The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon inspecting the vehicle, it was discovered that the fuel tank was not completely secured to the vehicle and was hanging down from the subframe. The failure was caused by a corroded subframe attaching the fuel tank straps to the vehicle. Both fuel tank straps had failed due to the subframe corrosion. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN and vehicles from the state of Kansas were not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V160000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 149,000.

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V160000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The contact stated that the sub frame was rusted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and to Hudson Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM (625 NJ-440, Jersey City, NJ 07304) on two separate occasions and the dealers declined to perform the recall repair because the sub frame was rusted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that he was responsible for the sub frame replacement. The failure mileage was 165,851. Case number [XXX] . FRAME APPEARS BAD IN SEVERAL SPOTS, SO MUCH RUST. RUST ON VIRTUALLY EVERY PANEL ON THE BODY. ABOVE WINDSHIELD MIDDLE OF OF DOOR. IT LITERALLY EVERYWHERE. THE LEATHER SEATS ARE JUNKED. I UNDERSTAND IT'S A 11 YEAR OLD VEHICLE BUT TRUCK IS FALLING APART EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK. YOU CAN LOOK INSIDE THE TRUCK HAS BEEN VERY WELL CARED FOR DRIVES HORRIBLY MAKES SO MANY SOUNDS FROM RATTLES TO CLUNKS.MOSTLY ON 2 LANE ROADS AFRAID TO DRIVE MUCH INTERSTATE AFTER HAVING TIRE BLOWING OUT SIDEWALK GOING DOWN INTERSTATE EATS TIRES ON THE INSIDE ON BOTH SIDES BEEN LINED UP STILL SAME RESULT. SEVERE CORROSION RESULTING IN COMPROMISED STRUCTURAL FRAME INTEGRITY NEAR WHERE THE REAR BUMPER AND TOWING PACKAGES ATTACHES TO THE FRAME. APPEARS TO BE THE RESULT OF A FRAME REINFORCEMENT ON THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME THAT WAS NOT PROPERLY COATED WITH A RUST INHIBITOR AT THE FACTORY. MOISTURE LIKELY PENETRATED THE SPACE BETWEEN THE TWO METAL PIECES AND CAUSED COMPLETE RUST-THROUGH, COMPROMISING THE INTEGRITY OF THE REAR OF THE FRAME. THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE SINCE BUMPERS AND TOWING PACKAGES MOUNT TO THE FRAME IN THIS EXACT SPOT. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, BUMPERS OR TRAILERS IN TOW COULD BREAK AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE AND BECOME DANGEROUS PROJECTILES ON THE ROAD. THIS ISSUE WAS OBSERVED DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE TO THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. IT HAS LIKELY BEEN ONGOING FOR MONTHS. THE UNDERNEATH SIDE OF THE VEHICLE IS REGULARLY WASHED IN THE WINTER AND SPRING TO REMOVE DE-ICER THAT WAS APPLIED TO THE ROAD DURING WINTER STORMS. BOTH SIDES OF THE FRAME HAVE SEVERE CORROSION IN THE SAME SPOT. THE LEFT-SIDE FRAME HAS WORSE CORROSION THAN THE RIGHT SIDE. THE SUPPORT METAL IS VISIBLE ON THE RIGHT SIDE FRAME AND CAN BE SEEN IN THE IMAGES ATTACHED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BERGLUND CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (2525 FRANKLIN RD SW, ROANOKE, VA 24014, 540-345-9881) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEEL FRAME WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD REACH BACK OUT, BUT THE CONTACT HAD NOT HEARD BACK YET. THE FRONT STRAP HOLDING THE GAS TANK TO THE FRAME BROKE CAUSING THE FUEL TANK TO DROP VERY CLOSE TO THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND I NOTICED SOMETHING HANGING UNDERNEATH THE CAR. HAD I DRIVEN IT, MY CONCERN IS THAT IT WOULD HAVE DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE EITHER BECAUSE THE REMAINING STRAP WOULD DETACH OR BECAUSE THE FUEL TANK WOULD NOT CLEAR A BUMP IN THE ROAD SURFACE. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK I HEARD A STRANGE SOUND UNDERNEATH MY TRUCK. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD TO HAVE A LOOK AND NOTICED THE STRAP THAT HOLDS THE GAS TANK DETACHED ON ONE SIDE AND THE FRONT OF THE FUEL TANK WAS HANGING DOWN. APPARENTLY THE STRAP SUPPORT IN THE FRAME ROTTED OUT. THE REAR STRAP ATTACHMENT ALSO SEEMS TO BE CORRODING. WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE I HEARD OCCASIONAL SCRAPING NOISE AND HAD OTHER VEHICLES FLASH LIGHTS AT ME. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD IN THE 1ST SAFE AREA AND FOUND FRONT OF FUEL TANK HANGING DOWN APPROXIMATELY 8 INCHES AND THE FRONT RETAINING STRAP DISCONNECTED. I THOUGHT THE STRAP HAD DISCONNECTED BUT UPON FURTHER INSPECTION BY MY MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE FRAME WAS ROTTED THROUGH WHERE THE STRAP ATTACHES. MECHANIC STATES THAT I WAS LUCKY NOT TO LOSE THE TANK, POOR DESIGN AND THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO A 6.5 YEAR OLD TRUCK. I CONTACTED DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. SUGGESTED I CONTACT CHRYSLER. CHRYSLER SAYS THEY CANNOT HELP EVEN THOUGH OBVIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. MY RAM 1500 IS MY EVERY DAY VEHICLE. I DO NOT USE IT FOR WORK OR PLOW WITH IT. I CHECKED THE REST OF THE FRAME WHILE I WAS UNDER THERE. I HAVE DONE COSMETIC RUST PREVENTION IN THE PAST. SINCE I'M A DIYER & PROACTIVE, I GRABBED A PAINT TOOL TO SCRAPE THE RUST TO GET TO BARE METAL SO I COULD TREAT/PRIME IT. LOL NOT ONLY DID THE TOP LAYER OF METAL COME OFF, THE ENTIRE CROSS MEMBER DISINTEGRATED INTO BRITTLE METAL CHUNKS WHICH I SAVED/DOCUMENTED. THERE'S A 4" SQUARE SECTION THAT'S GONE. SINCE THIS IS A 400 HP VEHICLE, I'M SURE THE FRAME WILL TEAR ITSELF APART EVENTUALLY EVEN THOUGH I BABY THE TRUCK. E.G. NO DENTS I SURMISE THAT WATER HAS BEEN TRAPPED UP THERE SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE RESULTING IN FRAME FAILURE. THE METAL HAS NO STRENGTH. WOKE UP TO A RAIN FILLED DAY. I WENT OUT TO MY TRUCK AND ENTERED THE VEHICLE. I LOOKED IN THE REAR BEFORE BACKING UP. I NOTICED THAT MY HEAD LINER WAS SOAKING WET ON BOTH CORNERS OF THE C POST. I PUT MY TRUCK INTO PARK AND CHECKED THE REAR OF MY CAB. NOT ONLY WAS MY ROOF LINER WET BUT, THE REAR SEAT AND FLOOR WAS FULLY WET. THE WATER KEPT COMING IN THROUGHOUT THE DAY EVEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING. THE NEXT DAY I GOT IT CHECKED. I FOUND OUT THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT SEAL WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED TO ME 5 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 YEARS. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS TRUCK FOR 2YRS 3 MONTHS. I AM UNAWARE IF MY SEATS OR CARPET HAVE MOLD OR MILDEW DO TO THIS WATER DAMAGE. PLEASE HELP AS I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE A RUST OR MOLD IN MY TRUCK. *TR

WHILE DRIVING IN A MODERATE RAIN, WATER BEGAN LEAKING INTO THE BACK SEAT ON MY DAUGHTER. I DO NOT HAVE A SUNROOF. IT APPEARS TO BE LEAKING INTO THE CAB OF THE TRUCK VIA THE TWO ROOF SEAMS WHERE THEY MEET THE REAR WINDSHIELD. I HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE THAT INDICATE IT COULD BE FAULTY SEALS ON THE ROOF SEAMS, THIRD BRAKE LIGHT SEAL (CREATING A HAZARD OF SHORTING OUT THE LIGHT), OR THE SEAL OF THE REAR WINDSHIELD. *TR

THE FRONT BUMPER ON MY 2009 DODGE RAM TRX/4/OFFROAD IS RUSTING IT IS A PAINTED BUMPER NOT CHROME I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO TOOK PICTURES AND SENT THEM TO DODGE THEY INTURN SAID IT IS NOT COVERED. AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE REAR PINION NUT I DECIDED TO RESEARCH RECALLS ON MY DODGE RAM AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE CHROME BUMPERS FOR THIS YEAR AND FEEL THAT MY BUMPER SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE AS IT WAS SOLD TO ME WITH THE TRX/4/OFFROAD PACKAGE IT SHOULD HAVE MORE PROTECTION THEN THE CHROME BUMPER EVEN THOU IT WAS PAINTED IT SHOULD OF BEEN CHIPGUARDED OR A VINAL COVERED. *TR

FACTORY RECOMMENDED RUNNING BOARDS WERE INSTALLED BY DEALER WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND BOUGHT 100,000 MILE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. THEY WERE LOOSE IN FIVE MONTHS. DEALER TIGHTENED THEM. THEY WERE LOOSE AGAIN SIX MONTHS LATER DEALER TIGHTENED THEM AGAIN. THEY WERE LOOSE WITHIN A FEW WEEKS I CHECKED THEM RECENTLY AND FOUND THEY WERE STRIPPED. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE NOT REPAIRABLE AND SUGGESTED I GET AFTERMARKET BOARDS TO REPLACE THEM AT MY COST OF COURSE. THE ASSIST SERVICE MANAGER COMMENTS "[XXX] I WOULD GET AFTERMARKET BOARDS THE SAME THING IS PROBABLY GOING TO HAPPEN TO THE OTHER SIDE." OBVIOUSLY THERE HAS BEEN OTHER ISSUES WITH THESE BOARDS. THEY ARE STRIPPED AND THE DEALER IS THE ONLY ONE THAT EVER TIGHTENED THEM HE OBVIOUSLY HAD A CYA STORY FOR DODGE ABOUT HOW I MUST HAVE STRIPPED THEM ETC. THESE BOARDS ARE OBVIOUSLY A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN THEY FALL OFF AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT I'M OBVIOUSLY GOING TO BE IN TROUBLE WITH LEGAL FEES ETC. 100,000 MILE BUMPER TO BUMPER SHOULD COVER ESP WITH SAFETY ISSUES. ESP/BAS WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE WAITING IN THE GAS LINES. THE TRUCK FISH TAILS / SKIDS MORE FREQUENTLY ON SLICK / RAIN ROADS. THE LIGHTS DID NOT GO OUT AFTER CHECKING FLUID LEVELS, ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS, ETC. IT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE FOR RAM 1500SLT TRUCKS AFTER DOING AN INTERNET SEARCH ON THE CONDITION. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED THE DEALER YET IN HOPES OF THE CONDITION CORRECTING ITSELF, BUT WILL SHORTLY. ALSO, IT APPEARS TO BE THE BEGINNING OF RUST IN THE REAR BODY / TOW FRAME OF THE TRUCK AFTER LESS THAN FOUR YEARS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT FOAM BLOCKS WOULD HAVE TO BE INSERTED IN THE PASSENGER DOOR TO REDUCE THE WIND NOISE. IN 2011 DISCOVERED REPLACEMENT VEHICLE HAS EXACTLY SAME ISSUE AS 2007 VEHICLE HAD. CONCERNED FOR SAFETY AND SAFETY FOR FAMILY WITH POSSIBILITY OF MOLD DUE TO LEAKAGE, OVER LONG PERIOD OF TIME . I OWN A 2009 DODGE RAM 1500 CREW CAB 4X4 .THE TRUCK CAME EQUIPED WITH ORIGIONAL DODGE RUNNING BOARDS.WITHIN 4 WEEKS OF OWNING THE TRUCK THE RUNNING BOARDS BEGAN TO WOBBLE AND MAKE EXCESSIVE NOISE WHEN DRIVING.THE DEALERS ONLY RESOLUTION WAS TO CONTINUE TO TIGHTEN THEM.NOW 1 1/2 YEARS LATER THE RUNNING BOARDS FELL OFF.ALL THE METAL AROUND WHERE THE BOLT HOLES USED TO BE FRACTURED TO THE POINT OF FAILURE.THE HOLES LEFT ARE NOW THE SIZE OF QUATERS.WHEN THE FACTORY REP CAME DOWN TO SEE THIS HIS ONLY ANSWER WAS THEY WOULD REFUND THE COST OF THE RUNNING BOARDS .NO OFFER TO REPAIR OR EVEN TO EXTEND THE RUSTPROOFING WARRANTY.MY DAUGHTER WAS ALMOST SERIOUSLY HURT BY THIS .I KNOW THIS IS NOT THE ONLY TRUCK THIS HAPPENED TO .THE DEALER REFUSED TO REFUND THE MONEY UNLESS I SIGHNED A HOLD HARMLESS .I REFUSED!IS THIS WHAT WE PAY 40 GRAND FOR ? WE OWN A 2009 1500 DODGE TRUCK AND WERE STRANDED IN THE HIGH DESERT FOR WELL OVER TEN HOURS UP OFF OF HIGHWAY 377 IN NORTHERN ARIZONA WE HAD A FLAT WE PROCEEDED TO TAKE THE JACK THAT WAS BRAND NEW WE WERE JACKING THE TRUCK UP WHEN THE FIRST EXTENSION END TORE LIKE IT WAS SOFT METAL SO WE DISCARDED THE FIRST EXTENSION AND PROCEEDED TO USE THE SECOND WHICH ALSO TORE SO I USED THE LAST EXTENSION AND THEN THE HOOK THAT WAS CONNECTED TO THE JACK BECAME TWISTED AND COULD NO LONGER BE USED THIS STRANDED US IN A PLACE THAT WHERE WE COULD NOT BE LOCATED WE CALLED ROADSIDE EMERGENCY SERVICE AND WAS TOLD BY DISPATCHER THAT HE HAD PIN POINTED US AND THAT THEY WOULD SEND OUT A TOW TRUCK BUT THEY STILL COULDN'T FIND US WITH THE COORDINATES THAT WE GAVE HIM . SO WE TURNED TO TRIPLE A WHO WE BELONG TO WE ALSO CALLED 911 . WE WERE TOLD BY TRIPLE A TOW TRUCK DRIVER THAT WE SHOULD DRIVE ON FLAT TIRE TO HIGHWAY 377 IF WE WANTED HELP SO WE PROCEEDED TO DO SO AND WAS THIS TOW DRIVER WRONG IT CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK AND IT TOTALLY STOPPED RUNNING AND IS NOW AT POWER DODGE IN PHOENIX AZ . WE WERE FINALLY FOUND BY THE HOLBROOK SHERIFF DEPARTMENT SERGEANT PRICE AND THE NAVAJO DISPATCHER FOUND US BY THE COORDINATES THAT WE PROVIDED FROM OUR GPS WHICH WAS SOME TIME THE NEXT MORNING WE ARE BOTH DISABLED AND DID NOT HAVE OUR MEDS UNTIL TWO DAYS LATER WHEN WE GOT HOME ALL BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECTED JACK THAT WAS PROVIDED WITH TRUCK . THE PREVIOUS PERSON MENTIONS TINTING THE WINDOWS.....DON'T WORRY FRIEND I HAVE "LIMO TINT" A THE SUN STILL REFLECTS AND WILL EITHER AFFECT ME OR MY PASSENGER. I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS JUST ME BUT AFTER OBSERVING MY PASSENGER BEING BLINDED AND READING THIS, IT ASSURES ME THAT THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD AND NOT ME JUST BEING SENSITIVE. *TR

THE CHROME TRIM RING AROUND THE SHIFTER ON THE CONSOLE MOUNTED SHIFTER REFLECTS THE SUN RIGHT BACK INTO YOUR EYES DURING CERTAIN TIMES OF THE DAY. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE THIS GLARE IN YOUR VISION. I MUST COVER THAT AREA WITH MY HAND TO BLOCK THE REFLECTION. I CANNOT HAVE BOTH OF MY HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I CANNOT LEGALLY TINT MY FRONT SIDE WINDOWS OR THE FRONT WINDSHIELD TO LESSEN THE LIGHT. THIS IS A DANGEROUS DESIGN FLAW. *TR
