This issue happened back June 2025 when I make a wide turn, the car automatically go into limp mode and all the lights on the dashboard that is related to the brake system comes on, so for example, the advanced traction control sensor, the brake mode, the traction mode and the ABS mode and this is very dangerous because I realize when I am driving locally, and if I’m in the middle of a major intersection, I can be struck because I would have to immediately turn my car off turn it back on and then it will start moving again. Sometimes it takes a while for it to start moving again.
Number one my brakes are soft they say needs abs and their is recall but not on My vin number but on Ford edge 2011if it's on one should be on all recall safety is without brakes and my camera is black again recalls on other ford edge but again not mine please help
When applying breaks in the snow, the antilock breaks fail. I loose control of breaking and car acts like the breaks are gone. This has happened many times in the snow. Car has been tied several times for no breaks. When it gets to the shop breaks are working. Shop released any air in antilock breaks but this continues to happen when breaks are locked up.
This is in reference to Field Service Action 13N02 with codes P2195 and P2197. There was an extended warranty, but I never knew that as I bought the vehicle pre-owned. I am a college student and the vehicle poses a danger as I am not able to stop every time. I called the local Ford dealership, and without even looking at the vehicle. He said, yes we know about the issue, but it's to late for you to have it repaired for free. I am filing a complaint with with the Wyoming Attorney General as well, and looking into a civil action. I want to make sure I document everything in case there is a serious injury or death.
As I applied the brakes to stop the vehicle, the vehicle didn't automatically stop. It felt as if I didn't press the brakes. The vehicle continued. I will take the vehicle to the mechanic. The vehicle hasn't been inspected yet. There were no warning indicators.
Power steering leak(took it 3times to get it serviced), breaks(leak), transmission fluid leak(have to refill transmission fluid every week), electrical (dash board lights go off and on sometimes and do other funny stuff), back up My camera doesn’t work(car has blind spots so I need the camera to work), roof windows (work when they want), trunk door (closes by itself hitting me at closing). Check lights, tire light is on constantly and on since I bought the car, also oil light but now only sometimes since I keep putting oil and transmission fluid. And has something missing on the front windshield and sensor device of some sort And sometimes when I break I feel the vehicle wanting to go faster instead of stopping. Jerks. I took my vehicle to ford and they pretty much ignored me making me there was no solution. No reports or anything. I called several times to take my car to get serviced telling them I felt unsafe but they pretended they couldn’t here me they didn’t want to deal with me cause my vehicle was too old 2011 ford edge limited. I don’t think it’s old I need a little guidance here before I take it to the next step. Please help me fix my vehicle my insurance at the time told me it has two recalls and ford shined me off three or four times telling me no instead of helping
ABS module valves stick open resulting in low soft brake pedal. Master cylinder has been replaced and vacuum bled with problem still occurring. I feel this is a safety item and ford should stand behind this issue till the end of service life of the vehicle. the repair part is hard to find and expensive.
I have a 2011 ford edge sel the brakes are hard as a rock causing more force to be used to stop the vehicle even being driven under 5mph. This is a major saftey issue that should've been in ford's previous recall. The vehicle was manufactured at the Oakville plant in Canada which was ford's recalled vehicles. I contacted ford and they informed me it was vin specific which my vehicle wasn't covered by the recall but yet it's having the same issues as the others that were recalled from the same assembly facility. I was told to take it to a dealership and keep the receipts of it being fixed just incase there is a recall on the vehicle later on. I'm not the only person having issues with these issues with less then 200,000 miles on their vehicles. Ford knew there was a problem with the vehicles which they should have recalled all the ones from that assembly plant and fixed them.
My brakes are hard as a rock cause me to use more force on the brakes to stop and there is hissing coming from brake booster when I apply the brakes on my vehicle causing prolonged stopping distance called ford and they said there was no recalls on that vin which their "recalls is vin specific" yet all the vehicles use the same brake booster that is installed on this vehicle. It was hard to stop even going at low speeds under 10mph
My brakes are not working at all brake goes to the floor
Brakes they do not stop it is available for inspection , I was on the highway when the brake pedal went to the floor and I had to roll to stop and yes Jtr repair has confirmed the master cylinder and ABS SUSTEM IS FAULTY no warning it just happened and it happened about a week ago the car is currently parked
Brakes going to floor and very little stopping power. HCU failure caused by DOT3 brake fluid causing dump valve in block to stay stuck open. 2nd replacement valve from Ford and again it happened almost causing an accident. This issue is becoming to common across these HCU ford uses. This should be recalled and consumers should be advised. Ford advised that we maybe try DOT4 brake fluid and purchase another HCU. This is our 3rd one in 6 years.
Hard brake with a whistle sound while pushing
Hit a pothole and brake pedal went to floor. I replaced master cylinder last year and new fluids. I bled brakes twice and pedal still going to floor. I’ve been installing brakes for 40 years and this isn’t right. Research tells me it might be HCU unit but I can’t afford $1500. Has this unit been recalled? Way too many people have had this problem with multiple years of ford edge’s.
Power boost problem on my Ford Edge. Why is my VIN not on the recall? I am having this problem as are several thousand of other people. Hopefully this gets properly addressed. Thank you
Every time I press the brakes, there is a hissing sound and the brake pedals go all the way to floor. This causes the vehicle to have low braking power and barely stop. The problem has been reproduced by an independent service center. There are no warning lamps or messages on the vehicle.
There is a CSP 13N02 regading an issue my vehicle currently experincing and is at the dealer for repairs. Im being told Ford issued this CSP for customers with the 2010-2014 Ford Edge but his VIN was not included. I'm being quoted out of pocket almost 2 grand for this repair. My Break pedal goes all the way down to the floor bed having to put a lot of effort in stopping the vehicle. Per the CSP 13N02 If your vehicle is not serviced, the tear will eventually expand and the pedaleffort required to stop the vehicle will gradually increase. However, in all cases, the fundamental vehicle braking system remains functional. In the interest of customer satisfaction, Ford Motor Company is extending. The limited warranty on the brake booster to ten (10) years or 150,000 miles from the warranty start date of your vehicle, whichever occurs first. This is a one-time repair program. If your vehicle has already exceeded the mileage limit, this coverage will last through November 30, 2025.
My brakes pedal was going down and I called w.w. auto where I got it from and he said it sounded like a master brake cylinder and he came and got it said he replaced it but 3 weeks later it did it again and he told me to take it to Roberts garage and he said he called them and said the part he bought from AutoZone had a life time warranty and he took them the receipt and got a replacement for the part and they kept my vehicle 2 days and said they bleed them and said there was air in the brake line and told me to bring it back if it did it again and he would put the new part on and I'M GOING TO take it back because it doesn't feel right why did they not have put the replacement part on ? Do you have any suggestions
The brake pedal goes to the floor with no warning. It has happened many times before. I'm on my second master cylinder, it has all new brake pads and calipers all the way around. It has been in the shop 4 times and no one can figure out what is causing this. There are no leaks and all the rubber hoses are in good shape.
The Ford Edge has a known and documented issue with the brake booster failing and having to be replaced numerous times. I recently had to apply my brakes suddenly to avoid a collision with a car that cut me off. After noticed the brakes lost pressure and appear to be compromised. This is the second time this has happened after already replacing the same brake booster issue less than 3 years ago. While looking online this appears to be an ongoing problem with this make and model but has not been addressed by the manufacturer. This causes safety issues and repetitive - expensive repair issues.
Got my car serviced at AAA Car Care Center. After completed the brakes did not work properly, brought the vehicle back and it was checked thoroughly. AAA came to the conclusion that the brake booster completely failed, all other components of the brake system were checked and working properly. Manager of AAA explained this is a Ford only issue and that it was a common issue with my model. My safety and the safety of others were put at risk as I almost crashed into the back of a car stopped at a light. The problem of the brake booster was confirmed by AAA Car Care Center in Tampa, FL. Vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while his son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal locked and was inoperable. Due to the brake pedal failure, the vehicle crashed into a nearby curb. The contact stated that his son described the brake pedal as it was hard as a brick. The damages were a fractured passenger front side lower control arm and a fractured front passenger front side drive axle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and diagnosed with a failed brake booster and failed brake master cylinder. The brake booster and brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, however, the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under the recall. While coming to a stop, the brake pedal became very hard to depress. After taking it to a service facility, they determined it was the brake power booster and I should have received a service advisory from Fordabout this potential failure with this part. Never received anything about this problem from Ford and after reviewing this problem with other owners on the internet, other people experienced the same problem. It is obvious Ford knows this is a faulty part and is putting people at risk of getting killed without a recall.
13N02 – Extended Warranty Coverage on Brake Booster – 2010-2013 Ford Edge & Lincoln MKX. My break booster required repair and when I went to the dealership and called Ford they stated that the vehicle had to have less than 150,000 miles and it is not 10 years old which ever comes 1st. The break boosters are starting to fail on cars with less than 150,000 miles, but older than 10 years. This is causing a driving hazard as the breaks went out while driving.

The break booster on my car went out, this part has been reported by several people, because it went out it put myself and my family in danger as the car wouldn’t stop unless you put extreme pressure when breaking. This is extremely dangerous and should be something Ford fixes for free! I had to pay $500 to get this part fixed! I was in fear for my life driving my car and this part is supposed to last the life of the car!

I had to brake fast & hard because of another driver cutting in front of me & my brakes went all the way down to floor, no stopping! Thankfully I was able to pull off road to avoid hitting any other vehicle. I did some research & apparently there are over 300 complaints that have been reported (how many not reported ?). How many more of the same issue does it take to recall? Or does there have to be accidents involved before ford does something? I have had numerous fords, however; due to the extreme safety issue addressed by so many with (thank god just missed accidents) that DOES NOT SEEM TO CONCERN FORD AT ALL FOR OUR SAFETY to recall this BRAKE BOOSTER ISSUE. I will NEVER BUY another FORD unless they do something & if someone gets hurt before they do, I DEFINITELY WILL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN! SAFETY & CUSTOMER SERVICE is my purchase of choice.
Brakes are feeling spongy and car use making a hissing sound when applying their brake and car doesn’t fully stop without slamming down on the brakes. Brakes have been changed and no leaks were detected. Was told most likely the brake booster.

Have had 2 boosters put in. Still have pedal fade or pedal stiffness. Also had HCU put in as well as Anti lock brake unit put in. Still have same brake problems. Also during this whole fiasco the new pads and rotors got destroyed with in 3000 miles of installation due to brakes locking up while driving and not releasing the pads. We have over 5000.00 dollars invested into brakes and still have a brake problem . I have call the 1-800 customer service number over 5 times asking to speak to a supervisor and have been told the will call back with in 24 hours and the have never called back. About 3 months when I got the vehicle I had to take it to El Cajon Ford because the brakes suddenly stopped working properly and I had to nearly push the pedal to the floor to stop. It suddenly lost the pressure needed to properly stop. The vehicle was still under warranty at that time. That was about over 4 years ago. Now I find that the same problem has arose again. I took it took it to a auto repair shop to find the part I need is back ordered. There is a recall on all ford edge vehicles for this brake problem however after several calls and conversations with ford I find for some reasons my Ford edge is not included for reasons I can’t understand and the parts available are reserved for other recall vehicles when my car has the same issues. In addition, a less than a week after I received the vehicle my son along with his baby daughter were on the freeway when suddenly the a tire just blew out causing them to skid across the highway, luckily no one was hurt, but 2 weeks later another tire just blew out on me as soon as I entered the highway on my way home from work.I replaced all 4 tires however about once a month the tire pressure runs low although I had new tires.
Brakes have been going to the floor for a complete stop, have had to slowly brake a lot sooner when coming to any kind of stop. Within the past two days my brakes have been making a whistling sound when brakes not applied. My brake lights stay on while car is in park. Dropping my daughter off at school and applying my brakes my car died in a long line of cars causing me to have to apply the emergency brake.
I have heard several service repair technicians advise the Ford Edge 2010 to 2014 have issues with their brake booster. This needs to be recalled and repaired for free.
Vehicle was towed to independent repair shop after 2 different dealer service departments failed to return repeated attempts by phone to schedule repair of brakes symptomatic for booster failure (ext. Warranty program, but car is beyond date cutoff due to pandemic). After booster and master cylinder replacement and flush with new brake fluid, mechanuc is reporting that brakes are still bad. Testing and following work procedures, HCU is testing bad. HCU part not available for 6 months. Contacted manufacturer about HCU failure with no DTC codes or warning lights. Asked about existing recall of HCU for other model/years with exact same symptoms and Ford national customer service said my vehicle isn't covered at this time. This is a critical safety failure that occurs without warning and without error codes. It is a known problem for models both before and after this model year. Currently, estimate for repairs is about $4,000. The needed repairs are solely the result of manufacturer known safety defects that should be recalls and their dealers failure to provide timely response to service requests. In my case the brake failures (both Booster and HCU) did not, but nearly did cause an accident,.and the HCU has caused loss of use for 6 months.
The car would only brake when pushing the brake pedal to the floor. Once diagnosed it was found the HCU needed to be replaced and was told this was on National Backorder. This car went to a mechanic for 2.5 months due to this. And I took it to the Ford Dealership after being told it could be fixed. There is a recall for other years of this same model for this part.

The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that she would need to pay repair fee as the VIN was not included in a recall and Ford Campaign Number: 13N02 had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

I was driving to work early morning, roads were wet due to light layer of wet snow. Brakes worked normal when stopping at a stop sign and traffic light. When traffic start moving a vehicle in front of me was going to turn left I applied my brakes to slow down, however when the brake pedal went to the floor it felt like I was going to hit the car. I continued to keep pressing on the brake and finally stopped. When arriving at work the brakes reacted the same when attempting to stop. I checked the brake fluid it was filled. Furthermore there was no indication on my dash regarding brake service needed. I contacted my independent mechanic who informed me to have the car towed or drive it very slow with my flashers on. He also felt it was the brake booster because Ford was aware of this problem so they extended warranty coverage for the booster to 10 years of service or 150,000 miles. My mechanic contacted the dealer who said that it was not covered under the warranty since it was be on 10 years. However I have only 97,580 miles but over the 10year warranty. Besides replacing the brake booster the hydraulic control unit had to be replaced. Bottom line is the cost amounted to $1,750.68. I can't understand why Ford Motor Company has not issued a recall or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not required a recall on these effective brake components. This definitely is a safely related defect when one looks at the number of complaints filed with NHTSA. As we know the steering and brake are major safety components of any vehicle. From my research and review of the complaints it appears that both Ford Motor Company and the NHTSA have other agendas that are more important then a faulty brake component. It just a matter of time before a major accident happens where someone is critically injured. I sure hope and pray it is not a child.
It was the first snowfall of the season. Roads were slippery so my speed was reduced and I was being cautious. As I was approaching a stop sign my anti-lock brakes kicked in. Ever since then my brake pedal has been very soft. At times it felt like I have had to push my brake pedal all the way to the floor in order to stop. Roads are still slippery and when approaching other stop signs (in our development with no other traffic around) I tried to get my anti-locks to work and now they don't kick in and the brake pedal is very soft. There are no indicators on the dash and when doing a "system check" through the computer, it says the brakes are ok.
Without warning or partial failure the brake pedal goes near to the floor before limited breaking function. The vehicle is not capable of emergency braking. Local mechanic advised that the brake booster had to be replaced. It was replaced. I was never told that the HCU module could be the issue. Consequently, the issue still occurs: very soft pedal and very little brakes. After researching, the same identical problem was posted online by numerous Ford Edge owners of my year and other years. Ford Motor Company (Ford) Recall No. 19S54 – Certain 2006-2010 Model Year Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln MKZ Vehicles Equipped with Anti-Lock Brake Systems – Anti-Lock Brake System Hydraulic Control Unit Valve Function. It did not include the Ford Edge. There have been several NHTSA follow up and Ford continued to work with NHTSA to investigate and engaged in ongoing discussion with NHTSA. This issue has gone long enough. Local mechanics are not familiar with the recommended procedure to fix the problem and that it would be prudent to have a properly trained Ford mechanic fix the issue. A recall is necessary so that Ford Edge owners can be notified of a potential danger.
Brake is extremely soft and must be pushed all the way to the floor to function. Both master cylinder and HCU were replaced with no correction to the problem. It is being inspected again.

While depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle the pedal went to the floor and the braking distance was extended. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who replaced the rear brake pads. Had an issue when driving where I had to press all the way to the floor in order to brake. Checked fluid reservoir and it was empty. put brake fluid in, and it was ok for a couple of days. Now it's doing it again. The brake fluid is still in the reservoir so I don't know what the issue is. After reading forums and complaints, this seems to be an extremely common issue with Ford Edges. This is unsafe.
I noticed one morning driving to work that when I applied the brakes the pedal became a little bit harder to push to get the same amount of braking action. When I got to work I had the mechanic there take a look at the car because I was worried about driving it home. He checked all of the brake system and could not find a problem. He took it for a test drive and said the brakes worked fine. I drove it home and no problem. A few days later I'm on the way to work and as I approached an intersection the light changed and I applied the brakes and this time the pedal went down closer to the floor and by the time I stopped my car was 1/2 way into the intersection. If a car had been in front of me I would have been in an accident. Again the mechanic looked it over and while he was driving it did it to him one time. He stated in his 45 years as a mechanic he had never seen one where the brakes work fine, then lose power brakes, and then they work fine for awhile. You can't know when it's going to happen. You can drive it for a week and it's fine and then it will do it. The mechanic did some checking and found out that Ford knows about the issue and offered a Customer satisfaction program where they extended the warranty coverage to 150,000 miles or 10 years. This car is a 2011 Ford Edge so it is 11 years old but it only has 98,000 miles. During the Covid 19 shutdown the car was hardly driven for 18 months. Ford says it's out of warranty. How is a failing brake booster NOT a safety recall? The mechanic said brake boosters rarely if ever need replacing and certainly not before 100,000 miles. I can't afford the cost of the repair because gas prices. Is it going to take people being killed in crashes before Ford is forced to recall the car? Brakes are the most important system on the car along with steering. The brake booster randomly not working increases the stopping distance and when it quits your reaction is to push real hard and then the brakes grab.
Valve inside Hydraulic Control Unit is sticking causing a soft and quickly fading brake pedal making it extremely difficult to stop quickly to avoid an accident. This is a serious problem.
Brakes must be pumped to make a good grab. My mechanic informed me several cars like mine have had the same issue. New master cylinder and booster are needed. Making this report in case this becomes an issue for other Ford Edge owners. The brakes have always been this way since I bought the vehicle, two years ago. The issue has just gotten worse and I took it to my mechanic on the date listed below.

I went to stop at Kwik Star and stepped on brake and there was significantly diminished stopping power. Because of the curbed sidewalk in front of the building was able to stop. The remainder of my trip home I allowed more stopping distance and was able to return vehicle to my house. I did call my local repair shop and the Power Brake Booster assembly was diagnosed as the issue and replaced on 8/12/2022. The mileage on my vehicle is 79963

The brakes went out while exiting the expressway at 65 mph. I was able to control the vehicle but had to have it towed to the mechanic. My brake pads and rotors had to be replaced (400+) then I was told that the brake booster had to be replaced also. Another tow to a dealership and now a MONTH later, since parts were hard to come by, I have to pay almost $1000 out of pocket. I was told by Ford customer service that the customer satisfaction warranty expired a year before and I was never notified of this issue since it was not considered a RECALL. There have been many people with this same problem and I am completely appalled at how this is being handled by ford. I never even knew what a brake booster was before this and now I have to pay out of pocket because FORD does not want to take responsibility. I will NEVER buy another ford in my life time.
My car is a 2011 ford edge sport awd and the brake lights will stay on after using the brakes. It is available for inspection. It is a safety hazard because others around me are not always seeing an accurate signal. I have not taken it in to be looked at yet, i just have been lifting up on the brake pedal after i use the brakes. there is on warning or notifications stating the brake lights are still on.
I was driving my 2011 Ford Edge in November 2021 on the highway in heavy traffic. As I approached a changing traffic light I slowed down and then applied the break to stop at the red light at which point the break pedal went all the way to the floor with no resistance forcing me to go into the intersection against traffic. The car finally came to a stop on its own. My husband had it towed to a local Ford dealership to have it diagnosed. The diagnosis we were provided was that my Ford Edge needed a new break booster and a HCU module. One important detail that should be noted is that in July 2020 I received notice of the 13N02 Extended Warranty from Ford regarding a faulty brake booster. I had it replaced immediately. This is the same part that failed in November 2021. On the day of my brake failure, I had driven my Edge 10,000 miles and for 16 months since I had the warrantied part replaced. After my husband spoke with corporate multiple times it became very apparent that they did not share in our concern about the part failure or have any intention of ensuring this did not happen to anyone else. Why have they not issued a recall when Ford acknowledged the part was faulty? Why did my replacement part fail after only 10,000 miles? Are you still producing faulty break parts? Can you guarantee that my third brake booster will not be faulty? Why did I have no warning at all when my breaks went out? Is Ford waiting for a death to occur to do something about it? Everyone in that intersection was incredibly lucky that day. This could have resulted in a major traffic accident or even a fatality. My car is currently at the shop awaiting repair, but I am scared to get back behind the wheel of my car. When I look up my car's break booster failure online I see hundreds of complaints against Ford regarding the Edge and the faulty brake booster and HCU module. How can I trust your product if you are unwilling to stand behind it?
Brakes became hard and vehicle wouldn’t stop. Took to dealer and was diagnosed as a faulty brake booster. Discovered this is a known factory defect specific to our vehicle (letters sent out in 2014 but we didn’t get one) Ford won’t repair free of charge because the vehicle is over 10 years. It’s a granny car driven rarely (51000 miles), in show room shape, and didn’t manifest the condition until now. Even if we had received a letter and had it inspected years ago, we all know it would not have shown the problem as it would not have existed yet. We can’t afford repairs caused by the manufacturer. This is the second time we’ve been screwed by Ford. The first was over Ford Sync and their black screen. This current condition is dangerous and could kill somebody. Ford needs to recall these vehicles, not try to play it where owners have to “discover” factory defects and then fight to get them repaired.
All of a sudden breaks felt like they didn't work; I needed to apply a lot of pressure to get vehicle to stop; felt like I needed to push breaks through the floor. Upon doing research Ford has issued a Customer Satisfaction Program (13N02) which extended warranty for 10 years or 150,000 miles whichever came first. This issue wasn't sent out by Ford until 2013 so basically because my in-service date was 11/29/2010 they now won't cover the repairs. Seems dangerous to not fix this and issue a Recall and instead issue a Customer Satisfaction Program which I loose 3 years on since Ford didn't even notice it until 2013.
While driving home for a visit my daughter informed me that the brakes on her car had a very soft pedal and very little brakes. After inspecting the brake system myself there were no indications of a fluid leak, fluid level was normal, no brake failure warning on the instrument panel. After researching, the same identical problem was posted online by numerous Ford Edge owners of my year and other years. There seems to be a failure of the HCU unit on the brake system. This is a very dangerous situation as the vehicle gives you no warning that you have a braking problem until you press the pedal and it goes to the floor. How this has not been recalled is mind boggling.
Wipers won't shut off, they randomly turn on even while driving on sunny days. Anti-lock brake system acts up, but sensor doesn't detect that there's an issue with it. Causes problems stopping when acting up. No warning lights come on to show that there's anything wrong, just can't really stop.

That was the most scary feeling ever no warning light or anything to let me no my brakes where bad.I took my car back the Jd.Byrider they inspected it and said it need a master cylinder they replaced it brakes still doing the same thing they said they was going to try another one then they said it was the brake booster going out or has gone out for me not to worry they sent it to ford they said it had an r dye fed warranty.The car gets to Ford they took a week to look at it they checked it out and said it was the hydraulic control unit that was Faulty. Which would be bout 1800 to fix. I noticed that there has been serval complaints about the same thing that has happen to others brakes just going out with no warning and being told it was a master cylinder.Luckly no injuries has happen yet.My car only has 107,449 miles on it.
Brake Booster issue. Vehicle has been checked by car repair shop (Busse Automotive). Golf Mill Ford has told me car is past extended coverage. Vehicle purchased 2/2011 Having booster replaced by Busse Automotive. Ford Mechanics have been on strike and dealers are backed up, as this is my only vehicle I need to have it replaced to drive safely. The car is in the shop now. Busse Automotive said Ford will work with you on this.
Twice now, while driving the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I had to release pedal and hit them again for the car to stop. Thankfully I did'nt hit anyone. The Ford Edge I drive has all new brakes on it, and this happened before I had the brakes done and after. I check online and found many ford edge owners with the same problem. Its "not" the brake booster, that would be a pedal thats hard to push, I got to believe its a problem with a seal in the master cylinder. I understand Ford is aware of this. Maybe a kick in the pants from the NHTSA will get them to fix this before somebody gets killed. I'm just glad some kid did'nt jump out in front of my car went it happened to me!
The brake booster for my vehicle was starting to decline and make it harder for me to stop my car. When driving my vehicle my brake pedal became very hard to push. While trying to stop it took longer to stop the vehicle from hitting any car in front of me. Problem has been confirmed by servicing dealership. Only been inspected by the folks at the dealership. There were no indications or warnings that the brake booster was going bad. There was an Extended Warranty Coverage issued by Ford in 2014. The campaign was 13N02 My warranty start date was December 2010. The extended coverage was 150,000 miles or 10 yrs from warranty start date. That puts me 8 months past the coverage period, but my vehicle only has 134,000 miles to date. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you
Brakes become hard and then soft. Brake has to be depressed to the floor to stop vehicle. Master Cylinder replaced, Brake booster replaced. Problem is not solved. ABS is the next guess. With all the problems with brakes why isn't Ford taking care of this issue?

I have had a Soft brake pedal issue ever since I purchased the car in 2012. Because of the soft brake pedal the driving experience is awful. I do more coasting driving that actual driving sine I have to make room for the soft pedal to be applied. My heart sinks when I have to abruptly brake when cut off by another driver and the brakes hesitate to react precisely. If it weren't for coasting I'd be in multiple accidents already. Instead I've put up with coasting driving experience which is a really horrible experience for me and the guy in back of me. I have had my brakes bled, pads and rotors changed multiple times to rectify the issue to no avail. I am addressing this issue because research suggests that it is a failed abs Hydraulic Unit and has described my braking situation perfectly. I've even had the situation temporarily fixed after an abs event, but it only last for less than a week then it goes back to being soft. This actually happened only one time. I believe this is a matter of safety and confidence behind the wheel which I have not benefited from since owning the vehicle.

THE ABS AND/OR BRAKING SYSTEM ON A MODERN VEHICLE SHOULD NOT FAIL. THE COST TO REPAIR AND ADDRESS SAID ISSUE WAS $1,912.85. BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO HAVE THE BRAKE ISSUE FIXED AND THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED. A WEEK LATER THE SAME ISSUE OF A SOFT BRAKE PEDAL OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING. BROUGHT THE CAR BACK INTO THE SHOP AND THEY BELIEVE IT MAY BE THE HCU, WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. THIS TIME THE PEDAL WOULD NOT ONLY BE STIFF AT START UP BUT WOULD ALSO BECOME STIFF WHILE DRIVING AND WAS ACCOMPANIED BY A HIGH PITCHED RINGING NOISE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER AGAIN BUT THIS TIME THE COST WAS PLACED ON ME. NOW HERE WE ARE IN JULY 2020 WITH APPROXIMATELY 110,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE THE STIFF PEDAL PROBLEM HAS BEEN COMING UP AGAIN AND HAS PROGRESSED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR WHILE DRIVING WITH GREATLY REDUCED BRAKING POWER. THE FORD DEALERSHIP AGAIN SAYS THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER IS PART OF THE PROBLEM, ALONG WITH THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE DEALER & FORD MOTOR CO. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE FORD AND MANUFACTURERS TO THOROUGHLY RESEARCH THESE TYPE COMPLAINTS AND ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE MULTIPLE DEATHS OCCUR DUE TO VEHICLE BEING UNABLE TO STOP. FAMILY LIVES ARE AT RISK WHEN DRIVING THEIR VEHICLES THAT PRESENT THIS INTERMITTENT BRAKING PROBLEM. ADDITIONALLY, THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN I HAVE HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES WHILE IN PARK OR PUT IN NEUTRAL BEFORE PUTTING INTO DRIVE MODE. NOW, 2/2020, VEHICLE IS DRINKING BRAKE FLUID AND MECHANIC ADVISES REPLACEMENT OF BRAKE BOOSTER....AGAIN. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY OF PARTS IN THIS FORD VEHICLE. FIRST AND LAST FORD FOR ME.

THEY GOT REALLY BAD A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO AND WE WENT TO A DEALERSHIP AFTER LEARNING ABOUT A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THE DEALERSHIP THOUGHT THAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM. SO ON 8/9/18 WITH 99,703 MILES ON OUR CAR THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS REPLACED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FORD ISSUED. WE THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED UNTIL 11/26/19. MY WIFE WAS LEAVING WORK AND IT WAS A LITTLE ICY. SHE ACTIVATED THE ABS LEAVING HER WORK PARKING LOT AND THE PEDAL AGAIN WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THIS TIME IT DID NOT COME BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATIONAL BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR TO WORK. THE CAR WAS AGAIN TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME THEY HAD 3 OTHER VEHICLES COME IN WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM IN THE LAST WEEK. AFTER BLEEDING THE BRAKES AND RUNNING TESTS IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT THAT CONTROLS THE ABS SYSTEM WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 127,000 MILES AND THE COST OF THIS REPAIR IS $1800. WE HAVE CONTACTED FORD MULTIPLE TIMES AFTER DOING TO SEARCHES ON THE INTERNET AND FIGURING OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT FORD IS AWARE OF AND WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT. OUR CALLS HAVE FALLEN ON DEAF EARS AT FORD AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD ONLY SAY THEY ARE SORRY FOR THE PROBLEMS WE ARE HAVING AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GEORGE WAIKEM FORD (LOCATED AT 4321 LINCOLN WAY E, MASSILLON, OH 44646, (330) 478-1801) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS TOTAL BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE DUE TO A FAILURE OF THE HYDRAULIC PUMP, BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, AND HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION THEY DETERMINED THAT THE HCU UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER LOOKING ON THE INTERNET I FOUND SEVERAL (OVER 100) REPORTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE ON THE EXACT SAME MAKE AND MODEL, SOME OF WHICH ENDED IN INJURY DUE TO THE FAILURE. ALL REPORTS HAVE STATED THAT FORD HAS CURRENTLY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS ISSUE AND ISSUE A RECALL. AFTER ALMOST $1000 IN BRAKE REPAIRS IT WAS FINALLY DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE BOOSTER HAD FAILED. THIS DEFECT IS KNOWN TO THE MANUFACTURER WHO ISSUED CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N02 WHICH ALLOWED REPLACEMENT OF THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT FOR VEHICLES WITH UP TO 150,000 MILES OR THROUGH JANUARY 15, 2015. THIS PROBLEM PRESENTS A DANGEROUS SITUATION, PARTICULARLY WHEN BACKING THE VEHICLE WHEN THE PROBLEM IS MORE PROMINENT. FORD DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED WITH REGARDS TO THE COMPLAINT AND STATED THAT DUE TO THE MILEAGE THAT THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE 13N02 REPAIR OR OTHER PROGRAMS. WE DROVE AROUND 6 MILES WHEN IT DID HAPPEN TO ME AS I BRAKED AND ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLES HEADED MY WAY WERE QUITE A BIT DOWN THE STREET, AND I ALLOWED MYSELF AMPLE TIME TO GET ACROSS WERE THIS TO HAPPEN. HOWEVER, THIS WAS AT NIGHT WHEN THAT STREET ISN'T BUSY. WE LIVE OFF OF THIS STREET SO AVOIDING DURING THE DAY ISN'T AN OPTION. DURING THE DAY WHEN TRAFFIC IS BUSY AND CONSTANT, THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO ALLOW THAT MUCH TIME TO GET ACROSS SAFELY. IN THE MONTHS LEADING UP TO THESE POWER FAILURES, THERE WERE AT LEAST THREE INSTANCES WHERE WE WERE IN A DRIVE THRU OR STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT WHERE POWER WOULD BE LOST, BUT NEVER WHEN THE CAR WAS ACTUALLY IN MOTION AS HAPPENED TWICE ON 1/22/2019. I FOUND A FORUM WHERE THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED MANY TIMES NOT ONLY TO FORD, BUT TO THE NHTSA AND NOTHING BY WAY OF A RECALL HAS BEEN CALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM AND IT APPEARS THAT SOMEONE WILL BE KILLED PRIOR TO SOMETHING BEING DONE. I'VE READ THAT THE THROTTLE BODY SEEMS TO BE THE ISSUE HERE AND THAT FORD HAS DENIED A PROBLEM SAYING THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM WHEN PEOPLE TAKE THESE CARS TO THE DEALERSHIPS. IT WAS VERY SLICK OUT AND MY HUSBAND SLID THROUGH A STOP LIGHT WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. THEY WERE SOFT AND SPONGY AND WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. WE CHANGE THE BRAKE PADS PAID A MECHANIC TO CHANGE THE MASTER CYLINDER NOT ONCE BUT TWICE BECAUSE WE CONTINUE TO HAVE SOFT BRAKES. HAD A MECHANIC BLEED THE BRAKES SAYING ARE WAS IN THE LINES STILL AN ISSUE. THE BOOSTER HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH THE RECALL AND THEY WILL NOT REPLACE IT A SECOND TIME. AT APPROX. 95,000 MILES WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND BRAKES FAILED AND FORTUNATELY WAS ABLE TO SWERVE INTO MEDIAN TO AVOID COLLISION. THE PEDAL TOO EASILY WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT SLOWING THE VEHICLE. AFTER PUMPING THE BRAKES THEY FINALLY ENGAGED BUT TOOK ALL MY LEG STRENGTH TO PRESS AND STOP THE VEHICLE. KEARNY PEARSON FORD INSPECTED AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS NOT ACTUALLY REPLACED - SO THEY REPLACED PER THE WELL DOCUMENTED RECALL. ABOUT 1,500 MILES LATER THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE CLIPS HOLDING THE PAD IN PLACE FELL OFF AND KEARNY PEARSON REPLACED. 1,500 MILES AFTER THAT THEY FELL OFF AGAIN TO WHICH KEARNY PEARSON REPLACED AND ATTACHED WITH ADHESIVE. NOW, 2,000 MILES AFTER THAT I HAD ANOTHER SUDDEN BRAKE FAILURE. THERE WAS NO WARNING OR INDICATION. WHILE ON THE FREEWAY THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT THE BRAKES PICKING UP. AGAIN NEEDING TO PUMP THE BRAKES TO GET IT TO STOP AND ONLY BARELY SLOWING WHILE PEDAL WAS FULLY COMPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO CONTINUE DRIVING. KEARNY PEARSON HAS SAID THE PROBLEM IS A FAULTY HYDRAULIC CONTROL BRAKING UNIT THAT IS SEPARATE FROM THE BOOSTER RECALL AND A $1,300 FIX. I QUESTION WHETHER THE THE BOOSTER WAS THE REAL PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE OR THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT IS THE ACTUAL CULPRIT WITH THE BOOSTER BEING A CHEAPER SCAPEGOAT. MAYBE THEY ARE NOT RELATED BUT THE FAILING TO BRAKE AND THE WHEEZY PEDAL IN BOTH CASES FEELS EERILY SIMILAR. EVEN AFTER THE BOOSTER RECALL REPLACEMENT THE BRAKES JUST HAVEN'T FELT QUITE RIGHT AND EXPERIENCED A LOOSE BRAKE PEDAL. FORD HAS ADVISED THIS IS A STANDARD AND ROUTINE FAILURE NOT SUBJECT TO RECALL.

OVER $1000 LATER THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. AFTER REVIEWING SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE HCU IT APPEARS THAT THIS DEVICE IS FAULTY AND IS ACKNOWLEDGED BY FORD HOWEVER THEY HAVE FAILED TO ISSUE AN IMPORTANT RECALL. APPARENTLY THE ALGORITHM FOR A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN MET WITH FAULTY UNITS. THIS FAULTY DEVICE NEEDS TO HAVE A CLASS ACTION ESTABLISHED TO COVER THE FAULTY DEVICES AND FIX THE ISSUE AND NOT TO MENTION THE REIMBURSEMENT TO THE CONSUMER.

I SPOKE WITH SERVICE DEPT AND WAS ADVISED THE RECALL REPLACED BOOSTER IS ONLY GUARANTEED FOR 1 YEAR OR 12,000 MILES WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. SERVICE TECH SAID HE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE ISSUE DUE TO FORD'S POLICY. SO GLAD THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY'S LIFE IS GOOD FOR 1 YEAR/12,000 WITH MY 3RD BREAK BOOSTER BEING INSTALLED AT MY EXPENSE TODAY. NO WARNINGS NO NOTHING, EDGE JUST WOULDN'T STOP. HAVE PAID FORD $270 TO HAVE THE BRAKES BLED AND DIAGNOSED'A FAULTY HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. THIS SEEMS TO BE COMMON WITH MULTIPLE FORD MODELS. PLEASE RESEARCH WHETHER A RECALL CAN BE ISSUED AS MY BRAKES HAVE BEEN MAINTAINED AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY ~$1500 FOR A FAULTY PART USED BY FORD'ESPECIALLY SUCH A CRITICAL ONE, ESPECIALLY ONE THAT COSTS ALMOST $300 TO DIAGNOSE. WHEN WE RETURNED FROM VACATION WE NOTICED THE BRAKE PETAL WAS SINKING TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR WOULD TAKE A BIT TO COME TO A STOP. AT ONE POINT I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP AT A LIGHT. THE PETAL SANK AND THE CAR ROLLED FORWARD AND INTO THE BUMPER OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME (NO INJURIES). WE CHANGED THE BRAKE FLUID AND BLED THEM MANY TIMES. WE RESEARCHED ON WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG. ULTIMATELY I FOUND THAT FORD WOULD REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER DUE TO SOME SORT OF RECALL. THEY REPLACED IT AND SAID THAT THE CAR STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY SAID TO REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER, WHICH THEY QUOTED $890 FOR. THEY ALSO CHARGED ME $190 TO DO FURTHER INSPECTION. WE TOOK THE CAR HOME AND ORDERED A MASTER CYLINDER FOR ABOUT $80. WE PUT IN THE MASTER CYLINDER OURSELVES. WE BENCH BLED THE CYLINDER AND ONCE IT WAS INSTALLED WE BLED THE BRAKES ON 5 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, ABOUT 10 MINS ON EACH WHEEL. THE PEDAL WAS STILL SINKING. WE HAD A MECHANIC COME OUT TO CHECK OUR WORK. HE SAID THAT EVERYTHING WE DID WAS FINE AND HE BLED THE BRAKES MULTIPLE TIMES. STILL SINKING PEDAL. HE CONCLUDED THAT WE MAY HAVE PURCHASED A FAULTY CYLINDER. I TOOK IT TO 2 OTHER MECHANICS, FIRESTONE AND BIG O TIRES, THEY BOTH SAID IT WOULD HAVE TO BE THE MASTER CYLINDER. SO...I ORDERED ANOTHER CYLINDER. WE HAD A MECHANIC COME OUT TO INSTALL. STILL...SINKING PEDAL. HE SAID THAT IT MIGHT BE THE ABS SYSTEM, WHICH I SUSPECTED. HE ALSO SAID THAT IT MAY BE THAT FORD WOULD NEED TO USE SOME SPECIAL TOOL THAT ONLY THEY HAVE TO RESET SOMETHING OR OTHER. SO I FINALLY GAVE IN AND TOOK IT BACK TO FORD. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT HAD FAILED, AND QUOTED $2042.50 TO REPLACE IT, $1400 OF THAT IS JUST LABOR. THE FORD REP SAID THAT ONLY FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENTS CAN FIX THIS ISSUE, BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE CORRECT TOOLS FOR IT.

I BELIEVED AT THE TIME OF THE ORIGINAL REPAIR THAT ALL OR A GOOD SHARE OF THE COST SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY FORD!!! THERE DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH THESE BRAKES. SCRAPE, SCRAPE, SCRAPE!! THERE NEEDS TO BE A DESIGN CHANGE IN THE BRAKE PARTS. OUR OTHER CARS HAVE NOW BRAKE PROBLEMS SUCH AS THE ABOVE. I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE. FELT THE CAR MOVE FORWARD. IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO AVOID THE CAR DIRECTLY PARKED IN FRONT OF ME. ACCELERATING TO 25-30 MILES PER HOUR AND NOT KNOWING WHAT WAS HAPPENING, STEERED THE CAR UP THE PARKING LANE INTO A SNOW-COVERED FIELD, CIRCLED AND CAME BACK INTO ANOTHER ROW OF THE PARKING LOT. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES THE WHOLE TIME. WHEN I GOT TO THE END OF THAT ROW AND REALIZED I HAD NO BRAKES, FINALLY THREW IT IN PARK. THE CAR STOPPED, GEARS GRINDING. THE VEHICLE MAINTAINED THE SAME SPEED THE WHOLE TIME. IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN PEOPLE OR OTHER CAR MOVEMENT AT THE TIME, I DON'T KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED.
