My 2016 Ford Edge with 86k miles encountered a well-known EcoBoost engine problem (TSB 22-2229) where there was coolant intrusion into the cylinder causing a rough start and codes P0302 (cylinder #2 misfire) and P1316 (misfire in first 1000 RPM). My understanding is that this problem can potentially lead to an engine fire. The dealership I bought the Edge from replaced the engine block at my expense, not because the block itself was damaged, but because the newer block doesn't cause the head gasket failure or leakage between the coolant system and the cylinders. I requested a buyback from Ford but it was denied with no explanation given other than the list of general criteria for denial. It would appear based on those general criteria that it was probably denied because the vehicle is out of warranty, I encountered problem after warranty expiration/18k miles, and only one repair job (replacing the engine) appears to have repaired it. But it is clearly a defective engine - only question is how long Ford has known about it. I requested just a refund of the repair cost (engine replacement), but that was also denied. Ford customer care said they would give me an extended warranty as a "goodwill gesture" but this does not cover the sunk cost of the engine replacement and they could not promise me it would cover this same problem if it occurred again.

I had my vehicle serviced (oil change, tire rotation, fluid levels topped off) before we took a trip to Florida from Massachusetts. On the way home from the trip we experienced no heat in our vehicle so we had the vehicle checked out thinking maybe the thermostat needed replacing. Instead the repair shop found the coolant level down by over 1 gallon. They performed a pressure check for leaks and found none. They informed me that there was a for the 2016 Ford Edge. We found an article on line that stated TSB [XXX] superseded TSB [XXX]. I then went to my Ford Dealer to explain the issue that we experienced the issues associated with that TSB and they informed me that my vehicle had no recalls. Ford informed me that it depended on build dates which seems odd when the issue covers several years of this make and model how can it come down to a single date. We got no warning lights lights just the white smoke from the exhaust as well as the loss of a lot of coolant. Looking for direction on how to proceed, I feel this should be covered by Ford because of the numerous issues reported as well as low mileage for the 7 year old vehicle. In 2018 I bought my 2016 Ford Edge which had 60,000 miles on it. I bought the extended warranty plan. I drove it for approximately 30 days and I started having issues with it losing coolant and smoking. I took it back to the dealership and was told it needed a new motor, so they put a new motor in it. Well, I just notice recently that the check engine light comes on (misfire in #2 cylinder ). it was smoking and using coolant. this was the same thing it did in 2018 when they replaced it then. So I took it back to the same place that replaced the motor in 2018 and I just found out on 6/23/2022 that my 2016 Ford Edge needs an engine. Coolant is leaking into #2Cylinder. My car is out of the extended warranty. I need help something is not right with theses motors. The estimate to replace it is $5000 - $6000. There needs to be a recall on this issue.

I had a engine warning light come on so I knew about the one recall for brake lines so I took my vehicle to a Ford dealership in Murfreesboro to fix the recall and to find out why the engine warning light came on, so they gave me a ride home. They asked me to leave my vehicle so these 2 things could be completed and checked out. 2 days had gone by and they finally call to tell me, my car was ready so I got a ride to the dealership to find out what was going on! One of the employees said recall was completed but he said my engine would need to be replaced, because coolant was coming through a cylinder and going into my engine and it would cost me $8,700.00 to fix!! Now mind you I have only had my car for 2 yrs! I’m disabled and need my car for my doctors appointments! I’m still paying on my car and I have to carry full coverage insurance because it’s financed!! My sister had the same EXACT problem with her 2016 Escape and it was recalled, why not my 2016 Edge, it’s doing the EXACT same thing just different models! Please help me I’m paying on my auto which is financed and full coverage insurance on a vehicle that doesn’t run!! I need my vehicle very badly, can we trade vehicles? Or I’ll be happy if you can just fix the problem, they will have to tow it though because it’s not running now!! It has over 100,000 PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME! I’m disabled, widowed, and on a fixed income so please have MERCY on me!!! I can’t deal with anymore disappointments!! My phone is set up to not answer any calls not in my contacts, so please leave a message and I’ll call you right back! PLEASE HELP ME!!!
