The contact owns a 2007 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, another motorist yelled out that the brake lights were not working. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic four times where it was diagnosed that the housing, LED conversion, tail light bulb, socket, and connector needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 158,493.

DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY BRAKE PEDAL GOT REAL SPONGY AND THEN SOUNDED LIKE AIR BLOWING THROUGH LINES. BARELY GOT HOME WITH MINIMAL BRAKE USAGE. I WAS DRIVING ON LEE ROAD LUCKILY NOT TOO FAR FROM MY HOME. ALSO FOG LIGHTS DON'T WORK. NOT SURE IF IT'S A SWITCH RELATED PROBLEM OR SOMETHING ELSE. DRIVER SIDE TAIL LIGHT BULB KEEPS GOING OUT. THE SOCKET APPEARS TO BE MELTED/CHARRED. I HAVE HAD THE BULB REPLACED THREE TIMES IN LESS THAN A YEAR. EVERY TIME THE BULB GOES OUT, MY BRAKE LIGHT IS AFFECTED AND I GET PULLED OVER AND ISSUED A FIX-IT TICKET BY THE POLICE.

MY BLINKER LIGHT STARTED BLINKING REALLY FAST AND I KNEW THAT THAT INDICTATED THAT I HAD A BULB OUT. I SAW THAT IT WAS THE REAR LEFT AND PURCHASED A NEW BULB FOR IT. I SEARCHED ONLINE FOR HOW TO CHANGE THE BULB PROPERLY AND FOUND SEVERAL VIDEOS FOR HOW TO DO IT BUT THEY ALL SHOWED THAT THE BULB SOCKET HAD OVERHEATED AND WAS BURNT. SURE ENOUGH, WHEN I OPENED UP MINE TO CHANGE THE BULB, THE SOCKET THAT HOLDS THE BULB IS BURNT AND THE THE BULB WAS PARTIALLY MELTED INTO THE SOCKET. I CHECKED OTHER SIDE AND IT IS THE SAME THING. THE SOCKET IS BURNT AND CHARRED AND THE BULB IS STUCK IN IT. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN OVERHEATING ISSUE AND I'M CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE.

THE REAR TAIL LIGHT SOCKET ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS EXTREMELY CHARRED. THE LIGHT BULB ON THAT SIDE HAS FAILED 5 TIMES OVER 7 YEARS, CLEARLY FROM OVERHEATING, CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKE LIGHT AND TURN LIGHT. THE OTHER SIDE HAS NEVER FAILED BUT SHOWS EARLY SIGNS OF OVERHEATING.

I WAS DRIVING AND NOTICED MY RIGHT BLINKER FLASHING QUICKLY SO I GOT A NEW REAR RIGHT TURN SIGNAL BULB. WHEN REPLACING THE BULB I NOTICED THAT THE BULB WAS MELTED INTO THE SOCKET. I CHECKED THE OTHER SIDE AND IT WAS CHARRED AND MELTED EVEN WORSE THEN THE BULB THAT WASN'T WORKING. THIS IS VERY SCARY AND A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT COULD START A FIRE AND MY CHILD IS IN THE BACK SEAT!

WHEN OPERATING THE TURN SIGNALS IN EITHER DIRECTION THE REAR LIGHT WOULD NOT WORK INTERMITTENTLY AT FIRST, AND THEN PERMANENTLY. UPON PULLING THE REAR BULB HOUSING, I NOTICED THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHT SOCKET WAS BURNT IN APPEARANCE. OPON TRYING TO REMOVE THE BULBS, ONE OF THE RETAINING TABS ON ONE SIDE BROKE OFF. INSIDE THE SOCKETS (BOTH SIDES) WERE FULL OF WHITISH CORROSION. THE MAIN ISSUE HERE IS TWOFOLD: IF YOU LOOK ONLINE ON THE FORD EDGE FORUM, YOU WILL SEE MANY, MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. SECONDLY, THIS PRESENTS A FIRE AND DRIVING HAZARD. KEEP IN MIND MY WIFE'S CAR DOES NOT EVEN HAVE 70,000 MILES ON IT YET AND IS GARAGE KEPT. SHE DOES NOT RIDE THE BRAKES AND TURN SIGNALS ARE USED AS OFTEN AS NEEDED...HAZARDS HARDLY EVER USED. I'LL HAVE TO PAY FOR 2 NEW SOCKETS AND BULBS WITH NO GUARANTEE IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN.

I WAS PULLED OVER FOR HAVING A BURNT OUT TAIL LIGHT. (NO TICKET ISSUED) WHEN I GOT TO WORK I CHANGED THE BULB AND DISCOVERED THAT THE BULB WAS NOT BURNT OUT BUT HAD MELTED THE SOCKET ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I REALIZED THAT BOTH TAIL LIGHTS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE BULBS HAD ALSO BEEN MELTING THE INTERIOR RED PART OF THE TAIL LIGHT. THERE IS NOW AN AREA OF THE LIGHTS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR THAT HAVE WHITE LIGHT SHINING THROUGH THE LENS INSTEAD OF RED. THE DESIGN OF THE LIGHT HAS THE BULB TOO CLOSE TO THE LENS AND THERE ISN'T ENOUGH ROOM TO DISSIPATE HEAT FROM THE BULB CAUSING THE LENS TO MELT AND THE SOCKET TO MELT. I HAVE BEEN ON THE FORD EDGE FORUM AND THERE SEEM TO BE AN ALARMING NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME THING. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY FORD. *TR

THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL NOT TURN OFF. THE DOOR AJAR INDICATOR REMAINS ON EVEN THOUGH THE DOORS HAVE BEEN FIRMLY CLOSED CAUSING THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TO REMAIN ON. AT FIRST I WAS ABLE TO SLAM THE DOOR SHUT UNTIL IT WOULD TRIGGER THE LIGHTS TO TURN OFF. THEN, I HAD TO USE WD-40 AND AFTER 3 DAYS OF DOING THIS EVERY TIME I ENTERED OR EXITED THE VEHICLE, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD REMAIN ON. MOST RECENTLY, MY CAR BATTERY DIED BECAUSE OF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS NEVER TURNING OFF. I SLAMMED MY DOOR SHUT FOR OVER AN HOUR TRYING TO GET THE LIGHTS TO TURN OFF AND NOTHING WORKED. MY BATTERY HAS DIED 3 TIMES NOW DUE TO THE INTERIOR LIGHTS NOT SHUTTING OFF EVEN THOUGH ALL THE DOORS WERE FIRMLY SHUT. ONCE WAS AT WORK, I DIDN'T HAVE THE TIME TO KEEP SLAMMING MY DOOR FOR IT TO TURN OFF. FINALLY I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME IT WOULD COST APPROX. $400 TO FIX THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AND THE FORD EDGES ARE KNOWN TO HAVE THIS DEFECT. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ONLINE IT APPEARS TO HAPPEN QUITE FREQUENTLY WITH THIS VEHICLE. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND NOT AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE! *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE BRAKE FAILURE. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD EDGE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER FOR THREE WEEKS TO REPAIR THE SEAT. THE BOLTS IN THE SEAT WERE VISIBLE AND INJURED ONE OF THE PASSENGERS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SCREWS AND COVERED THEM WITH A RUBBER SEAL; HOWEVER, THEY CONTINUE TO FALL OFF AND EXPOSE THE SCREWS. AT 150 MILES, THE LINING IN THE MOONROOF FELL OFF OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. SIX MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD GRINDING SOUND WHEN HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE CORRODED. THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED AND THE ROTORS WERE CLEANED. THE FRONT AND REAR WINDOWS DO NOT GRIP OR SEAL PROPERLY WHEN THEY ARE ROLLED UP OR DOWN. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE WINDOW FAILURE ON FOUR OCCASIONS AND EVENTUALLY STATED THAT THEY HAD TO CHANGE THE PAPER ON THE ROLLERS. THE TWO REAR EXTERIOR LIGHTS CONTINUE TO FILL UP WITH WATER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE ON THREE OCCASIONS AND REPLACED THE TAIL LIGHTS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THERE SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN FAILURE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE GEAR SHIFT FAILED TO ENGAGE IN PARK, DRIVE, AND REVERSE. A PASSENGER HAD TO STOP TRAFFIC SINCE THE GEAR SHIFT WAS LOCKED IN REVERSE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON FEBRUARY 20, 2008; HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE EARLIEST THEY COULD SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WOULD BE ON MARCH 1, 2008. THE FAILURE OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY AND HAS BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP EVERY OTHER WEEK SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED. THE CONTACT IS THE ORIGINAL OWNER. THE DEALER HAS OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE IN REPLACING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO ONLY HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED BY A DEALER THAT IS ONE OR MORE HOURS AWAY FROM HER RESIDENCE. IT WAS AT NIGHT AND THE HEADLIGHTS WERE IN AUTOMATIC MODE. I WENT TO TURN THE HIGH BEAMS ON BY PULLING THE LEVER TOWARDS ME (THE LEVER SHOULD BE PUSHED AWAY IN THIS CAR BUT I WAS USED TO MY WORK VAN WHERE I PULL THE LEVER), AND THE HIGH BEAMS JUST FLASHED ON AND THEN THE HEADLIGHTS WENT COMPLETELY OUT AND MY WIFE AND I WERE IN COMPLETE DARKNESS DRIVING 45 MPH. *TR
