We were on a Family road trip when issues popped up. Car was engine was buzzing and jumping in gears when started up and running rough. No check engines lights showed up. But we decided to drop it off at a dealership in Grants Pass Oregon to get checkout as we didnt feel safe driving it home. They say it is the transmission going bad. We were hundreds of miles away from home and driving over the cascade pass when this was occurring. 1\3\26

My vehicle’s flex plate is defective and, after having researched this further, it is a known manufacturer’s (Ford) issue. Despite this fact, Ford has conveniently issued a “recall” that eliminates my being able to have their defective part replaced and paid for by them. Straub vs Ford Motor Company, a lawsuit filed in 2021, attests to this fact. My question is how is Ford allowed to get away with this? It shouldn’t matter how long or how many likes the consumer has on the vehicle if the defective part and subsequent need for repair is not due to any negligence on the consumer’s part. I would appreciate any assistance or guidance in how to proceed with this matter. Thank you.
The 2015 Ford Edge and similar models are notorious for flex plate cracking, which Is an absolute hazard to anyone driving it. These things can crack or shatter spontaneously, causing the engine to stop running, even mid-drive. This issue is known, yet the NHTSA hasnt deemed this as a true recall, so Ford isnt covering replacement of this part. PLEASE reconsider recalling this part!

My 2015 Ford Edge was in my garage. I opened the garage door to leave and started the vehicle. It said my hatchback was open . I got out to shut it and left the driver door open. Upon closing the hatch my vehicle began rolling backwards. I was hit in the leg and shoulder while getting out of the way of the car. I also sustained cuts on my hand from the open car door. We have a steep approach to our garage and live on an acreage with timber. The vehicle rolled down the approach to the garage and into and through the timber before it hit a tree big enough to stop it. At the body shop the repairman said he moved the car and put it in park and got out but the car then began rolling back on him as well. He was able to get in and stop it. Insurance has declared the car a total loss. I saw some 2015 edge vehicles had recalls for possibly rolling after being put in park. The NHTSA campaign id is 22v413000. My VIN number was not included in the recall so I wanted to report it in case it should have been.

I received a Customer Satisfaction Program Notice in June 2023 #22N12 regarding the flex plate, transmission fluid pump and torque converter but the 100% coverage ended on 2/28/23. I was told by Ford on 7/3/23 that I should have received the notification in September 2022 but I did not. The representative told me that others have reported same problem in the last week or so. The Complaint number given to me by Ford is CAS43676484. I also submitted another complaint with nhtsa.gov number 11530072. I am unable to pay for this repair due to being on SS Disability since 2017 and also becoming a widow on 2/12/22. Please contact me with any available assistance with these issues which I was not properly notified of and am suffering hardship due to problems known by Ford with my vehicle I purchased in good faith.

While driving at highway speeds, the transmission will make a loud bang and it feels like you ran over an object on the road. The vehicle momentarily (up to 5 seconds) looses all acceleration. This has happened many times, but most concerning is when this happens while entering onto the highway and merging into traffic or passing on a 2 lane road within a passing zone and power is lost and there are oncoming vehicles. This has been reported to the local Ford dealership numerous times, but the same response is received each time, "unable to duplicate transmission problem). The first time this occurred was 02/26/2021 and has continued (25 incidence I have documented) to the most recent time 05/25/23.

The engine runs rough condition, Check Engine Light will illuminate and white exhaust smoke coming out from the tail pipe. It exibits a high consumption of coolant. Possible cause is due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder which triggers a misfire. Driving it into the free is very dangerous if you car will stall in the middle and could cause an accident.
While driving forward at various speeds (usually above 35 mph) the backup camera will engage and the transmission indicator will become blank (from "D") - and Wrench warning light came on during most recent events. It has happened about a dozen times sporadically over the past year and lasts for half minute to several minutes. It happens without warning. Dealer at first told me they could not analyze the problem unless they saw it happen. In Oct 22 when car was in shop for 2 other recall repairs, dealer said they would analyze it, charged me $145 with notation: 'checked for codes and found P0709 in continuous memory. PPT instructs to clear codes and test drive. Test drove 5 miles and found concern did not return at this time. Gave est on tr sensor due to suspected intermittent internal fault." I declined paying for repair because this does not seem to be normal wear and tear and I am doing nothing to cause the problem with how I operate the car.

While driving a very loud noise was coming from the rear end of SUV
Driving on the interstate at 60 miles an hour the vehicle randomly lost all propulsion and died, which caused an immediate quick slowdown and almost caused a 4 car/semi pileup. Causing me to hit the ditch to avoid being killed by a semi. Vehicle no longer starts. Appears to be a faulty flexplate that caused engine and transmission issues to which Ford has been no help. FORD has only recalled the 2017 edge 2.0 for the flexplate issues despite the same engine being used in the 2015-2018 models. Countless mentions of faulty flex plates in the model year range with the same engine but Ford refuses to address the mass issue.
The flex plate on the vehicle has broken twice within 10000 miles. This is most certainly a manufacturer defect. The vehicle then runs rough, has a loss of power along with transmission shifting issues and can nearly die or not accelerate properly while driving, leading to several near collisions which could result serious injury or death.
The Flex Plate (flywheel) cracked twice now, First time was at 62,000 miles and second time was at 81,000. My safety was at risk the first time due to the fact I had just entered the Interstate and loss all power to the engine as my oil pan and crankshaft seals also gave way and all engine oil was drained out with no engine oil warning what-so-ever. This nearly caused a Semi to rear end me as I limped over to the edge of the road powerless. The wrench appeared earlier that morning denoting a transmission issue for the first time as I was driving to work, then at lunch time it died on the Interstate with no warning indicators at all. The second time it cracked I was also driving 75mph on the Interstate saw the wrench and heard a loud grinding noise and the engine would just rev up when I pressed the gas. I pulled over safely without issues, but the flex plate cracked again and took out the transmission this time. Both repairs were completed at a Ford Dealership and neither repairs were warrantied or covered by Ford
Failed Part: Shift cable attachment at the transmission; Safety Risk: Unable to shift gears from inside the cabin making driving hazardous; Confirmed By: Tow truck driver and 2 independent service centers; Inspected By: Tow truck driver and 2 independent service centers; Warnings: None; The shift cable bushing has been recalled on other Ford models built during the same time period. I'm reporting as this may be related. This occurred in a parking lot. I reversed out of my parking spot, put the gear shift in drive, but the car was still in reverse. Roadside assistance was called. He showed me that the shift cable was not attached to the transmission. He was able to place the cable so that I could drive it a short distance to a service station for repair. The car is currently being repaired by an independent service center.
Automobile was making a loud rattling noise. More noticeable at idle. The rattling noise then became loudest with start-up. Temperature gauge increased, but did not get to overheat as the vehicle was discontinued from driving. Towed to Kenny Ross Ford Route 30 @ Blackhill Road Adamsburg, PA 15611. Initial evaluation done by Kenny Ross Ford: Cracked Flexplate. Further evaluation is currently being done for further damage with pictures taken. This problem has been well made to FORD in 2015-2018 FORD EDGE models with technical service bulletins issued. Class action lawsuits are being conducted. There is no reason for a cracked flexplate except a manufacturer error. Communication has been poor with Kenny Ross Ford, as phone calls are not answered or voicemail messages not returned. Thank you.
My panoramic vista sunroof has cracked. The cracks are wavy and everywhere on the rear passenger side. This cracked at 52k miles I also have just replaced the flex plate that cost me $2,275 and 1 month without driving my vehicle. I have 68k miles on this vehicle currently. My transmission fluid was BLACK when they replaced my flexplate as well.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle started to move without warning. The driver noticed that the back over prevention camera was activated and depressed the brake pedal. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000. The Vin was not available.

The engine flexplate cracked and disconnected from the torque converter. The vehicle lost the ability to move and left the vehicle stranded in the traffic lanes, nearly causing a major accident.
On June 23rd, I turned on my 2015 Ford Edge and heard a knocking/rattling noise coming from the engine that I had never heard before. It got worse when the A/C was on and while idling. It somewhat subsided while accelerating but became very loud again when I came to a stop. I took it to my local mechanic that is Ford trained, and after putting the car up, he indicated that he thought it was a broken Flex Plate. He said it was good that I had come in because if I had ignored it and been driving on the freeway, my car could have just shut off - which I think we can agree is highly dangerous. There was never a warning light or any indication of a problem prior to hearing the rattling/knocking sound on June 23rd. My mechanic advised me to call Ford to see if there was anything they would be willing to do as the repair was costly. I called my local Ford dealership in Irvine, CA on Thursday, June 24th and the service manager said that since it went out of warranty in Oct 2020, that the repair would be out of pocket. My mechanic then advised me to call Ford Motor Company in Michigan to see if there was anything they could do or provide assistance with. I spoke with "[XXX]" at 11:30am, and she advised me that there were no programs available for my vehicle. I was in disbelief considering there is a recall on the very same part for 2016-2017 Ford Edges. She apologized and said there was nothing they could do. She provided a case number #[XXX] and said she would let her engineering department and the NHTSA. The total cost of the repair was $1,819.64 and the cost of my rental from Enterprise for the 5 days was $611.74. I have photos of the repair process as well as the actual cracked flexplate part. This should not happen on a vehicle with 44k miles on it and I certainly should not be footing the bill for it when Ford [XXX] well knows this is a manufacturing problem on their part. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that when the vehicle was at the dealer for routine maintenance when they were advised that the power transfer unit failed to cause the seal to fracture and leak transmission fluid. The dealer advised that the power transfer unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 86,836.

THE 2015 FORD EDGE STARTED TO NOT BLOW HOT AIR, AND EVENTUALLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TELL ME IT NEEDED A NEW ENGINE, BUT IT WAS COVERED. THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT THERE IS A BULLETIN TCB IS # 19-2346. HOWEVER, TODAY I FOUND OUT BY THE SALES PERSON THAT IT NOT COVERED AND I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THIS ABOUT $7500. I'M READING SEVERAL POST THAT THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE. I DON'T KNOW WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL OR MORE PRESS ON THIS ISSUE.

WHILE DRIVING MY CAR I STARTED TO NOTICE A RATTLING NOISE FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK, I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE INDICATED THAT MY CAR NEEDED A NEW WATER PUMP, WHICH HE REPAIRED. THIS DID NOT FIX THE RATTLING NOISE AND HE INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR MOST LIKELY HAD A CRACKED FLEXPLATE. UPON CONTACTING FORD CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE, THEY INDICATED THAT MY CAR WOULD HAVE TO BE CHECKED BY AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER TO VERIFY THIS ISSUE. IT WAS VERFIED BY THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE QUOTED ME A REPAIR BILL OF $3,800 AND THAT IS ONLY IF THE ENGINE IS NOT BAD DUE TO THE CRACKED FLEXPLATE ISSUE. FORD HAS NOT OFFERED ANY ASSURANCE THAT THIS WILL NOT RECUR OR ASSISTANCE WITH THE OBVIOUS MANUFACTURERS DEFECT.

WHILE DRIVING ACROSS OAK ISLAND 2 LANE BRIDGE AT APPROX 45 MPH, MY EDGE STARTED REVVING AT A HIGH RPM, ONE LOUD CLUNK & CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT LOST ALL TRANSMISSION. I TRIED TO SHIFT IN ANOTHER GEAR, BUT NO POWER TRANSFER. TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY & SHOULDER WAS SMALL. DRIFTED TO STOP IN SHOULDER & CALLED 911. POLICE CAME & PROTECTED MY VEHICLE WHICH WAS IN AN EXTREMELY BAD POSITION. I HAD NOWHERE TO GO IF I WANTED TO MOVE TO A SAFER POSITION. I HAD TO WAIT IN VEHICLE UNTIL POLICE CAME. IT WAS SUNDAY, TOW TRUCK OPERATOR WAS ON CALL. ALL TOTAL I WAS IN THAT LOCATION FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR. HAD CAR TOWED TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED IT TO BE SHATTERED FLYWHEEL AT LEAST. PROBABLY MORE DAMAGE, BUT RECOMMENDED TO HAVE IT SERVICED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP DUE TO THEIR INTERNAL SERVICE BULLETINS NOTING THIS ISSUE. BULLETIN #19-2236 8/6/2019

WHEN PARKING THE VEHICLE THE SHIFTER GOT STUCK IN PARK BUT THE VEHICLE ITSELF WAS STUCK IN NEUTRAL. HAD TO PUT ON PARKING BRAKE AND GET VEHICLE TOWED (09/20). VEHICLE WAS FIXED. ISSUES WITH ELECTRONICS ON SHIFTER (10/19/20). REVERSING OUT OF DRIVEWAY ONTO STREET. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF NEUTRAL. COASTED DOWN THE HILL 500' AND PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AT INTERSECTION. SHIFTER WOULD MOVE BUT THE INDICTOR ON THE DASH WOULD NOT SAY IT WAS OUT OF NEUTRAL. I TRIED A FEW THINGS BEFORE PUTTING IT INTO PARK WHICH AGAIN LOCKED UP THE SHIFTER. SHIFTER WAS STUCK IN PARK BUT VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL. HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED AGAIN TO FORD DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME IT WAS THE SHIFTER BUSHING FELL APART. WAITING TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT WITH THIS ISSUE. LUCKILY IT WAS ONLY MYSELF AND NOT MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE WHEN I HAD TO COAST DOWN THE HILL AND LEFT AT AN INTERSECTION.

THE FLEX PLATE/FLYWHEEL HAS NOW FAILED FOR THE 3RD TIME IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS. THIS IS CONFIRMED BY AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALERSHIP AND STILL HAS NO RECALL ON THIS PART THAT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE DAMAGED FLEX PLATE HAS CAUSED MY 2015 FORD EDGE TO HAVE A TERRIBLE RATTLING NOISE AND CAUSES CONCERN FOR SAFETY IF THIS PART WHERE TO BREAK APART WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE WHEELS OR MOTOR TO LOCK UP WHILE IN MOTION. THIS IS A RE-OCCURRENCE OF THE ISSUE REPORTED AS NHTSA COMPLAINT 11317068. ON 09/01/2020, A DISTINCT RATTLING SUDDENLY OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. GIVEN THAT THIS IS THE EXACT SOUND THAT OCCURRED SIX MONTHS EARLIER WITH THE FLEXPLATE FAILURE, I IMMEDIATELY DROVE TO THE DEALER. (THE FIRST EVENT ENDED IN A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BECAUSE THE DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND DID NOT KNOW IF ANYTHING WAS WRONG SO I KEPT DRIVING THE VEHICLE DESPITE THE RATTLING.) THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE FLEXPLATE UNDER PART WARRANTY (WITH THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS FROM 9/1/20 TO 10/8/20). IN MY PREVIOUS NHTSA COMPLAINT, I LISTED FOUR OTHER IDENTICAL NHTSA COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME MODEL. IN THE INTERVENING SIX MONTHS, I HAVE FOUND TWO MORE COMPLAINTS OF AN IDENTICAL NATURE - NHTSA IDS (11327304 AND 11320476). THIS IS CLEARLY A SYSTEMIC ISSUE WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR LOSS OF CONTROL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED. I URGE A SPECIFIC INVESTIGATION OF THIS MODE OF FAILURE.

MY WIFE AND I OWN A 2015 FORD EDGE WITH APPROXIMATELY 65K MILES. IT IS A DAILY DRIVER FOR MY WIFE. THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A BAD RATTLING NOISE A COUPLE DAYS AGO. WE ALREADY HAD AN APPT. FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP SO I TOLD HER NOT TO DRIVE IT AND TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT WHEN SHE TOOK IT IN. UPON ARRIVAL TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THE TECHNICIAN POPPED THE HOOD, LISTENED FOR A MOMENT AND REPLIED, "I'M 99.9% SURE I KNOW THAT NOISE". HE FURTHER EXPLAINED THEY WOULD NEED TO GET A BORE SCOPE AND LOOK AT THE FLEX PLATE AS THESE VEHICLES HAVE HAD AND ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH THE FLEX PLATES CRACKING/BREAKING. THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE MOST OF THE DAY AND CALLED BACK LATER THAT EVENING STATING THAT'S WHAT IT WAS AND THEY NEEDED TO PULL THE TRANSMISSION TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH DAMAGE WAS DONE. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALERSHIP CALLED BACK STATING IT HAS TO HAS A NEW ENGINE DUE TO FLEX PLATE FAILURE, AGAIN. THE COST OF THE REPAIRS ARE ESTIMATED TO BE $5600 AS IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE FORD DEALERSHIP ALSO STATED THIS WILL BE THE 3RD FLEX PLATE THAT THIS VEHICLE WILL HAVE HAD: REPAIRED IN 2017, REPAIRED IN 2018 AND NOW 2020. SO THIS WILL BE THE 4TH FLEX PLATE THIS VEHICLE HAS SEEN IN 5 YEARS COUNTING THE ORIGINAL ONE. MY WIFE ORIGINALLY HEARD THE NOISE WHEN SHE STARTED IT AT WORK TO GO PICK UP OUR TODDLER FROM DAY CARE. IT IS VERY LOUD AT IDLE, SORT OF SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL ENGINE. I'M VERY THANKFUL (AND ACCORDING TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP) THIS DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY AS SHE COULD HAVE LOST ALL POWER TO THE VEHICLE CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.

AFTER STOPPING TO PARK THE CAR IN A STREET PARKING SPOT (THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY), I PLACED THE GEAR SHIFTER IN PARK, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WENT INTO REVERSE. THE SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING DEGRADED AND FELL OFF THE CABLE WHICH DETACHED THE CABLE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. I KNOW THAT OTHER FORD VEHICLES HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, BUT THERE IS NO RECALL ISSUED FOR FORD EDGE VEHICLES EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE WHOLE CABLE (CLAIMED THAT THE BUSHING IS PART OF THE CABLE) AND CHARGED ME $700. THE DEALERSHIP INVOICE AND A COUPLE OF PICTURES OF THE MISSING BUSHING ARE ATTACHED AS A PDF DOCUMENT.

THE FORD EDGE HAS A CRACKED FLEXPLATE AND EMITS A RATTLING NOISE AND FORD WILL NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. A CRACKED FLEXPLATE SHOULD NOT HAPPEN, LET ALONE AT 50K. THE VEHICLE NOW SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL AND PUTS THE DRIVER AND OTHERS AT RISK. SHOULD THE FLEXPLATE FAIL, THE RESULTING DAMAGES AND INJURIES COULD BE DEADLY. THIS HAPPENS ARE STARTUP AND WHEN SLOWING DOWN. *TR

I WAS DRIVING DURING MY NORMAL ROUTINE, FROM PICKING UP MY BABY AT DAYCARE TO GO HOME WHEN A RATTLE NOISE SUDDENLY STARTED. IT WAS NOT TOO LOUD IN THE BEGINNING, BUT AS I APPROACHED THE HOUSE, THE NOISE STARTED GETTING LOUDER AND LOUDER MOSTLY WHEN IDLING AT STOP SIGNS OR RED LIGHTS, FOR EXAMPLE. THE 2015 FORD EDGE AWD 2.0 L ECOBOOST IS 4.5 YEARS OLD AND HAS 66,000 MILES. THE DAY AFTER, I TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FLEX PLATE WAS BROKEN AND SO IS PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING THAT IS ATTACHED TO IT INCLUDING THE CRANKSHAFT, TORQUE CONVERTER, AND FLUID PUMP AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE ENGINE. FORD PROVIDED ME A CASE NUMBER, BUT NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP. I WAS QUOTED $7,300 TO FIX THE VEHICLE. A PROBLEM WITH A FLEX PLATE CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS AS I'M UNDERSTANDING THAT THEY TRANSMIT THE POWER FROM YOUR ENGINE TO THE TRANSMISSION. I COULD HAVE LOST MY ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE'S POWER. A BAD FLEX PLATE COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A LOSS OF POWER TO THE WHEELS AND RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. IN ADDITION, THE FLEX PLATE BROKE THE CRANK SHAFT AND TORQUE CONVERTER, WHICH ALSO PREVENTS THE ENGINE TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. MY VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD AND THIS HAS HAPPENED ALREADY WITH IT. I'M FORTUNATE TO HAVE NOT SUFFERED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS.

MILEAGE AT EVENT: 79,000 ON 2/14/20 A RUMBLING NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD BEGAN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS AT IDLE, MORE PRONOUNCED AT START-UP, AND THE NOISE SUBSIDED WHEN UNDER POWER. TOOK TO DEALER ON 2/20/20 AND THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. NOISE CONTINUED AT START-UP AND WHEN AT IDLE. ON 2/25/20 WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, ALL PROPULSIVE POWER WAS LOST YET ENGINE COULD STILL REV AND ALL POWER FUNCTIONS REMAINED (STEERING, BREAKING, AUXILIARY POWER, ETC.). PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND TURNED ENGINE OFF. COULD NOT RE-START VEHICLE AND VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. INITIAL INSPECTION SHOWED THAT THE FLEXPLATE HAD SPLIT INTO TWO PIECES. ONE INNER PORTION REMAINED CONNECTED TO THE CRANKSHAFT, THE OTHER OUTER PORTION CONNECTED TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER. (SEE ATTACHED PICTURE OF FLEXPLATE.) DURING THE FAILURE, THE BROKEN FLEXPLATE DESTROYED THE BENDIX GEAR ON THE STARTER WHICH WAS ALSO REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE CRANKSHAFT SEAL WAS REPLACED WHICH INDICATES AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE MAY BE THE ROOT CAUSE. THIS IS SIMILAR TO PREVIOUSLY REPORTED COMPLAINTS WITH NHTSA IDS (11218798, 11194165, 111277542, 11204923) AND RELATED TO FORD SERVICE BULLETIN 19-2236 (DATED 06 AUGUST 2019) AS WELL AS FORD COMMUNICATION SSM 47398 (NHTSA ID 10144200). OF THE PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS, TWO HAVE HAD REPEAT FAILURES, LIKELY INDICATING AN INHERENT ALIGNMENT AND ENGINEERING FLAW WITH THE VEHICLE. NOTE THAT THE 2015 FORD EDGE WAS THE FIRST FORD VEHICLE TO HAVE THE 2ND GENERATION 2.0 L ECOBOOST GTDI WITH TWIN-SCROLL TURBO. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF FLEXPLATE FAILURES AS MORE 2015 - 2018 FORD EDGES REACH THE ~75,000 MILE MARK. SAFETY COMMENT: THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT 70 MPH WHEN I HEARD A LOUD CRACK AND LOST ALL PROPULSIVE POWER. WHILE I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GLIDE TO A STOP, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MORE DANGEROUS AT A HIGH TRAFFIC TIME.

I PULLED INTO MY GARAGE, PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, & NOTICED THE LETTERS DISPLAYED BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL STILL SHOWED THAT I WAS IN NEUTRAL EVEN THOUGH MY GEAR SHIFT WAS IN PARK. THE GEAR SHIFT WOULD NOT BUDGE FROM PARK EVEN WITH MY CAR ON. I TURNED THE CAR OFF & ON A FEW TIMES, BUT STILL NO CHANGE. I COULD ACTUALLY ROLL MY CAR FORWARD & BACKWARD BY HAND WHILE IN THE GARAGE WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING. I PUT MY EMERGENCY BRAKE ON TO AVOID ANY FURTHER, UNWANTED MOVEMENT. I CALLED AAA TO COME TOW MY VEHICLE OUT OF THE GARAGE & TAKE TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY DETERMINED THAT THE SHIFTING CABLE HAD BROKE, & $350 LATER I GOT MY CAR BACK. THANK GOODNESS THIS HAPPENED IN MY GARAGE, BECAUSE IF THAT HAD HAPPENED ANYWHERE ELSE I OR SOMEONE ELSE COULD'VE BEEN INJURED OR CAUSED A WRECK IF THE CAR HAD ROLLED HAD I NOT NOTICED THE PROBLEM IN TIME. THE DEALERSHIP HAD SAID THAT THIS WAS THE 2ND FORD EDGE THAT THIS EXACT PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED WITH IN THE LAST MONTH. BIG CONCERN!

WHILE DRIVING THE RMPS ALL OF THE SUDDEN INCREASED RAPIDLY (I HAD MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR TRAVELING AROUND 50 MPG) AS THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SLOW. THE VEHICLE THEN STARTED TO SPUTTER LIKE IT WAS RUNNING OUT OF GAS (HAD A FULL TANK). I PULLED OVER THEN STARTED OUT AGAIN. THEN I REALIZED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. I RELUCTANTLY WENT INTO FIRST, SMOOTHED INTO 2ND THEN FELT LIKE IT TOTALLY SKIPPED 3RD BEFORE SETTLING INTO 4TH. I HAVE 6 YEARS. TRAVELING AROUND 60-70 WAS FINE. IT WAS THE LOWER GEARS WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP THAT WAS GIVING ME ISSUES. I NEED TO ADVISE YOU THAT THIS IS A 2015 MODEL WITH ONLY 12,885 MILES ON IT WHEN 3RD AND 5TH GEAR 'DROPPED OUT' OF MY TRANSMISSION. THIS IS WHAT THE LICENSED FORD MECHANIC ADVISED ME. I'M VERY UPSET BECAUSE IT'S STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND FORD WILL ONLY FIX THE BROKEN PARTS AND NOT THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION. ONLY 12,885 MILES AND I BOUGHT IT USED - I'VE ONLY HAD IT FOR 3 MONTHS AT THIS POINT.

I OWN THIS 2015 EDGE FOR LESS THAN A YEAR AND LESS THAN 15,000 MILES. DRIVING ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT 35 MILES PER HOUR TO PICK PUMPKINS AND THE TRANSMISSION JUST STARTS SPINNING. WE PULL OVER AND TRANSMISSION IS COMPLETELY SHOT WILL NOT MOVE CAR. CALL AAA AND HAVE IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER CARBONE FORD IN BENNINGTON VERMONT. THIS IS NOT WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED BUT IT IS WHERE I HAVE IT SERVICED. SO THE FIRST THING THEY TELL ME IS FORD WILL NOT ISSUE A LOANER VEHICLE NOR WILL THEY PAY FOR A RENTAL. THEY TELL ME THEY FIRST MUST "DOWNLOAD THE DATA FROM THEIR COMPUTER TO FORD, SO THAT FORD CAN DECIDE WHETHER TO FIX IT OR REPLACE IT." THIS TOOK TWO FULL WEEKS. IN THE THIRD WEEK FORD TOLD THEM THEY COULD REPAIR IT AND THE PARTS WERE SENT. IN THE FOURTH WEEK I WAS PROMISED THE CAR WEDNESDAY AND THEN "ABSOLUTELY FRIDAY" IT IS NOW SATURDAY AND NO CAR. I HAVE RENTED A CAR FOR FOUR FULL WEEKS GOING ON FIVE. THE KILLER IS THAT AAMCO WOULD HAVE TAKEN TWO DAYS TO FIX OR REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION AND FORD THINKS THIS IS SOMEHOW NOT THEIR FAULT THEREFORE NO LOANER VEHICLE.

SHUT ENGINE OFF AGAIN AND WAITED ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND RESTARTED. ACCELERATOR PEDAL WORKED NORMALLY, AND DROVE OFF. WRENCH LIGHT WENT OUT AND ENGINE LIGHT WENT OUT AFTER ABOUT 20 MILES. ON 26 JULY 2016, I ENCOUNTERED A SUDDEN AND INEXPLICABLE PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE THAT INVOLVED THE LOSS OF THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. . . WHILE I WAS IN TRAFFIC ON A BUSY ROAD. THE GEAR SHIFT WAS STILL IN THE 'DRIVE' POSITION WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED REQUIRING ME TO DRIFT INTO A DRIVEWAY/PARKING LOT, NARROWLY AVERTING AN ACCIDENT. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. NEEDLESS TO SAY WHEN THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED I FOUND MYSELF, AND MY GRANDCHILDREN, IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. AS THE MOMENT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE. ON 27 JULY THE SAME ISSUE REOCCURRED THREE MORE TIMES (ALL ON LOCAL STREETS), ONCE WHILE I WAS IN AN INTERSECTION, WHILE I WAS ON MY WAY TO THE COWLES FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED. THE SERVICE MANAGER, TOOK MY VEHICLE IN (HE GRACIOUSLY PROVIDED A LOANER VEHICLE) AND ONE OF THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES, HYPOTHESIZED THAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE RELATED TO THE THROTTLE. I'M NOT SURE IF THE ISSUE WAS MECHANICAL OR RELATED TO THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER INDICATED THAT IT MAY TAKE ABOUT A WEEK TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE VOLUME OF SERVICE REQUESTS, SO I WILL NOT KNOW IF THE VEHICLE IS DRIVABLE UNTIL AFTER THE FIRST WEEK OF AUGUST.

THEN, THE NEXT DAY, THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON HER WAY TO WORK IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THIS YELLOW WRENCH CAME ON ABOUT 10 MONTHS AGO AND IT CLEARED WHEN SHUTTING THE CAR OFF. DEALER SAID TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT AND IT MAY HAVE BEEN A GLITCH. ETB ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FAILED WHILE DRIVING PUTTING ME IN DANGER ON THE ROAD AND CAUSING MY CAR TO GO LIMP. I WAS DRIVING 70 MPH IN A 75 AND LOST POWER AND CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS ALL I COULD DO TO PUT THE CAR ON THE SHOULDER WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD. IT WAS TOWED TO TEXARKANA AND I AM IN ROCKWALL TX WAITING ON 15000 OF THESE PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER WITH FORD TO COME IN FOR MY CAR. THIS IS HOPELESS. IT'S DANGEROUS TO HAVE THIS CAR STALL LIKE THAT AND TO KNOW 1.6 MILLION HAVE ALREADY.

I GOT OUT OF THE CAR IN A DRIVEWAY, WAS STANDING WITH THE CAR DOOR STILL OPEN WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO ROLL DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. I WAS KNOCKED DOWN AND THEN STUCK UNDER THE CAR DOOR WHILE BEING DRAGGED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. I SCREAMED FOR HELP AND A NEIGHBOR HEARD, RAN OVER JUST AS I APPROACHED THE STREET AND STOPPED THE CAR. SHE SAID THE CAR SHOWED TO BE IN REVERSE YET IT WAS TURNED OFF AND I DIDN'T HEAR ANY WARNING SIGNALS. IT ALSO DIDN'T START TO ROLL UNTIL I WAS STANDING OUT OF IT ON TWO FEET. IF I FELT IT ROLLING WHILE GETTING OUT, I WOULD HAVE STILL HAD A FOOT IN THE CAR TO HIT THE BREAK. BESIDES BRUISES AND MUSCLE PULLS, I ALSO EXPERIENCED A HOLE IN MY SHOULDER WHICH WENT TO THE BONE WHILE BEING DRAGGED.

ON JANUARY 4, 2016 THE VEHICLE ENTERED A SAFE MODE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. WITHOUT NOTICE, WHILE IN MOTION AND IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN; DEPLOYED THE EMERGENCY BRAKES; AND ATTEMPTED TO DIAL 911. IT NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. WE PROMPTLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY SAID THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE AT FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE STATED THAT IF THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED FORD WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ELSE. THE VEHICLE IS BRAND NEW, WITH AROUND 3000 MILES. WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE VEHICLE AND FORD'S UNWILLINGNESS TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE.

THIS REPORT IS AN UPDATE TO COMPLAINT: 10788647. THIS VEHICLE, A 2015 FORD EDGE SEL WITH A 3.5L ENGINE, WAS REPAIRED BY A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR A STALLING/LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE VEHICLE FROM NOVEMBER 5-13, 2015, AND REPROGRAMED THE PCM IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE STALLING CONDITION. INITIALLY, THIS ACTION SEEMED TO RESOLVE THE STALLING ISSUE. HOWEVER, IN RECENT DAYS THE GAS MILEAGE HAS DROPPED ABOUT 3 MPG, AND ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2015, AT 7:25PM THE EDGE STALLED WILL DRIVING (NOT ACCELERATING, DECELERATING, OR TURNING) AND THE ENGINE QUIT. THE VEHICLE SIMPLE STALLED AND LOST TOTAL POWER WHILE DRIVING. THERE WERE NO WARNING OR ERROR LIGHTS. THE ONLY MESSAGE WAS "FULL ACCESSORY POWER ACTIVE." I HAD TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK IN ORDER TO RESTART, WHICH I WAS ABLE TO DO. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT ON A BUSY ROADWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME TO BRING THEM THE VEHICLE THE NEXT DAY, DECEMBER, 23, 2015, AND THE VEHICLE HAS REMAINED IN THEIR POSSESSION SINCE THAT TIME. THIS ISSUE IS DANGEROUS. I LIVE IN A MAJOR METROPOLITAN AREA AND TRAVEL INTERSTATES EVERYDAY. IF IT STALLS WHILE I AM ON THE INTERSTATE, THE SITUATION COULD BE DISASTROUS.
