Truck does not want to stay in the road. It hops to the right with the steering not being turned. Cannot tell when it is going to do it.
This happened on my 2006 Dodge 2500 truck. I have had this truck since brand new and have maintained vigorously. Fortunately I was only going 25mph on the back road from my house. If this had happened on the highway I may not be here to tell this story. I felt like I had a flat tire so i stopped and didn't see anything so I started again and drove about a foot and then heard this loud crunching sound. I got out to find the center of my wheel had separated for the inside of the wheel. When I bought the truck I got the premium wheel package. The chrome covers are made on the wheel. I think what happened is because the chrome covers are made on the wheel there is no way to see that the wheel is rusting from the inside out and the owner has no idea they are driving a time bomb waiting to happen. My truck is almost rust free. I always took care to wash the salt off it in the winter 3 or 4 times a week. The truck has spent the last 10 years in Florida. I have never in my life ever seen this happen. I have no idea where the hub cap or the chrome cover went.

We were driving down the highway and it started doing the death wobble.
The truck is currently at a service station as it developed a "death wobble" while driving down the freeway a shimmed so hard I couldn't control it but managed to get it to the side of the road and finally to a stop. I did not receive any type of warning. I am being told by the mechanic at the service station it is going to require a rebuild of the front suspension. After checking to see if this has been a recall issue, I found there had been 3 but I did not receive notification of this particular recall. Not sure if the age of the truck prevents me from going back to have Dodge resolve this issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
While driving at highway speed in my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 truck, the truck's front wheels began to violently shake and wobble with incredible vibration and bumpy ride. I thought I would lose control of the vehicle. I slowed, turned on my emergency flashers and hit the brakes pulling off the interstate. After a few minutes I continued on only to have the same incident described happen again a few miles later. I contacted the local Chrysler dealership and made an appointment, detailing the incident. I was told my truck was not covered by a safety campaign.
MY VEHICLE HAS GONE INTO WHAT IS DESCRIBED AS A "DEATH WOBBLE" ON FOUR DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, WHILE MOVING. TWICE ON THE FREEWAY, ONCE COMING DOWN-HILL ON A MOUNTAIN ROAD AND THE LAST ON A TWO LANE ROAD. WE HAVE VERBALLY COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER TO NO AVAIL. THESE INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND ON ONE WE HAD AN UNGUARDED CLIFF ON ONE SIDE.

THE TUCK HAD 95,000 MILES ON IT THE FIRST TIME ON I-40 FROM CAL TO AZ, THE LAST REPORT OF THE WOBBLE WAS SEP-10-17, NOW WITH ABOUT 102,500 MIL ,MY SON WHO IS 40 , WAS ON HIS WAY HOME ON HWY-93 WHEN MY RAM 2500 STARTED TO WOBBLE ON HIM, EVEN WHEN HE SWITCHED LANES ,THE HOLE WHERE THE HIGHWAY REFLECTOR IS PLACED IN MADE IT START TO SHAKE !

THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES. I HAVE WENT AS FAR AS TO HAVING THE TORQUE CONVERTOR REPLACED WITH NO LUCK. IT DOES THIS TO ME AT THE SPEED OS 65 TO 75 MPH.I HAVE BEEN READING AND LEARNED ITS REFERERD AS THE DEATH WOBBLE AND IS CAUSED BY FAULTY SUSPENSION AND STEERING COMPONENTS.

MULTIPLE REPAIRS TO THE FRONT END SUSPENSION OF THE VEHICLE, TO THE POINT THAT WE ARE NOW PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS AND THE DEALERSHIP DENYING THEY REPLACED THE MOST RECENT TRACK BAR ON THE TRUCK AND BLAME THE TIRES ON THE TRUCK. I AM REALLY TIRED OF RUNNING OFF INTO A DITCH AFTER HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD OR STEER TO MISS A POTHOLE. JUST FIX THE TRUCK CORRECTLY AND STOP MAKING EXCUSES TELLING US IT IS OUR TIRES WHEN IT IS A 4X4 AND THEY CANNOT PUT MORE STURDY PARTS ON THE FRONT END OR TAKE BLAME FOR THE STEERING SHAFT AND GEAR BOX WHEN THESE HAVE BEEN RECALLED UNDER THE DEATH WOBBLE. HUB ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED ON THIS TRUCK AS WELL. TRYING TO TURN THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING SPOT AND CONSTANTLY HAVING TO BACK INTO A SPACE. THIS DEATH WOBBLE HAS GONE TOO FAR. AS FAR AS THE ELECTRICAL THEY CANNOT FIND WHY THE DASHBOARD KEEPS FLICKERING AND WE KEEP BLOWING FUSES OR BULBS. IT IS REALLY GETTING ANNOYING WITH THIS TRUCK AND ALL THE REPAIRS WHICH WE HAVE HAD TO DO THIS VEHICLE, AND YET TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT.

THIS IS THE 4TH TIME WE HAVE HAD TO GO BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEM TURN US AWAY BY DOING A VISUAL INSPECTION STATING THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK, HOWEVER WE CANNOT GET AN ALIGNMENT BECAUSE SWAY BAR, TRACK BAR, AND TIE RODS ALL NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. TOOK TRUCK BACK AGAIN AFTER THERE WAS SO MUCH POOPING NOISE AND VIBRATION FROM THE FRONT END THAT I COULD NOT TAKE IT ANYMORE. OUTER TIE RODS WERE DONE, AND FOUND OUT THE TRACK BAR WAS CRACKED SO A NEW ONE REPLACED THE ORIGINAL ONE YET NO RECORD WAS COMPLETED OF THIS WITH THE DEALERSHIP, ONLY THAT THEY TIGHTENED THE TRACK BAR. I AM SO FED UP WITH THE DEALERSHIPS AND CHRYSLER WITH ALL OF THIS NONESENSE, IT IS REALLY GOING TO COME DOWN TO US COMPLETELY HAVING A BAD ACCIDENT OR SOMETHING TO THIS EXTENT BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE, AND WE STOP HAVING TO PAY FOR ALL THE REPAIRS TO A FAULTY FRONT END. DRIVING DOWN THE ROD FEELING THE VIBRATIONS IS VERY SCARY, AND NOT KNOWING IF THE TIRES ARE GOING TO COME OFF.

AFTER HITTING A ROAD IMPERFECTION, TRANSITION, OR BUMP WHILE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS (50 TO 70 MPH), THE FRONT END AND STEERING SHAKES VIOLENTLY. THE ONLY SOLUTION TO STOP THE VIOLENT SHAKE IS TO RAPIDLY SLOW MY TRUCK TO 35 MPH OR SLOWER AND HOPEFULLY BE ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. I HAVE REPLACED TIRES, SHOCK ABSORBERS, AND THE STEERING BOX AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO WHERE I BELIEVE THE TRUCK IS NOT LONGER SAFE TO OPERATE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS AT 102,000 AND SECOND OCCURRENCE WAS AT 141,000. IT IS KNOWN AS THE "DODGE DEATH WOBBLE". THE REPAIR THE FIRST TIME CONSISTED OF REPLACING THE FRONT STEERING COMPONENTS. THE REPAIR WAS DONE BY AN OFF-ROAD SHOP. TOMORROW (6/6/16), THE TRUCK GOES TO THE REPAIR SHOP FOR EVALUATION. THIS TIME WAS SCARY. THE TRUCK SHOOK VIOLENTLY. I HAD TO REDUCE SPEED RAPIDLY AND WAS LUCKY THAT IT WAS THE WEEKEND AND THERE WERE ONLY A FEW VEHICLES BEHIND ME.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 296,670.

THIS HAS CASED NEAR REAR END COLLISIONS WITH PEOPLE FOLLOWING ME. THIS APPEARS TO BE A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM THAT THE AUTO MAKER REFUSES TO SOLVE. I HOPE SOMEONE DOESN'T END UP HURT OR KILLED BECAUSE I LOSE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE.

WE CHECKED WITH THE DODGE DEALER TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS ON ANYTHING SIMILAR AND THEY TOLD US NO. SO WE BEGAN REPLACING TIRES, SHOCKS, STEERING SHAFT AND STEERING BOX, FRONT STABILIZER SHOCK, LEFT FRONT BALL JOINTS AND U JOINT, NEW BRAKES AND ROTORS ALL THE WAY AROUND AND THE ONES WE TOOK OFF WERE STILL VERY NEW LOOKING, SERVICE STATION WANTED TO KNOW IF WE WANTED TO KEEP THEM, WE SAID NO. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS ALMOST IN THE SAME AREA AS 10/25/15 WHILE TRAVELING TO TENNESSEE SO WE DID NOT TRAVEL OVER 60 MPH, THEN AGAIN TRAVELING BACK TO PA, THIS WAS WHEN WE CHANGED OUT THE AFOREMENTIONED PARTS, THE THIRD TIME HAPPENED WHILE OUR SON WAS DRIVING 60 MPH ON ROUTE 33 IN EASTON, PA. I WAS CRUISING DOWN A 4 LANE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH AND HIT A MINOR BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY (FELT LIKE A VERTICAL MOTION AND NOT SIDE TO SIDE) I HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND QUICKLY REDUCE SPEED TO KEEP FROM LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. UPON SOME RESEARCH WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS I WOULD BEST DESCRIBE MY EXPERIENCE AS ONE ASSOCIATED WITH THE "DEATH WOBBLE". THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN ONCE WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS AROUND 75 MPH. THE SHAKING WAS VIOLENT ENOUGH THAT IT SHOOK EVERYTHING OFF OF THE SEATS BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO STOP. THE SOURCE OF THE SHAKING I BELIEVE HAS TO DO WITH THE FRONT AXLE. I THOUGHT IT MAY BE A FAULTY TIRE OR UNBALANCED TIRE SO I HAD ALL OF THE TIRES INSPECTED, ROTATED, AND BALANCED. THERE WERE NO ISSUES FOUND WITH THE TIRES.

AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIE RODS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V528000 (STEERING). HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,000.

I SEVERE STEERING WOBBLE AT HIGHWAY SPEED AFTER HITTING A BUMP/ POTHOLE IN THE ROADWAY. S WOBBLE STOPPED UPON SLOWING. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND THE WHOLE FRONT END NEED TO BE "UPDATED" TO THE BIGGER BEEFIER SUSPENSION. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN ENOUGH THAT CHRYSLER HAS CREATED A WHOLE KIT FOR DOING THIS UPGRADE. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT CONSIDER IN NEED OF THE RECALL REPLACEMENT JUST FOUR WEEKS PRIOR. I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT A BLOWN TIRE. I HAD PREVIOUSLY REPLACED TIRES, SHOCKS AND FRESH ALIGNMENT LESS THAN 500 MILES PRIOR TO INCIDENT. I CALLED DODGE CARE AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON STEERING LINKAGE. I TOOK TRUCK TO GATOR DODGE IN MELBOURNE FLORIDA FOR THE RECALL. SERVICE MANAGER MIKE SAID THE TRUCK DIDN'T APPLY TO RECALL. HE BLAMED THE VIOLENT "DEATH WOBBLE" ON MY BRAND NEW TIRES AND NON MOPAR SHOCKS. SHOCKS ARE AFTERMARKET DIRECT FIT FOR MY TRUCK FROM MONROE. HE ALSO SAID THAT I NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT AND TIRES REBALANCED. I DID WHAT HE ASKED AND BROUGHT TRUCK BACK TO GATOR DODGE FOR A NEW DIAGNOSIS. HE THEN BLAMED THE VIOLENT SHAKING ON " GLAZED ROTORS". ODDLY THE PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN BRAKING. HE THEN TALKED WITH HIS SERVICE MANAGER AND REPLACED THE PITTMAN ARM, STABILIZER SHOCK AND SOME KIND OF CONTROL ARM WITH NEW ADJUSTMENT CLAMPS FOR FREE. DID NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE TRUCK STILL MAKES "CLUNKING NOISES " FROM SOMEWHERE BEHIND FIREWALL WHEN JUST CROSSING OVER THE WHITE STOP LINES ON THE ROAD OR EVEN MY GARDEN HOSE IN THE DRIVEWAY. ON THE 13TH OF APRIL AFTER EXPERIENCING THE WOBBLE, I CRAWLED UNDERNEATH MY TRUCK AND FOUND NO SUCH EVIDENCE OF ANYTHING; AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER AND CRAWLING UNDER TRUCK, I NOTICED WHERE THERE IS LEAKAGE AT THE STEERING GEAR BOX NOW. AFTER SEARCHING NET FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS I BEGAN TO SEE ALL ISSUES WITH THESE RELATED PARTS. DODGE SHOULD REALLY LOOK AT THIS ENTIRE SYSTEM AS THEY COULD BE TIED TOGETHER. I HAVE EXPERIENCED WHAT IS REFERRED TO AS "DEATH WOBBLE" WHERE THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK SHAKES AND VIBRATES VIOLENTLY AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS AFTER HITTING BUMPS IN THE ROAD. THIS CONDITION CAUSES AN UNCONTROLLED STATE OF VEHICLE OPERATION AND IS VERY UN-SAFE. I HAVE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY REPLACING POORLY DESIGNED FRONT END COMPONENTS OF THIS TRUCK AND THERE ARE STILL MORE THAT NEED REPLACEMENT. IT HAS BAD TRACK BAR BUSHINGS, BAD TIE ROD ENDS, BAD BALL JOINTS, AND HAD A BAD STEERING BOX REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. DODGE IS AWARE OF THESE PROBLEMS AND IS TURNING THEIR BACK ON IT BY NOT ISSUING A RECALL. THEY HAVE ALREADY CHANGED THE DESIGNS AND UPDATED THE STEERING LINKAGES ON 2008 AND NEWER DODGE TRUCKS. ALL OF THE COMPONENTS ON THE FRONT END THAT ARE SUBJECT TO WEAR ARE SEVERELY WORN AND ONLY TWO TIE ROD ENDS HAVE GREASE FITTINGS. THESE HAPPEN TO BE THE ONLY TWO PARTS NOT WORN OUT.
