DT*: THE CONTACT STATED FAULTY VACUUM HOSE FROM ENGINE'S INTERNAL VACUUM PUMP TO THE POWER BRAKE UNIT. UNDER LIGHT CONTINUAL PRESSURE ON BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP. UNDER SUDDEN OR HEAVY PRESSURE, THE PEDAL WOULD GO TO THE FLOOR, AND VEHICLE WOULD STOP WHEN IT DECIDED TO DO SO. IT WOULD NOT LOCK OR MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP. I TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO A WHEEL AND BRAKE SHOP VERY CLOSE TO WHERE THIS HAPPEN AND THEY CHECK THE SYSTEM AND TOLD ME WHAT HAD CAUSE THIS PROBLEM WAS THE VACUUM HOSE FROM THE VACUUM PUMP TO THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS COLLAPSING SO I HAD THEM REPLACE IT. I WENT TO YOUR WEB SITE AND FOUND A RECALL #NHTSA 97V068000 FOR THIS PROBLEM SO I CALLED DAIMLERCHRYSLER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE MY VEHICLE AND THEY WOULD NOT TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT SHOULD NOT COVER ALL THE VEHICLE'S WITH THIS PROBLEM. *JB

MY PICKUP TRUCK IS EQUIPPED WITH DIESEL ENGINE. THE ENGINE DRIVEN VACUUM PUMP ALLOWED ENGINE OIL INTO THE VACUUM HOSES DUE TO THE ABSENCE OF AN INTERNAL CHECK VALVE. THE OIL DID CAUSE THE HOSE TO DETERIORATE AND PARTIALLY COLLAPSE, REDUCING THE VACUUM SUPPLY TO THE BRAKE BOOSTER. CHRYSLER STATED THAT MY PU WAS NOT COVERED BY THIS PROBLEM ALTHOUGH I HAD REPEATED BRAKE FAILURES UNTIL THE VACCUM HOSE WAS REPLACED AND A CHECK VALVE INSTALLED. I'VE NOT EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE SINCE THE VACCUM HOSE WAS REPLACED AND THE CHECK VALVE INSTALLED.
