS AND NONE OF THEM COULD FIX IT. I WAS TOLD IT MIGHT BE THE FUSE BOX.

TIPM REPLACED IN A 2004 RAM 1500. REPLACED DEFECTIVE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM). FUEL PUMP WOULDN'T SHUT OFF, WIPERS TURNING ON BY THEMSELVES, BOTH SIDES OF MY TAIL LIGHTS BLACKED OUT, NO POWER. FOUND OUT THE GROUND TO THE TAIL LIGHT RELAY IN THE TIPM FAILED . HAD TO REPLACE THE TIPM ON 1-20-16 AT A DODGE DEALER. ALL PROBLEMS HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS EITHER STATIONARY, IN MOTION, ON A CITY STREET OR A HIGHWAY OR TURNING. I WAS DRIVING AND THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AND I COULDN'T SEE AND HIT A DEER AT 20MPH ON A BACK ROAD . POLICE WERE NOT CALLED BECAUSE THE DAMAGE WAS ONLY THE BUMPER . WHEN STATIONARY AND NO KEY IN THE IGNITION: THE ELECTRONIC AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS DISJUNCTION. SOMETIMES, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS NOT INTENTIONALLY LOCKED, THE DOORS WILL LOCK ON THEIR OWN WITHOUT A PERSON PRESSING THE LOCK BUTTON ON THE DOOR OR THE KEY FOB. AT OTHER TIMES, WHEN THE DOOR IS LOCKED THEN AFTER RETURNING TO THE VEHICLE AT A LATER TIME, THE DOORS WILL BE UNLOCKED. THIS HAPPENS ON A FAIRLY REGULAR BASIS. THIS COULD BE A REAL PROBLEM FOR THEFT OF ITEMS IN THE VEHICLE. ON OCCASION, WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN MOTION OR STOPPED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON AND THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH PANEL ALL LIT THE TRUCK RANDOMLY HAS ALL THE LIGHTS TURN-OFF AND BLINK A FEW TIMES AND THEN, NORMALLY, COME BACK ON WITHIN SECONDS. THIS HAS HAPPENED DURING THE EVENING HOURS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THERE IS SOME SORT OF ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.
THE DASH MODUAL THAT CONTROLS THE INTERIOR LIGHTS, DASH LIGHTS, AND INTERIOR SIGNALS NO LONGER WORKS. THE GUAGES WORK AND THE SIGNALS WORK BUT THERE ARE NO LIGHTS. THIS POSES A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE YOU CANNOT SEE YOUR SPEED, OIL, TEMP, AND BATTERY GUAGES. IM NOT SURE WHEN IY WENT BAD, I GOT INTO MY TRUCK ONE NIGHT AND NONE OF MY INTERIOR LIGHTS WORKED.

TODAY I WENT TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP SO THEY COULD DIAGNOSE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM I WAS HAVING IN MY TRUCK. THEY TOLD ME THAT PART # 56045112AE, 56051949AD NEED TO BE REPLACED. WHICH ARE THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE IGNITION WIRE HARNESS. PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING WERE THE POWER WINDOWS WOULD NOT GO UP OR DOWN WITHOUT THE STEERING WHEEL ALL THE WAY IN THE UP POSITION. THE MOTOR BLOWERS FOR MY A/C AND HEAT WOULD SOMETIMES NOT WORK. AND MY AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON IN THE CLUSTER PANEL. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE WIRES WERE BURNT, BUT COULD NOT TELL ME THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. I TOLD THEM THAT THERE MUST BE COMPLETELY TOO MUCH CURRENT GOING THROUGH THOSE WIRES TO CAUSE A PROBLEM LIKE THAT AND THEY AGREED. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT BECAUSE OF THE WIRES BEING IN THAT CONDITION THE AIRBAG COULD POSSIBLY GO OFF AT ANY TIME AND/OR CAUSE A FIRE. WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. WHEN DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE WEB THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH DODGE TRUCKS AND JEEPS. ALSO PART NUMBER 56051949AD HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED SO HOW DO THEY EXPECT TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS. CHANGED THE LIGHT BULB WITH THE RECOMMENDED 3057 BULB BUT IT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. CHANGED THE BULB HOLDER BUT STILL DIDN'T FIX THE ISSUES. CHECKED THE FUSE BUT IT WAS GOOD. FINALLY WENT UNDER THE REAR TO CHECK IF THE WIRING HARNESS WAS LOOSE AND SAW THE WIRES FOR THE REAR LAMP WAS PINCHED AGAINST THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE AND THE WIRE FOR THE BRAKE LAMP WAS CUT. THERE WAS REALLY NO GIVE TO THE WIRING HARNESS; IT WAS PULLED EXTREMELY TIGHT. VEHICLE HAS NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES AND NOTHING ELECTRICAL HAS EVER BEEN TOUCHED BEFORE. THE RIGHT TAIL LAMP IS WORKING FINE BUT THE HARNESS FOR THAT SIDE WAS NOT CHECKED. ALL WIRING IS ORIGINAL FROM FACTORY. THE FAULT CODE IDENTIFIED A FAILURE IN THE SPEED SENSOR IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, SO I PULLED THE DIFFERENTIAL COVER OFF AND FOUND WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE SPEED SENSOR IN THE BOTTOM OF THE HOUSING. I ALSO FOUND PIECES OF WHAT WAS LATER IDENTIFIED AS C CLIPS FROM MY LSD CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. THE INDUCTIVE PORTION OF THE SPEED SENSOR PROTRUDES INTO THE DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING AND WAS HIT BY THE FLYING PIECES OF C CLIPS. THE CARRIER BEARING ALSO HAD A GROVE CUT INTO IT BY THESE CLIPS AS THEY WORKED THEIR WAY OUT. I AM TOLD THAT IF I HAD NOT CAUGHT THIS, IT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN CARRIER BEARING FAILURE AND LOCK UP OF MY REAR AXLE. I REMOVED ALL OF THE METAL C CLIP PIECES AND REMOVED THE REMAINING C CLIPS THAT HAD NOT YET FALLEN OUT. I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS ANY CONNECTION, BUT MY LEFT REAR LEAF SPRING CRACKED IN HALF ON THE LOWER MAIN LEAF. I HAD TO REPLACE THE SPRING ASSEMBLY AT MY COST. I NOW HAVE A PERMANENT WHINE AT LOW SPEEDS AND CURRENTLY HAVE 125,000 MILES ON MY TRUCK. I AM CERTAINLY GLAD THAT I FOUND THESE METAL PIECES WHEN I DID! THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE CONTROLLER IN MY 2004 DODGE RAM PICKUP TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED. THE WIRING HARNESS COMPLETELY MELTED THROUGH WIRES AND ALL, AND THE BRAKE CONTROL MECHANISM ITSELF MELTED AND BURNED. THEY STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR COULD HAVE CAUSED THE CRACK IN THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR 2 MONTHS. THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS ELECTRICAL; HOWEVER, THE WOULD NEED TO REMOVE AS MANY COMPONENTS AS POSSIBLE TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE. THE COST FOR THE REPAIR WAS APPROXIMATELY $6,000. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO MAKE THE REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THE MAINTENANCE ON THE VEHICLE WAS UP TO DATE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE MODULE, PCM UNIT, THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS, THE BATTERY AND THE BATTERY TRAY WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WORSEEND. WE REPLACED ALL THE SENSORS AND IT DIDN'T HELP SO WENT TO THE DEALER AGAIN. THEY COULDN'T GET ANY CODES AND COULDN'T TELL US WHAT WAS WRONG. WHY IT WOULDN'T STAY RUNNING. AT AROUND 8:00 AM ON OCTOBER 12, 2006, THERE WAS A SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION FROM THE DRIVER'S DASHBOARD OF MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE (NOT EVEN TURNED ON). WE THEN CONSULTED AND ASKED HELP FROM THE DEALERSHIP (INTEGRITY DODGE, LV,NV -SINCE WE GOT THE VEHICLE ONLY A YEAR AGO AND IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT IT WAS OUR ONLY CAR) THEY SAID THE SAME THING AND INSIST WE CONTACT OUR INSURANCE. WHEN THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE INSURANCE AGENCY, THEY FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE WIRING HARNESS. THIS RECALL SAID THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY OF ENGINE FIRE. WHEN HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, THEY TOLD HIM THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. *AK

THE SERVICE MANAGER DID NOT KNOW OF THIS TYPE PROBLEM HAPPENING ON THIS VEHICLE. AFTER FOUR HOURS OF WAITING, THEY SAID THAT THEY FOUND P2299 BRAKE SWITCH POSITION/APPS INCOMPATIBLE, CHECKED BRAKE SWITCH AND APPS SENSOR OPERATIONS, AND GUESS WHAT, ALL WORKING NORMALLY. THEY THEN CHECKED MDS FOR TSBS FOUND TECH SVC BULLETIN 18-016-05 AND PERFORMED THIS SERVICE. DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND GUESS WHAT, SAME PROBLEM. I WILL BE BACK AT THE DEALER AGAIN TO PLAY THE GAME. WHEN THE DEALER RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THEY SAID THAT IT WAS NOT SHOWING THE CODES FOR THESE PROBLEMS. AFTER FIVE TRIES THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO GET THE DOOR LOCK FIXED. AS FOR THE OTHER PROBLEMS THE DEALER PUT A NEW COMPUTER IN THE VEHICLE. THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR ABOUT A WEEK, AND THEN THE PROBLEMS CAME BACK. I OWN A 2004 RAM 1500. THIS IS TRUCK NUMBER 2 OF THIS YEAR AND MODEL. I AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT I WAS WITH THE LAST. 1. THE ROTORS AND BRAKES ARE WEARING PREMATURELY. 2. IT HAS STALLED ON OCCASION USUALLY WHEN DECELERATING TO MAKE A TURN. 3. THE TRANSMISION WILL HIT A "FLAT" SPOT WHEN EXCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD. 4. THE RADIO DOES NOT DISPLAY PROPERLY WHILE OPPERATING. IT PUTS OUT JIBBERISH OF NUMBERS AND LETTERS. I SAY THIS IS TRUCK NUMBER TWO BECAUSE I WENT TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK AND COMPLAINED OF THE SAME EXCACT PROBLEMS SEVERAL TIMES ON TRUCK ONE. THEY WERE LESS THAN HELPFULL BLAMING EVERYTHING OTHER THAN THE TRUTH. I TRADDED THE FIRST TRUCK IN AND SITED MY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. THEY THEN STATED THAT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A BAD BATCH. THEY PAID OFF THE FIRST TRUCK AND I BOUGHT THE SECOND ONE. NOW I REGRET THAT DECISION. I SHOULD HAVE GONE WITH MY INSTINCTS AND CONTACTED MY LAWYER. BECAUSE IT IS STILL THE SAME PROBLEMS IN A DIFFERENT TRUCK. THAT IS NOT A LEMMON ITS A POORLY BUILT TRUCK FETCHING TOP DOLLAR FOR THEIR COMPANY, WHO WILL DO NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM HOPPING WE GO AWAY OR OUT OF WARRENTY!! .

TRUCK WAS PURCHASED NEW, PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 1000 MILES. TRUCK STALLS, USUALLY HAPPENS AT SLOWER SPEEDS SUCH AS WHEN YOU REMOVE YOUR FOOT FROM THE GAS PETAL TO TURN. IDLE DROPS VERY QUICKLY AND THE ENGINE STALLS. SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE COME CLOSE TO HITTING SOMEONE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS HARD TO STOP OR TURN WHEN YOU LOOSE POWER, YOU ALSO LOOSE THE POWER STEERING AND THE BRAKES. I TOOK IT IN AND THEY DID AN UPDATE ON MY COMPUTER. UPDATE HAS NOT STOPPED THIS FROM HAPPENING. DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME A NEW UPDATE WILL BE OUT SOON, BUT THAT WAS 5 WEEKS AGO, AND IT STILL HAS NOT HAPPENED. IN THE MEANTIME THE VEHICLE STILL STALLS OUT WHEN YOU ARE MOVING!

I WENT TO INVESTIGATE THE SMOLDERING, AND OPEN THE TRUCK DOOR AFTER NOT SEEING ANY FLAME; HOWEVER, ONCE I OPENED THE DOOR IT WAS AS IF SOMEONE HAD LITE A FLAME THROWER, AND POINTED IT IN MY DIRECTION. THE FIRE CONSUMED THE VEHICLE SO RAPIDLY, I AM SURE I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TIME TO REMOVE A INFANT FROM IT'S CAR SEAT, HAD MY SON BEEN IN THE TRUCK. I ALLOWED DAIMLER CHRYSLER TO SEND AN ENGINEER NAMED BOB WHIPPLE OUT HERE TO MY HOME. HE TOOK JUST A FEW PICTURES, JERKED ON A FEW WIRES, THEN RETURNED TO WHERE EVER HE CAME FROM. HE PROMISED ME A COPY OF HIS REPORT; HOWEVER, WHEN I CONTACTED DAIMLER CHRYSLER, THEY BLEW ME OFF WITH A " HEY! IT'S NOT OUR FAULT", LETTER, I TRIED CALLING THEM AND THEY STATED THAT THEY HAD NO OTHER INFORMATION FOR ME, EVEN THOUGH THEIR VEHICLE OBVIOUSLY FAILED ELECTRICALLY, AND WAS UNDER FULL WARRANTY.
