Pinion separated from front drivers' side of truck while driving, almost causing accident.
I was driving on a highway when all of a sudden I heard what I thought to be a blow out (tire) ,as I pulled over on shoulder with difficulty I looked in mirror and saw a part has fallen off, later retrieved with tow truck driver, part being a driveshaft. Rear end had seized as I maneuvered my veh. As far on shoulder as possible, I feel fortunate for outcome of incident. I had gotten a tow to my resident now not sure what my next step is to do, any advise would be helpful. Thank you

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GET AN ALIGNMENT AND THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FRONT SUSPENSION, CONTROL ARM AND TIE ROD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE NOW EXPERIENCING A RATTLING NOISE WHILE DRIVING SINCE HE HIT THE POTHOLES. THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 180,000.

09/01/2017 TRAVELING EAST BOUND ON HWY 12 IN SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY AT 11:30 PM WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH IN BETWEEN 2 JERSEY WALLS I TURNED LEFT AND HIT THE BRAKES HARD TO AVOID A BROKEN DOWN VEHICLE. (NOTE BROKEN DOWN VEHICLE HAD NO FLASHERS, FLAIRS OR ANY OTHER WARNING) WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I STARTED BOUNCING BACK AND FORTH OFF THE WALLS. AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, I WAS AIRBORNE AT ONE POINT & ACTUALLY THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE AND WHEN I CAME TO A STOP I WAS FACING THE WRONG DIRECTION ON THE HWY.. I STARTED MY VEHICLE TO MOVE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND IT WOULDN'T MOVE. I PROCEEDED TO WALK AROUND THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WAS MISSING.I BELIEVE WHEN MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR THAT'S WHEN I LOST THE WHEEL. CHP CALLED TOW TRUCK AND SAID SOLO NON INJURY ACCIDENT NO REPORT NEEDED I DIDN'T REALIZE AND NOW IT'S BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE AXLE SHAFT BROKE ON A WELD AND LOOKS LIKE THERE WERE AIR BUBBLES IN THE STEEL.I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE HAD ANY OTHER ISSUES WITH AXLE SHAFTS, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A CLAIM. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME AND NO ASSISTANCE WAS MADE AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. SECONDLY, A RECALL WAS ALSO GIVEN FOR A FAILED ELECTRICAL SWITCH PERTAINING TO IGNITION SWITCH AND HEATER BLOWER MOTOR. MINE ALSO FAILED IN A CLOUD OF SMOKE AND SMELL OF BURNING ELECTRICAL COMPONENT. I HAVE BOTH FAILED COMPONENTS, CURRENTLY AND WOULD LIKE TO BE INCLUDED IN THESE RECALLS.

I HAVE BEEN CALLING ED VOYLES RAM IN MARIETTA GA FOR OVER 5 MONTHS REGARDING 2 RECALLS (REAR AXLE PINION NUT P77 / NHTSA 14V-796 & DRIVER AIRBAG INFLATOR R25 / NHTSA 15V-313) EVERY TIME I CALL ITS ALWAYS THE SAME RESPONSE, "NO PARTS", AND NO IDEA WHEN PARTS WILL ARRIVE. HOW LONG SHOULD THIS TAKE?

THE FRAME ON MY DODGE RAM HAS BROKEN WELDS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FRAME WHERE THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS MOUNT TO THE FRAME. THEY HAVE FAILED DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECTS DURING THE WELDING PROCESS. THE TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN WRECKED, DRIVEN OFF ROAD, OR DONE ANY TOWING. DODGE REFUSES ANY ASSISTANCE IN REPLACING THE FRAME BECAUSE IT HAS AGED OUT OF THEIR WARRANTY. THE TRUCK HAS 74,138 MILES ON IT AND IS NOT DRIVABLE WITHOUT A NEW FRAME. I HAD THE TRUCK IN TWICE UNDER WARRANTY SERVICE FOR DRIVABILITY ISSUES UNDER BRAKING AND STEERING OVER BUMPS. NEITHER TIME WERE THE CRACKS IN THE FRAME FOUND OR ADDRESSED. EVERY TIME THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY AND IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I FOUND THE DAMAGE WHILE CHANGING THE OIL AND WAS ABOUT TO REPLACE THE FRT HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SINCE THE DRIVER'S SIDE HAD ALREADY FAILED AND HAD BEEN REPLACED EARLIER. CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK HAD AGED OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT THAT TAKING IT TO A DEALER THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO FIND A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN THAT MAY COVER IT. I GOOGLED TSB'S AND FOUND ONE ON THE 2006 DODGE RAM FRAMES FOR THE EXACT SAME AREA AFFECTED ON MY TRUCK, BUT DODGE STILL WON'T ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS FOR OVER SIX MONTHS AND WANT MY TRUCK FIXED OR REPLACED.

ON JANUARY 26, 2014, MY TRUCK WITH ONLY 59,000 MILES EXPERIENCED SUDDEN CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL BEARING HUB ASSEMBLY. THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL BEARING HUB FAILURE RESULTED IN COMPLETE SEPARATION OF THE WHEEL HUB AND ASSEMBLY FROM THE TRUCK. THIS MAJOR FAILURE IS SIMILAR TO TWO PREVIOUS NHTSA RECALLS ON DODGE RAM 1500 TRUCKS AS OUTLINED BELOW. FROM MY REVIEW OF DODGE MESSAGE BOARDS, THIS APPEARS TO BE A BROADER ISSUE THAN COVERED BY THE TWO PREVIOUS NHTSA RECALLS. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DODGE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID MY TRUCK WAS NOT WITHIN THE TWO RECALL CLASSES. I BELIEVE THIS IS A BROADER ISSUE AND REQUEST THE NHTSA TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE TO SAVE THE LIVES OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE PURCHASED THIS TRUCK. TWO PREVIOUS RECALL EFFORTS: 1) THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS 07V-038 (OR 07V038000). DAIMLERCHRYSLER'S DODGE DIVISION IS RECALLING 86,333 OF ITS POPULAR RAM 1500 PICKUP TRUCKS DUE TO A POTENTIAL FAILURE OF THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING HUB ASSEMBLY. THE RECALL, UNDER THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA), INVOLVES EVERY RAM LIGHT-DUTY 2006 MODEL YEAR TRUCK MANUFACTURED BETWEEN NOVEMBER 7, 2005 AND APRIL 27, 2006. THREE PLANTS' OUTPUT IS INVOLVED: SALTILLO, MEXICO; FENTON, MISSOURI; WARREN, MICHIGAN. 2) NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10E040000 : FEDERAL-MOGUL IS RECALLING CERTAIN CARQUEST, NATIONAL, AND PERCISION BRAND WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLIES, P/NOS 515073 AND 515073, SOLD FOR USE AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT ON MODEL YEAR 2002 THROUGH 2008 DODGE RAM 1500 PICKUP TRUCKS. THE INBOARD ROLL FORM USED TO MAINTAIN THE HUB ASSEMBLY CAN FATIGUE RESULTING IN NOISE AND/OR WHEEL SEPARATION ON THE TWO WHEEL DRIVE (2WD) APPLICATIONS. DRIVING DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER EVENT, HEARD A POP IN THE AREA OF THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. ASSUMED IT WAS ICE OR SNOW. WITHIN THE NEXT 20 MILES, SLIGHT VIBRATION BEGAN AND GRINDING NOISE HEARD. PARKED VEHICLE FOR WEEK WHILE OUT OF TOWN. RETURNED DROVE TO WORK, APPROX 22 MILES, PROBLEM PERSISTED AND GOT WORSE, THIS WAS DURING ANOTHER SNOW EVENT. DECIDED TO SEEK ASSISTANCE FROM LOCAL DEALERSHIP, REFUSED IMMEDIATE ATTENTION, SET UP APPOINTMENT FOR JAN. 4, 2010. CALLED LOCAL REPAIR SHOP NEAR HOME. COULD GET ME IN IMMEDIATELY. ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE TO REPAIR SHOP. RIGHT FROM WHEEL BEARING FAILED, CAUSING DAMAGE TO HUB AND AXLE. HAD TO BE HAULED IN BECAUSE THE WHEEL SEPARATED FROM AXLE. CAUSED TIRE TO RIDE UP INTO UPPER CONTROL ARM AND DESTROYED TIRE. SEARCHED INTERNET AND FOUND THAT 2006 DODGE RAMS HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND THAT 2002 THRU 2008 DODGE RAMS THAT HAD REPLACEMENTS WITH SPECIFIC BRANDS HAD BEEN RECALLED. MY VEHICLE HAD ONLY 53,412 MILES ON IT WHEN THE BEARING ASSEMBLY FAILED. IT HAS COST ME OVER $600 IN REPAIRS THAT WERE NOT COVERED BY THE "70,000 MILE LIMITED DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY." THE REPLACED PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AND IN MY POSSESSION. IT SEEMS TO ME THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON OCCURRENCE IN DODGE PICKUPS OF MANY MODEL YEARS INCLUDING 2005 BOTH 2 AND 4 WHEEL DRIVE. *TR

RACK AND PINION LEAKING WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THE POWER STEERING PUMP, WHICH USES THE SAME FLUID AS THE RACK AND PINION--BOTH HAVE TO BE REPAIRED AND REPLACED. THE TIE RODS ARE BROKEN AND CONNECTED TO THE RACK AND PINION FLUID, WHICH ULTIMATELY LED TO THE TIERODS BREAKING DUE TO FLUID LEAKAGE. WE ARE ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION, NOT SHIFTING INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE--OUR PRIOR VEHICLE WAS ALSO A DODGE RAM 1500, IN WHICH WE HAD TIE ROD ISSUES AND MAJOR AUTOMATIC POWER TRANSMISSION AND POWER STEERING FLUID ISSUES. THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL BROKE OFF AT LOW SPEED. SEEMS THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM (AXLE) JUST SNAPPED IN TWO. NO OTHER VEHICLES WHERE INVOLVED, POT HOLES OR CURB. THE WHEEL BROKE OFF PULLING EVERYTHING APART INSIDE THE WHEEL WELL EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKE LINE. THE TRUCK LANDED ON TOP OF THE WHEEL PREVENTING IT FROM FLIPPING OVER. I SPOKE WITH CHRYSLER DODGE AND ALL THOUGH ADMITTING THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM SHOULD NEVER BREAK SAID THAT IT WASN'T A DEFECTED PART BECAUSE I HADN'T HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP . THIS WAS A VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM. IF IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN FOR ONLY DOING 15MPH WHEN IT HAPPENED IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY AND POSSIBLE DEATH. DODGE HAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH FAULTY BALL JOINTS BUT DON'T SEEM TO CARE ALL THOUGH THIS MAY HAVE BEEN A PRELIMINARY PROBLEM LEADING UP TO THE AXLE BREAKING IN TWO. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS WEARING A SAFETY RESTRAINT AND RECEIVED NO INJURIES. THERE WAS CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES INVOLVED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT CONCERNING BRAKE PROBLEMS. THE DEALER HAD PREVIOUSLY REPLACED THE REAR AXLE, REAR BRAKES, REAR BRAKE DRUM, REAR BRAKE PADS, BRAKE SHOES, LININGS AND ALSO THE REAR SPRING. THE DEALER STATED NO ADDITIONAL REPAIRS COULD BE COMPLETED UNTIL THE MANUFACTURER RELEASED OTHER TSB'S. THE POLICE FILED A REPORT AT THE SCENE.

THE MANUFACTURER SENT A FIELD REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. HE FOUND A BROKEN AXLE, WHICH CAUSED THE TIRE SEPARATION. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO FIX THE VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY. THEREFORE, THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE . THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HAD NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD, AND THERE WERE NO POT HOLES WHERE THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. WE PURCHASED THE CAR ON 6/30/05.ON 7/4/05, MY DAYGHTERS FRIEND WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, WHEN HE HEARD A LOUD BANG.THINKING THAT THERE WAS A FLAT TIRE, HE PROCEEDED TO MOVE INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. NO SOONER HAD HE DONE THIS, THE VEHICLE BEGAN BUCKING, WENT AIRBORNE, AND FLIPPED A MINIMUM OF 3 TIMES.NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.THANKFULLY HE WASNT INJURED, BUT HIS PASSENGER WAS. HE HAD A SMALL GASH IN HIS HEAD WHICH REQUIRED 2 STAPLES.
2005 DODGE RAM 1500 EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH PREMATURE TIRE WEAR, RUSTED COMPONENTS UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, LOOSE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, TRANSMISSION SHIFTING, SPEEDOMETER INACCURATE, AND PROBLEMS WITH THE BODY PAINT. *MR THE RIDE HEIGHT WAS LOW IN THE FRONT, THERE WAS STIFF SUSPENSION, THERE WAS A LOOSE STRIP RUBBER ABOVE THE LEFT DOOR, THE SUSPENSION BAR MAY HAVE BEEN CRACKED, THERE WAS ABNORMAL SCALLOPING ON THE FRONT TIRE OUTSIDE TREAD, THERE WAS AN EXHAUST PIPE LEAK, THE EXHAUST SYSTEM COMPONENTS SHOWED SIGNS OF OVERHEATING. THE LOWER PORTION OF THE RIGHT SIDE STEERING KNUCKLE SHOWED A VISIBLE LINE THAT COULD POSSIBLY CRACK. THE ENGINE IDLING WAS HARSH WHEN MOVING THE SHIFT INTO REVERSE. *SC *JB
