My 2011 Ford Edge stalled on the freeway March 1st 2025. I had purchased the car in 2019, and kept up with regular maintenance. My mechanic tells me its an issue with the "water pump" thats is connected to the timing belt, and that the engine has been flooded? Now I need to replace my engine! I looked into it and it turns out THOUSANDS of others have gone through this too. Someone needs to have this car/engine PULLED off the market. When I purchased it, it was supposed to be a reliable car for my family, now I dont know what I'm going to do because Ford just doesn't care about their customers.

There were three recalls listed on your site that are no longer active which perfectly describe what is going on with my car at the moment we have had major electrical problems with it we have had problems with the tailgate not latching and opening while driving down the road also overheating when stopped at a light all of a sudden the air conditioner starts blowing hot air and it shoots up and overheats while you're idling out of traffic light the electrical system is totally messed up I can't even begin to list everything that has gone wrong with that the lights being turned on when we're not in the car to the no key in car actually going down the road it shut down no key and we were able to get it back on again but for a minute I thought that the car was going to stop moving it seems that this model car has had these issues in the past that recalls have been put out for but nothing is active for it right now and we're experiencing what was going on in those recalls I would appreciate it if you could look into this for me my daughter drives his car to school and she has been stranded several times I don't feel that it's safe for her to drive in this condition please let me know if there's anything you can do to reinstate any of these recalls to Goodwill type extension of these recalls I don't know what to do at this point because all of this is very expensive to fix I am [XXX] she is a student I just want her to be able to drive a car that she's not going to get hurt in or be stranded someplace thank you for taking the time to look at this and I will hope to hear from you again my email is [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Power steering leak(took it 3times to get it serviced), breaks(leak), transmission fluid leak(have to refill transmission fluid every week), electrical (dash board lights go off and on sometimes and do other funny stuff), back up My camera doesn’t work(car has blind spots so I need the camera to work), roof windows (work when they want), trunk door (closes by itself hitting me at closing). Check lights, tire light is on constantly and on since I bought the car, also oil light but now only sometimes since I keep putting oil and transmission fluid. And has something missing on the front windshield and sensor device of some sort And sometimes when I break I feel the vehicle wanting to go faster instead of stopping. Jerks. I took my vehicle to ford and they pretty much ignored me making me there was no solution. No reports or anything. I called several times to take my car to get serviced telling them I felt unsafe but they pretended they couldn’t here me they didn’t want to deal with me cause my vehicle was too old 2011 ford edge limited. I don’t think it’s old I need a little guidance here before I take it to the next step. Please help me fix my vehicle my insurance at the time told me it has two recalls and ford shined me off three or four times telling me no instead of helping

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that when the vehicle was in park, the engine idled roughly and at times lost motive power. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with bank #1 and bank #2 oxygen sensor failures. The contact was informed that bank #1 and #2 oxygen sensors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic where all four oxygen sensors were replaced but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle was lost motive power. The contact stated that while approaching a freeway exit and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal was very firm, and the vehicle failed to stop as needed. The contact stated that while the vehicle was stalling, she was able to stop the vehicle. When the contact attempted to restart the vehicle, the check brakes and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle failed to start up and was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the mechanic determined that the brake booster had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.

While driving on a very the busy S-R9 route that I drive daily, my car started to lug, so I had to break really fast, and pull over so I would not get hit from behind, I consider myself lucky I was not on the busy I-15 freeway, because there is alot of construction and I would not of been able to pull over anywhere, and that could have caused major issues. I was able to pull over and go up the street to a Chevron gas station, I pulled up to the gas pumps, to check things out and to get gas, as I was low on fuel. As soon as I stopped, the car would not start up at again, I got out to check the oil, coolant and the battery to see what the issue was, As I checked the oil it was creamy looking, I opened up the oil cap and it there was a white creamy film, I knew automatically the coolant has drained into my engine causing it to seize up. I have Always taken very good care of the car and was always consistent with having all maintenance done when needed. As I have researched, I have read the same issues have happened with other owners with a Ford Edge. I had to have my car towed that day by Get Hooked towing. I feel as there have been the same issues with other Ford Edge engines, it should be listed as a recall as the water pump obviously failed and dumped coolant into the engine causing it to seize. I feel this engine should be replaced by the FORD company. The contact is requesting that an investigation into this matter thoroughly and consider potential remedies for the affected vehicles.

2011 Ford Edge Sport has had several issues with cylinder misfires. Check engine light will come on and rough idle and ride occurs. It will be different cylinders. The first time it was Cylinder 6 and the issue ended up shorting the computer. We replaced the computer, all the ignition coils and all spark plugs. Wiring checked out fine. Dealer certified car was good to go. Within 6 months it happened again. We replaced the spark plugs again. The issue went away. 6 months later, it’s back again. Seems to almost be seasonal when it starts to get cold. I have spent over $3,000 on repairs. Very frustrating. This vehicle has less than 80,000 miles.

My 2011 Ford Edge Limited has been well taken care of March 25, 2023 I was driving down I80 in Nebraska at 75-80mph and without any warning my vehicle proceeded to "stop" it started dinging I had zero power which almost caused an accident on the interstate. I had my 2 young children with me! I pulled over I could see some steam and smoke coming from engine I had to call a tow truck had it taken back to North Platte to Buds Repair shop my engine had catastrophic failure due to a faulty water pump which is currently being investigated with the newer ecoboost models this is a common issue with Ford from 2008 all the way now to 2023! I would like the investigation to be widened further to include models from 2008 and newer!!!

Eternal water pump failure. Water pump came loose while Driving dumped coolant into engine causing engine to have catastrophic failure. Need a full engine replacement. Took vehicle to 2 mechanics for diagnosis. Both states vehicle has coolant in engine. Engine needs replaced I'm uploading an estimate from a certified FORD dealership after I told them the issue over the phone.

March 24th 2023 I left the town where I live with a perfectly running vehicle made it an hour away from where I live I heard a winding sound and my car would not accelerate on the interstate then the low oil pressure warning came on I was able to pull over after almost getting rear ended by another vehicle to smoke coming from under my hood. I was able to get a tow truck to come get myself and 2 young children off the interstate safely... I had my vehicle towed back to where I live to a mechanic shop to find out this is a common issue with FORD that the enteral water pump came loose which leaked coolant into my oil which made my engine seize and blew my engine.

I am writing to you today to make you aware of a situation that occurred with my 2011 Ford Edge. On June 14, 2022 my husband and I embarked on a trip to Maine. Halfway through the trip our check engine light came on and heating warnings went off - we immediately pulled over and had the car towed to the nearest mechanic. He diagnosed our water pump was leaking causing the engine and oil to fill with coolant. This caused coolant to flood the engine and cause it to seize. We were on the Mass Turnpike and couldn't go anywhere except to the side of the road. It was an extremely busy road and very dangerous. We towed the car to our mechanic at home and he agreed with the diagnosis and found that there would be no way to save our engine. He believed that the car was in good condition otherwise and it would be beneficial to replace the engine to extend the life of the vehicle. We have always kept up with routine maintenance of our vehicles, including my Ford Edge. Therefore we ended up replacing our entire engine and radiator that was damaged from the failed water pump. I sent a letter to Ford requesting assistance in replacing this engine and I was recommended by the customer service agent to file this report with you.

The Water Pump in my 2011 Ford Edge failed causing catastrophic engine failure. The failure occurred while I was driving on the highway and I lost my power steering and brakes. The engine was inspected at a private service center where I was told that the water pump had caused the engine to seize and the vehicle would need a new engine. Prior to the failure, there were no warning messages or symptoms.

Vehicle stahls about 50% time in reverse when parking mainly, and in forward when parking. Very scary and I have only had this vehicle for 1.5 months. Repairs have been made according to CEL codes; however, the stalling does not report the code, so it occurs over and over. Very scared this will happen and cause an accident. Based on numerous forums who had the same car and instance - it is the throttle body.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ENGINE REMAINED RUNNING HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE ROLLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND LUNGED FORWARD BEFORE THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SARASOTA FORD (707 S. WASHINGTON BLVD, SARASOTA, FL 34236, (888) 349-4989) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE REMAINED UNREPAIRED AT THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.

THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SUDDENLY WENT FROM NORMAL TO HIGH. I NOTICED IT AND WAS ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY TURN THE CAR OFF. NO ALARMS OR ALERTS WENT OFF ON THE CAR AT ALL. WHEN WE LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR WE NOTICED THAT THE ANTIFREEZE WAS LEAKING. MY HUSBAND ADDED MORE TO IT AND WE LEFT THE CAR THERE UNTIL WE COULD FIGURE OUT WHICH MECHANIC WOULD BE ABLE TO REPAIR THE WATER PUMP. THE LOCAL MECHANICS WE SPOKE TO WERE NOT COMFORTABLE DOING THIS REPAIR DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF LABOR REQUIRED FOR THIS VEHICLE. WE HAD THE FORD EDGE TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THE WATER PUMP ENDED UP LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE WHICH THE DEALERSHIP SAID WAS CATASTROPHIC. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD, INSTEAD OF IN THE PARKING LOT, IT COULD HAVE SEIZED THE ENGINE. IT HAPPENED INSTANTANEOUSLY AND WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS OR ALARMS. THE FORD TECHNICIANS SAID IT MAY HAVE BEEN LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE FOR SEVERAL DAYS WITHOUT WARNING. THIS IS A SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS ISSUE AS WELL AS A COSTLY ONE. A WATER PUMP SHOULD BE A SIMPLE REPAIR OR PROBLEM, HOWEVER THE WAY THAT IT HAPPENED CAUSED ENGINE FAILURE. IT NOW REQUIRES AN ENTIRE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THE CAR NO LONGER FUNCTIONS OR OPERATES IN ANY CAPACITY. I WAS STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT SO I WAS FORTUNATE. I HAD JUST PULLED INTO THE PARKING SPACE AND WAS THERE ABOUT ONE MINUTE - LITERALLY. THE REPAIR FEES FOR THE WATER PUMP WERE PRICED AT $3,000. THE REPAIR FEES FOR THE USED ENGINE REPLACEMENT ARE $4,000-5,000. THIS IS A POOR VEHICLE DESIGN AND A SAFETY CONCERN FOR FORD.

ELECTRONICS SEEMED TO SPUTTER OFF, THEN BACK ON FOR A FEW SECONDS, THEN OFF AGAIN, BUT THE VEHICLE SHUT COMPLETELY OFF MID HIGHWAY DRIVING WITH NO ABILITY TO STEER, ACCELERATE OR DECELERATE. ENDED UP AT A COMPLETE STOP ON THE HIGHWAY WITH NOTHING WORKING TO POWER THE VEHICLE BACK ON. HEATER SEEMED TO CONTINUE TO WORK, BUT NOTHING AS FAR AS THE ENGINE OR DASH, NO ELECTRONICS. CONTINUED TO TRY TO START THE VEHICLE OVER AND OVER AS ONCOMING VEHICLES SWERVED AROUND ME AT 60 TO 70 MPH. DIALED 911 AND HAD TO WAIT 15 MINUTES BEFORE A POLICE CAR PARKED BEHIND THE FORD EDGE WITH FLASHERS ON. LITERALLY NO WARNING, NO WARNING LIGHTS, NO NOTHING. VEHICLE SIMPLY LOST POWER... COMPLETELY TURNED OFF. THIS WAS HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE MOST FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCES FOR MY DAUGHTER WHO WAS DRIVING AT THE TIME. SHE'LL LIKELY NOT GET BACK INTO THAT VEHICLE.

I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK ON A COUNTRY ROAD. THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND WOULDN'T GAIN MUCH SPEED. I WAS TRYING TO GET IT PARKED IN AT LEAST A DRIVEWAY OR PLACE TO SIT SAFELY IN CASE SOMETHING HAPPENED. THERE WERE CARS BEHIND ME , THE CAR STARTED SMOKING REALLY BAD FROM THE HOOD. BEFORE I HAD TIME TO GET SOMEWHERE SAFELY, THE CAR SHUT OFF AND STARTED GOING IN REVERSE. I HAD TO SLAM ON MY EMERGENCY BREAK AND WAS STUCK THERE UNTIL I HAD HELP FROM A TOW TRUCK TO TOW IT. THE CAR WOULDN'T TURN ON OR MOVE SO I WAS STUCK ON THIS HILL AND HAD PEOPLE FROM THEIR HOUSE GUIDE TRAFFIC UNTIL HELL CAME. THE CAR DIDN'T GIVE ME ANY WARNINGS OR ISSUES PRIOR TO THIS AT ALL. I HAVEN'T HAD THE VEHICLE FOR MORE THAN 2 YEARS AND HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN CARE OF EVERYTHING AND HAVE KEPT UP ON THE MAINTENANCE OF IT. THE ENGINE IS BLOWN AND WAS TOLD THE ANTIFREEZE LEAKED INTO THE OIL DUE TO THE ENGINE BLOWING. I HAVE STILL BEEN MAKING MY MONTHLY PAYMENT ON THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN CARLESS FOR MONTHS NOW AND WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE FORD TAKING THE ACTION INTO DOING WHAT'S RIGHT FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT KEEP THEM GOING IN BUSINESS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS VEHICLE AND AM SEEING A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE.

THE SUV GAVE ME A BLINKING ENGINE LIGHT. DECODING TO A MISFIRE PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME I HAD THE CAR LOOKED AT THEY REPLACED THE COIL PACKS. ABOUT 10,000 MILES LATER I GOT THE SAME MISFIRE PROBLEM. SOME OF THE COIL PACKS WERE MELTED. I HAD THE SUV TOWED TO A GARAGE AND THEY SAID THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE IS DEFECTIVE. THEY REPLACED THE CONTROL MODULE FOR $1500.00. YIKES. DEALER TOLD ME THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY KNOWS THE ECM IS DEFECTIVE BUT WON'T RECALL SO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR SCREW UP. WANT A REFUND FROM FORD.

I WAS DRIVING MY FORD EDGE ON ROUTE 303 IN PHOENIX AT ABOUT 60 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY STARTED SHAKING AND LOSING POWER. IT ALLOWED ME TO DRIVE A VERY SHORT DISTANCE UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR, IN A TURN LANE WITH A TRACTOR TRAILER ON MY TAIL ...VERY DISCONCERTING! A YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT WAS SHOWING ALONG WITH SOME NOTICE ABOUT MY TRACTION BEING OFF, I BELIEVE. AFTER SITTING A FEW MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT OFF THE TURN LANE AND INTO A FAIRLY SAFE LANE AHEAD. FORTUNATELY A POLICEMAN PULLED UP BEHIND ME AND I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND CALLED AAA FOR A TOW. 20 MINUTES LATER, I TURNED ON THE ENGINE WHICH NOW SEEMED FINE SO THE POLICEMAN SUGGESTED THAT I PULL FORWARD INTO A SAFER AREA. AFTER DOING SOTHEBY'S CAR SEEMED FINE AGAIN SO I DROVE IT TO MY DAUGHTER'S HOUSE SEVERAL MILES AWAY AND CANCELLED THE TOW. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ON LINE SINCE AND THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY EDGE OWNERS WHO HAVE FEARED FOR THEIR LIVES WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO THEM. SOME SAY CLEANING OR REPLACING THE THROTTLE PLATE SEEMED TO WORK BUT OTHERS HAVE FOUND THAT THE DEALERS INSIST NOTHING IS WRONG AFTER TESTING IT.... IT SEEMS TO HAVE HAPPENED TOO MANY TIMES FOR NOTHING TO BE DONE.... I THINK A RECALL IS IN ORDER SO THAT THE DEALERSHIPS CAN FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE, IF THAT HASN'T ALREADY ACCUR. I HAVE A 2011 FORD EDGE.

UNIT HAS BEEN FOR THE LAST 1 MONTH AT THE AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER AND NOW THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME THE CATALYTIC. ALMOST +2K IN BILLS.

1) 91K ON MOTOR, THE INTERNAL WATER PUMP FAILED CAUSING MOTOR TO FAIL AND MUST BE REPLACED. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND COASTED TO SHOULDER WITH NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. 2) DOOR AJAR LIGHT REMAINS ON, AND HAD TO REPLACE SWITCH AT 50K BECAUSE THE BATTERY WOULD DRAIN.

WATER PUMP BROKE WHILE ON HIGHWAY. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF FAILURE LEADING UP TO IT. CAR GAVE A WARNING OF LOW OIL PRESSURE, THEN MAYBE 20 SECONDS LATER THE ENGINE COOLANT OVER TEMPERATURE WARNING COMES ON. CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING AT THIS POINT, GOT TO SHOULDER OF HIGHWAY AND AT THIS POINT, POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WERE OUT. ENGINE WAS SMOKING. HAD IT TOWED BACK TO DEALERSHIP 89 MILES AWAY TO LEARN THE WATER PUMP BROKE CAUSING CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AND DAMAGE. ESTIMATE TO REBUILD ENGINE WAS $ 7352.00 PLUS TAX. THERE WAS NO WARNING OR POSSIBLE WAY TO CHECK THE WATER PUMP BEFORE HAND. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2011 AND HAD IT PAID OFF A COUPLE YEARS AGO. NOW ALL EQUITY IN THE CAR IS COMPLETELY GONE AS THE CAR WAS ONLY WORTH 6-8K (ACCORDING TO TRUECAR) AND IT WOULD COST MORE TO FIX IT THAN TO PURCHASE A NEW ONE. A ENGINE SWAP WAS ESTIMATED AT AROUND $4,000 WITH LABOR INCLUDED AS WELL. AFTER THIS HAPPENED I FIND OUT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE THIS IS HAPPENING TO, AND THAT IT'S A MAJOR ISSUE THAT FORD HAS APPARENTLY TRIED TO KEEP QUIET. I HOPE THIS IS AN ADDITIONAL PIECE OF AMMUNITION TO USE IN THE CASE AGAINST FORD.

FIRST OF ALL THE FIRST PROBLEM I ENCOUNTERED WITH MY VEHICLE WAS THE PASSENGER WHEEL BARRING WAS DEFECTED AND STARTED MAKING A BAD NOISE SO TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND THE MECHANIC SAID LUCKY I DID BECAUSE IS WAS ABOUT TO BREAK AND CAUSE MY WHEEL TO COME OFF GOING DOWN THE ROAD. AFTER THAT I NOTICED THAT MY ENGINE WOULD RUN HOT IF I SAT STILL IN THE PARKING LOT JUST RUNNING EVEN WITH THE AC OFF. I HAD NO WARNING THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG. I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND IT DIDN'T SEEM TO DO IT ANYMORE UNTIL WE STARTED GETTING THIS REALLY HOT WEATHER THIS MAY, ME AND MY FAMILY WAS GOING IN TO TOWN TO GRAB A BITE TO EAT WHEN (WITHOUT ANY WARNING) MY CAR STARTS SPUTTERING AS IF I PUT BAD GAS IN IT. MY HUSBAND INSTRUCTED ME TO PULL OVER AND TAKE A LOOK AND LOW AND BEHOLD MY CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING HOT JUST AFTER DRIVING ONLY 10 MINUTES. HE PULLED THE DIPSTICK AND OIL IS MILKY AND OIL WAS ALL IN THE WATER RESIVOUR. MY CAR HAD OVER HEATED WITHOUT ANY WARNING THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG AND BLOWN HEAT GASKET AND CRACKED HEADS. MY ENGINE SHOT. WE TOOK IT TO THE SHOP WHERE I HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW ENGINE AND AFTER THE MECHANIC RAN A DIAGNOSTICS TEST ON MY CAR HE SAID THAT THE FAN CONTROL MODULE WAS FAULTY WHICH DID NOT ALLOW MY COOLING FANS TO COME ON AT ALL AND MY SYSTEM NEVER ALERTED ME EITHER. WE REPLACED COOLING FANS ALONG WITH MODULE. EVERYTHING SEEMS FINE AFTER 2,000 DOLLARS LATER. FYI NEVER RELY ON YOUR INFORMATION SCREEN TO TELL YOU IF YOUR RUNNING HOT, GO TO SETTINGS AND KEEP YOUR SCREEN ON THE TEMP GAUGE AT ALL TIMES SO YOU WILL KNOW FOR YOURSELF HOW COOL YOUR ENGINE IS RUNNING. I WOULD BE NICE AFTER ALL THE COMPLAINTS FORD HAS RECEIVED ABOUT THESE PIECE OF CRAP COOLING FANS THAT THEY WILL JUST SUCK IT UP AND DO THE RECALL. WE ARE HARD WORKING AMERICANS AND DONT DESERVE THIS CRAP. WE SUPPORT FORD AN AMERICAN CAR MANUFACTURER AND EXPECT THE SAME RESPECT!!

TUESDAY NIGHT 1/22/2019, MY DAUGHTER DESCRIBED THAT HER CAR HAD LOST ALL POWER WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING DOWN A SMALL MOSTLY DESERTED STREET IN OUR TOWN WHEN SHE BRAKED AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN. SHE HAD AN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TIME BRAKING AND TURNING THE CAR TO GET OFF OF THE ROADWAY. SO, THAT SAME EVENING, I DECIDED TO SEE IF IT HAPPENED TO ME. IT WAS NOTED THAT SHE HAD JUST OVER A QUARTER TANK OF GAS SO I THOUGHT MAYBE HER GAS GAUGE WAS WRONG SO I FILLED THE CAR. WE DROVE AROUND 6 MILES WHEN IT DID HAPPEN TO ME AS I BRAKED AND ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLES HEADED MY WAY WERE QUITE A BIT DOWN THE STREET, AND I ALLOWED MYSELF AMPLE TIME TO GET ACROSS WERE THIS TO HAPPEN. HOWEVER, THIS WAS AT NIGHT WHEN THAT STREET ISN'T BUSY. WE LIVE OFF OF THIS STREET SO AVOIDING DURING THE DAY ISN'T AN OPTION. DURING THE DAY WHEN TRAFFIC IS BUSY AND CONSTANT, THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO ALLOW THAT MUCH TIME TO GET ACROSS SAFELY. IN THE MONTHS LEADING UP TO THESE POWER FAILURES, THERE WERE AT LEAST THREE INSTANCES WHERE WE WERE IN A DRIVE THRU OR STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT WHERE POWER WOULD BE LOST, BUT NEVER WHEN THE CAR WAS ACTUALLY IN MOTION AS HAPPENED TWICE ON 1/22/2019. I FOUND A FORUM WHERE THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED MANY TIMES NOT ONLY TO FORD, BUT TO THE NHTSA AND NOTHING BY WAY OF A RECALL HAS BEEN CALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM AND IT APPEARS THAT SOMEONE WILL BE KILLED PRIOR TO SOMETHING BEING DONE. I'VE READ THAT THE THROTTLE BODY SEEMS TO BE THE ISSUE HERE AND THAT FORD HAS DENIED A PROBLEM SAYING THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM WHEN PEOPLE TAKE THESE CARS TO THE DEALERSHIPS. THE EVIDENCE IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET WHERE PEOPLE DESCRIBE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THIS CAR WILL ONLY BE DRIVEN AS NEEDED AND ABSOLUTELY IS NOT ALLOWED ONTO THE HIGHWAY. PLEASE HELP RESOLVE THIS KNOWN PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED.

ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 28, 2018, OUR 2011 FORD EDGE LIMITED LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND BEGAN DECELERATING ON A FREEWAY WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT 60 MPH. MY HUSBAND HAD TO "COAST" OFF THE FREEWAY AND CAME TO A DEAD STOP WITHOUT ANY WARNING (E.G. NO CHECK ENGINE OR OTHER LIGHTS TURNED ON) IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION, AT WHICH TIME THE ENGINE BEGAN SMOKING. MANY HOURS LATER WE WERE INFORMED BY A SERVICE TECHNICIAN AT OUR CLOSEST FORD DEALERSHIP, THE THE INTERNAL WATER PUMP HAD FAILED AND FLOODED THE ENGINE WITH COOLANT AND OIL. HE STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WE DID TO CAUSE IT AND NOTHING COULD HAVE PREVENTED IT BECAUSE IT WAS DUE TO A "POOR DESIGN" BY FORD. HE STATED HE HAD SEEN THIS SEVERAL TIMES AND THAT OUR ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED (AT A COST OF ALMOST $9K). INTERNET RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT WE ARE NOT THE ONLY PEOPLE TO EXPERIENCE THIS AND THAT THERE IS A PENDING CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR THIS VERY ISSUE. AS OF RIGHT NOW, THE CARD IS COMPLETELY DEAD AND CANNOT BE DRIVEN, AND FORD IS REFUSING TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR NEGLIGENCE.

I TOOK A LEFT TURN TO GET ONTO THE INTERSTATE ON 7/30/18 AT 7:45 AM. WHEN I STARTED TO ACCELERATE TO MERGE ONTO INTERSTATE WITHOUT WARNING MY CAR STALLED AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER THANKFULLY AND TURN MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON. MY CAR STARTED TO "JUMP" AND WAS BASICALLY STALLING OUT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN AFTER 5 MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON AND IT RAN FINE. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY KEPT IT FOR TWO DAYS. THEY TRIED TO RECREATE THE ISSUE BUT WERE UNABLE TO AND SAID THEY COULD NOT READ THE ERROR ON THE COMPUTER BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN "WIPED" OUT WHEN I RESTARTED MY CAR. THEY TOLD ME TO COME BACK WHEN THE CAR STALLS AGAIN. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING A CAR THAT CAN STALL OUT AND LOSE POWER AT ANY MINUTE. I DRIVE A 24 MILE BRIDGE WITH NO SHOULDERS DAILY AND INTERSTATES. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY SON AROUND IN THIS CAR. FORD WILL NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME UNTIL THE CAR STALLS AGAIN. AS I WAS TRAVELLING HOME FORM VACATION MY CHECK LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE CAR MANUAL FOR THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS WARNING. THE MANUAL STATED THAT, "IF THIS WARNING STAYS ILLUMINATED, THEN IT MEANS THAT THE CAR IS DUE FOR A SERVICE MAINTENANCE. IF THE WARNING CONTINUES TO BLINK, THEN SERVICE IMMEDIATELY." I CONTINUED TO DRIVE FOR ANOTHER 5 MILES AND NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS IDLING LOW AND RUNNING ROUGH. I CAME TO A RED LIGHT AND THE WARNING SIGN FOR AN OVER HEATED ENGINE APPEARS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A AUTOMOTIVE FACILITY AND WAS TOLD THAT THE WATER PUMP HAD BROKEN AND THAT MY ANTI FREEZE AND OIL HAD MIXED TOGETHER AND CIRCULATED THROUGH THE ENTIRE ENGINE PRETTY MUCH DAMAGING THE ENTIRE ENGINE. THE COST ESTIMATE TO HAVE A NEW ENGINE INSTALLED WOULD BE OVER $10,000, DUE TO THE WATER PUMP BEING INCASED IN THE ENGINE. THIS CAR HAD ONLY HAD 130,000 MILES ON IT, AND I REGULARLY KEPT UP WITH SERVICE ON THE VEHICLE. UPON ON LINE RESEARCH, IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT FORD IS MORE THAN AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND CONTINUES TO NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY HOME AND IT WILL NOW SIT THERE UNTIL I CAN REDUCE THE AMOUNT OWED ON THE VEHICLE AND TRADE IT IN. THE WORST PART OF THIS IS, THAT THERE WAS NO TYPE OF WARNING WHATSOEVER, NOR DID FORD EVER MAKE ME AWARE OF THIS BEING A PROBLEM IN THIS VEHICLE.

I OWN A 2011 FORD EDGE LIMITED WITH A 3.5L, 6 CYLINDER ENGINE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN FAITHFULLY MAINTAINED SINCE I PURCHASED IT AT ~30,000 MILES. ON 5/25/2018 WHILE DRIVING OUT-OF-STATE AND WITH APPROXIMATELY 120,000 MILES THE VEHICLE BEGAN EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS OF STALLING AT STOPS AND WHILE PARKING; THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR INDICATIONS OF TROUBLE. PULLING OFF THE ROAD I INSPECTED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID FIRST, SINCE THAT SEEMED THE MOST-LIKELY CULPRIT. DURING THIS CHECK I OVERHEARD A LOT OF NOISE AS HOT COOLANT WAS BEING EJECTED INTO THE COOLANT OVERFLOW RESERVOIR AND IT WAS WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED THAT THE OVERHEAT INDICATOR FIRST SOUNDED. AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE I NOTICED WATER ON THE PAVEMENT UNDER THE VEHICLE. I ARRANGED FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE COOLANT PUMP HAD FAILED. THOUGH COMPLETELY WITHOUT SYMPTOMS UNTIL THE FINAL FEW MINUTES, BECAUSE THE PUMP IS DRIVEN BY THE ENGINE'S TIMING CHAIN, ENOUGH DAMAGE HAD BEEN DONE THAT A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF COOLANT HAD ENTERED THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE WOULD START, BUT PRESSURES IN CYLINDERS 2 AND 4 WERE COMPROMISED AND UNKNOWN OTHER DAMAGE HAD OCCURRED. THE FORD SERVICE ADVISED THAT THE PUMP REPLACEMENT WOULD COST ON THE ORDER OF $2,000 AND THAT LIFE-EXPECTANCY FOR THE PART WAS 150,000 MILES - TWO NUMBERS THAT SEEM INCONGRUOUS BY THEMSELVES FOR A MAINTENANCE ITEM. IN ADDITION, THE ABSENCE OF A COOLING SYSTEM WARNING FACILITATED DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHILE CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE WAS CAUSED TO THE ENGINE.

THE CODE THAT WE JUST DISCOVERED DURING AN EPISODE IS A P2111 CODE ACQUIRED BY A CAN BUSS READER AS IT HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET. PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED IT OFF AND IT RESET. THIS IS DANGEROUS ! MY GRANDCHILDREN RIDE IN THIS VEHICLE.THIS VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 55K MILES SINCE NEW. IT'S FRUSTRATING TO KNOW THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND CHOOSES TO REFUSE THE PROBLEM UNTIL SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED.

I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR AS IT SLOWED TO ALMOST A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION ON A GREEN LIGHT. I WAS LUCKILY TO ABLE TO COAST AT APPROX. 5PMH TO THE END OF THE INTERSECTION BEFORE IT COMPLETELY STOPPED AND THE CAR BEHIND ME DIDN'T HIT ME, THEY WENT AROUND. I HAD TO GET HELP PUSHING IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AFTER THAT TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT SINCE IT STOPPED IN THE ROAD. WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED THE DASH LIT UP WITH A PICTURE OF THE ENGINE AND SAID TO CHECK POWER TO ENGINE. THERE WAS NO WARNING BEFOREHAND. I DO ALL MY OIL CHANGES AND REGULAR MAINTENANCE. THERE WAS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANY OTHER INDICATOR THAT SOMETHING WOULD HAVE BEEN WRONG. AFTER THIS INCIDENT AND GETTING THE CAR HOME IT NOW HAS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND WON'T RUN CORRECTLY. WE CHANGED THE BATTERY DUE TO THE WORDING ABOUT ENGINE POWER AND THAT DIDN'T HELP. DROVE THE EDGE ABOUT 10 MILES ON THE INTERSTATE TO MY EXIT, AFTER COMING TO A STOP AND READY TO ACCELERATE ONTO THE HIGHWAY I HIT THE GAS AND GOT OUT INTO THE INTERSECTION AND THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND LOST ALL POWER LEAVING ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION WITH TRAFFIC COMING BOTH WAYS. AFTER TRAFFIC STOPPED AND I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY MOVE TO THE SHOULDER I SHUT THE CAR DOWN AGAIN AND CALLED A FRIEND TO COME HELP ME. AFTER SITTING FOR 10-20 MINUTES, MY FRIEND SHOWED UP AND THE EDGE RESTARTS AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THANKFUL MY PARENTS WEREN'T DRIVING OR CHILDREN WEREN'T IN THE CAR AND NO ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I'VE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS TO BLAME AND ALL THE SYMPTOMS ARE THE SAME. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE EDGE, MUSTANG, FLEX, EXPLORER AND LINCOLN MKX. VERY DISAPPOINTED AND DANGEROUS! ALL TIMES THE ROAD WAS DRY AND TEMPS WERE BETWEEN 70-80 DEGREES. EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX. 55 MPH IN TRAFFIC ON ROADS WITHOUT A SHOULDER. ONCE SAFELY PULLED OVER THE START BUTTON (KEYLESS START) IS TURNED OFF AND AFTER THE VEHICLE SITS FOR MINUTE IT IS ABLE TO STARTED AGAIN WITHOUT THE LIGHTS COMING ON. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ON-LINE AND THERE ARE MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING ON HIGHWAYS WHERE ACCIDENTS HAVE BEEN NARROWLY AVOIDED. TRAVELING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT HIGH SPEEDS WHEN THIS HAPPENS COULD BE A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. PLEASE FORCE FORD TO ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE DIES DUE TO THIS ISSUE.

PUT ON FLASHERS AND COASTED TO SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED VEHICLE OF/ON, AND CONTINUED TO HOME. DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE AND DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I SUGGESTING THEY DIG FURTHER AND MAYBE CHECK THE INTERNET.....THROTTLE BODY MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAS 80,000 KM AND IS OUT OF EXTENDED WARRANTY BY 6 MONTHS. AFTER 3 DAYS IN THE SHOP, THE DEALER TECHNICIAN SUGGESTED MAYBE THE THROTTLE BODY. I'M CURRENTLY WAITING ON DEALER TO RECEIVE PART. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY ARE PROVIDING A RENTAL, AND ARE EXPEDITING THE PART AS WELL AS OFFERING A REDUCED COST. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE DOCUMENTED.

GOING FROM 60 TO LESS THAN 5 MPH IN A BLIP SECOND WITH NO WARNING. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART IT AND EVERYTHING SEEMED OKAY. WENT HOME TO DO RESEARCH AND EVERYTHING POINTED TO THE THROTTLE BODY THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF POSTS FROM FORD EDGE OWNERS WITH THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE FORD WAS FORCED TO RECALL OTHER MODELS BUT FOR SOME REASON THE EDGE WAS NOT INCLUDED, WE CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY WITH THROTTLE BODY CLEANER, HOWEVER IT REALLY DID NOT LOOK VERY BAD. AFTER CLEANING THE THROTTLE BODY, I DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR A TEST AND DID NOT GET MORE THAN 5 MILES AND THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED THIS TIME I WAS READY AND ONLY GOING 40, HOWEVER I WAS ON THE BACK ROAD WITH NO WHERE TO PULL OVER. I HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART IT, HOWEVER THAT TIME I PUT THE CODE SCANNER IN BEFORE RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. ONE CODE WAS PICKED UP 'P2111" - THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. I CAN NOT BELIEVE FORD HAS NOT RECALLED THE EDGE'S FOR THIS ISSUE, THERE ARE SEVERAL HUNDRED COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE ALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I CURRENTLY AM UNABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE IT WON'T GO MORE THAN 5 MILES AT A TIME WHEN THE WRENCH SHOWS UP AS WELL AS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE INABILITY TO ACCELERATE. CALLED FORD ON 6/7/2016 TO ORDER A NEW THROTTLE BODY. FORD INDICATED THAT THERE IS A BACKORDER ON THIS PART THEY CURRENTLY HAVE 7000 PEOPLE ON THE WAITING LIST. FIRST EXPECTED TO SHIP 6/30/2016.

CAR HAS STALLED TWO TIMES, ONE TIME WAS WHILE DRIVING AND TURNING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE CAR WAS GOING FULL SPEED 55MPH , HAD NO ISSUES LEADING UP TO IT, I SLOWED DOWN TO RUN AND IT COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN - NO POWER STEERING, NO ACCELERATION IT WAS DEAD, THE ENGINE WAS OFF BUT THE CAR WAS STILL ON. OBVIOUSLY THIS WAS A HORRIBLE TIME FOR IT TO DIE. I WAS ABLE TO, BARELY, MAKE THE TURN WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND PULL OVER. I SHUT THE CAR OFF, TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WAS FINE. THE OTHER TIME IT HAPPENED WAS MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAD JUST STARTED THE CAR, PUT IT IN REVERSE, AGAIN THE CAR ON BUT NOTHING WAS HAPPENING. THE ISSUE I HAVE HERE IS JUDGING BY THE ONLINE POSTS THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF FORD SUV'S BUT BECAUSE THIS ISN'T A RECALL THE SERVICE PEOPLE HAVE TO SEE IT ACTUALLY HAPPENING, SO IT NEVER CAN GET FIXED, BECAUSE IT IS VERY INTERMITTENT. DRIVING TO WORK ABOUT TEN MILES OF HIGHWAY, MY CAR STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND SHAKING. I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT THEN MY HEATER STOPPED WORKING A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON "ENGINE COOLANT TEMP" THEN IT DIED COMPLETELY IN A MATTER OF SECONDS, I SAW SOME SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD SO I CALLED FOR HELP. THERE WAS NO OTHER WARNING WHATSOEVER! THE MECHANIC TOLD US THAT THE WATER PUMP HAD GONE OUT AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVER HEAT. IT SHOT COOLANT INTO THE ENGINE AND IT WAS TOTALED. AGAIN THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING AT ALL. NO SENSORS NO ANYTHING. I MAINTAIN MY VEHICLE WITH REGULAR OIL CHANGES ETC. AND IF THERE HAD BEEN ANY WARNING LIGHT I WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY.

I NOW DRIVE THE VEHICLE VERY TENTATIVELY AND HOPE I DON'T HAVE TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY.THE VEHICLE PERSISTS IN THE ABILITY TO NOT ACCLERATE QUICKLY ( USUALLY AT 55 MPH OR HIGHER )WITHOUT THE ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING OR STAYING ON. THROTTLE BODY HOUSING ISSUES WERE DESCRIBED REPEATEDLY. AT MY EXPENSE HAD THE THROTTLE BODY HOUSING ASSEMBLY REMOVED AND REPLACED. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SITUATION THAT NEEDS ADDRESSING BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY. AS A RETIRED HOUSTON FIREFIGHTER I SAW MY SHARE OF HORRIBLE INJURIES AS A RESULT OF MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS. THE CAR IN QUESTION BELONGS TO MY DAUGHTER AND IT IS HER FIRST. IF ANYTHING WERE TO HAPPEN TO HER MY FAMILY WOULD BE CRUSHED. LAST WEEK, WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2011 FORD EDGE SPORT WITH 41,000 MILES AT 65MPH ON A BUSY CHICAGO HIGHWAY, THE MESSAGE CENTER PINGED, "AWD OFF" MESSAGE APPEARED, THEN A PICTURE OF A WRENCH APPEARED. THE CAR THEN LOST ALL POWER, INCLUDING STEERING. LUCKILY, SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND TURN THE CAR OFF. AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES, SHE STARTED THE CAR AND ALL APPEARED FINE. NOT BEING SURE OF WHAT JUST HAPPENED, WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. $200.00 LATER, THEY TOLD US THAT A BRAKE PEDAL CONNECTOR WAS LOOSE AND THAT WAS MOST LIKELY THE CAUSE. A WEEK LATER THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED, AGAIN WHILE SHE WAS TRAVELING ON A BUSY CHICAGO AREA HIGHWAY AT 65MPH. AFTER PULLING OVER, TURNING THE CAR OFF, AND CALMING HERSELF DOWN, SHE STARTED DRIVING TO GET OFF OF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME SHE PULLED OVER AND CALLED ME. I MET HER AND I DROVE THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. WHILE I WAS DRIVING, IT HAPPENED THREE MORE TIMES. HOWEVER, I NOTICED THAT IT APPEARED THAT IF I KEPT THE CAR UNDER 40MPH, IT WOULD RUN WITHOUT RECURRENCE. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY WERE ABLE TO READ THE COMPUTER CODE. THIS TIME THEY TOLD ME IT WAS CODE P2111 AND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR CONTROL WAS STUCK OPEN AND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. $800.00 LATER, THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND POWER TO THE ENGINE. YELLOW WRENCH SHOWED THERE WAS A WARNING, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED, BUT UPON TURNING OFF THE CAR (THE MAIN ELECTRONICS IE:RADIO/AC STILL WORKED) AND RESTARTING IT RESUMED "NORMAL" FUNCTIONS AND DRIVING. WE HAD SEVERAL TIMES THIS HAPPENED TO US. ALL OF THE OCCURRENCES HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF ACCELERATING AND AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. TWO WERE ON RESIDENTIAL ROADS, ONE WAS IN A BUSY INTERSECTION, AND ONE (THE WORST) WAS ON THE FREEWAY 3 LANES OVER FROM THE RIGHT SHOULDER GOING WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC AT 70MPH. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNSUCCESSFUL N ASSISTING WITH THE PROBLEM BECAUSE WITHOUT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. BUT OUR LATEST INCIDENT, ON SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2015 (THIS TIME THE WRENCH AND AWD OFF FLASHED), THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BAD THROTTLE BODY. THIS IS MORE THAN DANGEROUS IT IS A RUSSIAN ROULETTE OF WHETHER THE CAR WILL WORK OR NOT. FIRST FORD DEALER HAD NO CLUE HOW TO FIX IT AND TOLD ME TO LEAVE 3 OR 4 DAYS. NEXT FORD DEALER WANTED 1500.00 4 HOURS AND MAYBE MORE. SO I KEPT DRIVING SINCE PART COSTS 184.00. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR JUST SHUTS OFF. NO POWER STEERING, NOW BRAKES NO NOTHING. IF I COULD I GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED ON MY FLASHERS. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND CRANKED IT BACK UP. SEVERAL TIMES ON THE ONE LANE ROAD HEADED INTO HATTIESBURG I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY 18 WHEELERS AND NO SIDE AREA TO PULL OVER - MY CAR JUST QUIT - STOPPED AND I STOPPED. I GOT TO JACKSON 6 LANE ROAD 5:00 P.M RUSH HOUR AND MY CAR QUIT 6 TIMES AND I ALMOST GOT HIT THERE SEVERAL TIMES. MY WRENCH ICON COMES ON, MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON, MY ENGINE LIGHT IS ON NOW ALSO. THE CAR ABRUPTLY STOPS - THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS - MY HUSBAND GOT A CAR HAULER AND HEADED TOWARD ME AND MET ME OUT OF JACKSON. ONCE, IT STOPPED TO ABRUPTLY THAT MY DOGS HIT THE DASHBOARD IN THE FRONT SEAT AND WERE SO SCARED. THEY WERE IN THE BACKSEAT. I HAVE GRANDCHILDREN THAT RIDE WITH ME - SO CAN YOU IMAGINE THE ISSUES THAT COULD HAPPEN WHEN THIS CAR JUST SHUTS OFF. THIS IS A SEVERE PROBLEM THAT FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS AND SO DOES SAFERCAR.GOV. I CALLED FORD TODAY AND THEY ALL BUT LAUGHED AT ME AND SAID I NEEDED TO GET A NEW THROTTLE BODY INSTALLED AND PAY FOR IT THAT THE 2011 FORD EDGE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03 THAT I FOUND ON A WEBSITE. AT 4 SEPARATE TIMES MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING HAD A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. IT HESITATED, BUT DID START AGAIN, AND THEN DROVE FINE 10 MINUTES BEFORE DOING THE EXACT SAME THING AGAIN! I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY PERSON AT THE DESK KNEW WHAT IT WAS RIGHT AWAY WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE CAR: THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS IS APPARENTLY A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES, AND FORD HAS ALREADY ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR OTHER CARS WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM. FOR THE EDGE, HOWEVER, I AM BEING FORCED TO PAY $600 TO REPAIR IT OR RISK MY LIFE BY CONTINUING TO DRIVE IT AS IT IS. FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THEY HAVE EVEN REDESIGNED THE PART. I'VE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I'M BEING TOLD THE CAR HAS NO CODES OF WHAT HAPPENED AND THEY CAN'T REPAIR. FORD HAS NO IDEA ON HOW TO FIX THIS. I PULL OVER AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES CRANK UP AND GO, SOMETIMES IT DOES IT 5 TO 6 TIMES IN A ROW BEFORE I CAN GET TO THE DEALER. ALSO, MY DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR ALWAYS KEEPS THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT ON, FORD HAS NO CLUE HOW TO FIX THIS EITHER- THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAYS ON THE WHOLE TIME ALSO. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN SEVERAL TIMES FOR THIS ALSO AND THEY CAN'T FIX IT. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED AND IT WAS GREAT FOR ONE YEAR AND NOW IT HAS MANY PROBLEMS WHICH I BELIEVE IT DID WHEN I BOUGHT IT. TODAY, WHILE DRIVING WITH MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER, I HAD COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER WITH THE YELLOW WRENCH SIGN AGAIN. I HAD TO PULL ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH HAZARD LIGHTS ON. CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED 2011 FORD EDGE LIMITED AWD. PURCHASED IN NOV. 2014. ON MONDAY, JUNE 8, 2015 AS I WAS DRIVING AT 55 MPH, A LIGHT CAME ON ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE LIGHT SAID "AWD OFF" AND HAD A LITTLE WRENCH SYMBOL ON IT. THE CAR ABRUPTLY LOST POWER AND I JUST COASTED OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC AND ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE THERE WAS NO SHOULDER. I TRIED TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL BUT NOTHING HAPPENED--THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION. MY VEHICLE ESSENTIALLY "DIED" WITHOUT WARNING IN TRAFFIC. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE SUNNY ABOUT 85 DEGREES. THE RADIO AND AC WORKED, BUT THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT. THE VEHICLE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL OUT AND WAS SPUTTERING AS I COASTED. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN "PARK" AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. I WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE SEEMED TO WORK OK AND NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AFTERWARDS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND ARRANGED FOR ME TO HAVE MY CAR INSPECTED FOR THE CAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION. I PAID $111.30 FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE HOOKED TO A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE BUT THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO GET ANY "CODES" FROM A DIAGNOSTIC READING NOR COULD THE DEALER REPLICATE THE WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON. ON JUNE 24, 2015 THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN. I TOOK A PHOTO OF THE LIGHT ON THE DASH, SENT IT TO DEALERSHIP. THIRD TIME HAPPENED ON FRIDAY, JULY 10, 2015 AND I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE PASSING LANE AND HAD TO COAST ACROSS THE SLOW LANE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC SO I WOULDN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. AGAIN, I TOOK PHOTOS OF THE ODOMETER AND THE "AWD OFF" LIGHT AND SENT TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP SYS WITHOUT A CODE FROM DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE, THEY CAN'T TELL WHAT IS WRONG. THE FIRST TIME THE PROBLEM OCCURRED I WAS DRIVING DOWN A STREET AND HAD SLOWED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN INTO A RETAIL ESTABLISHMENT. JUST AS I MADE THE TURN THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED SLIGHTLY AND IMMEDIATELY LOST FORWARD MOMENTUM - IT WAS LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL - I HAD NO ACCELERATION. A WRENCH APPEARED ON MY DRIVER'S DISPLAY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO A STOP AND I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE. IT TOOK SEVERAL SECONDS LONGER THAN NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE TO START BUT IT DID. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE HAPPENED IN MY WORK PARKING LOT. I HAD BACKED MY VEHICLE OUT OF MY PARKING PLACE AND JUST AS I STARTED TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED SLIGHTLY AND I AGAIN LOST ANY ACCELERATION. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. AGAIN, IT LOOK SLIGHTLY LONGER THAN NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE TO START. THE THIRD TIME I WAS DRIVING 55 DOWN A ROAD WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST MOMENTUM. SAME DEAL WITH LIMPING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PRAYING THIS TIME THAT NOTHING WAS COMING AS THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY HALF OFF THE ROAD. IT STARTED WITH EFFORT. IN EACH OCCURRENCE THE WRENCH APPEARED. THIS HAS ALL HAPPENED OVER A PERIOD OF 13 DAYS. I CONTACTED A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP SATURDAY AND DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM OVER THE PHONE. THE MECHANIC SAID HE WAS VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM - THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. I DECIDED TO DO SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED COMPLAINT AFTER COMPLAINT DESCRIBING THE SAME PROBLEM. I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD FOR NOT MAKING THIS PROBLEM MORE OF A PRIORITY. DOES THERE NEED TO BE A LOSS OF LIFE BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE? WE WILL BE DRIVING SEVERAL STATES AWAY IN JUST A FEW WEEKS AND I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONFIDENCE IN MY VEHICLE. ON APRIL 11, 2015, THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY ON THE ENGINE OF MY 2011 FORD EDGE FAILED WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON A 6-LANE HIGHWAY. I WAS TRAVELING IN THE INSIDE LANE WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE ENGINE, AND I COASTED QUICKLY ACROSS 2 LANES TO A RIGHT TURN LANE. FORTUNATELY, EVERYONE REACTED POSITIVELY TO MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS AS I DECELERATED. ON MONDAY, APRIL 13, THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE CAR. AFTER RETURNING HOME, I CHECKED THE INTERNET FOR INFORMATION ON THIS FAILURE MODE AND WAS SURPRISED TO READ THAT FORD HAD A COUPLE YEARS EARLIER SETTLED A NHTSA COMPLAINT FOR SEVERAL FORD MODELS THAT EXHIBITED THE PROBLEM MY CAR EXPERIENCED. THE FORD EDGE WAS NOT PART OF THE SETTLEMENT. FURTHER RESEARCH REVEALED OTHER FORD EDGES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS MINE. APPARENTLY, FORD WON A PARTIAL SETTLEMENT ON THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. UPON FURTHER INQUIRING WITH TECHNICIAN, HE TOLD THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON ISSUE ON FORD VEHICLES. FORD ESCAPE AND FUSION HAVE BEEN RECALLED TO FIX IT UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE SIMILAR PROBLEM, BUT FORD EDGE HAS NOT BEEN STILL COVERED FOR THIS ISSUES. THERE IS A FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM WITH HOW FORD HAS BEEN HANDLING THE ISSUE FOR THE EDGE. THE ONBOARD COMPUTER WAS ACCESSED AND THE CODE C-P2111 WAS DIAGNOSED. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT IT WOULD BE REPLACED. A NEW PART WAS INSTALLED AND I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 250 MILES AND IT SO FAR HAS NOT REPEATED THE SAME STALLING. IT DOES NOT, HOWEVER, MAINTAIN CONSISTENT RPMS WHILE IDLING. A COUPLE OF TIMES THEY DIPPED DOWN LOW ENOUGH THAT I THOUGHT THE CAR WAS GOING TO DIE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I DISAGREE--I DIDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE INSTALLATION OF THE THROTTLE BODY. I AM MAKING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE THIS ISSUE IS A SEVERE PROBLEM THAT COULD CAUSE SOMEONE TO LOSE THEIR LIFE IF THE CAR STALLED ON THE FREEWAY. I HAD JUST PURCHASED MY 2011 FORD EDGE SEL DRIVING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER DRIVING IT HOME. I WAS DRIVING ON A TWO LANE HWY WHEN I LOST POWER, A WARNING CAME UP ON THE DASH AWD OFF WITH THE LITTLE TOOL BESIDE IT. I HAD TO COAST OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THANKFULLY THERE WAS A PLACE TO PULL OVER. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES THEN RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT DROVE FINE UNTIL 1 WEEK LATER WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IT DID THE EXACT SAME THING, THE CAR SHUT DOWN AGAIN. I DID MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THIS TIME IT DID NOT WANT TO START SO I WAITED ALITTLE LONGER AND TRIED AGAIN AND IT DID START BACK UP. I PULLED OUT AND LESS THAN 1/2 MILE DOWN THE ROAD IT SHUT DOWN AGAIN. I MANAGED TO GET IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TURNED EVERYTHING OFF RESTARTED IT AGAIN. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED AT NIGHT WITH JUST ME AND MY SON, WE WERE SCARED TO DEATH . I DID MAKE IT HOME THAT NIGHT. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T SEE ME UNTIL 1 WEEK AND 2 DAYS LATER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIPS SERVICE DEPT TODAY AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY CAN'T HELP ME WITH MY CAR SINCE IT IS A FORD AND THEY ARE A CHEVY DEALER AND I NEED TO TAKE IT TO THEIR FORD DEALERSHIP. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS BEFORE I DROVE AN UNSAFE CAR 45 MINUTED DOWN THE ROAD. WAS DRIVING IN BUSY RESIDENTIAL AREA AND THE CAR STARTED TO SHUDDER AND EVENTUALLY LOST ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE AND THE DASHBOARD DISPLAYED A WRENCH SYMBOL. IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I THEN TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND UPON RESTARTING WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE SHORT DISTANCE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER PERFORMED A PCM REPROGRAM. PER THE DIAGNOSTIC NOTES, AFTER GETTING A CODE OF P260F THEY REPROGRAMMED THE CAR TO THE LATEST CALIBRATION, TEST DROVE IT (APPROX 9 MILES) AND NO SIGN OF THE PROBLEM. I PICKED THE CAR UP ON FRIDAY, SEPT 5. TODAY, SEPT 7, 2014, JUST 2 DAYS AFTER "FIXING" THE PROBLEM, THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED. SIMILAR SPEED, CAR STARTED TO SHAKE AND UNRESPONSIVE TO ACCELERATOR. FORTUNATELY, I WAS AT NEARLY THE SAME LOCATION SO I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, THIS APPEARS TO A PRETTY COMMON PROBLEM IN THE FORD EDGE OWNER COMMUNITY. THIS IS MY 2ND COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS SAME DEFECT AS IT HAS OCCURRED 2 ADDITIONAL TIMES (3 TOTAL INCIDENTS). THE 1ST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 4/11. AT APPROXIMATELY 20MPH SHE LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND HAD TO QUICKLY CHANGE LANES AND COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHILE AVOIDING TRAFFIC. SHE PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. ONCE SHE TURNED THE CAR BACK ON, THE CAR OPERATED NORMALLY. THE 3RD INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 6/3. MY WIFE ACCELERATED FROM A RED LIGHT INTO AN INTERSECTION AND LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. SHE WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION WITH CARS SWERVING AROUND HER. SHE AGAIN STOPPED HER CAR FROM COASTING, PUT IT IN PARK, AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. SHE RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT OPERATED NORMALLY. I DEEMED HER CAR TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND WOULD NOT ALLOW HER TO DRIVE UNTIL REPAIRED. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THE FORD ESCAPE, FUSION, MARINER, AND MILAN HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THE EDGES ARE HAVING. THOSE OWNERS RECEIVED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. REFERENCE CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM (CSP) 13N03 AND NHTSA ACTION # PE13003. I TOOK HER CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY ERROR CODES NOR REPEAT THE PROBLEM. HE SAID HE COULD NOT REPAIR ANYTHING WITHOUT THIS INFORMATION. I MENTIONED CSP 13N03 AND HE SAID HE WAS AWARE OF IT BUT IT DIDN'T APPLY TO THE EDGE. SINCE THE PROBLEMS WERE EXACTLY THE SAME, I ASKED IF REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. HE HESITATED BUT AFTER SOME PRODDING HE SAID IT WOULD MOST LIKELY FIX THE PROBLEM BUT HE COULDN'T OFFICIALLY SAY SO. I HAD THEM REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ON 6/6 ($698.06) AND MY WIFE HAS HAD ZERO PROBLEMS AS OF 8/13, FURTHER PROVING IT'S THE SAME DEFECT. I HOPE FORD STEPS UP AS THEY DID WITH THE OTHER FORD MODELS AND CORRECTS THIS DANGEROUS SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

WHEN DRIVING ON A 2 LANE MOUNTAIN ROAD AT 60, ENGINE FULLY WARMED UP (RUNNING FOR 20+ MINUTES, AMBIENT TEMPERATURE APPROX 85 F) THE THROTTLE BECOME UNRESPONSIVE AND THE ENGINE RPM DROPPED TO APPROXIMATELY 600 RPM BASED ON THE DASH TACHOMETER. WHEN THIS HAPPENED A YELLOW WRENCH DIALOG WAS DISPLAYED ON THE DIGITAL DASH WITH NO TEXT OTHER THAN "OK". ALL CONTROLS OTHER THAN THE THROTTLE SEEMED TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY. WE WERE GOING DOWNHILL WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND WERE ABLE TO COAST UNTIL WE FOUND A SUITABLE PLACE TO PULL OVER. ONCE WE PULLED OVER WE NOTICED THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND SPUTTERING. WE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND THE ISSUE PERSISTED (ROUGH IDLING AND NO THROTTLE CONTROL). OPENED HOOD AND PULLED ENGINE COVER TO CHECK FOR ANY VISIBLE ISSUES, NONE FOUND. WHEN WE GOT BACK INTO THE CAR THE THROTTLE WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND THE IDLE WAS SMOOTH WITH NO SPUTTERING. WE FINISHED THE REST OF THE DRIVE WITHOUT INCIDENT AND WHEN WE GOT BACK TO THE HOUSE HOOKED UP THE OBDII READER AND NO FAULT CODES WERE STORED. WE TOOK THE EDGE IN TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER (LAWLEY'S TEAM FORD IN SILVER CITY, NM) THE NEXT MORNING AND THEY FOUND NO FAULT CODES STORED IN ANY MODULE AND CHARGED US $122.25 FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS STILL COVERED UNDER THE FACTORY POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE ISSUE BUT SAID IT MAY HAVE BEEN A "RANDOM GLITCH" OR "BAD FUEL". THANKFULLY, THIS HAPPENED ON A LIGHTLY TRAVELED ROAD AND WE WERE HEADING DOWNHILL AND ABLE TO COAST AND FIND A PLACE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. IF THIS WERE A BUSY ROAD OR WE WERE NOT ABLE TO PULL COMPLETELY OFF THE ROAD THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH MORE SERIOUS ISSUE. DRIVING 43MPH, MY VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING. THE AWD OFF AND WRENCH ICON INDICATORS APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. I HAD TO SWERVE ONTO THE MEDIAN TO AVOID BEING REAR-ENDED. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON JUNE 16, 17, 24 & 25. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT VARYING SPEEDS, FASTER AND SLOWER THAN THE FIRST INCIDENT. IT ENDED UP BEING THE THROTTLE BODY, AND CONVENIENTLY JUST 4000 MILES PAST THE WARRANTY EXPIRATION. I WAS TOLD BY TWO SEPARATE MECHANICS THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THEY'VE SEEN MANY TIMES, AND IF IT WERE ONE OF TWO OTHER FORD MODELS, IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PLAN BY FORD. IT IS THE SAME PART IN ALL VEHICLES, BUT ONLY COVERED IN CERTAIN MODELS? THIS FAULTY PART IS PUTTING PEOPLE'S LIVES AT RISK, OR AT MINIMUM PUTTING THEM IN UNNECESSARY DANGER OF AN ACCIDENT AND RESULTING FINANCIAL DAMAGES THAT FOLLOW. IF IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE PART, WHY IS THIS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE? AND WHY ARE ONLY CERTAIN MODELS COVERED? $600 LATER AND I DON'T TRUST THAT MY PROBLEM IS SOLVED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED AFTER THE AWD FAILURE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,290.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER 2011 FORD EDGE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH WITH ME AND ANOTHER PASSENGER WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR BEGAN TO DECELERATE VERY QUICKLY. MY WIFE SHOUTED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND WHEN SHE APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WE WERE IN FULL TRAFFIC AS CARS SPED BESIDE US AND CAME UP QUICKLY BEHIND US SLAMMING ON THEIR BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING US. I TURNED ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND TOLD HER TO TRY TO COAST OVER TO THE SHOULDER BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD STILL NOT RESPOND. SHE HAD TO CUT OFF SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES TO MAKE IT OVER TO THE SHOULDER BUT LUCKILY NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. WHEN WE STOPPED, SHE AGAIN TRIED TO APPLY THE ACCELERATOR BUT STILL NO RESPONSE. SHE PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. SHE WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND STARTED THE CAR AND PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE. THE CAR FINALLY RESPONDED AND WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS WAS A VERY, VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS CAR IS WELL MAINTAINED AND ONLY HAD 51,000 MILES. WHEN THIS WAS HAPPENING, IT REMINDED ME OF THE TOYOTA INCIDENTS BUT INSTEAD OF ACCELERATING UNCONTROLLABLY ON THE HIGHWAY, WE DECELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY. TOOK VEHICLE TO AUTOZONE, THEY PULLED A P2111 CODE. HAVING THROTTLE BODY SERVICED TOMORROW AT LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED TODAY WAS IN AN INTERSECTION - VERY NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THIS THROTTLE BODY FAILURE SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE. HAVING MY 1 YEAR OLD SON IN THE CAR WAS VERY FRIGHTENING, I WAS TERRIFIED I WOULD BE HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AS THE EDGE SUDDENLY TURNS OFF WITH NO WARNING. BEING WE LIVE IN A SOMEWHAT RURAL AREA AND HAVING MY SON, I WAS DETERMINED TO MAKE IT HOME, WHICH THANK GOODNESS I DID SAFELY, UNFORTUNATELY AFTER STALLING OUT 2-3 MORE TIMES. MY HUSBAND TOOK THE EDGE TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY WHICH THEY CLAIM IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY, AND SINCE WE DO NOT HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IS $800. AFTER SEEING THESE OTHER POSTS IT SEEMS THAT THERE SHOULD BE A FORD RECALL. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS HURT, BUT IT CAN LEAD TO A FATALITY IF THE EDGE STALLS ON THE FREEWAY OR BUSY ROAD, ITS VERY SCARY. I PURCHASED A NEW CAR TO FEEL SAFE AND TO HAVE MY SON SAFE, I FEEL FAR FROM AND I WANT NOTHING BUT TO GET RID OF THIS VEHICLE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS MY FORD EDGE LOST POWER TO ACCELERATION AND STALLED OUT. THE FIRST TIME I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. THE CAR WENT LIMP AND A WRENCH WARNING APPEARED. WHEN I CHECKED THE INFORMATION SYSTEM IT HAD THE 'NO KEY DETECTED' WARNING. I RESTARTED AND CAR SEEMED FINE. TWO DAYS LATER I WAS PULLING ONTO A BUSY STREET AND THE SAME THING OCCURRED ONLY THIS TIME NO WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED AND THERE WERE NO WARNINGS IN THE INFORMATION SETTING. ON THE SAME DAY, WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE THE CAR DID THE SAME THING. THIS TIME IT WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THERE WAS NOT A SHOULDER AVAILABLE TO PULL OVER. I HAD TO TURN ON HAZARD LIGHTS AND HOPE THE MOMENTUM OF THE CAR WOULD ALLOW ME TO GET TO A SAFE STOPPING PLACE. UNFORTUNATELY IT DID NOT AND I HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE, PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART. I WAS LUCKY I WASN'T REARENDED. IT DID RESTART BUT THIS TIME THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINED ON. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP. THEY HAVE DETERMINED IT TO BE THE THROTTLE BODY. PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND NO IDEA WHEN CAR WILL BE FIXED. AFTER THE THIRD INCIDENT I BEGAN RESEARCHING AND HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. FORD NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS AS SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED. THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAVE EVEN REPLACED THE MANUFACTURER WHO PROVIDED THE THROTTLE BODY PART DUE TO NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL IMMEDIATELY IF NOT, AT THE VERY LEAST OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES NEED TO BE INFORMED OF THE ISSUE AND IF THEY EXPERIENCE SIMILAR PROBLEMS SHOULD BE TOLD TO IMMEDIATELY CONTACT THEIR DEALER. WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS TWICE, AND 45 MPH ONCE, THE ENGINE COMPLETELY STALLED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE WARNING "WRENCH" LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITH EACH OCCURRENCE. CAR HAD TO BE COASTED TO A COMPLETE STOP, TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED. IT WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP ON EACH OCCURRENCE AND I WAS TOLD WITHOUT A "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT OR WITH THE "WRENCH" LIGHT ILLUMINATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THE CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN ONCE IT STALLS SO THERE IS NO WAY IT CAN BE DRIVEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THIS ERROR DISPLAYED AND ONCE IT IS TURNED OFF THIS WARNING WILL NOT DISPLAY ONCE RESTARTED. OUR SERVICE DEPARTMENT KNOWS EXACTLY THAT THIS IS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM BUT THEY ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO REPLACE IT WITHOUT THIS ERROR DOCUMENTED THROUGH THE COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS. MY DESCRIPTION IS NOT ENOUGH. SENT AWAY WITH A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS AND MALFUNCTIONING VEHICLE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. IN CONTACT WITH REGIONAL MANAGER WHO SHOULD GET BACK TO ME WITHIN 48 HOURS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITH A WARNING SYMBOL ALERT DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED OFF OF THE ROADWAY AND INTO A GRASSY AREA. THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AFTER FIVE MINUTES AND RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNAVAILABLE.

TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND A WRENCH WARNING SYMBOL APPEARED ON DASH BOARD. TURNED OFF CAR AND RESTARTED ALL CLEARED. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING ON COMPUTER. HAPPEN AGAIN ON TRIP TO FLORIDA AND TWICE MORE BACK AT HOME. DEALER AGAIN CHECK AND SAID COULD FIND NOTHING. THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING GOING WRONG AND IT A SERIOUS HAZARD WHEN YOU ARE TRAVELING AT INTERSTATE SPEED AND THE CAR ENGINE, POWER STEERING, AND BRAKES STOP WORKING. I HAD BEEN HAVING ON-GOING ISSUES WITH ENGINE SURGING, STALLING AND GEAR "SKIPPING" SINCE I FIRST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN DECEMBER 2010, WHICH I HAD REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ABOUT WHICH I WAS IN THE MIDST OF LEMON LAW PROCEEDINGS UNDER GA LEMON LAW. THEY ARE BEST DESCRIBED AS SIMILAR IN NATURE TO THOSE REPORTED IN THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION HERE: HTTP://WWW.USATODAY.COM/STORY/MONEY/CARS/2013/02/25/PROBE-FORD-CARS-SUVS-STALLING/1945799/ AT TIMES, THE ENGINE WOULD CUT OUT AT HIGH SPEEDS AND I'D BE STUCK IN "LIMP MODE". OTHER TIMES THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP, THEN SURGE, MAKING IT FEEL AS IF I WERE HIT FROM BEHIND BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. STILL OTHER TIMES, IT MIGHT STALL OUT AT SLOW SPEEDS (I.E. WHILE MAKING A TURN, ETC.), LEAVING ME STUCK IN AN INTERSECTION AND VULNERABLE TO BEING HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FORD HAD ATTEMPTED MULTIPLE TIMES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, BUT IT KEPT RECURRING, EVEN AFTER MANY PARTS WERE REBUILT OR REPLACED. FINALLY, THE UNRESOLVED ISSUE CULMINATED IN AN ACCIDENT ON 11/26/12. I WAS COMING OFF ON A HIGHWAY EXIST RAMP AND THE ENGINE "SKIPPED" AND SURGED, PROPELLING ME INTO THE REAR OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. NO ONE WAS TREATED FOR INJURY AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH, BUT THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER CAR DID REPORT INJURY AFTER THE CRASH. MY ISSUE IS STILL UNRESOLVED BY FORD. THEY CLAIM THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND HAVE MADE NO ATTEMPTS TO GET ME OUT OF THIS VEHICLE, WHICH I AM STUCK DRIVING UNTIL I CAN COMPLETE THE LENGTHY LEMON LAW PROCESS. AS I WAS LEAVING WORK AND PULLED OUT OF THE PARKING LOT ONTO THE MAIN ROAD AND MY CAR STALLED AFTER REACHING APPROX 10-15 MPH INDICATING ME TO "SEE MANUAL" WITH A WRENCH ON THE SCREEN THEN FLASHING "CHECK ENGINE OIL PRESSURE". AS I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP MY EDGE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND THE RPM'S BEGAN TO JUMP UP AND DOWN FRANTICALLY. I THEN TURNED MY EDGE OFF FOR 30 SECONDS. WHEN I RESTARTED IT, IT STARTED WITHOUT ISSUE AND IDLED FINE. I WAS ABLE TO BACK IT UP AND DRIVE IT UNDER 10 MPH TO PARK IT OVER NIGHT. THE FOLLOWING DAY (TODAY) WHEN I WENT TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE SAME THING HAPPENED EXCEPT THIS TIME AROUND ONLY THE "SEE MANUAL" INDICATOR FLASHED AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICING. STILL NO WORD ON WHAT IT COULD POSSIBLY BE. I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL, IT WAS NORMAL AND HAVE BEEN HAVING IT SERVICED EVERY 3,000 MILES. *TR

TWO WEEKS AGO MY FORD EDGE LIMITED (2011), WHICH I HAD FOR LESS THAN 2 YEARS AND IT HAD ~21000MI, STARTED TO HAVE SERIOUS PROBLEMS. WHILE DRIVING ON ONE OF THE BUSIEST HIGHWAYS IN HOUSTON, THE ACCELERATION SUDDENLY DISAPPEARED (GAS PEDAL WENT LIMP) WHEN I WAS GOING 65-70MPH. THE CAR STILL HAD POWER AND I WAS ABLE TO BREAK AND STEER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. WHILE DOING THAT, ALMOST GOT HIT FROM THE BACK TWICE. AFTER COMPLETE STOP AT EMERGENCY LANE, I RESTARTED THE CAR. IT STARTED FINE, AND I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME, THOUGH I WAS AFRAID TO TAKE A HIGHWAY. NEXT DAY, SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED TWICE, AND BOTH TIMES AT ABOUT THE SAME SPEED. THESE TIMES, HOWEVER, I FELT STRONG VIBRATIONS WHEN RESTARTING THE ENGINE. ALL OF THE TIMES, AN ORANGE WRENCH APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING POWER TRAIN PROBLEMS. AFTER THE SECOND TIME, A LIGHT INDICATING THAT ENGINE NEEDS TO BE SERVICED SOON ALSO APPEARED. THIS LIGHT TURNED OFF ON ITS OWN COUPLE DAYS LATER. I HAD PLENTY OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR BEFORE. THIS WAS THE LAST POINT WHEN MY PATIENCE WITH THIS CAR HAD ENDED. BESIDES, I COULD GET INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. LUCKILY, ALL OF THE TIMES I WAS DRIVING AFTER THE RUSH HOUR AND TRAFFIC WAS NOT TOO BAD. OTHERWISE, I WOULD BE DEFINITELY BE HIT BY SOMEONE. IN ANY CASE, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TRADED IT IN. NO WONDER, I WAS TOLD IN THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS AND OFFERED SERVICING THE CAR. I REFUSED IT, BECAUSE OF MULTIPLE PROBLEMS I HAD WITH THIS CAR BEFORE AND JUST DIDN'T WANT TO KEEP IT ANYMORE. FORD DEFINITELY NEEDS TO RECALL 2011 FORD EDGE WITH SUCH PROBLEMS. I WILL CALL THEM AND COMPLAINT TO THEM AS WELL. FOR NOW, I WOULD RECOMMEND PEOPLE NOT TO BUY 2011 FORD EDGE AS IT HAS SO MANY ISSUES, ESPECIALLY WITH ELECTRICAL WIRING/COMPONENTS AND SYNC. I WAS DRIVING WITH MY TWO CHILDREN ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 65 MILES PER HOUR/AVERAGE SPEED LIMIT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR ACCELERATION WENT LIMP AND THE CAR ENGINE STALLED. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL NO LONGER WORKED AND A LITTLE ORANGE WRENCH FLASHED IN THE DIGITAL DASH. THERE WAS NO WARNING. I PUT ON MY HAZARDS. SHUT OFF THE AR, THEN RESTARTED AND IT WAS FINE. THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES. FORD DEALERSHIP CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND CAN'T "RECREATE" THE PROBLEM. I LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ALL OVER USER GROUP WEBSITES COMPLAINING OF THIS PROBLEM BUT WHEN I CALL FORD CUSTOMER CARE THEY SAY THAT "NO ONE HAS EVER FILED THIS COMPLAINT WITH THEM". CALL FORD. BLOW UP THEIR HOTLINES AND IF YOU ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM GET THE WORD OUT TO THEM AND EVERYONE ELSE INCLUDING CONSUMER AFFAIRS, BBB AND MORE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED. I ATTEMPTED TO PARK BEHIND A PARKED VEHICLE. I BACKED OUT OF A DRIVEWAY APPROX 60' FROM THE PARKED CAR AND WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE THE ENGINE STARTED TO RACE & REV VERY QUICKLY (6 - 7 RPM) LIKE THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK. THE CAR RACED FORWARD AND WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL IT HIT THE PARKED VEHICLE. I TRIED TO BRAKE IMMEDIATELY BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD. I APPLIED BOTH FEET WITH MORE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. THE ONLY THING THAT FINALLY STOPPED THE CAR WAS THE PARKED CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MY HUSBAND WAS THE PASSENGER AND CAN VERIFY THE FACTS. ANOTHER PERSON (FEMALE) WHO LIVES AT THE HOUSE NEXT TO THE PARKED VEHICLE ALSO CAME OUT TO VERIFY THAT SHE HEARD A CAR'S ENGINE RACING/REVVING UP BEFORE THE ACTUAL IMPACT. THERE WERE OTHERS IN THE YARD (GRADUATION PARTY) ACROSS THE STREET THAT ALSO HEARD THE REVVING/RACING ENGINE BEFORE THEY HEARD THE IMPACT/CRASH. THERE WAS NO FAULT OF MINE THAT THIS CAR HAD A MIND OF IT'S OWN AND PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD AND THE BRAKES COULD NOT STOP IT FROM HITTING A PARKED CAR. I AM JUST GLAD THAT WE WERE NOT INJURED AND THAT NO ONE ELSE WAS HURT OR KILLED. *TR

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE FREEWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN HER VEHICLE WENT "LIMP". WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN "LIMP' MODE THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION AND YOU CAN FEEL HUGE VIBRATIONS AS IF THE ENGINE WAS ABOUT TO DIE. SHE WAS FORCED TO MANEUVER HER WAY THROUGH THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC WITH HER HAZARDS ON IN ORDER TO GET TO A "SAFE" SPOT. THE ONLY WAY SHE WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE SITUATION WAS TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART IT. THE ON BOARD COMPUTER HAD A WRENCH LIGHT UP AND A MESSAGE ASKING TO LOOK IN OUR MANUAL. PER OUR MANUAL THIS IS A POWERTRAIN ISSUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES IN LESS THAN FOUR DAYS AND TWICE OUR THREE MONTH OLD SON WAS WITH US/HER. MY WIFE IS CURRENTLY TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND SHE JUST CALLED TO INFORM ME THAT IT HAD HAPPENED THE THIRD TIME. THIS IS A DANGEROUS THING AND HAS DISASTER WRITTEN ALL OVER IT! *JB

WAS DRIVING IN MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC GOING ABOUT 50MPH ON A HIGHWAY. CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND WENT "LIMP" WITHOUT ANY NOTICE. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. WAS ABLE TO GET CAR TO SIDE OF ROAD BEFORE IT COMPLETELY STOPPED. IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING AS CARS WERE CLOSE BEHIND ME AND COULD HAVE EASILY REAR-ENDED ME. HUSBAND CAME TO THE SCENE AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART CAR AND DRIVE IT. SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. HAD CAR TOWED TO LOCAL SHOP OWNED BY FORD DEALER. THEY CONCLUDED THAT WE HAD CARBON BUILD UP IN THE FUEL SYSTEM THAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THEY CLEANED OUT THE "GUNK" AND CHARGED US $350. FOUR DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME I HAD BOTH OF MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND MY DOG. CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION IN THE MIDDLE OF 5PM TRAFFIC! WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER IN SHOPPING CENTER BEFORE IT COMPLETELY DIED. TOWED IT BACK TO DEALER. THIS TIME THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, BUT RECALIBRATED IT (WHATEVER "IT" IS). I'M TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS CAR AGAIN FOR FEAR THAT IT WILL HAPPEN WHEN I'M GOING 65MPH ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY! IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT HAPPENS AGAIN. FORD NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM. FROM WHAT I READ, IT HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OF THEIR MODELS AND HAS TYPICALLY INVOLVED THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
