2012 Ford Edge brake failure occurred without any warning while I was driving on I85. Brake pedal went to floor with diminished braking ability when a vehicle adjacent changed lanes quickly to in front of my vehicle. Luckily no accident occurred. Vehicle was taken to Ford dealer. A previous issue with brakes happened in 2021/mileage 109k and brake booster was replaced under recall 13N02 at that time. Dealer diagnosed current brake issue and recommended replacing HCU AND MASTER CYLINDER DUE TO VALVES AND SEAL LEAKING INTERNALLY. RELACE OIL SENDING UNIT ALSO DUE TO IT LEAKING OIL. Mileage 146K Vehicle is unsafe to drive as is. Cost of repairs is close to value of car.
Ford Edge 2012 Limited 2.0L [XXX] The brake pedal went all the way to the floor while my wife was driving a few times. The brakes DID NOT STOP OR SLOW THE CAR AT ALL! She pumped the brake pedal and braking came back. But, after that we could not trust the brake system. We paid AutoNation Ford in Fort Worth, Texas $2,694.45 on 10/11/2023 to replace the ABS system, after their recommendation that this will fix the problem. This did fix the problem until recently this past week on 9/21/2025, when the brake pedal went to the floor without any braking, just continued to move forward in our driveway. The next push on the brake pedal did provide braking but now seems a little soft. My wife’s sister also has a Ford Edge with similar or the same symptoms, a 2013 Edge. My daughter has a 2012 Ford Fusion with similar or the same symptoms. This is a very dangerous SAFETY PROBLEM with these Ford cars! I suspect that this problem is more widespread than just my family, more Ford Edge vehicles with this ABS problem. A Ford Edge ABS RECALL might be required to help Ford customers be safe! The first incident occurred in GA on vacation in June. While my spouse was driving, he said the brakes seemed squishy and were not right. When he braked to stop the car to get gas, his foot went almost to the floor. After getting gas, I drove and they did not seem right. The second incident happened the beginning of August and I was coming down a relatively steep hill. I went to brake and my foot went all the way to the floor and did not completely stop. I took the car to my mechanic and he wasn't sure of the problem, and to another mechanic. The 2nd thought it was the brake booster. I then took it to the Ford dealership where I bought it last August and had them look at it. They said it is the ABS module and that I am #829 on the list of 1300 people that need that part, that Ford has no idea when it will be available. The third incident was last Sat, [XXX] and I had No Brakes At All, so I had to take my husband's car to work. In All the incidents, I was at risk, as well as my family and the people driving in front & back of me. I have also had issues of the AC coming in for NO Reason, and after I turn it down, it turns itself back on at full blast. This car is NOT SAFE. The ABS system is completely shot. I have replaced the entire brake system besides the ABS. There is a recall on the ABS System for other 2012 Ford Edges, but for some reason my vehicle isn’t included. Please consider including my car in the recall as this is a serious safety issue. I cannot even drive the car, because i am not able to brake properly.
Regarding the three Ford vehicles in my possession, each with approximately 80,000 miles, I've observed consistent issues with the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module. Despite my inquiry with a Ford dealership, no recall has been issued for these vehicles, and the ABS module is reportedly unavailable for repair. Given the apparent prevalence of this issue, I am concerned about the potential impact on vehicle performance during critical events. BRAKE PEDAL HITTING THE FLOOR : ISSUE COMES AND GOES VERY RARELY . FIRST COMPLAIN REPORTED ON APRIL 2014: BRAKE BOOSTER REPLACED ON WARRANTY. LAST COMPLAIN REPORTED TO ORIGINAL CAR DEALER: COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE ISSUE. IN BETWEEN THESE TWO DATES, BRAKE BOOSTER HAS BEEN REPLACED RECENTLY. ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE FAILURE, NO ABS LIGHT YET. FORD HONORED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON BRAKE POWER BOOSTER IN 2020. PERFORMING A FEW REPEATED SUDDEN STOPS AT CERTAIN SPEED GETS THE BRAKES TO HOW IT SHOULD BE. NO ACCIDENT EVER INVOLVED.
On July 31, 2019, I had the brake booster replaced at Midas due to a hissing noise and a loss of brake pressure, costing me $733.39. At that time, I checked for a Ford recall but found none for my VIN. I recently came across Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 13N02: Certain 2010-2014 Model Year Edge and MKX Vehicles Extended Warranty Coverage on Brake Booster. While I never was contacted by Ford about this issue for my 2012 Ford Edge, I feel it should be part of the program as it was clearly a safety issue at the time. Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 13N02 does show as an outstanding field service action for my VIN.
The ABS module failed which also impacted the traction control. The ABS module cannot be repaired because Ford cannot get the part needed due to the high volume of failure on this required safety feature. My car is unsafe to drive due to this system failure.
The brakes can’t been repair I totally lost brakes to may times

The vehicle was diagnosed by a certified mechanic who determined that the brake booster had failed and needed to be replaced. The braked booster was replaced. While driving approximately 10 MPH in the snow, the contact depressed the brake pedal, and the brake pedal went to the floorboard before the vehicle came to a stop. There was no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was returned to the mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the ABS module had failed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact became aware of Technical Service Bulletin: 13N02. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not covered under warranty, Service Bulletin, or recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 140,000.

My 2012 Ford Edge has always had an issue with its brakes. I put new ones on and then the ABS system goes haywire and kicks in making the car feel like the brakes are constantly engaged. The car has also stopped in the middle of the road by it self with no warning. The brake pedal at times is squishy as well. I have it at a Ford dealership now to get it fixed I have to purchase a new ABS unit and modular. These parts are on indefinite back order per the dealership. I cannot be without a car for months on end but I dare not drive it because it is a safety hazard with unpredictable braking. My son drives this car and I do not want him involved in an accident related to this faulty brake system. Ford should recall this issue and correct it before someone dies in an accident. This dealership does not offer a loaner car like other car manufacturers do which is disgraceful when it is their product that is faulty and on back order. Since my son needs this car ASAP I may have to resort to buying the parts off of the internet.
Brake pedal goes to floor with minimal stopping power
I experienced spongy pedal that went to the floor, no brake light or abs light came on, no leaks. I was driving my wife's edge and hit the brakes to make a left hand turn. When I did the the brake pedal went straight to the floor! It showed some stopping power but not enough to actually stop the car without having a good amount of distance. I shut off the car, turned it back on and the brakes were fine. It happened again!
Wow, vehicle is in park and idling. My traction control light comes on then my brakes go all the way to the floor. It has done about six times so far.
My brakes are going all the way to the floor just every once in a while, but wow, my vehicle is in park and running, my traction control light comes on the only way to get it off. Is to turn the ignition off and back on.

There was no warning stated in the dash, but I went to drive my car one day and the brakes were sunk to the floor. I drove it around carefully for a little bit and realized the brake pedal built pressure if it was constantly being pressed, however, it would lose the pressure instantly. I got the brakes bled and replaced a brake line since I had replaced both of the rear calipers prior (no issues there and no issues with brake pads or the brakes themselves). A few weeks went by and I lost the pressure again instantly. I called the mechanic to take a look and they replaced the brake booster and master cylinder and bled the brakes. The brake lines/hoses were fine with no leaks. I picked the vehicle up and the brake pedal is still soft and mushy with no pressure building. I am scared to drive it in case I accidentally hit someone and it is currently winter (snow & ice). I have new tires but I fear the brakes will give out on me soon. I don’t think these parts are up for inspection or whether the issue is with the abs module or the HCU, but it appears to be a common issue with 2012 ford edges and other years. The time frame for this is all within 10 weeks since I wasn’t driving my vehicle for about 4 weeks.
Brakes malfunction, the vehicle experienced an apparent loss of brake pressure, resulting in the brake pedal sinking to the floorboard before the vehicle came to a complete stop. A technician serviced the car on three different occasions, replacing the brake booster and bleeding the hydraulic system on 9/11/2023. The problem persisted, taking car to technician for further analysis on three separate occasions, noticing a strange noise while pressing the brake pedal, described as a “wind blowing” noise. After more work, brake malfunction happened again on 1/3/2024.
The brakes extremely stiff while being depressed. While backing out of garage ended up in side lawn. I have to use an excessive amount of force to break normally and avoid a collision with another vehicle. A local service technician diagnosed the issue and determined the cause to be a faulty brake booster. The technician recommended replacing the brake booster. He noted that his internet search was flooded with complaints about this situation and he showed me where q Ford dealership had fixed the problem by replacing the brake booster under Customer Satisfaction Program 13N02. I tried calling Ford to see if they would replace the booster under this program and because and Ford told me the age of my car and mileage was outside scope of this program. Cost precludes me from fixing this. Disappointed in Ford. Will keep using excessive force to brake.

I am one of thousands of people who have had the power brake booster fail on their Ford Edge. Initially, my vehicle failed to stop at an intersection when another vehicle was running the red light, and I was nearly t-boned. The brake pedal was almost impossible to press in. I thought the issue was due to the icy conditions at the time and some problem with the ABS. This summer the real problem became apparent as the brakes have started squealing and hissing every time they are pressed, and the pressure required to come to a full stop varies from nearly none and jerking to an immediate stop to the point I am barely able to press the pedal hard enough to get it to stop at all. Sometimes both situations will occur during one stop, and the brake pedal will go from excessively resistant to dropping to the floor, at which point I will lose all stopping power momentarily while I let the pedal slowly hiss back into place and press it again. The first time that happened, I was trying to stop for a bike that started to cross without waiting for the crosswalk signal, and I nearly hit them. Ford’s site states I’m covered under the CSP for this part, but I am unable to find a dealer willing to provide the service as they believe the CSP only covers 10 years after the model year (my mileage is under the 150k limit). Whether or not that’s true, a CSP is insufficient in this scenario as a quick internet search shows power brake booster failure is very common in this model line and it is unequivocally a life and safety risk.
Intermittently when you hit a bump, the brake pedal goes to the floor and may stay that way for a couple of days and then it comes back. This is the second brake booster ford replaced, I see that brakes are a constant problem on these vehicles, this repair is costing me a $1000.00 the car only has 90000 miles on it. My wife is afraid to drive it anymore.

Summer 2022 my brakes started giving out … when coming to a stop, the brake pad goes all of the way to the floor makes a sound similar to a pump or a hiss. It “corrected” itself after a few pumps on the brake peddle after about five minutes. It happened a second time so I took it back to the company who had replaced my brakes 2/3 yrs prior … they could not find anything wrong w/them. It happened again, I took car back to same place with same results. Later in the year it happened for a 4th time but did not correct itself as it had in the past, I drove home at 30mph for over 30 minutes leaving a lot of space between myself and cars in front. The car sat for about a month then my brother drove it and experienced the same problem. I had the car towed to a mechanic who could not replicate the problem therefore could not fix what he couldn’t find but he did bleed the brakes. I rented a car for a short while but when I did drive it again, the same problem occurred and corrected itself. I took it to a different mechanic who also could not replicate the problem, he tried 3 times. I have experienced the same problem at least three times this year, the last time being last week. My and any passengers safety is at risk daily; fortunately, most times I have been parking or on surface streets when this has happened. There have been no warning signs before the brakes give out. I plan on taking car to dealership this weekend.
When braking my brakes hit the floor. I had the booster and master cylinder replaced. 2 years later my car has been at the dealer for 2 months. They replaced the booster again and now say I need a HCU unit. The HCU is on stop sale and now I still am without a car. I have paid 1450.00 for the second booster so far and if they can get the HCU then it’s another 1500.00. My car only has 73,000 miles on it

This is the second time the brakes on this car have failed while driving. No warnings before or after the brake failure.

2 months after I purchased this vehicle in 2021, I noticed soft brakes, the vehicle displayed low oil pressure it locked up and turned off. Proper oil was added and the brakes appeared normal afterwards. Around mid August 2022, I noticed that when I put pressure on brakes to slow the vehicle, the peddle would sink slowly to the floor and hard to slow vehicle down. So brakes were inspected and the rear brake pads were worn all the way down and the front brakes were like new.. All four brake pads were replaced with new pads. Well this did not correct the problem. I would still hear a swoosh from the brake peddle when releasing and brakes continued to slowly sink to floor.. So the master cylinder and the vacuum booster were replaced, brake lines were bled over 10 times and problem was still not corrected. No warning lights ever reflected on the vehicle. Now the vehicle will mot start and now i have to tow to repair shop. When I started looking up issues regarding my 2012 Ford Edge SEL, tan color. I noticed this has been a reoccurring issue with this make/model. Also, no repair/recall stickers were attached to the vehicle to address this issue. I purchased this vehicle August 2021 from a dealer in Wilmington, NC.
As I was coming to a stop at a red light the brakes seemed to have a squishy feel and I was unable to stop the vehicle. Eventually the vehicle came to a screeching stop as I slammed on the brakes numerous times. There were no warnings that the brakes were malfunctioning. Brake pads are all intact. After having the vehicle inspected I was advised it is the brake booster. Thankfully I did not crash into anyone.
It’s been 3 times already when the car brake pedal, out of nowhere, has gone close to the bottom of the floor while trying to make a stop. The brake hardly stops the vehicle afterwards. So I need to be extra careful driving slowly back home. It stays like that for a few days then it stars working again. Luckily I haven’t had an accident yet but I’m afraid it’s just a matter of time. The Power Brake Booster diaphragm fails. This caused the brakes to feel rock hard when depressing the pedal and almost not stop the vehicle. There is also a "hissing noise" when depressing the brake pedal. At other times the brake pedal will slowly sink to the floor while being depressed at a stop light. The vehicle is unsafe and can't be driven safely. It only has 115,762 miles on it. An independent repair shop confirmed the vacuum leak in the Power Brake Booster and suggested we contact Ford because they heard this is a consistent issue with this model. One representative at Ford did acknowledge that they have a failure of the power brake booster diaphragm and that they had extended the warranty on this specific item. I went to get it repaired at the dealership and they claim that warranty ended in May 2022 even though I have not exceeded the mileage of this extended warranty (120,000). Another Ford representative today indicated that there isn't an extended warranty for this item, but rather it is a recall item. She then said that there isn't a program for the repair, however. This is a legit safety issue that Ford acknowledges exists, but they aren't willing to correct the issue. That is unacceptable. Someone is going to get hurt and Ford knows it, but doesn't care. Who can help get this corrected?

Intermittent brake issue, rock hard or down to the floor squish very soft and having to pump brakes, hissing noise. I am afraid there is going to be some kind of highway crash because of this problem and my warranty is not covering it because it's intermittent, but when it does happen it lasts days. I have a baby now and am afraid to drive my vehicle to far/fast. With all the comments I've been seeing it's the exact same issue, model and year. This NEEDS to be recalled before it turns into the Toyota problem years ago when the brakes completely failed.
This car has to have the break lines bleed regularly and it seems to be a common problem in the model.
On 12/22/2021 I was going to an appointment, when i got the bottom of the driveway the brakes kept fading like I was loosing brake fluid, I drove to my mechanics it was diagnosed to be ABS hydraulic control module. My understand from trying to get a new part, there are several hundred people looking for the same part. There were no dash lights or warnings so it is hard to believe that there are not accidents by this issue. If this had occurred on the road there would have been no stopping in an emergency. My car is still sitting waiting for the part. Its here if you need to check it out. The part is very difficult to get to. Again no warning till i put my foot on the brake pedal

I dont drive often or many miles so while driving on state route had to stop seeing several cars in front of me stopping for a dump truck backing in drive so pressed on brake but went to floor and did eventually stop however had spongy pedal until I got home. I did get brake pads and fluid checked with all being fine. My local Ford said they had not heard of this issue however I saw many reports submitted on this site and read a plea to Ford for a recall since mechanics say they have no fix for it. It came on suddenly and I am in fear to use my vehicle for fear of brake failure with damage and possible death. Please have company research, recall and fix before someone gives their life before something deadly cannot be undone. Thanks!!
Brake pedal went completely soft, and to the floor and did not slow the vehicle. This occurred out of nowhere. Brakes were working fine before this random loss of control and power. Almost hit the car in front of me. Eventually came to a stop with pedal all the way to the floor. Placed my car in park, took foot off the brake, then brakes came back to work as normal. Took it to multiple brake shops. No one will even touch it as there is no resolution. One shop has seen 9 fords with the exact same issue; Replaced the master cylinder, brake booster, and cleaning all lines with no resolve, thus having to reimburse customers for their parts and labor. Someone is going to die if Ford doesn’t make a recall. One customer quoted Ford for saying “We are looking into it. Until then drive carefully.” Wow. There are MANY people reporting the same problem. Do a little research.
Brake pedal goes to the floor - brake failure. Reading on-line, this appears to be a chronic, dangerous, widespread, multi-year Ford Motor problem. The issue appears to be a result of a systemic faulty braking Ford Motor issue.
My brake pedal is squeaking when I push it,the brake pedal is going all the was down and gets stiff.If I'm at a red light and have my foot on the pedal it push up like trying to get my foot off of it..The mechanic told me that he could've sworn there was a re call on the Ford Edge's..I scared and I know I could never afford to fix this huge problem.

Vehicle has a extended warrantee on the power brake booster that Ford is unwilling to repair due to a previous replacement of the part in 2017. Brake boosters are out of stock and unavailable, due to volume of repairs. Both power brake boosters failed approximately 5 years from install. The brake issues created a very unsafe incident that almost caused an accident.

Brake pedal goes almost to floor. It has a little engagement at the top pedal then becomes spongy then stopping power at the bottom of pedal. Also there is a "thump" sound when you first press the pedal. When you let off rmr pedal there is a whistle. The booster was replaced during an extended warranty several years ago.
Brakes were working totally fine for 1 hr. drive to city. A few hours later, I returned to my car to drive home. When I put my foot on the brake pedal while it was in park (but engine started,) everything felt normal. When I put it into reverse to back out of the spot, my foot went all the way to the floor. This "soft pedal" occurred with NO warning lights/sounds/etc. There was NO warning that my brakes would give out on me at all. Luckily, mine happened,(both occasions), in parking lots, not in higher speed situations. Any higher speed situation could have been catastrophic. It was frightening. Fortunately, I was a nearly vacant lot, so I tried backing up to see what would happen and the brake again had to go ALL THE WAY to the floor and made a grinding sound (like stopping on gravel sort of). It did not stop as usual. It rolled to a stop after traveling a few feet. (Mind you, this is only rolling back from a parked position.) I got on You Tube and typed in "2012 Ford Edge, brake to the floor" there were hundreds of folks complaining about this issue. It is related to the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit, although my ABS never illuminated. You Tube had "quick temporary fix". Go in reverse upto 20-25 MPH and slam on the brakes "grenade stopping". Took 7 times (frightening given I didn't know if the brakes would engage at all), my brake pedal popped back up from the floorboard and it felt like a hard pedal again. It worked fine for one day. The same problem reoccurred the next day. Same reverse/grenade stop procedure and it got me to the dealership. Apparently this gets the valve to go back to closed position after air got in HCU from open valve. My Ford Service Advisor acknowledged how common the repair was and were surprised the Edges weren't included in the 19S54 Recall with other models. Repair cost me $1,435. They also found the Master Cylinder needed some repair-more money. I will try to get the actual part removed from my car back for inspection
Brakes peddle soft, fluid full, intermittent times where putting on the brake and felt they weren’t working (scary). Pads, rotors fine. Taking in to dealer and anticipate they will replace brake booster, master brake cylinder and still the brake issue remains not fixed. Reading posts on internet and many owners having same issue where dealer can’t seemed to be able to determine problem.

THEY REINSTALLED THE ORIGINAL MASTER CYLINDER AND BOTH MANUALLY BLED THE LINES AND THEN USED A COMPUTER ASSISTED BRAKE BLEEDER WHICH CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEIR TOTAL CHARGE WAS $100.00 COMPARED TO THE ESTIMATE FROM A FORD DEALER WHICH WAS $2,176.12. THE ESTIMATE FROM THE FORD DEALER WAS TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE ABS HSU MODULE. NEITHER PART WAS NEEDED, JUST BLEEDING THE LINES.

A FEW WEEKS LATER I MENTIONED THE PROBLEM TO A MALE FRIEND WHO SUGGESTED I CHECK THE FORD WEBSITE WHICH I DID. I DISCOVERED THIS PART WAS KNOWN TO BE FAULTY AND THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON IT. I THEN CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT FROM, THEY SAID I'D HAVE TO CONTACT CORP. FORD. I DID AND GOT THE RUN AROUND BETWEEN CORPORATE AND LOCAL DEALERSHIP DESPITE HAVING PROVIDED A LOT OF DOCUMENTATION. NO ONE WANTED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS PROBLEM. I PROVED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP NEVER MADE ME AWARE OF EXTENDED WARRANTY EITHER AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE OR LATER. THE ORIGINAL SALESPERSON NO LONGER WORKED THERE. THIS IS NOT A CONSTANT OCCURRENCE, AND IT IS HARD FOR MY MECHANIC TO REPRODUCE. IT HAPPENS IN ALL DRIVING CONDITIONS, PARKING, HIGHWAY, IN TOWN, WHEN ON/OFF THE BRAKES OR JUST HITTING THEM TO SLOW DOWN ON A HIGHWAY. I SEE THERE ARE NUMEROUS SIMILAR INCIDENTS ON THE WEB AND I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE THE SUBJECT OF A SAFETY RECALL. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR.

I HAVE HAD TO BRAKE QUICKLY ON 2 OCCASIONS AND 1 OF THE TIMES I HAD TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES AS A CAR RAN A STOP SIGN COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, I HAD TO SWERVE INTO THE OTHER LANE TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR AND BARELY WAS ABLE TO STOP MY CAR. THE SECOND TIME I HAD TO STOP QUICKLY AND BRAKE GRINDED TO A STOP IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND A CITY STREET. BOTH TIME THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. DURING MY NEW YORK STATE INSPECTION DID NOT PASS DUE TO A SOFT BRAKE PEDAL, I HAD THE BACK BRAKES REPLACED AND THEY DISCOVERED THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD A LEAK. I HAD IT REPLACED AS WELL AND THE BRAKES STILL ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT THIS SATURDAY TO HAVE THE LONG PINS (I THINK THAT'S WHAT IT'S CALLED) REPLACED ON THE BACK BRAKES. THEY ALSO SAID IT'S POSSIBLE I WILL NEED TO HAVE THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER REPLACED. AFTER SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS AND 4 SATURDAY'S SPENT AT THE CAR REPAIR STORE AND STILL NOT RESOLUTION TO THE BRAKE PROBLEM. I'VE READ MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUES ON THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL CAR MAYBE IT'S TIME TO ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE IT COSTS SOMEONE THEIR LIFE.

I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND EVIDENTLY THERE IS A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT OF A BRAKE BOOSTER ISSUE COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY (13N01) AND HAVE READ MORE THAN 130 OTHER PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED ISSUES IDENTICAL TO MINE. NOT UNDERSTANDING WHY THIS IS NOT A RECALL DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE FAILURE BEING BRAKES!!!!!!! FAILURE OCCURRED AT 69,536 MILES ON ODOMETER. HOWEVER, ON TEST DRIVE DURING HARD BRAKING THE PEDAL AGAIN WENT TO FLOOR, WHISTLING STOPPED. IT APPEARS THE PROBLEM IS IN THE ABS SYSTEM. THE COST TO REPLACE ELECTRONIC AND HYDRAULIC ABS IS OVER $1100. AFTER ONLINE RESEARCH, I CAN SEE THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD EDGES -- CLEARLY TOO COMMON.

I CALLED FORD MOTOR CO AT 1-800-392-3673 AND VERIFIED NO RECALL ON MY SPECIF VIN #, BUT MANY FORD EDGE 2012 HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE BRAKE BOOSTER. AFTER COMING TO A STOP WITH THE PARKING BRAKE I TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON. STILL NO BRAKE PRESSURE, BUT A WHISTLE SORT OF SQUEAK WHEN RELEASING THE BRAKE. I CONTACTED HUB CITY FORD IN LAFAYETTE, LA AND BROUGHT IT IN FOR REPAIRS (SEPT 11). THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE BRAKE BOOSTER WHICH THEY AGREED WAS THE PROBLEM, AND THEY REPLACED. REPLACING THE BOOSTER DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE, AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE NO SYMPTOMS INDICATING AN ISSUE (NO ENGINE LIGHT, NO LEAKS, NO GRADUAL LOSS IN PRESSURE). THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER, THEN CALLED TO TELL ME THERE IS STILL NO BRAKE PRESSURE. NOW THEY ARE SAYING THE HCU NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AND IT WILL COST $1200. THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT THIS WAS GOING OUT, AND TO MY KNOWLEDGE, DOESN'T SHOW UP ON ANY TYPE OF DIAGNOSTICS. I CONTACTED FORD, AND THEY CREATED A CASE (CAS-13144337) BUT WOULD NOT TELL ME IF THERE WERE OTHER COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. BY CHECKING ONLINE, I SEE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES TO MANY CAR OWNERS WITH NO WARNING. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT OFTENTIMES THEY REPLACE THE POWER BOOSTER (RECALL ISSUE) AND ULTIMATELY END UP REPLACING OTHER COMPONENTS THAT ARE THE REAL PROBLEM. THE REPLACED BOOSTERS ARE BEING REPORTED BACK TO FORD, BUT MAYBE THE OTHER COMPONENTS ARE NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT UNDER RECALL (BUT CLEARLY SHOULD BE).

BUT, IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED ON COMPLETELY DRY DAYS. WHEN THE CAR IS ON AND IN PARK, AND YOU PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL YOU ALSO HEAR A "THUD" SOUND, AND CAN FEEL A VIBRATION IN THE GEAR SHIFT. WE HAVE BROUGHT THIS PROBLEM TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY CONTINUE TO TELL US NOTHING IS WRONG, BUT IT APPEARS FROM READING OTHERS' POSTS THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER HAS FAILED. THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ALARM ALWAYS GOES OFF. CONSTANT DINGING, AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAIN ON. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 1 BATTERY ALREADY. STILL VERY LOW BRAKE PEDAL, AND SOFT ALSO WHILE STOPPED AT LIGHT THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AREA. AND THEY TEST DROVE THE CAR THEY SAID. IMMEDIATELY WENT BACK TO DEALER AND LEFT THE VEHICLE. THEY SAID THEY WILL ASK FORD IF THEY WILL APPROVE THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FOR REPLACEMENT. VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALER AS OF TODAY AUGUST 4, 2015. VEHICLE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE, COLLISION IS A VERY HIGH RISK WITH THE VEHICLE AS IT NOW IS. I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THE EDGE AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SALVAGED. I TALKED WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS TOO BAD FOR YOU. I WANTED THE BRAKE BOOSTER CHECKED OUT. FORD SHOULD BE RECALLING ALL THE EFFECTED VEHICLES NOW, BEFORE SOMEBODY IS KILLED. THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 50 COMPLAINTS FILED WITH NHTSA SINCE 2012.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD HARDEN AND WOULD NOT PROPERLY DECLINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

ON VARIOUS DATES, MOVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS (FROM PULLING INTO OR OUT OF A PARKING SPOT TO GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY) I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE EDGE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN AS IT SHOULD. AT TIMES, I BECAME AFRAID THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD REAR-END ANOTHER VEHICLE OR I WOULD HIT SOMEONE IN A CROSS WALK. I HAD TO PRESS VERY HARD ON THE BRAKES AND EVEN THEN, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT I WAS JUST BEING PARANOID, BUT WHEN THIS OCCURRED 3 TIMES IN ONE DAY ON 9/17/13, WE BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM INSPECT IT RIGHT AWAY. LATER THAT NIGHT, A FORD MECHANIC CALLED AND EXPLAINED THAT THE "BRAKE BOOSTER" WAS DEFECTIVE AND PRESSURE WAS NOT BEING APPLIED ADEQUATELY TO STOP THE CAR. WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW IN APRIL 2012. I SEE NO REASON WHY THIS PART SHOULD HAVE GONE BAD IN JUST 1 YEAR.

MY 14 MONTH OLD, 2012 FORD EDGE, HAS HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES, SOME VERY SERIOUS! FROM THE BEGINNING, I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE SYNC SYSTEM, THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM, AND CONTROLLING THE TEMPERATURE. THEY HAVE HAD TO "UPDATE" MY SYNC SYSTEM MORE THAN ONCE. I FREQUENTLY GET A "NO KEY DETECTED" MESSAGE WHEN DRIVING. (PUSH START SYSTEM) THE FIRST TIME THAT HAPPENED I PULLED OFF THE ROAD THINKING IT WOULD STOP RUNNING, AND DID $1400.00 IN DAMAGE TO THE CAR. (COVERAGE WAS DENIED BY THE WHEEL AND TIRE PROTECTION PLAN.) LATER WAS TOLD THE CAR WOULD NOT HAVE STOPPED EVEN IF IT DIDN'T RECOGNIZE THAT THE KEY FOB WAS IN IT. (A CAR-JACKERS DREAM!) I HAD A HOLE IN MY BRAKE BOOSTER CAUSING ME TO NOT HAVE THE BENEFIT OF POWER BRAKES. FOUND THIS OUT WHEN I STEPPED ON MY BRAKES AND WASN'T STOPPING. I HAD THE REALLY PUSH ON THEM TO PREVENT HITTING A CAR. THE BATTERY DIED IN 14 MONTHS. THE LATEST IS THAT THE VACUUM SEAL IN THE CAPLESS FUEL SYSTEM HAD A BAD O-RING CAUSING FUEL TO LEAK AND VAPORS TO ESCAPE. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THIS CAR IS POORLY MADE. I'M JUST WAITING FOR THE NEXT ISSUE TO SURFACE. *TR

AFTER SEARCHING ON GOOGLE I REALIZED THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM AND FORD NEVER ISSUED ANY WARNING TO INFORM ITS CUSTOMER OF THE POTENTIAL LIFE DAMAGING SITUATION. BELIEVING IT WAS MAYBE A RANDOM EVENT, I SEARCHED GOOGLE FOR ?FORD EDGE BRAKE FAILURE? AND I WAS ASTONISHED TO FIND THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. SEVERAL BLOGS DESCRIBED DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES WITH BRAKE PROBLEMS RELATED TO A BRAKE ?BOOSTER?; PEOPLE ALMOST CRASHING. SO I CALLED A LOCAL DEALER (GREENWAY FORD) AND HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED IN FOR REPAIR. I WAS ADVISED BY THE SALESPERSON THAT IT WAS IN FACT THE ?BRAKE BOOSTER? AND THAT HE HAD SEEN THREE (3) RECENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. THIS IS CALLED A ?CLUE? THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE PART ITSELF AND FORD IS NOT BEING A RESPONSIBLE COMPANY AND CORRECTING THE ISSUE. APPARENTLY, THE COST OF A LIFE IS MEASURED IS OUTWEIGHED BY COST OF A RECALL AND WHAT YOUR COMPANY MAY LOSE IN CIVIL LITIGATION. THE DEALER (GREENWAY FORD) IS REPAIRING THE VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY AND AFTER A DAY OF NOT COMPLETING THE JOB OFFERED A FREE RENTAL VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOW BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR TWO DAYS. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A STEEP HILL (PARKING LOT FROM WORK) THIS LEADS ONTO A BUSY AVENUE. WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES I NOTICED MY VEHICLE ROLLED ONTO THE STREET,I COULD NOT STOP. I QUICKLY TURNED RIGHT. THANK GOD THERE WERE NO CARS COMING. HOWEVER, HAD I NOT QUICKLY TURN, THE CAR WOULD HAVE ROLLED RIGHT ONTO THE CENTER OF THE STREET AND I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN SIDE SWAPPED BOTH WAYS. I COULD NOT PULL OVER SO I DROVE SLOW GOING UNDER 10 MPH AND TURNED ON TO A ROAD AND PULLED INTO A PHARMACY PARKING LOT IN WHICH I LET THE CAR ROLL INTO A PARKING SPACE AND I CALLED THE TOWING COMPANY AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM. I WAS TOLD YESTERDAY THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED. AFTER ASKING WHAT IT WAS, I THEN ASKED WHY AND HOW DID IT FAIL. THEY STATED IT WAS DEFECTED AND THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPEN AND THAT IS WHY NEW CARS HAVE WARRANTY'S. THEY WERE WAITING TO RECEIVE THE PART SO THEY CAN REPLACE IT. I'M NOT CONFIDENT THAT MY CAR IS SAFE AND I TOLD THEM I HAD A 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE CAR. THE DEALER SAID THEY CAN'T GUARANTEE NOTHING ELSE WILL HAPPEN, BUT THAT IS WHY NEW CARS ARE UNDER WARRANTY. I'M NOT CONFIDENT ANYMORE AND FORD SHOULD REALLY BEGIN RECALLING THESE BRAKE BOOSTERS. SYMPTOMS REPEATED ON 8/10 WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND ON 8/19, ALSO WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. REASON: THE BRAKE PEDAL AT REST IS HIGHER THAN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AT REST. THE DRIVER IS USED TO AN OLDER (CHRYSLER 2009) VEHICLE WHICH THERE WAS NOT AN APPRECIABLE DIFFERENCE IN PEDAL HEIGHT, STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THINKING SHE WAS STEPPING ON THE BRAKE.... RESOLUTION: DISCUSSING THE INCIDENT, THE WOMAN WAS SEATED IN THE FORD EDGE AND ASKED TO SEE IF SHE FELT A DIFFERENCE IN HEIGHT OF THE BRAKE VS ACCELERATOR PEDALS. SHE DID, AND HAS SINCE PRACTICED GOING BETWEEN PEDALS, LIFTING HER FOOT TO ACCESS THE BRAKE, RATHER THAN MERELY SLIDING HER FOOT TO THE LEFT........ IT IS THIS WRITERS OPINION THAT MANY OF THE UNEXPLAINED ACCIDENTS WHERE A PERSON, ESPECIALLY WHEN AN ELDERLY PERSON IS DRIVING, HAS MISTOOK THE ACCELERATOR FOR THE BRAKE IS DUE TO THE HEIGHT OF PEDAL DIFFERENCE. ................
