The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the gear shifter was shifted to drive(D) however, the vehicle started to reverse instead. The failure recurred before the contact was able to drive forward. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an advancetrac repair however, the transmission failure was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and suggested that the contact file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 105,050

The contact determined that the PTU (Power Transfer Unit) unit was too close to the catalytic converter and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The dealership was contacted; however, the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal was stiff. The contact applied significant force to the brake pedal and it responded. The contact stated that there was a 10 ft. stopping distance delay when depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle would shut off upon depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring increasingly while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the brake booster had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Ford Campaign Number: 13N02. Additionally, the contact stated that she was informed at State inspection that the vehicle could not be inspected due to a PCM failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the PCM needed to be updated. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that she would need to pay repair fee as the VIN was not included in a recall and Ford Campaign Number: 13N02 had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

Vehicle stahls about 50% time in reverse when parking mainly, and in forward when parking. Very scary and I have only had this vehicle for 1.5 months. Repairs have been made according to CEL codes; however, the stalling does not report the code, so it occurs over and over. Very scared this will happen and cause an accident. Based on numerous forums who had the same car and instance - it is the throttle body.

65 MPH ON HIGHWAY, COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER... ELECTRONICS SEEMED TO SPUTTER OFF, THEN BACK ON FOR A FEW SECONDS, THEN OFF AGAIN, BUT THE VEHICLE SHUT COMPLETELY OFF MID HIGHWAY DRIVING WITH NO ABILITY TO STEER, ACCELERATE OR DECELERATE. ENDED UP AT A COMPLETE STOP ON THE HIGHWAY WITH NOTHING WORKING TO POWER THE VEHICLE BACK ON. HEATER SEEMED TO CONTINUE TO WORK, BUT NOTHING AS FAR AS THE ENGINE OR DASH, NO ELECTRONICS. CONTINUED TO TRY TO START THE VEHICLE OVER AND OVER AS ONCOMING VEHICLES SWERVED AROUND ME AT 60 TO 70 MPH. DIALED 911 AND HAD TO WAIT 15 MINUTES BEFORE A POLICE CAR PARKED BEHIND THE FORD EDGE WITH FLASHERS ON. LITERALLY NO WARNING, NO WARNING LIGHTS, NO NOTHING. VEHICLE SIMPLY LOST POWER... COMPLETELY TURNED OFF. THIS WAS HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE MOST FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCES FOR MY DAUGHTER WHO WAS DRIVING AT THE TIME. SHE'LL LIKELY NOT GET BACK INTO THAT VEHICLE.

I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK ON A COUNTRY ROAD. THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND WOULDN'T GAIN MUCH SPEED. I WAS TRYING TO GET IT PARKED IN AT LEAST A DRIVEWAY OR PLACE TO SIT SAFELY IN CASE SOMETHING HAPPENED. THERE WERE CARS BEHIND ME , THE CAR STARTED SMOKING REALLY BAD FROM THE HOOD. BEFORE I HAD TIME TO GET SOMEWHERE SAFELY, THE CAR SHUT OFF AND STARTED GOING IN REVERSE. I HAD TO SLAM ON MY EMERGENCY BREAK AND WAS STUCK THERE UNTIL I HAD HELP FROM A TOW TRUCK TO TOW IT. THE CAR WOULDN'T TURN ON OR MOVE SO I WAS STUCK ON THIS HILL AND HAD PEOPLE FROM THEIR HOUSE GUIDE TRAFFIC UNTIL HELL CAME. THE CAR DIDN'T GIVE ME ANY WARNINGS OR ISSUES PRIOR TO THIS AT ALL. I HAVEN'T HAD THE VEHICLE FOR MORE THAN 2 YEARS AND HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN CARE OF EVERYTHING AND HAVE KEPT UP ON THE MAINTENANCE OF IT. THE ENGINE IS BLOWN AND WAS TOLD THE ANTIFREEZE LEAKED INTO THE OIL DUE TO THE ENGINE BLOWING. I HAVE STILL BEEN MAKING MY MONTHLY PAYMENT ON THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN CARLESS FOR MONTHS NOW AND WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE FORD TAKING THE ACTION INTO DOING WHAT'S RIGHT FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT KEEP THEM GOING IN BUSINESS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS VEHICLE AND AM SEEING A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE.

THE CAR ACCELERATED WHILE I WAS BRAKING WHILE PARKING ON THE STREET, THIS PROBLEM IS REOCCURRING. I ALSO CONSTANTLY GET A WARNING THAT MY CAR IS OVERHEATING WHILE THE BAR LINE IS ON COLD. I TRIED PUTTING ANTI FREEZE AND IT DOESN'T HELP. THE CAR ALSO TURNED OFF AT A GREEN LIGHT WHEN I TURNED ON MY AIR CONDITIONER. LASTLY I GOT A WARNING THAT MY OIL PRESSURE IS LOW ALTHOUGH I JUST GOT AN OIL AND FILTER CHANGE THE DAY BEFORE. PLEASE DO A RECALL FOR THESE THINGS. I HAVE A CHILD AND IT IS VERY UNWISE TO PUT HIM IN ANY DANGER BY BEING IN THIS CAR.

I WAS DRIVING MY FORD EDGE ON ROUTE 303 IN PHOENIX AT ABOUT 60 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY STARTED SHAKING AND LOSING POWER. IT ALLOWED ME TO DRIVE A VERY SHORT DISTANCE UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR, IN A TURN LANE WITH A TRACTOR TRAILER ON MY TAIL ...VERY DISCONCERTING! A YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT WAS SHOWING ALONG WITH SOME NOTICE ABOUT MY TRACTION BEING OFF, I BELIEVE. AFTER SITTING A FEW MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT OFF THE TURN LANE AND INTO A FAIRLY SAFE LANE AHEAD. FORTUNATELY A POLICEMAN PULLED UP BEHIND ME AND I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND CALLED AAA FOR A TOW. 20 MINUTES LATER, I TURNED ON THE ENGINE WHICH NOW SEEMED FINE SO THE POLICEMAN SUGGESTED THAT I PULL FORWARD INTO A SAFER AREA. AFTER DOING SOTHEBY'S CAR SEEMED FINE AGAIN SO I DROVE IT TO MY DAUGHTER'S HOUSE SEVERAL MILES AWAY AND CANCELLED THE TOW. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ON LINE SINCE AND THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY EDGE OWNERS WHO HAVE FEARED FOR THEIR LIVES WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO THEM. SOME SAY CLEANING OR REPLACING THE THROTTLE PLATE SEEMED TO WORK BUT OTHERS HAVE FOUND THAT THE DEALERS INSIST NOTHING IS WRONG AFTER TESTING IT.... IT SEEMS TO HAVE HAPPENED TOO MANY TIMES FOR NOTHING TO BE DONE.... I THINK A RECALL IS IN ORDER SO THAT THE DEALERSHIPS CAN FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE, IF THAT HASN'T ALREADY ACCUR. I HAVE A 2011 FORD EDGE.

THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE UNDER ITS OWN POWER. THE ENGINE RPM WOULD INCREASE AS WELL AS THE SPEEDOMETER BUT NO MOVEMENT. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO MOVE WITH THE VEHICLE IN PARK. TOWED TO SHOP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE AXLE RETAINER CLIP HAD FALLEN OFF AND THE CV AXLE AND IT SLID OUT OF THE THE INNER SHAFT AND STRIPPED THE ENTRY TEETH AND THE END OF THE CV SHAFT. KNOWN PROBLEM ON 2012-14 FORD EDGE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING 8 MPH, THE REVERSE SENSORS WENT OFF. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN REVERSE, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND BACK UP CAMERA WENT BLANK. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE GEAR BECAME STUCK IN REVERSE AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED INTO THE VEHICLE IN THE REAR. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF UNTIL IT BECAME OPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CLUTCH WAS NOT RECOGNIZING WHAT GEAR WAS SELECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MIDWEST KIA (8725 W KELLOGG DR, WICHITA, KS 67209, (316) 448-8493), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. DRIVING IN MIDDLE LANE ON HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR AND SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO AVOID BEING REAR ENDED AND COAST TO SHOULDER OF HIGHWAY. AFTER TURNING THE CAR ON ANF OFF A COUPLE OF TIMES, THE CAR RESPONDED WHEN I PUSHED ACCELERATOR. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE A 1/10 OF A MILE TO A LINCOLN DEALER AND LEAVE MY CAR THERE. AFTER GOOGLING THE ISSUE, I SEE MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE WITH FORDS, SOME HAVE BEEN RECALLED, SOME HAVE HAD WARRANTIES EXTENDED TO FIX..(EVEN A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT EXISTS!) BUT, I RECEIVED NO NOTIFICATION FROM FORD THAT THIS COULD BE AN ISSUE. I ALSO DISCOVERED THAT QUITE A FEW PEOPLE SAY THEY WERE IN ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS ISSUE.THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND I NARROWLY ESCAPED CAUSING A MULTI CAR ACCIDENT!! FORD NEEDS TO BE FORCED TO FIX THIS ISSUE IMMEDIATELY AND TO NOTIFY ALL THOSE IN DANGER BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED!!

SHIFT TO PARK WARNING INDICATOR KEEPS COMING ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ALREADY IN PARK AND THE VEHICLE IS SHUTOFF. THIS CAUSES THE WHOLE CLUSTER TO LIGHT UP AND WILL EVENTUALLY RUN THE BATTERY DOWN LEAVING A PERSON STRANDED. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS IT OCCURS ON SEVERAL MODELS. THEY NEED TO RECALL THIS DEFECT IN THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY.

2011 FORD EDGE LOST ALL POWER FROM THE THROTTLE WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE. PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, HAD A YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT, NO THROTTLE RESPONSE AND ROUGH RUNNING ENGINE. SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF WAITED ABOUT 2 MINUTES AND RESTARTED EVERYTHING WAS RUNNING FINE. DROVE THE EDGE ABOUT 10 MILES ON THE INTERSTATE TO MY EXIT, AFTER COMING TO A STOP AND READY TO ACCELERATE ONTO THE HIGHWAY I HIT THE GAS AND GOT OUT INTO THE INTERSECTION AND THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND LOST ALL POWER LEAVING ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION WITH TRAFFIC COMING BOTH WAYS. AFTER TRAFFIC STOPPED AND I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY MOVE TO THE SHOULDER I SHUT THE CAR DOWN AGAIN AND CALLED A FRIEND TO COME HELP ME. AFTER SITTING FOR 10-20 MINUTES, MY FRIEND SHOWED UP AND THE EDGE RESTARTS AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THANKFUL MY PARENTS WEREN'T DRIVING OR CHILDREN WEREN'T IN THE CAR AND NO ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I'VE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS TO BLAME AND ALL THE SYMPTOMS ARE THE SAME. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE EDGE, MUSTANG, FLEX, EXPLORER AND LINCOLN MKX. VERY DISAPPOINTED AND DANGEROUS! GREAT VEHICLE BUT POOR QUALITY OF ELECTRONIC PARTS I HOPE AND PRAY THIS NEVER HAPPENS TO SOMEONE WHO PANICS WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE. VEHICLE WILL NOT BE DROVE UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS FIXED. BUT THE PROBLEM COULD HAPPEN AGAIN WITHIN A DAY OR IN FEW DAYS. IT IS REALLY DANGEROUS WHILE DURING IN HIGHWAY OR IN BUSY ROADS WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED. THE PROBLEM HAPPENS RANDOMLY. I PURCHASED THE CERTIFIED USED EDGE IN OCTOBER OF 2013. I HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE IT HAS LOST ALL POWER ON ME TWICE IN THE LAST MONTH. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD JUST ENOUGH TIME TO PUT MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON TO ALERT THE VEHICLE APPROACHING MY VEHICLE. IT TOOK SEVERAL MINUTES FOR ME TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AS I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE. I CALLED FOR AAA TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED HOME. WHILE WAITING I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. JUST AS THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED I TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON AND THE WRENCH SYMBOL WAS GONE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE SO I STILL HAD IT TOWED. I WILL BE TAKING IT TO THE SHOP ON MONDAY MORNING. HOPEFULLY THEY CAN FIND AND FIX THE ISSUE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. I COULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED OR KILLED IN A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT. I NOW DRIVE THE VEHICLE VERY TENTATIVELY AND HOPE I DON'T HAVE TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY.THE VEHICLE PERSISTS IN THE ABILITY TO NOT ACCLERATE QUICKLY ( USUALLY AT 55 MPH OR HIGHER )WITHOUT THE ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING OR STAYING ON. IT ALSO SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOST FREQUENTLY ON QUICK ACCLERATION --ON RAMP OR GETTING UP TO FREEWAY SPEED . IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AS THIS USUALLY HAPPENS GETTING ON OR OFF THE FREEWAY OR STAYING UP WITH TRAFFIC, ONCE THE LIGHT GOES ON THE VEHICLE SHUDDERS AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE TODAY IT WILL BE 3 MONTHS FIRST VISIT WAS OCT 29 MILEAGE WAS 68000 AND HAS HAPPENED UP TO TODAY MULTIPLE TIMES AND MILEAGE IS NOW 74000 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN BACK TO FORD DEALER AGAIN TOMORROW.

I TOLD THEM TO PUT ONE ON IT AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DON'T JUST REPLACE PARTS. I PICKED IT UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND 2 DAYS LATER IT DID THIS AGAIN. YOU COULD BE DOING 60, 65. OR 25 WHEN IT DECIDES TO LOSE THROTTLE CONTROL. IN THE MIDDLE OF A INTERSECTION TURNING OR GOING 60 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE IT DON'T MATTER. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I HAVE READ THAT FORD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE BUT WAS NOT MADE TO ISSUE A RECALL. UNFORTUNATELY, FORD INC'S "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM" FOR THIS ISSUE EXPIRED IN JANUARY 2015 SO NOW I WILL BE OUT THE MONEY TO FIX THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE. I WAS QUITE SCARED BY THE SUDDEN ONSET OF THIS PROBLEM, THE LOSS OF CONTROL AND THE FACT THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ONLY GAVE ME "WRENCH" SYMBOL AND NO INSTRUCTIONS OR DESCRIPTIONS THAT WERE HELPFUL. ONCE I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN, THE SYMBOL LIGHT WAS GONE AND MY CAR DROVE NORMALLY. AT NO TIME PRIOR TO THIS EVENT DID MY INSTRUMENT PANEL DENOTE ANY ISSUE WITH MY POWER TRAIN. ONCE I HAD THIS FAILURE, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY DEALER, MAXWELL FORD IN AUSTIN, AND THEY INFORMED ME THIS IS AN EVENT THAT THEY HAVE SEEN BEFORE. I AM REPORTING IT TO YOU BECAUSE I FEEL THIS WAS A VERY THREATENING SITUATION. LOSING ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE PUT ME AT RISK OF BEING HIT FROM BEHIND. I WAS LUCKY TO BE GOING OFF THE HIGHWAY TO THE RIGHT...A LEFT TURN WOULD HAVE BEEN FATAL IN THIS CIRCUMSTANCE, AS THERE WAS NO WAY TO ACCELERATE AND CLEAR MYSELF FROM ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY FORD BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED.

THIS HAPPENED TWICE IN 8 HOURS. CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED, HAD FUEL, NEW BATTERY, ETC. WITH NO OTHER WARNINGS OR INDICATORS. THIS ISSUE IS VERY DANGEROUS!

WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, IT JUST PERIODICALLY LOST ACCELERATION ABILITY. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35-40 MPH WHEN IT HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME. I THEN COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT OFF THE ROAD AND SHUT OFF THE CAR FOR A FEW MINUTES. AT THAT TIME THE WRENCH SYMBOL CAME ON THE DISPLAY REFERRING ME TO MY MANUAL FOR FURTHER INFORMATION, WHICH TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A POWERTRAIN PROBLEM AND TO CONTACT A DEALER FOR SERVICE. IT THEN STARTED FINE AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT FOR SOME TIME. THE NEXT DAY THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I THEN HAD A FEW DAYS OF NORMAL DRIVING, AND THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN BUT THIS TIME IT SEEMED TO JUST DECELERATE MORE RAPIDLY (UNABLE TO COAST TO A STOP), IT JUST STOPPED BUT WAS STILL RUNNING. I THEN SHUT IT OFF AND THEN STARTED IT BACK UP AND DROVE IT HOME WHERE I LEFT IT UNTIL BEING ABLE TO GET INTO A SHOP FOR SERVICE WHICH WAS A WEEK LATER. AT THE TIME OF THIS PROBLEM, THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WAS AVAILABLE UNTIL JUNE, 2016 OR 60,000 MILES. AT THIS TIME THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 51,700 MILES ON IT. ULTIMATELY THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BAD THROTTLE BODY WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND THE COST OF REPAIR WAS $548.14 AT A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM THAT THE 2011 FORD ESCAPES HAD FOR WHICH THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED.

I WAS DRIVING, AT 40 MILES PER HOUR, ON A CITY STREET. THE YELLOW/GOLD INDICATOR (A WRENCH) APPEARED. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER, GOING FROM 40 TO 20 MILES PER HOUR. THIS HAPPENED IN LESS THAN ONE MINUTE. I PULLED ON TO A SIDE STREET, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, AND CHECKED TO OWNER'S MANUAL. IT SAID :POWER TRAIN MALFUNCTION". THE INSTRUCTIONS SAID TO STOP DRIVING AND CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. I DID THIS. I CALLED FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEN CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. I WANTED TO KNOW IF IT WAS SAFE TO TURN ON THE CAR'S AIR CONDITIONING. I WAS TOLD, "YES" THIS IS SAFE. THE TOW ARRIVED 65 MINUTES LATER AND TOOK THE CAR DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER THREE DAYS OF GOING OVER THE CAR, DRIVING IT, CONTACTING FORD, THE (FORD) DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD TO DRIVE THE CAR AND IF THIS HAPPENED AGAIN, TO BRING THE CAR DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND DO NOT TURN OFF THE ENGINE. HOW AM I TO DRIVE THE CAR WHEN THE CAR IS IN THIS CONDITION? HOW CAN I DRIVE ON A CITY HIGHWAY OR AN INTERSTATE, WHERE THE SPEED IS HIGH AND HAVE THIS HAPPEN AGAIN? HOW CAN I SAFELY DRIVE MY GRANDCHILDREN IN THIS CAR? I CALLED FORD, BUT OF COURSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING. I WANT THE CEO MARK FIELDS AND THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN, WILLIAM CLAY FORD, JR. TO TELL ME: 1. WOULD YOU FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR; 2. THE ENGINE SPEED DROPS TO A ROUGH IDLE WHICH IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CAR THEN COASTS TO A STOP. THERE IS NO LOSS OF POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON 3 DAYS LATER, I HAD A LITTLE COMPUTER IT READ CODE P0744, TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH CIRCUIT INTERMITTENT, GENERIC CODE FOR POWER TRAIN PROBLEM. TOOK IT TO FORD DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEIR COMPUTER WAS READING THAT CODE AS WELL AS NEEDING A NEW PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE). THIS IS COSTING APROX. $655.00 AND THEY ARE NOT SURE IF THAT IS THE ONLY THING IT NEEDS, ONCE THIS IS FIXED THE COMPUTER COULD READ SOMETHING ELSE. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO GAVE US A PRINTOUT STATING THIS IS A COMMON AND KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE FORD EDGE 2011-2012. CALLED FORD CORP. THEY WERE NOT VERY HELPFUL OTHER THAN SUGGESTING FILING A COMPLAINT. WE WERE TOLD THIS PROBLEM COULD SHUT THE CAR DOWN COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING, IT MAKES ME A LITTLE SCARED TO DRIVE IT, I DON'T NEED IT BREAKING DOWN WITH MY CHILD IN THE CAR. NOT HAPPY WITH PAYING $100.00 TO BE TOLD IT'S GOING TO COST ANOTHER $650.00 AND IT MAY NOT EVEN FIX THE PROBLEM.

SINCE THERE WAS NO RECALL OR MENTION OF THIS PROBLEM FROM FORD, I WAS TOLD NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. TODAY, WHILE DRIVING WITH MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER, I HAD COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER WITH THE YELLOW WRENCH SIGN AGAIN. I HAD TO PULL ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH HAZARD LIGHTS ON. CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED 2011 FORD EDGE LIMITED AWD. PURCHASED IN NOV. 2014. ON MONDAY, JUNE 8, 2015 AS I WAS DRIVING AT 55 MPH, A LIGHT CAME ON ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE LIGHT SAID "AWD OFF" AND HAD A LITTLE WRENCH SYMBOL ON IT. THE CAR ABRUPTLY LOST POWER AND I JUST COASTED OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC AND ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE THERE WAS NO SHOULDER. I TRIED TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL BUT NOTHING HAPPENED--THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION. MY VEHICLE ESSENTIALLY "DIED" WITHOUT WARNING IN TRAFFIC. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE SUNNY ABOUT 85 DEGREES. THE RADIO AND AC WORKED, BUT THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT. THE VEHICLE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL OUT AND WAS SPUTTERING AS I COASTED. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN "PARK" AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. I WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE SEEMED TO WORK OK AND NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AFTERWARDS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND ARRANGED FOR ME TO HAVE MY CAR INSPECTED FOR THE CAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION. I PAID $111.30 FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE HOOKED TO A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE BUT THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO GET ANY "CODES" FROM A DIAGNOSTIC READING NOR COULD THE DEALER REPLICATE THE WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON. ON JUNE 24, 2015 THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN. I TOOK A PHOTO OF THE LIGHT ON THE DASH, SENT IT TO DEALERSHIP. THIRD TIME HAPPENED ON FRIDAY, JULY 10, 2015 AND I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE PASSING LANE AND HAD TO COAST ACROSS THE SLOW LANE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC SO I WOULDN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. AGAIN, I TOOK PHOTOS OF THE ODOMETER AND THE "AWD OFF" LIGHT AND SENT TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP SYS WITHOUT A CODE FROM DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE, THEY CAN'T TELL WHAT IS WRONG. FOURTH TIME HAPPEN LAST NIGHT, JULY 14, 2015. THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE AS FROM RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, A LOT OF OTHER FORD EDGE OWNERS EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM! PLEASE HELP! IT HAPPENED AGAIN 10 MILES AFTER PICKING UP FROM THE DEALER. RESCHEDULED FOR NEXT DAY WITH DEALER. ISSUE HAPPENED YET AGAIN ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER. ONCE AGAIN DEALER COULD NOT FIND ISSUE OR ANY ERROR CODES. IN SUMMARY, IT HAPPENED 5 TIMES IN LESS THAN 30 MILES OF DRIVING. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.

THIS WOULD PERIODICALLY HAPPEN EVERY OTHER DAY UNTIL THIS WEEKEND IT HAPPENED TO ME 14 TIMES JUST THIS WEEKEND... 3 OF THESE TIMES WERE THIS MORNING WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ON MY WAY TO WORK. I WAS DRIVING DOWNHILL AND NO ACCELERATOR AND LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND THERE WAS AN 18 WHEELER BEHIND ME WHO JACKKNIFED AROUND MY CAR SINCE THERE WAS NO SHOULDER TO PULL OVER ON. THIS IS A VERY VERY BIG PROBLEM! TALKED TO THE DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING AND THEY CAN'T GET ME IN FOR 4 DAYS. THE POWER TRAIN WRENCH WAS FLASHING AND SAID TO CONSULT THE MANUAL, SO WE DID. FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS, I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. IT TOOK A LOT LONGER TO TURN OVER, BUT IT EVENTUALLY DID. WE CALLED OUR DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT I COULD BRING THE CAR IN TODAY (FOUR DAYS LATER). THE EDGE DID THIS TWO MORE TIMES OVER THE WEEKEND SO I GOOGLED THE ISSUE AND FOUND THIS SITE. I PRINTED OFF THE FIRST FOUR PAGES OF COMPLAINTS AND TOOK IT WITH ME TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY WOULDN'T EVEN LOOK AT IT. THEY TOLD ME THAT "HAD TO RECREATE THE ISSUE" OR THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT. THEY PROPOSED THAT I LET THEM KEEP THE VEHICLE FOR FIVE DAYS AND LET THEM TRY IT EVERY DAY. ABSOLUTELY NOT. WITH ALL THESE DOCUMENTED ISSUES AND FORD BEING UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNLESS IT HAPPENS TO THEM, IF THEY CAN'T GET IT TO HAPPEN TODAY, WE WILL BE DONE WITH FORD FOREVER. OUR FAMILY WAS DRIVING ON A HEAVILY TRAVELED BRIDGE AT 40MPH AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY LOST ALL POWER AND IDLED ROUGHLY, FORCING US TO TRAVEL ON THE BRIDGE AT JUST A FEW MILES AN HOUR WITH OUR FOUR-WAY FLASHERS ON UNTIL WE REACHED THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. A WRENCH APPEARED ON THE COMPUTER SCREEN WITH THE MESSAGE AWD OFF. MY HUSBAND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND IT RAN FINE UNTIL WE DROVE IT AGAIN AND SAME THING HAPPENED. WE ARE FEARFUL FOR OUR SAFETY AND BEG FORD TO RECALL. I VISITED SEVERAL WEBSITES AND SAW WAY TOO MANY CONSUMERS WITH THIS SAME SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WE ARE GOING TO GET IT EVALUATED BY A MECHANIC TOMORROW AND PRAY THAT WE ARE ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE IT TO THE GARAGE.

ON APRIL 11, 2015, THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY ON THE ENGINE OF MY 2011 FORD EDGE FAILED WHILE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON A 6-LANE HIGHWAY. I WAS TRAVELING IN THE INSIDE LANE WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE ENGINE, AND I COASTED QUICKLY ACROSS 2 LANES TO A RIGHT TURN LANE. FORTUNATELY, EVERYONE REACTED POSITIVELY TO MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS AS I DECELERATED. ON MONDAY, APRIL 13, THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE CAR. AFTER RETURNING HOME, I CHECKED THE INTERNET FOR INFORMATION ON THIS FAILURE MODE AND WAS SURPRISED TO READ THAT FORD HAD A COUPLE YEARS EARLIER SETTLED A NHTSA COMPLAINT FOR SEVERAL FORD MODELS THAT EXHIBITED THE PROBLEM MY CAR EXPERIENCED. THE FORD EDGE WAS NOT PART OF THE SETTLEMENT. FURTHER RESEARCH REVEALED OTHER FORD EDGES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS MINE. APPARENTLY, FORD WON A PARTIAL SETTLEMENT ON THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. THE FAILURE MODE IS AS DANGEROUS AS THE GENERAL MOTORS IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE. BOTH THE GM AND FORD FAILURE MODES RESULT IN THE SAME MANNER ' COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER AND A HOPE TO MAKE IT SAFELY TO STOP. RECOGNIZING THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING PROBLEMS SIMILAR TO ME, SHOULDN'T THE NHTSA REEXAMINE THIS FORD PROBLEM. IN MY CASE I'M JUST THANKFUL MY WIFE WASN'T DRIVING THE CAR. I WAS DRIVING VEHICLE UP A SLIGHT GRADE AT 30MPH. ENGINE POWER SUDDENLY DROPPED TO AN IDLE RPM. IT FELT LIKE IT WAS RUNNING ON 1 CYLINDER AND VERY ROUGH. I WAS ABLE TO "CREEP" THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF ROAD. PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR IN NEUTRAL OR DRIVE HAD NO EFFECT. A "WRENCH" WARNING ICON APPEARED ON THE INDICATOR PANEL. SHUTTING OFF AND RESTARTING THE CAR ALLOWED US TO DRIVE HOME. THIS OCCURRED TWO TIMES WITHIN 2 MILES. THE CAR WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER TODAY FOR REPAIRS. THIS SAME SCENARIO (LESS THAN 270 MILES PRIOR) OCCURRED AS MY WIFE ACCELERATED AWAY FROM OUR HOME 3 WEEKS PRIOR. THE OWNERS MANUAL INDICATED IT WAS AN AWD ISSUE. MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE THAT FEATURE.THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED IT WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM COVERED BY A SERVICE BULLETIN AND REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER. PRIOR TO THESE ENGINE INCIDENTS THE CAR HAD ACTED ODD WHEN SHIFTING, AS THOUGH IT POPPED IN AND OUT OF GEAR. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID NO CODES WERE COMING UP SO THEY COULDN'T FIX ANYTHING. I SAID WELL OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING IS WRONG, I SUGGESTED THE THROTTLE BODY THEY SAID NO CODES CAME UP, NOTHING THEY CAN DO, AGAIN I SAID SOMETHING IS WRONG ITS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE! DURING DRIVING MY 2011 FORD EDGE THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE STALL OCCURRED AT AN APPROXIMATE DRIVING SPEED OF 30 MPH IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROADWAY. A LIGHT DEPICTING A WRENCH SHOWN ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DISPLAY ALONG WITH A MESSAGE TO CONSULT MANUAL. AT THE TIME THIS HAPPENED, I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT TO SEE IF I COULD GET IT GOING AGAIN BEFORE I GOT HIT BY A CAR. THE CAR DID START AND THEN DROVE NORMALLY. I LOOKED IN THE MANUAL AND FOUND THE WRENCH ICON TO INDICATE A POWERTRAIN DEFECT. SINCE THIS WAS A DRIVING HAZARD, I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE ONBOARD COMPUTER WAS ACCESSED AND THE CODE C-P2111 WAS DIAGNOSED. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT IT WOULD BE REPLACED. A NEW PART WAS INSTALLED AND I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 250 MILES AND IT SO FAR HAS NOT REPEATED THE SAME STALLING. IT DOES NOT, HOWEVER, MAINTAIN CONSISTENT RPMS WHILE IDLING. A COUPLE OF TIMES THEY DIPPED DOWN LOW ENOUGH THAT I THOUGHT THE CAR WAS GOING TO DIE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I DISAGREE--I DIDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE INSTALLATION OF THE THROTTLE BODY. I AM MAKING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE THIS ISSUE IS A SEVERE PROBLEM THAT COULD CAUSE SOMEONE TO LOSE THEIR LIFE IF THE CAR STALLED ON THE FREEWAY. AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY LOST ALL THAT POWER, THE LITTLE YELLOW WRENCH SYMBOL (INDICATING POWERTRAIN/AWD ISSUES) APPEARED AND THE WORDS NO AWD. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY (AS WELL AS MY TWO PASSENGERS) THAT THIS DID NOT OCCUR ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY OR THERE WAS MANY CARS RIGHT BEHIND ME. THIS VERY WELL COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR CRASH!!! ESPECIALLY IF I WAS GOING 65MPH ON OUR MAJOR HIGHWAYS WITH HEAVING TRAFFIC. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, JUST LIKE THE LAST TIME. THEY SAID IF THEY CAN REPRODUCE IT, THEY CAN'T FIX IT. JAMES WITH THE SAME RESULTS. NO CODES, NO HELP. I CAME HOME AND HAD A LOCAL MECHANIC DRIVE IT. HE DID AND SAID THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG & TO CHECK THE INTERNET FOR COMMON PROBLEMS. THIS IS MY 2ND COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS SAME DEFECT AS IT HAS OCCURRED 2 ADDITIONAL TIMES (3 TOTAL INCIDENTS). THE 1ST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 4/11. ONCE SHE TURNED THE CAR BACK ON, THE CAR OPERATED NORMALLY. THE 3RD INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 6/3. MY WIFE ACCELERATED FROM A RED LIGHT INTO AN INTERSECTION AND LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. SHE WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION WITH CARS SWERVING AROUND HER. SHE AGAIN STOPPED HER CAR FROM COASTING, PUT IT IN PARK, AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. SHE RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT OPERATED NORMALLY. I DEEMED HER CAR TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND WOULD NOT ALLOW HER TO DRIVE UNTIL REPAIRED. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THE FORD ESCAPE, FUSION, MARINER, AND MILAN HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THE EDGES ARE HAVING. THOSE OWNERS RECEIVED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. REFERENCE CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM (CSP) 13N03 AND NHTSA ACTION # PE13003. I TOOK HER CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY ERROR CODES NOR REPEAT THE PROBLEM. HE SAID HE COULD NOT REPAIR ANYTHING WITHOUT THIS INFORMATION. I MENTIONED CSP 13N03 AND HE SAID HE WAS AWARE OF IT BUT IT DIDN'T APPLY TO THE EDGE. SINCE THE PROBLEMS WERE EXACTLY THE SAME, I ASKED IF REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. HE HESITATED BUT AFTER SOME PRODDING HE SAID IT WOULD MOST LIKELY FIX THE PROBLEM BUT HE COULDN'T OFFICIALLY SAY SO. I HAD THEM REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ON 6/6 ($698.06) AND MY WIFE HAS HAD ZERO PROBLEMS AS OF 8/13, FURTHER PROVING IT'S THE SAME DEFECT. I HOPE FORD STEPS UP AS THEY DID WITH THE OTHER FORD MODELS AND CORRECTS THIS DANGEROUS SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

WHEN DRIVING ON A 2 LANE MOUNTAIN ROAD AT 60, ENGINE FULLY WARMED UP (RUNNING FOR 20+ MINUTES, AMBIENT TEMPERATURE APPROX 85 F) THE THROTTLE BECOME UNRESPONSIVE AND THE ENGINE RPM DROPPED TO APPROXIMATELY 600 RPM BASED ON THE DASH TACHOMETER. WHEN THIS HAPPENED A YELLOW WRENCH DIALOG WAS DISPLAYED ON THE DIGITAL DASH WITH NO TEXT OTHER THAN "OK". ALL CONTROLS OTHER THAN THE THROTTLE SEEMED TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY. WE WERE GOING DOWNHILL WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND WERE ABLE TO COAST UNTIL WE FOUND A SUITABLE PLACE TO PULL OVER. ONCE WE PULLED OVER WE NOTICED THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND SPUTTERING. WE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND THE ISSUE PERSISTED (ROUGH IDLING AND NO THROTTLE CONTROL). OPENED HOOD AND PULLED ENGINE COVER TO CHECK FOR ANY VISIBLE ISSUES, NONE FOUND. WHEN WE GOT BACK INTO THE CAR THE THROTTLE WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND THE IDLE WAS SMOOTH WITH NO SPUTTERING. WE FINISHED THE REST OF THE DRIVE WITHOUT INCIDENT AND WHEN WE GOT BACK TO THE HOUSE HOOKED UP THE OBDII READER AND NO FAULT CODES WERE STORED. WE TOOK THE EDGE IN TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER (LAWLEY'S TEAM FORD IN SILVER CITY, NM) THE NEXT MORNING AND THEY FOUND NO FAULT CODES STORED IN ANY MODULE AND CHARGED US $122.25 FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS STILL COVERED UNDER THE FACTORY POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE ISSUE BUT SAID IT MAY HAVE BEEN A "RANDOM GLITCH" OR "BAD FUEL". THANKFULLY, THIS HAPPENED ON A LIGHTLY TRAVELED ROAD AND WE WERE HEADING DOWNHILL AND ABLE TO COAST AND FIND A PLACE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. IF THIS WERE A BUSY ROAD OR WE WERE NOT ABLE TO PULL COMPLETELY OFF THE ROAD THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH MORE SERIOUS ISSUE. ENGINE, BRAKES, RADIO, AC ALL STILL WORK, THE ONLY ISSUE IS AN INABILITY TO ACCELERATE AT ALL SO THE CAR BASICALLY IS IN NEUTRAL AND STARTS LOSING SPEED IMMEDIATELY. HAD TO PUT ON EMERGENCY BLINKERS BOTH TIMES, COAST ACROSS BUSY HIGHWAY LANES TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND IT WAS AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. IT ENDED UP BEING THE THROTTLE BODY, AND CONVENIENTLY JUST 4000 MILES PAST THE WARRANTY EXPIRATION. I WAS TOLD BY TWO SEPARATE MECHANICS THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THEY'VE SEEN MANY TIMES, AND IF IT WERE ONE OF TWO OTHER FORD MODELS, IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PLAN BY FORD. THE CAR IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD AND HAS 60,517 MILES. I AM 517 MILES OVER THE WARRANTY AND I WOULD THINK IN GOOD FAITH, FORD WOULD HONOR THE WARRANTY, BUT I WAS TOLD IT'S IN BLACK AND WHITE. NO ONE CAN EXPLAIN TO ME HOW AND WHAT CAUSED THE CAMSHAFT TO BREAK. "IT'S A FREAK THING" IS NOT A GOOD ANSWER AND DOESN'T ANSWER MY QUESTION. THE TECHNICIAN IS BAFFLED. ACCELERATOR GOES LIMP DURING ACCELERATION AND "WRENCH" ICON APPEARS ON DASH. THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN WITH ELECTRICAL POWER, PRESSING ON ACCELERATOR HAS NO EFFECT. CAR CAN BE COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD. STOPPING AND RE-STARTING THE ENGINE CLEARS THE ISSUE AND CAR WILL ACCELERATE NORMALLY. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MATHEW CURRIES FORD IN NOKOMIS, FL. SERVICE TECH SAYS HES NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THERE SEEMS TO BE ALOT OF OTHER COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I CONTINUED FOR ABOUT A MINUTE, THEN SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. AFTER RESTART, THE CAR RAN NORMALLY WITH NO WARNING INDICATORS. I TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALER WHERE THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, AND WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE I SHUT THE CAR OFF, ANY ERROR CODES WERE CLEARED. HAVING MY 1 YEAR OLD SON IN THE CAR WAS VERY FRIGHTENING, I WAS TERRIFIED I WOULD BE HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AS THE EDGE SUDDENLY TURNS OFF WITH NO WARNING. BEING WE LIVE IN A SOMEWHAT RURAL AREA AND HAVING MY SON, I WAS DETERMINED TO MAKE IT HOME, WHICH THANK GOODNESS I DID SAFELY, UNFORTUNATELY AFTER STALLING OUT 2-3 MORE TIMES. WHILE DRIVING AROUND 65MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE WITH NO ABILITY TO MAINTAIN SPEED. I WAS ON A 3 LANE BRIDGE WITHOUT A SHOULDER AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO NAVIGATE THE VEHICLE SAFELY THROUGH TRAFFIC FROM THE FAR LEFT LANE, ACROSS THE BRIDGE, AND ONTO THE UPCOMING SHOULDER. THE RED "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH THE "AWD" LIGHT. PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL HAD NO IMPACT TO RPM'S (WHICH STAYED AROUND 700RPM). BRAKE SCREECHING FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS HEARD AS MY VEHICLE COASTED ACROSS THE 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC. AFTER COMING TO A STOP, I TURNED OFF VEHICLE AND RESTARTED WITHOUT ANY WARNING LIGHTS AND VEHICLE DROVE NORMALLY. INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN 1 WEEK LATER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, APROXIMATELY 65MPH. RED WRENCH LIGHT, AWD LIGHT. THIS TIME ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. I MAINTAINED MY LANE, PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS, PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL, TURN OFF IGNITION WHILE COASTING, SLIGHTLY TAPPED BRAKE TO RESTART THE CAR. I WAS COMING OFF ON A HIGHWAY EXIST RAMP AND THE ENGINE "SKIPPED" AND SURGED, PROPELLING ME INTO THE REAR OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE "SEE MANUAL" WITH A WRENCH SCREEN CAME UP ON MY DASHBOARD, AS MY CAR SLOWLY BEGAN TO STOP. UPON STOPPING IT BEGAN TO SHAKE AND RUMBLE VIOLENTLY. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND BACK INTO DRIVE TO START DRIVING AGAIN. WHEN I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. THE RPM'S WOULD NOT EVEN MOVE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON IT ROLLED OVER A COUPLE TIMES BEFORE IT ACTUALLY STARTED. THEN IT ACTED LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. THEN TODAY (01/28/2013) I WAS TURNING IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WASN'T EVEN GOING 20 MPH THIS TIME. I HAD TO COAST ONTO THE TURNING LATE OF THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AFTER TRYING TO AVOID BEING HIT BY A COUPLE SEMI'S. I TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE WHERE THEY TESTED IT, NOTHING SEEMED TO BE WRONG WITH IT. THEY EVEN CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD. ON THE WAY HOME, 20 MINUTES LATER IT HAPPENED ON THE SAME BUSY HIGHWAY. ONCE AGAIN, I WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN A COUPLE ACCIDENTS. I HAVE TRIED LOOKING EVERYWHERE TO SEE WHERE THERE IS A SOLUTION BUT I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ONE. I FEEL EXTREMELY UNSAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, AND I ACTUALLY AM CONSIDERING TRADING IT IN. WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 30 AND 35 MPH ON FAIRLY LEVEL TERRAIN BUT SOMEWHAT CURVY MY CAR WILL LUNG VIOLENTLY. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I PULLED OVER THINKING I HAD BEEN HIT IN THE BACK OF MY CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW. MARSHALL MIZE FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO UNLESS THEY CAN REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS CAR HAS ONGOING ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. MY FIRST COMPLAINT WAS 1 MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR. WHEN DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 57 MPH ON A DECLINE IF I EVERY SO SLIGHTLY TOUCH MY BRAKE PAD MY CAR WILL "SLAM" INTO A LOWER GEAR. I HAVE HAD TO BRING THE CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP TO GET IT TO GO BACK INTO NORMAL SHIFT MODE. ACTUALLY HAD A FORD ENGINEER RIDE WITH ME AND TELL ME THAT WAS "NORMAL". TWO WEEKS AGO MY FORD EDGE LIMITED (2011), WHICH I HAD FOR LESS THAN 2 YEARS AND IT HAD ~21000MI, STARTED TO HAVE SERIOUS PROBLEMS. WHILE DRIVING ON ONE OF THE BUSIEST HIGHWAYS IN HOUSTON, THE ACCELERATION SUDDENLY DISAPPEARED (GAS PEDAL WENT LIMP) WHEN I WAS GOING 65-70MPH. THE CAR STILL HAD POWER AND I WAS ABLE TO BREAK AND STEER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. WHILE DOING THAT, ALMOST GOT HIT FROM THE BACK TWICE. AFTER COMPLETE STOP AT EMERGENCY LANE, I RESTARTED THE CAR. IT STARTED FINE, AND I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME, THOUGH I WAS AFRAID TO TAKE A HIGHWAY. NEXT DAY, SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED TWICE, AND BOTH TIMES AT ABOUT THE SAME SPEED. THESE TIMES, HOWEVER, I FELT STRONG VIBRATIONS WHEN RESTARTING THE ENGINE. ALL OF THE TIMES, AN ORANGE WRENCH APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING POWER TRAIN PROBLEMS. AFTER THE SECOND TIME, A LIGHT INDICATING THAT ENGINE NEEDS TO BE SERVICED SOON ALSO APPEARED. THIS LIGHT TURNED OFF ON ITS OWN COUPLE DAYS LATER. I HAD PLENTY OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR BEFORE. THIS WAS THE LAST POINT WHEN MY PATIENCE WITH THIS CAR HAD ENDED. BESIDES, I COULD GET INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. LUCKILY, ALL OF THE TIMES I WAS DRIVING AFTER THE RUSH HOUR AND TRAFFIC WAS NOT TOO BAD. OTHERWISE, I WOULD BE DEFINITELY BE HIT BY SOMEONE. IN ANY CASE, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TRADED IT IN. NO WONDER, I WAS TOLD IN THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS AND OFFERED SERVICING THE CAR. I REFUSED IT, BECAUSE OF MULTIPLE PROBLEMS I HAD WITH THIS CAR BEFORE AND JUST DIDN'T WANT TO KEEP IT ANYMORE. FORD DEFINITELY NEEDS TO RECALL 2011 FORD EDGE WITH SUCH PROBLEMS. I WILL CALL THEM AND COMPLAINT TO THEM AS WELL. FOR NOW, I WOULD RECOMMEND PEOPLE NOT TO BUY 2011 FORD EDGE AS IT HAS SO MANY ISSUES, ESPECIALLY WITH ELECTRICAL WIRING/COMPONENTS AND SYNC. I WAS DRIVING WITH MY TWO CHILDREN ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 65 MILES PER HOUR/AVERAGE SPEED LIMIT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR ACCELERATION WENT LIMP AND THE CAR ENGINE STALLED. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL NO LONGER WORKED AND A LITTLE ORANGE WRENCH FLASHED IN THE DIGITAL DASH. THERE WAS NO WARNING. I PUT ON MY HAZARDS. SHUT OFF THE AR, THEN RESTARTED AND IT WAS FINE. THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES. FORD DEALERSHIP CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND CAN'T "RECREATE" THE PROBLEM. I LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ALL OVER USER GROUP WEBSITES COMPLAINING OF THIS PROBLEM BUT WHEN I CALL FORD CUSTOMER CARE THEY SAY THAT "NO ONE HAS EVER FILED THIS COMPLAINT WITH THEM". CALL FORD. BLOW UP THEIR HOTLINES AND IF YOU ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM GET THE WORD OUT TO THEM AND EVERYONE ELSE INCLUDING CONSUMER AFFAIRS, BBB AND MORE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED. DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, ENGINE SHUTDOWN AND VEHICLE HAD IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER. NO VISIBLE ALERT FOR SURROUNDING TRAFFIC TO AVOID COLLISION. ENGINE DID NOT TURN OFF, BUT ACCELERATION WAS NOT POSSIBLE. I TURNED THE CAR COMPLETELY OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, RESTARTED, AND WAS ABLE TO PROCEED AT NORMAL SPEED ONTO THE INTERSTATE BEFORE IT OCCURRED AGAIN. DEALERSHIP THOUGHT THEY HAD IT FIXED ON MONDAY. THEY SAID IT WAS A COMPUTER COMMUNICATION ISSUE AND THEY RESET IT. THEIR TEST DRIVER HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE SHOP. NEXT DAY, THEY REPEATED YESTERDAY'S FIX, TOLD ME TO PICK IT UP. I HAD A FRIEND DRIVE IT, WHILE I FOLLOWED. WE MADE IT 5 MILES BEFORE IT SHUT DOWN ON THE INTERSTATE DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I USED MY TRUCK TO BLOCK TRAFFIC SO WE COULD MAKE IT TO THE MEDIAN. DEALERSHIP HAD IT TOWED BACK. ONE WEEK LATER, THE DEALER SAYS IT'S THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT ARE NOT CONFIDENT IT IS SAFE TO RELEASE, AND ARE NOT POSITIVE THAT'S THE PROBLEM. I HAVE READ MANY BLOGS ON FORD'S COMPUTER OR FUEL RELATED ISSUES THAT APPEAR SIMILAR, YET WITH SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT DIAGNOSIS. MY CONCERN IS SAFETY. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE FREEWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN HER VEHICLE WENT "LIMP". WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN "LIMP' MODE THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION AND YOU CAN FEEL HUGE VIBRATIONS AS IF THE ENGINE WAS ABOUT TO DIE. SHE WAS FORCED TO MANEUVER HER WAY THROUGH THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC WITH HER HAZARDS ON IN ORDER TO GET TO A "SAFE" SPOT. THE ONLY WAY SHE WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE SITUATION WAS TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART IT. THE ON BOARD COMPUTER HAD A WRENCH LIGHT UP AND A MESSAGE ASKING TO LOOK IN OUR MANUAL. PER OUR MANUAL THIS IS A POWERTRAIN ISSUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES IN LESS THAN FOUR DAYS AND TWICE OUR THREE MONTH OLD SON WAS WITH US/HER. WAS DRIVING IN MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC GOING ABOUT 50MPH ON A HIGHWAY. CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND WENT "LIMP" WITHOUT ANY NOTICE. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. WAS ABLE TO GET CAR TO SIDE OF ROAD BEFORE IT COMPLETELY STOPPED. IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING AS CARS WERE CLOSE BEHIND ME AND COULD HAVE EASILY REAR-ENDED ME. HUSBAND CAME TO THE SCENE AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART CAR AND DRIVE IT. SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. HAD CAR TOWED TO LOCAL SHOP OWNED BY FORD DEALER. THEY CONCLUDED THAT WE HAD CARBON BUILD UP IN THE FUEL SYSTEM THAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THEY CLEANED OUT THE "GUNK" AND CHARGED US $350. FOUR DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME I HAD BOTH OF MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND MY DOG. CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION IN THE MIDDLE OF 5PM TRAFFIC! WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER IN SHOPPING CENTER BEFORE IT COMPLETELY DIED. TOWED IT BACK TO DEALER. THIS TIME THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, BUT RECALIBRATED IT (WHATEVER "IT" IS). I'M TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS CAR AGAIN FOR FEAR THAT IT WILL HAPPEN WHEN I'M GOING 65MPH ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY! IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT HAPPENS AGAIN. AFTER BUYING MY 2011 FORD EDGE FROM CARMAX AND DRIVING IT FOR 35 DAYS, MY CAR STARTED TO HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. IT WAS CLANKING, SLOW ACCELERATING, VIBRATING, WHEN YOU WOULD STOP IT WOULDN'T PROCEED WHEN GAS APPLIED UNTIL IT WOULD LOUDLY THUMP AND LURCH FORWARD. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT NEEDED THE PART (AT4Z7251A). THE PROBLEM IS THERE ARE ONLY 2 (AT4Z7251A) IN THE WHOLE UNITED STATES! THOSE ARE ON HOLD FOR CUSTOMERS OR THEY APPEAR IN INVENTORY ON COMPUTER BUT THEY ARE NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. IT ALSO APPEARS THAT THIS PART HAS BEEN ON BACK ORDER FOR A VERY VERY VERY LONG TIME .I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I AM THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM SINCE THIS PART IS USED FOR AT LEAST 5 DIFFERENT TYPE FORD CARS. TWICE AFTER BACKING UP AND SHIFTING THE CAR FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, THE CAR STALLED/SHUT OFF. THE FIRST TIME IT OCCURRED AFTER BACKING ONTO A BUSY STREET. WHILE PUSHING ON THE GAS WITH NO FORWARD MOVEMENT, I SAW A MESSAGE DISPLAYED IN THE DASH THAT THE CAR MUST BE IN PARK TO START. I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT IN THAT INSTANCE I HAD ENOUGH TIME TO START THE VEHICLE AND MOVE PRIOR TO TRAFFIC REACHING ME AS IT OCCURRED ON A BUSY STREET. THE APPROXIMATE DATE FOR THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS IN JUNE OF 2011. THE SECOND WAS ON JULY 5, 2011, WITH APPROXIMATELY 2,450 MILES. ON NOVEMBER 3, 2011, AND NOVEMBER 29, 2011, MY CARS BATTERY DIED RESULTING IN NEEDING TO CALL FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO TOW IT TO THE DEALER. PRIOR TO THAT, I TWICE HAD A BATTERY SAVER MESSAGE DISPLAYED AFTER I SHUT OFF MY CAR, ALTHOUGH EVERYTHING WAS OFF. WHILE AT THE DEALER THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED, THE BATTERY DIED FOR THE THIRD TIME AFTER APPROXIMATELY 8 HOURS. THE BATTERY TEST ALWAYS REPORTED THAT THE BATTERY WAS OKAY. AFTER A WEEK AT THE SHOP THEY WERE STILL UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. TWO TIMES MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE THAT I HAD THE KEY IN MY POSSESSION WITHIN THE VEHICLE AND THEREFORE WOULD NOT START. I DO NOT KNOW IF ALL OF THESE ISSUES ARE POSSIBLY INTERCONNECTED WITH THE COMPUTER SYSTEM.
