Ford Ecoboost 2.0 engine in my 2018 Ford Edge failed at 71,945 miles due to cooling leaking into cylinder #2. Engine started rough for about two weeks but leveled out after about 5 seconds. When the check engine light came on while my wife was leaving home, we stopped driving the car until I could get an appt with Conway Heaton Ford in Bardstown KY. There the engine was found to have coolant leaking into the #2 cylinder. Dealer said the car was unsafe to drive and the engine needed to be replaced. They would not return the keys to me due to the safety hazard the car had become. Engine was replaced on [XXX] at a cost of $6916.00. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
First indication of an issue was when the check engine light illuminated (2/1/2024). I took car to an independent repair shop who identified the codes as PO304 - misfire cylinder 4 and P0316 - misfire on start up. Borescope revealed coolant leaking thru #4 cylinder wall & cylinder #1 showing stream of coolant from cylinder head gasket. Ford TSB recommends long block engine replacement due to coolant intrusion in the engine. The car remained parked from 2/2/24 to 3/13/2024. 3/13/2024. On 3/13 I took the car to the local Ford dealership whose service department confirmed the original diagnosis. Safety issue - coolant intrusion into the combustion chamber could induce an engine fire or cause the engine to seize up while being driven. The car is still at the Ford dealership. Last July my check engine light came on giving us a P0302 code. We had the spark plugs changed. It went away for a week then came back on with the same code. We had the coil packs changed. Same thing. Went away for a week then returned. Now dealership is saying they want $9,000+ to replace time engine for an issue that has been known to Ford since 2010 with this engine.with less than 70,000 miles on it, white smoke is pouring out of my car, the engine is overheating and coolant is leaking. I’m told that this can cause a fire or worse, a wreck. I have children that I transport daily in this vehicle seeing how it’s our only means of transportation and we dont have the money to replace the engine much less buy a replacement vehicle. Ford needs to be held accountable for selling these faulty cars, putting families in danger and fix these issues NOW!!! Why wait for someone to die before they actually take a stand and fix their issue when they know thousands of customers are having the exact same issues. Such a disappointment!

One morning got in SUV for work. The SUV was hesitant about cracking as if starter was going so I thought, also had a small knocking/ticking noise after turning again it cranked. After a few days the engine light came on and wouldn't go off. Took the vehicle to the dealership to check and I was told that I needed an engine . The dealership found that cyclinder 2 miss fire nad traced and found coolant in cyclinder. I took the vehicle to a second shop for a second opinion thinking this can't be I only had it for a year and a few months. Second auto shop said same thing your vehicle need a motor. The second shop performed a pressure test found that after applied pressure dropped 7 psi Removed spark plugs and found evidence of coolant in cylinders.
Repeated 'misfire in cylinder 2' error code - from what i've seen online, this may mean that coolant is leaking into the engine block and can cause total engine failure. about 77,000 miles currently. Will be taking to dealership in a couple days, as it's a repeated issue and the dealership staff member we talked to said i shouldn't be driving the car, which we just bought in March 2021 from a used car Ford dealership.
