I was driving about 45-50 mph and pushed on my breaks. When i pushed on my breaks, i had no power steering and was unable to accelerate. No warning lights. I pulled over and restarted the vehicle and it was fine. Was just purchased used and driving home from dealer.
When wet or in heavy rain, the battery will shut off and the truck will lose power steering. The truck speedometer will still work and the engine will run, but the battery voltage gauge drops to 0 and the radio and power steering turn off, dangerously, leaving you to have to steer without power steering for the truck.
WHILE DRIVING MY TRUCK STRAIGHT DOWN REMEMBRANCE ROAD (SECONDARY HIGHWAY) IT STALLED, LOOSING POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. I WAS TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF APPROX 45 MPH WITH NO TURNS, COASTED TO THE SHOULDER PUT IN PARK AND RESTARTED LUCKILY THERE WAS NO OTHER TRAFFIC. TRUCK RESTARTED AND I PROCEEDED HOME. I PARKED THE TRUCK ALL SEEMED FINE. WENT OUT THE NEXT DAY AND TRUCK WOULD NOT CRANK. BATTERY LOAD CHECKED OK, IF I JUMP THE STARTER RELAY @ PIN 30 TO 87 TRUCK WILL CRANK. WHEN KEY IS TURNED ON THE DASH LIGHTS COME ON ALONG WITH RADIO, HEADLIGHTS, AND BLOWER FOR HEAT/AIR. THIS TRUCK ONLY HAS 56,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF BY ME. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THE GAS GAUGE DID NOT MOVE WHEN IGNITION KEY WAS TURNED ON EVEN THOUGH IT HAD HALF A TANK, IT WORKED FINE WHEN I PARKED IT. I HAVE SEARCHED ON LINE FOR THIS STALL CONDITION FOR MY 2005 RAM 1500 4.7L 4X4. IT APPEARS TO HAPPEN ALOT IF YOU SEARCH THIS CONDITION ON LINE WITH OTHER DODGE VEHICLES ALSO AND IS VERY DANGEROUS, WHAT IF I HAD BEEN ON THE FREEWAY DOING 70 AND LOST MY ABILITY TO STOP OR STEER THIS VEHICLE OUT OF HARMS WAY. WELL THE MOST OBVIOUS ANSWER, I WOULDN'T BE HERE WRITING THIS COMPLAINT. I AM SO UPSET, AS A CANCER SURVIVOR AND ALL I WENT THROUGH WITH THAT, IT WOULD BE A SORRY WAY TO BE INJURED OR DIE. I HAVE INSTRUCTED MY LOVE ONES TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST DODGE SHOULD I DIE BECAUSE OF THIS TRUCKS ISSUE OF LOOSING POWER. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT NEEDS RESOLVED BY A RECALL OR AT LEAST A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION OF THE ROOT CAUSE. I BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED TO THE PCM. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY FAMILY ENROUTE TO SOUTH CAROLINA WHEN I STARTED HEARING A NOISE AND FELT A LITTLE VIBRATION ON THE PEDAL AT FIRST I THOUGHT I MAY HAVE RAN OVER SOMETHING. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I JUST HEARD A BOOM AND THE TRUCK JUST STARTED FISH TAILIN. LUCKILY THERE WERENT ANY VEHICLES AROUND ME AT THE TIME, I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE SHOULDER. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE THE DRIVE SHAFT HAD COME COMPLETELY OUT AND THERE WAS SMOKE AND OIL LEAKING. WHEN WE GOT THE TRUCK TO THE SHOP AND THEY LOOKED IT OVER THE PINION HAD COME COMPLETELY A LOOSE THE SEAL WAS SHOT AND CHUNKS OF THE GEARS INSIDE WAS MANGLED, THE TRANSFER CASE WAS CRACKED FROM THE IMPACT OF WHEN THE DRIVE SHAFT CAME APART. I ALSO LEARNED THAT THE TRUCK HAD A RECALL ON IT FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. I MANAGED TO GET THE TRUCK TOWED BACK TO NY TO MY MECHANIC SHOP. WHERE WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET DODGE TO DO SOMETHING ENREGARD TO THE REPAIRS. WHAT WE HAVE BEEN TOLD WAS THAT THE RECALL DOESNT INCLUDE MY MONTH! MY YEAR MAKE AND MODEL BUT NOT MY MONTH. YET I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AS WHAT IS STATED IN THE RECALL.

THE FRAME ON MY DODGE RAM HAS BROKEN WELDS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FRAME WHERE THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS MOUNT TO THE FRAME. THEY HAVE FAILED DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECTS DURING THE WELDING PROCESS. THE TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN WRECKED, DRIVEN OFF ROAD, OR DONE ANY TOWING. DODGE REFUSES ANY ASSISTANCE IN REPLACING THE FRAME BECAUSE IT HAS AGED OUT OF THEIR WARRANTY. THE TRUCK HAS 74,138 MILES ON IT AND IS NOT DRIVABLE WITHOUT A NEW FRAME. I HAD THE TRUCK IN TWICE UNDER WARRANTY SERVICE FOR DRIVABILITY ISSUES UNDER BRAKING AND STEERING OVER BUMPS. NEITHER TIME WERE THE CRACKS IN THE FRAME FOUND OR ADDRESSED. EVERY TIME THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY AND IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I FOUND THE DAMAGE WHILE CHANGING THE OIL AND WAS ABOUT TO REPLACE THE FRT HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SINCE THE DRIVER'S SIDE HAD ALREADY FAILED AND HAD BEEN REPLACED EARLIER. CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK HAD AGED OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT THAT TAKING IT TO A DEALER THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO FIND A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN THAT MAY COVER IT. I GOOGLED TSB'S AND FOUND ONE ON THE 2006 DODGE RAM FRAMES FOR THE EXACT SAME AREA AFFECTED ON MY TRUCK, BUT DODGE STILL WON'T ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS FOR OVER SIX MONTHS AND WANT MY TRUCK FIXED OR REPLACED.

THERE HAVE BEEN 5 RECALLS ON MY DODGE RAM. THE AIRBAGS MAY RUPTURE IN 2015, THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT MAY LOOSEN AT THE DIFFERENTIAL (POWERTRAIN) IN 2014, AGAIN THE AIRBAGS INFLATOR MAY RUPTURE IN 2014, THE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY (WHEELS) IN 2010, ALSO A RECALL FOR THE AFTER MARKET REPLACEMENT PITMAN ARMS (STEERING) IN 2010. I HAVE GONE TO MY CHRYSLER DEALER IN LAS CRUCES, NEW MEXICO; THE DODGE DEALER HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR A FEW YEARS NOW. I HAVE BEEN TOLD I HAVE TO HAVE A NOTIFICATION FROM CHRYSLER/DODGE TO HAVE THEM JUST TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT, MUCH LESS FIX THE PROBLEMS. NOW THERE IS A HUGE RECALL; THIS IS NOW REALLY GOTTEN SERIOUS. PLEASE HELP ME AS MUCH AS YOU CAN TO TAKE CARE OF THE MALFUNCTIONS ON MY DODGE RAM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I HAVE NOT TAKEN THE DODGE ON LONG DISTANCE ROAD TRIPS FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS NOW. STEERING STICKS AND VERY LOOSE WHILE DRIVING FEEL LIKE THE TRUCK IS VERY HARD TO KEEP IN LINE, ALSO THE WAY IT RUST IS HORRIBLE AFTER LOOKING AT A LOT OF DODGES ON THE THEY ALL SEEM TO BE RUSTING IN THE SAME SPOTS.

IN MARCH 2015 I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT MY TRUCK HAD A RECALL INVOLVING THE REAR AXLE. AS SOON AS I RECEIVED THIS NOTICE, I STOPPED DRIVING MY TRUCK. IN ADDITION, WHILE SEARCHING MY VIN # ON YOUR SITE, I FOUND THAT MY TRUCK HAD ANOTHER RECALL. THIS RECALL INVOLVES THE AIR BAGS. MY TRUCK IS MY FAMILY'S ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. SINCE I DON'T HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE, I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO BORROW MY PARENTS AND SIBLINGS VEHICLES. I EVEN HAVE BEEN FORCED TO TAKE THE BUS. I FEEL THAT THESE RECALLS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RESOLVED ALREADY. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO HELP ME WITH THIS SITUATION? IVE TRIED ALL TYPES OF REPAIRS, AND SPENT ALOT OF MONEY TRYING TO FIX THIS ISSUE WITH NO AVAIL. I TOOK IT INTO DODGE AFTER I FIRST BOUGHT THE TRUCK AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I TOOK IT IN AGAIN AND THEY CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY. STILL SAME ISSUE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALER COULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT AND THEY COULD NOT GET AUTHORIZATION FROM CHRYSLER TO DO ANYTHING. THIS TRUCK IS UNDER FULL WARRANTY AND WITH THIS ISSUE I CAN'T SELL IT OR ANYTHING. THIS IS A $35,000 LEMON AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED, I ALSO OWN A 2003 RAM AND HAVE NO ISSUES WITH IT. ONE MORE THING THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THIS ISSUE IS DUE TO THE SIZE OF THE TIRES THAT ARE FACTORY INSTALLED. I HAVE HAD (2)TWO CLOSE CALLS FROM A 2005 DODGE RAM 1500 DUE TO EQUIPMENT FAILURES. (1) THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED DURING A SNOWSTORM AND SKIDDED ME OFF THE ROAD. (2) RECENTLY WITH JUST 44,000 MILES ON THE RAM THE WHEELBEARINGS SEIZED AND THE DRIVERSIDE TIRE BLOWOUT SENDING ME AGAIN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD INTO A SMALL CULVERT. EVEN THOUGH UNDER WARRANTY DODGE IS DELAYING FIXING IT BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THESE EQUIPMENT FAILURES. AT 37,000 MILES I LOST CONTROL OF MY 2005 DODGE RAM 1500 TRUCK AND WENT OFF THE ROAD. I COULD NOT READILY EXPLAIN THE REASON BUT I ASSUMED I HAD DROPPED OFF ONTO A LOW SHOULDER. AFTER GETTING THE BODY REPAIRED I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIE RODS ON MY 2005 DODGE TRUCK WERE "SEVERELY" WARN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS A CONDITION THAT WAS NOT NOTICED BY THE DEALERS AT THE 30K OR 34K SERVICE. THERE IS A SERVICE NOTICE ON A IMPROPERLY TIGHTENED NUT BUT I AM NOT SURE IF IT IS RELATED. STEERING IS A SAFETY SYSTEM ON A CAR. THE CHANGE TO PERMANENTLY LUBRICATED LINKAGES IS CREATING PREMATURE WEAR RESULTING IN UNEXPECTED UNSAFE SITUATIONS. DODGE SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO COVER STEERING IN THEIR WARRANTY AND EXTENDED WARRANTY AND/OR RETURN TO A SERVICEABLE PARTY. I BELIEVE THESE TIE RODS ARE INAPPROPRIATELY DESIGNED FOR THIS APPLICATION AND POSE A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK TO THE OCCUPANTS. *TR

TRUCK SWERVED TO MISS A DEAR IN THE ROAD, WHEN TURNING BACK, LEFT FRONT WHEEL CAME OFF TRUCK, SPINDLE SHAFT BROKE AT BEARING, CAUSING TRUCK TO ROLL OVER, TRUCK WAS TOTALED AND DRIVER INJURED, A COUPLE SMALL CONTUSIONS, HIT HEAD AND BRUISED ELBOW. TRUCK HAD 12000 MILES ON IT. NO CORRECTION TAKEN, TRUCK IS TOTALED. WHEN WHEEL CAME OFF TRUCK, TRUCK WAS STARTING TO SKID, WHEEL DID NOT COME INTO CONTACT WITH ANYTHING BUT THE PAVED SURFACE, WAS NOT STRUCK BY ANYTHING. I BELIEVE THE SPINDLE SHAFT FAILED, WITCH SHOULD NOT FAIL UNDER SUCH CONDITIONS, I AM A CERTIFIED FORD TECHNICIAN. IT SHOULD TAKE A VERY HARD IMPACT FOR THE SPINDLE TO FAIL IF AT ALL. *NM

2005 DODGE RAM 1500 EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH PREMATURE TIRE WEAR, RUSTED COMPONENTS UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, LOOSE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, TRANSMISSION SHIFTING, SPEEDOMETER INACCURATE, AND PROBLEMS WITH THE BODY PAINT. *MR THE RIDE HEIGHT WAS LOW IN THE FRONT, THERE WAS STIFF SUSPENSION, THERE WAS A LOOSE STRIP RUBBER ABOVE THE LEFT DOOR, THE SUSPENSION BAR MAY HAVE BEEN CRACKED, THERE WAS ABNORMAL SCALLOPING ON THE FRONT TIRE OUTSIDE TREAD, THERE WAS AN EXHAUST PIPE LEAK, THE EXHAUST SYSTEM COMPONENTS SHOWED SIGNS OF OVERHEATING. THE LOWER PORTION OF THE RIGHT SIDE STEERING KNUCKLE SHOWED A VISIBLE LINE THAT COULD POSSIBLY CRACK. THE ENGINE IDLING WAS HARSH WHEN MOVING THE SHIFT INTO REVERSE. *SC *JB
