VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTS VERY HARD WHEN BRAKING OR WHEN TRYING TO PASS SOMEONE AND YOU GIVE IT GAS AND IT DOWNSHIFTS TO ACCELERATE IT'S LIKE THE VEHICLE GOES INTO NEUTRAL. I WAS DOING 70MPH WITH SOMEONE ON MY REAR END ON I-77N AND WHEN I TRIED TO SPEED UP TO GET OUT OF HIS WAY CAR SHIFTED REALLY HARD TO WHERE I THOUGHT SOMETHING BROKE AND STARTED TO SLOW DOWN QUICKLY. SINCE I HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL ON THE CAR SHOT UP TO 7000 RPM. SO I HIT THE BREAK TO SHUT OFF CRUISE CONTROL ALL THE WHILE THIS DRIVER BEHIND ME WAS ABOUT TO GET INTO MY REAR END I QUICKLY MOVED INTO THE RIGHT LANE THEN OVER TO THE BIRM. AT ABOUT 35MPH THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGED AGAIN AND I IMMEDIATELY DROVE THE CAR HOME. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY RECOMMENDED A VALVE BODY REPLACEMENT @$3000. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF BLOGS ON THIS TOPIC AND HUNDREDS OF FORD 500 OWNERS SAYS THE REBUILD REPAIR DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEY'RE JUST OUT $3K OR EVEN MORE AND FORD REFUSES TO RECALL THEM AND FIX THE CARS

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE EXPERIENCES TRANSMISSION SHIFTING ISSUES LISTED IN TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (08-24-1). *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A HARSH SHIFT IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONSUMER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF 2012 RECALL NOTICE. THE VALVE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN ADDITION TO BEING REPROGRAMMED. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO HAVE THE FAILED PARTS RECALLED. ACCORDING TO OTHERS ONLINE THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT IS COMMON WITH A THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE "FIX" FORD PROVIDED IN THEIR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM, HOWEVER LIKE MANY OTHERS THIS HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. FORD NEEDS TO STAND BY THERE PRODUCTS. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO AVOID HITTING ME FROM BEHIND. WE WERE LUCKY THAT DID NOT OCCUR OTHER WAYS IT COULD HAVE CREATED A PILE UP ON THE FREEWAY. I HAVE REPORTED THIS SITUATION TO FORD DEALERS BUT NO AVAILABLE RESPONSE.LATER ON I WENT TO A PRIVATE CAR SERVICE IN MY TOWN OF MN AND WAS EXPLAINED THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM,IT APPEARS THAT THE TRANSMISSION HOUSING BENDS UP WITH INCREASED TEMPERATURE AND CAUSES THIS FAILURE. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THIS SITUATION DOES NOT OCCUR DURING WINTER MONTHS. IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND FORD HAS NOT RESPONDED TO THIS ISSUE, I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE 4 -5 YEARS AGO, BUT NOT WANTING TO SELL IT TO AVOID SOMEONE ELSE TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT SPECIFICALLY IF CHILDREN ARE INVOLVED. THE REPAIR IS EXPENSIVE AND I HAVE DRIVEN OTHER FORD AND MERCURY OF ABOUT SAME YEARS AND FIND OUT EXACT PROBLEMS. I WAS DRIVING AT THE APPROX. SPEED OF 58MPH AND MY CAR STARTING SKIPPING AND CHUGGING. I SLOWED DOWN AND AS I BEGUN TO SLOW DOWN MY CAR GAVE ME A DIAGNOSIS CODE OF FAILSAFE ENGINE MODE, THEN MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WITH NO POWER AT ALL. IT WAS HARD TO PULL OFF THE RODE AND STEER THE CAR OFF THE ROAD BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHTENED UP. I PULLED OVER AND LET THE CAR SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN TRIED RE-CRANKING THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO RE-CRANK THE CAR AND DROVE FURTHER UP THE RODE. I CONTINUED TO HAVE THESE PROBLEMS. I DROVE APPROX. 10 MILES FROM THE FIRST INDICATION THAT HAPPENED AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO CUT OFF AND GIVE ME THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE APPROX 4 MORE TIMES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME WITH THE CAR. I LET THE CAR COOL FOR AN HOUR OR SO AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE ENTIRE COAL PACK, ALL 6 SPARK PLUGS, AND REPLACED THE MANIFEST. I PICKED MY CAR UP ONCE REPAIRED AT THE LOCAL MECHANIC AND GOT APPROX. 6 MILES FROM THE SHOP AND IT CUT OFF AND DID THE SAME THING OVER AGAIN. I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR AT ALL WITHOUT IT GIVING ME THE ERROR MESSAGE AND CUTTING OFF. I HAVE READ ALOT OF FORUMS AND BLOGS AND OTHERS ARE HAVING THESE SAME ISSUES THAT I AM HAVING. OWN A 2005 FORD 500. THROTTLE BODY HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 76000 MILES, 1000 MILES OVER OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY. WE ASKED THE DEALER IF THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND WERE TOLD THAT THEY HAD NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE THROTTLE BODY ON THE FORD 500. NOW I'M HEARING THAT FORD IS BEING INVESTIGATED FOR THROTTLE BODY ISSUES ON DIFFERENT MODELS OF CARS BUT THE FORD 500 WAS NOT PART OF THE INVESTIGATION. *TR
