WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 90 IN WASHINGTON STATE, TRAVELING AT ABOUT 60 MPH I NOTICED A HAZE BEHIND THE TRUCK THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR MIRROR. AT THE TIME, THERE WERE NO INDICATIONS BY INSTRUMENTS OR WARNING LIGHTS THAT ANYTHING WAS AMISS WITH THE TRUCK. WONDERING IF IT WAS COMING FROM THE TRUCK I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER TO CHECK. AS SOON AS I STOPPED I SMELLED HOT OIL, SO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, RELEASED THE HOOD LATCH AND CHECKED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. UPON LIFTING THE HOOD OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED FLAMES BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND FIRE WALL. I RETRIEVED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER FROM THE CAMPER THE TRUCK WAS HAULING AND ATTEMPTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. TWO MOTORISTS WITH FIRE EXTINGUISHERS STOPPED TO HELP AND THE COMBINED USE OF THREE DRY CHEMICAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS WOULD NOT PUT THE FIRE OUT AND THE TRUCK AND CAMPER COMPLETELY BURNED. WHEN I REPORTED THIS TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY WE DISCOVERED AN ERROR IN THE VIN NUMBER ON MY INSURANCE POLICY. OUT OF CURIOSITY I RESEARCHED THAT VIN NUMBER AND WAS SURPRISED TO SEE THAT SAME STYLE TRUCK HAD ALSO BURNED. IT'S VIN IS 3D7MU48C84G269656 AND CAN BE SEEN IN THE 7TH PHOTO THAT IS UPLOADED TO THIS REPORT. BOTH WERE 2004 DODGE DIESEL TUCKS WITH LOW MILEAGE. IT SEEMS TOO MUCH OF A COINCIDENCE AND I WONDER IF THERE IS A DEFECT THAT CAUSED THIS AND HOW MANY OTHER OF THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL HAVE BEEN DESTROYED BY FIRE.

TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO LOW GEAR AT BUSY INTERSECTION ENTERING FREEWAY. *TR STARTED IN SECOND OR THIRD REQUIRED COSTLY REBUILD. FUEL GAUGE READS EMPTY REQUIRED NEW UNIT IN FUEL TANK.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NAPLES DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP (6381 AIRPORT PULLING RD N, NAPLES, FL 34109) WHERE THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE RECALL HAD BEEN REPAIRED ONCE FOR A COMPUTER UPGRADE. EVEN THOUGH THE RECALL FAILURE RECURRED, THERE WOULD BE AN OUT OF POCKET COST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000.

THE DAM SIGNAL HORN TO ALERT YOU IS TO SLOW TO RESPOND AND FAILS WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT. ALSO I LOST MY SERPENTINE BELT WHICH CAUSED BRAKING AND STEERING DANGEROUSLY DIFFICULT THIS WAS ON A CITY STREET. IT CAUSED ME TO DRIVE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR QUITE A DISTANCE. BOTH OF THESE ISSUES I HAVE COMPLAINED SHORTLY AFTER BUYING NEW. DEALER DENIED PROBLEMS UNTIL RECALLS

I HAVE HAD A VIBRATION AND "DEATH WOBBLE" ON MY TRUCK SINCE I PURCHASED IT. IT HAS BEEN TO TWO DIFFERENT CHRYSLER DEALERS FOR A TOTAL OF 5 OR 6 TIMES WITHOUT RESOLUTION OF THE ISSUE. THE ISSUE IS TWO FOLD, ONE IS WHEN I HIT A LARGE BUMP AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 45 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY, AND THE OTHER THIS SPEEDS OVER 60 MPH THERE IS A VIBRATION. I HAVE SPOKEN TO CHRYSLER ABOUT THE ISSUES ABOUT A YEAR OR SO AGO. THEY TRIED TO OFFER BUY BACK BECAUSE THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE RESOLVED, BUT THEN TOLD ME I WAS NOT QUALIFIED BECAUSE I WAS THE SECOND OWNER. I ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE STEERING GEAR BOX REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, AND THEY REPLACED ALL THE TIE-ROD ENDS ECT. THE ISSUES IS STILL THE SAME WITHOUT RESOLUTION. NOW MY WARRANTY IS UP, AND THE TRUCK STILL HAS THIS POTENTIAL DANGERS ISSUES AND I HAVE NO WHERE TO GO. ANYTIME I HAVE THE TRUCK LOOKED AT NOW IT COST ME A LOT OF MONEY. MY TRUCK HAS RECALL 13V-528 AND 09E-001 WHICH RELATE TO THESE ISSUES. THE TRUCK WAS INSPECTED, BUT THEY DID NOT FIX ANYTHING.

I WAS HEADING SOUTH ON I-87 IN NEW YORK STATE AT 65 MPH WHEN A LOUD EXPLOSION SOUNDING LIKE A GRENADE GOING OFF OCCURRED UNDER THE FLOORBOARDS. MY PASSENGER AND I THOUGHT THE PARTS UNDER THE TRUCK WERE GOING TO EXPLODE THROUGH THE FLOORBOARDS UNDER US. THERE WAS A LOT OF NOISE OF EXPLODING PARTS. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO COST TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THERE WAS A GREAT DEAL OF OIL ON THE PAVEMENT, WIRES WERE HANGING UNDER THE TRUCK, FUEL LINES AND BRAKE LINES WERE RIPPED, DRIVESHAFT DAMAGED. I NOTICED THEN THAT THE DASHBOARD 4 WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT HAD COME ON, THE FRONT HAZARD LIGHTS WORKED BUT NOT THE REAR. I BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS THE RESULT OF ONE OF TWO THINGS...A FACTORY DEFECT IN THE TRANSFER CASE CLUTCH OR A COMPUTER SYSTEM GLITCH THAT CAUSED THE TRUCK TO SWITCH INTO 4 WD AT HIGH SPEED. THIS WAS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION AND I WAS LUCKY NOT TO BE INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND THAT THE PARTS DID NOT BURST THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUCK ALTHOUGH THEY DENTED IT. *TR

I PUT MY TRUCK INTO PARK AND WAS WALKING AROUND THE REAR TO CHECK MY MAILBOX AND THE TRUCK STARTED ROLLING FORWARD AND HIT MY MAIN GATE, WHICH WAS CLOSED AND HAD A SLIDE BOLT CLOSED. I RAN AROUND TO THE DOOR TO TRY TO JUMP INTO THE CAB (THINKING MY GATE HAD STOPPED THE TRUCK) WHEN MY GATE CRASHED OPEN (BENDING THE HEAVY BOLT AND TEARING ONE OF THE GATES DOWN AND BENDING THE OTHER GATE) AND IT KEPT MOVING TOWARD A TREE. MY TRUCK IS A 2004 WITH ONLY 106,000 HIGHWAY MILES. MY FRIEND HAS THE SAME TRUCK BUT DUALLY 05 AND HAS 62,000 MILES AND HAS TO REPLACE THE SAME THING OTHER THAN HIS STEERING GEAR BOX FOR NOW. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 DODGE RAM 3500. AT 62,000 MILES, AN OIL CHANGE WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT OF THE OIL CHANGE, THE FRONT CV JOINT ON THE DRIVESHAFT FAILED AND DAMAGED THE TRANSMISSION, THE TRANSFER CASE, AND THE FLOOR BOARD. THE BEARINGS LACKED THE PROPER AMOUNT OF GREASE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CROSS MEMBERS NEEDED TO BE ABLE TO CATCH THE DRIVESHAFT. HOWEVER, IF THE CONTACT IS DRIVING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, HE COULD DAMAGE THE CROSS MEMBERS. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THEY COULD AND WOULD NOT SERVICE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS DRIVEN TOO LONG AFTER THE COMPONENT FAILED AND THE PARTS ARE NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. GENERAL MOTORS INFORMED THE DEALER TO NO LONGER GIVE THE CONTACT ANY FURTHER INFORMATION DUE TO THE PROPRIETY ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEFECT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE FLOOR BOARD GAVE IN, IT MILDLY INJURED HIS SON'S FOOT. ALSO, THE FLOOR BOARD SEVERED SEVERAL PIPE LINES. THE REASON HE WANTED IT RETURNED TO THE PRIOR CONDITION IS THAT THE VEHICLE KEEPS HONKING AND THE VEHICLE HEAD LIGHTS ARE FLASHING EVERY TIME HE LEAVES THE VEHICLE IDLING. IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP HONKING AND THE LIGHTS TO STOP FLASHING THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO SHUT IT OFF COMPLETELY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE BOTH 36000 MILES.

TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE 2004 DODGE RAM 35000 HAD RECALL 05V462000 CONCERNING THE POWERTRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. HE STATED THAT SINCE THE RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE HE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE HORN. HE HAS HAD A CRASH WITH THE NEW RECALL REPAIR. WHILE BACKING UP THE VEHICLE TO THE TRAILER HE OPENED THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR TO CONTINUE BACKING UP AND THE HORN INADVERTENTLY WENT OFF. THE CONTACT THEN JUMPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE TRUCK CRASHED INTO THE TRAILER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN PARK AND HE OPENED THE TRUCK DOOR THE HORN WOULD GO OFF STARTLING HIM QUITE A BIT, AND MAKING HIM NERVOUS. THE CONTACT FELT THIS WASA SAFETY PROBLEM. HE WAS A VETERAN AND HAD ISSUES WITH STARTLING WHILE BACKING UP. HE'S NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM UNTIL THE RECALL REPAIR WAS DONE TO HIS VEHICLE. *AK UPDATED 03/02/07. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITHOUT THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION, OR WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE OUT-OF-PARK ALARM HORN BLEW WITHOUT WARNING. A NHTSA RECALL, #05V462000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE CONCERNING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION; HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, BUT WOULD NOT REMOVE THE OUT-OF-PARK ALARM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.

I STOP AT THE RANCH AT ONE OF OUR BARNS TO TALK TO SOME CLIENT ABOUT THERE HORSE. I PLACED THE TRUCK IN PARK AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. I SPOKE WITH THEM IN FRONT OF PICKUP TO USE THE HEADLIGHTS TO SEE. AFTER 7 TO 10 MIN WE PROCEEDED TO WALK THROUGH THE BARN AND AFTER WE GOT HALF WAY WE HEARD SOMEONE YELL, THEN A LOUD CRASH!!. WE CAME RUNNING ONLY TO FIND OUR TRUCK 60 YARDS AWAY FROM WHERE I LEFT IT, STOPPED ONLY BY A TREE. THE DAMAGE WAS EXTENSIVE TO THE RIGHT REAR OF THE TRUCK. WHEN WE NOTIFIED DODGE CHRYSLER ABOUT THE PROBLEM THEY SENT SOMEONE OUT TO INVESTIGATE AND THERE REPORT SAID THEY HAD NOT HEARD ABOUT THIS HAPPENING BEFORE AND DEEMED IT TO BE HUMAN ERROR. APPROX. 5 MINUTES LATER THE TRUCK ROLLED BACKWARD EVENTUALLY GOING DOWN A HILL, KNOCKING DOWN A SMALL TREE, CONTINUED ACROSS A STREET, JUMPED THE CURB, THROUGH A YARD AND HIT AN ENCLOSED CAR TRAILER. EXTENSIVE REAREND DAMAGE AND INSURANCE/REPAIR IS IN PROCESS.

AS I WAS ABOUT TO FUEL THE TRUCK SUDDENLY WENT INTO REVERSE AND STRUCK A VEHICLE THAT WAS BEHIND ME ALSO GETTING GAS. NO DAMAGE OR INJURIES. ON 05/02/05, I EXITED MY TRUCK TO GIVE MAIL TO A LETTER CARRIER. I EXITED THE TRUCK AND WAITED FOR THE CARRIER TO COME OUT OF A STORE. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRUCK WENT INTO REVERSE. I STARTED TO RUN AFTER THE TRUCK AND FELL CAUSING MY SHOULDER TO BE DISLOCATED. THE TRUCK RAN INTO THE PARKED MAIL TRUCK THAT WAS BEHIND ME. I ALSO INJURED MY OTHER ARM (LEFT), MY TWO KNEES, AND MY FORHEAD.

THE DOOR KNOCKED HER OFF HER FEET BUT SHE WAS STILL CAUGHT BY THE SHOULDER HARNESS, AND WAS BEING DRAGGED AS THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO ROLL BACKWARDS. I CAUGHT UP TO THE TRUCK AND DOVE IN THE OPEN PASSENGER DOOR AT THE SAME TIME THAT SHE ROLLED UNDER THE CAB. I GOT MY HAND ON THE BRAKE AND THE TRUCK CAME TO A STOP, BUT THE FRONT WHEEL ROLLED ONTO HER HIP AND THIGH. I PUT THE TRUCK IN DRIVE, IT HAD DROPPED INTO REVERSE FROM PARK, PULLING IT FORWARD, AND SHE ROLLED FREE. SHE WENT BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL AND WAS LATER RELEASED. *AK

NOTICED A VIBRATION WHEN REACHING SPEEDS OVER 72 MILES PER HOUR. CONTACTED LOCAL DEALER REGARDING PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME THE TRUCK WAS IN FOR SERVICE THE LOCAL DEALER DECIDED TO PUT IN A NEW DRIVE LINE AND ALIGNED IT. AFTER THIS SERVICE THE VIBRATION STILL EXISTED. SOON AFTER THE TRUCK STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY DUE TO A MALFUNCTIONING FUEL INJECTOR PUMP. I BELIEVE THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE EVER PRESENT VIBRATION. SECOND TIME LOCAL DEALER SAW THE TRUCK THEY REPLACED THE FUEL INJECTOR PUMP AND TRIED TO RE-ALIGN TO FIX THE VIBRATION. THIS STILL DIDN'T SOLVE THE VIBRATION. A REVIEW OF THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A NATION WIDE PROBLEM AND DEFECT IN THIS TRUCK. AK

CONSUMER STATES HE PULLED UP IN HIS BACK YARD AFTER DRIVING HIS VEHICLE, PUT HIS VEHICLE IN PARK CUT IT OFF. HE THEN GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE WALKED AROUND TO THE REAR OF THE TRUCK TO OPEN THE TAIL GATE AND NOTICED THE TRUCK WAS MOVING BACKWARD. HE STATES HE TRIED TO CATCH IT, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL, IT KNOCKED HIM DOWN. HE THEN COULD DO NO MORE THAN JUST LIE ON THE GROUND AND WATCH THE VEHICLE RUN INTO HIS GATE. HE SAYS THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE WITH HIS SON. HE SAYS HE IS JUST FORTUNATE THAT HE OR HIS SON WAS STANDING IIN THE WAY OF THE VEHICLE WHEN IT BEGIN TO ROLL. HE STATES THAT THE PARK PAWL DO NOT ENGAGE SECURELY, CAUSING IT TO JUST OUT OF PARK AND INTO REVERSE. HE STATES HE HAS LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME NATURE. HE SAYS THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED 8/27/04.

NEW DODGE RAM 3500 WITH ONLY 35 MILES WENT INTO REVERSE ON ITS OWN KNOCKED ME OVER THEN PROCEEDED ON ITS OWN OUT THE DRIVEWAY AND ACROSS THE STREET BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK UP AND CATCH IT. THE TRUCK WILL NOT GO INTO PARK, AND WHEN THE SHIFT LEVER IS IN THE PARK POSITION AND THE INDICATOR READS REVERSE. DRIVE AND NEUTRAL SEEM TO OPERATE CORRECTLY BUT THE DASH INDICATOR DOES NOT SHOW IT TO BE IN NEUTRAL AT TIMES. *JB

MY 2004.5 DODGE 3500 TRUCK WHILE IN PARK WITH ENGINE RUNNING SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THREE VEHICLES. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS HURT. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THE TRANSMISSION HAS JUMPED OUT OF PARK, THE FIRST TWO I THOUGHT MAYBE I DIDN'T HAVE IT ALL THE WAY IN PARK, SO I BECAME AWARE TO CHECK IT, WHICH I DID BEFORE THIS LAST EPISODE. ALTHOUGH I DIDN'T HAVE THE PARKING BRAKE ON, I BELIEVE THIS POSES A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM, WHICH OTHERS MAY BE EXPERIENCING AS WELL.*AK

DODGE RAM 3500 WITH CUMMINS DIESEL. I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK ON AN ABSOLUTELY FLAT PARKING LOT, BELIEVING IT TO BE IN PARK. WALKED 30-40 FEET AND THEN VEHICLE BEGAN MOVING IN REVERSE GEAR AT IDLE AND HIT A CAR. DODGE PERSONNEL HAVE TOLD ME THAT DUE TO THE HIGH TORQUE, IT IS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. AS SOON AS THE FOOT IS REMOVED FROM THE BREAK, IF IT IS IN GEAR IT WILL MOVE AT A PACE FASTER THAN A PERSON CAN EXIT.
