The contact owns a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 09E001000 (Steering), 13V528000 (Steering) and 15V312000 (Air Bags) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

We have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel crew cab pickup that occasionally after hitting a bump or on rough roads the steering mechanism or suspension develops an uncontrollable harmonic vibration with one or the other front wheels bouncing. The only way to stop the vibration is to come to a complete stop. In heavy traffic it could be a serious safety issue. The condition is well known to Chrysler and is commonly called a "Death Wobble". The first incidence on our vehicle was around ten years ago, but newer pickups are reported to have the condition. By replacing just the shock absorbers then it seemed to have helped, but that fix may have been fortuitous. The Dodge service center at that time did know of or maybe did not admit to the issue. Recently we have had the return of a couple episodes of the Death Wobble. The internet has many aftermarket brackets available for the Death Wobble, so, I assume, the condition is well known. Chrysler now has replacement that I was told are stronger (and maybe of a better design), but any pickup of this model without the upgrade is potentially a very dangerous safety hazard. I assume there should have been a recall for this problem, but, from your website, there are no recalls listed for this vehicle. As a side note, the Jeep SUVs have also been reported to have a Death Wobble, but I have no information on whether the wobble with them is caused by the same defect with the steering or suspension systems.

I was driving on I55 this morning and all of a sudden my truck started vibrating really bad, the steering wheel was veering, I had to constantly fight to keep in my lane. And when I touched my brakes it veered. Riding really rough, and has power loss. I took it to the nearest shop and they said my driveshaft was very loose, and that it is affecting everything that I described. The center driveshaft support bearing is also failing.

I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP ON THE RECALL YOU GUYS SENT LAST YEAR ON THIS MATTER. I WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT HAVE THE NEW AIRBAGS TO INSTALL AND THAT I WOULD RECEIVE ANOTHER NOTICE STATING WHEN THEY HAD THEM. THEN, I COULD THEN CALL BACK TO SET UP A TIME TO HAVE THE FAULTY ONE REPLACED. I NEVER RECEIVED THAT NOTICE AND HAVE RECEIVED MY SECOND SAFETY RECALL NOTICE ON THE SAME ISSUE. I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO HAVE THIS FIXED SINCE MY FAMILY OFTEN USE THIS VEHICLE. BUT THE LOCAL DEALER ONLY SEEMS INTERESTED IN MAKING MONEY, NOT THE SAFETY OF WHAT THEY SALE.

THE ONLY WAY IT STOPPED WAS I HAD TO REDUCE MY SPEED TO COMPLETE STOP , THE PROBLEM WAS I WAS TOWING A 16' TRAILER WITH A 4000 LB LOAD ON IT, I WAS IN FRONT OF A SEMI TRUCK WITH A FULL LOAD, IT WAS A VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS SITUATION. . IT HAPPEN AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 65 MPH ON FREEWAY NEXT DAY WITHOUT THE TRAILER I HIT A MINOR BUMP IN THE ROADWAY AND THE TRUCK STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE I HIT A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD AND EXPERIENCED WHAT HAS BEEN CALLED THE "DEATH WOBBLE". MY STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY FOLLOWED BY THE ENTIRE FRONT END. I LATERALLY SHOOK MY BODY SIDE TO SIDE AIBHARD THAT I HIT MY HEAD ON THE SIDE WINDOW. I HIT THE BRAKES HARD AND ATTEMPTED TO EASE TO THE SHOULDER BUT HAD NO CONTROL UNTIL THE TRUCK SLOWED TO ABOUT 35 MPH. I WAS ONLY FORTUNATE THAT THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES IN DIRECT VICINITY. I CONTINUED MY TRIP 95 MILES AT 55 MPH IN THE RIGHT LANE WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAVE TRIED NEW SHOCKS AND TIRES WITH A FRONT END ALIGNMENT, BUT I STILL GET THE SHAKE.

THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT IT, STARTING ON THE DAY I BOUGHT IT (USED) IN 2008. MADE IT GO AWAY FOR SOME YEARS, DON'T KNOW HOW. COMBINATION OF TIRE PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT, ALIGNMENT, TOE ANGLE? LIMITED MYSELF TO DRIVING LESS THAN 55 MPH. PROBLEM HAPPENS WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP JUST RIGHT AND IT SENDS ONE WHEEL UP, AND THE OTHER DOWN. THAT WHEEL THEN GETS BOUNCED UP, AND SENDS THE OTHER DOWN. IT'S LIKE DRIBBLING TWO BASKETBALLS, AND THE WHOLE FRONT END SHAKES VIOLENTLY. SINCE THIS HAPPENS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IT HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY, AND THE TRUCK IS COMPLETELY UNCONTROLLABLE DURING THIS TIME. THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE IT STOP IS TO SLOW DOWN (REMEMBER, YOU'RE ON THE HIGHWAY) TO 40-30 MPH. LAST TIME I CAME BACK FROM QUEENS, IT HAPPENED SEVEN TIMES. IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY, 8/14/15. IT IS DANGEROUS, VIOLENT, AND A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR WHICH DODGE HAS NOT OFFERED A SOLUTION OR RECALL. IT IS COLLOQUIALLY KNOWN AS THE "DODGE DEATH WOBBLE."

I'VE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP LOCALLY, AND THEY HAVE REPLACED ALMOST EVERY FRONT END COMPONENT AND STILL THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR SEVEN MONTHS DURING THE LAST TWO YEARS, AND IT STILL HAS THE ISSUE. I CANNOT LET MY CHILDREN DRIVE IT, I CANNOT, IN GOOD CONSCIENCE, SELL IT. I'M AT A LOSS AS TO A PATH FORWARD.

THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE DODGE DEALERSHIP'S SHOP FOR SEVEN MONTHS IN THE LAST TWO YEARS AND THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE. MOST OF THE FRONT END PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED, AND THE ISSUE PERSISTS.

IT HAS BEEN REPLICATED MULTIPLE TIMES FROM SPEEDS OF 40 MPH AND UP. AFTER TAKING THIS VEHICLE, A 2003 DODGE RAM 2500 QUAD CAB, 5.7 ENGINE, STOCK WITH ALL CURRENT RECALLS UP TO DATE (EXCEPT THE AIR BAG RECALL WHICH NO ONE HAS PARTS FOR), TO MULTIPLE REPAIR SHOPS AND DODGE DEALERSHIPS, NO EXACT CAUSED HAS BEEN LOCATED INCLUDING FCA (DODGE) STATING THERE IS NO ISSUE. THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS HAVE BEEN SPENT ON THIS IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM AS IT CANNOT BE RESOLVED YET. LET ME START BY STATING THAT I'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 33 YEARS AND HAVE AN IMPECCABLE DRIVING RECORD. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT APPROX. 65 MPH. I WAS CHANGING LANES WHEN I HIT A FEW SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD. MY TRUCK IMMEDIATELY STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND UNCONTROLLABLY. I PULLED TO BREAKDOWN LANE WHILE SLOWING THE VEHICLE. THE TRUCK DIDN'T STOP SHAKING UNTIL APPROX. 30 MPH, THOUGH IT WAS STILL SHAKING, I HAD NEVER ENCOUNTERED SUCH A LOSS OF CONTROL BEFORE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I DECIDED TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON THE WEB. I WAS AMAZED AT WHAT I FOUND. THIS PHENOMENON IS DUBBED 'DEATH WOBBLE'. THOUGH IT SEEMS THIS IN NOT AN UNCOMMON EVENT, NO-ONE SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO PINPOINT THE PROBLEM THAT CAUSED THE VIOLENT SHAKING. THERE ARE LOTS OF DIFFERING OPINIONS. MY MECHANIC CHECKED OUT TRUCK AND I WAS TOLD THAT OTHER THAN VERY SLIGHT WEAR IN DRIVERS SIDE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS, EVERYTHING WAS TIGHT. I'VE SINCE REPLACED UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS EVEN THOUGH MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THEY WEREN'T BAD ENOUGH TO WARRANT REPLACEMENT. I'VE ALSO REPLACED SHIMMY SHOCK ON STABILIZER AND INSTALLED AFTERMARKET STABILIZER AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM EVEN MORE. WE ALSO REALIZED PREVIOUS OWNER HAD NUMEROUS NEW PARTS INSTALLED TOO. SEEMS AS THOUGH HE WAS CHASING THIS AS WELL. SINCE REPLACING THESE, THIS HAS HAPPENED 2 MORE TIMES. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND I WON'T EVEN GO OVER 55 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. IS DODGE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE? AND WHAT ABOUT RECALLS? I'VE LOOKED AND CANNOT FIND ANY RECALLS THAT PERTAIN TO THIS PROBLEM. CHRYSLER RECALL # N49/NHTSA 13V-529 I WOULD LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW ILL-PREPARED CHRYSLER IS IN HANDLING THIS RECALL. I WAS NOTIFIED THAT I COULD CONTACT A DEALER AFTER JAN. 06, 2014 TO GET MY VEHICLE IN FOR THIS RECALL. ON 01/06/2014 THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT CHRYSLER HAD NOT RELEASED PARTS YET AND TO CALL BACK ON 01/24/2014. ON THAT DATE I CONTACTED THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY ORDERED PARTS FOR MY VEHICLE AND THAT THE PARTS WOULD BE ON ON JAN. 31.ON THE 31ST. THE PARTS HAD STILL NOT ARRIVED. A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING OUR DODGE RAM 2500, WE EXPERIENCED OUR FIRST "DEATH WOBBLE" INCIDENT ON INTERSTATE 70 AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, AND OCCURRED 2 MORE TIMES THAT SAME TRIP. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED AND BROUGHT TO AN AUTOMOTIVE SHOP. THE AUTOMOTIVE SHOP SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK BUT SUGGESTED REPLACING THE STEERING STABILIZER. I HAD THE STABILIZER REPLACED AND IT SEEMED OKAY FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT THE "DEATH WOBBLE" OCCURRED ON A REGULAR BASIS, ANY SMALL BUMP OR TRANSITION IN THE ROADWAY WOULD CAUSE THE FRONT AXLE, TIRES AND STEERING TO SHAKE SO VIOLENTLY IT FELT LIKE A LARGE EARTHQUAKE IN THE TRUCK. THE DEATH WOBBLE WILL NOT STOP TILL THE TRUCK WAS SLOWED DOWN TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS SEEMED TO OCCUR MOSTLY AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 45-70 MPH. WE STOPPED TAKING THE TRUCK ON MAJOR ROADWAYS AS IT WOULD BE LIKELY TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE TRUCK WAS BROUGHT TO SEVERAL AUTOMOTIVE SHOPS INCLUDING DODGE AND CHRYSLER DEALERSHIPS. ALL OF THE AUTOMOTIVE SHOPS SAID THAT THIS IS FAIRLY COMMON AMONG THESE TRUCKS AS DODGE DEALERSHIPS TOLD ME THAT BASICALLY I WAS A LIAR AND DENIED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. AFTER DOING THOROUGH RESEARCH I DECIDED TO FOLLOW THE ADVICE OF THE AUTOMOTIVE SHOPS AND SEVERAL SPECIALTY 4X4 SHOPS. EVERY STEERING AND SUSPENSION COMPONENT WAS REPLACED INCLUDING EVERY BUSHING, BEARING AND GREASE FITTING SOME PARTS WERE THE UPGRADED MOPAR LINKAGES AND PITTMAN ARM AND THE REST OF THE PARTS WERE OE REPLACEMENTS FROM REPUTABLE HIGH END MANUFACTURERS. I ALSO HAD AN ALIGNMENT PERFORMED IMMEDIATELY I HAVE SAVED EVERY PART THAT I HAVE TAKEN OFF THE TRUCK SINCE I BEGAN THIS JOURNEY INCLUDING RECEIPTS FOR ALL THE WORK/PARTS THAT WAS PERFORMED/INSTALLED. WE HAVE PREVIOUSLY FILED A COMPLAINT FOR THE "DEATH WOBBLE" OR VIOLENT, UNCONTROLLABLE SHAKING THAT OCCURS AFTER GOING OVER UNEVEN ROADS. THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SHAKES AND THERE IS MINIMAL CONTROL OF STEERING WHEN THIS HAPPENS UNTIL THE VEHICLE HAS SLOWED DOWN TO ALMOST A STOP. THE SHAKING OF THE FRONT TIRES IS VISIBLE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. TODAY WHEN I WAS ENTERING THE EXPRESSWAY, WHICH HAS FRESH PATCHES OF CONCRETE, NO POTHOLE OR ROUGH SURFACE, MY TRUCK STARTING SHAKING THE FRONT TIRES AND STEERING WHEEL VIOLENTLY (DEATH WOBBLE). AT APPROX. 55-60 MPH, THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE VERY VIOLENTLY. APPLIED BRAKE, TO ATTEMPT TO GET TRUCK UNDER CONTROL; WE ENDED UP IN THE DITCH. MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER WERE INJURED. LUCKILY, NEITHER OF US WERE INJURED BAD, JUST BUMPS AND BRUISES. I HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT THE TRUCK; HE STATED THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH ALL DODGE TRUCKS FROM 2002-2008. THE STEERING GEAR BOX AND FRONT SUSPENSION ARE AT FAULT. I CONTACTED A LOCAL DODGE DEALER. THEY INFORMED ME, "DODGE IS NOT AT FAULT AND THERE ARE NO NEED FOR ANY RECALLS". I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT APPROXIMATE 45MPH, WHEN I WAS ON A BANK AND NOTICED THAT THE TRUCK WAS HARD TO STEER, THE TRUCK HAD STALLED. THE VEHICLE HAS 35" OFF ROAD TIRE ON IT SO I ASSUMED THE TIRES NEED TO BALANCED. AFTER ABOUT THREE WEEKS OF DRIVING THE REAL PROBLEMS AROSE. I DEVELOPED THE "DODGE DEATH WOBBLE". IT IS A VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE STEERING SYSTEM THAT FORCES YOU TO SLOW TO BELOW 45 MILES PER HOUR. I DRIVE TO WORK ON A HIGHWAY 5 DAYS A WEEK AND STARTED TO HAVE LOTS OF VIBRATION AND IT ONLY OCCURRED AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND WOULD CLUNK. TURNS OUT BOTH U-JOINTS FOR THE REAR DRIVE-SHAFT HAD STARTED TO FAIL AND WERE ALLOWING UNWANTED MOVEMENT. AFTER REPLACING THE U-JOINTS THE TRUCK WAS FINE FOR A FEW WEEKS THEN I HEARD SQUEALING OF METAL ON METAL CONTACT AND THERE WAS A SLIGHT WOBBLE. TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND THEY SAID THE HUB BEARINGS WERE SHOT AND WERE MOVING SO MUCH AS TO ALLOW THE WHEEL TO MOVE. AFTER REPLACING THE BEARINGS THE TRUCK WAS FINE FOR ABOUT A MONTH THEN THE WOBBLE WAS BACK AND THE TIE-RODS FOR THE STEERING LINKAGE WERE BAD, SO REPLACED THE STEERING LINKAGE WITH DODGES NEW SETUP SINCE IT WAS HARD TO FIND THE ORIGINAL ONE THAT CAME ON MINE SINCE THERE IS A RECALL ON IT. WITH THE NEW STEERING LINKAGE I GOT IT ALIGNED AND IT WAS GOOD FOR A WEEK AND DROVE STRAIGHT AND NO PROBLEMS. THEN I HIT A POTHOLE AT 55MPH WHILE GOING TO WORK AND I GOT MASSIVE WOBBLE IN THE STEERING SO MUCH SO THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TRYING TO GO BACK AND FORTH AND I HAD TO FIGHT TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD AND SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO PULL IT OVER. I LIMPED THE TRUCK TO A SHOP AND THERE WAS NOW LOTS OF PLAY IN THE STEERING AND I COULD MOVE THE WHEEL 3+ INCHES BEFORE GETTING THE WHEEL TO MOVE. THE SHOP REPLACED THE STEERING GEARBOX SINCE THE INPUT SHAFT WOULD MOVE BUT THE OUTPUT WOULD HARDLY MOVE AT ALL. HAD IT ALIGNED AGAIN AND IT STILL CAN NOT BE DRIVEN OVER 35+MPH OR IT GETS MASSIVE WOBBLE. EVERYTHING CHECKS OUT WITH THE STEERING COMPONENTS AND TIRES SINCE EVERYTHING IS ALMOST NEW TO TRY AND SOLVE THIS RECURRING PROBLEM, AND I HAVE SPENT $4578 IN PARTS AND LABOR TO TRY AND SOLVE THIS NEVER ENDING PROBLEM. THE LATEST PROBLEM IS THAT THE HVAC DOES NOT WORK. IT SEEMS THE DOORS CONTROLLING THE TEMP ARE NOT WORKING SINCE THE AC WORKS SPORADICALLY,THE DEFROST HEATS MY FEET, AND WINDOWS STAY FOGGY. *TR

AFTER PURCHASING MY 03 RAM 2500 IN JUNE OF 2010 I HAVE HAD CONTINUOUS PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT END SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED OVER 65MPH AND HITTING THE SMALLEST BUMP IN THE ROAD. I'VE BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES TO JUST BE TOLD THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK. "DEATH WOBBLE" IF THE TRUCK HITS A DIP OR BUMP IN THE ROAD THAT IS UNEVEN/ANGLE THE FRONT END STARTS SHAKING SO VIOLENTLY THE ENTIRE TRUCK WILL SHAKE. THE SHAKE IS SO VIOLENT THAT ANYTHING IN THE TRUCK GOES FLYING THROUGHOUT THE TRUCK. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE SHAKE IS TO HIT THE BRAKES AND BRING THE TRUCK TO 10-20 MPH. THERE IS NO CONTROL OVER STEERING DURING THIS SHAKING AS THE STEERING WHEEL TAKES TWO HANDS ALL YOUR STRENGTH TO HOLD ON TO. ALL DODGE DEALERS WERE SENT A SERVICE BULLETIN APROXAMATELY 3 TO 4 YEARS AGO ABOUT THIS POTENTIALLY DEADLY SAFTEY ISSUE BUT WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM THE MANAGER ACTED LIKE HE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT IT. DEATH WOBBLE! THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME TO MANY TIMES TO COUNT. I HAVE HAD THE FRONT END OF MY 2003 DODGE RAM CUMMINS REPAIRED TWICE. BOTH TIMES I HAVE HAD BALL JOINTS AND TIE RODS REPLACED ALONG WITH AXLE U JOINTS AND FOLLOWED BY ALIGNMENT. I HAVE ALSO ADDED A DUAL STEERING STABILIZER SYSTEM. I EXPERIENCED WHAT DODGE OWNERS ARE CALLING THE "DEATH WOBBLE" TODAY 24 NOV 2009 AFTER I HAD THE FRONT U-JOINTS REPLACED ON BOTH FRONT WHEELS AND THE U-JOINTS REPLACED ON THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT. I CONTACTED DAVIS MOORE IN WICHITA KS AND THEY SEEM UNCONCERNED ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I WAS DOING 60 MPH ON SOMEWHAT SMOOTH ROAD. I RAN OVER A SEAM THAT WHERE THE CONCRETE MEETS AND THAT'S WHEN I GOT THE WOBBLE THAT NEARLY DROVE ME INTO THE GUARD RAIL. I HAD EXPERIENCED IT BACK IN JULY 09 IN A TURN GOING OVER A BRIDGE. I DROVE OVER A SLIGHT BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THAT'S WHAT STARTED IT. MY WIFE INFORMED ME THAT SHE EXPERIENCED IT BACK IN APRIL 09 SAME THING DROVE OVER A BUMP AND THE WOBBLE STARTED. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS FORUMS AND BLOGS REPORTING THIS SAME PROBLEM AMONG VARIOUS OWNERS WITH DIFFERENT EQUIPMENT SPECS. SO VIOLENTLY THAT I HAVE TO LET MY FOOT OF THE GAS AND COAST TO A SPEED THAT PUTS MY LIFE IN DANGER BECAUSE I CAN NOT SAFELY OR RELIABLY STEER THE TRUCK OFF THE ROAD. WHILE UTILIZING THE DRIVER'S SIDE TURN SIGNAL, THE PASSENGER SIDE TURN SIGNAL WOULD ILLUMINATE INSTEAD. THIS FAILURE WAS ALSO REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT WAS EXPERIENCING VERY HARD VIBRATIONS FORM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. HE STRUCK A SQUIRREL IN THE ROAD AND NEARLY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE VIBRATIONS. A LOCAL SERVICE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING LINKAGES IN THE VEHICLE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. HE LATER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE SUSPENSION AND EXCESSIVE VIBRATIONS (STEERING LINKAGES). THIS PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. I THEN RECEIVED A RECALL FOR A SAFETY PROBLEM IN THE FRONT END OF MY VEHICLE AND THOUGHT, OK, THIS PROBLEM IS BEING ADRESSED AND CHRYSLER IS GOING TO FIX IT. 2003 DODGE 2500 QUAD CAB 4X4. DIESEL: WHEN DRIVING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS IT BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER AND CONTROL AFTER HITTING A ROUGH SPOT IN THE ROADWAY AND A ROUGH BRIDGE. DOES NOT DO IT ALL OF THE TIME SO YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN TO EXPECT IT. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE PROBLEM IS TO SLOW WAY DOWN, AT LEAST 25 TO 30 MPH SLOWER. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT ONE OTHER CUSTOMER IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY THOUGHT THAT THEY HAD FIXED IT BY REPLACING THE STEERING DAMPENER, BUT HE HAD IT HAPPEN AGAIN AND SPUN OUT OF CONTROL.*AK

I DRIVE A 2003 RAM 2500 QUAD CAB PICKUP. SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS I HAVE COME TO A BUMP IN THE ROAD, (SOMETIMES JUST A REPAIR LEFT AFTER CONSTRUCTION), AND NEARLY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES LOOSE FEELING, AND THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY LOOSES CONTACT WITH THE ROADWAY. I FEAR HAVING THIS HAPPEN SOMEPLACE WHERE THERE ARE OTHER VEHICLES IN CLOSE QUARTERS. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE I PURCHASED IT. MY SERVICE MANAGER ADMITS HE HAS HAD THIS SAME EXPERIENCE IN A DEMO VEHICLE HE DROVE. HE LOWERED THE TIRE PRESSURE (WAY BELOW WHAT I THOUGHT WAS RECOMMENDED). THIS DOES HELP SOME, BUT IT DOESN'T COMPLETELY FIX THE PROBLEM. I ALSO WORRY ABOUT DRIVING ON UNDERINFLATED TIRES. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES, WITH THE MOST RECENT BEING TODAY.*AK

AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, 65 MPH AND ABOVE, ALL 2003 AND 2004 RAM TRUCKS WITH FOUR WHEEL DRIVE VIBRATE BECAUSE OF A NEW ENGINEERING DESIGN. I HAVE TAKEN MY TRUCK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR AND CHRYSLER, WHILE THEY KNOW OF THIS PROBLEM AND MADE AN ADJUSTMENT TO THE PINION GEAR, INSISTS IT IS NORMAL FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY A NEW DESIGN BY WHICH THE FRONT DRIVE PINION IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES SPINS CONTINUOUSLY, EVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS DESIGN IS NOT NORMALLY USED IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE OF VIBRATION ISSUES. IT MAKES THE MIRRORS SHAKE AND ALSO MAKES OCCUPANTS NAUSEOUS. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, IF A 65 MPH HIGHWAY IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR EVALUATION PRIOR TO PURCHASE (SUCH AS IN MY CASE), THE BUYER IS UNAWARE OF THIS SERIOUS ISSUE. *LA

WHILE DRIVING AT 15 MPH, THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT FELL APART, THE DRIVER LOSS CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE OF THE STEERING SHAFT FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE PINCH BOLT FALLING OUT. *AK THE CONSUMER MAKING A RIGHT TURN TOWING A SMALL TRAILER WHEN THE STEERING SHAFT SEPARATED AND THE VEHICLE VEERED INTO THE DITCH. *SCC *JB

SEAT BECOMES A PROBLEM WHEN THE TEMPERATURE GETS COLDER. COOL MORNINGS WILL CAUSE THE SEATS TO RISE 3 INCHES CAUSING DRIVER OR PASSENGER NOT TO SIT CORRECTLY AND BUCKLE SEAT BELT. THIS ALSO CAUSES DRIVER TO READJUST MIRROR AS TEMPERATURES RISE AND CUSHION LOWERS. AS THESE CHANGES OCCUR DRIVER MUST ADJUST SEAT FORWARD AND BACK MAKING USE OF MIRRORS IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT NUMEROUS CORRECTIONS DAILY.ALSO, VEHICLE WANDERS ON HIGHWAY, DRIVER MUST CONTINUOUSLY MOVE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP VEHICLE BETWEEN LINES ON CONSUMER'S SIDE OF THE ROAD. IN ADDITION, DETECTED CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM STEERING BOX. *AK
