The pickup has had issue with being very difficult to come out of park. Upon searching internet is seems this is very common and expensive to fix being one of two (or both) things. The shift cable linkage and bushings premature wear, or the valve body release allowing the shifter to be removed from park. Either way concern is this will fail causing inability to shift safely into park and prevent an accident. Extremely unsafe. I have been advised this was already corrected by qualified dealer, but no change. Vehicle has just under 93,000 miles on it and only highway

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that the transfer case was making abnormal shifting sounds while the vehicle was parked. The contact stated that the transfer case was replaced; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was parked while he was working in the garage. The contact stated that he heard a clicking sound coming from the engine, and the vehicle started rolling backwards towards the street. The contact stated that he immediately entered the vehicle and engaged the electronic parking brake, and the vehicle stopped. The contact also stated that the vehicle hesitated to shift into the proper gear while driving. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in TSB Number: 18-091-22. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the computer was flashed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and contacted the dealer; however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 223,800.

I WAS DRIVING ON I-75 @70MPH, A LOUD BANG HAPPENED, TRUCK SHUT OFF, I GUIDED IT OFF THE ROAD. I HAD WIRES HANGING I LOOKED FURTHER AND SEEN THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT BLEW APART. MY MECHANIC SAID IT HAD LOCKED UP. THE TRANSFER CASE, TRANSMISSION, FLOOR BOARD OF THE TRUCK WAS ALSO ALL DAMAGED. ALSO SAID I WAS LUCKY THAT THE TRUCK DID NOT CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS TRUCK IS A 2006 DODGE RAM 2500 HD. WELL TAKEN CARE OF. NO GIVEN REASON WHY THIS HAPPENED. MY MECHANIC SAID HE HAS SEEN THIS MANY TIMES IN THE DODGE TRUCKS THAT THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT BLOWS APART. TOTAL DAMAGES WILL BE THE COST OF $8,000-$10,000

COLUMN SHIFTER LEVER HAD BEEN DIFFICULT TO MOVE FOR MONTHS FROM P (PARK) TO ANY OTHER GEAR (R, D, 1-2-3). THE SHIFTING MECHANISM BROKE TODAY AFTER I STARTED THE ENGINE (TRUCK HAD BEEN PARKED OVERNIGHT IN MY HOME'S DRIVEWAY) WHEN I TRIED TO MOVE THE SHIFTER FROM PARK TO REVERSE TO EXIT THE DRIVEWAY AND DRIVE VEHICLE ELSEWHERE. SHIFTER WILL NOT ENGAGE TRANSMISSION INTO ANY GEAR NOW; TRUCK IS NOT DRIVABLE. REQUIRED AN OVERSIZE ROLLBACK TOW TRUCK TO COME GET IT AND TAKE IT TO A REPAIR SHOP SINCE MY PICKUP HAS A LONG BED.

WE WERE DRIVING DOWN A FREEWAY AND ON OUR WAY TO THE BEACH AND SUDDENLY THE TRUCK VIBRATED VIOLENTLY AND WE HEARD A LOUD NOISE, WE WERE ABLE TO PULL ALMOST TO THE SHOULDER WHEN THE TRUCK CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. WE TRIED TO RESTART IT BUT IT WON'T RUN, THE DRIVE SHAFT FELL OFF THE TRUCK AND WAS LYING ON THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY, THE REAR WHEEL WAS LOCKED. WE WERE LUCKY THAT WE WERE DRIVING EARLY IN THE MORNING WHEN THERE WAS NOT MUCH TRAFFIC, IF NOT THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY SERIOUS IF NOT FATAL ACCIDENT. WE HAVE 4 PEOPLE IN THE TRUCK TOWING A BOAT AND MY WIFE IS 3-MONTH PREGNANT. WE WERE THANKFUL THAT THERE WAS A SHOULDER THERE FOR US TO REACT IN ABOUT 3 SECONDS WE GOT BEFORE IT BROKE DOWN COMPLETELY. WE COULD HAVE LOST OUR BABY OR OURSELVES IF THERE WERE A LOT OF TRAFFIC MOVING FAST. USUALLY A LITTLE LATER IN THE DAY. WE WAITED ALMOST 5 HOURS FOR THE TOW TRUCK TO COME, AND HAVE TO ASK FOR HELP TO TAKE US HOME. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO AAMCO NEARBY AND HAS BEEN THERE FOR 12 DAYS WAITING FOR THEM TO ORDER PARTS. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE U-JOINTS WERE BAD AND NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY THAT CAUSED THE DRIVE SHAFT TO FELL AND DESTROYED THE WHOLE REAR END BOTTOM. THE REPAIR COST IS ALMOST $2000. FROM MY RESEARCH, THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AS A COMMON PROBLEM IN DODGE RAM, AND DODGE HAD A RECALL ON THIS BUT ONLY ON CERTAIN MODELS AND YEARS AND OURS IS NOT INCLUDED WHICH IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN, TO PREVENT A DEADLY ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED A DODGE DEALER AND THEY JUST SAID IT'S CAUSED BY WEAR AND TEAR, BUT WEAR AND TEAR SHOULDN'T BE A REASON IT CAN CAUSE A DEADLY ACCIDENT.

THE HESITATION WHILE IN MOTION TO GET INTO TRAFFIC OR WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT WE ARE LITERALLY SHOVING OUR FOOT THROUGH THE FLOOR BOARD WHILE THE TRUCK IS TRYING TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT IT WANTS TO SHIFT1-2. WE LHAD TO LIMP HOME FROM A ROAD TRIP AND TAKE IT BACK TO OUR TRANSMISSION PLACE WE HAD JUST REBUILT IT 8 MONTHS AGO FOR THE SAME REASON WE TOOK IT TO HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE. WE KNOW FOR A FACT WHAT PARTS WERE USED TO REBUILD THE TRANNY, AND WE SHOULD HAVE ANY PROBLEMS, ONLY FOR THEM TO SAY OH WHEN YOU HAVE CHANGED OUT YOUR BATTERIES OR SUCH THE ELECTRICAL COULD ALSO MESS WITH THE GOVERNOR OR THE SOLENOID. WELL LET'S JUST SAY WE HAVE NOT CHANGED BATTERIES NOR HAVE WE TOWED ANYTHING IN THE LAST 16 MONTHS. DODGE NEEDS TO HELP FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT WHEN TRYING TO MANEUVER IN AND OUT OF TRAFFIC AND AVOID GETTING REAR ENDED OR T-BONED BECAUSE OF THE DELAY IN THE TRUCK TRYING TO SHIFT INTO THE APPROPRIATE GEARS. THIS TIME WE HAD TO REPLACE AND REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION, I DON'T LIKE SHELLING OUT THAT KIND OF MONEY WHEN DODGE IS FULLY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND REFUSES TO RECALL THE VEHICLES WHICH THEY ARE AWARE OF WITH THE SOLENOID ISSUES EITHER GETTING STUCK OPEN OR CLOSED AND MAKING THE REPAIRS, MAKING IT VERY COSTLY TO THE CONSUMER. CLUTCH PEDAL WILL OCCASIONALLY NOT DISENGAGE THE CLUTCH AFTER EXTENDED VEHICLE OPERATION, PARTICULARLY IN HOT AMBIENT TEMPERATURES. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AT LEAST 6 TIMES SINCE 2009; AFTER EXTENDED DRIVING (WITH OR WITHOUT TOWING, USUALLY IN WARMER TEMPERATURES) THE CLUTCH PEDAL CANNOT BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR TO DISENGAGE THE CLUTCH FROM THE FLYWHEEL. THE FIRST INCIDENT, IN 2009, OCCURRED AFTER I STOPPED MY TRUCK FOR FUEL, AND RESULTED IN VEHICLE MOVEMENT DURING ENGINE CRANKING WHEN I FORCED THE CLUTCH PEDAL DOWN FAR ENOUGH TO ENGAGE THE CLUTCH POSITION SWITCH TO ALLOW CRANKING. THESE TRUCKS HAVE BEEN SOLD WITH FAULTY ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS THAT DODGE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT WITH OUT COSTING THE OWNERS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. THE TPIM MODULE CONSTANTLY NEEDS TO BE REFLASHED AND REPLACED TO KEEP YOUR TRUCKS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WORKING. THEY HAVE DESIGNED THIS SYSTEM SO THAT THE CONSUMER CANNOT REPAIR OR EVEN INSPECT THE SYSTEM WHICH I BELIEVE IS A VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW. THE FAILURE RECURRED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON TEN SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME DEFECT. THE FOUR TIRES WERE ROTATED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NOT A REMEDY AVAILABLE TO CORRECT THE MALFUNCTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000. MY TRUCK IS IN GREAT CONDITION EXCEPT FOR TWO MAJOR CONCERNS..MY A/C WENT OUT IN DEC. 2010 IT WAS REPLACED WITH ANOTHER DEFECTIVE ONE WHICH WAS IMMEDIATELY REPLACED AGAIN. DEALER DID NOT REPLACE THE FLAPPER UNDER DASH. I TOOK TRUCK IN NOV. 2011 THE WINDSHIELD WOULD GET EXTREMELY FOGGY AND A NOISE WOULD COME FROM UNDER DASH WHEN I PUT A/C ON HIGH, DEALER SAID IT WAS THE FLAP THAT WOULD CONTROL WHERE THE AIR IS DIRECTED. THEY WANTED 800.00 TO REPLACE A 34.00 PART. I TOLD THEM THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED WHEN THEY REPLACED A/C. DEALER SAID IT STILL WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY ANYWAY. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WHEN FOG GETS ON WINDSHIELD WHY DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE A PART IS RECALLED. I HAVE TO OPEN MY WINDOWS TO DEFROST MY WINDSHIELD. THE OTHER ISSUE IS WHEN TRUCK IS SUPPOSEDLY IN PARK AND YOU OPEN THE DOOR THE HORN HONKS, DASH LIGHTS TURN ON AND OFF AND TWICE IT HAS JUMPED INTO REVERSE ON IT'S OWN. THE FIRST TIME I WAS AT THE POST OFFICE PUTTING MAIL OUTSIDE I WAS A BIT TO FAR FROM BOX SO I PUT IT IN PARK, OPENED DOOR JUMPED OFF AND TRUCK JUMPED INTO REVERSE LUCKILY I'M A SMALL PERSON AND WAS ABLE TO JUMP IN AND STEP BRAKE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT THREE TIMES. THE PARK DOES NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY BECAUSE AT HEB I PUT IT IN PARK TURN OFF TRUCK WENT IN STORE CAME BACK TO TURN ON TRUCK. IT WOULDN'T START AND IT WAS IN PARK. I HAD TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL TO START IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE RAM 2500 MEGACAB 4X4. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ECM MODULE AND TIPM FAILED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ECM WOULD BE REPLACED UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY HOWEVER THE TIPM WOULD BE REPAIRED AT THE CONTACTS EXPENSE. WHEN SHIFTING MY TRUCK INTO PARK IT HANGS UP AND THE INDICATOR EITHER READS PARK OR NOTHING BUT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START DUE TO STILL BEING ENGAGED IN GEAR. I T IS ALSO DIFFICULT TO GET OUT OF PARK WHEN IT DOES GO IN. I SPOKE TO MY DEALER ABOUT IT AND HE SAID IT WAS COMMON AND A VALVE IN THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACED SINCE MY WARRANTY WAS OUT DUE TO MILEAGE IT WOULD RUN AROUND $600. I DID NOT SEE IT AS THAT BIG OF A PROBLEM SO I DID NOT HAVE IT REPAIRED. I LEFT MY TRUCK RUNNING AT A GAS STATION ONE MORNING WHICH I RARELY DO AND WHILE I WAS INSIDE PAYING FOR A CUP OF COFFEE MY TRUCK TOOK OFF IN REVERSE AND CRASHED INTO A UTILITY POLL. US 287 WAS RIGHT BEHIND THE POLL WITH VERY BUSY TRAFFIC. ALSO THE FUEL PUMPS WERE ON THE OTHER SIDE. I KNOW SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME MODEL TRUCK AND THE SAME STICKY VALVE. I WILL NEVER LEAVE MY TRUCK IDLING OR WITHOUT THE BRAKE SET. WHAT IF IT WAS IN MY DRIVE WITH MY KIDS PLAYING BEHIND ME. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE RAM 2500 QUAD ST/SLT. HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN DECEMBER OF 2006. DURING A ROUTINE WHEEL ALIGNMENT APPOINTMENT, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT COMPLETE THE ALIGNMENT SINCE THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WERE DEFECTIVE. IN JUNE OF 2009, HE HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL. THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE RIGHT AND LEFT WHEEL BEARING AND AXLE JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST WAS $1,100. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED WITH AFTER MARKET WHEEL BEARINGS AND A DRIVE AXLE U JOINT. THE MANUFACTURER WILL BE NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED IDENTICAL FAILURE WITH A 2003 DODGE RAM 2500 QUAD ST/SLT WHICH HE THOUGHT WAS DUE TO THE TIRES. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 56,000.

IN ORDER TO REVERSE THIS FAILURE, THE VEHICLE MUST BE PLACED IN NEUTRAL FOR 2- 3 MINUTES BEFORE SHIFTING INTO REVERSE. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WERE NO WARNINGS OR DIRECTION IN TRACTION. 2006 DODGE RAM 2500 PICKUP HAS A SO CALLED "SAFETY" FEATURE WHERE IS THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED IN PARK WHEN THE DOOR IS OPEN THE HORN STARTS HONKING NON-STOP UNTIL EITHER THE DOOR IS CLOSED OF THE TRANSMISSION IS FULLY ENGAGED IN PARK. THIS FIX IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE TO PEOPLE WHO PULL TRAILERS AND NEED TO OPEN THE DOOR WHILE IN REVERSE TO SEE WHERE THEY ARE GOING. TO ME DODGE HAS ONLY MASKED THE PROBLEM BY NOT FIXING THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT MECHANISM. I WOULD THINK THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL TO INSTALL A PROPER TRANSMISSION SHIFT MECHANISM AND REMOVE THE HORN HONK FEATURE. THE VEHICLE COULD STILL ROLL BACKWARDS JUST WITH THE HORN BLOWING! 2006 DODGE RAM TRUCK WITH A LONG LIST OF PROBLEMS**CC THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE SUCH AS IGNITION SWITCH MALFUNCTIONS, THE IGNITION WOULD NOT LOCK, SHIFT LEVER, EXHAUST SMOKES EXCESSIVELY, THE ENGINE SHUTTERS AND SHUTDOWN, TRANSMISSION SHIFTING IMPROPERLY PRIMARILY IN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR, THERE WERE TIMES WHEN THE CONSUMER COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK. THE HEAD LIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS COME ON AND GO OFF, THE ELECTRIC LOCKS MALFUNCTIONED, VARIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE CAB LIGHTS, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED. *JB

I STOPPED BY THE HOUSE TO PICK UP AN UMBRELLA AND A FEW OTHER PERSONAL ITEMS BEFORE GOING TO MEET MY RETURNING HUSBAND FROM IRAQ. I PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY UP TO THE GARAGE AND LEFT OUR 2005 DODGE PICKUP RUNNING IN PARK. I RAN INSIDE THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR AND WAS INSIDE APPROXIMATELY 4-5 MINUTES. THE VEHICLE JUMPED FROM PARK, SKIPPED REVERSE AND NEUTRAL AND WENT INTO DRIVE ALL BY ITSELF. IT RAN IN TO OUR KITCHEN WALL AND DID A LARGE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE. BOTH THE HOME AND THE VEHICLE WERE DAMAGED. *JB

FOR EXAMPLE, THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS OFTEN INDICATE REVERSE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ACTUALLY IN PARK AND INDICATES DRIVE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN NEUTRAL. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER FALSE READINGS, ALTHOUGH THESE OCCUR WITH THE MOST FREQUENCY. WHILE TOWING OUR TRAVEL TRAILER, MY WIFE PLACED THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE, ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AND THE VEHICLE AND TRAVEL TRAILER INSTEAD ROLLED BACKWARDS BECAUSE THE TRUCK WAS ACTUALLY IN NEUTRAL ALTHOUGH THE DASHBOARD INDICATED DRIVE. SUBSEQUENT JOSTLING OF THE SHIFTER CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ENGAGE DRIVE. I WILL FORWARD AN EXAMPLE VIDEO TO THE ODI OFFICE.
