The manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for my vehicle in a timely manner: Aug 25,2025 Manufacturer Recall Number25S87 NHTSA Recall Number25V544 Recall StatusRecall Incomplete, remedy not yet available

Nov 17, 2025

My brake pressure dropped rapidly and the ABS and brake system warnings lit up. I added brake fluid and it leaked out from the rear passenger side brake line. Took car to dealer and they confirmed a recall on the brake lines and replaced the lines. I was responsible for the repair cost and the dealer was not able to process reimbursement until unknown date of Ford completing recall instructions.

Oct 28, 2025

The front brake hose ruptured and the brakes went out. This is consistent with the recall NHTSA Campaign # 20V469000. Ford dealer is refusing to fix it saying only the rear hose is covered. But it clearly states in the recall released on Aug 2020 it is the Front hose.

For the 3rd time in 9 years, my car's brakes stopped working. Submitted complaint to NHTSA back in 2020 the 2nd time it happened (the 1st time under warranty). In January 2025 left work to drive 17 miles home, only to find that the minute I drove into traffic my brakes weren't working again, straight to the floor! Drove 20 minutes to nearest dealer in traffic with hazards on while consistently pulling the emergency brake - it was an awful experience! Next day they say brake hoses were broken and fluid was EVERYWHERE! I heard one employee tell another, "What is going on with these cars and their brake hoses?" This time I had to pay over $1,000 to get it fixed. I'm warning everyone I know NOT to buy this car! My 3 experiences have been so horrid that it absolutely has made me realize that Ford is just not for me or my family!

1am filing this complaint regarding my 2016 Ford Edge (VIN: [XXX] ), which has experienced a severe and dangerous failure. Ford has acknowledged a defect in the flexplate at the transmission bellhousing area under Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) 22N12. This defect causes rattling noises and eventually results in flexplate cracks that can lead to sudden loss of power while driving. My vehicle is currently undrivable due to this defect. I have documentation from February 2025 (A&M Auto Repair, Invoice #[XXX]) showing that a technician identified noise from the rear of the engine/front of the transmission area and suspected flexplate cracks at that time. Despite this, my vehicle never received the CSP repair. Ford is refusing to cover the repair because my vehicle has exceeded the 120,000-mile cutoff for CSP coverage. However, this is not acceptable because: •The defect was documented earlier and existed within the coverage period. •More importantly, this is a serious safety defect that can cause sudden power loss while driving, creating a high risk of accidents. •Ford has incorrectly limited the remedy under a CSP with a mileage cutoff, instead of issuing a proper safety recall without mileage limits. Requested Action: I am requesting NHTSA to investigate and require Ford to: 1.Treat the flexplate defect as a recall, not a CSP. 2.Provide full repair coverage for affected vehicles regardless of mileage. 3.Ensure consumer safety is not compromised by arbitrary mileage cutoffs. In addition, my vehicle has also experienced repeated brake warning lights, which aligns with Ford’s brake hose recall (NHTSA Recall 25V544). The combination of braking issues and flexplate failure creates an extremely unsafe condition. Thank you for your attention to this urgent safety matter. This issue is one that was made a recall already as of recent, I had gotten my brake lines flushed and refilled and filled to correct amount and yet soon after or not to too long after I had the issue with breaking, I thought it was my brake pads but it indeed was not when I got home and the engine cooled down I checked the brake fluid reservoir and it had been almost empty, I added more and filled it again and since then it hasn’t been a problem again, but when it was a problem, I was going highway speeds when I then felt the car was off on the braking I was actually concerned if I was going to be able to stop in time especially when i was hitting the exit ramp. It no longer has been an issue since I refilled the reservoir but i don’t know if it’ll happen again or not and when and where I’ll be next time it happens. Since I now know it’s a recall and it wasn’t just a one off with just my car I am now reporting this.

Wife picking up grandkids from school called to say brake pedal had been going to the floor. Told her not to move it. As I pulled up behind the car noticed the R/R ground was wet. Master cylinder was low on fluid. Had towed to private shop. Diagnosed as R/R brake hose leaking. The hose wasn't damaged but was leaking where the fittings are attached to the hose. Shop said it's a manufacture's defect.

A recall was performed on 01-17-23 at roughly 54,000miles by Krause Ford Woodstock, GA – Brake lines were replaced. The passenger rear rubber hose has already failed where the hose is crimped at the fitting by the steel hose that comes from the master cylinder. Driver almost crashed due to not being able to stop in a normal distance due to the pedal going to the floor and the brake system failing due to no fluid pressure to the brakes. This was yesterday around [XXX] ). INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Rear passenger side brake line failure, leaked out brake fluid and brake pedal went to the floor during commute home. No accident.

Jan 16, 2025

The passenger side rear brake hose is leaking severely, causing soft breaks. Making it very difficult to stop. This happened suddenly and did not experience any issues prior to the hose starting to leak. It will be towed to Ford for inspection and repair. We had no warning lamps or messages prior to the hose leaking.

Rear brake hose busted while driving. No brake fluid lights came on.

Faulty engine design leads to head gasket failure, engine misfire and stall. Engine stall can cause loss of vehicle motive and braking by loss of vacuum assisted braking. Dealer just completed service on this vehicle and reported the failure after completing repair on another defective part, the flexplate assembly. After completing repairs advised it likely has coolant intrusion issue. Did not inform customer about the TSB showing FORD determined the block is defective and should be replaced at customer cost. Ford has known about this issue since about 2011. These engines need to be recalled. Repair data available to mechanics and on popular video sites show that Fords updated block removes two water paths that interfere with head gasket seating on 2015 - 2019 Ford Edge 2.0L EcoBoost engines. This is a known manufacturer defect that puts owners and occupants in uneeded danger due to Ford's refusal to recall and rectify these engines. There are multiple reports of these engines failing for this issue with as few as 30,000 miles. This engine is also installed in multiple other Ford and Lincoln vehicles including focus, fusion, taurus, Escape, edge, mkz, mkc, and nautilus.

Rear Brake hose ruptured resulting in Brake Pedal going to the floor and reduced braking ability

Mar 11, 2024

Back left break line suddenly ruptured causing immediate inability to use breaks. I was parked and went to apply the breaks before putting the vehicle into drive when I noticed the break pedal went to the floor. I slowly moved the vehicle to a parking place and the brake fluid light came on and I was hardly able to stop. There is a recall for the front break lines but not the back lines.

Oct 9, 2023

Brakes failed and car rolled forward while stopped at a traffic light because of right rear brake line failure. This is the THIRD brake line failure on this vehicle. The first two were left and right front hoses, which ended up being subject of a recall, but only after I had mine fail and repaired. To this date, Ford has refused to reimburse me for those repairs.

I have a warranty with Jones Junction Kia. I couldn't take my truck anywhere else. The engine light kept coming on and going off. Well I got all the maintenance as needed however. I was told that when any Ford reaches almost 100000 miles that it's a defect that coolant leaks into the engine. Well I never heard such. Come to fine out? The adjusters had to tell the mechanics what was wrong because they couldn't understand what was happening with my truck. The adjusters said my engine needed to be replace because of several other Fords are habi g this same issue. They also repaired my brakes. Jones Kia twice within a 2 month span. And the brake light came on and stayed on. If you need more details ols contact me.

Started months ago on the highway, now in the streets too. Press the gas, car goes then suddenly loses power. Going at 60 mph on highway, car suddenly starts to go slow, and pressing the gas doesn't move the car not even a mile higher. Semi trucks begin to honk horns at you. Afraid now to take highway again. Soon as I exit highway, press the gas and the car doesn't want to shift, almost as if it gets stuck. Continue driving on street and when turning, the car doesn't want to go. Ford had it for 3 days but didn't find anything. Have read posts and found one person with same issue that said it's code 2111, having to do with the throttle. So many people with the same issue and no recalls. It's dangerous to drive on highway now.

I have issue with brake hoses rupture while driving and loose brake capability (as Ford did not include all VINs affected I had to paid for repair, now they issue Customer Satisfaction Program 22N02 and they do not want to refund). NHTSA must make sure Ford is responsible for their issues on a safety topic as they are clearly not being.

Mar 22, 2023

In September/October of 2022 my passenger side right real break line ruptured. Not even a month later my front right brake line ruptured. Today my left rear brake line ruptured. All 3 times my pedal went to the floor, making it dangerously difficult to actually stop my car endangering my life and the lives of those around me on the road. No light has come on to indicate there's a problem with my braking system, any of the 3 times that this has occurred.

A flexible brake line blew out and I lost my brakes.

Mar 21, 2023

A 2nd flexible brake line blew out and I lost my brakes for the 2nd time within a couple months.

Mar 21, 2023

A 3nd flexible brake line blew out and I lost my brakes for the 3nd time on this vehicle. The first two lines that blew out were both left and right front. This 3rd one was in the rear and as a result I instructed my mechanic to replace both rear lines. Again and luckily no one was injured or crash occurred as a result of this failure which put my wife and I at a great risk. We were able to slowly and carefully bring the car to our mechanic immediately thus no tow was required. No police or first responders were needed. There was no indication of failure until the brake pedal went immediately all the way to the floor. This is my third filing report and the story is the same for the prior cases of 11512958 and 11512963.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH and turning into a parking lot, the contact depressed the brake pedal however, the vehicle failed to stop immediately. The contact applied an excessive amount of pressure to the brake pedal and the pedal went to the floorboard before the vehicle stopped. The contact continued driving to the residence. After parking the vehicle, the low brake fluid warning light illuminated. The contact attempted to add brake fluid and became aware that the fluid level was not low. The contact noticed that the brake was still malfunctioning. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and noticed and became aware that there was brake fluid underneath the rear of the vehicle. The dealer diagnosed that the brake hose needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The dealer confirmed that the failure was like NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

My parking brake, ABS, and Traction Control (ESC) warning lights all illuminate even when not engaged (Parking Brake states engaged even while driving.) Traction Control (ESC) on/off indicators illuminate opposite of engagement/unengagement (no correlation between.) Identical symptoms from NHTSA recall #16V733000. My car was manufactured right during that timeframe when my make/model/year were deemed loaded with improper ABS/ESC computer software. I brought it into Ford repeatedly and it was incorrectly diagnosed as a faulty E-Brake switch, only to give me my vehicle back and E-Brake could not be unengaged while they returned me the keys in the lot. They looked at it again and stated my ABS Module was broken causing my parking brake actuators to now be faulty resulting in my rear rotors to be worn down to unsafe driving levels. The best reason they could give me for a faulty ABS Module was "lightning strike." I called Ford Customer Care and asked if my car was overlooked in this recall before sold to me and they originally said it was (told me it was manufactured in Ontario,Canada) but then called back to tell me it wasn't one of the vehicles affected. I am deafly afraid that my braking system will fail as I am driving.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph when attempting to apply the brakes, however, the brakes were spongy then floored. The contact was able to coast to the nearest mechanic who diagnosed that the front brake line had fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact then stated that while there daughter was driving she experienced the same failure. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic a second time who diagnosed that the rear passenger brake line had fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and informed the contact that in order to be included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic) they had to report to NHTSA and that there were no recalls regarding the rear brakes. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.

Driving home after dropping my kids off to school slowing down for a red light, all of a sudden the brake pedal goes limp, car barely responds afterwards... I start pumping the pedal like crazy and yanking the E brake lever and barely stop before hitting someone... Car has been in the dealership (North Central Ford in Richardson, TX) 2 or 3 times since 2020; one for a transmission bushing recall I believe, and brake line was NEVER mentioned. They showed each instance for service in their system to me on their monitor, and showed that it never appeared to the service techs for them to inform me of the recall. They said they didn't know why it wouldn't show up. Ford really dropped the ball here, the only thing that saved me was quick thinking on the e-brake.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to stop. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated the vehicle coasted to a stop and she continued driving to her residence. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the VIN was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact was informed that the front driver’s side brake hose and the rear driver’s and passenger’s side calipers needed to be replaced. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic but experienced the failure a second time. The contact took the vehicle back to the independent mechanic and was informed that the front driver’s side brake hose needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

The electronic emergency/parking brake has failed/malfunctioned. After searching online, I discovered that other people have the same issue. As I recall, at least one of the posters said that a Ford technician told them that the wiring harness was made too short and the wires rub on the frame and fray causing an electrical short which renders the emergency brake useless. This appears to be a manufacturer's defect, in my opinion.

May 28, 2022

My brakes began leaking. I noticed this when the pedal sank to the floor during a prolonged deceleration and I had to pump the brakes to successfully stop the car. No warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms appeared prior to the soft brake pedal. I took the vehicle to a local dealer (Priority Ford in Norfolk VA, see invoice for phone and address), who diagnosed it as leaking rear brake lines and replaced two lines. My safety and the safety of others was certainly put at risk. The reason I knew how to recognize and respond to the brake leak was that it has happened to me before -- my 2016 Ford Edge had a front brake line fail earlier, prior to Ford issuing a safety recall for front brake line leaks. Now my rear brake lines have failed... I suspect it warrants a similar safety recall.

Unable to get parts/repair for NHTSA Safety Recall 20V-469 - since May 2021. Even tried calling the Ford Customer Relationship Center and was placed on hold for 30 min and then it disconnected. I would like for the part to be shipped directly to Long Lewis Ford of Hoover, AL in c/o of my name and vehicle, so they will call me when it arrives and I can come in to get replaced. Every time I call they don't have parts, as they only get a few at a time and are already spoken for. I am frustrated to keep calling and taking time to get this safety recall fixed on my own behalf. I would appreciate your help. Thank you.

When driving and try to brake noticed that pedal distance has increased and was hard to stop the car. When stopped to review vehicle, noticed brake fluid on the right side of it. Take it to Ford dealer (CrossRoads Ford of Kernersville) and they confirmed rupture on right brake hose. Correction was to replace both front brake hoses. This failure is exactly the same as the one for safety recall "NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000". VIN for my vehicle is not part of recall however same failure happens with same risks, showing that Ford fails on tracking/providing accurate VIN numbers for this safety failure.

For the SECOND time, a brake has failed on this vehicle. The first was passenger-side brake line rupture in 2019, which was repaired under warranty. Yesterday the driver’s side brake line ruptured while awaiting for recall repair to be done.

I was told parts for the safety recall would be in at the end of 2020. Were now almost halfway through 2021 and the parts are still unavailable. I did receive a letter from Ford about the safety recall and that parts were in and to call and schedule the maintenance appointment. I scheduled an appointment for this month, June 2021 and now they tell me parts are still not in and not expected till mid July 2021. My husband and I have one car and if something were to happen that would be terrible. Our lives are important and we drive our son around, we don’t feel safe knowing our brakes could not work properly.

THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE LOST BRAKE FLUID WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKES TO BE INEFFECTIVE. THIS WOULD HAVE CAUSED ME TO POSSIBILY HAVE AND ACCIDENT OR CAUSE ME TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO STOP. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER WHO FOUND THE LEAK AND REPLACED THE PART. THIS SAME THING HAPPENED TO THE FRONT BRAKES AS WELL. THOSE BRAKES ARE CURRENTLY UNDER A RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THERE WERE NO WARNS, LIGHTS OR ANY SYMPTOMS THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM

Apr 30, 2021

FRONT BRAKE HOSE LEAK. LEFT HOME AND IT WAS FINE, A FEW MILES LATER I NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL NEEDING MORE PRESSURE AND GOING FARTHER DOWN EACH TIME I STOPPED. CAR WAS SLOW TO STOP. I DROVE TO AN AUTOZONE AND THEY CHECKED AND SAW I HAD NO BRAKE FLUID. I KNEW THERE WAS A RECALL AND EVEN ASKED ABOUT IT A WEEK PRIOR AT THE DEALERSHIP DURING A 60K MILE SERVICE. I GOT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE HOSE WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART - I GOT 60K MILES OUT OF THE FIRST ONE SO I'M NOT TOO WORRIED BUT THEY ONLY CHANGED THE HOSE ON ONE SIDE SO I ASSUME IT'S LIKELY TO HAPPEN AGAIN ON THE OTHER SIDE? DID NOT CHARGE ME AND LIKE THE OTHERS, I'LL KEEP WAITING FOR THE RECALL TO ISSUE A FIX.

I CALLED FORD THEN TO TELL THEM THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO FORD TO GET IT FIXED THE FIRST OF THE YEAR AND THEY WILL REIMBURSE ME FOR WHAT I HAD FIXED; THEN THEY HAD ME SIT THEIR AND HOUR FOR THEM TO TELL ME THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART AND THEY WILL CALL ME WHEN THEY GET. NEVER GOT A CALL BACK AND NEVER GOT REIMBURSED. THEN IT RUPTURED AGAIN TRIED TO GET IT FIXED THEY TOLD THAT I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE PARTS TO COME IN AFTER I GOT TOLD THEY WOULD HAVE THE PARTS THE FIRST OF THE YEAR. THEY REFUSE TO HELP ME AND REFUSE TO GET ME A LOANER. SO I'M STUCK WITH A CAR WITH NO BRAKES THAT ALMOST CAUSED ME TO CRASH TWICE NOW.

I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THE RECALLED PART IS IN "ADVANCE NOTICE" AND A FIX ISN'T AVAILABLE. I WAS CHARGED FOR THE FIX (WITH A PROMISE OF REFUND), BUT ONLY ONE SIDE WAS FIXED AND I PRESUME THE OLD PART, WHICH WAS RECALLED, WAS USED TO "FIX" THE CAR. AFTER CALLING FORD, THEY HAD NO UPDATE. THEIR RECALL NOTICE (20S42) STATED THEY EXPECTED THE FIX TO BE READY Q4 2020, BUT IT IS NOT APRIL 2021 WITH NO UPDATE.

IN DECEMBER WE WENT TO DRIVE OUR CAR AND NOTICED THAT THE BREAK PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND BREAK FLUID WAS LEAKING OUT OF IT. FORD SAID THE REAMDY FOR THE RECALL WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE. WE HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR OF THE RIGHT BREAK LINE THEN LAST MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AND THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN WITH THE LEFT BREAK LINE. FORD STILL HAS NO SOLUTION!! IT'S BEEN OVER 6 MONTHS SINCE I'VE BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL AND I'M ABOUT TO BE OUT $600 TO FIX THE BREAKS ON MY CAR!

I RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL IN MAIL, DATED SEPTEMBER 2020, NHTSA RECALL 20V-469, STATING RECALL FOR BRAKE ISSUE, WITH A RISK OF A CRASH. AS OF MARCH 15, 2021, FORD AND NHTSA WEBSITES SAY RECALL INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT A BRAKE RECALL AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS BEING DONE TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED.

FORD RECALL 20V-469 I. RECEIVED A LETTER ABOUT BREAK LINE ISSUES FO THE FORD EDGE I OWN. IT HAS 30,000 MILES ON IT. 2 WEEKS AGO IT WENT THROUGH 30,000 MILE CHECKUP, INCLUDING BRAKES. TOLD THEY WHERE FINE, NO ISSUES. AND THAT FORD STILL DID NOT HAVE THE RECALL PROCEDURE IN PLACE AND CAN NOT GET RECALL REPAIR. BU I SHOULD JOT WORRY, MY BRAKES ARE FINE. THEY AREN'T. I WAS DRIVING AND THE LINES BROKE. I HAD NO BRAKES. I WAS LUCKY AND DID NOT CRASH. THE CAR CAN NOT BE DRIVEN. FORD IS SAYING I'LL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS UNTIL THE PROCEDURES COME OUT AND I CAN THEN FILE FOR REIMBURSEMENT. I LUCKILY DID NOT TURN INTO THE HIGHWAY. I WAS LUCKY I DID NOT CRASH INTO ANYONE. I HAD NO BRAKES. THE 'LEAK' OCCURRED WHEN THE LINES BROKE. THIS IS DIFFERENT THEN WHAT THE LETTER SAYS. THEY ACT LIKE IT WILL LEAK AND YOU WILL BE FINE AND LINES WILL BE REPLACED. I HAD NO WARNING. I ASKED FORD TO FIX THIS AND CHECK THEM. FORD KNOWS THESE ARE BAD LINES, BUT ARE NOT FIXING THEM YET. I HAD TO PUT MY LIFE IN DANGER, ALONG WITH OTHERS AROUND ME, BECAUSE OF THIS. FORD SHOULD BE FIXING THE CARS NOW. THEY KNOW WHAT VIN CARS HAVE THE PROBLEM. I WAS GOING TO DRIVE THIS CAR ON MOUNTAIN ROADS THIS WEEK, NOW IT IS SITTING AT FORD. IF I WAS DRIVING IN THOSE ROADS, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN AWFUL. THIS ISN'T A SMALL PROBLEM. IT'S A LAWSUIT PROBLEM IF FORD DOESN'T FIX THE CARS. THEY COULD SAFE SOME LIVES BY TAKING CARE OF THIS NOW. THEY SENT THE LETTERS OUT IN SEPTEMBER. IT'S SCARY TO DRIVE AND THEN HAVE NO WAY TO STOP, EXCEPT HOT SOMETHING. OR BEING LUCKY AND GOING SLOW ENOUGH THAT YOUR EMERGENCY BREAKS WORK. FORD CLEARED MY CAR TO DRIVE, SPECIALLY THE BRAKES, AND THEN THE BRAKES BREAK. THIS IS THE RECALL PROBLEM. THEY COULD HAVE OREVENTED THIS. VERY UPSET. AND WORRIED FOR OTHER A FORD EDGE DRIVERS. I WAS DRIVING IN TOWN, URBAN CITY. I WAS IN MOTION. AMD THE BRAKES BROKE. 30,000 MILES.

ON 6/18/2020, WHILE SITTING IN A PARKING LOT MY VEHICLE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL, THE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT TO THE FLOOR. NOT REALIZING WHAT HAD ACTUALLY HAPPENED, I DROVE THE 3 MILES HOME; HOWEVER, IN ORDER TO ENGAGE THE BRAKE, I HAD TO STEP VERY HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT TOOK LONGER THAN NORMAL TO GET THE VEHICLE TO SLOW TO A STOP. CONTACTED A REPAIR SHOP, WHO REMOVED AND REPLACED BOTH FRONT BRAKE HOSES AND FLUSHED THE BRAKE FLUID FOR A WHOPPING $510.03. WHEN DOING SOME RESEARCH, I CAME ACROSS RECALL # 20S42. AS FORD WAS AWARE THIS RISK, I DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD BE OUT OF POCKET THE $500+ I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO ENSURE THAT THE HOSES USED TO REPLACE THE ORIGINALS ARE TRUE FORD PARTS; AS, ACCORDING TO FORD, THE PARTS ARE NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR INSTALL.

AS I WAS DRIVING MY 2016 FORD EDGE, I WENT TO STOP AND AS I PRESSED THE BRAKE, IT SLOWED AT THE POINT TO WHERE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMING TO A FULL STOP, THEN THE PEDAL RELEASED AND WAS PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT CAME TO A FULL STOP. THE NEXT FEW STOPS...THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I CALLED MY FORD DEALERSHIP AND ASKED IF IT COULD BE LOW ON BRAKE FLUID, EVEN THOUGH NO INDICATOR DISPLAYED ON MY DASH. THEY SAID IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS. BUT AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE AND STOP, IT GOT WORSE. THANKFULLY, INSTEAD OF JUMPING ON THE HIGHWAY, I TOOK ALL BACK ROADS TO THAT DEALERSHIP. AS SOON AS THE TECH GOT IN THE DRIVERS SEAT AND PUSHED THE PEDAL, TO TAKE FOR A TEST DRIVE, HE TOLD ME 'THIS THING IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE'. HE GOT UNDERNEATH, HAD ME PUSH THE PEDAL, AND FLUID 'SPRAYED LIKE A WATER FOUNTAIN.' HE SAID HE CAN SEE THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD SPILT. THIS WAS THE DRIVERS SIDE (LEFT FRONT) BRAKE LINE.

I WAS TOLD (AS I HAVE SEEN IN AT LEAST ONE OTHER REPORT ON THIS SITE) THAT THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE HAD A CUT ON IT AND HAD EXPLODED. I DOUBT A ROAD HAZARD CUT THE LINE BUT SUSPECT AN ISSUE WITH THE PART ITSELF. *TR

ONE EVENING IN MAY, 2018, TOOK MY CAR TO GET GAS AND FELT THE BRAKES TOO SOFT. WHEN LEAVING THE GAS STATION, MY BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. PUT EMERGENCY BRAKE ON WITH HAZARD LIGHTS AND WAS ABLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A NEARBY RESIDENTIAL AREA. BRAKE FLUID WAS ADDED WITHIN MINUTES; ALL THE FLUID RAN TO THE GROUND. IT WAS TOWED NEXT MORNING TO THE DEALER. DEALER STATED THE BRAKE LINE HAD A 2" SLASH; SAID ANYTHING COULD'VE CAUSED IT. IT WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. ON MARCH 7, 2020, WENT TO RUN ERRANDS. WHEN I PARKED AT LOT, THE BRAKES FELT SOFT. WHEN LEAVING THE STORE LOT, MY BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR, AGAIN! THIS TIME, I'M ALREADY IN TRAFFIC; SCARIEST THING EVER! AGAIN, PUT MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND AT BARELY NO SPEED AT ALL, TURNED THROUGH RESIDENTIAL STREETS TO GET HOME SAFE. AGAIN HAD IT TOWED MONDAY MORNING, BACK TO THE DEALER. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS PREVIOUSLY HAPPENED IN MAY 2018. NEW INVOICE STATES: "LEFT FRONT BRAKE HOSE LEAKING," AND "INSPECT AND FOUND LEFT FRONT BRAKE HOSE SPLITTING/LEAKING; REPLACED LEFT FRONT BRAKE HOSE, BLEED BRAKE SYSTEM, TEST DROVE AND OK AT THIS TIME." THIS TIME? I WAS TOLD THE MAY 2018 ISSUE WAS THE SAME, EXCEPT THAT ONE WAS THE BACK BRAKE HOSE. AND NO WARRANTY THIS TIME; HAD TO PAY OVER $500 FOR REPAIR. VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT FORD HASN'T MADE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. I TRAVEL 35 MILES DAILY TO WORK ON THE TOLL ROAD. WHAT AM I TO DO WHEN THIS HAPPENS ON A 60-MILE SPEED LIMIT HIGHWAY? I'M TERRIFIED NOW AND DON'T HAVE MANY OPTIONS FOR GETTING TO WORK. I READ ONLINE THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH THE SAME VEHICLE. IF A RECALL ISN'T IN THE WORKS, I'M GETTING RID OF THIS VEHICLE, ALBEIT OUR FAMILY CAR. MY KID'S 2014 FORD FOCUS HAS HAD TRANSMISSION ISSUES FOR YEARS. I CANNOT CONTINUE TO HOPE THAT NOTHING HAPPENS, NOR CAN I CONTINUE TO PAY THIS MUCH MONEY FOR FORD'S MISTAKES. NHTSA, PLEASE - FIND THIS PROBLEM!

STARTED DRIVING AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN WHEN I WAS BRAKING. WAS ONLY ABLE TO STOP BY PUMPING BRAKES. DEALER STATED THAT A FRONT BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AND REPAIRED THE LINE. VEHICLE WAS 2 YEARS OLD. WITH UNDER 36,000 MILES ON 1/27/2020 WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. MY FIANC WAS DRIVING HER VEHICLE WHEN SHE PRESSED THE BRAKE AND IT SEEMED TO GO TO THE FLOOR. IT WASN'T UNTIL THE LOW BRAKE FLUID LIGHT CAME ON THAT SHE REALIZED THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THANKFULLY THE LIGHT CAME ON AS SHE WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT AND THE STORE AND NOT TRYING TO SLOW DOWN FROM 55MPH. I MET HER AT THE PARKING LOT SHE STOPPED IN AND UPON INVESTIGATING I FOUND BRAKE FLUID ALL UNDER THE VEHICLE AND ALL OVER THE WHEEL LINER. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THE LEFT FRONT LINE RUPTURED. WE HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 5 MONTHS AS WE BOUGHT IT CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED. DEALERSHIP INFORMED US THAT THE LINE WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, IT HAS 24,250 MILES ON IT. THE SELLING DEALERSHIP ADVERTISED THE CPO AS BEING WORTH THE EXTRA PRICE OVER A REGULAR USED CAR BECAUSE IT WOULD TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING WITH THE 12 MONTH/12,000 MIKE BUMPER TO BUMPER, A FLAT OUT LIE. I CONTACTED FORD AND AFTER A GREAT DEAL OF BACK AND FORTH FOR OVER A WEEK, THEY DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE. NOW I'M ON THE HOOK FOR A $600 REPAIR BILL AND WONDERING HOW LONG IT WILL BE UNTIL THE OTHER LINE BURSTS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND FORD WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT BEGAN WITH THE DRIVER SIDE, THE BRAKE LINE STARTED LEAKING AND THE BRAKE PEDAL NEEDED TO BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR TO INITIATE ANY FORM OF BRAKING ON THE CAR. THE CAR WAS JUST SERVICED, SO IT WAS THOUGHT THAT THE DEALER MESSED SOMETHING UP WHEN FIXING THE CAR. THEN, ONCE IT WAS FIXED 3 MONTHS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN, THIS TIME THE LEAKAGE WAS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. ONCE AGAIN THE BRAKES NEED TO BE PRESSED TO THE FLOOR TO WORK AND FLUID WAS LEAKING ALL OVER. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AGAIN TO BE FIXED. THEY SAID IT NEEDED TO BE PAID FOR SINCE BUMPER TO BUMPER WAS ONLY COVERED FOR 36,000 MILES. BOTH TIMES THE BRAKE LINES STARTED TO LEAK (WE WERE NEVER GIVEN A REASON BY THE DEALER HOW IT OCCURED) WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED AND WHEN STARTING THE CAR, THE BRAKE NEEDED TO BE PUSHED DOWN ALL THE WAY TO START THE CAR AND THERE WERE WARNING LIGHTS THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LOW (DUE TO THE LEAKAGE). THERE WAS MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT FORD REGARDING THE ISSUE WITH THE CAR AND THEY SAID SINCE THAT SPECIFIC PART WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THEIR EXTENDED SERVICE PROGRAM THAT WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. WE THOUGHT THE FIRST TIME (7/15/2019) WAS A FREAK ACCIDENT OR THE MECHANIC MESSED UP WHEN CHANGING THE FLUIDS, BUT THEN THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED ON THE OTHER SIDE 3 MONTHS LATER (10/14/2019) AND THAT SHOULD NOT BE A COINCIDENCE.

FRONT DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LINE BURST WHILE DRIVING (APPLYING THE BRAKE DURING A TURN ON A CITY STREET), WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS, CAUSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO DEPRESS ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR AND MAKING THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STOP (BY THE TIME I MADE IT HOME IT WAS HARDLY STOPPING AT ALL). FORD REPLACED THE LINE AND SAID IT HAD JUST "WORN OUT" (THOUGH THE CAR WAS JUST OVER 2 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME AND HAD UNDER 24000 MILES). TODAY (08/27/2019) THE OTHER FRONT BRAKE LINE SEEMS TO HAVE BURST (PASSENGER SIDE) AGAIN WHILE DRIVING (AGAIN WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE THIS TIME AT A STOP LIGHT ON A CITY STREET) AND AGAIN CAUSING THE PEDAL TO GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND MAKING THE CAR EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STOP. THIS IS A HAZARDOUS SITUATION AND VERY CONCERNING THAT IT HAS OCCURRED TO BOTH FRONT BRAKE LINES WITHIN THE PAST YEAR, AND ALL WHILE THE CAR IS UNDER 3 YEARS OLD AND UNDER 36,000 MILES. I AM HAVING IT TOWED TO FORD TODAY, AND NO DOUBT THEY WILL SAY THE SAME THING, AND WE WILL STUCK WITH A VEHICLE WAITING FOR ANOTHER BRAKE LINE TO BURST IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
