# 1. Brakes - There is a known brake issue with these vehicles. The brakes started making a loud hissing noise and we were almost unable to stop the vehicle and ended up in the middle of an intersection. This could have caused an accident and needs to be recalled. There was no warning, messages, or signs before this happened. These are the parts the repair shop and Ford dealership said needed to be replaced: Power Brake Booster, Hydraulic Control Unit, and Master Cylinder. #2 - Transmission - The car began to shake when trying to climb up a small hill and it also started to shake on the interstate. There were no warnings or messages that appeared.

The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle in for a diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that they could not assist since the VIN was not included in a recall related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The PTU have a severe problem and the computer didn't warn for this problem until the car just stop getting out of the freeway, slowing down and making loud noises under also stop complity at the street and a car behind me almost crashed in my back, I tried to switch from drive to park and didn't move then I tried the reverse and make a loud sound then I put in drive and star advancing very slowly and with loud noise, finally I got home and smoke staring coming in the front driver side and the smell was a burning rubber. After I got out and let the car to cool down I tried to drive in reverse but the reverse didn't work, only from drive and L gear, I parked my car with the front end facing my home, I can't drive it it all
DASH LIGHTS FLASH AND CAR LOSES POWER DURING TRAVEL RESULTING IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY BRAKE PEDAL GOT REAL SPONGY AND THEN SOUNDED LIKE AIR BLOWING THROUGH LINES. BARELY GOT HOME WITH MINIMAL BRAKE USAGE. I WAS DRIVING ON LEE ROAD LUCKILY NOT TOO FAR FROM MY HOME. ALSO FOG LIGHTS DON'T WORK. NOT SURE IF IT'S A SWITCH RELATED PROBLEM OR SOMETHING ELSE. I HAVE REPLACED THE PTU IN MY 07 FORD EDGE A FEW YEARS BACK THAT THE DEALERSHIP THEMSELVES TOLD ME THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON IT BECAUSE OF THE POOR DESIGN FOR $500. NOW I AM HAVING TO REPLACE THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER BECAUSE I WOULD BE DRIVING AND HEAR A HISSING NOISE WHEN BRAKING OR MY BRAKES WOULD GET REALLY FIRM. WHICH I WAS TOLD THAT THE ORIGINAL OWNER COULD HAVE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE NOT AS A RECALL, BUT SOMETHING ELSE. THAT IS NOW GOING TO COST $900.00. I DRIVE KIDS THAT I HAVE HAD PRETTY IMPORTANT THINGS FAIL THAT FORD NEVER RECALLED AND IT REALLY MAKES ME CONSIDER INVESTING IN ANOTHER FORD EVER AGAIN. IF SAFETY ISSUES AREN'T ENOUGH TO RECALL. WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND I IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO PULL OUT OF THE MAIN PATH OF TRAFFIC. I HAD IT TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP TO DETERMINE CAUSE. IT IS THE TRANSMISSION. IT IS NOW AT THE FORD DEALER'S GARAGE AND I AM TOLD IT IS A TRANSMISSION. PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE HAS 75K MILES AND I HAVE MAINTAINED IT TO THE COMPLY WITH FORD'S SPECS. WHILE TRAVELING FROM WORK TO HOME HAD A LOST OF POWER AND STARTED MAKING NOISE UPFRONT SO PULLED OVER AND CHECKED EVERYTHING AND IT WAS FINE FLUIDS CHECKED REGULARLY AND WAS TOLD IT COULD BE A PTU PROBLEM AND IT HAS THE JERKING AND SOMETIMES YOU HEAR A CHAIN NOISE AND SOUNDS LIKE A SLAPPING SOUND. HAS SOMETHING LEAKING UP BY TRANNY PRETTY SURE ITS THE PTU CAUSE THAT'S EXACTLY WHERE'S IT'S LOCATED AND HAVE READ LOTS OF THINGS ONLINE AND EVERYTHING. FORD STATES THAT THE PTU HAS A LIFETIME OIL AND DOES NOT NEED CHANGED YET THE UNIT IS LOCATED SO CLOSE TO EXHAUST THAT THE OIL TURNS TO SLUDGE, THERE IS NO PLUG TO CHECK FLUID CONDITIONS THERE IS NO WAY TO FLUSH AND OR REFILL. THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE PTU BUT HOW DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION WAS CAUSED? NO ONE KNOWS BECAUSE ITS SUPPOSEDLY A LIFETIME OIL AND THE DANGEROUS HEATING CONDITIONS OF THE PLACEMENT OF THE PTU HEATS THE OIL USELESS AND THE CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION. DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE ASSESSED UPON REMOVAL, YOU MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. I DO NOT HAVE ANY DOCUMENTATION ATTACHED BECAUSE I HAVE POURED SO MUCH MONEY INTO TRYING TO ISOLATE AND DIAGNOSE I NOW CANT AFFORD TO HAVE THIS VERY EXPENSIVE PROBLEM FIXED. THIS HAS A POOR DESIGN AND SHOULD BE REPLACED BY THE MANUFACTURE.

THE POWERTRAIN (WRENCH) & SERVICE ENGINE SIGNALS COME ON AFTER EXPERIENCING LOSS OF SPEED SUCH AS AFTER A TRAFFIC LIGHT STOP. WE HAVE TO PUSH DOWN FAR ON THE GAS PEDAL JUST TO MOVE AND THIS IS FOLLOWED BY ROUGH SHIFTING (MAKES A SUDDEN JERK AND LOUD THUD SOUND). A FEW MINUTES LATER IT STARTED AGAIN SEEMINGLY WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM. UNTIL TWO WEEKS AGO, SHE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND THE CAR SHUT OFF FOR THE THIRD TIME. MILEAGE AT THIS TIME IS 145K. ***DRIVING ALONG (IN TOWN) WHEN I NOTICED THE EDGE WAS IDLING REALLY LOW (NOTE: 2 WEEKS AFTER SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE, INSPECTION AND NEW BATTERY)-ALL OF A SUDDEN HEARD THIS TERRIBLE CLANKING NOISE. IT SOUNDED LIKE THE WHOLE CAR WAS FALLING APART. I PULLED OVER IN TO A PARKING LOT, SHUT THE CAR OFF. TRIED TO CRANK IT AGAIN AND IT WOULDN'T CRANK-FINALLY DID AFTER SEVERAL TRIES (STILL MAKING THIS TERRIBLE SOUND). **NO WARNING LIGHTS, NO FLUCTUATING IN GAGES---NOTHING. WE HAD THE EDGE TOWED TO OUR FORD DEALERSHIP AND WERE TOLD THE WATER PUMP WENT BAD AND THE ENGINE WAS DESTROYED. OUR OIL WAS FULL OF WATER/COOLANT--IT LOOKED LIKE MUDDY WATER. WHAT? HOW? NO WARNING, NO SIGNS? AFTER MUCH RESEARCH WE ARE FINDING THAT THE WATER PUMP IS INSIDE THE ENGINE, THEREFORE IF THE WATER PUMP "GOES" THERE ARE NO EXTERNAL SIGNS OF LEAKAGE---IT'S KINDLY LEAKING IN TO YOUR ENGINE AND DESTROYING IT. PLUS I HAVE BEEN PAYING FOR A RENTAL CAR BECAUSE THE DEALERS DON'T HAVE FREE LOANER VEHICLES. SO THIS WHOLE THING IS GOING TO COST ME ABOUT $2000. NOW I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, AND CAN CLEARLY TELL THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR INSTEAD IT IS A FAULTY PART THAT SO MANY OTHER OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING. I PULLED OFF TO THE SHOULDER TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE THEN BACK ON & IT DID FINE FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES THEN IT HAPPENED A 2ND TIME SO AGAIN I PULL OFF TO THE SHOULDER TURN OFF THE VEHICLE THEN BACK ON & IT IS FINE-ALMOST AS IF THE VEHICLE RESETS WHEN YOUR TURN IT OFF THEN BACK ON. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC, THE OWNER IS WHO USUALLY DIAGNOSIS MY CAR IS ON VACATION OUT OF THE COUNTRY--UGH. AFTER EXPLAINING THE INCIDENT ONE MECHANIC TEST DRIVES IT FOR A COUPLE MINS THEN SAYS THE TRANSMISSION IS NO GOOD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. CONSIDERING THIS VEHICLE IS GARAGED, & VERY WELL MAINTAINED ON A REGULAR BASIS I OPTED FOR A SECOND OPINION, ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE IS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS, ODOR, SMOKE, LEAKAGE OR ANYTHING THAT INDICATES SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSMISAION. I TOOK THE CAR INTO A FORD DEALER TO HAVE THE FUEL TANK RECALL COMPETED SINCE THEY FINALLY CAME IN AND THEY NOTICED A LEAK IN THE PTU AND THAT IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND WOULD COST OVER $1350 TO BE REPLACED AND INSTALLED. STILL DROVE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC WHICH STATED COIL BURNED OUT AND SENT SURGE OF POWER TO THE PCM. MECHANIC STATED DESIGN OF PCM WOULDN'T STOP THE FIRING OF COIL AND NOT TO DRIVE VEHICLE ANY FURTHER OR IT WILL BURN TO THE GROUND. MECHANIC STATED ONLY THE FORD DEALERSHIP CAN INSTALL A NEW ONE AND REST THE CAR TO GET IT RUNNING. TOWED VEHICLE TO FORD DEALERSHIP WHO STATED THEY HAVE A TSB ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THEY WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE PCM AND ALL 6 COILS BECAUSE THEY HAVE ALL MELTED. FORD DEALERSHIP STATED THIS WAS AN ON GOING PROBLEM DUE TO A FAULTY DESIGN OF THE PCM THAT WHEN A COIL BURNS OUT (COMMON WEAR AND TEAR AND $100 TO $200 FIX) THE PCM DOESN'T STOP FIRING TO THE COILS WHICH COULD CAUSE THE CAR TO CATCH FIRE. ESTIMATE TO FIX THE PCM AND ALL SIX COILS WAS $2,958. REASON FOR COMPLAINT - I UNDERSTAND WEAR AND TEAR ON A VEHICLE, BUT DUE TO A DESIGN ISSUE IN THE FORD/MERCURY/LINCOLN PCM, IT CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE AND REPAIR TO THE CAR AND POTENTIAL TO BURN TO THE GROUND. $100 FIX WITH PROPER DESIGN AND NOW $2,958 DUE TO PCM ISSUE. THERE IS A FORD TSB ON OTHER MODELS OF FORD WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. THIS CAN CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT AS THE CAR JUST STOPS ACCELERATING SO IT SLOWS DOWN QUICKLY. THE ONLY RESOLUTION IS TO SHUT IT OFF AND RESTART IT. THIS ALSO CLEARS THE CODE SO THAT'S WHY IT'S HARD TO TROUBLESHOOT AT THE DEALER. FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP AND DO SOMETHING BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. WHEN IT HAPPENED THERE WAS A SPUTTER FROM THE ENGINE, LIKE A HARD SHIFT, AND THEN I NOTICED THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND IT FELT LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO GET CHECKED BUT THE MECHANICS CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THERE ARE NO ERROR CODES THAT COME UP. MY RESEARCH ONLINE SAYS THAT IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE POWER TRANSFER UNITS SEALS LEAKING, BUT I WOULD THINK THAT PROBLEM WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO NOT WORK WHEN RESTARTED. NOT TO MENTION THE OTHER SYMPTOMS OF A LEAK, INCLUDING SMELL, ARE NOT PRESENT. THEY CAME UP WITH DIFFERENT THINGS, FINALLY I GOT TO THE RIGHT PLACE AND THEY FIGURED OUT THAT IT WAS THE PTU. THEY SAID THE SEAL HAD LEAKED ALL THE OIL OUT AND DESTROYED THE BEARINGS. YOU DON'T KNOW THE OIL IS LEAKING OUT AS IT GOES INTO THE EXHAUST AND EVAPORATES. THEY WERE ABLE TO FIND ME A USED ONE THAT THEY WENT THROUGH AND FOUND IT TO BE GOOD. COST WAS $1,800 TO REPLACE. AS I UNDERSTAND, FORD HAS COVERED UP THIS PROBLEM FOR MANY YEARS. I HAVE SEEN MANY SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN THE COMPLAINT SECTION FOR EDGES AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. I THINK FORD SHOULD BE MADE TO RE-IMBURST ALL COMPLAINTS WITH THIS PROBLEM. ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO MY 2007 FORD EDGE BEGAN TO LEAK A FLUID WHICH I THOUGHT MAY HAVE BEEN TRANSMISSION FLUID. ONCE I NOTICED THE LEAK I STOP DRIVING THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION HE INFORMED US THAT THE PTU WAS RUINED, WE HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FROM NEW AND SERVICED IT AS REQUIRED AND ONLY DRIVE IT ON THE HIGHWAY APPROX 45 MILES PER DAY. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE PTU (TRANSFER CASE) OVERALL HAS A ISSUE WITH THE SEALS THAT HOLD THE FLUID (OUTER SEAL=GEAR OIL, INNER SEAL= TRANNY FLUID) INSIDE THE UNIT, THE MECHANIC SAID THAT HE'S DONE SO MANY OF THE SEAL REPLACEMENTS THAT AT ONE POINT THAT WAS ALL HE WAS DOING IN A DAY AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE REAL ISSUE IS THAT WHEN THE SEAL GOES YOU CAN'T TELL BECAUSE IT LEAKS DIRECTLY ONTO THE EXHAUST AND BURNS OFF AS YOUR DRIVING. I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE AND NOTICED IT JERKING AND HESITATING TO ACCELERATE. THE ENGINE LIGHT BECAME BLINKING RAPIDLY AND I NOTICED A BURNING SMELL. WOULD NOT MOVE. E-MAILED LOCAL FORD DEALER TO LET THEM KNOW THAT ISSUE WAS HAPPENING ONCE AGAIN AFTER SENSORS WERE REPLACED. PRIOR TO FORD ALSO HAD SEARS LOOK AT VEH. WHERE THEY DETERMINED IT WAS A SENSOR BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE WHICH ONE. NOW THAT THE VEHICLE IS BACK TO ME IT ALSO SEEMS TO HAVE ALOT OF HESITATION ON WANTING TO GO. THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER SEEMED TO BE THE BEST TRANSMISSION AND I HAVE A BIG CONCERN ABOUT HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE. I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 FORD EDGE WITH 3 CHILDREN IN IT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST THE ABILITY TO NOT ONLY ACCELERATE BUT MY SPEED SUDDENLY FELL FROM 45 MILES AN HOUR TO 15 MILES AN HOUR WITHOUT ANY ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. THERE WAS SOMETHING SIGNIFICANTLY WRONG AND IT WAS PRETTY SCARY TO EXPERIENCE PARTICULARLY WITH 3 SMALL CHILDREN. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE COMPANY WHERE THE CAR'S SOFTWARE SYSTEM DISPLAYED CODES INDICATING TWO IGNITION CODES FAILED. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE SERVICE PROVIDER REPLACED ALL THE SPARK PLUGS AND TWO COILS. THE CAR WAS NOT FIXED AND IT WAS FURTHER DETERMINED THAT THE PCM BOARD IS SENDING EXTREMELY HIGH CURRENT TO THE IGNITION COILS AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ENGINE FIRE. THIS IS VERY DISTRESSING. FORD HAS ISSUED AN INTERNAL TSB ACKNOWLEDGING THIS ISSUE BUT HAS NOT ENACTED A RECALL. THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPLACE THE PCM, SPARK PLUGS AND COILS (6) IS APPROXIMATELY $3,000. PAID APPROXIMATELY $800 TO REPAIR. IN MAY 2014 SAME SMELL AGAIN, TOOK BACK TO THE DEALER WHO DID THE LAST REPAIR (6-27-14), PTU AGAIN, EXCEPT THIS TIME IT NEEDED SEALS PLUS A NEW PTU OVER $1,400 TO REPAIR. IT WAS DUE TO A BAD COIL WHICH WAS CAUSING THE SPARK PLUGS TO READ AT AN EXTREMELY HIGH VOLTAGE. THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE ALL COILS AND ALL SPARK PLUGS. THEN FOUND OUT THAT IT FRIED MY PCM(COMPUTER) WHICH ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED. COME TO FIND OUT, THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE WITH THE 2007 FORD EDGE AND THERE IS A TSB ON IT FOR THIS EXACT SITUATION. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE PCM HAD A MALFUNCTION WHICH CAUSED THE COILS/SPARK PLUGS TO GO BAD. THEY ALSO SAID THE PCM HAS A MANUFACTURER 8 YEAR/80,000 MILE WARRANTY. WELL I WAS AT 7 YEARS/83000 MILES AND WHEN THEY SUBMITTED THE WARRANTY CLAIM, FORD DENIED IT FORCING ME TO PAY $2400 FOR THE REPAIRS. I THINK THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO DENY A KNOWN MALFUNCTION FOR ONLY 3000 MILES OVER. WHAT IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY CAME TO A STOP? WE STARTED UP OUR CAR ON A SUNDAY MORNING, PUT IT IN REVERSE, BACKED OUT OF OUR SPOT, AND THEN PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND DETERMINED THAT THE PCU HAD OVERHEATED AND THE CYLINDER COILS MELTED. THEY ALSO SAID THE PCU IS NO LONGER OPERABLE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, ALONG WITH THE COILS AND PLUGS. GENERALLY, ENGINE MISFIRE INDICATES A TUNE-UP IS NEEDED; HOWEVER, IN THIS CASE, THE CAR NEEDS A BRAND-NEW COMPUTER. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED US AT 2,700 TOTAL FOR THE REPAIR. FURTHERMORE, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE CAR, AS DETERMINED BY FORD, AS IT ISSUED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 13-4-7, CITING THIS MODEL AND SEVERAL OTHERS AS PRONE TO THIS MALFUNCTION. AFTER SHIFTING TO DRIVE, THE CAR SOUNDED AS IF IT WAS IN HIGH GEAR, BUT IT WOULD REFUSE TO ACCELERATE TO A FAST SPEED. ONCE DRIVING, THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD NOT REGISTER SPEED, IT WOULD SIT AT 0 MPH. THE DIGITAL ODOMETER FAILED TO DISPLAY ANYTHING. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. I CALLED A DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS POSSIBLY A PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION AND THAT I SHOULD TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT ON AGAIN WHICH I DID. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED A SENSOR IT APPROXIMATELY, 1 YEAR AFTER THIS INCIDENCE, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING AROUND 55-60 MPH. I STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE. OTHER CARS WERE BEARING DOWN ON ME AS THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. FINALLY GOT THE CAR TO MOVE AND DROVE IT HOME, BUT EVERY LIGHT I GOT TO IT WAS HARDER TO ACCELERATE. FINALLY REACHED HOME, AND PUT IT IN REVERSE, IT FELT LIKE I HAD BEEN REAR ENDED BY A TRUCK. SO NEEDLESS TO SAY, FORD ONLY AUTHORIZED THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE SAME SENSOR. THEY THEN REPLACED IT AT NO CHARGE BECAUSE I WAS STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. FOR 8 MONTHS I WENT WITHOUT INCIDENT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2012, SAME PROBLEM ONLY WORSE, I MANAGED TO INCH MY WAY OFF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER A FEW DAYS I RECEIVED A CALL TELLING ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND WOULD COST 674.00 DOLLARS SINCE THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. SO, THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. NOW MY EDGE BEGAN HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM 1 MONTH AGO, WAS TOLD NOW IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION! PROBLEM IS WARRANTY EXPIRED 1 MONTH AGO. TIRED TO EXPLAIN HAD THE PROBLEM BEEN CORRECTED THE FIRST TIME, TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE STILL BEEN UNDER WARRANTY. 2007 FORD EDGE WILL ROLL BACKWARD WHEN ON THE SLIGHTEST INCLINE WHILE VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP ROLLING UNTIL THE BRAKE IS DEPRESSED OR IT SETTLES ON FLAT GROUND. IT ALSO DOES THIS IN REVERSE AND YOU ARE POINTED DOWNHILL. I RECYCLED THE IGNITION AGAIN AND PUT IT INTO REVERSE AGAIN CLUNKING VIOLENTLY. I AGAIN RECYCLED THE IGNITION AND PUT INTO REVERSE THE VEHICLE TRANS CLUNKED MOVING BACKWARDS. I THEN PULLED FORWARD SHIFTING TO DRIVE AGAIN WITH A CLUNK THE VEHICLE MOVED FORWARD AS IF STILL IN HIGHER GEARS. IT'S NOW OCTOBER 2009, AND I'M USING THE HEATER AGAIN. THE SMELL WAS BAD, SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AGAIN. THEY SAID GREASE WAS PACKED INTO THE VALVE, AND THE GREASE HAD OVERFLOWED. THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE PTU VALVE. THEY ONLY STEAM CLEANED MY CAR. IT STILL SMELLS, ALTHOUGH NOT AS BAD. I HAVE 35,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND I'VE OWNED IT FOR 1.5 YEARS BRAND NEW. THE INTERNET HAS REVEALED THAT MANY FORDEDGE OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING, BUT FORD CAN'T SEEM TO FIX IT. SIX MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD GRINDING SOUND WHEN HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE CORRODED. THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED AND THE ROTORS WERE CLEANED. THE FRONT AND REAR WINDOWS DO NOT GRIP OR SEAL PROPERLY WHEN THEY ARE ROLLED UP OR DOWN. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE WINDOW FAILURE ON FOUR OCCASIONS AND EVENTUALLY STATED THAT THEY HAD TO CHANGE THE PAPER ON THE ROLLERS. THE TWO REAR EXTERIOR LIGHTS CONTINUE TO FILL UP WITH WATER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE ON THREE OCCASIONS AND REPLACED THE TAIL LIGHTS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THERE SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN FAILURE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE GEAR SHIFT FAILED TO ENGAGE IN PARK, DRIVE, AND REVERSE. A PASSENGER HAD TO STOP TRAFFIC SINCE THE GEAR SHIFT WAS LOCKED IN REVERSE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON FEBRUARY 20, 2008; HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE EARLIEST THEY COULD SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WOULD BE ON MARCH 1, 2008. THE FAILURE OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY AND HAS BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP EVERY OTHER WEEK SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED. THE CONTACT IS THE ORIGINAL OWNER. THE DEALER HAS OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE IN REPLACING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO ONLY HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED BY A DEALER THAT IS ONE OR MORE HOURS AWAY FROM HER RESIDENCE. PURCHASED ON APRIL 01,2007 ABOUT 30 DAYS AFTER THAT ABOUT ONCE A WEEK AFTER SITTING ALL NIGHT UPON LEAVING THE HOUSE THE TRANSMISSION STARTS OUT SMOOTHLY BUT AS I STEP ON THE GAS THE TRANSMISSION HAS A SUDDEN SURGE AND MAKES A LOUD 'BANG" AND DOWN SHIFTS CAUSING A SUDDEN DOWN TURN IN SPEED. THEN IT JUST GOES AWAY AND IS FINE FOR SEVERAL DAYS . LATELY THIS OCCURRING MORE AND MORE(ABOUT EVERY FOUR DAYS AT THE MOMENT. UNUSUAL THING IS IT ONLY OCCURS IN THE MORNING START UP. WHEN I TOOK INTO THE DEALER THEY FOUND A NOTICE PUT OUT BY FORD STATING THAT CARS BUILT IN BETWEEN DECEMBER 15,2006 AND JANUARY 10,2007 HAVE A PROBLEM OF SHIFTING FROM FOUTH TO FIRST IN START UP. BUT FORD STATES THAT WITHOUT THE COMPUTER NOTING THIS ONE SPECIFIC CODE THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. I AM IN GREAT FEAR THAT IF THIS STARTS MORE OFTEN IN THE REGULAR DAYTIME DRIVING I WILL NEVER KNOW IF I CAN MODERATELY PICK UP SPEED ANYTIME OR WILL THE CAR DOWNSHIFT IN COMMON TRAFFIC AND THE POSSIBILITIES OF BEING STRUCK FROM BEHIND OR BROADSIDED. I OWN A 2007 FORD EDGE, PURCHASED IN MAY 2007. THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO "SHUDDER" WHEN UPSHIFTING OR DOWNSHIFTING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 35-55 MPH. IT IS APPARENT WHEN TAKING YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS TO SLOW AND THEN APPLYING GAS TO SPEED BACK UP. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE CHECKED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS PROBABLY "FLAT SPOTS" ON THE TIRES AND THE PROBLEN WOULD GO AWAY AFTER 3000 OR SO MILES TO GIVE THE TIRES AN OPPORTUNITY TO ROUND OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN A SECOND TIME AND TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP FOR THEIR TRANSMISSION MECHANIC TO LOOK AT. THEY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 10 HOURS AND COULDN'T SEEM TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR GET THE VEHICLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WE BROUGHT IT IN FOR. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 5600 MILES ON IT AND THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. I AM GOING TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED AGAIN. THIS TIME, I'M GOING TO DEMAND TO TAKE A DRIVE IN ANOTHER EDGE TO SEE IF IT HAS THE SAME SHIFTING PROBLEMS I AM CURRENTLY HAVING.
