The truck is currently at a service station as it developed a "death wobble" while driving down the freeway a shimmed so hard I couldn't control it but managed to get it to the side of the road and finally to a stop. I did not receive any type of warning. I am being told by the mechanic at the service station it is going to require a rebuild of the front suspension. After checking to see if this has been a recall issue, I found there had been 3 but I did not receive notification of this particular recall. Not sure if the age of the truck prevents me from going back to have Dodge resolve this issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH and hauling a travel trailer, the vehicle wobbled, and the contact lost control of the vehicle when the front driver's and passenger's tires went in different directions. The contact was able to pull over and park the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with fractured linkages and damaged strut rods. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the independent mechanic. Prior to the failure, the independent mechanic had replaced the stabilizer bar, tie rod end, steering ball joints, and linkages. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.

While driving at highway speed in my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 truck, the truck's front wheels began to violently shake and wobble with incredible vibration and bumpy ride. I thought I would lose control of the vehicle. I slowed, turned on my emergency flashers and hit the brakes pulling off the interstate. After a few minutes I continued on only to have the same incident described happen again a few miles later. I contacted the local Chrysler dealership and made an appointment, detailing the incident. I was told my truck was not covered by a safety campaign.

DRAG LINK BROKE CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING. THIS WAS A DURALAST DRAG LINK P/N DS1463 PURCHASED FROM AUTOZONE IN 2018 TO REPLACE A BENT OEM PART. FAILURE OCCURRED AT 35MPH ON A DIRT ROAD AND I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY STOP. DRAG LINK BROKE AT UPPER END NEAR STEERING BOX AT THE MACHINED SHOULDER WHERE THE THREADS END. BEACH MARKS AND A DARK AREA INDICATE EXISTING CRACK AT THIS LOCATION FOR SOME TIME PRIOR TO FAILURE, HOWEVER THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF IMPENDING FAILURE PRIOR TO EVENT. TRUCK HAS EXPERIENCED RECENT PROBLEM WITH DEATH WOBBLE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS WHICH WAS CORRECTED BY TIRE CHANGE AND NEW SHOCK ABSORBERS.

HISSING NOISE WHEN STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED. READING INFO ON THE WEB IT STATES THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THE HYDRO-BOOST HOSE. I HAVE PROVIDED THE TECH BULLETIN. ALOT OF TRUCKS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. CASE NUMBER: S1119000007 RELEASE DATE: 09/17/2011 SYMPTOM/VEHICLE ISSUE: POWER STEERING HONK OR HISS MAY BE HEARD DURING BRAKE APPLICATIONS. DIAGNOSIS: CUSTOMERS MAY COMPLAIN OF A NOISE (HONK - SOMETIMES COUPLED WITH A HISS DURING BRAKE APPLICATIONS) DURING LOW SPEED PARKING LOT MANEUVERS. IF YOU HAVE THIS COMPLAINT, PLEASE PERFORM THE FOLLOWING: REPAIR PROCEDURE: 1. INSPECT THE STEERING COLUMN INTERMEDIATE SHAFT BOOT IS IN POSITION AND NOT MAKING NOISE FROM RUBBING ON THE SHAFT. EXPERIENCING WHAT PEOPLE CALL DEATH WOBBLE. 18 MONTHS AGO HIT A BUMP ON THE HIGHWAY AND FRONT END SHOOK VERY HARD, I THOUGHT I HAD A FLAT TIRE. NOTHING FOUND AND DIDN'T DO IT FOR ABOUT A YEAR. THIS SUMMER IT STARTED DOING IT AND BECAME A REGULAR OCCURRENCE. STARTS WHEN HITTING A BUMP ABOVE 60 MPH. ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO SLOW DOWN TO BELOW 30 MPH...VERY SCARY IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. ONCE HAD A TRACTOR TRAILER VEER OFF THE ROAD BEHIND ME. HAD 2 SHOPS LOOK AT IT AND CAN'T FIND ANYTHING OBVIOUS. REPLACED TRACK BAR, WHEEL BEARING, STABILIZER SHOCK, REGULAR SHOCKS, STEERING GEAR AND HAD FRONT END REALIGNED. NOTHING IS FIXING IT. VEHICLE IS STOCK HEIGHT...NO MODIFICATIONS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SHERWOOD AUTOMOTIVE (1915 N SALISBURY BLVD, SALISBURY, MD 21801, (410) 548-4600) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIE ROD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIE ROD WAS LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 190,000.

THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE FAILURE WAS RELATED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 13V528000 (STEERING) AND 09E001000 (STEERING) WHICH HAD NOT BEEN REMEDIED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. APPROXIMATE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE WAS 164,000.

FRONT DRIVERS SIDE FRAME IS CRACKED ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE FRAME BEGINNING AT THE TRAC BAR BRACKET. THIS MAKES STEERING EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE STEERING HARDWARE BINDS. THERE WAS A RECALL (RCRIT-15V541-5721) FOR TRAC BAR BRACKET WELD FAILURES FOR VEHICLES FROM 2012 THROUGH 2014. I BELIEVE THIS IS A RELATED ISSUE THAT SERIOUSLY AFFECTS SAFETY. I'VE ATTACHED FIVE PICTURES.

TRUCK CONTINUES TO EXPERIENCE A "DEATH WOBBLE" ISSUE EVEN AFTER REPLACING MOST OF THE SUSPENSION & STEERING PARTS AND EVEN ADDING AFTERMARKET "STIFFNER" AND "PROBLEM SOLVER" COMPONENTS TO THE VEHICLE. CHRYSLER HAD A RECALL R16 WHICH COVERED NEWER VEHICLES BUT SHOULD HAVE BEEN APPLIED TO THESE OLDER MODELS AS WELL. THE STEERING COMPONENTS AND GEOMETRY WERE LARGELY THE SAME AND THERE IS A FUNDAMENTAL DESIGN FLAW WITH THE GEOMETRY OF THE SUSPENSION. SYMPTOM: BETWEEN THE SPEEDS OF 45 & 70MPH, HITTING A LARGE POTHOLE OR A BRIDGE SEAM THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY DEVELOP A VIOLENT SHAKING IN THE FRONT END. THIS HAS CAUSED ME TO ALMOST CRASH A NUMBER OF TIMES SINCE I LAST FILED A COMPLAINT ON THIS SAME VEHICLE A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO. IT IS DIFFICULT TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND WHEN IT OCCURS IT OCCURS RAPIDLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE WHEN IT OCCURS AND APPLYING THE BRAKES TO SIGNIFICANTLY AND QUICKLY REDUCE THE VEHICLES SPEED IS THE ONLY WAY TO HALT THE VIBRATION. I HAVE ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS TRYING TO QUICKLY STOP THE VEHICLE OR TO KEEP IT FROM ENTERING OTHER LANES DURING THE VIBRATION. THE GEOMETRY ISSUE IS THAT THE VEHICLE CREATES A "TOED OUT" CONDITION WHEN THE SUSPENSION SUDDENLY COLLAPSES FROM A BUMP. AS THE VEHICLE SUSPENSION RETURNS TO THE NORMAL STATE IT ALSO RETURNS BACK TO THE "ALIGNED" POSITION BUT ENERGY BUILT UP AND STORED IN THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STEERING COMPONENTS (STEEL STEERING BARS & ANY MOVEMENT IN THE TIE RODS) ACT LIKE A SPRING CAUSING THE ALIGNMENT TO GO PAST THE "TOED IN" POSITION WHICH THEN REPEATS ITSELF IN REVERSE. THE RESULT IS A CONTINUAL VIBRATION OF THE FRONT END UNTIL THE DRIVING CONDITIONS CHANGE (I.E. MASHING ON THE BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE). GOOGLE "DODGE RAM DEATH WOBBLE" AND YOU WILL SEE NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE.

THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES. I HAVE WENT AS FAR AS TO HAVING THE TORQUE CONVERTOR REPLACED WITH NO LUCK. IT DOES THIS TO ME AT THE SPEED OS 65 TO 75 MPH.I HAVE BEEN READING AND LEARNED ITS REFERERD AS THE DEATH WOBBLE AND IS CAUSED BY FAULTY SUSPENSION AND STEERING COMPONENTS.

MULTIPLE REPAIRS TO THE FRONT END SUSPENSION OF THE VEHICLE, TO THE POINT THAT WE ARE NOW PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS AND THE DEALERSHIP DENYING THEY REPLACED THE MOST RECENT TRACK BAR ON THE TRUCK AND BLAME THE TIRES ON THE TRUCK. I AM REALLY TIRED OF RUNNING OFF INTO A DITCH AFTER HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD OR STEER TO MISS A POTHOLE. JUST FIX THE TRUCK CORRECTLY AND STOP MAKING EXCUSES TELLING US IT IS OUR TIRES WHEN IT IS A 4X4 AND THEY CANNOT PUT MORE STURDY PARTS ON THE FRONT END OR TAKE BLAME FOR THE STEERING SHAFT AND GEAR BOX WHEN THESE HAVE BEEN RECALLED UNDER THE DEATH WOBBLE. HUB ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED ON THIS TRUCK AS WELL. TRYING TO TURN THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING SPOT AND CONSTANTLY HAVING TO BACK INTO A SPACE. THIS DEATH WOBBLE HAS GONE TOO FAR. AS FAR AS THE ELECTRICAL THEY CANNOT FIND WHY THE DASHBOARD KEEPS FLICKERING AND WE KEEP BLOWING FUSES OR BULBS. IT IS REALLY GETTING ANNOYING WITH THIS TRUCK AND ALL THE REPAIRS WHICH WE HAVE HAD TO DO THIS VEHICLE, AND YET TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT.

THIS IS THE 4TH TIME WE HAVE HAD TO GO BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEM TURN US AWAY BY DOING A VISUAL INSPECTION STATING THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK, HOWEVER WE CANNOT GET AN ALIGNMENT BECAUSE SWAY BAR, TRACK BAR, AND TIE RODS ALL NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. TOOK TRUCK BACK AGAIN AFTER THERE WAS SO MUCH POOPING NOISE AND VIBRATION FROM THE FRONT END THAT I COULD NOT TAKE IT ANYMORE. OUTER TIE RODS WERE DONE, AND FOUND OUT THE TRACK BAR WAS CRACKED SO A NEW ONE REPLACED THE ORIGINAL ONE YET NO RECORD WAS COMPLETED OF THIS WITH THE DEALERSHIP, ONLY THAT THEY TIGHTENED THE TRACK BAR. I AM SO FED UP WITH THE DEALERSHIPS AND CHRYSLER WITH ALL OF THIS NONESENSE, IT IS REALLY GOING TO COME DOWN TO US COMPLETELY HAVING A BAD ACCIDENT OR SOMETHING TO THIS EXTENT BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE, AND WE STOP HAVING TO PAY FOR ALL THE REPAIRS TO A FAULTY FRONT END. DRIVING DOWN THE ROD FEELING THE VIBRATIONS IS VERY SCARY, AND NOT KNOWING IF THE TIRES ARE GOING TO COME OFF.

AFTER HITTING A ROAD IMPERFECTION, TRANSITION, OR BUMP WHILE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS (50 TO 70 MPH), THE FRONT END AND STEERING SHAKES VIOLENTLY. THE ONLY SOLUTION TO STOP THE VIOLENT SHAKE IS TO RAPIDLY SLOW MY TRUCK TO 35 MPH OR SLOWER AND HOPEFULLY BE ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. I HAVE NEARLY BEEN IN OR HAVE CAUSED ACCIDENTS ON ABOUT A DOZEN OCCASIONS. I HAVE REPLACED TIRES, SHOCK ABSORBERS, AND THE STEERING BOX AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO WHERE I BELIEVE THE TRUCK IS NOT LONGER SAFE TO OPERATE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. THIS VIOLENT FRONT END / STEERING SHAKE EVENT HAS OCCURRED ON MORE THAN 2 DOZEN OCCASIONS.

I HAVE A 2006 DODGE RAM 2500 THAT HAS A COUPLE ISSUES. THE LATEST IS NO LEFT LOW BEAM. THERE IS NO FUSE TO CHANGE EITHER. FROM MY RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT IT IS THE TIPM THAT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS ALL HAPPENED AFTER PULLING MY TRAILER. DURING THAT TIME, MY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND. ALSO, I HAVE THE NOTORIOUS "DEATH WOBBLE." I HAVE SPENT OVER $4,000 ON STEERING COMPONENT REPAIRS, WHICH INCLUDE 3 GEAR BOXES AND 2 POWER STEERING PUMPS IN LESS THAN TWO YEARS, TIRE RODS, PITMAN ARM, ETC. I AM TAKING MY TRUCK BACK TO THE SHOP TOMORROW TO HAVE MY UJOINTS REPLACED, ALL NEW SHOCKS, AND THE ABS/BRAKE SENSOR REPLACED FOR $1,100. I GUESS MY NEXT REPAIR WILL BE THE TIPM TO FIX THE HEADLIGHT ISSUE AT WHAT I GATHER TO BE AROUND THE $1,000 MARK. WHEN WILL DODGE FIX THESE ISSUES? THE "DEATH WOBBLE" AND TIPM SEEM TO BE THE MOST COMMON COMPLAINT.

AFTER BEING INSPECTED AT DEALERSHIP FOR PRIOR TIE ROD AND STEERING LINK RECALLS, MY RAM 2500 AT ABOUT THE 125K MILEAGE POINT BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE THE NOW WELL DOCUMENTED "DODGE DEATH RATTLLE", WHERE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE FRONT END WOULD VIOLENTLY SHIMMY. SOON THEREAFTER MY TIE ROD DID FRACTURE, CAUSING ME TO LOSE STEERING ABILITY ON A 40MPH ROADWAY, WHERE I NARROWLY AVOIDED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I HAD IT REPAIRED AT MY LOCAL SHOP AND IT WENT ANOTHER 10K BEFORE THE DODGE DEATH RATTLE REAPPEARED AGAIN, AND DESPITE NUMEROUS CHECKS ON ALIGNMENT, SHOCKS, FRONT END, THERE DID NOT SEEM TO BE AN ANSWER. THERE ALWAYS REMAINED A SHIMMY ON BUMPS ON THE HIGHWAY, AND I ONLY DROVE THIS TRUCK ON LOCAL ROADS THEREAFTER. TONIGHT BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, THE STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY JUST FRACTURED AND I AGAIN LOST STEERING ABILITY COMPLETELY. THIS SAME RECALL WAS FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER RECALL BY DODGE ON THIS COMPONENT (H46 WAS FIRST, THEN N62) IT IS MY BELIEF THIS DEFECTIVE COMPONENTRY CAUSING THE "DEATH RATTLE" ALSO PUT SO MUCH STRESS ON THE REST OF THE FRONT END THAT THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. AS I EXPLORE ON THE INTERNET IT IS QUITE OBVIOUS THAT DODGE WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, AND DID NOTHING ABOUT IT FOR MY VEHICLE. I ALMOST DIED THE FIRST TIME, THANKFULLY THE SECOND TIME I WAS NOT EVEN ON THE ROAD YET ! I SPOKE WITH DODGE TONIGHT AND WAS TOLD THAT I COULD BRING IT TO A DEALER TO INSPECT AND "IF IT IS INDEED DUE TO ANY OF THE RECALLED ITEMS" THEY WOULD GLADLY REPAIR IT FOR ME AND PROVIDE ME A QUOTE. WHAT RECOURSE DO I AS AN OWNER HAVE ? THE LATER RECALLED MODELS ALL HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM, YET MY CAR IS NOT ON THEIR LIST, DO I HAVE TO TAKE THEIR WORD FOR IT THAT IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT ? I WAS CRUISING DOWN A 4 LANE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH AND HIT A MINOR BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY (FELT LIKE A VERTICAL MOTION AND NOT SIDE TO SIDE) I HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND QUICKLY REDUCE SPEED TO KEEP FROM LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. UPON SOME RESEARCH WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS I WOULD BEST DESCRIBE MY EXPERIENCE AS ONE ASSOCIATED WITH THE "DEATH WOBBLE". THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN ONCE WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS AROUND 75 MPH. THE SHAKING WAS VIOLENT ENOUGH THAT IT SHOOK EVERYTHING OFF OF THE SEATS BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO STOP. THE SOURCE OF THE SHAKING I BELIEVE HAS TO DO WITH THE FRONT AXLE. I THOUGHT IT MAY BE A FAULTY TIRE OR UNBALANCED TIRE SO I HAD ALL OF THE TIRES INSPECTED, ROTATED, AND BALANCED. THERE WERE NO ISSUES FOUND WITH THE TIRES.

WHILE TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY AT NORMAL SPEED OF 65 MPH IN THE NUMBER 2 LANE, MY VEHICLE STARTED TO DEVELOP A DANGEROUS STEERING WOBBLE SENSATION. THE WOBBLE WAS SO VIOLENT AND UNCONTROLLABLE THAT I FEARED FOR MY SAFETY. I LET OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND APPLIED THE BRAKES AS MY HANDS WERE BEING ALMOST PULLED OFF OF THE STEERING WHEEL FROM THE FORCE OF THE WHEEL BEING JERKED BACK AND FORTH AGAINST MY WILL. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK BACK UNDER CONTROL ONLY AFTER GETTING THE SPEED DOWN BELOW 40 MPH AND PULLING OVER. THE INCIDENT CAUSED AN AGGRAVATION TO AN EXISTING INJURY TO MY LEFT SHOULDER WHICH CAUSED ME GREAT PAIN FOR UP TO 1 WEEK. I INSPECTED THE VEHICLE THINKING I HAD RUN SOMETHING OVER OR SOMETHING HAD BROKEN FROM MY STEERING SYSTEM. BUT I FOUND NOTHING OUT OF PLACE. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT SET TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER ON FRIDAY JULY 31ST 2015 AT CERRITOS DODGE. THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY TRUCK AND SCARED ME AND MY FAMILY WHILE DRIVING. MY TRUCK HAS ALWAYS MADE A "CLICK" NOISE WHILE TURNING AS WELL WITH NO ONE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE NOISE. I AM GETTING NERVOUS AND SCARED TO DRIVE MY TRUCK AT FREEWAY SPEEDS AT THIS POINT.

I WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE EVEN THOUGH MY TRUCK WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND I WOULD NOTBE ABLE TO HAVE THE PART REPAIRED OR REPLACED. THEY EVEN TRIED TO LOOK FOR A USED PART FROM A SALVAGE YARD. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND WAS GIVEN AN OPTION TO HAVE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR ANOTHER YEAR LONGER FOR FREE IN EXCHANGE. I AM STILL DRIVING MY TRUCK WITH THE DEFECTIVE BEARING AND SHAKY STEERING COLUMN. IT WAS NEVER REPAIRED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO NO PARTS AVAILABLE. THE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY BROKE WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH YOUR DEPARTMENT IN 2013, COMPLAINT #10507531, BECAUSE CHRYSLER STATED THAT OUR MANUFACTURE DATE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE 2006 RECALL. THE RECALL HAS SINCE BEEN EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MY MANUFACTURE DATE. NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT IT IS NOT COVERED BECAUSE THE RECALL IS FOR MOPAR TIE RODS ONLY, AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE IT FAIL 2 TIMES FOR IT TO BE COVERED UNDER RECALL. I AM THE 2ND OWNER OF THE TRUCK AND CANNOT VERIFY HOW MANY TIMES THE TIE RODS MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE FAILED PRIOR TO MY PURCHASE. ALSO, SINCE THE REPAIR WAS DONE PRIOR TO NOTIFICATION OR KNOWLEDGE OF THE RECALL, THE FAILED PART WAS NOT KEPT TO SEE THE MANUFACTURER. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE HIM CHECK TO SEE IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, AFTER INSPECTION HE STATED "YES". HAULING A GOOSE NECK TRAILER EMPTY TO NEW MEXICO, SUDDENLY THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY IN THE FAMOUS "DEATH WOBBLE" OF THESE VEHICLES. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND THE WHOLE FRONT END NEED TO BE "UPDATED" TO THE BIGGER BEEFIER SUSPENSION. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN ENOUGH THAT CHRYSLER HAS CREATED A WHOLE KIT FOR DOING THIS UPGRADE. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT CONSIDER IN NEED OF THE RECALL REPLACEMENT JUST FOUR WEEKS PRIOR. THE AGENT CALLED SEVERAL CITIES ALONG MY PLANNED TRAVEL AND EACH DODGE DEALER HAD THE VERY SAME SITUATION - 50 OR MORE VEHICLES ON THE WAITING LIST, WITH AN EXPECTED DELIVERY OF ONLY ONE KIT PER WEEK FROM CHRYSLER. I WAS TOLD THE REPAIRS WOULD COST $1,689.00 AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THIS AMOUNT AND THEN CONTEST CHRYSLER FOR REIMBURSEMENT. I WAS TRAVELING HIGHWAY I-95 NEAR JAX , FL. WHILE CROSSING AN OVERPASS EXPANSION JOINT BETWEEN BRIDGE AND PAVEMENT THE FRONT END OF MY TRUCK BEGAN VIOLENTLY SHAKING - SO BAD I COULD BARELY KEEP CONTROL. I SLOWED AS FAST AS POSSIBLE AND HEADED FOR THE MEDIAN OUT OF THE WAY FROM TRAFFIC FOLLOWING. TRUCK COMPLETED AN ENTIRE "DONUT " IN MEDIAN CAUSING ALL TRAFFIC TO STOP. I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT A BLOWN TIRE. I HAD PREVIOUSLY REPLACED TIRES, SHOCKS AND FRESH ALIGNMENT LESS THAN 500 MILES PRIOR TO INCIDENT. I CALLED DODGE CARE AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON STEERING LINKAGE. I TOOK TRUCK TO GATOR DODGE IN MELBOURNE FLORIDA FOR THE RECALL. SERVICE MANAGER MIKE SAID THE TRUCK DIDN'T APPLY TO RECALL. HE BLAMED THE VIOLENT "DEATH WOBBLE" ON MY BRAND NEW TIRES AND NON MOPAR SHOCKS. SHOCKS ARE AFTERMARKET DIRECT FIT FOR MY TRUCK FROM MONROE. HE ALSO SAID THAT I NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT AND TIRES REBALANCED. I DID WHAT HE ASKED AND BROUGHT TRUCK BACK TO GATOR DODGE FOR A NEW DIAGNOSIS. HE THEN BLAMED THE VIOLENT SHAKING ON " GLAZED ROTORS". ODDLY THE PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN BRAKING. HE THEN TALKED WITH HIS SERVICE MANAGER AND REPLACED THE PITTMAN ARM, STABILIZER SHOCK AND SOME KIND OF CONTROL ARM WITH NEW ADJUSTMENT CLAMPS FOR FREE. DID NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE TRUCK STILL MAKES "CLUNKING NOISES " FROM SOMEWHERE BEHIND FIREWALL WHEN JUST CROSSING OVER THE WHITE STOP LINES ON THE ROAD OR EVEN MY GARDEN HOSE IN THE DRIVEWAY. DEATH WOBBLE CAN BE DUPLICATED AT HIGH SPEEDS BUT HE REFUSED TO DRIVE TO HIGHWAY TO SHOW HIM THE PROBLEM. ON THE 13TH OF APRIL AFTER EXPERIENCING THE WOBBLE, I CRAWLED UNDERNEATH MY TRUCK AND FOUND NO SUCH EVIDENCE OF ANYTHING; AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER AND CRAWLING UNDER TRUCK, I NOTICED WHERE THERE IS LEAKAGE AT THE STEERING GEAR BOX NOW. AFTER SEARCHING NET FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS I BEGAN TO SEE ALL ISSUES WITH THESE RELATED PARTS. DODGE SHOULD REALLY LOOK AT THIS ENTIRE SYSTEM AS THEY COULD BE TIED TOGETHER. I WAS TURNING MY DODGE RAM IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE STEERING FAILED. THE TIE ROD END SEPARATED AND FAILED CAUSING THE STEERING TO FAIL. IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAVELING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OF THE TRUCKS STEERING. DODGE WOULD NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH OUT CHARGING ME FOR THE REPAIR AND DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE THAT PEOPLE COULD BE GETTING KILLED FROM THE DEFECTIVE PARTS IN THEIR TRUCKS. I CALLED TWO DEALERS AND THE CHRYSLER CARE LINE BUT ONLY GOT THE RUN AROUND. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO MAKE NOTE THAT THERE ARE MANY OF THESE FAILURES OCCURRING WHEN I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH I FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ON MESSAGE BOARDS OF DODGE TRUCK STEERING FAILURES. FIRST- IN JUNE 2010, THE DRIVER SIDE TIE ROD END SHAFT, WHICH GOES INTO THE FEMALE PORTION ON THE WHEEL, SHEARED OFF CATASTROPHICALLY. THIS OCCURRED WHILE BACKING UP AND ALIGNING THE TRUCK TO HOOK UP A UTILITY TRAILER. THE TRUCK HAD APPROXIMATELY 42000 MILES. THE DODGE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ENTIRE TIE ROD , INCLUDING ALL TIE ROD ENDS, AND SHOCK ABSORBER ON THE TIE ROD. SECOND- ON MAY 13TH 2011, THE NEW TIE ROD FAILED IN SAME LOCATION, IN NEARLY THE SAME SCENARIO. WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, A LOUD SNAP WAS HEARD, FOLLOWED BY THE TIE ROD CONTACTING THE TIRE, CAUSING IT TO BLOW OUT, ALLOWING THE TRUCK TO DROP, INCLUDING TRAPPING THE TIE ROD BENEATH THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL. IN BOTH CASES THE MALE OUTER DRIVER'S SIDE TIE ROD END VERTICAL SHAFT SHEARED OFF FLUSH WITH THE TIE ROD. IN BOTH CASES THE TRUCK WAS NOT CARRYING ANY LOAD. THE TRUCK IS USED TO TOW A 5TH WHEELER SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR (5-6 X). THE 5TH WHEELER IS 10300# UNLOADED AND APPROX 12300# FULLY LOADED. IN NEITHER CASE WAS ANY SYMPTOM NOTED LEADING UP TO THIS EVENT.

THIS CONDITION CAUSES AN UNCONTROLLED STATE OF VEHICLE OPERATION AND IS VERY UN-SAFE. I HAVE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY REPLACING POORLY DESIGNED FRONT END COMPONENTS OF THIS TRUCK AND THERE ARE STILL MORE THAT NEED REPLACEMENT. IT HAS BAD TRACK BAR BUSHINGS, BAD TIE ROD ENDS, BAD BALL JOINTS, AND HAD A BAD STEERING BOX REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. DODGE IS AWARE OF THESE PROBLEMS AND IS TURNING THEIR BACK ON IT BY NOT ISSUING A RECALL. THEY HAVE ALREADY CHANGED THE DESIGNS AND UPDATED THE STEERING LINKAGES ON 2008 AND NEWER DODGE TRUCKS. ALL OF THE COMPONENTS ON THE FRONT END THAT ARE SUBJECT TO WEAR ARE SEVERELY WORN AND ONLY TWO TIE ROD ENDS HAVE GREASE FITTINGS. THESE HAPPEN TO BE THE ONLY TWO PARTS NOT WORN OUT. I FEEL NOT HAVING SERVICEABLE GREASE POINTS ON THE PARTS IS CAUSING THIS PREMATURE WEAR ALONG WITH THE USE OF SUB-STANDARD PARTS, WHICH ARE NOT DESIGNED TO BE USED WITH A HEAVY DUTY DIESEL PICK UP TRUCKS WEIGHT. WE CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY HAVE REFUSED TO CALL ME BACK, BUT THEY HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP TO INFORM THEM THAT ALL THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND THAT THEY WOULD ONLY COVER $500 WORTH OF PARTS. NOW IF THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, WHY WASN'T I AS A CUSTOMER EVER NOTIFIED AT ANY TIME I BROUGHT MY TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE AT ANY OF THEIR DEALERSHIPS OF THIS ISSUE SO IT COULD BE CHECKED? TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE RAM 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING ON A DIRT ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE TIE ROD FAILED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO A DITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. DROVE TRUCK HOME AND THE FRONT END WAS SHAKING THE WHOLE WAY. SO I BOUGHT BRAND NEW E RATED TIRES AND PUT ALL NEW EXPENSIVE AFTER MARKET SHOCKS ON THE TRUCK MYSELF. SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT WAS ACHIEVED BY THESE UPGRADES. ALSO TOOK TO ANOTHER DODGE DEALER AFTER THESE MODIFICATIONS FOR A SECOND OPINION. THEY WOULDN'T REPLACE ANYTHING BUT SAID THEY TIGHTENED A FEW THINGS IN THE FRONT END. THEY THEN SAID THAT IT WAS PROBABLY THE RIMS ON MY TRUCK. SO I PURCHASED BRAND NEW RIMS AND TOOK THE 2" LEVELERS OFF. TRUCK STILL SHAKES AT AROUND 55-60 MPH AND IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. BOTTOM LINE IS THAT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO BUY A HEAVY DUTY TRUCK AND TAKE MY FAMILY ON OUTINGS WITHOUT THE CHANCE OF CRASHING BECAUSE OF A DEFECT THAT DODGE COULD FIX. I JUST TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR INSPECTION AND THIS JOINT ON THE PITMAN ARM FAILED FOR TOO MUCH PLAY. WE CALLED TO GET THE REPLACEMENT PART AND WERE TOLD IT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE BECAUSE THE PART HAS BEEN REDESIGNED. YOU NOW HAVE TO REPLACE MULTIPLE COMPONENTS BECAUSE OF THIS REDESIGN WHICH WAS INITIATED FROM THE RECALL FOR 2008 TRUCKS AND IT WILL COST YOU APPROXIMATELY $550 FOR THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. IT WILL COST YOU THIS JUST FOR PARTS, IF YOU TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY. MY TRUCK HAS 50,170 MILES ON IT WHICH IS OVER THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. HOWEVER, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY $600+ BECAUSE ONE JOINT IS BAD. IF THESE PARTS WERE REDESIGNED FOR SAFETY REASONS THEN THIS SHOULD BE COVERED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE CONFIRMED WITH AREA DEALERS AND ALL 2500 SERIES DODGE RAMS USE THIS RECALLED LINKAGE FROM 2003-2008. THEY ALL CALL FOR THE SAME PART NUMBER. ALSO, THIS WAS NOT A PROBLEM WITH JUST A CERTAIN 'BATCH' OF PARTS. IF SO, CHRYSLER WOULD HAVE ONLY RECALLED THE TRUCK WITH THE BAD COMPONENTS AND REPLACED THEM WITH NEW COMPONENTS OF THE SAME DESIGN. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY TOLD ME AN AUTHORIZED DODGE DEALER MUST SAY THIS JOINT IS BAD SO I HAVE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT LATER THIS WEEK TO HAVE THIS LOOKED AT. I AM ASSUMING THEY WILL PASS IT AND SAY THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM SO THEY WILL NOT HAVE TO REPLACE IT. MY 2006 DODGE RAM 2500 HAD BAD TIE RODS, TRACK BAR AND STEERING DAMPER WITH LESS THAN 36000 MILES ON IT. AT THE POINT IT BECAME APPARENT, THE TRUCK BECAME VERY UNSTABLE AND HARD TO KEEP ON THE ROAD. I TOOK IT TO MODICA BROTHERS IN MY TOWN TO HAVE IT FIXED BECAUSE ANY DEALERSHIPS WERE AT LEAST AN HOUR FROM ME AND I FELT I NEEDED MY VEHICLE FIXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. AFTER GETTING THE TRUCK REPAIRED IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE TRUCK WAS STILL COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE CONTACTED DODGE CONCERNING THIS AND WAS DENIED COVERAGE BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED AND GO TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE TRUCK REPAIRED. *TR

I OWN A 2006 DODGE 1 TON CREW CAB TRUCK. DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE WHEEL BOUNCING WHEN A HIT A BUMP AT SPEEDS OVER 60 MILES PER HOUR. I CONTACT THE LOCAL DODGE DEALER, THEY LOOK AT IT AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. ON DECEMBER 20, 2006 I HIT A BUMP ON THE INTERSTATE AT NEARLY 70 MILES PER HOUR THAT PUT MY TRUCK INTO AN UNCONTROLLABLE SHAKE, NEARLY HIT THE CAR NEXT TO ME AND SLIDE SIDEWAYS TO A STOP. VERY LUCKY THAT OTHERS WERE NOT HIT OR THAT I DID NOT ROLL. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO SPRINGFIELD, MO AND TOOK IT TO CENTRAL DODGE. THEY IMMEDIATELY SAID IT WAS THE FRONT STEERING STABILIZER SHOCK AND THAT THEY HAVE HAD NUMEROUS OTHER INCIDENTS INVOLVING THIS PART WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE TRUCK. THEY CHANGE THE PART AND THE PROBLEM IS FIXED, BUT SOMETHING WAS TROUBLING AS THE TECH SAID HE WOULD REPLACE IT WITH SOMETHING STIFFER AND STRONGER AS THEY CAN ONLY REPLACE IT WITH A FACTORY PART THAT HE SAID HAS BEEN A PROBLEM AND IS NOT BIG ENOUGH. *NM
