TPMS WHEEL VALVE BONNET CRACKING. NOTICED ONE BONNET CRACKED, TOOK TO DEALER AND HAD REPLACED COMPLETE TPMS WHEEL VALVE ASSEMBLY, NOTED A FEW MONTHS LATER THAT TWO OTHER WHEEL VALVE ASSEMBLY BONNETS WERE SEVERELY CRACKED, ORDERED TPMS VALVE KITS WHICH CONTAINED NEW VALVE STEM BONNETS AND REPLACED CRACKED BONNET UNITS. THE VEHICLE HAS ALMOST 100K MILES.

I WAS DRIVING 55 MPH ON A 70 MPH HIGHWAY AND MY DRIVER SIDE FRONT TIRE HAD A BLOWOUT I WAS TOWING A FULL TRAILER AND HAD A HARD TIME KEEPING THE TRUCK UNDER CONTROL. I GOT THE TRUCK PULLED OVER AND CHANGED THE TIRE AND UPON INSPECTION THE VALVE STEM HAD CORRODED AND CAME APART, UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE REAR PASSENGER STEM IS ALSO CORRODED AND ONLY HALF IS REMAINING! I HATE THINKING WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED IF BOTH BLEW OUT OR I WAS DRIVING THE SPEED LIMIT WITH THE KIDS IN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!! MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 17,800 MILES ON IT. I AM LEARY TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER! I FEEL THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL. IT IS QUITE EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE ALL 4 VALVE STEMS AND I THINK ALL OWNERS WITH THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE COMPENSATED!

VALVE STEM NUT CRACKED AND CAME OFF RESULTING IN FLAT TIRE, THANKFULLY IN GARAGE, NOT ON THE ROAD. DISCOVERED NUTS ON TWO OTHER TIRES WERE ALSO CRACKED. (FOURTH VALVE STEM APPARENTLY HAD BEEN REPLACED PRIOR TO MY PURCHASING THE VEHICLE.)

I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK TO WORK ONE MORNING. I WAS TRAVELING AT A STEADY SPEED OF 70MPH IN A STRAIGHT STRETCH. ALL OF THE SUDDEN MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO WOBBLE AND I HAD THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ON MY DASH. AFTER NO MORE THAN 2 SECONDS THE TRUCK PULLED EXTREMELY HARD TO THE RIGHT. I KNEW THAT I HAD A FLAT TIRE. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO SAFELY PULL OFF AND AVOID THE TRACTOR TRAILER FROM SLAMMING INTO ME I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. AFTER INSPECTING THE TIRE, I NOTICED THAT I DIDN'T HAVE A VALVE STEM IN MY FRONT PASSENGER TIRE. I ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE THE TIRE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN THE RAIN BUT BROKE THE CHEAP LUG WRENCH THAT IS SUPPLIED WITH THE VEHICLE. APPARENTLY THE DEALERSHIP OVER TORQUED THE LUG NUTS. I HAD TO GET A RIDE TO WORK, BEING 1.5 HOURS LATE AND LEAVE MY TRUCK ON THE INTERSTATE ALL DAY. MY FATHER IN LAW WORKS FOR A TIRE AND LUBE CENTER. HE PROFESSIONALLY INSPECTED IT. THE THREADS COMPLETELY STRIPPED OUT OF THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR AND VALVE STEM. THIS IS WHAT CAUSED IT TO VIOLENTLY EJECT FROM THE WHEEL ITSELF. BY GODS' GOOD GRACES I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER THAT DAY AND NOT CRASH OR DIE DUE TO THE HIGH SPEEDS. I HAVE HAD MANY OTHER ISSUES WITH THE TRUCK AS WELL THAT I WILL FILE SEPARATE COMPLAINTS ON EACH ISSUE. (TRANSMISSION SHIFT SOLENOID, STAYING IN 4TH GEAR, TIPM ELECTRICAL ISSUES/NO POWER TO ANYTHING ON THE INSIDE OF THE TRUCK, REAR POWER DOOR LOCKS NOT UNLOCKING/LOCKING WITH KEY FOB OR FRONT DOOR LOCK CONTROLS) THIS TRUCK IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO MY FAMILIES LIFE AS WELL AS MY OWN. *TR

THANK FULLY NOTHING HAS HAPPENED AS OF YET. HOWEVER ALL FOUR TPMS VALVE STEM RETAINING NUTS THAT WERE USED ON MY MODEL ARE CRACKED AND GETTING WORSE OVER TIME. I SAW THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE HAD RAPID DECOMPRESSION OF THEIR TIRE PRESSURE DUE TO CRACKED RETAINING NUTS. THESE WERE REPORTS ON THE COMPLAINTS SECTION HERE. I WAS INFLATING ONE OF MY TIRES AND THE WHOLE VAVLE STEM CRACKED OFF AND I HAD TO REPLACE ONE OF THEM ALREADY. I BROUGHT IT UP WITH MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID "THAT'S JUST WHAT ALUMINUM VALVE STEMS DO" IM AFRAID THAT EVENTUALLY THEY WILL FAIL AT HIGH SPEED AND JUST WANT TO PUT A COMPLAINT IN. A PART LIKE THIS SHOULD NOT JUST BE EXPECTED TO "DO" SOMETHING LIKE THAT WHEN IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE.

TWO TIRE VALVE STEMS HAVE FAILED CAUSING SUDDEN LOSS OF TIRE INFLATION. FIRST FAILURE, JUNE 5, 2016 DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE OCCURRED ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY (70MPH). TIRE WAS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR BEFORE VEHICLE STOPPED. SECOND FAILURE, SEPT 26, 2016 PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE OCCURRED ON STATE HIGHWAY (55MPH). TIRE HAS NOT BEEN REVIEWED FOR INTERNAL DAMAGE. FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE SHOWS CRACK IN VALVE STEM RETAINING NUT. CRACK RUNS STRAIGHT FROM TIRE TO TOP OF RETAINING NUT. CRACK APPEARANCE LOOKS AS THOUGH THE RETAINING NUT IS A STAMPED PART WITH A SEAM. PHOTOS: 1) SEPT 26 FAILURE SHOWING VALVE STEM PARTS COMPLETELY MISSING. 2) UNFAILED, BUT CRACKED RETAINING NUT (DARK LINE IS CRACK) TAKING TRUCK TO TIRE SHOP FOR REPLACEMENT OF ALL VALVE STEMS. WILL ASK FOR ALL EXISTING PARTS TO BE RETURNED. NOTE FIRST FAILURE REQUIRED CHANGING TIRE WITHIN 4 FEET OF HEAVY VEHICLE TRAFFIC MOVING AT 70 MPH SPEED LIMIT. SECOND FAILURE REQUIRED CHANGING TIRE ON DARK ROADWAY DURING RAIN STORM. UNLIKE TYPICAL TIRE PUNCTURES WITH SLOW PRESSURE LOSS, I HAD NO ABILITY TO RE-INFLATE AND MOVE TO SAFER LOCATION FOR TIRE CHANGING.

AND AS OF TODAY 09/03/2016 I HAVE NOTICED THE TIRES (ALL 4) ARE STARTING TO LOOSE AIR AND 3 OUT OF 4 VALVE STEMS ARE CRACKED CAUSING THE AIR TO RUSH OUT OF THE TIRE AS THE CRACK GETS WORSE ,THIS IS VERY MUCH A SAFETY HAZARD. AT THIS POINT I HAVE NO WAY TO SCAN IN THE PAPERWORK FROM THE REPAIR SHOP, BUT I DO HAVE IT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE RAM 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE REAR WHEELS SEIZED AND PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM FUNCTIONING. IN ADDITION, THE WHEELS UNLOCKED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PINION BEARING WAS LOOSE AND THE REAR AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V038000 (POWER TRAIN) BEFORE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.

WHILE DRIVING THE RETAINER THAT HOLDS THE VALVE STEM IN PLACE CRACKED AND CAUSED THE TPMS SENSOR TO FALL INTO THE TIRE CAUSING THE TIRE TO GO FLAT. AFTER CHECKING I FOUND ALL THE OTHER RETAINERS WERE CRACKED AND CORRODED. AFTER CHECKING INTO THE MATTER, I FOUND THAT OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES AROUND THAT YEAR ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I ALSO FOUND THAT CHRYSLER STOP USING THOSE PARTICULAR TPMS SENSORS AFTER ONLY A SHORT TIME. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL AND THAT I NEEDED TO CONTACT CORPORATE. I WAS DRIVING AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED WHEN THIS HAPPENED, IF I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY I MAY HAVE CRASHED. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION.

ON 04-02-2015 I EXPERIENCED A RAPID LOSS IN PRESSURE AND A FLAT REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH IN RAINY CONDITIONS. I FOUND THAT THE VALVE STEM WAS MISSING WHEN I WENT TO CHANGE THE TIRE. I BROUGHT THE TIRE TO A CHAIN TIRE STORE AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE VALVE STEM NUT HAD BROKEN CAUSING THE FAILURE. I WAS FORCED TO REPLACE BOTH REAR TIRES BECAUSE THE SHORT DISTANCE DRIVEN TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC DESTROYED THE FLAT TIRE. THE OTHER NUTS WERE EXAMINED AT THAT TIME AND CORROSION WAS NOTED BUT NO CRACKS WERE OBSERVED. IT IS NOW 10-29-2015 AND I'M NOTICING THAT ONE OF THE OTHER VALVE STEMS IS CRACKED ON THE OLDER TIRES. I NEED TO HAVE THE STEM REPLACED BEFORE IT FAILS CATASTROPHICALLY. I'M ALSO EXPERIENCING A TPMS FAILURE BUT DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS RELATED. THE TIRE REPAIR COST $400+ AND IN READING OTHER COMPLAINTS THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ALL TOO COMMON PROBLEM. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER FURTHER AND DETERMINE IF A RECALL IS NECESSARY.

I INSPECTED THE REMAINING THREE TIRES AND ALL THREE OF THE OTHER VALVE STEMS HAD CRACKED. I HAD TO FIND A SERVICE GARAGE AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE, ESPECIALLY IF ALL FOUR TIRES WOULD HAVE BLOWN AT THE SAME TIME.

IN THE CITY THE TRUCK IS NICE AND QUITE HOWEVER ON THE HIGHWAY IT HOLLOWS OFF AND ON ALL THE WAY(HOURS) ABOVE 45 MPH. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIME AND THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE TEST DROVE IT AND THERE WHERE NO NOISE. I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT THINKING THAT MAYBE BECAUSE OF THE CHEAP TIRES THE MANUFACTURE INSTALLED. UNTIL 4 YEARS LATER I BOUGHT TOP OF THE LINE REPLACEMENT TIRES AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MAKE THE SAME NOISE WITH THE NEW TIRES, WHEN TO SEARS THEY REPLACED THE TIRES AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THERE IS A MALFUNCTION WITH SOMETHING IN THE AXLE OR TIRE ROD I ASSUME. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE NOISE IN COMING FROM THE PASSENGER FRONT TIRE AREA. THERE IS NO SHAKING OR ALIMENT THAT IS NOTICEABLE HOWEVER, I DO GET REGULAR ALIMENTS AND THERE IS ALWAYS ADJUSTMENTS NEEDED.

I ACCELERATED MY VEHICLE TO GET CLEAR OF VEHICLE TO MY RIGHT IN ORDER THAT I COULD MOVE OVER INTO RIGHT HAND LANE, IMMEDIATELY AT ACCELERATION POINT I GOT A LOW AIR PRESSURE WARNING ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. I STOPPED AS QUICKLY AND AS SAFELY AS I COULD. INSPECTION OF VEHICLE FOUND LEFT REAR TIRE COMPLETELY DEFLATED AND UPON CLOSER INSPECTION NOTED THAT VALVE STEM ASSEMBLY WAS MISSING FROM TIRE RIM IT HAD UNSEATED FROM RIM AND BLOWN INSIDE THE TIRE CAUSING RAPID DEFLATION. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD THAT NEEDS CORRECTED NOW!

WHILE TRYING TO PUT THE AIR IN, THE STEM WAS GETTING PUSHED INTO THE TIRE. THE MECHANIC TOLD US THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FIRST TIRE (THE NUT ROTTED OFF). HAD WE BEEN TRAVELING AT A HIGHER SPEED, THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. WE FEEL THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE LOOKED IN TO. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SCREWS IN THE TIRE LOOSENED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I RECENTLY HAD THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT HUB FAIL ON MY TRUCK. HAVING HEARD A GRINDING NOISE, I TOOK THE TRUCK HOME AND LIFTED THE FRONT TO INSPECT IT. AFTER INSPECTING THE WHEELS AND BRAKES, I REMOVED BOTH AND FOUND THAT THE BEARINGS HAD FAILED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THESE HUBS ARE SEALED UNITS THAT HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I REPLACED BOTH SIDES TO BE SAFE. MY TRUCK HAS ANTI-LOCK BRAKES IN THE FRONT ALSO SO THESE UNITS COST ME ALMOST $500.00 WITH NEW PADS. CHRYSLER TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD NOT FOUNT ANY DESIGN PROBLEMS WITH THE HUBS BUT AS THIS IS A CRITICAL UNIT THAT DOES NOT GET SERVICED, IT SHOULD NOT FAIL SO SOON. HAD I DRIVEN MUCH FURTHER THE UNIT COULD HAVE BROKEN COMPLETELY CAUSING THE ENTIRE WHEEL TO FALL OFF. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS IF NOT FATAL ACCIDENT. *TR

ON MY 2009 DODGE RAM TRUCK THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE VALVE SENSORS ARE SECURED TO THE WHEEL WITH A RETAINING NUT. THE VALVE STEM ON THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR HAS THREADS THAT GO THREW THE WHEELS AND THEN SECURE WITH THAT RETAINING NUT. THE RETAINING NUT WAS MADE OUT OF ETHER ALUMINUM OR INFERIOR METAL. DURING LAST YEARS EXTREME COLD WEATHER MOISTURE GOT BETWEEN THE TREADS AND THE RETAINING NUT. THE RETAINING NUT ON THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR ON THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL OF MY 2009 DODGE RAM CRACKED FROM THE MOISTURE AND COLD WEATHER. WHEN THE NUT CRACKED THE LOW PRESSURE SENSOR FELL OFF INSIDE OF THE TIRE, WHICH CAUSE THE LEFT FRONT TIRE TO START TO GO FLAT. AFTER THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR FELL OFF IT WAS DRIVEN THREW THE TIRE BEFORE I COULD APPLY THE BRAKES. THAT ACCELERATED THE TIRE GOING FLAT AND LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE SPUN AROUND CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE REAR BUMPER AND REAR TAILGATE WHEN IT HIT A GUARDRAIL. . THE NUTS CAN NOT BE VISUALLY INSPECTED FOR DEFECTS. DODGE HAS SINCE REDESIGNED THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR TO ELIMINATE THE DEFECTED NUT DESIGN. THE NEW LOW TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR DOES NOT HAVE AN RETAINING NUT. THEY ARE HELD IN THE WHEEL THE SAME WAY A REGULAR VALVE STEM IS HELD IN. AFTER THE ACCIDENT I WENT TO THE NEAREST REPAIR SHOP AND FOUND OUT THE OTHER THREE LOW TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS NUTS WERE ALSO DEFECTED. I HAD REGULAR TIRE VALVE INSTALLED SO I COULD CONTINUE MY TRIP. GOOD MORNING, MY INCIDENT IS SPECIFICALLY RELATED TO THE TPMS (TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM). ON THE ABOVE STATED DATE, I HAD JUST LEFT WORK AT APPROXIMATELY 8:30AM. I WAS DRIVING SOUTHBOUND ON A STATE HIGHWAY AND HAD JUST ACCELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH WHEN MY TPMS LIGHT FLASHED AND A CATASTROPHIC MALFUNCTION OCCURRED WITH THE VALVE STEM ON THE FROM PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO AVOID COLLISION AS I ATTEMPTED TO CONTROL MY VEHICLE AND SAFELY COME TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER AFTER MY FRONT TIRE IMMEDIATELY AND INSTANTLY BECAME FLATTENED. UPON EXITING MY VEHICLE, I STARTED TO INVESTIGATE THE REASON FOR THE SUDDEN FLAT TIRE. TO MY SURPRISE, MY VALVE STEM WAS COMPLETELY GONE. I WAS ABLE TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL GARAGE WHERE THEY REMOVED MY TIRE FROM ITS RIM REVEALING PIECES OF THE SENSOR ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. THE METAL THAT THE VALVE STEM IS MADE OUT OF APPEARS TO BE SOME TYPE OF CHEAP SOFT METAL THAT HAS OBVIOUSLY BECOME CORRODED AND BRITTLE. IT APPEARED THAT THE METAL SUFFERED SOME TYPE OF OXIDATION, POSSIBLY FROM ROAD SALT HERE IN THE NORTHEAST. I IMMEDIATELY HAD THE GARAGE STAFF REMOVE MY OTHER TIRES AND FOUND THE SAME RESULTS ON THE OTHER 3 TIRES. WHEN THE VALVE WAS REMOVED, I PLACED ALL 3 IN BETWEEN 2 FINGERS AND GENTLY SQUEEZED CAUSING 2 OF THE 3 TO CRUMBLE INTO METAL FRAGMENTS. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE TO VEHICLE CONSUMERS AND ALSO A COSTLY REPAIR. I HAVE REPLACED ALL 4 OF MY VALVE STEMS WITH TRADITIONAL RUBBER STEMS UNTIL A SAFER ALTERNATIVE HAS BEEN DEVELOPED. *TR

THE SCHRADER TIRE STEM HAD LOST ITS OUTER LOCKING DEVISE AND THE MONITOR WAS INSIDE THE TIRE. AFTER REMOVING THE TIRE THE MONITOR STYLE STEM WAS LOCATED IN THE TIRE AND WHAT WE FOUND WAS VERY DISTURBING. THE THREADS WHICH HOLD THE STEM IN PLACE WERE TOTALLY FILLED IN WITH CORROSION......NO THREAD LEFT TO HOLD THE STEM IN PLACE. THIS MAY EXPLAIN WHY CARS ARE SUDDENLY LOSING CONTROL AND GOING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAD JUST HAD MY TIRES ROTATED ABOUT 400 MILES AGO OR THE FLAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED WITH A FRONT TIRE WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. I NOW NEED TO REMOVE THE OTHER THREE TIRES AND HAVE THEM INSPECTED AT A COST OF ANOTHER $101.00 EACH WHEEL OR REMOVE THE MONITORS AND TO BACK TO THE SAFE AND PROVEN RUBBER STEMS. ONCE AGAIN A VALVE STEM COVER NUT SPLIT AND BROKE OFF DUE TO CORROSION. WE DON'T HAVE ANOTHER SPARE AND WE WERE QUOTED A PRICE OF $75 TO $90 TO REPLACE EACH OF THE VALVE STEM PIECES. FRONT PASSENGER TIRE TO DEFLATED IN LESS 10 SECONDS WHILE TRALING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. TIRE WAS LESS THAN 1YEAR OLD AND HAD UNDER 1500 MILES ON IT. UPON INSPECTION THERE WERE NO PUNTURES/LEAKS, HOWEVER THE VALVE STEM WAS SEVERLY CRACKED AND FELL INTO THE TIRE UPON REMOVAL OF THE WHEEL. THIS IS THE SECOND INSTANCE OF THIS HAPPENING IN LESS THAN A YEAR ON THE TRUCK.

MY BROTHER AND I BOUGHT IDENTICAL DODGE RAM 1500 CREW CAB PICK UPS NEW IN 2009. THEY BOTH HAVE ALUMINUM 20 INCH WHEELS. ON 04-08-14 MY BROTHER WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN HIS LOW AIR WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND HIS DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE WENT IMMEDIATELY FLAT. HE WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD SAFELY. (NOTE: HE AND I BOTH ARE VERY EXPERIENCED DRIVERS AS FORMER LAW ENFORCEMENT). INSPECTING THE WHEEL AND TIRE INDICATED THAT THE ALUMINUM VALVE STEM HAD BROKEN APART AND DEPLETED THE AIR IMMEDIATELY. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED THAT 2 OTHER VALVE STEMS ON HIS VEHICLE WERE CRACKED. HE HAD ALL REPLACED WITH NEW RUBBER (AIR SENSOR) VALVE STEMS. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON WITH THE ALUMINUM VALVE STEMS. I HAD MY VEHICLE INSPECTED AND THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR IS CRACKED AND SCHEDULED TO BE REPLACED AT THE DEALERSHIP AT $80.00 PER VALVE STEM. EVEN AS AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER THE IMMEDIATE LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE IN A TIRE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ADVISED THAT THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING. BUT, AT THIS TIME THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL ISSUED. TIRES WERE NEW 15000 MILES PRIOR TO THIS OCCURRENCE . DEALER CHECKED THREE OTHER VALVE STEMS AND FOUND CRACKS IN RETAINING NUTS? STEMS ARE ALUMINUM. ALL STEMS REPLACED ALONG WITH 1 NEW TIRE. COST OF MOUNTING AND BALANCE AND BREAKING DOWN THREE OTHER TIRES AND REPLACEMENT OF NEW RUBBER STYLE VALVE STEMS. TOTAL$ 376.97. LABOR 42.50 PARTS 310.52 SHOPS SUPPLIES 2.13 SALES TAXES 21.82. A RELATIVE OF MINE OWNS SAME TRUCK AND TOOK TO DEALER AND FOUND HIS STEMS WERE CRACKED ON HIS TRUCK ALSO. THIS WAS AS OF TODAYS DATE 4-10-14. DODGE NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND NOTICE THE THOUSAND'S OF OTHERS WITH SAME EQUIPMENT. THESE TIRES ACTUALLY BLOW OUT, ACCIDENTS WILL MOST LIKELY HAPPEN. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE VALVE STEM NUT CRACKING BEFORE. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALER DUE TO A CONSTANT TIRE LEAK THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A BAD VALVE STEM. THE VALVE STEM COST $50 AND $80 TO INSTALL. THE SECOND TIME WAS ON A SCHEDULED TIRE ROTATION AND THE TECH NOTICED THE NUT HAD CORROSION AND WAS CRACKED. HE REPLACED IT WITH A NEW NUT. THE SERVICE MANAGER AND SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS ARE PLAGUED WITH COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS CONDITION WHICH AFFECTS A LARGE PORTION OF VEHICLES PRODUCED BY CHRYSLER. A LARGE OIL AND GAS COMPANY (EQT) HAS ORDERED ALL EMPLOYEES OPERATING AFFECTED VEHICLES TO HAVE THE AIR VALVES CHANGED REGARDLESS OF CONDITION. HE ADVISED I REPLACE OTHER VALVE STEMS IN THE NEAR FUTURE. ON MAY 1, I WAS WASHING MY VEHICLE AND NOTICED AIR BUBBLES FORMING WHERE THE VALVE STEM MEETS THE ALUMINUM RIM ON THE OTHER FRONT TIRE. I NOTICED THE THREADED COLLAR WAS MISSING FROM THAT VALVE STEM. THAT SAME DAY, I HAD THAT VALVE STEM REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT PART IS THE SAME DESIGN AND MATERIAL AS THE ORIGINAL. MY MECHANIC SAID THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN WITH THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. I DID APPROACH THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK AND THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL REGARDING THAT PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEED ,RAPID TIRE DEFLATION CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL AND VEERING OFF ROAD,,,INSPECTION REVEALED RIGHT FRONT VALVE STEM HAS A DISSIMILAR METAL CORRODED ISSUE ,CORRODED AND FELL APART ALLOWING VALVE STEM TO FALL INTO WHEEL CAUSING RAPID DEFLATION,,, INSTALLED SPARE TRAVELED DOWN ROAD ABOUT 60 MILES NOW THE TPMS LAMP IS ON AS THAT RT TIRE IS FLAT LAYING IN BED OF TRUCK,AN HOUR LATER TRUCK LOST CONTROL AGAIN AND I WENT OFF ROAD,,,I WENT TO LOOK AT THE SPARE ON RT FRONT AND IT WAS FINE,,,,THE OPPOSITE SIDE LEFT REAR TIRE THIS TIME WENT FLAT AND AS THE TPMS WARN LAMP ALREADY ILLUMINATED NO WARNING AVAIL ,,SAME THING THE VALVE STEM FELL INSIDE THE RIM,,THERE WAS A PIECE OF THE RETAINER CAP FOR THE TPMS VALVE STEM LEFT AND IT EASILY CRUMBLED INTO AN ANEALED ALUMINUM STATE ,,,,TWO TIRES SAME THING,,,,,,I WENT AND LOOKED AT THE LEFT FRONT VALVE STEM AND IT ALSO IS EXPLODED AND CORRODED TWICE IT'S NORMAL SIZE,,,,,I LOOKED AT THE REMAINING RT REAR VALVE STEM AND IT HAS ONE CRACK IN IT SO IT IS OBVIOUS NEED REPLACEMENT. ALL 4 FAILING AT SAME TIME IS A PRODUCT ISSUE AND DUE TO LOSS OF CONTROL THIS NEEDS ADDRESSING AS SOMEONE WILL GET HURT,,,IT IS APPARENT THAT DODGE HAS CHANGED THE STYLE ON THE NEWER 2012 VERSIONS TO RUBBER BUT IT APPEARS THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS SAFETY CONCERN,,,,,I DID ATTEMPT SAME WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT TO NO AVAIL. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE VALVE MONITORS MALFUNCTIONED DUE TO THE CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE METAL IN THE TIRE RIM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS AND ROAD SALT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000.

WENT TO CHECK AIR PRESSURE IN TIRES. WHILE UNSCREWING THE PLASTIC VALVE STEM CAP ON ONE OF THE FRONT TIRES, THE METAL VALVE STEM SHEARED OFF IN MY HAND. THE POINT OF SHEARING WAS ABOUT MID WAY DOWN THE METAL VALVE STEM. THE SHEARING OCCURRED CIRCUMFERENTIALLY IN A SMOOTH EVEN PLANE. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF MECHANICAL/PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO THE VALVE STEM FROM HITTING A CURB, ETC. I DID NOT EXERT LATERAL PRESSURE ON THE STEM, I JUST TWISTED THE PLASTIC CAP WITH MY FINGERS. THE STEM WAS ON A TIRE SENSOR UNIT WITH LABEL "SCHRADER ELECTRONICS" WITH APPARENT PART NUMBER "8CBFFCB4". *TR

I AM REQUESTING THE NHTSA EXPLORE THE POWER TRAIN ISSUES AFFECTING THE 2009 DODGE RAM 1500. DRIVER WAS ON HIGHWAY DRIVING AT 60MPH WHEN TRUCK STARTING MAKING A WHINING AND GRINDING SOUND WHICH CONTINUED FOR ABOUT 1 MILE BEFORE TRUCK STARTED TO RUN FUNNY . DRIVER SLOWED DOWN AND MOVED TO THE RIGHT LANE WHEN THERE WAS A BIG BANG AND A CLOUD OF BLACK SMOKE CAME FROM BACK END OF TRUCK. AT THE SAME TIME THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE LOCKED UP AND TRUCK WENT SKIDDING OFF THE ROAD. WHEN DRIVER EXAMINED CAR FOUND THAT THE ENTIRE DRIVE SHAFT ROD AND TRANSFER CASE WERE LAYING UNDERNEATH OF VEHICLE ALONG WITH MULTIPLE OTHER PIECES OF HARDWARE. THE TRANSMISSION WAS ALSO LOCKED UP AND UNABLE TO RELEASE EVEN IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION. WHEN THE DODGE DEALER LOOKED INTO THE INCIDENT THEY STATED A " PIN FELL OUT OF THE DRIVE SHAFT AND BACKED UP INTO THE REAR CAUSING THE PIN TO JAM THE TRANSFER CASE". THIS INCIDENT RESULTED IN A COMPLETE REBUILD OF THE ENTIRE POWER TRAIN SYSTEM. WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE A GUIDE RAIL MADE MANDATORY FOR DODGE VEHICLES AS THIS ROD FALLOUT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FLIPPED VEHICLE. FURTHERMORE LESS THAN 4 WEEKS LATER WHILE DRIVING SAME VEHICLE AT 15 MPH THE TRUCK STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND HAD TO BE TOWED BECAUSE OF A SHREDDED BOLT IN THE REAR STABILIZER BAR THAT CONNECTS THE REAR TO THE AXLE. VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN TO DEALER WHO CLAIMS IT IS ALL DUE TO THE INITIAL ISSUE. *TR

CONSUMER STATED AS HE WAS DRIVING, THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON, AND WITHIN A FEW SECONDS HIS FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY FLAT. *LN THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER REMOVING THE TIRE, HE TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD IT WAS COMMON WITH HIS MAKE/MODEL. APPARENTLY, THE NUT ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE RIM, THAT SECURED THE VALVE STEM AND SENSOR TO THE WHEEL WAS PRONE TO CORROSION. WHEN IT WAS CORRODED ENOUGH, THE VALVE STEM LOOSENED INTO THE TIRE ALLOWING ALL OF THE AIR TO ESCAPE, ALLOWING THE TIRE TO GO FLAT.

I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED AT 7000 + MILES, WHEN I GOT THE TRUCK BACK, I NOTICED A SLIGHT VIBRATION. AS TIME WENT BY THE VIBRATION GOT WORSE. I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER, IN FT. PIERCE SIX WEEKS LATER BUT BECAUSE I DRIVE A 1,000 MILES PER WEEK, IT HAT 13,000 + MILES AND THEY SAID IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A PRIVATE SHOP AND THEY FOUND THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS WARPED SO THEY TURNED THE ROTORS AND BALANCE THE TIRES. IT WAS BETTER BUT STILL HAD A VIBRATION AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DODGE DEALER IN VERO BEACH AND THEY SPUN THE TIRES ON THE RIMS AND REBALANCED THE TIRES. IT GOT A LITTLE BETTER BUT IT STILL HAS A VIBRATION THAT IS HARD TO LIVE WITH. *TR
