There is a noise coming from the interior of my car, near the brakes that makes a high pitched noise and is causing the brake to feel a bit hard when pressed. It is believed that the brake booster has malfunctioned. There is a customer satisfaction program listed as 13N02 in regard to the extended warranty coverage for brake boosters. Is my vehicle eligible to be covered on this warranty?

My brake power booster needs replacing urgently. There is currently a recall for 2010 Ford Edge (2010-2014 Edge & MKX Vehicles specifically). My Edge however is not included. I do not understand why. The vehicle drove over the curb, crashed into two HVAC units located in front of the apartment building, and the vehicle stopped. The contact was in shock and unintentionally turned off the vehicle while the vehicle was in drive(D). The air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained whiplash and trauma. The contact received assistance from emergency units but refused to be taken to the hospital. A police report was filed. A mobile mechanic diagnosed that the brake booster had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the front grill of the vehicle was damaged due to the collision. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided and transferred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

Brake booster failed. This is an known problem with year and model. Ford says recall doesn't apply to vin.
Brake Booster is faulty. I was told this is a known problem for the Ford Edge. A faulty brake booster is dangerous if not fixed asap. The cost to fix is 900 dollars. Since this is a known issue with brake booster it really should be a recall item. IMO
I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 FORD EGDE, WHEN I NOTICED THAT IT WAS TAKING LONGER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ALSO, WHEN I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES, THERE WAS AN AIR SOUND. IT WAS LIKE IT WAS HISSING. I KNEW SOMEHTING WAS WRONG. I THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE I JUST HAD THE FRONT BRAKES REPLACED AND THAT THE MECHANIC MAY HAVE FORGOTTEN TO BLEED THE LINES OR THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LOW ON BRAKE FLUID. I WENT BACK TO THE MECHAINC AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT AGAIN. THEY FIGURED OUT THAT IT WAS THE BRAKE BOOSTER THAT WAS FAULTY AND THAT THE PART WAS INEXPENSIVE BUT THE LABOR WAS HIGH BECUASE OF THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT TAKES TO FIX IT. I WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND THERE WAS FOR CERTAIN 2010 FORD EDGES. WHEN I TYPED IN MY VIN, THE RECALL DID NOT COME UP. I CALLED FORD DIRECT TO SEE IF MY VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THEY SAID THAT MY VIN WAS NOT. NOW MIND YOU, THE VEHICLE IS 14 YEARS OLD, BUT IT ONLY HAD 107989 MILES ON IT. SO NEEDLESS TO SAY, I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO GET IT FIXED. IT COST 1255.26. THAT INCLUDED THE STOP LIGHT SWITCH THAT HAS TO BE REPLACED WHEN REPLACING THE BRAKE BOOSTER. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY ALL OF THE 2010 FORD EDGES WEREN'T RECALLED BECAUSE IT SEEMS THAT JUST ABOUT EVERY ONE THAT OWNS ONE WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THIS.

BRAKE FAIL'S DUE TO LEAK IN BRAKE BOOSTER, BRAKES STILL WORK BUT EXTREME PRESSURE ON PEDAL REQUIRED TO STOP CAR AND EXTRA TIME AND DISTANCE REQUIRED TO STOP OR SLOW CAR. CAR GARAGED ENTIRE LIFE AND ONLY JUST TURNED 100K ON ODOMETER. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THIS AND NO ACTION ON FORD'S PART TO CORRECT THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION. Power steering fluid leaking.Had hoses replaced,but problem still persist.No.2 Power brakes lost,pedal very hard. Very lucky ,not to hit car in front of me. Car is in shop,mechanic tells me it probablyneeds Power booster replaced. no warning signs.
Brakes not working right, feel spongy. Not sure if I would stop at stop signs or coming up behind other vehicles. Also heard a hissing sound when stepping on brakes. Took to Brakes Plus center and they determined it was the power brake booster and master cylinder and that the car should not be driven due to the severity of the problem. We called a Ford Dealership and validated my vin was not part of a recall and that the car had never had this issue fixed previously. The Brakes Plus employee found there was a recall for this exact issue, but as stated before, the vin was not part of this recall. I had to have the brakes fixed immediately to prevent harm to others or myself. I called a Ford Dealership to get an appointment, left a message, but still have not heard back from them so I had it fixed at Brakes Plus. The car never displayed any warning that I am aware of. Due to this being a known severe issue, I believe Ford should cover this issue regardless of the year, model or mileage of car. It seems to be a part that was used in many Ford vehicles and should have been a recall for any vehicle.
Component: Brake Booster The brakes became incredibly difficult to press making it very difficult to stop. This was extremely dangerous. Dealer said it was the brake booster which they replaced for over $1,000. There were no warning lamps or messages.

Brakes making air noise when pressed on
Car started having issues when trying to brake it was as if the pedal was harder to push and the car was slowing but hard to stop. Also a hissing noise from the brake booster area above where feet are on driverside as well as a high litch squeal once pressed down to a certain point. Its only been getting worse even after changing brakes and rotors. The vehicle just doesnt stop when pressures applied so i have to push pedal hard and while the car doesnt stop the brake sometimes seems to kick in and jerk to a stop but u have to apply alot of pressure to pedal and can hear a hissing noise the whole time using the breaks

Brakes are hard to push and they squeal, This is after several repairs. I have had front and rear pads and rotors replaced, replaced the power brake booster. Also I bought this car new and every time I am applying the brakes and turning the steering wheel to the left something underneath hits on the break and you can hear it and feel it.
When I attempt to brake, the brake is very stiff and hard to compress. It slows at a much slower rate than normal. Even when forcefully slamming on brakes it does not always engage. This has almost caused several accidents as I cannot brake normally. This is a safety issue for both me and other drivers on the road. It has not been inspected yet. I have done research and found many other internet complaints with the same issues, so I believe it it is the brake power booster.

The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount time. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact that she will be notified when parts are available. VIN tool confirms parts not available. Additionally, the contact stated that she heard a hissing noise when the brake pedal was depressed and without warning, more pressure had to be applied to the brake pedal to stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake booster and brake pads needed to be replaced. My brakes won't stop in everyday use correctly.the brake booster stopped working properly.
my brake booster is failing , it has all the symptoms stated in fords 13n02 bullitin about its failure. i called them today and they said they would not cover the repair .Even though its a known problem .
Brake booster has to be replaced which was being covered up until 2020 the mechanic told me so I liked to know why it's not covered now. I bought the vehicle in late December of ,2020 so I wouldn't have known and I got it from a dealership. The brakes don't work because of this known problem. So I have a $800 repair bill I'm hoping to get taken care like it should have when I bought it. Thanks for your time and help!

Braking was an issue so got new brake pads and rotors per mechanic rec. Braking continued to be a problem and after having another driver verify the brake pedal, took it into the mechanics again. They said it was due to the brake booster failure - leak. Which is why I couldn't really press down on the brake pedal and losing the ability to securely stop - even with new pads and rotors on all 4 wheels. Car is at the mechanics since it's not safe to drive with its unpredictable braking. Called Ford customer service but said that there was nothing that they can do since the extended warranty 13N02 – Extended Warranty Coverage on Brake Booster – 2010-2013 Ford Edge & Lincoln MKX is not attached to VIN - they recommended in filing a complaint to see if it can get added and covered under this warranty. Given the date of when this car was purchased (12/20) and with COVID shut downs - it was difficult to address the brake problem - especially given work and everything was shut down. No warranty letters were sent informing me about this potential failure of a critical component in driving. Looks like there are many complaints from other owners experiencing brake failure and even a class action lawsuit support for Ford warrantying instead of recalling. There are also recalls of newer Edge and MKZ for brake booster issues. NHTSA, please help!

Our local mechanic advised us that the power brake booster was inoperable and that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. He advised us to bring the vehicle to Ford for repair. He also advised us that the booster has a known defect and Ford had extended a warranty to ten years for this part. We were never notified by Ford that there was a known problem with diaphragm in the power brake booster. This was confirmed by the local Ford Dealer. The vehicle is schedule to be repaired at the Ford.dealer but we cannot bring the vehicle in for another2 weeks. The estimate just to repair this part is.$ 850.00 and does not include any other potential damage to the brake system. According to the local Ford dealer and the original dealership they advised me that the extended warranty has expired for the brake booster and that Ford will not approve extending that warranty. I also called Ford customer service asking if they would be responsible for this repair since this was a known defect on this vehicle. This defect is definitely a safety issue but Ford is refusing to approve the repair. They are claiming that they voluntarily extended their warranty for 10 years and would have made a repair under the warranty if there was an issue with the braking system during that time period. I replied that since they never advised anyone of this defect we were disadvantaged to take actions to trade in or sell the vehicle. During the covid lock down this vehicle was hardly used and if it was driven it probably would have required a repair while under this secret warranty. The vehicle only has 50,000 miles on it, Ford has issued a case# cas33813024p7f6v3 on this matter but will not cover the repair The vehicle has been taken off the road and will have to be towed to the Ford Dealership to avoid an accident. It is completely not roadworthy.
Brakes became incredibly soft. Could push brake pedal almost all the way to the floor with out slowing the vehicle. Had to leave roadway to avoid an accident. A hissing sound was heard when applying pressure to the brake pedal. This seems to be a know issue to Ford.
I needed increased effort to engage the brakes, totally lost all brake power when driving on a highway. Started out spongy and then it was like engaging a brick. Had to veer off the highway and almost caused a major accident. Brake pedal is hissing and spongy.

MY 2010 EDGE IS DEALING WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT, A WRENCH, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ALL COMING ON AND OFF WHENEVER IT FEELS LIKE (IN PARK OR IN ANY DRIVING CONDITION). I PURCHASED THE 2010 EDGE FROM MY MOTHER IN 12/ 2018 WHEN SHE PURCHASED AN ESCAPE. 1.5 YEARS LATER, IN MILE 99,800, I HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY BRAKES. I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT THE END OF THE STREET ONTO A MAJOR ROAD AT THE EXIT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD. GOING DOWN A HILL, I ALWAYS GO SLOWLY TO ALLOW MYSELF PROPER BRAKING TIME, AS IT IS A VERY STEEP HILL ONTO A MAJOR AND VERY BUSY ROAD. I EXPERIENCED A LACK OF BRAKES. I STOOD ON THEM AS HARD AS I COULD, AND IT BARELY SLOWED ME DOWN ENOUGH TO PREVENT ME FROM GOING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. AFTER I RECOVERED MY HEART RATE, I TURNED AROUND AND WENT HOME. I HAD THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY FIXED BY THE DEALERSHIP, WHO INFORMED ME THAT IT HAD A 10-YEAR 150,000-MILE SERVICE BULLETIN, AND IT IS NOT COVERED. FIRST, THE CAR IS 10 YEARS OLD. SECOND, IT WAS LESS THAN 100K MILES ON IT. ALSO, THE MILEAGE WAS LOW, DUE TO THE LITTLE MY PARENTS DROVE THE CAR. THE AVERAGE MILEAGE ON THE CAR CURRENTLY IS 10,000 A YEAR. BRAKE BOOSTER HAD A VACUUM LEAK. MY CAR WAS OUTSIDE THE EXISTING VIN LIST FOR RECALLS AND/OR "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM". VACUUM LEAK AND STIFF PEDAL WAS MOST EVIDENT AT LOW SPEEDS (NEAR IDLE AND AT HIGH VACUUM CONDITIONS) FORD WOULD NOT REPLACE MY BOOSTER. I REPLACED IT MYSELF AND FOUND THAT THE OEM BOOSTER HAD RUSTED, WHERE THE MASTER CYLINDER SEAL (SQUARE CROSS-SECTION O-RING) MET, CAUSING THE LEAK AND POOR BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS. MASTER CYLINDER WAS IN GOOD CONDITION, WITH NO APPARENT LEAK - INSIDE OF BOOSTER WAS DRY AND CLEAN. REPLACING BOTH THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE BOOSTER HAS CURED THE PROBLEM. PROBLEM WAS FIRST NOTICED WHEN PARKED - IF MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, MAINTAINING FORCE, WHEN I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF, THE VACUUM IMMEDIATELY BLED OFF OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER, CAUSING THE PEDAL TO RISE AND STIFFEN. INSPECTION OF THE BOOSTER PRIOR TO REPLACEMENT DID NOT GIVE ANY EVIDENCE OF AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM (THAT IS, NO HISSING OR LEAKING SOUNDS WERE PRESENT) THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE APPARENT OVER TIME (OVER THE PAST 18 MONTHS) AND GOT TO THE POINT WHERE I FELT THAT I DID NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT BRAKING POWER TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT LOWER SPEEDS - THUS, MY DECISION TO REPLACE THE BOOSTER AND MASTER CYLINDER. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE, WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW THE VEHICLE THE PEDAL WAS HARD, AND I HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKE VERY HARD TO SLOW THE VEHICLE, PINES FORD INFORM ME IT WAS THE BOOSTER AND THAT FORD HAD EXTENDED COVERAGE ON THAT PROBLEM ON 2010 EDGE BUT FOR SOME REASON ONLY KNOWN TO FORD OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED, AFTER RESEARCHING I LEARNED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL, MY QUESTION IS WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL. EXCEPT FOR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER FORD EDGE DRIVERS SAYING IT DID NOT GET FIX BECAUSE OF THE VIN NUMBER. I JUST WONDERING WHY IT IS NOT. MY POWER BOOSTER FOR BRAKES FAILED. THERE WAS A BULLETIN FOR MY MAKE AND MODEL HOWEVER FORD CLAIMED THAT BECAUSE IT WAS MADE AT ANOTHER PLANT IT DID NOT FIT THE CRITERIA. IT HAD THE SAME ISSUES AS THE VEHICLES MADE IN THE OTHER PLANT, I FAIL TO UNDERSTAND HOW THEY CAN COVER IT FROM ONE LOCATION AND NOT ANOTHER. THE CAR ONLY HAS 107K MILES AND IS 7 YEARS OLD. THEIR BULLETIN COVERED 150K MILES OR 10 YEARS MAKING ME BELIEVE SINCE WE CAME UNDER ALL OF THAT IT IS A DEFECT ISSUE.

THE BRAKES ON THE EDGE HAD AN AUDIBLE HISSING SOUND WHEN COMPRESSED BOTH WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK AND IN MOTION. IF THE BRAKES WERE PRESSED MULTIPLE TIMES IN SHORT ORDER (I.E. IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC) THE RESPONSE OF THE SYSTEM WOULD BE INCONSISTENT AS IT WAS SOMETIMES "SQUISHY" AND OTHER VERY HARD. THIS SEEMED TO AFFECT THE RESPONSIVENESS OF THE SYSTEM. UPON TAKING IT TO A MECHANIC, IT WAS REVEALED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS FAILING AND WOULD CONTINUE TO AFFECT THE BRAKING PERFORMANCE UNTIL REPLACED. AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH, FORD RECALL 13N02 WAS ISSUED FOR 2010 - 2013 EDGES FOR BRAKE BOOST FAILURE. FORD REJECTED MY CLAIM STATING THAT THIS VIN NUMBER WAS GOOD AND NOT PART OF THE ISSUE DESPITE THE FACT I HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS AFFECTING THE PERFORMANCE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND A PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC DIAGNOSED A FAILED BOOSTER AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO AFFECT MORE THAN THE VEHICLES NAMED IN THE RECALL AND IT IS A MATTER OF SAFETY WHEN YOU CANNOT TRUST THE PERFORMANCE AND RESPONSE OF A VEHICLE ESPECIALLY ON INTERSTATES WITH OTHER VEHICLES TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEED. THE ONLY FIX IS TO REPLACE THE BOOSTER WHICH WILL ALLOW THE BRAKE SYSTEM TO FUNCTION AS DESIGNED.

THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND WOULD NOT STOP PROPERLY FOR ME WHEN I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A STOP. IF THE PEDAL WAS HELD DOWN, A SQUEALING NOISE THEN OCCURRED. I RESEARCHED ONLINE TO SEE IF THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH OTHER FORD EDGE OWNERS, AND I CAME ACROSS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT FORD RELEASED IN 2014 TITLED, "13N02." THE EXTENDED WARRANTY TALKED ABOUT AN ISSUE THAT HAD BEEN OCCURRING IN FORD EDGE MODELS MADE BETWEEN 2010-2013. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES WAS SPOT ON WITH WHAT I HAD JUST EXPERIENCED WITH MY VEHICLE AND I MET THE PROGRAM TERMS DUE TO MY CAR BEING LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD AND UNDER 150,000 MILES. I IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE MY CAR REPAIRED. TO MY SURPRISE, THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED BASED ON MY VIN NUMBER. WE THEN QUICKLY DISCOVERED IT WAS DUE TO MY CAR BEING BUILT FIVE DAYS PRIOR TO THE INCLUDED DATE ON THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE WARRANTY COVERED VEHICLES FROM MAY 3, 2010-MARCH 28, 2013. MY VEHICLE WAS MADE ON APRIL 28, 2010. THE STAFF AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS EITHER. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE DATES ON THE WARRANTY SHOULD BE ADJUSTED. I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE MY BRAKE BOOSTER REPLACED FOR THE SAME SERVICE OTHERS WERE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THANKFULLY NONE OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD CHILDREN WERE OUT PLAYING OR THIS SITUATION COULD'VE ENDED HORRIBLY. THI ISSUE OCCURRED SUDDENLY AND NOT GRADUALLY. MY DEALER SAYS IT'S THE BRAKE BOOSTER. SEEING HOW DANGEROUS THIS SITUATION IS AND HOW SUDDENLY IT OCCURRED I STARTED TO RESEARCH THE ISSUE. I FOUND CSP13N02 AND MY CAR FITS ALL THE CRITERIA (BUILD DATE, OAKVILLE, ONTARIO FACTORY...ETC.). I CONTACTED MY DEALER AND THEY SAID MY CAR WASN'T SHOWING UP ON THEIR SYSTEM AS COVERED AND TO TRY TO CONTACT FORD. THEN I CONTACTED FORD REGARDING THE ISSUE AND THEY TOLD ME TO CONTACT MY DEALER WITH A CASE NUMBER. ARE YOU KIDDING MY RIGHT NOW???? THIS IS ABSURD. I WILL PAY THE $700 TO FIX THE PROBLEM SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE VALUE I HAVE FOR MY FAMILY'S SAFETY AND ON THE SAFETY OF MY NEIGHBORS. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT FORD HAD JUST RELEASED A NEW EXTENDED WARRANTY AND FREE REPAIR FOR THIS PROBLEM CONCERNING THE BRAKE BOOSTER, A TEAR, AND BEGINNING WITH FORD EDGE'S BUILT IN 2010. WHEN MY VIN WAS CHECKED, I WAS THEN TOLD MY CAR DID NOT FALL WITHIN THE DATES FOR THE PROGRAM. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED ON APRIL 27 2010 AND THE PROGRAM BEGINS FOR CARS MANUFACTURED ON MAY 3, 2010. WHEN MY DEALER CALLED FORD HE WAS TOLD THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE; MY CAR HAD MISSED THE DATE BY 6 DAYS. POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND MY AUTO INSURANCE FIXED THE 3 CARS INVOLVED. I WAS SCARED I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE THAT DAY. SINCE THIS TIME I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE FORD COMPANY BUT THEY'RE NOT TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILITY ON THE MATTER. I THEN WENT ON THE INTERNET TO RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM. FOUND OUT THAT THERE ARE LOTS AND LOT OF COMPLAIN ON THIS ACCELERATING PROBLEM WITH FORD EDGE 2010. YET FORD CLAIMED THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE MODEL. WHEN IS FORD GOING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND FIX THE PROBLEM. ARE THEY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET KILLED BEFORE ATAKING CARE OF THIS SITUATION. PLEASE HELP US. YOU ARE THE LAST HOPE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED NUMEROUS TIMES TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED NUMEROUS TIMES WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED, WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE STALLING FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED.THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE APPROXIMATE MILEAGE WAS 200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,000.

THE CONTACT THEN CRASHED INTO A MAIL BOX. THE BRAKE WARNING LAMP THEN BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE SPORADICALLY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SENSOR CIRCUIT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
