The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 13V528000 (Steering) and 16V352000 (Air Bags) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

My vehicle had wat is known as the 3rd gen steering assembly. Which is known and reported by multiple consumers to cause wat everyone calls a death wobble " Death wobble happens in Jeeps, 4x4s, and trucks when rapidly rotating steering wheel components cause your steering wheel to move rapidly from side to side. This causes your vehicle to feel like it's about to fall apart and you want to hold onto the steering wheel for dear life." Which cause me to nearly crash multiple times and the only way to get it to stop is to slow to speeds below 30. So I did research on how to correct this problem I found the only true fix would be to redo the whole assembly with the 4th gen assembly. Now that my issue is fixed I'm now worried about other drivers of the same vehicles safety. And wonder why no recall was made even though the dealer know of the issue thus coming up with the 4th gen assembly.

When driving over some overpasses on highways the "bump" causes the whole front end to shake and makes steering very hard to maintain. I have heard this called "the Dodge death wobble" and has been reported by many other Dodge Ram owners. I have had all of the ball joints and tie rod replaced. This is a highly disturbing occurrence when traveling at a speed of 65-70 mpr on a highway. This has happened to me more than once and is a very scary feeling, thinking my front tires are coming off. Is there a recall to correct this?

dodge death wobble. this death wobble started prior to my 100000mile warranty expired, but by the time i drove the truck home, it was over the milage. After a lot of bs and a fee, Dodge "fixed" my problem. ( for a while) They have refused to re-repair their bad design since. .I've spent many hours and money temporarily repairing their front end design. If i hit a bump in the road while exceeding 55 mph the truck violently shakes and i cannot control the direction. I went off the freeway in Salt Lake this last weekend after putting new tie rods (again) on the front end. You know what this is ! Dodge has never remedied this situation. !

THE BALL JOINTS WERE REPLACED WHEN I PURCHASED THE TRUCK, THE COMPLETE FRONT TIE RODS AS A KIT WERE REPLACED THIS WEEK NOW TO GET A WHEEL ALIGNMENT I HAVE TO REPLACE THE LOWER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ON THE STEERING COLUMN? I WENT TO DODGE AND WAS TOLD THE STEERING SHAFT IS AVAILABLE BUT WOULD NOT WORK AS I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE UPPER AS WELL AS IT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE THAT DODGE UPGRADED THE ITEM? THE TOTAL COST WOULD BE $600+ FOR BOTH? IF THE STEERING COMPONENTS FOR DRIVING HAVE BEEN UPGRADED AND THE ORIGINAL IS NO LONGER MADE AVAILABLE WHY IS THIS NOT A RECALL? IF THE U-JOINT FAILS THE TRUCK IS GOING TO BE UNSTEER ABLE? WHY WAS AN UPGRADE DONE AND NO ONE INFORMED? WHY DOES THE COST GO TO ME WHEN I SHOULD BE ABLE TO BUY THE OEM SECTION THAT WAS MADE IN 2004? IT IS DISCONTINUED EVERY WHERE ON LINE FOR PURCHASE. THERE FORE THERE IS A DEFECT OR ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AND NOT SHARED WITH THE PUBLIC!

AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 70MPH AFTER HITTING THE SLIGHTEST OF BUMPS OR BRIDGE JOINTS THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK WOULD VIOLENTLY SHAKE SO BAD THAT I COULDN'T CONTROL IT AND SENT THE TRUCK SIDEWAYS ALMOST FLIPPING IT AND HITTING A TRACTOR TRAILER BUT THANK GOD I DIDNT. MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE DRIVING IT AND AT 60 HIT A BUMP AND SHE ALSO ALMOST WRECKED IT WITH OUR KIDS IN THE TRUCK! ITS BEEN IN THE SHOP AND AT THIS POINT IM PAYING SOMEONE ELSE TO OWN IT. MY TRUCK IS ONLY USED FOR TOWING A FIFTH WHEEL, THUS THE LOW MILEAGE. ON A TRIP, THE TRUCK STALLED WITH NO WARNING ON THE FREEWAY, LOST POWER, POWER BRAKES AND POWER STEERING IN THE 2ND FROM RIGHT LANE. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO PULL IT OVER AND STOP, IN AN UNSAFE AREA. 4 HRS LATER A TOW FOR TRUCK AND 5TH WHEEL WAS ARRANGED. THE TACOMA DODGE DEALER REPLACED THE LIFT FUEL PUMP WITH AN IN TANK LIFT FUEL PUMP. APPARENTLY THE BLOCK MOUNTED PUMP "ALWAYS FAILS AROUND 70K MILES", WHICH IS WHAT MY TRUCK HAS LOGGED. THE HEAT KILLS THE PUMP. I PAID $2106.47 FOR THE REPAIR. THE NEW PUMP FAILED IN LESS THAN 6 MONTHS OR 2K MILES. THE EVERETT DWAYNE LANE DEALER HAS THE TRUCK NOW FOR TWO WEEKS, AND CANNOT GET THE WARRANTED PUMP REPLACED FOR ANOTHER 2 WEEKS DUE TO BACK ORDER FROM MOPAR. I BELIEVE THE PUMP TO BE A DEFECT CAUSING EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD, AS NO WARNING LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES ARE AFFECTED. I PURCHASED NEW SHOCKS AND DUAL STEERING STABILIZER TO POSSIBLY REMEDY THE PROBLEM TO NO AVAIL. I DROPPED VEHICLE AT GALEANA DODGE OF FT MYERS FLORIDA AFTER VIEWING MULTIPLE RECALLS PERTINENT TO MY SITUATION. THEY CALLED AND SAID THAT THE RECALL ONLY INCLUDES AN INSPECTION. EVEN AFTER MY EXPLANATION OF NOT BEING ABLE TO DRIVE OVER 30 MPH BECAUSE OF REGULARLY OCCURRING "DEATH WOBBLE" I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO REGARDING THE MULTIPLE RECALLS. I FEEL THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THE MANUFACTURER, THROUGH GALEANA DODGE, SHOULD REPLACE ALL THE FAULT PRONE STEERING COMPONENTS. I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 65MPH AND SUDDENLY THE TRUCK AND STEERING BEGAN VIBRATING AND SHAKING VIOLENTLY UNTIL I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED. IT FELT LIKE ALL FOUR TIRES HAD BLOWN OUT. I CALLED MY LOCAL DODGE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS MOST LIKELY THE "DEATH WOBBLE". I HAD NEVER HEARD THIS AND HE ALSO SAID TO CHANGE THE STEERING DAMPENER, WHICH I DID. THIS VIOLENT VIBRATION HAS HAPPENED AGAIN ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS SINCE THE STABLIZER SHOCK WAS REPLACED. I WILL NOT DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY ANY LONGER WITH MY TRUCK DUE TO THIS SERIOUS SAFETY/STERRING/SUSPENSION ISSUE THAT VERY EASILY COULD CAUSE SERIOUS BODILY HARM/DEATH DUE TO POSSIBLE ACCIDENT.

I AM A FEMALE AND TRYING TO HOLD ON TO THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE IT JERKED VIOLENTLY BACK AND FORTH WAS ALMOST NOT DOABLE. WHEN IS DODGE GOING TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING A SAFE TRUCK FOR US TO DRIVE? IT BECOMES NEARLY UNCONTROLLABLE UNTIL I SLOW TO BELOW 30 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP ALWAYS CLAIMS THAT THEY EITHER "CANNOT DUPLICATE" THE ISSUE, OR THAT THEY COULDN'T FIX IT IF THEY COULD DUPLICATE IT ANYWAY. I BOUGHT THE DODGE RAM USED IN 2013 AND HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE EVER SINCE. I DID NOT KNOW THAT THIS WAS A COMMON DODGE RAM PROBLEM, THAT HAS BEEN IGNORED BY CHRYSLER, OR I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THE TRUCK.

IN JULY 2014, TRAVELING ALONG A 2 LANE HIGHWAY, WE HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE TRUCK STARTED TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE TO THE POINT WHERE WE HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP ON THE ROAD. SCARED THE ENTIRE FAMILY AS WE GOT OUT TO SEE IF WE HAD A TIRE FAILURE. NOTHING SEEMED OUT OF THE ORDINARY. CONTINUED ON THE VACATION AND HAD IT OCCUR 3-5 MORE TIMES WHILE IN THE TRUCK. WHILE ON VACATION, HAD THE STEERING DAMPER(STABILIZER) AND ROTATED THE TIRES BUT THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. UPON RETURN HOME, TOOK IT TO A NON-CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER AS THE LOCAL DODGE DEALER WAS 3 WEEKS OUT ON GETTING THE TRUCK IN. THEY REPLACED BOTH UPPER AND LOWER TIE RODS JOINTS, WHEEL BEARINGS AND ALIGNED THE VEHICLE. $2000 APPROXIMATE COST PLUS THE STEERING STABILIZER AND NO FIX. TOOK THE TRUCK ON ANOTHER EXTENDED TRIP ON 4/3 AND HAD IT OCCUR AGAIN. WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER DEALER TODAY (4/6), THE SERVICE ADVISOR WAS UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK AND ADVISED ME TO BRING IT IN WHICH I WILL DO NEXT WEEK. THIS LAST TIME 02/16/2015, THEY HAD ME DRIVING 30 MINUTES TO THEIR SHOP, IN TREACHEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS CAUSED BY 5 INCHES OF SLEET AND SNOW RECEIVED THE NIGHT BEFORE. THEN THEY ENDED UP WASTING OVER 3 HOURS OF MY TIME/DAY BY NOT DOING ANY WORK AT ALL TO MY TRUCK THE WHOLE TIME IT SAT IN THEIR SHOP AND TRIED TO MAKE ME PAY IN EXCESS OF $575 FOR ANY WORK THEY WAS GOING TO DO. I HAD ALREADY REBUILT THE ENTIRE FRONT END IN MID 2013 AND IN 2014 I DUMPED $10000 INTO REBUILDING THE ENGINE BECAUSE IT BLEW 4 OF THE 6 COMPRESSION RINGS FOR SOME REASON, I CAN'T AFFORD TO REBUILD THE WHOLE FRONT END.......AGAIN. APPROXIMATELY 110 MILES INTO A 200 MILE TRIP. I DROVE OVER AN INTERSTATE BRIDGE EXP. JOINT, WHEN MY TRUCK STARTED TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY , I HIT THE BRAKES AND CAME TO A STOP AT THE FAR END. AFTER GATHERING MY SANITY, GOT OUT TO INSPECT WHAT MIGHT HAVE FAILED, BUT VISUALLY COULD FIND NOTHING. I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE AND CAREFULLY PROCEEDED UP THE ROAD,TO FIND THAT THE "PROBLEM" HAD CEASED. 40 MINS LATER I ENCOUNTERED A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. IN BOTH CASES, I WAS THANKFUL THERE WAS NO OTHER CARS BEHIND ME. AFTER RETURNING HOME , I WENT TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS LIKELY A STEERING STABILIZER AT FAULT. I HAD THEM DO THE REPAIR, ALL THE WHILE TALKING TO SERVICE ABOUT THE DANGER OF THE SITUATIONS I HAD BEEN FACED WITH, AND IN AWE THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE, SEEMINGLY THE ISSUE WAS FIXED. THREE MONTHS LATER A RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE TIE RODS IN THIS VEHICLE, THAT COULD FAIL AND RESULT IN THE SITUATION I HAD PREVIOUSLY. AFTER 10 AND A HALF MONTHS OF BEING TOLD THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO DO COMPLETE THE RECALL REPAIR, THEY FINALLY CAME IN AND THE REPAIR WAS MADE. THREE WEEKS AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE , I WAS TRAVELING THE INTERSTATE (APPROX. 11-29-14) I WAS FACED WITH THE EXACT SAME UNCONTROLLABLE VIOLENT WOBBLE, THAT BROUGHT ME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSTATE BRIDGE, WHERE I WAS NARROWLY MISSED BY AN 18 WHEELER IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR. IN THE 166 MILES FROM MY HOME TO THE DOCTOR OFFICE AND BACK HOME AGAIN I HAD TO STOP THIS TRUCK 15 TIMES. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I HAD TO PAY $1,699.31FOR THE DAMAGE THAT WAS CAUSE BY A DEFECTIVE PART THAT NO ONE WANT TO REPLACE UNDER WHAT SHOULD BE A RECALL. CHRYSLER SAYS THAT BECAUSE OF THE YEAR AND MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE THAT IT WAS MY PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE REDESIGNED THE PART THAT CAUSE THIS PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. AND EVEN AFTER I PAY THE FIRST REPAIR BILL THE TRUCK STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM UNTIL THE MECHANIC TIGHTEN THE BOLTS ON THE PART. THE TRUCK IS STILL HANDLING THE SAME AS BEFORE IT WAS FIX. ON 9/9/13, WHILE BACKING UP IN A PARKING LOT, THE SAME MENTIONED "NEW" PART FRACTURED RENDERING MY TRUCK UNABLE TO BE STEERED. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART FRACTURED JUST LIKE THE RECALL SAID THE ORIGINAL PART WAS SUSCEPTIBLE TO DOING. THE RECALL SAYS, "THE PROBLEM IS...THE LEFT TIE ROD BALL STUD ON YOUR TRUCK MAY FRACTURE UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS. TRAVELING ON HWY AT 55 MPH WHEN TRUCK LOST ALL POWER INCLUDING POWER STEERING. NO WARNING. STEERED TO SIDE OF HWY AND STOPPED. HWY WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AND 50 MORE YARDS I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN MIDDLE OF ROAD BECAUSE NO SHOULDER WITH CONSTRUCTION. TRUCK RESTARTED, AND I CONTINUED ON BECAUSE IN RURAL AREA. TRUCK STOPPED AGAIN IN MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION IN TOWN ABOUT 2HRS LATER. DEALER COULD NOT LOOK AT IT UNTIL NEXT DAY, SO I HAD TO DRIVE HOME (40 MI) AND HOPE I MADE IT. BROUGHT IT BACK NEXT MORNING AND TOLD NEEDED NEW LIFT PUMP AND WOULD KEEP IT OVERNIGHT. MY DEALER'S SERVICE DEPT IS GREAT, AND THEY GAVE ME A RIDE HOME (40 MI). NO OPTION TO INSTALL ORIGINAL PUMP OF SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS. HAD TO INSTALL ONE IN THE FUEL TANK WITH COST OF $1000. SEVERAL CONCERNS. ONE, THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ENGINEERING DEFECT SINCE THEY NOW INSTALL THE LIFT PUMP IN THE GAS TANK WHERE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALL ALONG. TWO, THEY ARE MAKING A NICE SUM TO REPLACE IT AND PUT IT IN THE TANK. THREE, THIS IS AN URGENT SAFETY FACTOR BECAUSE WHEN VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN, THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. THERE ARE DROP-OFFS WITH NARROW SHOULDERS (OR NO SHOULDER AS IN MY CASE BECAUSE OF CONSTRUCTION) ALONG HWYS IN MY AREA. I COULD VERY EASILY HAVE GONE OVER OR DOWN THE SIDE OF ONE OF OUR HILLS. FOUR, VEHICLE CAN LOSE POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WHEN MAKING A TURN IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC (AS IT DID IN MY CASE). FIVE, THERE IS NO PRIOR WARNING OR WAY TO CHECK THE POTENTIAL OF THIS HAPPENING. WHEN THIS HAPPENED YESTERDAY AND I STARTED RESEARCHING, IT WAS THE FIRST I HAD HEARD OF IT. I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 DODGE 2500 4X4 DIESEL PICKUP AT 40-45 MPH. AS I WAS GOING INTO A CURVE IN THE ROAD, I DROVE OVER A ROUGH PART IN THE ROAD AND THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY BACK AND FORTH (LEFT AND RIGHT). IT WAS VERY HARD TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, I NEARLY CRASHED INTO A CAR ON ONE SIDE OF ME AND A BRIDGE RAILING ON THE OTHER SIDE. I THOUGHT MAYBE ONE OF THE FRONT WHEELS WAS COMING OFF THE AXLE OR I HAD A BLOWOUT. I SLOWED DOWN AND FINALLY GOT THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL. I TOOK IT TO A DIESEL REPAIR SHOP IMMEDIATELY AFTER THIS HAPPENED AND THEY FOUND THE STEERING STABILIZER SHOCK LEAKING, THE OUTER TIE ROD AT THE DRAG LINK AND INNER TIE ROD HAD SOME PLAY, AND BOTH UPPER BALL JOINTS HAD SOME PLAY. THEY REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER SHOCK, THE RIGHT INNER TIE ROD, AND THE RIGHT OUTER TIE ROD. THESE REPAIRS CAME TO CLOSE TO $400. THEY MENTIONED THE "DEATH WOBBLE" PROBLEM AND SUGGESTED WE MIGHT ADD ADDITIONAL AFTERMARKET PARTS TO THE FRONT SUSPENSION TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. THE SHOP COULD NOT DO THE WORK RIGHT THEN OR I WOULD HAVE HAD IT DONE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE NOW; IT TOOK ALL MY DRIVING EXPERIENCE AND STRENGTH TO GET CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, I DO NOT THINK A WEAKER OR INEXPERIENCED DRIVER COULD HAVE KEPT THE VEHICLE FROM CRASHING. THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE DEFECT UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07E009000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS INELIGIBLE BECAUSE THE RECALL DID NOT PERTAIN TO THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. 2004.5 RAM QC 4X4 DIESEL. EXTREMELY LOOSE STEERING/FRONT END AFTER LESS THAN 60,000 MILES. NO FULL-ON DEATH WOBBLE, BUT CAME CLOSE WHEN HITTING BUMPS. RESEARCH INDICATED THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE ON THESE TRUCKS DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE AAM 9.25 AXLE. BALL JOINTS ARE TOO SMALL FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE TRUCK AND ONLY THE BOTTOM 2 JOINTS BEAR THE WEIGHT. THE UPPER 2 BALL JOINTS BEAR NO WEIGHT AND ARE NOT BALL JOINTS, BUT MORE LIKE PINS THAT ALLOW VERTICAL MOVEMENT WHEN TURNING (BECAUSE OF THE POOR GEOMETRY DESIGN OF THE AXLE). DUE TO THIS ARRANGEMENT, THERE ARE NO ADJUSTMENTS OF ANY KIND FOR WEAR AND ANY WEAR ON THE LOWER JOINTS RESULTS IN LOOSENESS. THIS IN TURN CAUSES MORE STRESS ON THE UPPER JOINTS AND THEY FAIL QUICKLY. I REFUSE TO PAY THE RIDICULOUS PRICE AT THE DEALER FOR POOR QUALITY DESIGN AND PARTS THAT WILL FAIL SOON AGAIN. I PURCHASED VERY EXPENSIVE BALL JOINTS THAT HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO HELP OVERCOME THE INADEQUACIES OF THIS LOW QUALITY AXLE. ALSO HAD TO REPLACE ALL TIRE ROD ENDS, LINK ARMS, TRACKBAR AND STEERING DAMPER. STEERING BOX WAS ALSO WORN SEVERELY DUE TO THE FRONT END PARTS WALLOWING AROUND CONSTANTLY. I ADDED A STEERING BRACE TO HELP. WHEEL BEARINGS ALSO SHOT, BUT THEY ARE NOT SERVICEABLE ON THIS AXLE. ENTIRE HUB HAS TO BE REPLACED WITH NON SERVICEABLE BEARINGS PRE-INSTALLED. VERY EXPENSIVE TO DO AT $300 EACH INSTEAD OF THE USUAL $40 OR SO PER WHEEL!!! DISGUSTED WITH DEALERSHIPS THAT ARE CLUELESS ABOUT THIS AXLE. THEY ALL WANT TO JUST BLAME IT ON TIRE BALANCE, ALIGNMENT OR DRIVING HABITS. EVEN THE "CERTIFIED MECHANICS" IN THEIR GARAGE ARE CLUELESS AS WELL. DODGE DEATH WOBBLE. I HAVE A 2004 DODGE RAM 2500 THAT HAS THE DEATH WOBBLE. I SEE NOT MANY HAVE BEEN REPORTED, BUT EVERYONE ENDS UP WITH IT AT ONE POINT. READ MESSAGE BOARDS. WE OWN A 2004 DODGE RAM 2500, THEY HAD A RECALL ON IT WAS H46, WHICH WAS A STEERING LINKAGE, WE TOOK IT OUR DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS OK, BUT THE STEERING SHAFT WAS ABOUT TO FALL OUT. FAILURE IS IMMINENT, THEY SAID VEHICLE IS UNSAFE FOR THE ROAD, I TRIED TO BUY THE LOWER SHAFT, BUT I CAN'T GET IT WITHOUT BUYING THE UPPER SHAFT, BECAUSE OF A DESIGN CHANGE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT END OF MY 2004 DODGE RAM 2500 3/4 TON FOUR WHEEL DRIVE RANGING FROM POOR RIDE (SHAKING AND SHIMMYING), TIRE WEAR, AND SEVERAL GEARBOXES BEING REPLACED. I ORIGINALLY TOOK IT IN WITH 35,000 MILES ON IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE TIRES BEING OUT OF BALANCE AND THAT THE TIRE WERE WORE WRONG CAUSING THE SHIMMY FEELING. NOW, TWO YEARS LATER THE TIRES ON THE RIGHT SIDE ARE DESTROYED, SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT. I TOOK IT TO LOCAL TIRE COMPANY TO HAVE NEW TIRES AND AN ALIGNMENT DONE AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS THE NEED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH ONE TIE ROD AT 52,000 MILES, COSTING $1,500 FOR THE WORK ON THE FRONT END AND $900 FOR TIRES. FOR A VECHICLE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN ABUSED OR SERIOUSLY TAKEN OFF-ROAD THIS IS RIDICULOUS. *TR

I TOO HAVE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED THE VIOLENT SHAKING/SHIMMY OR DEATH WOBBLE"WITH THE 2004 RAM 2500, THE FIRST TIME AT 75-80 MPH AND COULD DO NOTHING TO STOP THE PROBLEM,. I FIGURED I WAS GOING TOO FAST AND HIT A BUMP AT A WEIRD ANGLE. THEN, IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT 60-65 MPH WITH THE SAME RESULTS. YOU HAVE TO JUST HANG ON AND SLOW THE TRUCK DOWN AND HOPE PEOPLE GET OUT OF THE WAY. THE THIRD TIME IT WAS THE FINAL ONE. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY REPLACE THE STEERING DAMPER, THAT WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITH NO HELP. THE PROBLEM ACTUALLY GOT WORSE AND OCCURRED AGAIN AT MUCH LOWER SPEED. I WILL BE REPLACING THE INNER AND OUTER RIGHT TIE RODS, AND WILL TRY AGAIN ONCE THEY ARRIVED. UNTIL THEN I WOULD BE CONFINED TO CITY DRIVING. AT LESS THAN 4000 MILES ON MY '04 DODGE RAM 2500 I EXPERIENCED VIOLENT SHAKING IN THE FRONT-END AT ABOUT 70-75 MPH. I HAD TO SLOW TO ABOUT 35 TO RECOVER. THIS OCCURED ON A POOR STRETCH OF INTERSTATE THEREFOR I AVOIDED THIS STRETCH FOR SOMETIME. AT ABOUT 13000 MILES I EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP TO RECOVER. THIS OCCURED THREE MORE TIMES ON THAT TRIP AND EACH TIME THE ONSET OCCURED AT A SLOWER SPEED. THE SHAKE IS SO VIOLENT THAT THERE IS NO STEERING CONTROL AND SLOWING TO ABRUPTLY ENHANCED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET YET ONLY FIVE REPORTED TO THE NHTSA. THERE ARE CURRENTLY THREE OTHER PICKUPS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS BEING SERVICED AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP I TOOK MINE TO. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THEY HAVEN'T TRACKED THE PROBLEM AND DODGE HAS BEEN OF NO HELP. I CURRENTLY HAVE 600 MILES ON IT SINCE THE REPAIR AND THE PROBLEM IS BACK. THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT A DOUBT WILL CAUSE A FATAL CRASH. I AM CURRENTLY RESTRICTED TO TOWN DRIVING UNTIL THIS PROBLEM IS SOLVED.
