My trucks ignition switch just stops turing my truck on I've seen multiple complaints about the same issue leaves you stranded
the shifter began changing gears on its own. Before the recall came out my mechanic checked and there was no recall for this until 2018. I was never notified of the recall. Then on rear axle pinion nut. The nuts were installed without the proper amount of adhesive. Consequently, the nuts can loosen, and cause the rear axle to lock up, causing a loss of vehicle control. I was never notified of and the rear end came down while on the freeway. The fuel tank began leaking I repaired this before the recall came out. I submitted a reimbursement request they denied me stating my car was over 7 years old.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE AND AN UNKNOWN MODULE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE SAME DEALER HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 198,000.

IN 2020 MY 2009 DODGE RAM 1500 4X4 BEGAN CHUCKING AND LURCHING WHEN CORNERING. I PARKED THE TRUCK AT HOME AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE SHOP. THE MECHANICS PULLED THE REAR AXLE APART AND FOUND SHAVINGS AND LARGE CHUNKS OUT OF THE PINION GEAR AND SUBSEQUENTLY MANY OF THE OTHER GEARS AND COMPONENTS IN THE REAR AXLE. THE MECHANIC SAID I WAS LUCKY IT DID NOT LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING. BEING THAT I PURCHASED IT USED DODGE DID NOTHING TO HELP ME. MY AFTER MARKET WARRANTY WAS OUT, SO I HAD TO PAY OVER $2,200 OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE IT REBUILT BECAUSE DODGE STOPPED MANUFACTURING THE AXLE ASSEMBLY OF THE 3.92 GEAR RATIO. I GOT IT BACK AND DROVE IT MINIMALLY FOR THE PAST SIX MONTHS. TODAY 3/16/2021 I DECIDED TO DRAIN AND REFILL THE REAR AXLE WITH THE SPECIFIED DODGE LUBRICANTS. WHILE DRAINING THE AXLE FLUID I FOUND A SHARD OF METAL APPROXIMATELY 1" X 1/8" X 1/16". VERY DISAPPOINTED. NOW I AM LOOKING AT ANOTHER $2,200 REBUILD AND THE LOSS IF MY VEHICLE AGAIN FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND DODGE NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL TO ALL DODGE OWNERS WHOM THIS AFFECTS, NOT JUST ORIGINAL OWNERS. I HAVE REPAIR RECIEPT DUCUMENTATION IF NEEDED.

THE VEHICLE DIES AND EVERYTHING BECOMES DISABLED INCLUDING ALL OUTSIDE LIGHTS INCLUDING THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS. ENGINE TURNS OFF AND THEN WILL NO RESTART. SOMETIMES THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT BUT LATER COMPLETELY FAILS. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN 2 YEARS THAT THIS TRUCK HAS DIED. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED ON A FOGGY NIGHT. TH ENGINE AND ALL LIGHTS TURNED OFF AT CRUISING SPEED LEAVING ONLY SOME INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS ON WHICH ENDS UP BEIN EVEN MORE OF A DISTRACTION FROM THE SUDDEN OUTSIDE DARKNESS. AFTER TRYING TO FIND THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN THE DARKNESS, THEN YOUR EMERGENCY FLASHERS DO NOT WORK LEAVING THE TRUCK JUST A DARK TARGET IN THE ROAD. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. RECENTLY THIS SAME TRUCK DIED A SECOND TIME BUT THANKFULLY AFTER FILLING UP A A GAS STATION. AFTER A QUICK SEARCH ONLINE, THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY MANY DODGE RAM OWNERS FROM 2009 TO 2016 MAYBE NEWER VEHICLES AND ALSO OTHER MODELS. THE DEALER REFERS TO THE PROBLEM BEING WITH A TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM). I JUST READ THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS FILED ALREADY EVEN WITH THE NHTSA. CERTIFIED MECHANIC SAYS IT IS THE FRONT PINION BEARING THAT WENT OUT CAUSING THE TIRES TO LOCK UP. IT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS GOING AT A RELATIVELY SLOW SPEED BUT I DID SLIDE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC.

AFTER ALMOST BEING REAR ENDED DUE TO MY ABRUPT DROP IN SPEED I WAS ABLE TO COAST AND THEN BRAKE TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE BUSY HWY. THERE WAS A RECALL AROUND 2012-2013 FOR 2009 DODGE RAM 1500 PICK UP TRUCKS BECAUSE SOME PINION NUTS COULD COME LOOSE. I HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED AS SOON AS I RECEIVED THE NOTICE. THE FIX FOR THIS WAS TO INSTALL A RETAINER THAT WOULD NOT ALLOW THE NUT TO LOOSEN. THIS WEEK, 12/16/19, I WENT TO REPLACE MY PINION SEAL AS I NOTICED LEAKING AT THE SHAFT. I FEEL THAT THE RETAINER THAT WAS USED TO HOLD THE NUT IN PLACE IS DEFECTIVE AND NOT A SUFFICIENT FIX AS THE NUT HAS DEFINITELY MOVED SINCE THE RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED. THERE ARE MOST LIKELY STILL TRUCKS ON THE ROAD WHERE A DANGEROUS CONDITION IS BEGINNING TO DEVELOP AGAIN. I NOTICED THAT THE PINION NUT HAD ONLY ONE THREAD SHOWING AND TOOK VERY LITTLE FORCE TO REMOVE. AS I DID NOT KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THE RETAINER "HOLDING" THE NUT IN PLACE, I USED A HAMMER AND A PUNCH TO TRY TO SPIN IT. THE RETAINER AND THE NUT MOVED WITH VERY LITTLE EFFORT. THERE WAS ONLY ONE THREAD ON THE SHAFT SHOWING BEFORE I LOOSENED IT. I CALLED A DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN THE NEXT MORNING. THE NUTS ON THESE ARE ALL INDIVIDUALLY ADJUSTED UNTIL THE BEARING YIELDS A CERTAIN RESISTANCE AND THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE WITH THE COMPONENTS IN THE REAR OF THE DIFFERENTIAL REMOVED. THE SERVICE MANAGER IS STARTING TO TALK ABOUT "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR" SINCE THE RECALL. MY CONTENTION IS THAT THE ORIGINAL RECALL WAS NOT PERFORMED PROPERLY BY A DEALER WHEN THE RECALL WAS DONE. WE CAN NOT KNOW WHAT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR IF THE NUT HAS BEEN COMING LOOSE FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. THERE MAY BE A REQUIRED WASHER MISSING BUT THAT HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED YET. IF THERE IS A WASHER MISSING, THAT MEANS THAT THEY REMOVED THE PINION NUT COMPLETELY BEFORE REPLACING IT WHICH YOU CANNOT DO WITHOUT REMOVING THE DIFFERENTIAL CARTRIDGE TO PROPERLY SET THE PRE-LOAD FORCE ON THE BEARING. EACH ONE OF THESE NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED INDIVIDUALLY.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE REAR AXLE PINION WAS DAMAGED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 260,000.

WHEN I TRIED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN IT WOULD LOCK UP WITHIN A FOOT OF TRAVEL. HAD TO TOW IT TO A GARAGE. THE REAR AXLE IS LOCKED UP THE REAR FLANGE IS SITTING AT A CROOKED ANGLE.

THE HEATER AND AIR CONDITIONER WERE NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND WERE REPAIRED BY THE CONTACT, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. UNFORTUNATELY ON MARCH 28TH WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO DEL RIO, TX FROM MY HOME IN SAN ANGELO, TX THE DEFECT OCCURRED AND THE DRIVE TRAIN DETACHED FROM MY REAR AXLE. MY TRUCK WAS STRANDED IN SONORA, TX. SHE HAS REFUSED TO RESPOND TO MY PHONE CALLS AND EMAILS UNTIL MAY 9TH WHEN SHE EMAILED ME THAT I WOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR TOWING. SHE REFUSES TO RESPOND TO MY REQUESTS FOR THE PROCESS TO SUBMIT MY TOWING EXPENSES OR PROVIDE ANY INFORMATION ON WHEN THE BUYBACK WILL OCCUR. I DON?T KNOW HOW TO MAKE A COMPANY COMPLY WITH A RECALL. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, BUT ENOUGH TO WORRY ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO STEER AWAY FROM TRAFFIC. TO DRAMATIZE THE ISSUE THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON MY SAME TRUCK A YEAR PREVIOUS UNDER NEAR IDENTICAL CIRCUMSTANCES. THE FIRST TIME I THINK PART DEFECT, THE SECOND TIME I THINK DESIGN DEFECT. IRONICALLY I HAD JUST EXITED THE FREEWAY ONTO SECONDARY ROAD AND WAS MAKING SLOW SPEED TURNS WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THE WHHEL BEARING DID NOT FAIL. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL AND NEITHER WAS THE PRIOR OWNER. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO A DODGE DEALER FOR SERVICE IN 9/2013 AND WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF A RECALL. IT WAS ALSO TRANSFERRED AT CA DMV OVER 1 YEAR AFTER THE RECALL WITHOUT ANY RECALL NOTIFICATION COMING UP. HOWEVER, EVEN THOUGH THEY CONCLUDED THE GEAR SHIFT INTERLOCK DID INDEED FAIL, THEY REFUSED RESPONSIBILITY STATING THAT "MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OWNER." I DID NOT KNOW THAT THE SHIFT INTERLOCK WAS FAILED. IN FACT, THE ENGINEER THAT DID THE INVESTIGATION STATED THAT IT EXHIBITED INTERMITTENT FAILURE. SO THERE WAS NO WAY FOR ME TO KNOW IT WAS FAILED UNTIL I EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. AFTER MY TRUCK ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, I REALIZED SOMETHING HAD FAILED. ONE DAY I TRIED TO DRIVE MY TRUCK TO THE STORE WITHOUT ANY HISTORY OF TRANSMISSION ISSUES. WHEN I PLACED THE TRUCK INTO DRIVE THE TRUCK IMMEDIATELY SHIFTED IN 4TH GEAR. I PUT IT BACK IN PARK THEN INTO DRIVE AGAIN. THIS SEEMED TO FIX THE ISSUE. A FEW DAYS LATER WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE TRUCK FELT SLUGGISH, ALMOST LIKE I WAS PULLING A HEAVY LOAD ON A TRAILER. I NOTICED THAT THE TRUCK WAS IN 4TH GEAR AGAIN. I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE I HAD ACCIDENTALLY PUT THE TRUCK INTO MANUAL, BUT I KNEW THAT I HAD NOT. SO I TRIED TO SHIFT BACK INTO DRIVE, BUT THIS DIDN'T FIX IT. I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE TRUCK OFF, BACK ON AND MIRACULOUSLY NO MORE ISSUES. UNTIL I DROVE IT AGAIN THE NEXT DAY. IT WOULD SPORADICALLY SHIFT INTO 4TH GEAR, AND STAY THERE WITHOUT ANY TYPE OF RESET LIKE BEFORE. OTHER DAYS, I COULD DRIVE JUST FINE. I EVENTUALLY HAD AN INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST LOOK AT THE TRUCK. HE STATED THAT THE LOW GEAR/REVERSE TRANSMISSION SHIFT SOLENOID WAS MALFUNCTIONING. I REPLACED IT AND DIDN'T HAVE ANY OTHER TRANSMISSION ISSUES. BESIDES THE REAR DOOR LOCKS BEING INOPERABLE LIKE BEFORE, THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES STARTED THE FOLLOWING WEEK (TIPM). NOW I'M STARTING TO THINK THAT THE TIPM MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE INITIAL ISSUE WITH THE DOOR LOCKS AND TRANSMISSION. I JUST PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE FROM CARMAX IN WOODBRIDGE. I WAS TOLD THAT THEIR VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTION WAS BY FAR THE BETTER. I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLES COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM BY THE HUNDREDS. TO BAD I DIDN'T SEE IT BEFORE BUYING. NICE TRUCK AND ALL, BUT IN THE MEANTIME OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS OR WORSE ARE STILL DRIVING THESE VEHICLES WITH THEIR FAMILIES ON BOARD, AND WHAT IT IS GOING TO TAKE FOR A FAMILY TO END UP DEAD ON THE ROAD BECAUSE DODGE INSTEAD OF TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR MANUFACTURING A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT, POSSIBLY WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROBLEM AND NOW THEY WILL CONTINUE CHARGING PEOPLE THAT PURCHASED THEIR DEFECTIVE VEHICLES UNTIL IT BECOMES EVENTUALLY A RECALL. AFTER AN EXHAUSTING SEARCH FOR A REPLACEMENT, THEY SAID DODGE HAD DISCONTINUED THE ASSEMBLY AND THEY HAD TO FIND A USED ONE. I HAVE A RECALL #12V-474 ON MY 2009 DODGE RAM THAT STATES, " THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITHOUT AN ADHESIVE PATCH ON THE PINION NUT THREADS. THE LACK OF THIS ADHESIVE PATCH COULD ALLOW THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT TO LOOSEN AND/OR THE REAR DRIVESHAFT TO SEPARATE FROM THE REAR AXLE. A LOOSE PINION NUT COULD CAUSE THE REAR AXLE TO SEIZE AND A SEPARATED DRIVESHAFT COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER. EITHER SITUATION COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING". THE CHRYSLER RECALL ASSISTANCE CENTER TOLD ME THAT I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR THE BUYBACK PROGRAM BECAUSE MY RECALL NUMBER DOES NOT MATCH ANY LISTED IN THE CONSENT ORDER ISSUED BY THE NHTSA. HOWEVER, THERE IS A RECALL # 13V-038 ON THE CONSENT ORDER THAT STATES, "CHRYSLER ANNOUNCED A RECALL OF 278,229 VEHICLES ON FEBRUARY 6, 2013, TO CORRECT A DEFECT THAT MAY CAUSE THE AXLE TO LOCK. AS A RESULT, THE DRIVER MAY LOSE STEERING POWER AND CRASH." MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THESE ARE TWO RECALLS ON THE SAME DEFICIENCY. ONE IS LISTED IN THE CONSENT ORDER AND THE OTHER (CONVENIENTLY FOR THEM) IS NOT. I BELIEVE THAT I SHOULD QUALIFY FOR THE BUYBACK PROGRAM. THE COMPANY IS SIMPLY TRYING TO DISMISS MY RECALL TO AVOID ADDING MY VEHICLE TO THE COUNTLESS THOUSANDS OF OTHER CLAIMS OF WHICH THEY ARE OBLIGATED TO BUY BACK.

WHEN SLOWLY ACCELERATING FROM A STOP I COULD HEAR A RATTLING/VIBRATION SOUND COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE. THERE IS CLEARLY AT LEAST ONE BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT ON PASSENGER SIDE. I AM SECOND OWNER (PURCHASED AT 19,000 MILES), SO LIFETIME WARRANTY IS NO LONGER VALID. I FEAR THIS LEAK COULD CAUSE POISONOUS CARBON MONOXIDE GAS TO FILL THE CABIN OF MY TRUCK WHILE DRIVING WITH MY WIFE AND CHILDREN. THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL IN OUR VEHICLE WENT OUT EVEN THOUGH WE HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN AND HAD THE RECALL PART PUT ON AT THE TIME OF THE ORIGINAL RECALL. THE SAME DAY WE PICKED THE VEHICLE UP, THE TRUCK STARTED WOBBLING BUT AT THAT TIME WE THOUGHT IT WAS THE ROAD WE WERE ON. WE SCHEDULED THE TRUCK FOR A RECHECK AND IN THE MEANTIME WE HAD TO MAKE A TRIP TO DALLAS, TX (APPX. 500 MILES) AND WE PULLED OUR 26 FOOT TRAVEL TRAILER BEHIND US. DURING THIS TRIP, THE VIBRATION IN OUR TRUCK BECAME VIOLENT AND MY HUSBAND COULD HARDLY HOLD IT ON THE ROAD. WE MADE IT HOME SAFELY AND CALLED THE DODGE SERVICE CENTER AND REPORTED THE PROBLEMS, ALONG WITH THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT BEING ON AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEING ON. THEY SET AN APPT. FOR 4 DAYS LATER. WE TOOK THE TRUCK IN AND WERE TOLD THAT WHEN THEY REPAIRED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL THE ORIGINAL RECALL PART WAS ON BACK ORDER SO THEY PUT THE TRUCK BACK TOGETHER WITHOUT IT AND GAVE IT BACK TO US. THEY NEVER TOLD US THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. FROM EVERYTHING I HAVE READ, THE DRIVE SHAFT COULD HAVE DROPPED OUT IN DALLAS TRAFFIC WITH US PULLING A 26 FOOT TRAILER AND WE COULD HAVE VERY WELL BEEN KILLED. THE SERVICE CENTER HAS NOW HAD OUR TRUCK AGAIN FOR OVER A WEEK. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND OUT WHETHER WE ARE INCLUDED IN THE BUY BACK BECAUSE OF THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL GOING OUT TWICE BUT I'M BEING GIVEN THE RUN AROUND. I OWN A 2009 DODGE RAM 1500 THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ON THE 605 NORTH INTERCHANGE WITH THE 91 EAST. I WAS HEADING NORTH ON THE 605 NORTH. MERGING ONTO THE 605, I HEAR A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. SO I BEGIN TO SLOW DOWN, I THEN TRIED TO ACCELERATE A BIT AND NOTICE I HAVE NO POWER. I AM OUTRAGED THAT YET ANOTHER CORPORATE ENTITY IS PREYING ON AMERICAN CONSUMERS AND GETTING BY WITH IT, WHILE CLAIMING TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND IT'S ENGINEERING. THERE WAS A RECALL (N08) ON 09 DODGE RAMS BECAUSE THE PINION NUT COMES OUT AND CAUSES THE DRIVE SHAFT TO FALL OFF. I WAS NOT INFORMED OF THIS RECALL. THE DRIVE SHAFT FELL OFF OF MY TRUCK, SNAPPED IN HALF, AND GOT LODGED IN MY REAR AXEL. THIS RESULTED IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE AND NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. HE SPOKE WITH A WOMAN NAMED HELEN (WOULD NOT GIVE HER LAST NAME NOR EXT NUMBER) AND SHE TOLD HIM TO HAVE HIS TRUCK TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH HE DID. TODAY HE IS GETTING THE GO AROUND AND IS BEING TOLD THAT HE HAD TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT FALLS ON THE MANUFACTURER. THE GENERAL MANGER TOLD HIM THAT THE WOMAN HELEN DID NOT FILE IT AS A RECALL THAT IT WAS A WARRANTY ISSUE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SHE DID THAT AND WHY THEY ARE ACTING LIKE THIS. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING FINE SO HE STARTED DRIVING AGAIN. THE TRUCK WAS STILL SHAKING AND THEN STARTED HUMMING AND MAKING GRINDING NOISES. THEN THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING BUT KEPT MOVING AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL ( BUT STILL IN DRIVE). HE PULLED OFF THE ROAD. HE CALLED THE CLOSEST CHRYSLER DEALER AND HAD IT TOWED THERE. THE TECHNICIAN SAID THE PINION SEAL HAD LEAKED AND THERE WAS NO FLUID IN REAR DIFFERENTIAL. THE TRUCK HAD A FULL SERVICE CHECK IN OCTOBER AND THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF LEAKAGE. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF LEAKAGE ON THE GARAGE FLOOR EITHER. AFTER RESEARCH, I'VE READ OF MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHEN THE DODGE DEALER LOOKED INTO THE INCIDENT THEY STATED A " PIN FELL OUT OF THE DRIVE SHAFT AND BACKED UP INTO THE REAR CAUSING THE PIN TO JAM THE TRANSFER CASE". THIS INCIDENT RESULTED IN A COMPLETE REBUILD OF THE ENTIRE POWER TRAIN SYSTEM. WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE A GUIDE RAIL MADE MANDATORY FOR DODGE VEHICLES AS THIS ROD FALLOUT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FLIPPED VEHICLE. THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS LAYING ON THE GROUND. OIL WAS POURING OUT OF REAR DIFFERENTIAL. (PICS AVAILABLE) ONCE AT THE DODGE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT THE PIN IN THE DRIVE SHAFT HAD FALLEN OFF AND A LARGE PORTION OF IT WAS NOT THERE ANYMORE (PROBABLY STILL ON THE HIGHWAY). ONCE THAT BROKE OFF APPARENTLY IT STUCK IN THE REAR AXLE WHICH LOCKED UP MY BACK TIRES. AT FIRST THEY ASKED ME IF I HAD A REAR DIFFERENTIAL CHECK UP LATELY. I EXPLAINED THAT THEY SERVICED MY CAR LAST AND WOULD BE THE ONES TO KNOW IF IT NEEDED IT. THEN I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND SO MANY OTHERS WITH SAME TRUCK AND SAME EXACT PROBLEM. IT WAS SCARY AND GLAD I DIDN'T HAVE MY FAMILY IN THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED. I WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN I STARTED HEARING A WHINING/GRINDING NOISE FROM UNDER THE TRUCK IT CONTINUED FOR ABOUT 2 MILES GROWING LOUDER AND LOUDER. I REALIZED SOMETHING WAS VERY WRONG WITH THE TRUCK SO I SLOWED DOWN AND PULLED INTO THE TURNING LANE, JUST AS I DID THE REAR END LOCKED UP AND I HEARD A LOUD BANG, I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK A FOUND THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT HAD FALLEN OFF ONTO THE GROUND. THIS REALLY CONCERNS ME BECAUSE HAD THIS HAD HAPPENED AT A FAST RATE OF SPEED THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. I DRIVE MY 3 YEAR DAUGHTER AROUND IN THIS VEHICLE AND NOW WORRY ABOUT HERS AND MY SAFETY. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE PINION GEAR FAILED THROUGHOUT THE RING GEAR CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO MY AXLE AND DRIVE SHAFT. THE REAR AXLE AND DRIVE SHAFT WILL NEED TO BE COMPLETELY REBUILT. ON MY 2009 DODGE RAM 1500 QUAD-CAB 4X4, AT 43,000 MILES, WHILE CHANGING THE OIL AND OIL FILTER, THE DRAIN PLUG NUT ON THE INSIDE OF THE OIL PAN BROKE LOOSE FROM THE WELDS. I WAS LUCKY, IN THAT THIS DID NOT OCCUR UNTIL I WAS PUTTING THE OIL DRAIN PLUG BACK IN. I WAS ABLE TO HOLD TENSION ON THE NUT AND TIGHTEN THE DRAIN PLUG COMPLETELY. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ORDERED THE PAN. IT TOOK A MONTH TO GET THE REPLACEMENT OIL PAN. I SCHEDULED IT WITH THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE REPLACEMENT. DUE TO THE FINE ENGINEERING, THE FRONT AXLE HAD TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE OIL PAN. THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 3 DAYS BEFORE THEY COULD COMPLETE THE REPLACEMENT. IT WAS COVERED BY THE LIFETIME DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY ON THE TRUCK. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL PINION GEAR BROKE WHICH LOCKED UP THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL AND THE TRUCK SKIDDED OUT OF CONTROL TO A DEAD STOP. AFTER THE TRUCK STOPPED DUE TO THE DIFFERENTIAL LOCKING UP, IT WOULD NOT MOVE AND HAD TO DRUG ONTO A FLATBED AND TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. IT TOOK 23 DAYS FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO OBTAIN THE NECESSARY PARTS AND MAKE THE REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THEY REPLACED THE COMPLETE REAR DIFFERENTIAL.
