TL* THE CONTACT WAS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. WHILE A MOTHER WAS ATTEMPTING TO EXIT A 2002 DODGE RAM 2500 WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE TWO YEAR OLD PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE SHIFTED THE VEHICLE FROM THE PARK POSITION INTO REVERSE. THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS AND CAUSED THE MOTHER TO FALL. THE CHILD SUBSEQUENTLY FELL OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS RUN OVER BY FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL. THE CHILD WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO THE NEARBY HOSPITAL. THE CHILD WAS PRONOUNCED DECEASED UPON ARRIVAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE POLICE REPORT NUMBER WAS: 2017-6489. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE SHIFT INTERLOCK FUNCTION FAILED TO OPERATE AS INTENDED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE GOING ABOUT 75 MPH I NEEDED TO BRAKE BUT NOTICED THE TRUCK WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN AND THE RPM WERE NOT REDUCING, IN FACT THEY WERE INCREASING. DESPITE ME NOT HAVING MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL THE TRUCK WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN. I HAD TO USE EXTREME PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES AND PULL OFF THE ROAD TO GET THE TRUCK TO SLOW DOWN. ONCE SLOWED IF I RELEASED PRESSURE OFF THE BRAKES THE TRUCK WOULD START TO ACCELERATE. I PUT THE TRUCK INTO PARK AND THE RPM WENT UP TO 5000 AND STAYED. I TURN OFF THE TRUCK AND TURNED IT BACK ON TO FIND THE RPMS IMMEDIATELY GO UP TO 5000 RPMS. I TURNED OFF THE TRUCK GOT OUT AND NOTICED SMOKE AND HEAT COMING OUT FROM MY WHEELS, DUE TO THE EXTREME BRAKING REQUIRED TO STOP THE TRUCK. KNOWING SOMETHING OF CARS I DECIDED TO LOOK AT THE THROTTLE BODY TO SEE IF IT WAS JAMMED OPEN AND REMOVED AIR FILTER ASSEMBLE. WHEN I REMOVED THE AIR FILTER ASSEMBLY I FOUND THE AIR FILTER ASSEMBLE O-RING (THE SEAL THAT GOES BETWEEN THE THROTTLE BODY AND AIR FILTER ASSEMBLY) JAMMED BETWEEN THE THROTTLE BODY HOUSING AND VALVE, VALVE WAS ABOUT 45 DEGREES FROM THE CLOSED POSITION. PART OF THE SEAL WAS STILL BETWEEN THE AIR FILTER ASSEMBLY AND THROTTLE BODY HOUSING AND THE OTHER PART WAS JAMMED IN THE THROTTLE BODY. I REASSEMBLED THE AIR FILTER ASSEMBLY WITHOUT TO SEAL AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE. I HAD TO REPLACE THE ROTORS AND FRONT BRAKE PADS DUE TO THE EXTREME BRAKING OF THE INCIDENT. *TR

WHILE PARKED WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, THE CONTACT'S CHILD HAPHAZARDLY MOVED THE GEAR SHIFTER, WHICH WAS LOCATED ON THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARD AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V55500 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT) BUT THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE SHIFT INNER LOCK SYSTEM WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 DODGE RAM 2500 PICKUP TRUCK PURCHASED JUNE 2007. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT A GAS STATION, IT BEGAN TO ROLL AWAY. HE THEN JUMPED INTO THE VEHICLE, DEPRESSED THE BRAKES AND PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED AND BENT BACK TOWARD THE HOOD. HE HAD LEFT THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR OPEN WHILE PUMPING FUEL INTO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED IN REFERENCE TO RECALL# 06E024000(ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). SINCE HIS VIN NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL, HE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR A FREE REMEDY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 78,124.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 DODGE RAM 2500. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN HIS VEHICLE. THE CLUTCH WOULD FAIL WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. IN ADDITION, THE GEARS WOULD SLIP AS IF THE CLUTCH WERE DEPRESSED AND THE CONTACT SMELLED A BURNING ODOR WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MULTIPLE DEALERS MORE THAN TEN TIMES. ONE OF THE DEALERS INSTALLED A NEW CLUTCH, BUT IT FAILED 10,000 MILES LATER. AT APPROXIMATELY 34,000 MILES, THE DEALER REPAIRED THE CLUTCH AGAIN; HOWEVER, THE ISSUE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 37,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 500. THE MECHANIC ALSO STATED THE PRESSURE PLATE APPEARED MUCH OLDER THAN THE CLUTCH ITSELF BECAUSE OF THE LARGE STRANDS OF FIBER STUCK IN THE COVER THAT APPEARED TO BE FROM THE PREVIOUS CLUTCH THAT CAME APART. THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL INJECTION PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 1/09/09. *JB

WE FEEL THAT THE REAR -END PROBLEM THAT WE ARE EXPERIENCING IS A FACTORY DEFECT, AND WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE EXPENSES INCURRED FOR REPAIR OF THE TRUCK. IN OCTOBER 2007, WE REPORTED THAT WE WERE HAVING PROBLEMS TO TEMPE DODGE. WE SAID THAT WE HAD A LEAK OF SOME KIND AND THAT THE REAR END WAS HAVING A FOUL ODOR. THEY KEPT THE TRUCK IN THE SHOP AT THE DODGE DEALERSHIP TO MAKE REPAIRS. WE GOT THE TRUCK BACK AND LESS THAN 2 DAYS LATER, THE AXLE TWISTED OFF OF THE TRUCK WHILE WE WERE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY 8 GOING TO TEXAS! WE HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO TEMPE DODGE. THEY FIXED THE TRUCK AGAIN. NOW, HERE IT IS ONLY A FEW MONTHS LATER, MAY 30, 2008 AND WE ARE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS AGAIN AND THE TRUCK IS BACK IN THE TEMPE DODGE SHOP FOR ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE REAR-END. THIS TIME IT IS GROWLING LIKE WE HAVE A TIGER UNDER THE VEHICLE. WE SPOKE TO SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR TRUCKS AND THEY HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS. ONE LADY ACROSS THE STREET FROM US SAID THAT HER AXLE BROKE OFF TOO. SO, WE NEED YOUR ADVICE AND HELP! WHY HAVEN'T YOU RECALLED THE 2002 DODGE 2500 DIESEL IF IT IS HAVING SO MUCH TROUBLE WITH THE REAR-END, AND WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY THE BILL IF THE PROBLEMS ARE BECAUSE IT WASN'T MADE CORRECTLY? WE ARE NOW WAITING TO HEAR FROM TEMPE DODGE ABOUT OUR TRUCK, BUT WE ARE NOW RETIRED AND WILL NOT HAVE THE MONEY AGAIN TO PAY ANOTHER $ 4,100 MORE DOLLARS TO FIX THE SAME PROBLEM. REAR BRAKE PADS HAD NOTHING BUT RUST HOLDING THE PADS IN PLACE, HAD THE TURBO AND FUEL PUMP REPLACED, U-JOINTS AND YOKE ON 4WD SHAFT WORN OUT AND HANGER BEARING ON REAR DRIVE SHAFT WORN OUT AT ABOUT 70,000MI, TAIL GATE CABLE BROKE AFTER ONLY TWO YEARS, WHEN CLICKING FROM HIGH BEAM TO LOW BEAM OCCASIONALLY ALL LIGHTS GO OUT, CANNOT USE HEATED MIRRORS BECAUSE THEY WILL BLOW A FUSE AND I WON'T HAVE ANY HEAT, AND NOW ALL BALL JOINTS AND TIE ROD ENDS ARE WORN AND NEED REPLACED. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW WITH ONLY 75 MILES ON IT, WHEN I HAD THE FUEL PUMP AND TURBO REPLACED AT AROUND 78,000 MILES, MY MILEAGE INCREASED FROM ABOUT 350 MILES PER TANK TO ABOUT 550 MILES PER TANK OF FUEL. HIGHWAY DRIVING IS MUCH HIGHER MPG. FUEL GAGE NO LONGER WORKS, EMPTY AT HALF TANK OF FUEL NOW. WAS QUARTER TANK AND EMPTY. I'M SURE THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE NEXT, I'VE BEEN PUTTING SPECIAL FLUID ADDITIVE IN THAT, THIS SEEMS TO HELP WITH SMOOTHNESS OF SHIFTING AND POWER. ON 8/17/2007 I MADE A COUPLE OF SHORT TRIPS AND WHEN GOT HOME I WENT TO BACK INTO DRIVEWAY AND REVERSE GEAR DID NOT ENGAGE. IT WORKED FINE EARLIER THAT DAY, THEN NOTHING. PUT MY OBD-II SCANNER ON IT AND NO CODE, CHECKED LINKAGE AND IT IS IN PROPER WORKING ORDER. *JB

DT: 2002 DODGE RAM 2500 HD QUAD CAB 4 WHEEL DRIVE SLT. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP AT LEAST 15 TIMES FOR NOT HAVING ANY POWER. THIS HAPPENED MAINLY WHEN TOWING A TRAILER. PRIOR TO PURCHASING THE TRUCK THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL INJECTION PUMP AND FUEL PUMP. THEY HAVE BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES LAST YEAR. THE DEALER SAID THAT TRANSMISSION WAS NOT PROGRAMMED FOR THE SIZE TIRES THAT WERE ON THE VEHICLE. ALSO, TURBO- CHARGER WAS BAD, AND THEY REPLACED IT, BUT, IT DID NOT WORK. TOOK BACK VEHICLE O DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED ALL PARTS AGAIN. THE LAST TIME THAT CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE TO BE DONE. MY DODGE 2500 QUAD CAB TRUCK WITH CUMMINS ENGINE HAS SUFFERED IT SECOND TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN 14 MONTHS. IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, AND THE DEALERHIP WILL FIX, HOWEVER THIS LEVEL OF FAILURE IS EXTREEME FOR A NEW VEHICLE. THE CURRENT FAILURE FEELS LIKE THE AUTO TRANSMISSION LOCK UP WILL NOT DIS-ENGAGE WHEN COMMING TO A STOP. EXTREEME BRAKE PRESSURE IS REQUIRED TO KEEP TRUCK FROM BOLTING AT STOP LIGHTS. MY TRUCK IS STOCK. I BELIEVE THE TRANMISSION MUST HAVE A SERIOUS DEFECT. I AM WORRIED THAT THE WARRANTY WILL SOON EXPIRE, AND I WILL BE FACED WITH HUGE REPAIR BILLS ON THIS BASICALLY NEW TRUCK.
