I am reporting a premature transmission failure on my 2022 Ford Bronco at approximately 85,000 miles. The vehicle required a full transmission replacement after experiencing internal transmission failure described by a Ford service manager as “something came apart inside the transmission.” The dealership quoted $13,000 for transmission replacement. Independent transmission specialists quoted approximately half that amount, indicating the dealership pricing is inflated. A major drivetrain failure at this mileage is abnormal and suggests a manufacturing defect. This issue renders the vehicle unsafe and unreliable and occurred far earlier than the expected life of a transmission. I am concerned this represents a systemic defect in Ford Bronco transmissions and request this complaint be documented and investigated.
Transmission failed, Ford diagnosed it as needing the torque converter replaced, however, after this was fixed at a transmission shop, the problem persisted and that mechanic said the transmission needs to be rebuilt. My safety was out at risk when my vehicle stalled at an intersection and would not accelerate. Also, on two occasions, when the vehicle was put into reverse, it jerked forward and did not go backwards. Luckily nothing was hit in front of my vehicle, although it could have due to being in a parking spot when theirs happened. Ford confirmed an issue on 11/3/25 and another independent mechanic replaced the converter, but stayed the transmission needs to be rebuilt after that did not correct the problem. He states that the torque converter would not cause the reverse issues. Initially, no warning lamps came on, but now the wrench light and check engine light are on. Ford app gave two errors, one on 11/13/25: Powertrain malfunction/reduced power What Is Happening? The transmission control module has detected a concern when trying to shift to 8th gear. A failsafe logic disables 7th gear for the remainder of this key cycle. What Should I Do? Have your vehicle checked by an authorized dealer as soon as possible And one on 11/21/25 Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power: What Is Happening? The powertrain control system has detected one of the transmission clutches did not apply within the expected time as expected. Some transmission gears may not being available resulting in delayed or harsh shifts into another gear. Additional alerts that may provide additional information may accompany this alert. What Should I Do? Have your vehicle checked by an authorized dealer as soon as possible. Vehicle already had Powertrain issues last year when transaxle assembly was replaced and there was an issue with the exhaust, which ended up falling off the engine after Ford worked on it. Also, had to replace vacuum pump the year before that.
All of a sudden, when I would shift the gear to neutral or reverse the car would only drive forward. While there are other recalls related to this issue for other models, there isn’t a recall for this 2022 model. The ford dealership said it needs a new transmission and that would cost around $10,000.
Along with the current unable to be fixed PCM recall, the customer service satisfaction program regarding the drivers side buckle replacement and the replacement of high-pressure fuel injectors that I was told they will only replace if there is an issue because it is not considered a recall. I have had multiple other recalls that were done and several issues that weren't related to recalls. In the first year the bushings were replaced to ease the loud noise when backing up. At 36,0000 miles I had no heat. The water pump failed and was fixed under powertrain warranty. At 41000 miles (just over warranty) the AC stopped working. The condenser failed and was my responsibility to pay. Ford did work out a deal with me on that repair due to all of the other issues I had previously. Currently, my drivers side back seatbelt does not work, the car shudders when driving and recently my forward collision indicator goes off for no reason. I have not reached out to have these items checked yet as I have spent far to much time dealing with Ford. I bought this car to feel safe and confident on the road and I have never felt that. The lack of compassion from Ford for all the money wasted in missed work and repairs because they cannot produce a quality vehicle is abhorrent.
My 2022 Ford Bronco Sport started making grinding noises when I would back up at an angle earlier this summer. I made an appointment and took the car to the dealership. They took it apart and determined it was the transaxle. The tech said this was a known problem, but not a recall. Luckily, I was within the 36-month warranty. However, due to trouble getting parts, the dealership has had my car for seven weeks now. The parts arrived, but they said they didn't have the right tool because this was a "fairly extensive rebuild." This vehicle has just over 28,000 miles on it.
Rear differential has gone out at less than 50,000 miles and a new rear axle has been on back order for 2 months
I have a 2022 Ford Bronco Big Bend that I bought brand new, and just three years later, the transmission completely failed—without any warning signs. No lights, no noises, no slow shifting. It just suddenly died while I was driving and left me stranded in the middle of the highway, which was incredibly dangerous. I immediately tried to move over to the right lane, but the car was behaving erratically— accelerating, slowing down, braking, then speeding up again on its own. Once it was taken to the mechanic, they found the shifter wasn’t even functioning properly. When placed in neutral, the car would accelerate. When placed in drive, it would go backward, and when in reverse, it would go forward. It was officially diagnosed with transmission failure after I had it towed to my nearest dealership. I’ve maintained this vehicle responsibly and have never driven it roughly or taken it off-road. Still, I was quoted nearly $10,000 to replace the transmission, which is outrageous for a three-year-old SUV. Ford refuses to cover the repair, even though this seems like a serious manufacturing issue. I’m still making payments on the vehicle, and now it’s completely unusable. I’ve heard of similar things happening to other ford broncos and I want there to be a full recall because it’s clearly a major problem.
Regarding TSB 24-2185 RDU is faulty. The factory RDU vent hose needs to be upgraded due to the default hose venting road debris into the rear differential. This needs to be a recall.
In 2022 I bought my bronco and took it in for the transmission going into the wrong gear and coming out of park. They said yes that’s happening and did something with the programming. It continued to run funny and have occasional issues with shifting which I assumed was in my head. Yesterday however I found out it wasn’t. I turned my bronco on and put it in reverse but it just started reviving and didn’t move so I tried drive same thing so I turned it off then back on all of a sudden it made a bang and lunged into reverse in front of a car and I almost got hit. I also when to pull out a few weeks prior and my car didn’t go and I almost got hit. Today my bronco stalled on the highway I was able to coast off the road but it then sounded like a chainsaw and wouldn’t go into any gear so I had it towed. I get the three chance rule however I feel like in the case due to repeated and extensive safety concern they need to do something. I also am not the only 2022 bronco owner with these exact issues as I found others on online forums with the same things.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Bronco Sport. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated. The contact was able to pull over to an empty parking lot. The contact attempted to reverse; however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle after waiting fortwo minutes; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The transmission was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified on the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was referred by the manufacture to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 121,000.

While parking in a parking lot of a local store I pulled into a spot and stopped about 2 feet from a bumper post. I removed my foot from the brake pedal to pull closer to the post. The car began to idle forward. When I was as close to the post as I intended I stepped on the brake. The car continued to idle forward until I hit the post causing very minor damage to the hood of my car. After hitting the post I was stopped. I put the car in reverse and took my foot off the brake. The vehicle did not moved so i touched the gas intending to back up a foot or so. The car picked up speed. I braked, but the car continued to pick up speed. I pressed harder on the brake, feeling as though I was standing on it. The car did not stop nor slow down. While feeling as though I was standing on the brake the car sped up I would estimate to 5-7 mph. I traveled straight back across the drive lane and continued to back into the parking spot behind me and hit the bumper in that parking causing damage to my lift gate and miscellaneous electrical components and the rear bumper. I have a repair estimate for $3400.00. I reported to the store personnel, the local police, and was examined by emergency medical. It was determined there was no damage to store property and medical personnel found my blood pressure was mildly elevated and the I felt slightly disoriented, but otherwise tested normal. I can only surmise that this was a temporary software malfunction. Braking has returned to normal. I talked to a ford dealer's Rep and he did not know what could have caused it. He also advised I could have diagnostics started for $278.00. I could not afford it at that time. Please note that the police officer said i could pick up the police report, but i have not done so. On [XXX], the vehicle overheated during a commute, resulting in a blown radiator cap and an empty engine coolant reservoir. Coolant levels had been properly maintained up to that point. The following day, engine coolant was again low, though no visible leaks were found. On April 12, I requested warranty service but was told “services aren’t rendered on Saturdays” despite the service department being open. An appointment was scheduled for April 14 to inspect the overheating damage and address recall #25502. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) When I arrived on April 14, I was denied service due to the department being “backed up and understaffed.” I expressed concern about further driving the car in its condition, but Service Advisor Bill Crovo insisted it was safe to drive and denied my request to leave the vehicle on-site. I was also not offered a complimentary vehicle or alternative transportation. On April 17, I called to escalate the matter. The General Service Manager, Chris Gagnon, not only dismissed my concerns but stated he could refuse service on a vehicle that is clearly under active warranty coverage. This is not only unprofessional — it is illegal under Massachusetts consumer protection law. At this point, I was forced to seek help from other dealerships, one of which advised me to pressure the selling dealership to fulfill its obligation. I called back, and Mr. Gagnon assured me the issue would be handled. The vehicle was taken in on April 18, and the water pump was replaced. On April 24, I picked it up and drove just 21 miles before the engine began making an unfamiliar noise and the coolant reservoir was, once again, empty. I got the vehicle towed to a different dealership, Salem Ford in New Hampshire. The second dealership confirmed — in writing — that the first dealership skipped a critical step during the water pump replacement, directly causing the continued issue.
I was trying to park my vehicle and it started blinking and saying park is not available, vehicle is not in park. Place the park brake before exiting the vehicle. I was on a downward slope, so I found an area where it was flat and tried to restart my vehicle, but it was doing the same thing. I had to go to work, so I parked my car and placed the brake on. Later I went out on lunch and the car wouldn't start. I had to call a tow truck because Ford refused to come tow my 2022 Ford Bronco Sport or give me a loaner. The next day after Ford replaced my battery, they told me my car now had transmission issues that were not there before I had a dead battery. I know there is a recall on the 12v battery, but a remedy has not yet been issued and many customers are suffering. I asked about the recall or my warranty and I was basically laughed at because I have too many miles on my car. Why is a vehicle manufacturer able to continuly sell recalled vehicles and leave lives at stake for a recall that can end up killing someone?
On April 8th 2025 our vehicle went into "limp mode" for the third time in 6 months. The previous incidents were part of an active recall and we're repaired by a does dealership. This time it is supposedly the failure of a fuel pump sensor causing the issue (per ford service diagnosis) which they say is NOT covered by fords recall nor is it covered under any warranty and must be paid for out of pocket. This repeat occurrence has caused our vehicle to stall in traffic not just when at stops but also just when turning or pulling onto streets or highway. This has happened while crossing busy streets putting the lives of our family at RISK MULTIPLE times. Ford refuses to pay for rental vehicles while our vehicle has been in repair for this issue and also while the vehicle is in an unsafe condition to drive. This also causes undo hardship for our family as we are not able to pay for a rental vehicle for extended amounts of time while our vehicle is in an unsafe state. I am highly concerned that Ford is trying to "wash their hands" of this vehicle and avoid true remedy the overwhelming evidence of problems of these vehicles. I have included the previous invoices for the recall repairs that caused this. I have not yet received the invoice for the repair being done currently as of 4/17/2025 .There are additional safety issues we've encountered with the "safety features" of the vehicle that i will be submitting separately.

Every time road conditions are wet (rain, snow) the drive lane module gets wet and will disable entire transmission and several error codes come up stating power train failure. Hill start assist is disabled, 4wd is disabled, pre-collision assist is disabled and the Bronco Sport's drive modes for various road conditions are also disabled. Service engine soon light came on along with several messages of power train failure appeared in Ford pass app. First appeared last year and happened once during a major snowstorm and now reappearing one week ago during the first major snowfall for the area and had continued since.
Over the past year my Bronco Sport has thrown two different codes, powertrain malfunction and collision assist unavailable, and put me in limp mode, 25 times. And the last several times it has gone into limp mode it is accompanied by a weird smell. It has been on the hoist several times at the Ford dealership Service Center having parts replaced to “fix” this issue. But nothing they try has fixed it. They even had a Ford Corporate technician call and walk them through what to try/test/fix. It’s been on the hoist being “fixed” again a couple of times since then. They said they would fly a Ford Engineer out to “fix” it over a month ago but have not done so. It’s terrifying when it goes in to limp mode because I can’t GO. I just pray I don’t get slammed in to every time it throws these codes and puts me in limp mode. The most recent occurrence was just today!
Water pump failure 12/14/2023. No warning lights/indications. Was noticed when checking oil/fluids at home. Ford told me to continue driving it at risk of overheating due to back ordered parts. 3 weeks before new parts arrives and was fixed
I have had my 2022 Ford Bronco Sport for two years and four months. I have maintained my car very well, doing all of the recommendations that the dealership told me throughout the years. However, out of no where on Friday, November 1st, 2024 my transmission went without any signs or symptoms beforehand. This is a two year old car, this issue should not be happening.
I’ve had my 2022 ford bronco sport for about 2 1/2 years I ordered it brand new and it made 8 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. Within the past month it’s completely blacked out my radio display while I was driving and wouldn’t come back on until it was turned off and turned back on. Now when I start it it’s acting like the battery is going out. I wouldn’t expect a battery to go out under 3 years. Please please can you help me with these issues.
While turning during slow turns, my rear differential makes a growling noise. The growl has gotten progressively louder. Another Bronco Sport owner had the same issue and traded their vehicle due to the inability and high cost of the repair.
There is a repetitive water pump failure in my 2022 Ford Bronco Sport. After 3 replacements, they believe they know what is causing it and even though all the failures occurred under warranty they want to charge $2700 for a decontamination in the coolant lines because they now believe that is the cause. My safety is put at risk daily as I risk my engine blowing up from faulty water pumps. When I did not have the $2700 to repair the decontamination, they told me I would just need an additional water pump down the line. Service records will be attached to this report. No warning lamps or messages, just a strong smell of coolant. Also, the seals on the rear drive shaft leak, they repaired a seal. Now the rear vent tube is leaking. The warranty and extended warranty does not cover the repair. Ford refuses to fix the problem and the dealership continues to say Ford is aware of the issues with that vehicle year but they refuse to fix them.
Water pump leak discovered at oil maintenance appointment at 25,000 miles. No service light message appeared. Water pump was replaced by dealer. Dealer notes; Degas bottle low added coolant, verified coolant leak coming from water pump weep hole. Recommend replacement of water pump. I do not understand how a two year old car already needs a water pump replacement

June 28th, 2024; the entire car turned off on its own while I was waiting for a red light. The engine was primarily off from the auto-start feature, like normal, except after I let go of the brake the entire car just shuts off. The start button would not press, the brake pedal was insanely stiff to press, and the dashboard had all the lights turned on an off, and I couldn't change gears whatsoever. Many displays on the dash appeared, parking brake was forced to turn on, pre-collision feature disabled, "System off to save battery" on the main screen, etc. I was in the middle of traffic, so I was putting myself and others in danger while my car suddenly shuts off without prior warning. There was never an indication that this would happen, and I only had the car for a year and a half, so I would think the only problem would be the system itself. I managed to turn the car on by putting the key fob on the center console where the Bronco can read it, and it immediately turned on after an hour. The dealership did check it out right after and said it only needed a small system update. Ever since, the car was fine until July 24th: the car did not start again. I was home and my car was parked, so no danger this time. However, I tried laying the key on the console again, including my spare key, but no luck. I had originally thought it was the battery in my key that was low, but it was working fine like always. However, when I locked the car, the horn and lights were faded, and weren't as strong as it should sound. Although this is the second occurrence in about a month, I've only had the dealership inspect it once. I am available for inspection after August 1st. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Bronco Sport. The contact stated that the vehicle had previously been repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V267000 (Electrical System, Power Train); however, the failure reoccurred several times. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. Additionally, after the vehicle was restarted, the vehicle lost motive power. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not yet repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 18,960.

Rubbing noise in tail end of vehicle. Ford has a TSB (24-2185) for this problem. Dealership states it is not covered under the powertrain bc they are not replacing the entire differential but replacing certain parts.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Bronco Sport. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V267000 (Electrical System, Power Train). The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, there was a loud popping sound coming from the engine compartment with a clicking sound near the fuel tank. The contact’s husband inspected the engine compartment and noticed that the battery had exploded. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

When driving down the highway at 80 MPH, vehicle lost all infotainment and instrument panel. This happened several times, battery and alternator were tested and returned nothing. Upon completion of the drive, the vehicle would not start and the alternator had to be replaced. Approximately 3 months prior the drive train lost power and the turbo had to be replaced.
Sitting in school drop off, car shut off by itself and is dead. What if that happened while driving? Completely frightening!
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Bronco Sport. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle briefly jerked, after which the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The driver was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart; however, upon shifting the vehicle into drive, the vehicle shifted into reverse instead. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V267000 (Electrical System, Power Train), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 11,000.

My vehicle started with not accelerating and bogging down when going after a stop, it shakes/jerks from 1-3 gear. The rpm’s jump all over the place and at times it will be very low speed, jerking when trying to shift. I haven’t even had the car two years, I have two children and this happened at an intersection and scared us all. It had happened so many times I’m scared to drive it. I took it to a ford dealership, they were able to recreate the issue and said it may be the transmission. There are now warning lights on or anything indicating what the issue is. They told me to keep driving it until a code comes up or to wait till June when they can inspect it. It just keeps getting worst.
The automatic transmission was leaking (at about 12K miles) a heavy amount of fluid. I noticed a foul/burnt smell while driving with the heater/ac/vent on and that occurred around [XXX] I noticed a puddle of fluid on my driveway around [XXX]. The car is currently at Aaron Ford of Escondido, CA, and they confirmed the problem. The dealer is waiting for parts to arrive to repair/seal the transmission. My safety was put at risk because the leak could have rendered the transmission inoperable and could have caused a serious accident while driving. Only the dealer has inspected the vehicle. There were no warning lights/alerts on the dash. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Defective water pump caused coolant leak and the serp belt to deteriorate at 30,000 miles. Previous years of this vehicle have been recalled for this issue but mine was not recalled. The service department refused to fix the damage caused to my car under warranty. The water pump was replaced under warranty but I had to pay for the serp belt.
I took the car in to get it checked for a grinding noise that was being made when I would pull out of a parking spot. They found that the rear differential went out and needs to be replaced. This is on a 2022 Bronco Sport with 41k miles. It is currently at the Ford dealership but the part is on back order with no eta.

My car lost power on the highway. I took it to the dealership. They had the vehicle for 2 months and said it was repaired under warranty/recall. The same day that I received the car back, the same problem occurred. They kept it for a few days and said they could not determine the issue and released it back to me yesterday. This morning, it lost power again, while i was taking a left hand turn into oncoming traffic. I was almost t-boned. There is an huge safety issue here that is being brushed off and I’m afraid I will end up in a terrible accident.
Rear brakes moan when reversing at low speed. Has done this since day one. Also the transmission shifts are hard and hangs in sport mode and won’t shift. It hangs at almost 5k rpms and when I let off the gas no shift till 2300 rpms. Took it in and they looked at the transmission fluid said it was darker than usual for the mileage (14,000) and recommended a fluid flush that’s not covered by warranty. They changed fluid and I ask why it was doing this they said “ well that’s why we changed the fluid” which tells me nothing! Now the engine compartment rattle in gear and the transmission temperature after driving only 5 miles is hot enough to fry an egg on so my guess is it runs too hot and is burning or oxidation why else would it be black?

The wrench icon which refers to the Powertrain system keeps coming on. I received a message from the Ford pass system that there was (Fault) in the Powertrain system. That power was reduced. Further it said to see a dealer right away. All of the Ford Dealers in my area are all booked up.
Received a Powertrain malfunction/reduced power warning at 190 miles. Noticed large oil leak on garage floor which turned out was leaking from TPU due to faulty cap. Car has been at dealer for 8 days to replace fluid and cap and no explanation provided for powertrain warning.
