My vehicle previously had recall work, including power steering, but now I’m experiencing: * ‘Steering Assist Required’ warning, and the electric power steering is intermittently failing * Traction control and hill assist turned off * Headlights (and other lights) staying on even when the car is off * The vehicle pulls sharply to the left when braking * Despite multiple alignments and suspension/tie rod replacements, my new tires are wearing out rapidly

The power steering suddenly stopped working while I was driving. The steering became extremely stiff and difficult to control. At one point, the power assist abruptly returned, causing the steering wheel to jerk, and I nearly hit a pedestrian. It was a frightening and extremely dangerous situation. Brought the car to my mechanic multiple times, but the issue kept coming back. After 3 times, I brought the car to the ford dealership/ford mechanics and they confirmed the issue with the power steering was the fault of the rack and pinion. There was no indication of an issue prior to the power steering going out, however, as the steering goes out the power steering alert comes up on the cars dashboard, as wall as the loss of traction power.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but denied assistance in covering the cost of the repair. Steering losses power while driving. 2/24/24 Ford replaced steering gear, same problem reoccured 300 miles later on 3/14/24 If this had of happen while on the freeway it would of resulted in a horrific accident. Steering loss is a very serious problem.

I was driving on the highway and the steering wheel light with exclamation point came on along with flashing adaptive steering menu, traction control menu and up hill assistance menu came on the dash repeatedly, as I kept driving the steering got worse and I almost had an accident. I had no choice to get off at the next exit and was able to pull into a gas station at the end of the exit. I tried to google from my phone the warnings and saw there was over 86 complaints on the same issue. I turned off the car and waited for about 10 minutes before starting it again hpeing that maybe it would reset itself. When I started my car again, I had no steering. I was forced to be towed over an hour away and over $3500 to fix it

The vehicle had repeated failures of the electrical steering system. While driving, the failure occurred making it nearly impossible to steer. On certain occasions, the car stalled. If turned off, the error might clear, work for some time, then fail again. One morning, it came up with the failure codes before starting (16 degrees) even after working the night before. Then work later in afternoon after temperature had warmed up.

I have a 2016 ford edge sport I bought from a ford dealer and I now have adaptive steering fault code that has popped up and now the steering wheel is turned 90 degrees to the left and the suv steering is not working correctly and is very dangerous to drive I called the dealership and was told I have to pay for them to look at and to fix it the is a major safty issue as it's not safe to drive and this suv had the airbag recall fixed and I have seen others have the same issue I am having now and it has to do with faulty parts in the steering wheel again is a major safety issue.

MY VEHICLE HAS 60,000 MILES ON IT PURCHASED NEW AND ALWAYS MAINTAINED AT A CERTIFIED FORD DEALER. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AN ERROR CODE CAME UP ON THE DASH ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT. MY STEERING WHEEL WENT OFF CENTER TURNED TO THE LEFT. I HAVE LOOKED ON LINE AND THERE WAS A BULLETIN FROM FOR IN 2019 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM OWNERS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE NOTIFIED AND WE WERE NOT. DELAERS WERE SUPPOSED TO FIX THIS IF LETTERS WERE NOT RECEIVED WHEN SERVICE WAS PERFORMED. I AM DOING ALOT OF READING AND DELAER SAYS COMPUTER MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED 2600.00. ON LINE FORUMS SAY STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENT. VERY FRUSTRATING TO HAVE A CAR WITH LOW MILES WITH A DANGEROUS UNSAFE SITUATION AND DELAER SAYS REPAIR THROUGH FORD IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE THAT THE PROGRAM EXPIRED.

My parking brake, ABS, and Traction Control (ESC) warning lights all illuminate even when not engaged (Parking Brake states engaged even while driving.) Traction Control (ESC) on/off indicators illuminate opposite of engagement/unengagement (no correlation between.) Identical symptoms from NHTSA recall #16V733000. My car was manufactured right during that timeframe when my make/model/year were deemed loaded with improper ABS/ESC computer software. I brought it into Ford repeatedly and it was incorrectly diagnosed as a faulty E-Brake switch, only to give me my vehicle back and E-Brake could not be unengaged while they returned me the keys in the lot. They looked at it again and stated my ABS Module was broken causing my parking brake actuators to now be faulty resulting in my rear rotors to be worn down to unsafe driving levels. The best reason they could give me for a faulty ABS Module was "lightning strike." I called Ford Customer Care and asked if my car was overlooked in this recall before sold to me and they originally said it was (told me it was manufactured in Ontario,Canada) but then called back to tell me it wasn't one of the vehicles affected. I am deafly afraid that my braking system will fail as I am driving.

As soon as I started the car this came up on the screen: HILL START ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE, ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED, STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED, SERVICE ADVANCETRAC. I tried to drive away but cannot move my steering wheel at all.

The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer who replaced the entire steering wheel with an adaptive motor to fix the issue under a courtesy satisfaction recall by the manufacturer. However, the warning light remained illuminated. The contact then took the vehicle to Gordie Boucher Ford Lincoln of Janesville (2727 US-14, Janesville, WI 53545, (608) 754-5511) who inspected the vehicle and was able to diagnose the failure as a faulty steering column module that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 32,384.

I had a Ford dealer diagnose an illuminated dash warning stating “Adaptive Steering Fault” along with a steering wheel that was turned 90 degrees to the right while the vehicle was tracking straight ahead. During this time, the vehicle's steering would also exhibit momentary losses of power assist accompanied by clicking noises coming from the steering wheel. The dealer’s diagnosis returned a faulty steering wheel with complete steering wheel replacement being the remedy. This was quoted as as a $2,500 repair!! Through manufacturer goodwill, I would be on the hook for 50% of that which is still ~$1,250 on a vehicle with only ~36K miles! Further, I quickly discovered that this issue is well-known for my model to the point that Ford has issued service documents to address complaints (Customer Satisfaction Program 19B04 - Supplement #1 and TSB# 16-2066, 03 November 2016). Customer Satisfaction Program 19B04 - Supplement #1 even states “Service Action: Dealers are to replace the adaptive steering wheel assembly. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.” I negotiated with Ford customer service to have them cover a larger part of this exorbitant repair cost but to no avail. Should a customer not expect a vehicle’s steering wheel assembly to be manufactured in a way as to last the life of the vehicle? The symptoms of this failure, momentary losses of power assist, clicking noises, steering wheel off-centered, should be considered a safety defect for which the manufacturer should be held responsible. With the cost of repairs so high, how many of these vehicles are running on our roads because the owner's don't have or want to spend that much money for repairs??

PRIOR HISTORY- COUPLE TIMES THE ADAPTIVE STEERING LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND GO RIGHT BACK OUT. ON 12/14/2020 I WAS DRIVING AND IN A RIGHT HAND TURN WHEN I HEARD A POP ON MY STEERING WHEEL. I IMMEDIATELY GOT A 'ADAPTIVE STEERING SERVICE REQUIRED' LIGHT. I KNEW THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND DROVE TO THE NEXT TOWN WITH NO ISSUE TO WHERE I COULD SAFELY PULL OFF THE ROAD. WHEN I STOPPED THEN STARTED THE CAR AGAIN MY STEERING WAS LOCKED AND I HAD 4 MESSAGES ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH (SEE ATTACHED PICTURES). I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A RACK AND PINION WHICH WILL COST $3400.00. (I DON'T CARE AS MUCH ABOUT THE COST, I WANT TO SEE AN ACTION BY FORD WHO IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WANTS TO SOAK UP THE $2000+ FOR THE PARTS) I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND IT APPEARS THIS IS A KNOWN CONTINUED ISSUE IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE AND IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS THE STEERING ACTUALLY LOCKS UP TO WHERE YOU CAN'T DRIVE, COULD YOU IMAGINE HAVING YOUR FAMILY OR SPOUSE AND KIDS IN THIS FAMILY STYLE VEHICLE AND THE STEERING GOING OUT? I CHATTED WITH A FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REP AND SHE ALSO CONFIRMED FORD HAS HAD ISSUES WITH THIS AND HAVE MULTIPLE REPAIRS DONE BUT THEY ARE NORMALLY DONE UNDER THE WARRANTY.

I WENT TO START MY CAR AND FOUND MY BATTERY WAS LOW. I GOT THE CAR JUMP STARTED AND WHEN I PUT IT IN GEAR THE POWER STEERING WAS NO LONGER WORKING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDED TO REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY. THIS IS ON A CAR THAT IS LESS THAN 4 YEARS OLD AND HAS LESS THAN 26,000 MILES. I AM TOLD THE WARRANTY IS 3 YEARS OR 36,000 MILES WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. BASED ON MY RESEARCH IT LOOKS LIKE OTHERS HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY. I DROVE THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY THE NIGHT BEFORE AND THERE WAS NO HINT OF ANY PROBLEMS.

I PURCHASED EXTENDED PLATINUM INSURANCE COVERAGE BECAUSE I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED 1 YEAR AGO. LIGHT COMES ON EVERYTHING I TURN THE VEHICLE ON. THE ADAPTIVE STEERING MODULE INTEGRATED IN THE RACK AND PINION SHORTED AND ONE CAN NO LONGER USE THE ADAPTIVE STEERING FEATURE. THE NHTSA RECALLED THE STEERING WHEEL WITH THE ELECTRIC ADAPTIVE STEERING MOTOR, HOWEVER NHTSA DID NOT RECALL THE RACK AND PINION WITH THE DEFECTIVE ADAPTIVE ELECTRONICS. I'M LUCKY MY STEERING WHEEL FAILED STRAIGHT AND DID NOT CAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL TO BE COCKED. I WOULD LIKE TO PREVENT CAR MANUFACTURERS FROM INTEGRATING ELECTRONICS INTO NON-SERVICEABLE COMPONENTS. THE ONLY WAY TO RESOLVE THE ADAPTIVE STEERING FAILURE IS TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION. GOING FORWARD ALL AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURES SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO INTEGRATE NON-SERVICEABLE ELECTRONICS WITH MECHANICAL PARTS. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND I TRIED TO MODIFY THE SETTINGS FOR THE ADAPTIVE STEERING IN DRIVER ASSIST SETTINGS.THE ADAPTIVE STEERING FEATURE IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE SINCE THE ELECTRONICS SHORTED. WHY RECALL THE STEERING WHEEL AND NOT THE ELECTRONICS IN THE RACK AND PINION. IT DOES NOT ADD UP BECAUSE IT WAS AN 50% REPAIR. WHY BOTHER WITH THE RECALL IF YOU DID NOT ADDRESS THE ENTIRE PROBLEM. THE ADAPTIVE STEERING ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE RACK SHOULD BE A REMOVABLE MODULE SO YOU CAN REPAIR THE ELECTRONICS WITHOUT HAVING THE CHANGE THE ENTIRE RACK AND PINION.

THIS IS REGARDING FORD'S SAFETY RECALL 19S26. MY CAR TOO SHOWED SIMILAR SYMPTOMS AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL NOTICE AND THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING . GEAR AND THE BOLTS. UNFORTUNATELY, MY CAR DOES NOT SHOW UP IN THE RECALL LIST EVEN THOUGH THE MAKE, MODEL AND THE MANUFACTURING PLANT MATCHES. THE REPAIRS COST ME A 100$ DEDUCTIBLE ON MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND 60$ TO JUMP START THE CAR. OTHER COSTS INCLUDED HAVING TO DEPEND ON UBER FOR TRANSPORTATION. MY MOTIVE TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT IS TO MAKE SURE THE RECALL VEHICLE LIST IS ACCURATE.

WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS OF THE 2016 EDGE. AT APPROXIMATELY 48,000 MILES, WE HEARD A POPPING NOISE IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION WHICH PROGRESSED TO A LOUD SQUEAKING SOUND ON BUMPS AND TURNING. THE LOCAL DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AT 54,000 MILES, THE VEHICLE STARTED DARTING ON UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES (RAPID SHIFTS IN DIRECTIONAL STABILITY, OFTEN CHANGING LANES WITHOUT WARNING). THE LOCAL DEALER SAID THERE WERE NO TSB'S ON THAT PROBLEM AND DID NOT FIND A PROBLEM(!). I RAISED THE FRONT SUSPENSION MYSELF AND FOUND THE DRIVERS BALL JOINT ALMOST READY TO DISLODGE FROM THE CONTROL ARM. I REPLACED THE LOWER CONTROL ARM MYSELF (I AM A RETIRED AUTO INSTRUCTOR) FOLLOWING FORD'S RECOMMENDATIONS. AFTER AN ALIGNMENT, THE VEHICLE DRIVES CONSIDERABLY BETTER BUT SOMEHOW NOT PERFECT. NOTE THAT THERE IS STILL A CLUNKING IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION BUT THERE DOESNT APPEAR TO BE ANYTHING LOOSE, ALTHOUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT APPEARS TO BE LOOSER THAN WHAT I WOULD EXPECT FOR THAT YEAR VEHICLE WITH THAT MILEAGE (NOW JUST AT 57,000 MILES.) THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION WHICH CERTAINLY SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON A VEHICLE WITH THAT FEW MILES

LOST CONTROL ON MY STEARING DRIVING TO MY WORK THIS MORNING. I WAS DRIVING ON STRAIGHT ROAD WHEN I STARTED EXPECTING LOST OF STEARING, CAR WAS ALMAST START DRIVING TO THE CURB. SCHEDULED NEXT AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT, 6 DAYS LATER. ADVISED THAT SITUATION IS SAFE TO DRIVE. LIGHT WENT OFF UPON SHUTDOWN. WARNING APPEARED AGAIN AT 33324.1 MILES, STATIONARY IN PARK. RETURNED TO DEALER DURIN APPOINTMENT. ADVISED AFTER TECHNICIAN ASSESSMENT THAT I HAVE A FAULTY ADAPTIVE STEERING COMPONENT REQUIRE STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENT. NEED TO HAVE FORD AUTHORIZATION FOR REPAIR, RESCHEDULED FOR SERVICE REPAIR. ADVISED THAT THERE IS NO VEHICLE LOANER FOR THIS SERVICE. ALSO, ADVISED THAT IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE WITH THIS CONDITION. THIS HAS OCCURRED 4 TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK. WE HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY DIFFERENCE IN STEERING, THE WHEEL TURNING OFF CENTER, NONE OF THE ISSUES REPORTED BY NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE ON THE WEB. BUT I CERTAINLY EXPECT THIS TO HAPPEN AT SOME POINT. MY CONCERN IS HOW MANY REPORTS ARE ON THE WEB FROM OWNERS WHO EXPERIENCE THIS FAULT. AND THE MANY VARIATIONS OF HOW DIFFERENT FORD DEALERS CHOOSE TO MANAGE THE PROBLEM. EVERYTHING FROM REPLACING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE GOOD OLD "WELL, WE CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM" BRUSH OFF. ONCE AGAIN, I HAVE NOT YET VISITED MY FORD DEALER BUT EXPECT TO VERY QUICKLY. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY WILL DO, IF THEY WILL DO ANYTHING, OR HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE. WHAT I DO KNOW IS THE FOLLOWING....... AN ISSUE OF THIS NATURE CONSTITUTES, IN MY MIND, A QUESTIONABLE LEVEL OF SAFETY CONCERN BE IT MILD OR MAJOR. THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE MUST PAY FOR ADDITIONAL EXPENSES BY MISSING WORK, MAYBE RENTING A CAR, TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM POSSIBLY RESOLVED OR POSSIBLY NOT. THE STEERING WHEEL HAS REALIGNED SLIGHTLY OFF-CENTER SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE SYSTEM RESETS MOST OF THE TIME AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING IT SEVERAL MINUTES LATER. TWICE NOW THOUGH, THE STEERING WHEEL STAYED AT NINETY DEGREES WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP COMPLETED A SOFTWARE/CODE RESET TWICE, SO UNKNOWN IF IT IS AN ELECTRONIC OR MECHANICAL ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE INFORMATION ADVISING STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENT. THE INITIAL DIAGNOSIS WAS UNDER WARRANTY AT AROUND 26K MILES; SECOND RESET HAD TO BE DONE AT AROUND 46K. THE FAULT SEEMS TO ACTIVATE ONLY IF MOVING AT FIVE MPH OR LESS AND TURNING THE WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION.

TAKATA RECALL- ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT-MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON NOVEMBER 16, 2016 AND IN THAT TIME ITS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES FOR AN ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT WARNING THAT CAME ON SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, TO WHICH NO ONE COULD FIGURE OUT WHY. BY MY THIRD ATTEMPT TO BRING THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY FINALLY TOLD ME THAT HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALERSHIP THEN SHOWED ME A NOTICE THAT WAS SENT OUT BACK BEFORE I BOUGHT MY CAR THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE REGARDING THE STEERING THIS NOTICE WAS DATED NOVEMBER 3, 2016. I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FOR ITS SAFETY DUE TO HAVING A 5 YEAR OLD AND CURRENTLY PREGNANT, THEN TO FIND OUT THAT THIS HAD A DEFECT BEFORE PURCHASING THAT I WAS UNAWARE OF AND YET LEAD TO BELIEVE IT WAS STILL SAFE. THEN I RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAGS NOT FULLY FILLING UP AND THOSE HAD TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE CALLED BACK IN JUNE WHEN I RECEIVED THE LETTER AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE PARTS TO COME IN. IT IS NOW SEPTEMBER 26 WITH NO ANSWERS ON WHEN THESE TWO WILL BE FIXED FOR A 4TH TIME. I WAS TOLD THAT WHEN REPLACING THE STEERING WHEEL I MIGHT LOSE OUT ON SOME OF THE TECHNOLOGY THAT I PURCHASED MY CAR WITH AND I EXPECT SOME KIND OF COMPENSATION FOR THIS. THE STEERING DEFECT WARNING WOULD RANDOMLY COME ON, SOMETIMES WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON, SOMETIMES WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL, SOMETIMES WOULD TURN OFF AND THEN RANDOMLY COME BACK ON. THE DEALERSHIP DID DO A SOFTWARE UPDATE WHICH CHANGED THE FEEL OF THE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY AND THE WARNING CAME BACK ON TWO DAYS LATER. AS YOU CAN SEE THIS BRAND NEW VEHICLE ISN'T EVEN A YEAR OLD AND HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MORE THAN MY USED CAR. EVERY TIME I HAVE TO LEAVE MY CAR AND THEY REFUSED TO GIVE ME A LOANER CAR MAKING ME MISS WORK EVERY TIME.

APPROXIMATELY 6000 MILES AFTER PURCHASE OF THE NEW VEHICLE IT BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE INTERMITTENT ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULTS. I COULD FIND NO PATTERN TO THE FAULTS APPEARANCE OR DISAPPEARANCE. THE FORD DEALER ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE ISSUE 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS DURING WHICH TIMES THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF SERVICE FOR AROUND 4 WEEKS. THE TOTAL DURATION OF THE PERIOD BETWEEN WHEN THE FAULT WARNING FIRST APPEARED AND THE PROBLEM WAS OSTENSIBLY FIXED IS CLOSER TO 5 -6 WEEKS. I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE (DUE TO THE NEED FOR PERSONAL AND WORK RELATED TRANSPORTATION) FOR MUCH OF THAT TIME DURING WHICH PERIOD I WAS VERY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY. THE FAULT HAS NOT RETURNED SINCE THE LAST REPAIR ATTEMPT WHEN THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING WHEEL. HOWEVER SINCE THE FAULT WAS INTERMITTENT I CANNOT BE SURE THAT THE ISSUE WILL RESURFACE AT A LATER DATE. WHEN THE STEERING FAULT FIRST APPEARED I DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT APPEARS THAT THE PROBLEM IS FAIRLY FREQUENT FOR LATE MODEL FORDS THAT HAVE THE SO-CALLED ADAPTIVE STEERING FEATURE. HOWEVER, THE STEERING WHEEL OFFSET OCCURRED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE WHEELS WERE ALIGNED FOR BOTH INSTANCES ... FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS, IT WAS COMING ON AN AVERAGE OF 2 TO 3 TIMES PER WEEK AND IT WOULD TURN OFF WITHIN FIVE OR SO MINUTES OF MY DRIVE. MY SERVICE LIGHT HAS COME ON EVERYDAY NOW FOR THE PAST FIVE DAYS WITHOUT EVEN HAVING TO TURN MY WHEEL. ONCE MY CAR IS STARTED - THE MESSAGE POPS UP. AND RATHER THAN TURNING OFF A FEW MINUTES OR MILES INTO MY DRIVE, IT REMAINS ON FOR THE ENTIRETY OF THE DRIVE. I'M EXPERIENCING WHAT MANY, MANY OTHER FORD SUPER DUTY TRUCK OWNERS HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING SINCE ABOUT 2005 COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE". AT SPEEDS ABOVE 45 MILES PER HOUR, WHEN THE TRUCK GOES ACROSS A ROUGH (WASHBOARD) BIT OF ROAD OR A BRIDGE JOINT, THE FRONT END SOMETIMES SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHICH ALSO CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY UNTIL YOU CAN BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP, WHICH IS NOT EASY. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, WHICH COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL RESULTING IN INJURY TO PASSENGERS AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. IN THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE, IT APPEARS THAT FORD HAS DONE VERY LITTLE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM FOR CONSUMERS. I HAVE MENTIONED THE PROBLEM TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK NEW TWICE NOW AND THEY SAY THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM IN A TEST DRIVE. I HAVE ONLY 26,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK AND THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. HAVE HAD IT ALIGNED TWICE AND TIRES ROTATED REGULARLY. NO UNUSUAL WEAR. MY FORD EDGE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN JULY 2016 (BUILD DATE OF 5/16). IN STARTING UP THE VEHICLE ON JAN. 15 2017 WITH 6,302 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, THE "ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED" LIGHT CAME ON (SOLID YELLOW WARNING). THIS STAYED ON FOR ABOUT 15 MILES OF A 22 MILE TRIP, THEN WENT OUT. I PARKED THE CAR AT A VALET SERVICE. WHEN THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME LATER, I NOTICED THE "ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED" LIGHT WAS ON AGAIN, AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NOW TURNED 90 DEGREES TO THE RIGHT IN ORDER TO DRIVE STRAIGHT AHEAD (BLOCKING MY VIEW OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER). THIS SITUATION CONTINUED FOR THE ENTIRE 22 MILE TRIP BACK HOME. DURING THIS TIME, THE STEERING FELT NORMAL OTHER THAN FOR THE POSITION OF THE STEERING WHEEL (WHICH WAS AWKWARD TO SAY THE LEAST). THE WARNING LIGHT WENT OUT THE NEXT MORNING AND THE STEERING WHEEL RETURNED TO IT'S PROPERLY ALIGNED POSITION! THE WARNING LIGHT CAME BACK ON THE NEXT MORNING, BUT SO FAR THE STEERING WHEEL HAS NOT CHANGED FROM IT'S PROPER POSITION.

ON START UP THE CAR WOULD REGISTER THE ERROR AND MAKE STEERING DIFFICULT WITH STEERING INPUT NOT REGISTER TO THE TURNING OF THE WHEELS. THE STEERING COLUMN ALSO MAKES A GRINDING NOISE. WE PURCHASED A NEW FORD EDGE 2016 SPORT ON SEPTEMBER 18, 2016. ON OCTOBER 25, 2016 WE RECEIVED A MESSAGE INDICATING 'ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED.' LATER THAT SAME DAY, THE MESSAGE DID NOT APPEAR ON THE DRIVER DISPLAY. HOWEVER, ON OCTOBER 26, 2016, WE RECEIVED THE SAME MESSAGE: 'ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED.' WE WENT TO A LOCAL FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT (IN CONCORD, CA) AND THEY PERFORMED ELECTRICAL TESTING FOR STEERING WARNING MESSAGES. THEIR TEST APPEARED TO BE INCONCLUSIVE AND THEY CLEARED ALL CODES AND ROAD TESTED THE VEHICLE AND IT APPEARED TO PASS INSPECTION. HOWEVER, JUST TODAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2016, WE RECEIVED THE SAME MESSAGE AGAIN: 'ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED.' WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT SO THEY COULD SEE THE ERROR MESSAGE AND THEY DID NOT HAVE ANSWERS, EVEN AFTER PULLING THE CODES. THEY WILL BE COMMUNICATING WITH THE "FORD" HOTLINE AND IN CONTACT WITH "THOSE WHO MANUFACTURED THE VEHICLE." FROM WHAT WE UNDERSTAND, AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ONLINE, THAT THIS MAY BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND WE ARE EXTREMELY CONCERNED AS STEERING ABILITY MAY CEASE AND THE CAR MAY STOP FUNCTIONING. OTHER FORD EDGE DRIVERS ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE. THIS IS OF GRAVE CONCERN AS IT IS OUR PRIMARY CAR THAT WE USE TO TRANSPORT OUR CHILDREN IN DAILY. I TOOK THE EDGE INTO NORM REEVES FORD IN CERRITOS, CA TO HAVE THEM "SERVICE" THE ADAPTIVE STEERING. THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEM. A WEEK OR SO LATER, I TOOK IT BACK TO NORM REEVES FORD AND THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR 13 DAYS TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T "REPLICATE" THE PROBLEM. NOW, A MONTH LATER, THE LIGHT STAYS ON. I HAVE READ ON THE "FORD EDGE FORUM" BLOG THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME ARE SAYING THAT THEIR VEHICLES HAVE BEEN IN THE SHOP OVER A MONTH AND FORD SEEMS UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. OTHERS MENTIONED THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD THEM THAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE DANGEROUS. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD'S REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER FOR THE CALIFORNIA AREA. I WAS PARKING ON A SIDE STREET WITH ABOUT 2200 MILES ON THE CAR. THE DASHBOARD LIT UP WITH ADAPTIVE STEERING ISSUE WARNING LIGHT TELLING ME TO TAKE IT IN FOR SERVICE. I THOUGHT THE CAR HAD DIED, BUT AFTER A RESTART, IT SEEMED TO DRIVE OK AND I PUT IT UP TO A ONE TIME COMPUTER GLITCH. I WAS 70 MILES FROM HOME. I ALMOST FORGOT IT HAPPENED BUT AFTER RETURNING FROM A LONG TRIP, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WENT TO THE FORUM AND SAW OTHERS HAD THE SAME ISSUE. AND THEY MENTIONED THAT IT SOMETIMES EFFECTED THE STEERING ITSELF. SURE ENOUGH, THE NEXT DAY, THE WHEEL TURNED 90 DEGREES TO LEFT. I WAS STOPPED AT THE TIME. THE CAR WAS DRIVEABLE BUT WENT STRAIGHT WITH THE WHEEL TURNED 90 DEGREES TO THE LEFT. VERY DISCONCERTING, TO SAY THE LEAST. THE WARNING LIGHT WAS BACK ON, OF COURSE. I HAD TO GET INTO TWON SO PROCEEDED CAREFULLY. I FILLED THE TANK, AND AFTER THE RESTART, THE WHEEL STRAIGHTENED OUT AND WARNING LIGHT WENT OFF. THE WHEEL TURNING HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE, BUT THE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AT LEAST TWICE PER DAY RANDOMLY. I AM REPORTING THIS AS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE ADAPTIVE STEERING. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY NEW CAR.

ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT - SERVICE REQUIRED! WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, STEERING WHEEL CHANGED RATIO, BECAME EXTREMELY LIGHT AND DISCONNECTED FROM WHEELS. STEERING WHEEL ALSO CHANGED TO A 45 DEGREE RIGHT ANGLE WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! ESCALATED TO FORD, STATING I LOST CONFIDENCE IN DRIVING THIS CAR. DIDN'T WANT TO BE A STATISTIC WITH MY KIDS WHEN THIS HAPPENS AGAIN WHEN GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH! EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS THANKFULLY MY KIDS WERE NOT IN THE CAR WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
