I purchased my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 truck around May 2022 at a used car lot. It had low mileage so I thought I did great. Immediately after I brought it home, it began to die. I figured it had a really old battery so I purchased a new one. This one would last around 3 days instead of the one day before dying. I would drive it and jump it over and over. I tried to contact the dealer over and over but they would not respond to my calls. I wrote a terrible review about them in Yelp and they contacted me immediately, but when I attempted to schedule a time to drop the truck back off, they stopped responding again. About 9 months later the truck stopped turning over all together. We found that the fuel pump was the issue. It sat for a year until I had it towed to the mechanic, who fixed the fuel pump, but found that the car would only run for a few seconds. He continued to diagnose it, and after weeks, he tells me that there is something terribly faulty with the electrical system, but he is stumped as to what it is. He says he does not see where anyone has tampered with the system at all, but there is something mysterious about the electrical component. I have put so much money into this truck including having to pay insurance and a high monthly payment for a dead truck. Please help me. I can provide documents after I meet with mechanic who still has truck.

The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel pump relay had failed and informed the contact that there was a recall for the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V115000 (Electrical System) however, neither the VIN nor the vehicle was included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

RADIO IN TRUCK STAYS ON WHILE TRUCK IS OFF AND THE KEYS ARE NOT IN THE IGNITION FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. MAKES A DINGING SOUND WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED WHEN THE TRUCK IS OFF AND KEYS ARE OUT OF THE IGNITION. DOORS WON'T LOCK WITH THE KEY BATTERY OPENER DURING HOT TEMPERATURES OUTSIDE. THE TRUCK IS STATIONARY DURING THESE TIMES AND HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. UNKNOWN.

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THEY HEARD A LEAKING AIR NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE'S DASHBOARD WAS BURNED AND THE VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE REMAINED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I PURCHASED MY CURRENT TRUCK BAND NEW AND HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. I PLACE THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION AND IT DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO TURN THE KEY TO CRANK THE TRUCK. IT ACTS AS IF THE ANTI LOCKING DEVICE IS KEEPING THE KEY FROM TURNING. MY PREVIOUS DODGE RAM 1500 PICKUP I PURCHASED NEW HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAD TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH AT MY OWN COST. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL RECALLS WITH OTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCTS DOING THE SAME EXACT THING. IT APPEARS TO BE A REOCCURRING PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE STATIONARY POSITION AND HAS LEFT ME STRANDED. I HAVE SEEN YOUTUBE VIDEO OF THE PERSON TAPPING ON THE END OF THE KEY WHILE IN THE IGNITION WHICH SEEMS TO WORK ON OCCASION.

WIRING WAS ALL IN OEM STATE, FOUND NO STANDOFFS PRESENT TO KEEP HARNESS OFF CHASSIS ON HORIZONTAL RUN, STANDIFFS ARE PRESENT IN VERTICAL RUN BY OIL FILTER. REPLACED SECTION OF HARNESS AND DOCUMENTED WITH PICTURES. THIS IS A HAZARD TO ALL DODGE OWNERS, FLAME IN VERY CLOSE PROXIMITY TO OIL FILTER. I HAVE DOCUMENTED ALL WITH PHOTOS AND REQUEST COMPENSATION FOR MY WORK TO REPAIR.

I OPENED THE COVER TO THE TIPM AND NOTICED WHITE POWDER, ACID. THE NEGATIVE LEAD WHICH IS ALSO CONNECTED TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE TIPM HAD WHITE POWDER RESIDUE ON THE CONNECTOR. I TRIED ONCE AGAIN TO START THE VEHICLE BUT ONLY CRANKED. THEN SOME SMOKE WAS OBSERVED COMING FROM THE TIPM. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED AND MADE SURE NOTHING WAS STILL BURNING. I READ ON LINE THAT TIPM FAILURE IS COMMON WITH MY VEHICLE AND OTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCTS BUT A RECALL WAS NOT ISSUED. THIS COULD HAVE TURNED INTO A SAFETY ISSUE IF MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO CATCH FIRE. I HAVE TO SPEND $100 IN TOWING COST AND ~$800 TO REPAIR.

DIDN'T LEAVE THE DEALERS LOT AND THE TRUCK WAS STILL SHIFTING INTO 4WD ON ITS OWN. BACK TO THE GARAGE IT WENT. I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THE TRUCK WOULD HAVE A BUILT IN SAFETY SO THAT IT CAN NOT SHIFT INTO 4WD LOW AT HIGH SPEEDS... BEEN TOLD IT COULD BE THE AC PRESSURE SWITCH, TIPM, TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR MOTOR. AWAITING TRANSFER CASE MOTOR TO BE REPLACED AT THE MOMENT. STILL WAITING FOR DEALER TO SAY THAT IT IS FIXED. THE TRUCK IS PRESENTING UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS AND THE DEALERSHIP CAN'T FIND WHATS WRONG WITH IT. THE PROBLEM STILL HAPPENS AS OF 9/20/15. DEALER HAS HAD MY TRUCK SINCE 8/26/15 AND STILL HAS IT AS OF 9/20/15.

WHILE DRIVING DURING NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE WILL BEGIN TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT RESTARTED BUT IT NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. WENT DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT 1/2 A MILE WHEN HE DIED AND I WAS UNABLE TO RESTART IT. HAD IT TOWED TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THE MAP SENSOR WAS ONCE AGAIN BAD. THEY REPLACED THE MAP SENSOR THIS TIME AND EVERYTHING WAS WELL FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. WHEN ONCE AGAIN THE TRUCK DID THE SAME THING. TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP ONCE AGAIN THE FAULT CODE WAS THE MAP SENSOR. UPON THEM DIGGING FURTHER THEY FOUND THE PCM WAS ACTUALLY SHORTING OUT THE MAP SENSOR. SO THEY REPLACED THE PCM. THE NEW ONE CAME IN AND THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO REPROGRAM IT. THEY CONTACTED DAIMLER-CHYRSLER WHO SENT THEM ANOTHER PCM THEY RECEIVED THAT ONE AND STILL ARE UNABLE TO REPROGRAM THE PCM. SO THAT'S 3 MAP SENSOR'S AND NOW 2 PCM'S. *TR

I LOOKED THROUGH THE CAB BUT COULD NOT LOCATE THE SOURCE. I OPENED THE HOOD OF MY TRUCK AND THERE WERE NO SIGNS WHAT SO EVER OF SMOKE OR FIRE. I WENT BACK TO THE CAB AND INSPECTED THE BACK SEAT AREA OF THE TRUCK. (QUAD CAB) I NOTICED A FAINT ORANGE GLOW AGAINST THE LOWER BODY OF THE TRUCK. I STARTED TO INSPECT THE LEFT REAR DOOR PANEL AND FELT THE HEAT. WHEN I GRABBED THE LOWER SECTION OF THE INTERIOR PANEL MELTING AND ON FIRE PLASTIC STARTED TO DRIP. I RAN INTO THE STORE AND GRABBED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. ANOTHER CUSTOMER AT THE STORE DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. THE TRUCK WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. ALTHOUGH THE BODY SHOP STATED THE THE SOURCE OF THE FIRE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BE DETERMINED THE TECHNICIAN WORKING ON MY TRUCK STATED THE SOURCE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT WITH THE POWER WINDOW SWITCH. THE DOOR AND CARPET WILL BE REPLACED AS WELL AS ANY OTHER PARTS DAMAGED BY THE FIRE. I WILL HAVE TO PAY THE $500 COMPREHENSIVE DEDUCTIBLE. I PURCHASED A RAM 1500, FROM DAY ONE THERE WAS PROBLEMS THE PASSENGER DOOR STAYED AJAR DUE TO BAD SENSOR SAYS DEALERSHIP LEAVING INTERIOR LIGHTS ON AT ALL TIMES AND WOULD DING EVERYTIME I TOOK OFF FROM A STOP. THEY SAID THAT THE CLUSTER WAS BAD SO THEY REPLACED IT WITH ONE THAT READ IN KILOMETERS INSTEAD OF MPH. LATER THEY REPLACED IT WITH A CLUSTER THAT READ IN MPH. TRANSMISSION GRINDS GEARS WHEN PUT IN REVERSE AND JUMPS WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE. ALSO TRANSMISSION SLIPS TO LOWER GEARS WHEN DRIVING THROWING ME FORWARD INTO THE DASH MULTIPLE TIMES. NOTHING HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN REPAIRING THE TRANSMISSION AS OF YET ALTHOUGH THEY SAY THAT THEY REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION. *TR

THE TRUCK WOULDN'T START. THERE WAS PLENTY OF POWER FROM THE BATTERY FOR THE LIGHTS, BELLS AND HORN BUT THE TRUCK WOULDN'T MAKE A SINGLE SOUND. BY PULLING AN IGNITION FUSE TO SEE IF BLOWN I ACCIDENTALLY RESET A CONTROL MODULE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS WORKED FOR A WHILE BUT EVENTUALLY THAT TRICK NO LONGER WORKED AND I HAD TO CALL THE FREE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE I GOT BY BUYING THE TRUCK. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS BRAND NEW WITH LESS THAN 1,000 MILES. THE OWNER TOOK IT TO A FRIEND'S HOUSE, PARKED IT IN DRIVEWAY. SEVERAL MINUTES LATER A NEIGHBOR NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. IT EVENTUALLY ERUPTED INTO FLAMES THAT CAUGHT PART OF THE HOUSE ON FIRE. I HAVE TRACED THE FAILURE TO A DEFECT FROM WITHIN THE POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE AND BATTERY POSITIVE FEED FOR THE SAME. *JB
