The component that failed was my Break Booster and I almost wasn't able to stop. I took my vehicle to my local independent service center and they said I am lucky and that the Break Booster broke and it was just hanging on by a little bit and that is the only reason I was able to stop my vehicle. No warning lamps came on that it broke or was not functioning properly. It took longer to stop and almost caused an accident. The Mechanic informed me this should never happen and to report my issue. I have not had it inspected by any authority but it was inspected by my personal mechanic at their Independent Shop.

Problem with the computer for dash. Was worked on at Ford dealership in Lexington ky and had to borrow money with the lender that was already financing the vehicle for me for repairs. They was unable to repair it but still charged me almost 1,800.00.
My brakes on my car was not stopping when I was applying my brakes. I've taken good care of my car and I am the only owner of my edge. No warning signals-only 67k miles on my car. it happened several times within the last month. I took my car into Hansel Ford in Santa Rosa, CA where I bought my car in 2008. The brake booster needed replacing. It was a matter of life or death! So $1,000 later I had to pay. What? the same brake booster on 2011 edges were being replaced. This is a Ford defect problem. No one should drive a car that the brakes don't stop the car! RIGHT AFTER I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, I NOTICED THAT IT HAD A BAD JERK, AND CHUGGING IN THE TRANSMISSION. WITH THE OVERDRIVE "OFF", IT KEEPS THE RPM'S ABOVE 2000, AND PREVENTS IT FROM CHUGGING AND JERKING IN THE TRANSMISSION. WITH THE OVERDRIVE ON IT GEARS DOWN EXTREMELY LOW AFTER GOING DOWN TO 2000 RPM'S, AND LOSSES A LOT OF POWER. WHEN PRESSING DOWN THE GAS PEDAL, IT CHUGS AND JERKS SEVERELY. I HAVE TO LET OFF THE GAS AND THEN REAPPLY THE GAS TO STOP IT FROM JERKING. ALSO, THE POWER STEERING POPS AND MAKES NOISES. I GOT IN THE CAR TODAY AND HAD NO BRAKE POWER AT ALL. THEN HAD NO BRAKES UNLESS I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN WITH EXTREME FORCE. AND IT WAS STILL EXTREMELY HARD TO STOP MY VEHICLE. UPON SEARCHING ONLINE, I AM FINDING THAT THESE ARE VERY COMMON ISSUES WITH THE 2008 FORD EDGE VEHICLES. THERE SHOULD BE SOME TYPE OF RECALL ON THIS MODEL OF FORD EDGE WHEN THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, IN MY OPINION. I DID A SEARCH FOR MY VIN NUMBER AND IT SHOWS "NO" RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE. THE SAME MANUFACTURE DEFECTIVE ISSUE IN THE 2010 IS COVERED. GO FIGURE!. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING FASTER I WOULD HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO STOP TO AVOID A ACCIDENT.

I SEE THAT THIS IS A RECALL ON THE 2010 AND NEWER EDGE, WHICH USES THE SAME PART. I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD ALSO BE A RECALL IN THE EARLIER MODELS, AS IT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. IT WAS BRAKE BOOSTER PROBLEM ACCORDING TO THE TECH SERVICE. HE DROVE THE CAR AND FELT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE COMPROMISED BRAKE FUNCTION. HOWEVER DUE TO HIS TIGHT SCHEDULE, HE CANNOT FIT MY CAR INTO HIS REPAIR SERVICE. FORD ISSUE A RECALL 13N02 IN 2016 FOR BRAKE BOOSTER PROBLEM. HOWEVER IT ONLY COVERS CARS 2010-2013. THE REPLACEMENT PART FOR EITHER IS THE EXACT SAME, AS I VERIFIED WITH NUMEROUS SUPPLIERS. THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO COVER MORE YEARS, AS MY WIFE NOW DRIVES AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. FORD REDESIGNED THE EDGE FOR THE 2010 MODEL YEAR BUT USED THE EXACT SAME, NOW RECALLED COMPONENT. BRAKING IS DIFFICULT AT ALL SPEEDS, MUCH HARDER THAN THE DAYS BEFORE POWER BRAKES.

ALL REPAIRS SHOPS SAID THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN UNDER WARRANTY FOR UNDER 100,000 MILES AND LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD. COST TO REPAIR WAS OVER $650.00. A COUPLE YEARS AGO, EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAKING SYSTEM. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A ROAD AND COMING UP TO A LIGHT. UPON BRAKING, THE PEDDLE WAS VERY, VERY STIFF AND HARD TO DEPRESS, THE CAR SHUDDERED A BIT AND BRAKING SEEMED COMPROMISED...I ALMOST FELT LIKE THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP IN TIME TO AVOID SLIDING INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I USED AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE TO FINALLY GET THE CAR TO STOP. I WAS NEAR HOME AT THE TIME SO I CONTINUED THE LAST COUPLE MILES TO THE HOUSE, BEING CAREFUL TO DRIVE VERY CONSERVATIVELY AND TO ENGAGE THE BRAKE MUCH SOONER THAN USUAL TO MAKE CERTAIN I HAD ENOUGH ROOM TO STOP THE CAR. TOOK THE CAR THE NEXT DAY TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP...AFTER DIAGNOSIS I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKE POWER BOOSTER WAS AT FAULT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. REPAIR WAS APPROXIMATELY $580, IF MEMORY SERVES. I WAS UNHAPPY AT THE TIME OF COURSE BUT, UNTIL I RESEARCHED MY RECENT TRANSMISSION ISSUES, DID NOT REALIZE THAT THIS WAS YET ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT MANY OTHER EDGE OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED. I ALSO DID NOT REALIZE THAT I COULD REGISTER A COMPLAINT VIA NHTSA UNTIL RECENTLY OR I WOULD HAVE SUBMITTED THIS COMPLAINT WHEN THE BRAKE POWER BOOSTER REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. BUT AGAIN, LIKE THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES (NHTSA #10874656), IT SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT AFFECTS FORD EDGES TO AN INORDINATE DEGREE AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED BY NHTSA AS A POTENTIAL RECALL. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT FORD IS AWARE OF AND HAS OFFERED TO FIX THIS ISSUE ON NEWER MODELS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO ADDRESSED.

THEY ASKED EM TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE, GIVE THEM THE KEYS AND THAT THEY WOULD CHECK THE VEHICLE AND ASKED ME TO WAIT. ABOUT 90 MINUTES LATER THEY CAME OUT AND SAID ALL WAS FINE, NOTHING WRONG WITH BATTERY OR BRAKES. I LEFT AND DROVE VEHICLE HOME AND SAME PROBLEMS WERE OCCURRING, I RETURNED AND AFTER CALLING AND SAYING SAME THINGS WERE OCCURRING. I HAD HPED TO SPEAK TO [XXX], WHO WAS AN AMAZING SERVICE SUPERVISOR, BUT HE WAS NOT THERE AND ANOTHER MAN WHO WAS RUDE CLAIMED THE BATTERY WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT THAT IT WAS NORMAL TO HAVE OILY SLUDGE ON THE BATTERY . HE SAID IT WAS "NORMAL, BECAUSE IT WAS JUST SWEATING". HE REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING..SAID THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE AT 3 BEFORE FORD WOULD REPLACE THEM. I ASKED THAT HE CONTACT FORD CORPORATE AND INQUIRE. HE SAID, "NO HE WOULD NOT" THE BATTERY I SHOULD ADD SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPEATEDLY REPLACED. I HAVE LIMITED DRIVING THE VEHICLE, EXCEPT FOR SHORT LOCAL TRIPS, AND TONIGHT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND AAA CLAIMED THE BATTERY WAS DEFECTIVE AND CLEARLY DEAD. IT IS MOST DISTURBING WHEN FORD MISREPRESENTS THEIR WARRANTY AND REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE DEFECTS THAT HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED IN THEIR WON ALERTS. SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS! THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT I DON'T KNOW WHY ONLY THE 2010 TO 2013 MODELS HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE BRAKE BOOSTERS. THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO NOT HAVE ANY WARNING MY BRAKES ARE OUT. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED TO ME TWICE WITH BOTH MY SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. T HE SPEEDOMETER WENT TO 0, THE MAINTENANCE WRENCH DISPLAY LIT UP, ALONG WITH THE ERROR MESSAGE "TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR FAULT" (OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT) AND I WAS UNABLE AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP LIGHT TO ACCELERATE ALMOST CAUSING THE PERSON BEHIND ME TO REAR END ME. ONCE GETTING TO MY HOME WHEN PUTTING THE CAR INTO PARK IT MAKES A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE THEN PROCEEDS TO JERK THE ENTIRE VEHICLE. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR AN HOUR I TRIED TO TURN IT ONE ONCE AGAIN AND TEST DRIVING A FEW FEET FORWARD, IT ONLY MOVED AT A SLOW PACE WHEN GAS PEDAL APPLIED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING, THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD TO BE ENGAGED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE POWER BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

I WENT TO THE STORE AND PURCHASED THE BULB. WHEN I GOT HOME TO REPLACE IT I FOUND THAT I COULD NOT REMOVE THE BULB AS THE SOCKET HAS MELTED. AFTER NEARLY 6 YEARS I THOUGHT I WOULD CHANGE THE BRAKES.WIFE WAS HEARING A GRINDING NOISE. I THOUGHT WE WERE WE'LL OVERDO ON THEM ANYWAYS. WHEN I WENT TO CHANGE THEM I WAS INSPECTING THEM AND FOUND THE PASSENGER SIDE PADS WERE BARELY WORN THEY LOOKED ALMOST NEW. THE DRIVER SIDE OUTER PAD LOOKED THE SAME PRACTICALLY NEW THE INNER PAD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WAS WORN DOWN TO ABOUT 1/16 TO THE END OF THE PAD I FEEL THIS WARRANTS SOME KIND OF ACTION ON BEHALF OF FORD THANKS. *TR

BRAKES STARTED TO MAKE A SCRAPING SOUND. WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP WITHOUT SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES THROWING PASSENGERS FORWARD. IT APPEARED THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT DEPRESSING PROPERLY AND WERE PUMPED UP. WE HAPPENED TO HAVE A SCHEDULE ANNUAL INSPECTION WITH OUR MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED US THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER APPEARED TO BE THE ISSUE. WE TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONFIRMED THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED REPLACEMENT. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS, I NOTICED THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE 2007 FORD EDGE. SHOULDN'T THERE BE A RECALL? I HAVE OWNED FORD VEHICLES FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF A BRAKE BOOSTER ISSUE UNTIL NOW. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS AND IS QUITE EXPENSE TO REPLACE ($691.00). *TR

REAR CALIPERS DOES NOT RETRACT BRAKE PADS AND THERE IS A CONSTANT HOWLING NOISE. CAUSED THE WHEEL AND ROTOR TO BECOME OVER HEATED AND BRAKING WAS DIMINISHED. ALSO BRAKE PADS FIT INTO CALIPER TO TIGHT AND WILL NOT RETRACT WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED CAUSING BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS TO BECOME OVER HEATED AND CAUSE COMPONENTS TO BE GLAZED OVER AND DIMINISHING BRAKING DISTANCE. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WHICH FORD IS AWARE OF BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL OR REMEDY TO FIX IT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED A NEW POWER BOOSTER FOR THE BRAKES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
